Result highlights include; 1st Cabbage Tree Island Race beating "Ichi Ban" and 7 other 50 footers. 1st Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championships 2nd Overall Blue Water Series, beating some of Australia's best! 4th Sydney-Gold Coast Race 1st Transatlantic Race 2018 (Bermuda to Hamburg) Having sailed the boat, it is clear a huge amount of time and money has been invested in her over the last decade, with project management coming from some very experienced people. The boat carries enough internal structure to be pushed offshore, whilst she has the horsepower to work on an inshore platform also. A MUST see if you want to be hoarding IRC or ORC trophies over the next few years, but please understand that boat now requires further investment to get back on the water.

Tp52 Boats for sale
2005 TP52 Reichel-Pugh
Bristol, Rhode Island
Model Reichel-Pugh
Posted Over 1 Month
2005 TP52 Reichel-Pugh Looking for a pedigreed racing machine? This TP52 has been winning races around NZ since the current owner purchased her and brought her here from San Diego. The owner, one of New Zealand's best, is moving on to bigger arena's, and is putting Kia Kaha on the market. This is your opportunity to own a boat outfitted with everything you need to put a campaign together. The TP52 Class Association was started in 2001 by owners who wanted to race a Grand Prix sailboat that is fun, safe and reliable. TP52’s are flat out racing platforms, fully crewed, high performance monohulls capable of racing in both buoy regattas and offshore races. The 2800 pound weight limit provides for approximately 14 crew members with the flexibility to bring along a guest or a sponsor in the back of the boat and out of harms way. TP52’s race in true time, the first boat across the finish line wins. TP52’s are designed to be raced by both amateur and professional sailors alike. TP52’s elected not to use water ballast, canting keels, running back stays; preferring to keep it simple, safe & reliable. They can easily exceed 25 knots off the wind with the record being 32 knots in a race set by 4 TP52’s racing down the California coast in 2003. Upwind, they are very stiff and fast as approximately 60% of the weight of the boat is in the metal fin & lead bulb. TP52’s have won most every bluewater regatta they have entered including; overall wins in the 2004 Bermuda Race, 2004 Chicago to Mackinac and the 2003 Transpac race to Hawaii. In buoy racing, they have won the 2005 Key West Race week, 2003 Miami SORC and the 2002-04 St. Francis Big Boat Series against the best boats in the world, plus the impressive resume of this TP52 as given in the Specifications section. Designed by Reichel Pugh and built in Spain; called Quantum Lexus and sailed by the famous Russell Coutts and some of the then young breed of Team NZ Sailors in 2005. TP52’s are tough carbon fiber machines custom designed & built to the TP52 Rule & ABS requirements. Owners hire their own builders and designers. Kia Kaha was built by the renowned Barcos Deportivos. The competition among the designers & builders is fierce, but also very healthy for the class, and sailing, as a whole. In addition, owners may select their sail maker, spar builder, winch maker and electronics packages. Owners are also free to hire professional crews or invite their friends aboard. Kia Kaha performance has since been optimized with IRC-sprit and larger spinnakers in 2010. New deck paint/non-skid applied in 2011. Fully offshore capable, all modifications engineered by Reichel-Pugh and completed by Brad Fitzgerald. She is the sister ship to "Patches", previously skippered and managed by British Olympic

Judel Vrolijk TP 52 ROCKALL Launched in 2007 out of the King Marine boat yard, Bribon was commissioned for the King of Spain with the aim to win the Audi Med Cup. The boat has had great success through her life as Flying Jenny, Ice Fire, RKO and now Rockall. In 2016 the concept of the original Bribon changed from an inshore TP52 to a more all-round TP 52. The owners put her through a full overhaul by further optimising her for IRC and to make her an offshore TP 52 as well. The conversion was a great success as Rockall is now an inshore and offshore TP 52 with her longer bowsprit, new sail inventory and carbon rigging. The upgrades continued in 2017/2018 with a PAC 52 designed rudder, new B&G H5000 processor and further updating the sail inventory to be more offshore orientated. Rockall has a proven pedigree as an inshore and offshore competitive TP 52 and possibly the ‘best buy’ TP52 at this price point. Currently Rockall is being stored indoors and looking for a new owner. This boat is a turn-key options for a TP 52 campaign at a very affordable price. Recent race results: • 1st Cabbage Tree Island Race beating "Ichi Ban" and 7 other 50 footers. • 1st Sydney Short Ocean Racing Championships • 2nd Overall Blue Water Series, beating some of Australia's best! • 4th Sydney-Gold Coast Race • 1st Transatlantic Race 2018 (Bermuda to Hamburg) Contact Performance Yacht Brokerage for more information or download the brochure.

