The 2024 Superyacht Design Festival took place in Kutzbühel at the end of January where Boat International hosted the International Design and Innovation awards to celebrate the best superyacht designs in the world.

The ceremony included a presentation giving a closer look at 47m superyacht ARTEXPLORER – an innovative blend of superyacht and art gallery. Attendees and nominees came from the industry’s best-known designers, naval architects and shipyards with some of our favourite winners including:

• Motor Yachts

Explorer yacht PINK SHADOW | 58m | Damen Yachting and Azure Yacht Design

Superyacht PINK SHADOW

Winner: Outstanding motor yacht exterior design 40-69 Damen Yachting’s SeaXplorer is an unconventional superyacht and earned its place at the top thanks to its statement looks, open beach club and versatile main deck aft – perfect for entertainment or vast tender and toy storage. Her dark green hull and matching superstructure maker her perfect for exploration and a great example of an SUV yacht.

Superyacht LEONA

Winner: Outstanding motor yacht exterior design 60m + Superyacht LEONA narrowly won out against Amels ENTOURGE thanks to her bold red hull and elongated profile which play host to a stunning beach club and large owner’s deck. The judges deemed her memorable amongst other yachts which ‘played it safe’.

Superyacht ACE | 44m | Conrad Shipyard , Diana Yacht Design and M2atelier

Winner: Best motor yacht interior design 499GT and below Superyacht ACE boast interior layouts you would expect on a larger yacht thanks to some simple design tricks including mirrored window mullions, fluid free standing furniture and simplicity rather than minimalist. Her look and feel centre around a few carefully chosen materials and textures, with light oak, marble, soft leather, light coloured fabric and dark metal blended together and bathed in natural light.

Winner: Best motor yacht interior design 500GT + The interior design of superyacht ENTOURAGE is the first yacht project from the commercial space designer Burdifilek and unusual as a winner in this category as a series yacht. A showcase in the study of the yachts interior function, the design creates a tranquil and elegant space which needed to successfully host the owner art collection. The ergonomic shapes on display are both seaworthy and delicate with a blend of textures like stone, leather and glass in dusty tones of grey, blush and blue.  The atmosphere across the yacht evolves as she transforms from day to night – a feature which impressed the judges.

Sailing yacht SARISSA

The sailing yacht categories were dominated by sailing yacht SARISSA who swept the board, with wins for Outstanding Exterior Design, Best Interior Design, Best Naval Architecture and both the Innovation and Eco Award of the year. Her name means ‘long sharp spear’ in Greek, and it is easy to see this inspiration throughout the design.

Her naval architecture was judged to be the best all-round for sailing ability, range, comfort and stability. The design perfectly reflects the brief from the experienced owners who wanted a modern-looking yacht with easy water access, comfort, shade, infinite water views and a Jacuzzi. Performance, environmental impact and fun were of the utmost importance and from bow to stern, no details have been overlooked. Her multi-faceted approach to eco-friendliness includes wind-driven propulsion and hydrogenators plus innovative waste heat recovery, grey water treatment and general waste management.

The interior makes great use of the space and is a relaxed, homely environment perfect for family vacations. Custom furniture was created so as not to obscure the views, and the simple colour palette is warm and welcoming and features light oak, white lacquer and accenting leather. The thoughtful layout sees all the cabins offering a unique feel with the owner’s suite leading to a private beach club.

This year’s winners reflect a new era of innovative and imaginative yacht design where environmental impact sits front and centre with style and function. The winners of the 2023 BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards have been revealed on February 8 in a dazzling ceremony attended by the best designers, naval architects, and shipbuilders in the business. Held in the northern Italy ski resort of Cortina d’Ampezzo at the Superyacht Design Festival, the awards acknowledge individual components of yacht design and celebrate the studios behind them. One of our most prominent superyacht deliveries from 2023 has been recognized for their design excellence at the 2024 BOAT Design & Innovation Awards held during the Superyacht Design Festival in Kitzbühel on January 28, 2024.

Organised by Boat International, this highly anticipated event brings together the yachting industry and recognises excellence in design and innovation within the superyacht community, decided by an independent panel of judges.

Called to the stage was the Amels 60 ENTOURAGE as winner of the award for Best Interior Design - Motor Yachts, 500GT and above. Burdifilek’s sophisticated and elegant design captured the eyes of the judges who noted both the functionality and transformative effect of the design. Further recognition was given to this outstanding interior within a series design superyacht. We are delighted to see ENTOURAGE follow in the footsteps of the Amels 60 COME TOGETHER who was named a winner at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards.

