Nassau Catamaran Sailing and Snorkeling Tour

There's something special about the serenity of a Sail and Snorkel Cruise across the blue waters of the Bahamas. With the whisper of the waves on the hull and the gentle warm ocean breezes across the bow, you will soon feel your cares slipping away on Nassau tours like this.

Board your waiting catamaran and set out on an adventure to one of the most beautiful reefs near Nassau. The boat features a spacious deck area, shaded as well as open to the warm Bahamian sun, so there is a place for everyone attending this Nassau catamaran tour. The boat also has two bathrooms on board. As you sail to the reef, your crew will pass out the included snorkeling gear and give instruction on snorkeling.

Depending on the sea and weather conditions that day, your captain will set a course to a location where you will have the best Nassau snorkeling experience. Upon arrival at the snorkeling spot, your crew will join you in the water to answer any questions or concerns you might have about snorkeling before you explore the wonderful underwater world of coral and marine life. Snorkeling is from the boat in water that will be over your head. Flotation vests are required while in the water and come in large and small sizes. You'll need to provide your own vests for small children and infants. Time at the reef is approximately 60 minutes. As water temperature is usually 75-80 degrees in the winter and warmer in the summer months, wetsuits are not required or provided.

After your time in the water, climb back on board via the snorkeler friendly "Stairway to the Sea," and feel the wind in your hair as your catamaran makes the approximate one-hour sail towards home. There is a one hour open bar for the ride back to the marina so enjoy a nice cocktail! The boat returns to Paradise Island and you will disembark near the Atlantis Resort. Guests are responsible for their own transportation back to the cruise pier at their own expense (not included).

Please Note: It is the captain's intention to use the sails as often as possible. If for any reason the captain feels the use of sails is not safe or conducive to a prompt return, whether it is related to weather, mechanical, or any other unforeseen situation, they will use the motor.

I found some old threads on this excursion, but nothing recent. I would love to get some feedback on this excursion, as we're considering it for our cruise next April. The website shows the duration as 3.5-4 hours, but indicates that actual snorkel time is approximately 1 hour. I realize there is some sailing/travel time involved, but is it really 2.5 - 3 hours???? For those that have been, do you remember what time(s) this excursion was offered? We're trying to decide between this excursion and a private one. Thoughts? Many thanks! Jodie

Are there changing facilities on or near the ship?

I didn't look because I took the maybe 5 minute walk back to the ship. I had no interest in Nassau beyond that.

Dug720 said: I did it in February and had a great time! We used the motor to get out to the snorkel site, had the snorkel and swim time (I didn't wear a watch, so I don't know how long, sorry...but it was a good while), and mostly used the sail with only a little motor on the way back. I think it was only offered once - leaving at 9 (maybe 9:30? but I think 9). If I am ever on a cruise back to Nassau, I'd consider it. Click to expand...
DISGRL13 said: Hi! I was wondering if there was a lot to see during the snorkeling time? What did you see? Was it crowded with all the people? Thanks for any details you can give! We are signed up to do this tour at the end of March. Click to expand...

Thanks so much for the info!!

We did a catamaran/snorkeling trip from Nassau in September 2014 timeframe and my husband (48) and twins (11) loved it! It was described by poster above and that is what I remember. I didn't go into water but the kids really loved seeing all the fish and had a great time.

  • Feb 8, 2015

Our entire family of 13 is going on this excursion in April. I signed up my 92 year old grandmother just so she won't be left behind on the ship. She gets around pretty well, but we like to hang on to her when going over uneven ground, just to ensure she doesn't trip and fall. For her, is there a comfortable place on the boat for her to sit and watch? She will stay put if she finds a comfortable seat. I worry a little about her going, but I think its better than leaving her on the ship by herself. Thoughts? Jodie

Catamaran Sail & Snorkel

Nassau was one of the stops of our cruise and I'm glad we decided to go snorkeling on the catamaran. The staff was very helpful, the ride was a couple of miles out to the reef. We saw lots of colorful fishes, coral and even a barracuda! So all in all it was a good trip who can argue with complementary rum punch :-) A very relaxing afternoon I would recommend it.

catamaran sail & reef snorkeling

We had a great time sailing on the catarmaran. The crew were terrific. Saw lots of colorful fish & coral when we stopped to snorkel. A very relaxing afternoon. I would not recommend this for small children or non swimmers. The water can be pretty rough where you snorklel.

catamaran sail & reef snorkeling

We enjoyed to sail out, boat is a little worn, but staff friendly. We visited a nice shallow snorkel spot as that was best for our daughter. We did find alot a fish with pretty tropical colors and there were lots of them. There were a couple of varieties and they did come right up to you so all in a all a good trip. I've been on other trips and they were better, but I think they were longer than the 3 hr tour we booked here to be fair. Warning, the fish swim all around you so if you want to look from afar you need to swim away from the group or stay on the boat. Unfortunately darling daughter did not like the fish near her, son loved it.

