Broadblue Catamarans, descendent of Prout, the first series builder of ocean-going cats and last one standing in the UK, has been energetically but carefully tending its product line. Last year we saw the Broadblue 385 and 435, and this year’s offering, the 415, is designed to offer the best of both in a more efficient package-less complicated and less expensive than the 435 but with more space than the 385.

It looks as though the company has moved away from the mast-aft arrangement that characterized its early models and adopting the industry “standard” location forward of the saloon. It’s also introduced a few more curves to jazz up the appearance of the deck and superstructure.

Broadblue will be offering the 415 with the Ossa Powerlite diesel-electric propusion system as an option. www.broadblueusa.com

The Broadblue 46 is a development of the Prout 46 and was previously branded the Broadblue Prestige 46. This is an elegant design that can be sailed with a minimum of fuss. Her mast is at the forward end of the cockpit – no need to go forward to work at the mast. The hull benefits from the 70 years of experience gained by its production team, the Prout Brothers. The mast has backstays, double spreaders, and double side stays. All other rigging may be described as overbuilt (until you need it).

The Broadblue 346 is an ideal catamaran for families and couples, this model is small enough to make a passage through the French canals, but robust enough to carry a Category A (Ocean) status, all with 2m headroom throughout the boat.

The key to the easy handling is the innovative “sail station” concept, bringing all of the working sheets and halyards to a single forward facing location alongside the helm station. This ensures that the 346 can be easily handled by one person, including reefing of both the main and headsails.

The spacious accommodation includes two large double aft cabins and a single cabin forward as standard. This can be extended by incorporating a single cabin amidships on the port side and a saloon conversion for the double berth.

When combined with the optional second head this allows up to 8 people to sleep aboard and enjoy facilities of two heads and two showers, all in a 10m catamaran. The 346 is a beautifully crafted catamaran, whose predecessors have sailed all over the World.
