1982 Non Such Hinterhouller sailboat 30ft x 12ft

Woodstock, Georgia

Make Non Such

1982 Non-Such Hinterhouller Cat boat. These are Great sailing boats and very easy to sail. Once the sail is up you can just sit back and enjoy the ride. Tacking is so easy and this boat responds in the lightest wind. The cockpit is huge for a 30 foot boat. The 12 ft beam is incredible inside. It has the room of most 35ft boats. The Volvo inboard runs great and has plenty of power. The teak holly floor is in great shape and was replace once. The boat needs some work but is in sail shape and is taken out as is. The paint below the rub rails need to be painted and new bottom paint which is why its the cheapest 30 ft non- such in the world. It was out the water and cleaned 2 years ago. This boat brings 35-50k in top shape please do your research you will not have a chance to get a working sailing Non-Such for such a great deal. The boat needs some tlc new lines, cleaning, overall exterior cleaning and teak work, but is overall very sound. This is the perfect boat for an elder sailor or someone that loves to sail with very little work like I said you sit back and have fun no winching when your sailing. Forward Cabin. . Double Berth to Port, single berth Starboard with upper shelf for storage. Beneath has storage space that includes two small vertical Drawers. The cushions are original and show wear but no rips. The Shower Salon and Head Area is very large with propane water heater. The Head area contains a Counter that includes a Stainless Steel Sink. Under the sink is storage space. The Galley is L shaped, and located on the Port side with a large Counter top. A deep Stainless Steel Sink is supported with both Manual and Automatic systems to provide Water Access. Located below the Sink is a stowage locker to store, Cleaners and various other articles. Also provides access to Bronze thru Hole fittings, and pump for different water flow setting. Aft of the cold storage area is a Gimbaled Range Stove and Oven. Aft is a 6'6 Foot Settee and under the Settee is the other water tank plus additional storage. Sail area is an incredible 540 Sq. feet, with two reefing points. Raising the Sail is simplified via the use of the windless. In addition to Raising the sail, all aspects of necessary sail adjustments, including, reefing are controlled within the Cockpit. When the Sail is lowered, it settles into Lazy Jack Lines. The sail is original and in good working order. There are three lockers in the Cockpit, Port and Starboard, with easy access to the Engine, the third aft for two Propane tanks. Extra lines etc. This boat is built like a brick shit house. It leaks no water and I would sail it anywhere. It is a great live aboard. The folding swim Ladder is located on the Stern. Custom made Cockpit Cushions cover the entire seating area. There is a bimini frame needs new cover. Forward, the Vessel has a bowsprit with rollers to accommodate two anchors, A 35 lb. CQR and 30 lb. Danforth.... Additional Equipment included: Fire extinguishers, fenders, life jackets, Dock lines and extra lines. I have a great shipper and have can get a quote for you around 2500 to Panama city or Ga coast. This is at your expense. I am working slowly on the boat and it will be slowly going up in price. I require a 1000k deposit in 2 days and total payment in 7 days. If you put a deposit on it and come see it you can get your deposit back if you don't like it. If you don't even show up deposit will not be refunded. Please call before you buy it now. Due to people not even coming to see it. It is in lake Lanier in Atlanta Ga. Thank you for reading my ad Capt Darrell 404 201 4812. Call 8am to 8 pm eastern time please. More pics coming.

Basic specs., sailing characteristics.

This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.

The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Zef Lux is about 38 kg/cm, alternatively 213 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 38 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 213 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

Steps for Replacing my HBW50 transmission with ZF 12M

I just purchased a 2016 Catalina 310. One week after purchase, the transmission went bad. I had a feeling something was wrong with it. I purchased a new ZF 12M transmission and damper plate. I am debating whether to attempt the replacement myself or have the marina mechanic do it. Can someone give me some info on what this job would entail? What can I expect? What are the steps for removing the old transmission? What needs to be removed? Do I need to remove the bell housing? Do I need to lift the engine? I really appreciate any info.

Different boat model and engine but the process is the same.

Replacing a transmission is essentially a nut and bolt operation. Unbolt a bunch of stuff and bolt the new stuff in. The most challenging parts are separating the flange from the shaft and realigning the engine if it needs it. When we replaced the transmission on our Yanmar it was necessary to replace the bell housing with a couple of adapter plates as the bolt pattern on the ZF 12M was different from the original. It was also necessary to change the flange because the dimensions were subtly different. While you have every thing apart consider replacing the flange anyway with a split flange. It is easier to install and remove. Spray the new flange with a anticorrosion spray, like CRC Anticorrosion, after it is installed.