On a positive note, the snorkeling was pretty good and the crew were helpful. A lot of fish and pretty healthy coral. I didn't enjoy much else about the experience. Although we were in Nassau for the day on a cruise ship, we booked this independently hoping to get away from the crowds. When we arrived at the pier, it looked promising as there was only about 12 of us waiting for the catamaran. Right as it arrived and to my horror a huge group of 40 or 50 people arrived who were there as part of a ship excursion. There was a big push to get on the catamaran, and by the time we got on, it was pretty crowded and barely anywhere to sit. We then slowly motored for an hour past the Atlantis and down the channel. The snorkeling spot was just towards the end of the channel. It was only 69 degrees that day in late March so the water was pretty cold. Again, I enjoyed the snorkeling but we only got about 50 minutes in the water. Having another 60 people in the water with you was sort of a downer as we usually try to snorkel on our own from shore. About half way through our snorkel, another snorkel excursion pulled up and dumped another 60 people in the water. When we had arrived, a boat was just leaving so this must be a popular spot. Probably the closest place for some good snorkeling nearest the port and Atlantis Hotel. The sail went up for show for the ride back but we still just motored slowly back up the channel. The 3 1/2 hr excursion actually lasted about 3 hrs by the time we got everyone on the catamaran. A little over an hour down the channel and an hour to get back. The Dixie cup of rum punch didn't improve my overall impression of the trip.

This was a great morning excursion. The catamaran was cool to actually sail on. This is a snorkeling excursion you go in the water, what I liked about this company is if you wanted you could get a life vest. I am a long time diver so I went without so I could dive under and see the reef a little bit better. The reef we were on was beautiful. They had rum punch after we got out of the water for the ride back. I would go with this company again.

Would I do this again? Depends on who I was with. Not recommended for: -anyone who can't swim- could be a nightmare. Believe it or not there was a woman who couldn't swim. -anyone with children who are not STRONG swimmers or can't stand cold water. -anyone who is looking for top notch service Helpful to have some snorkeling experience but they will help you if you don't know how. For sanitary reasons I suggest you bring at least you own snorkel. They also sell them in town if you want to buy them. **Read below for details on their crazy service** We made a reservation but they didn't require payment. When we showed up at the dock they didn't have record of our reservation. I handed my husband the credit card in front of the employee and walked away. When my husband met me and and the kids on the pier he handed me the tickets and the receipt- he had paid for 5 people when there were only 4 of us and I had told the employee that. I went back and they did refund the $80 they overcharged us. We boarded the boat and unknown to us headed over to the Nassau to pick up the cruisers. We waited on the boat there for about 40 minutes. Finally thought we were underway when we went back to the ORIGINAL dock and they loaded on more people! At this point I was thinking there were too many people for the boat and we had been sitting in the hot sun with 2 kids for an hour and we hadn't even started out yet. The boat blasted music that was way too loud for the first hour. After that they toned it down a little. While we were in route to the snorkeling area no one was required to wear life jackets- nor were we ever told where the life jackets were. This goes for kids too- different rules than in the US. My 8 year old knows how to swim really well and we have a lot of boating experience- I didn't think much of it until she tripped over someone's foot and almost went head first over the boat (only a rope between her and the water) while we were in a major channel. By the end of the trip the "bathroom" was disgusting. About 2" of "water" on the floor. When they dropped us off they went to drop the cruisers off first in the town of Nassua. For us this was a bonus because we got off there and ate dinner before returning to Atlantis- saved us $4 each in taxi ride. If you travel with kids or someone with diabetes - BRING FOOD. There is nothing on board! This is what really sealed the deal for me- when the Seahorse crew went to drop us off they couldn't get into the pier where they picked up the cruisers so they dropped us next to where the cruise ships come in. When we got off the boat we were in a locked in gated area with no access to the street (only to the water). A guy from the crew came over and tried to move the electric gate with no luck. Next thing I know the boat and crew were sailing away! Some of the guys were able to move the fence- added to the laughs but seriously??

Best on Key West offers an exciting afternoon of snorkeling at the Great Florida Reef, the third largest reef in the world. This unique ecosystem is home to thousands of species of fish, sponges, coral, turtles and more, and you can see it up close during our afternoon reef snorkel tour. Whether you're a novice or expert in snorkeling, we invite you and the whole family to come see the remarkable beauty the Great Florida Reef has to offer.

Situated just 6 miles seaward of the Keys, the reef is located in relatively shallow water, typically between 15 feet and 30 feet deep. As the No. 1 diving destination in the world, the reef attracts millions of visitors who can explore and appreciate the delicate ecosystem. You'll have a remarkable view from the Marquesa, a 69-foot Catamaran that boasts one of the largest sails in South Florida.

During your excursion into the beautiful coral, you may glimpse seahorses, angelfish and lionfish, as well as turtles and dolphins. The reefs are home to millions of creatures and marine plants so there's something new around every turn. And the reef never stays the same -- seasons, climate, plant growth, and the various life routines of the marine animals ensure the reef constantly changes. If you've taken our tour before, we invite you to return and experience how the reef has grown since you were last here.

An Afternoon of Adventure

This 3 hour tour sets sail at 12:30 p.m. on our state-of-the-art catamaran and heads straight to the reef. There's plenty of seating on this spacious deck, and while awaiting arrival to the reef, our crew provides safety instructions and demonstrates how to properly use the snorkeling equipment. We provide a snorkeling mask, snorkel, fins and buoyancy compensator for all our underwater adventurers. Our crew is capable of answering any questions you may have during this time. Once we arrive at the snorkeling area, passengers may descend our "Stairway to the Sea," a staircase running from the deck to the water level for easy access.

Our exciting catamarans are equipped with fresh water showers for when you're finished snorkeling, and there's plenty of deck room to stretch out in the sun or head to the shaded area for a refreshing break after snorkeling or on the return trip.

The afternoon reef snorkel tour provides complimentary water and soda to keep you hydrated, and for our adult passengers, we offer complimentary beer and wine on the return sail to Key West.
