Riviera’s new-era 78 motor yacht spectacular.

In a spectacular world-wide premiere, Australia’s luxury motor yacht builder, Riviera, has launched its exceptional new 78 Motor Yacht.

Following more than 42 years of evolution and with more than 5,800 yachts launched and now being enjoyed around the world, the 78 Motor Yacht design represents a new era for Riviera.

Guests at the world premiere of the 78 Motor Yacht experienced first-hand the distinguished new era of Riviera yacht design.

Riviera Australia owner Rodney Longhurst said the team brought a combined passion for excellence to create a sophisticated yacht that delivers a superb combination of family cruising, entertaining and blue-water passage-making capabilities.

He said the 11 owners all enjoyed an exclusive preview at Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast a week before the official launch.

As guests enjoyed sunset cocktails, the magnificent titanium coloured yacht arrived, and spotlights swept through the evening sky to reveal the elegant lines and profile of the 78. As she pirouetted to an expectant audience, the song Firework was delivered powerfully from the foredeck. She then docked and the guests were invited to step on board for their first view of the yacht.

The venue was buzzing with excitement over the 78 Motor yachts grand entrance.

As they inspected the motor yacht, 78 owners’ comments included: “You’ve considered every detail – you’ve done the best job ever, and it exceeds my expectations” and “I want to congratulate Riviera upon this huge achievement” and “I have goose bumps…. it’s just spectacular.”

She has been designed in an exciting collaboration between the award-winning Riviera team of designers, engineers and craftspeople at the company’s headquarters on Queensland’s Gold Coast and superyacht designer Luca Vallebona.

During an interview from his home on the island of Sardinia in Italy, Luca said: “We decided to do something that was contemporary but not the showroom styling that you see especially in some designs.

“What I love is the way we are mixing our different cultures, the Australian one and the European one and we have found a good balance that will make everyone happy.

“Going forward from the aft saloon deck to the interior of the 78, I think is an incredible space.

“We worked hard as a team to find the right balance in the interior design. I think we achieved a very good outcome. We have introduced new concepts and they look superb.”

Step aboard

The 78 Motor Yacht offers options of an enclosed or open bridge deck and includes luxurious accommodation for up to 10 adults in four luxurious staterooms and crew quarters.

The first element guests at the exclusive preview noticed was the teak-laid swim platform. It was developed to provide a three-step design that spans the full width of the platform and can be lowered into the water to make access simple both for swimming and launching water sports equipment. A swim ladder is incorporated into the side of the platform.

Two doors are built into the transom. A watertight door on the starboard side provides access to the full-height engine room and crew quarters. A larger door on the port side lifts to reveal a garage for water sports, diving and fishing equipment. A shower is built into the underside of the door.

Alfresco Deck

Stepping up from the swim platform, the semi-enclosed saloon deck, covered entirely by the bridge deck overhang, features teak decking, and includes plush lounges across the transom, and an L-shape lounge in the starboard fore quarter around a fold-out teak dining table and comprehensive barbecue centre to port. Teak deck chairs can be added around the dining table to accommodate up to eight guests. A screen across the transom can be lowered for privacy and protection from weather.

This deck includes wing doors on either side of the coaming that can be opened for entry or exit to a fixed dock.

Elegant interior

An electric sliding door opens to reveal the interior of the vast saloon deck with its large U-shape galley immediately to starboard, positioned equally to serve guests on the aft deck or in the saloon. A large window slides down electrically to open the galley to guests on the deck aft.

The galley features Caesarstone benchtops that display a three-burner induction hob and twin underslung stainless-steel sinks. This space also includes twin ovens, a dishwasher, a pair of full-height refrigerators and ample storage drawers and cupboards. Ceasarstone is also utilised on benchtops for the saloon and bridge wet bars.

Superbly varnished, finely grain-matched high-gloss teak features throughout the interior was selected for this yacht.

One of the key design features of the 78 Motor Yacht is flush surfaces throughout the interior, including concealed latches on drawers and cupboards. Panelling is utilised on fridge and icemaker doors to blend with the interior decor.

Premium fabrics and finishes are utilised extensively throughout the interior and owners personalise their yacht from the very beginning of their build, deciding on furniture placement, colours and fabrics and how they wish to best utilise the many spaces on board.

The generous saloon space on this yacht features two premium comfort lounges; a large L-shape lounge to starboard and a two-seat lounge along the port side aft of a comprehensive wet bar. An ottoman is placed over an elegant rug at the centre of this space.