Ward H

Are you aware of the size differences between the HBW50 and ZF 12M? Catalina Direct shows this: "Important differences when compared to HBW 50 transmission • Front to back (L + L3) : +37mm (+1.46") • Output shaft drop from crank: +10mm (.39") Will require raising the engine 10mm • Reduction ratio 12M vs HBW 50: 2.14:1 vs. 2.05:1" Those differences don't sound like much but length alone could be a problem, especially if you have to move the engine forward as then you would need to raise it higher than the .39" listed. That or you would need to take out the 1.46" of shaft somewhere. If it can't be taken off the flange, then where? @dlochner On my C30 the 12M would require major work. Was it easier on your Sabre?

Also....if you're doing it afloat and if you have a dripless shaft seal (PYI or similar) you need to secure it before you lose the force on the bellows when removing the tranny .

A friend just had to do this with his mkii C30, he'd had original trans rebuilt about 12 years ago and it failed last winter. He had someone do the replacement while it was in the water, fit was a problem and after consultation with the factory there was a grinder used to make it fit. Took a long time to get it accomplished.

dlochner said: I did remove my transmission while floating and do have a PSS shaft seal. The weight of the prop and shaft was enough to keep the seal closed. It did leak some if the shaft was out of position, but it wasn't a problem in the long run. Just for a few flooding minutes until it sealed. Click to expand

I agree that removing the transmission for rebuild and reinstalling is just wrenching. Replacing with a different transmission with different offset and length may be more than just wrenching. If I had gone with the 12M I would have had to do a lot of cutting, fiberglassing and finishing. I found the Twin Disc TMCC40 which had minimal offset and even less length to adapt to. It was just wrenching because it was sized so close to the original.

SimiSAilor said: Hi Lou, I made the swap a few years ago. It was a lot of work, but doable. It is a good time to replace the damper and engine mounts. First remove the fire wall bulkhead, watch out for hidden screws. Separate the prop shaft from the trans at the coupler and move the shaft aft as far as possible, unbolt the engine mounts from the hull and slide the engine forward a few inches. Don't disconnect anything on the engine. Now you should have enough room to unbolt and slide the transmission aft far enough to clear the input shaft on the engine side. This also provides access to the damper plate bolts. Please reference the owners manual for the specs on engine alignment and dimensions for setting the engine height in the engine mounts. I needed to shim the mounts up to get within specs. Getting the prop shaft coupler aligned was a major task, took me a long time. With the new damper and mounts and correct idle speed there is no vibration. Now for the issues I found. My prop shaft zinc was installed forward of the cutlass bearing strut and had to be removed to enable the shaft to slide aft. I also had to fabricate a new bracket to hold the shift control cable. Another issue to watch for is the shaft log hose that holds the gland nut. I replaced this hose and the four clamps, obviously at the first haul out, with as short a hose as possible. Now repacking the gland nut is doable, still not easy. Yes, the prop now sits a little farther aft, it works just fine. The short answer is no you don't need to remove the bell housing and no you don't lift the engine much. I rigged a 4x4 over the hatch with a come along to help "reposition " the engine and swap the engine mounts. . View attachment 216754 View attachment 216756 Click to expand

The 12M bolts directly to your existing bell housing. No adapter or modification necessary. Jeff

jviss

If it's just a bolt on, you are lucky! If I have to replace mine it's a new bell housing for around $1,0000, and lots of fiddling.

RitSim

I changed my ZF trans on my C30 a few years ago. Replaced it with a Twindisc and was very happy. I raised the engine with a deflated soccer ball and then blocked the engine. I bought a damper plate on-line by matching pictures and dimensions - worked great. Replaced a lot of rusted metric bolts (Bolt Warehouse I think). On my boat, I had to remove the bell housing because the transmission was bolted to the Bell housing from inside. I created one issue by overthinking- I added lock washers to those bolts and there wasn't sufficient room between the bolt heads and the rotating parts. Had to take it all apart again. The only other issue was that the Twindisc shift lever (don't remember here) was either opposite side or opposite function causing a minor change in the cable support.

I was so impressed with all the responses to this post. Thanks everyone for your input. I finally got around to doing the transmission install and everything in this thread was spot on. The ZF12 transmission was an exact bolt on to me Universal M25XPB. The original adapter plate fit perfectly. The fiberglass tab underneath the transmission needed to be trimmed to give the larger ZF12 transmission room seat. This was an easy adjustment. The shaft needed to be moved aft about 1.5 inches to allow for the 37mm longer transmission. The engine needed to be lifted up a about 5 inches so that the new transmission could be attached to the engine which was also a very easy procedure. I would say the most difficult thing was wrenching the bolts on the transmission because of the tight space to work with. It was recommended by everyone that if you do this job, replace the damper plate... Very good advise. The splines on the old adapter plate were severely damaged. Is anyone interested is purchasing a used HBW50 that needs a rebuild? Make me an offer. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Biden-Harris Administration Releases First-Ever National Strategy to Accelerate Deployment of Zero-Emission Infrastructure for Freight Trucks