PINK SHADOW and ENTOURAGE winners at the BOAT Design & Innovation Awards

Two of our most prominent superyacht deliveries from 2023 have been recognized for their design excellence at the 2024 BOAT Design & Innovation Awards held during the Superyacht Design Festival in Kitzbühel on January 28, 2024.

Organised by Boat International, this highly anticipated event brings together the yachting industry and recognises excellence in design and innovation within the superyacht community, decided by an independent panel of judges.

First up for a Neptune was our 58-metre SeaXplorer PINK SHADOW winning the award for Outstanding Exterior Design – Motor Yachts 40m – 59.9m. Recognition was given for her eye-catching and impressionable design which is both ‘’multifunctional and fun’’. The judges were particularly impressed with her bold and striking hull and colour scheme as well as the exceptional design of the Beach Club and versatility of the Main Deck aft.

Next called to the stage was the Amels 60 ENTOURAGE as winner of the award for Best Interior Design - Motor Yachts, 500GT and above. Burdifilek’s sophisticated and elegant design captured the eyes of the judges who noted both the functionality and transformative effect of the design. Further recognition was given to this outstanding interior within a series design superyacht. We are delighted to see ENTOURAGE follow in the footsteps of the Amels 60 COME TOGETHER who was named a winner at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards.

The hat-trick of awards was completed with a Judge’s Commendation in the Outstanding Lifestyle Feature category for the Beach Club of PINK SHADOW. Described as a true outdoor-indoor space with plenty of fun, functionality and Owner input, this was a design feature created together with Design Unlimited that left a lasting impression amongst the judging panel.

The Design & Innovation Awards 2024 took place in the picturesque alpine town of Kitzbühel, Austria, as part of the Superyacht Design Festival. The awards recognise an array of spectacular features in today’s most remarkable yachts, ranging from the aesthetic and naval design aspects to the innovative and environmentally conscious applications.

The smallest boat in its category, 24.9m Bolide 80 has all-carbon sleek lines and can reach a speed of up to 70 knots. With subtle nods to car design, its exterior also has a nice connection with the carbon-structured interior.

58m Pink Shadow stands out with a longer hull and a distinctive dark green hue which stood out due to its open beach club area and the versatility showcased in the aft section of the main deck. This space serves not only as a lively entertainment area but also doubles as a practical garage for hauling tenders and toys while the yacht is in motion.

Pink Shadow is a bolt statement that exemplifyies the concept of an “SUV yacht” – multifunctional and enjoyable.

MONACO YACHT SHOW SUPERYACHT AWARDS

The Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards put the best superyachts exhibited at the MYS in the spotlight. The ceremony brings together major players in the international luxury yachting industry. Directors of prestigious shipyards, yacht designers, yacht owners and their agents, and directors of luxury brands all attend the evening. The MYS Superyacht Awards have been organised by the Monaco Yacht Show since 2014 on the eve of the show and honour large superyachts delivered during the year in the following categories: - MYS/RINA Superyacht Award - Best Interior Design Superyacht Award - Best Exterior Design Superyacht Award - Award for the Finest New Superyacht at the MYS The titles celebrate the excellence of the builders of the superyachts that are launched onto the world stageeach year at the Monaco Yacht Show. They are awarded by a jury of recognised experts from the world of yachting.  The 7 th Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards will be held in September 2021 at the Yacht Club of Monaco. Attendance exclusively on personal invitation.

lexus expands LY680 yacht's swimming platform and flybridge to fit a barbecue grill on deck

Lexus expands ly680 luxury yacht’s flybridge.

At the Japan International Boat Show 2024, Lexus unveiled the 1/20 scale model of its new LY680 Luxury Yacht , an upgrade of the previous LY650 water vehicle . Lexus’ latest model comes with an expanded swimming platform and flybridge to accommodate more guests on deck. The extended flybridge, which measures 1,400mm, now features a spacious lounge area and a dedicated barbecue grill, while the swimming platform has been expanded by 700mm to accommodate additional guests who wish to take a dip in the sea.

When Lexus conceived the idea for its LY680 Luxury Yacht, even before its debut at the Japan International Boat Show 2024 , the design team aimed to create a water vehicle that would feel like a ‘tranquil hideaway at sea.’ They imagined it as a moving space where ‘discerning customers could feel free and at ease.’ The resulting concept was a three-level luxury yacht equipped with living spaces that make the LY680 feel like a deluxe apartment on the sea.