Forward on the starboard side, a watertight door leads to the side deck and, from there, to the entertainer’s foredeck. This highly versatile space offers a number of entertaining layouts and a Euro sun awning with the option to carry a tender or jetski and davit.

The command centre

An internal timber staircase leads from the port side of the main saloon to the bridge deck with its super-yacht like dash accommodating four large navigation screens. The leather captain’s chair is on the yacht’s centreline with companion chairs on either side.

Immediately to starboard of the captain is an extended console with engine controls. Aft is a leather lounge and ottoman and entertainment unit. An electrically-operated double sliding and stacking glass door opens up to connect the bridge interior and exterior as one space and leading to the deck with a bar including twin high seats, a U-shape lounge and teak fold-out dining table. The optional day head is in the starboard forward quarter of this space. The coaming on this deck includes port and starboard joysticks for slow-speed manoeuvring.

Luxurious accommodation deck

An elegant, curved timber staircase from the forward end of the main saloon leads to the accommodation deck with its four luxurious staterooms and three bathrooms. The full-beam Master suite amidships is bathed with natural light from extended hull windows. It provides an electrically adjustable king-size bed and extended his-and-hers en-suite bathroom. A striking timber feature adorns the aft wall. The VIP guest stateroom, fitted with a queen double bed boats hull windows and twin overhead hatches, is forward with an en-suite bathroom. The port stateroom offers twin beds that can slide together to form a double at the touch of a button. An option for this stateroom is a double bed. A third bathroom is the ensuite for this stateroom and can act as a day head. The starboard stateroom includes two adult single cross-over berths.

This magnificent new motor yacht is powered by twin MAN 2000 turbo diesel engines delivering 2,000hp (1,471kW) each through Twin Disc Quickshift gearboxes. She includes Twin Disc’s Express Joystick System with the integrated station-hold Express Positioning System.

Engine Room

Power options include twin MAN 1550 engines providing 1,140kW (1,550hp) each or twin MAN 1800 engines that deliver 1,324kW (1,800hp) each.

With 10,200 litres of fuel available, she is capable of cruising for more than 1,000 nautical miles or offer speed over 30 knots.

The yacht includes Humphree carbon fibre fin stabilisation.

Riviera Launches 58 Sports Motor Yacht

Australian yacht builder Riviera has launched its 58 Sports Motor Yacht, the latest model in this six-yacht series, which also includes 46 -, 50, 64- , 68- and 72-footers .

The yacht has a three-stateroom, three-head layout, making it a solid fit for extended cruising with family and friends. The staterooms are accessed via a stairway on centerline from the salon. The owners’ stateroom is full-beam with a queen-size berth, en suite head, walk-in closet and a breakfast bar.

In a press release Riviera stated, “The space aft of the master stateroom can be personalised to suit the owners’ needs; perhaps as a laundry, utility room, crew cabin, additional accommodation with a separate bathroom, or even a mini gymnasium.”

The forepeak VIP also has a queen-size berth with walkaround room as well as an en suite head. The third guest stateroom is abaft and to port with twin single berths with bedside tables. The berths slide together with the push of a button for couples. The third stateroom is across the companionway to starboard, serving as the day head.

The efficiency of the belowdecks layout is also reflected in the salon arrangement, creating several social zones.

It starts with the 58 Sports motor Yacht’s U-shaped galley aft, which is penned to easily serve guests in the salon as well as those seated at the shaded al fresco deck and in the cockpit. Open the galley window to create a seamless connection between the inside and outside spaces.

Forward and to port is an L-shaped settee, designed to let guests take in the views underway via nearly 360 degrees of glass. Abaft to starboard is a U-shaped dinette for casual meals. Directly across is the internal stairway that leads to the enclosed flybridge helm station.

The 58 Sports Motor Yacht’s aforementioned al fresco deck, which is protected from the elements via glass quarter panels, is cleverly arranged just a couple of steps up from the cockpit. This perch creates clear views aft to watch the kids swimming or to keep an eye on trolled baits when fishing for dinner. There is U-shaped seating around a high-gloss teak dining table to starboard with a settee to port.

In addition to being a formidable cruising platform, the 58 Sports Motor Yacht’s cockpit can be arranged for angling enthusiasts, diving and water sports fans, entertainment-centric cruisers or a little bit of all of it. A nearly full-beam and optional hydraulic swim platform lets owners launch and retrieve a tender or PWC.

There are two more al fresco entertainment spaces on board the 58 Sports Motor Yacht. The first is on the foredeck, where guests can enjoy an L-shaped lounge as well as seating that converts to a pad, all set around a table for meals on the hook. Just add carbon fiber poles to put up an awning for shade from the midday sun. Owners can also add a davit and stow their tender here.