The TP52 is generally seen as the ultimate Grand Prix Racer. For sure it is not the first yacht build to a boxrule, but the choices made when forming this particular box have proven to be lucky ones. This is underlined by quite a few classes following in our steps with similar choices. Because of its size, the number of crew and allowing the best of materials and building techniques this was never going to be a class for small budget campaigns.
TP52’s racing in the main events as the MedCup and the TP52 World Championship attract the best sailors of the globe and the teams are well supported on the shore and on the water. Luckily the exposure that these events get makes it possible to attract first class sponsors, money is around to fund these campaigns as soon as you can offer value in return. Around 2009 the balance between sponsored and private teams was about 50-50.
The TP52 is a simple racing machine. No moving parts under water other than a single centreline rudder, no complicated issues on deck or in the rig. Just high quality components allowing proper control of the boat and of a sails wardrobe build for optimum performence at every windangle and windspeed. The interior is the minimum required by the Safety Regulations and TP52 Rule, it is not truly aimed at offshore racing anymore, but is easy to update to the requirements of a TransPac for instance. In 2007 four TP52’s competed in that event. TP52’s are true Grand Prix Racers, so designed and build to withstand the abuse of yacht racing at the highest level, but not overbuilt and thus ensuring excellent performance. Once you get a chance to sail these magnificient machines and you join the game wherever it is played you will realise why so many before you choose for the TP52. By 2009 58 TP52’s have been constructed and they are all still racing. The main areas are the Med, USA, UK, Australia and Hong Kong.
From 2010 the TP52 will sport a bowsprit, twin backstays and a square head mainsail. The coachroof will be reduced further and the word simple in relation to the TP52 will get a new meaning. Crew will be reduced to 12 or 13, depending on their weight. Sailing displacement comes down several 100’s of kilo’s and the bulb will grow by over 600 kilo’s to keep the show on the road. New structural requirements and control on structural engineering by Germanischer Lloyd shall take care that it all stays together as well.
In 2011 the new TP52 Rule has kicked fully into action. The boats are now racing at reduced displacement (7300kg) and with more righting moment due to a deeper keel with a heavier bulb. Decks are even cleaner due to the latest ideas on equipment and reduced standing headroom requirements.
During 2013 another step towards the ultimate Fast & Fun boat has been set, the 2015 TP52 Rule is launched. The 2015 TP52 weighs 7000kg and sports more sailarea up and down wind. Draft is now 3.50 meter. The rig from 2015 on sports composite rigging and is build of UHM carbon for a whopping 60kg weight saving. It is all go, go, go… By May 2014 already five new builds were announced. Come October 2014 the total number of new builds stands at nine!! Bring on the 52 Super Series 2015, not for the faint hearted…
The 2015 Super Series has just finished and was a great success. As agreed by the members the box rule will not be changed on essential points between 2015 – 2017. For 2016 the only real change is that the displacement is lowered by 50kg.
Since September 2017 we know the boxrule will remain practically unchanged till 2021. Which does not mean you won’t see changes when looking at the new builds of 2018 compared with those of 2015. Expect subtal changes in cockpit layout and volume, expect most of the equipment to be seriously upgraded from what was top of the bill in 2015 and expect in general loads to go up in search for even better upwind performance. Expect the rigs to move slightly aft in the boats and foils to move with it and be optimized for this. The use of titanium from 2018 is free except that steel is still mandatory for metal parts in the rig in order not to obsolete the existing rigs. All new boats will sport a more environmentally friendly Yanmar engine, to go electric was one step too far when discussed but you never know, we might get there one day.
We are now in 2022 and the members have unanimously decided to continue with the current class rule till at least the end of 2025. In 2020, due to Covid, the boats only raced one event and in 2021 just three. So the latest generation TP52 going into 2023 have not raced more than 19 52 Super Series events during which most have been further optimized. In other words the fleet is better than new and easily has another three years of racing at the highest level in it.

Fastest race boat? Meet Wally’s new TP52 beater, the wallyrocket51
- Toby Hodges
- October 4, 2023
Wally Yachts has unveiled a new one-design racing yacht, the wallyrocket51. Toby Hodges takes a look at what Wally hopes to be the fastest race boat
Product Overview
“This will be the fastest boat in the world on corrected time,” Wally founder Luca Bassani announced at Ferretti Yachts’ global unveiling of the wallyrocket51 in September. On paper, the one-design racer should be faster than the top racing yachts in IRC and ORC classes, yet rates lower. Its potential for prizes (and fun) therefore looks highly promising.
‘Faster and less expensive’ is the slogan.
It’s a surprise move from the iconic Italian brand, which has latterly been focussed on large power yachts and performance cruising superyachts . This is its smallest new Wally since the 37ft Wally Nano daysailer 15 years ago, and by far the most race oriented.