The passengers enter the Lexus’ LY680 Luxury Yacht, and when they descend, they can find a kidney-shaped sofa nestled in one corner. Adjacent to the sofa is a desk with a plush seat, tailored as a workspace at sea for those who still need to hustle. Panoramic windows adorn the space, offering views of the waters and allowing natural light to flood in. The use of dark, varnished wood adds a sense of opulence to the interior, and across from the sofa and desk, a semi-circular bed invites passengers to relax while watching the waves and scenery through slanted windows.

Walking up to the control area, the captain of Lexus’ LY680 Luxury Yacht navigates the water vehicle with ease through the expansive set of windows. During the Japan International Boat Show 2024, where yacht enthusiasts could view the 1/20 scale model of the LY680, Lexus revealed that the luxury yacht can accommodate up to 15 passengers across three rooms with six beds.

Twin Volvo engines for Lexus’ LY680 Luxury Yacht

For those interested in specifications, Lexus’ LY680 Luxury Yacht is expected to be equipped with Twin Volvo IPS 1350/1050 engines and have a fuel tank capacity of 4,012 liters and a fresh water tank capacity of 852 liters. Production of the luxury yacht will be carried out by the Horizon Group, based on the Toyota Production System. Lexus has announced that yacht enthusiasts can reserve their water vehicle model through Toyota Marine sales offices in Japan and select dealerships. As of publishing, Lexus aims to deliver the first batch of the LY680 Luxury Yacht in Spring 2026, with international availability pending based on customer demand.

Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly gifted himself a $300 million megayacht, dubbed “Launchpad,” ahead of his 40th birthday.

The staggering 387-foot-long vessel was seen floating at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., after arriving at its berth earlier this week, The Sun reported Thursday.

The multi-layered luxury ship’s sleek exterior was designed by Espen Øino International and boasts a steel hull and an aluminum superstructure, according to SuperYacht Times.

Reportedly ranking as the 45th largest yacht in the world, the interiors are just as aesthetically pleasing and reportedly executed by Zuretti Interior Design company, a France-based company specializing in unique and custom yacht design.

The breathtakingly beautiful floater stands out with a navy blue theme matching an American flag perched proudly on its wood-paneled stern.

There are several outdoor areas where the social media maven will be able to relax with his family and the indoor levels feature glass paneling allowing for tons of natural light.

There also appears to be a helipad perfect for whenever the Facebook co-founder wants to travel to his vessel by air.

The Feadship-built yacht, built in 2022, can comfortably fit 24 guests aboard, requires a crew of 48, and is said to cost $30 million a year for upkeep and usage, according to Superyachtfan.com .

Boatworld insiders have been buzzing with speculation that Zuckerberg is the owner of the newly minted mega-cruise ever since it made its main voyage from the Netherlands last week.

The tech titan was spotted touring the Russian-commissioned megayacht in early March, though the impressive boat didn’t arrive stateside until this week due to sanctions, according to The Sun.

The website reported that Zuckerberg purchased the pricey yacht – along with its own $30 million partner boat — most likely as an early 40th birthday present to himself.

The boat reportedly traveled to Florida after being granted special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg’s birthday on May 14.

Zuckerberg’s yacht is just 30 feet shorter than the length of fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos’ 417-foot megayacht Koru, which the Amazon boss snagged for a whopping $500 million.

Zuckerberg’s rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

ISS Design Awards: Q&A

Registrations are open for the ISS Design Awards, allowing participation from all custom yachts, the first hull of a series, or refit projects that were launched and delivered between January 2020 and December 31, 2022.

Q: Is there a fee required to participate? A: No, there is no registration fee required to participate in the awards.

Q: Do you need to be an ISS member to nominate a vessel? A: No.

Q: When is the deadline? A: The deadline to upload a vessel is June 15.

Q: Who can participate? A: Builders and/or designers should dedicate one person as the vessel administrator and create an account or login here .

Q: Will the vessel information and photos be visible to the public? A: No. The vessel administrator will need to complete an online portfolio, which will be uploaded to a private section on the ISS website that is exclusively dedicated to voting and judging. This private section ensures that the vessel information and photos are not visible to the public at any time. If the vessel is a winner, then a 30 second video or photos will be needed for the awards presentation at the Ritz-Carlton.

Q: What if the vessel becomes a winner? A: If the vessel is selected as a finalist or a winner, only the photos that were approved will be made visible to the public.