The final al fresco next space is found on the after deck of the all-weather flybridge. Riviera says, “In similar style to the salon below, the flybridge opens and flows out to the aft deck. At anchor, this is a splendid private retreat or boutique entertaining area complete with wrap-around corner lounge, folding timber table, wet bar, refrigerator, sink and solid surface benchtop. To assist the skipper, the aft deck has an additional joystick control station with excellent visibility for precise docking or sport fishing.”

Forward and to port is the helm station with two hand-stitched-leather seats. According to Riviera, “The helm is state-of-the-art, featuring touchscreen navigation and operation technology…” There is also an electric sunroof and side sliding windows that enable fresh breezes.

Power for the Riviera 58 Sports Motor Yacht is a twin 1,000 hp Volvo Penta IPS1350 diesels.

Riviera announces exceptional new 58 Sports Motor Yacht

Riviera, Australia’s world-class luxury motor yacht builder, has announced today at the opening of the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show the exceptional new 58 Sports Motor Yacht that will premiere in late 2023.  The 58 SMY joins an exceptional line-up of Sports Motor Yachts that began 6 years ago with the launch of the 68.  Now the range extends to six models including the 46, 50, 64 and 72.

Riviera’s Sports Motor Yachts are uniquely specified craft that reward owners with endless adventure, enjoyed in absolute luxury.  And the 58 SMY will offer all the Sports Motor Yacht essentials including all-water sports cockpit, walk-around side decks, foredeck lounge and entertaining zone, all-weather alfresco deck entertaining, and a spacious, luxurious saloon with internal staircase to a fully-enclosed, air-conditioned flybridge and state-of-the-art helm.

The accommodation deck is extremely spacious with three staterooms and three bathrooms.  The full-beam master suite is pure luxury with a private bathroom and walk-in wardrobe, as well as an optional breakfast bar and fridge. 

And there’s more to admire on the accommodation deck with a utility room or crew cabin aft of the master. As a utility room, diving and fishing gear can be passed down from the cockpit via the engine room and stowed; or you can use this space as a personalised laundry with separate washer and dryer, easily accessed via the walk-in wardrobe of the master suite.

Welcome aboard the 58 Sports Motor Yacht

Step onto the large boarding platform and enter the cockpit via the port or starboard transom doors.  At anchor, these open out and lock flush against the transom, effectively extending the cockpit and creating a large water sports or entertaining platform.  Owners may select an optional high/low hydraulic platform; which enables the launch and retrieval of watercraft without getting your feet wet.

The cockpit is designed for both water sports action and easy entertaining. Portside of the entry to the alfresco deck is a barbecue centre.  Lifting the moulded lid reveals a premium twin-plate electric barbecue, sink and integrated rubbish bin.  Ample storage is below. Starboard of the steps is an icemaker and insulated icebox or optional freezer.  On the corner above is a moulded hatch protecting an IPS joystick; conveniently located for the skipper to control slow speed manoeuvring and docking.  There’s also a portside option or dual controls.

Stepping up from the cockpit is the alfresco deck, the entertaining and dining centre of the 58 Sports Motor Yacht.  A plush lounge to port converts to a double daybed for lazy afternoons.  Opposite is an L-shaped lounge/dining area with a handcrafted folding teak table complete with drink holders.  A cool box is located under this lounge with refrigeration as an option.  Two matching ottomans offer occasional seating around the table.  

Both sides of the alfresco deck feature glass quarter panels offering one-way privacy and protection from the elements.  A large deck hatch provides excellent service access to the engine room.

Moving to the foredeck, the wide side decks incorporate an innovative drainage design that diverts wash-down water or offshore spray overboard before it can flow down into the cockpit. 

The foredeck offers another entertaining or relaxation space; perfectly suited for sunset drinks with plush lounge seating for up to eight guests, a removable GRP table with drink holders, insulated cool box and stereo speakers linked to the saloon entertainment system.  Large lockers provide easy stowing of fenders, ropes, the table and optional awning.  Owners have the option of carrying the tender on the foredeck with a davit for launch and retrieval; and once launched you are then able to enjoy the foredeck entertaining zone.

Superb saloon

Slide open the tinted glass door, then open out the large, tinted glass awning window; now the alfresco deck connects and flows through to the saloon and galley creating one grand living and entertaining space.  As you enter the saloon, the staircase leading up to the flybridge is portside. Aft of this staircase is a full height refrigerator with two freezer drawers below, designed to service the galley opposite. Under the steps is a fine example of Riviera’s renowned craftsmanship; an elegant bar/serving station with double-door fridge, wine cooler and drinks cabinet for bottles and glassware. 