And it’s deliberately pitted in this size range to line up against the most competitive class, the TP52s . “The benchmark boat to beat is the TP52,” Bassani confirms, “but Wally will always be faster.” He calculates that in a one hour race the wallyrocket51 will be 20-30 seconds quicker in real time and 40-50 seconds quicker on corrected time. That’s not bad over a typical two hour race!
The wallyrocket51’s sleek deck lines
Wallyrocket51, TP52 killer?
The 1ft less length is critical in allowing the design team to optimise the hull and appendages to get a rating bonus in other areas, such as the wallyrocket’s very light displacement, water ballast and a trim tab on the keel.
What really sets this new project apart from just marketing hyperbole, is that the naval architecture is by Botin Partners, the same designers behind some of the most successful TP52s. This studio’s designs have won 12 consecutive season titles, so it knows all the secrets of the class and design rules.
“It’s designed by Botin against a Botin. In light winds it will be faster in any condition,” says Bassani with a knowing smile.
The ultralight displacement of 6,250kg will be key to achieving such a promise. It compares with the TP52’s minimum displacement (governed by its box rule) of 6,975kg or the 8,250kg of the ClubSwan 50 . While there will be less crew aboard too…

ClubSwan 50 on test: the most extreme production yacht we’ve ever seen
The ClubSwan 50 is quite simply the most extreme-looking production yacht I’ve seen. No computer-enhanced renderings could do justice to…
The water ballast system has a 550-litre capacity, the equivalent of five crewmembers on the rail. It takes 80 seconds to fill, 60 seconds to ditch, and just 10 seconds to transfer from side to side.
Meanwhile, an adjustable trim tab on the trailing edge of the keel will help it go faster and higher, and crucially, not sideways, says Bassani. The aim of the trim tab is to produce lift upwind for a smaller keel stem profile to help produce neutral leeway. Aligning water flow with the boat also means less drag, hence Wally’s claims that it will sail higher and faster than the competition.
While it’s’ designed for 11 crew (935kg), the wallyrocket51 can actually be crewed with 8 or 9 aboard with the addition of a fully electric winch package, says Bassani. Nevertheless they have gone with twin grinding pedestals to avoid a higher rating penalty (the aft pedestal can be replaced by an electric motor for more shorthanded racing ).
Vasco Vascotto, one of the world’s most successful regatta sailors, and Argentinian Olympic sailor Guillermo Parada, are project developers, who have helped shape the one-design series as well as make the design easier to handle and fun. Vascotto believes the wallyrocket51 is something everyone is looking for and wants: “A yacht able to perform in all regatta fields, but at the same time that maintains the design and that is fun.”
The aft grinding pedestal can be replaced if electric winches are fitted for shorthanded sailing
Carrau expands further on this: “We looked at everything, from windward-leeward courses in 6 to 25 knots of wind, to the classic offshore 600-milers such as the Rolex Middle Sea , Rolex Giraglia, RORC Caribbean 600 or Fastnet Race … Indeed, our simulations show that she can beat her competition under IRC or ORC in any of those inshore or offshore scenarios.”
“The wallyrocket51 is very close to our hearts and has eluded us for years as we sought to develop a design that could win any regatta in the world,” continues Wally’s managing director Stefano de Vivo. “We have cracked it at last.”
The first wallyrocket51 is in build at Wally’s new carbon fibre specialist facility within Ferretti’s gargantuan 70,000m2 yard in Ravenna. This includes two new ovens to cook yachts up to 50m. “No one else has this facility,” says Bassani.
Hulls will be built in pre-preg carbon with Corecell foam, while Nomex is used as the core for the deck. Wallyrockets will sport high modulus Southern Spars masts, Future Fibres AeroSix rigging, and carry 164m2 of upwind sail and over 360m2 downwind.
So what about the cost – the ‘less expensive’ part of the slogan? ”It costs around €2m to run a TP52,” Bassani estimates, “but you will be able to run this for less than a third of that.” He puts this largely down to TPs needing those extra crew numbers over a full season of events. And that Wally will have strict rules on expenditure, which a one-design format helps control.
They will offer their staff to look after the boats, so he sees some clients doing long charters too.
Wally has prided itself on being a market innovator, claiming it is ‘30 years old but 20 years ahead’. As an example, it cites the beach terrace concept Bassani came up with in the late 1990s and which is used by many new designs today.
So why now? Why try to top a class which is already 20 years old? Bassani says that there is a need for a new racing class, something exciting but smart and reasonable. While secondly, he adds that: “fast and easy was always Wally… and we need to go back to fast!”