Q: What vessels are eligible? A: All custom yachts, first hull of a series or refit projects launched and delivered between January 2020 and December 31, 2022, are eligible. Rather than solely focusing on 2022 vessels, we are pleased to announce that vessels built and delivered between 2020 and 2022 will now be included. The global pandemic has had a significant impact on various industries, including the superyacht sector. Despite these extraordinary circumstances, yacht builders, designers, and industry professionals have demonstrated admirable resilience and creativity. It is essential that we acknowledge and recognize the exceptional vessels that have been created during this challenging period.

Q: How many vessels can a builder or designer submit for consideration? A: Builders or designers can submit multiple vessels for consideration. There is no limit to the number of vessels that can be registered.

Q: What is required to register a vessel? A: The portfolio should include a description of the vessel’s distinctive features and the reasons why it is exceptional compared to other yachts in terms of design, practicality, performance, and craftsmanship. Additionally, any new advancements in yacht design, such as environmental innovations or noteworthy inventions, should be highlighted. The portfolio must include an image gallery of the vessel that showcases specific areas, such as the exterior, interior, and technologically advanced special features.

Q: How are the vessels judged? A: The ISS awards are peer-reviewed. A panel of twelve industry professionals will judge the vessels. You can view the current judges here .

Q: Will the finalists be notified prior to the award ceremony? A: Yes, the finalists will be notified in advance and requested to submit additional materials for the awards ceremony.

Q: When will the awards be presented? A: The award ceremony will take place at The Ritz-Carlton on Fort Lauderdale beach on Thursday, October 26, 2023.

Q: Who needs to be present at the awards? A: All finalists are advised to have a representative present at the gala to accept the award if they are announced as the winner.

Over the course of two days, 11 judges carefully evaluated nearly 930 entries via Zoom to select the finalists of the 20th annual HD Project Awards. The distinguished panel considered design innovation, function, sustainability, purpose, and overall impressiveness of each of the submissions (which debuted between December 2022 and February 2024).

This year’s projects portion spans 30 categories, including the newly introduced Small Hotel (50 rooms and under), Branded Residences, Landscape + Outdoor Spaces, and Transportation categories.

11.4-metre limousine

One of the most recent launches from the tender arm of America’s oldest boatbuilder is a gorgeous aft helm limo penned by Michael Peters . The award-winning design accommodates up to 15 guests in fore and aft outside seating with a wet bar and a climate-controlled interior with custom upholstery and detailing. The T-top lowers for stowing the tender on board, and the gyrostabilisation will be appreciated by anyone who’s ever had to step onto a rolly tender at a rough anchorage.

The Maine builder has also revealed a new design for a 12-metre Beachlander with two deck configurations: the elegant Sip for cocktails and entertaining; and the more rugged Sport for watersports or hauling gear to the beach. Both can accommodate either electric or diesel propulsion and have guest capacity of 14.

Cantiere delle Marche ’s Flexplorer 146 has a big aft deck designed to carry tenders and toys, but with a 44.3-metre LOA, there’s a limit to how much can be hauled. So the Italian shipyard came up with an ingenious solution: a tender on deck that carries a smaller tender itself. Instead of stowing these side-by-side on the mothership, stacking them frees up valuable real estate. Called Iceman, the explorer tender is being designed by Valerio Rivellini, and follows his philosophy of combining structural strength and light weight, with an aluminium hull and a carbon-fibre superstructure.

With its modern form and clean lines, the first NY24 Limo model fits right in with the artful aesthetic of this Italian builder, which collaborates with design firm ideaeITALIA . The low profile and high-end finishes allow it to fit in any superyacht garage with ease, and the model itself is quite customisable. The owner of hull No 1, ordered for a 63-metre yacht that will cruise in Croatia, chose to install a bimini for shade underway without spoiling the lines, and synthetic teak for reduced maintenance and environmental impact.

Custom 10m limousine and open.

January 2024 saw Falcon ’s first deliveries to a client with a stunning pair of matching 10-metre tenders, one open sports tender and one closed limousine. The custom designs were developed exclusively for the (confidential) client. The hull, deck and mouldings are constructed with green epoxy composites, utilising foam sandwich construction, giving a stiff, lightweight structure, but it’s the high-gloss all-white finish with mirrored glass that makes the bigger impression.

This foiling tender is designed to fly, not swim. It takes off at 18 knots and soars 1.5 metres above the water. Based on Enata’s 10-metre Foiler platform, Vatoz is a new limited- edition series that will produce just eight boats. Designed in collaboration with Timur Bozca, its organic, aerodynamic shape was inspired by its namesake, the Turkish word for stingray. The side wings are designed to provide easy access to the bow while also keeping those in the cockpit dry and hiding storage space for water toys such as surfboards.