Landmark Strategy Will Build on New National Electric Vehicle Freight Corridors Designated by the Federal Highway Administration and Advance the President’s Clean Transportation Goal to Decarbonize the Freight Sector to Improve Our Communities, the Environment, and the Economy

FHWA 09-24 Contact: [email protected] Tel: (202) 366-0660

Washington, D.C. – The Biden-Harris Administration today released the National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy . Developed by the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), in collaboration with the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Strategy will guide the deployment of zero-emission medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (ZE-MHDV) charging and hydrogen fueling infrastructure from 2024 to 2040. The Strategy is designed to meet growing market demands by targeting public investment to amplify private sector momentum, focus utility and regulatory energy planning, align industry activity, and improve air quality in local communities heavily impacted by diesel emissions.

“For over a century, petroleum-fueled freight has transported vital food and resources to American families but at the same time, these vehicles have also contributed to lower public health, especially in densely populated communities,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm . “The Biden-Harris Administration is addressing this issue head-on with innovative strategies to transform freight so it not only supports American families and businesses, but also protects the environment for future generations.”

“This is a big move to deliver environmental justice – 75% of heavy truck traffic travels on just 4% of our nation’s roads, jeopardizing the health of our most vulnerable communities,” said President Biden’s National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi . “President Biden’s historic investments in zero-emission infrastructure on those high-traffic roads and the hubs they connect will rapidly transform freight transport in the U.S. and strengthen American innovation. Through the President’s whole-of-government strategy, this administration is delivering a win-win-win for frontline communities who will benefit from cleaner air, businesses that will save millions on fuel costs, and for our climate.”

“This landmark strategy brings us one step closer to achieving a zero-emission transportation sector that provides clean air for communities, creates market certainty for industries investing in clean technology, and strengthens our supply chains,” said Senator Alex Padilla . “I’m grateful to the Administration for advancing this whole-of-government effort and heeding my calls to launch a national strategy to accelerate the build-out of heavy-duty vehicle infrastructure. This all-hands-on-deck approach from the federal government and industry partners will enable us to realize California’s and the Administration’s zero-emission goals.

Providing ubiquitous and convenient access to electric vehicle (EV) charging and hydrogen refueling along our nation’s freight corridors and at intermodal freight facilities and high-usage ports is key to achieving U.S. goals to promote at least 30 percent ZE-MHDV sales by 2030 and 100 percent sales by 2040 . The goal of the Strategy is to align public policy and investments by prioritizing, sequencing, and accelerating infrastructure along the National Highway Freight Network (NHFN) in four phases. A core objective of the Strategy is to meet freight truck and technology markets where they are today, determine where they are likely to develop next, and set an ambitious pathway that mobilizes actions to achieve decarbonization.

Map of National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy, Phase 1: Establish Hubs (2024-2027)

In alignment with the Joint Office’s National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy, the Federal Highway Administration is announcing the designation of National EV Freight Corridors along the National Highway Freight Network and other key roadways. The designations, which are required by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), are a critical part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s strategy for building out a convenient, reliable, and made-in-America national EV charging network that supports individual drivers and commercial needs.

Battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicle technology along with other zero-emission forms of freight transport have considerable potential to save Americans money on consumer goods thanks to reduced fueling and maintenance costs associated with transport, all while delivering significant health benefits for historically disadvantaged populations that suffer the worst impacts of pollution from freight emissions and helping achieve national climate goals.

“The Federal Highway Administration is pleased to announce these new freight EV corridor designations along our national highways,” said Federal Highway Administrator Shailen Bhatt . “Medium- and heavy-duty trucks in our current freight network contribute approximately 23% of greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. transportation sector. These new designations and Strategy will help to grow our national EV charging network, encourage clean commerce within the freight community, and support President Biden’s goals of achieving net-zero emissions for the nation by 2050.”

Map of the United States showing major highways that have been designated as Freight EV Corridors. Most of the highways are part of the National Highway Freight Network, which was the preliminary designation.

Under President Biden’s leadership, the number of publicly available EV chargers nationwide has increased by more than 80% to more than 173,000, and at least 40 U.S.-based facilities to produce EV chargers have been announced or opened. President Biden’s Investing in America agenda has attracted more than $25 billion of investment in the U.S. EV charging network. Today’s freight corridor designations are expected to crowd in even more investment for EV charging, with a particular focus on the needs of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles.

This is an all-of-government approach to aligning investments and accelerating sustainable and scalable deployment of reliable ZE-MHDV infrastructure. Focusing deployment on areas with substantial freight volume starts deployment in areas with the most opportunity to spark further investment. Deployment factors include corridor segment usage by freight volume, port usage by annual freight tonnage, projected ZE-MHDV volumes, disproportionate environmental and air quality burden from MHDV transportation and non-attainment for criteria air pollutants, states with ZEV deployment-enabling policies, and “on the ground” planning through DOE’s commercial ZEV corridor planning grants.