Wally has a network of owners and knows what they are looking for. With its new WallyWhy power range as potential motherships, Bassani believes the wallyrocket51 will be the perfect complement for racing. “It’s more fun and much less expensive than a 40m performance cruising sailing yacht,” he says, adding that such a superyacht is three to four times the price of a 90ft WallyWhy 200.
The first two wallyrocket51s are slated to launch in the summer of 2024.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine, attends a joint press conference with Swiss Federal President Viola Amherd after a meeting in Kehrsatz near Bern, Switzerland, Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. (AP)
Did Volodymyr Zelenskyy use US aid to buy yachts? No, that’s False
If your time is short.
The documents claiming to show the yacht purchases were fabricated. They include an outdated name and logo of a yacht association that supposedly approved the purchases.
The two yachts named in the documents, "Lucky Me" and "My Legacy," are still for sale.
- No spin, just facts you can trust. Here’s how we do it.
In the two years since Russia invaded Ukraine, the United States has sent Ukraine more than $75 billion in military and humanitarian aid. But some social media users are claiming Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is misusing the funds.
A Feb. 19 Instagram post shared an excerpt from a Nov. 27 episode of the "Redacted" podcast in which co-host Clayton Morris said Zelenskyy "somehow managed to buy two multimillion-dollar yachts … totaling $75 million." (Redacted removed this episode from its YouTube and Facebook accounts. Copies and a transcript of the video are still available online.)
Morris cited documents that he said showed Zelenskyy purchased two luxury yachts, "Lucky Me" and "My Legacy," in October 2023 using two associates as proxies.
"Americans, of course, are paying for this luxury, though. Your tax dollars, so Zelenskyy can live in luxury," said Morris, who has previously shared false claims about Zelenskyy, including that he was becoming a U.S. citizen .
The Instagram post’s caption said, "It’s a good thing that we’re able to give the president of the #Ukraine #billions of dollars to buy these #yachts and live an extravagant lifestyle. I mean, to fight a #war against #Russia."
(Screengrab from Instagram)
The post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta , which owns Facebook and Instagram.)
The purchase documents are inauthentic as they include outdated information. The yachts purportedly bought by Zelenskyy’s associates are still for sale.
The documents are titled "Memorandum of Agreement approved by the Mediterranean Yacht Brokers Association." However, the organization that supposedly approved this 2023 sale changed its name to MYBA The Worldwide Yachting Association in 2008. MYBA also uses a different logo now than the one shown on the documents.
Featured Fact-check
A blank version of MYBA’s memorandum of agreement document from 2005 is available to download for free online.
The two yachts were supposedly purchased by Boris and Serhiy Shefir, close friends and business partners of Zelenskyy’s. Before Zelenskyy was elected Ukraine’s president in 2019, he and the Shefir brothers worked together at the film production company Kvartal 95 Studio.
Boris Shefir supposedly purchased the yacht called "Lucky Me" for $24.9 million on Oct. 18, 2023, one of the documents says. However, as of Feb. 21, the luxury yacht company BehneMar still listed the yacht for sale for 19 million euros, or about $20.5 million U.S. dollars.
A week after Boris Shefir’s purported purchase, Serhiy Shefir supposedly purchased the "My Legacy" yacht for $49.75 million on Oct. 25, 2023, the other document says. However, as of Feb. 21, this yacht was also still listed for sale for about 45 million euros, or about $48 million U.S. dollars.
Although these purchases were fabricated, Zelenskyy’s financial relationship with Boris and Serhiy Shefir has been called into question in the past.
In 2021, the Pandora Papers revealed that a month before Zelenskyy was elected president, he transferred previously undisclosed shares in an offshore company, Maltex Multicapital Corp., to Serhiy Shefir, who later joined Zelenskyy’s administration. Boris Shefir was also a part-owner of Maltex, but he said he was unaware of the offshore arrangement, the nonprofit Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project reported at the time.
Multiple government agencies and hundreds of personnel are overseeing the U.S. aid sent to Ukraine. Experts told PolitiFact in February 2023 that there are checks in place to prevent misuse, such as funneling economic aid through the World Bank and humanitarian aid through nongovernmental aid groups.
The Senate recently passed a $95 billion emergency spending package that would allocate additional funding to support Ukraine, as well as aid for Israel and Gaza. But the package faces Republican opposition in the House.
We rate the claim that Zelenskyy used U.S. aid funds to buy two yachts for $75 million False.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital
There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.
How to find the right boat?
There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.
Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.
This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.
Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such option offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).
If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.
Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.
How to buy tickets?
Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.
“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!” wrote (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.
Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.
Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.
Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.
Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as this offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.
This website (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other website sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.
Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.
“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.
There are two main boarding piers in the city center: Hotel Ukraine and Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.
Where to sit onboard?
Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.
The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.
Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.
There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