Bold in bright blue livery, Yachtwerft Meyer’s 8.1-metre open limo is as eye-catching in colour as it is in form. It’s a new addition to the semi-custom Silverline series, the builder’s most successful tender range, which offers a pre-engineered platform with a choice of deck layouts. The first owner chose a seating arrangement that maximises the number of passengers. When the weather doesn’t co-operate, a hidden custom bimini transforms it into a closed limousine.

Silent tenders.

The latest development from solar-powered catamaran builder Silent Yachts is a new series of tenders that are – you guessed it – silent, being fully electric. The range encompasses 400, 450 and 520 models between four and 5.2 metres with a carbon fibre prepreg hull and waterjet drive, able to be charged via the mothership Silent yacht or in port. The 40kW of power and lightweight construction allow a top speed over 20 knots. The first 400 is now in production.

13m limousine tender.

Custom builder Cockwells has created some stunningly beautiful superyacht tenders. The latest, part of a quartet of custom tenders for the new 112-metre Renaissance , is this 13-metre limousine. It features a luxurious interior influenced by the design of the client’s private jet, while its semi-displacement hull, twin 8LV engines and gyro-stabiliser provide guests with the ultimate balance of speed and comfort.

Wallypower50.

Introduced at the last Cannes show, the baby of the wallypowers blends the features of Wally ’s tender and power ranges. This is no accident; the concept is all about bridging the open wallytender48 and the wallypower58, and the result is a model that can be specced for anything from chase boat to dayboat. The sharp lines, deep-V hull and double chine profile are undoubtedly Wally, as the design comes from the brand’s forward-thinking founder, Luca Bassani , who says the model is “perhaps the purest and most essential in form yet to earn the ‘power’ epithet”. Both inboard and outboard propulsion is offered.

Jet tender 28.

At the top end of Castoldi’s range of jet tenders is this new 8.6-metre model that accommodates 16. The multi-functional boat is well-tailored to its market, coming with all the fun stuff superyachts need: ski poles, hooks for towing inflatables, dive tank lockers and fishing rod holders. A bow ramp provides steps down to the beach, too. Castoldi tenders are designed to be stored in yacht garages, so all components that exceed the height of the bow can be folded (console, awnings, carbon-fibre T-top) or removed (cushions and backrests). Below the waterline is a deep-V hull built in tough Kevlar.

Take a hardy RIB and mix in military DNA and you’ve got a chase boat with serious superpowers. So serious, in fact, that the CZ12 was the first RIB to make it through the Northwest Passage. With Zodiac Milpro’s recent acquisition of superyacht specialists Yachtwerft Meyer, these adventure boats are now offered as superyacht tenders. The 60-plus-knot boat has a patented high-performance MACHII hull, which special forces use for intervention and rescue in extreme conditions, and comes with shock-mitigating seats.

Beachlander range.

High demand for the beachlander led Whitmarsh to design a new range of mid-size luxury superyacht tenders. The three models of 6.25, 7.25 and 8.25 metres have the same dimensions as some of the British builder’s existing tenders, but they boast a completely new hull design that carries more weight and improves performance with less power. The half-circle “D” tube design gives a lot of internal space and offers storage built into the cockpit sides. Engine options include diesel inboard jet drive, stern drive or outboard, and SOLAS versions are available for every model. The first two 725s are sold for a mid 2024 delivery.

This new catamaran has a neat trick below the waterline: foils. These aren’t to lift it out of the water America’s Cup-style though, but to help with longitudinal stability. A centre foil creates lift that reduces drag and improves fuel efficiency (by at least 30 per cent, claims the builder), while the aft foils provide downforce, working with the centre foil to reduce pitching. A folding carbon fibre bimini and low-profile hull allow it to be stowed on board. The first Linx30 is in service as a tender to 65-metre Lürssen Polar Star , and the second one is currently in build, commissioned by a client in the Middle East.

Beachlander.

Recently delivered to a private mothership, Compass ’s largest beachlander to date, at 11.5 metres, is a jack of all trades. The full-custom craft was designed to serve as luxurious guest conveyance, able to facilitate extended excursions on expedition cruises, as well as a utility boat. There’s a rack for dive tanks, two wet lockers and six fishing-rod sockets. The extra-large loading bay can take up to six euro pallets, which are easily loaded and unloaded via the hydraulic bow door. The full guest complement of 12 is accommodated on board, with passengers enjoying an aft seating/sunlounger arrangement with adaptable positioning, a 135-litre integrated cool box and a head with shower concealed in the console.