The U-shaped gourmet galley is superbly equipped with premium appliances beautifully integrated into handcrafted timber joinery.  A three-hotplate induction cooktop features removable potholders, and a combination oven/microwave with integrated grill and a dishwasher are under the benchtop. Forward of the galley to starboard is a plush, L-shaped leather lounge dining area with folding timber table. Another L-shaped designer lounge is located portside for guests to stretch out and relax, complete with a matching ottoman that doubles as a coffee table with the flip of a cushion. Lower the window blinds and the saloon becomes a cinema room with a premium sound system and large TV that rises from the cabinetry at the press of a button.

And in true motor yacht style, the saloon features a space-saving portside door for quick and easy access from the galley to the foredeck entertaining lounge; access to the side deck to tend to mooring lines; or simply to invite a cool breeze to flow through the saloon at anchor.

Sensational flybridge 

Exciting and innovative, the air-conditioned flybridge of the 58 Sports Motor Yacht takes comfort and luxury to a new level. So generous in size and so well-appointed, the flybridge feels more like a saloon. Commanding views of the water are enhanced by an extremely quiet ride, even when this astonishing craft is in full flight. Enjoy the plush comfort of the L-shaped designer lounge complete with matching ottoman coffee table. There’s a drawer fridge for refreshments as well as an ingenious slide-out double bed to provide additional accommodation for guests or crew on overnight passages.

In similar style to the saloon below, the flybridge opens and flows out to the aft deck. At anchor, this is a splendid private retreat or boutique entertaining area complete with wraparound corner lounge, folding timber table, wet bar, refrigerator, sink and solid surface benchtop. To assist the skipper, the aft deck has an additional joystick control station with excellent visibility for precise docking or sport fishing.

Commanding helm

The Riviera luxury motor yacht helm is state-of-the-art, featuring touchscreen navigation and operation technology, all designed to make your boating even easier and more enjoyable. Total control is at your fingertips and visibility is outstanding through the curved tempered glass windscreen.  Captain and companion chairs are fully adjustable and deeply comfortable with the added luxury of hand-stitched leather. Guests can join the skipper whilst underway and enjoy commanding views from the companion lounge.  An impressive electric sunroof slides back at the push of a button and side sliding windows open to invite a cool breeze whilst underway or at anchor.

Opulent accommodation 

A forward central stairway leads from the saloon to the light-filled and substantial accommodation deck that includes three luxurious staterooms and three bathrooms.

The full-beam master suite amidships is brilliantly bathed in light and fresh air from large hull windows with integrated opening portholes. It features a king-sized walk-around bed, casual dining or study to the port side, a cedar-lined walk-in wardrobe aft on the starboard side, and a generous ensuite bathroom forward, also to starboard. Forward is an optional bar fridge with a servery for a coffee machine, providing the perfect minibar within the master stateroom.

A highly practical and generous space aft of the master stateroom can be personalised to suit an owners’ needs; perhaps as a laundry, utility room, crew cabin, additional accommodation with a separate bathroom, or even a mini gymnasium. Fitted out as a laundry or utility room, the space includes an under-bench washing machine and dryer with an adjacent linen cupboard, and a sink and storage unit with hull window and opening porthole. In the crew cabin layout, a bathroom is to port and a single berth is above the washing machine and dryer. The aft bulkhead has a wide, watertight door that provides excellent access to the engine room.

The VIP guest stateroom forward includes an ensuite bathroom and a queen-sized walk-around bed, with an abundance of storage underneath. There is further storage in two overhead lockers, a double hanging robe or an additional robe with shelving. Fresh air and light are introduced to the stateroom from twin overhead deck hatches and large hull windows. 

The second guest stateroom to port features two single berths with bedside tables. At the touch of a button, the two berths slide together to form a double. There is also a large hull window with opening porthole and a hanging locker. The third bathroom is opposite on the starboard side and acts as the day head.

Options for even greater convenience, comfort and style 

There is an option for a winged sports pack arch to be added to the flybridge hardtop to carry radar and communications domes, as well as an optional trickle-charge solar panel connected to the 12-volt battery system.

Owners can also opt for gyroscopic or fin stabilisation aboard the 58 Sports Motor Yacht. The gyro option is set under the cockpit. The fin option provides even more space in the lazarette, as the head units are mounted in the engine room.

The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance.