The National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy will prioritize, sequence, and accelerate infrastructure along key freight corridors and hubs in four phases. The phases include:

  • Establish priority hubs based on freight volumes (2024-2027)
  • Connect hubs along critical freight corridors (2027-2030)
  • Expand corridor connections initiating network development (2030-2035)
  • Achieve national network by linking regional corridors for ubiquitous access (2035-2040)

See the National Zero-Emission Freight Corridor Strategy for additional maps and detail.

The all-electric-powered Candela P-12 ferry flies over the water on hydrofoils

I would never say “I told you so,” but…now that Candela , the world’s leading producer of all-electric-powered hydrofoiling boats, has just closed the largest funding round in the company's history, I might be bold enough to say…”I’m not surprised.”

That’s because I’ve been closely following the development of this wonderfully smart company’s hydrofoiling boats since I test flew a P-7 near their small and efficient shop in Stockholm in 2021. So, I’m really not surprised they just raised over $25 million to expand production of their game-changing P-12 ferry. And since yacht building powerhouse Groupe Beneteau is a key partner in the largest fundraising round Candela has ever completed it appears Candela’s brand of tech-controled hydrofoiling is about to go global.

“Our investment perfectly aligns with Groupe Beneteau‘s ecological transition objectives, scaling up innovative solutions for more sustainable boating and unparalleled experiences,” says Bruno Thivoyon, CEO of Groupe Beneteau, the world's largest boat manufacturer (15 factories, 9 brands, and more than 8,000 yachts built annually) with a total revenue of over $1.5 billion in 2023. “Candela’s technology, enabling significantly more efficient electric vessels, will transform waterborne transport into its next sustainable phase.”

A Candela P-8 and P-12 underway near Stockholm, Sweden

“We couldn’t be more excited about having Groupe Beneteau on board,” says Gustav Hasselskog, Founder and CEO of Candela. “As the leading global boat company, their trust is a stamp of approval for our technology to transform waterborne transportation. We’re excited for the possibilities ahead."

Best High-Yield Savings Accounts Of 2024

Best 5% interest savings accounts of 2024.

The new investment round will help to scale up production to meet demand for the recently launched Candela P-12, the world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry. The P-12 is the first fast and long-range electric ferry on the market. Its efficient hydrofoil technology cuts lifetime emissions by 97.5% compared to diesel vessels, while simultaneously allowing operators to save up to 50% in operating costs. Since it generates minimal wake, the P-12 has been granted exemptions from speed limits, as for example on its maiden route in Stockholm, where it from July will cut travel times in half compared to road transport and legacy diesel vessels.

And it’s pretty obvious Hasselskog and company are on the right track. According to some projections the market for electric vessels is expected to be worth $14.2 Billion USD in 2030.

“We’ve spent years developing the technological maturity, and now we’re fit for scaling to commercial vessels. As in any industry, the fastest-scaling company will dominate the market,” says Hasselskog.

The Candela P-8 and P-12 hardly make a ripple as they fly over the water on computer-controlled ... [+] hydrofoils

Other backers in the round include longtime investors EQT Ventures , Ocean Zero LLC , and Kan Dela AB. The new investment brings total funding since Candela’s inception to over $75 million.

“EQT Ventures has steadfastly backed Candela's vision to accelerate the shift towards fossil fuel-free lakes and oceans since 2021. The launch of Candela's P-12 vessels signifies a watershed moment in sustainable transport", says Lars Jörnow, Partner at EQT Ventures.

The only question is: when will we see a P-12 ferry here in the US?

Weeping, weak and soaked, dozens of Rohingya refugees rescued after night on hull of capsized boat

MEULABOH, Indonesia (AP) — An Indonesian search and rescue ship has located a capsized wooden boat that had been carrying dozens of Rohingya Muslim refugees, and began pulling survivors who had been standing on its hull to safety. An AP photographer aboard the rescue ship said Thursday that 10 people had been taken aboard local fishing boats and another 59 were being saved by the Indonesian craft. Men, women and children, weak and soaked from the night’s rain, wept as the rescue operation got underway and people were taken aboard a rubber dinghy to the rescue boat.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four U.S. Army boats, loaded with tons of equipment and steel pier segments, left Virginia on Tuesday, heading to Gaza as part of the U.S. effort to expand the delivery of food and other supplies to starving Palestinians as Israel’s war against Hamas drags on.

The ships pulled out of docks at Joint Base Langley-Eustis and headed down the James River toward the Atlantic Ocean for what could be a month-long voyage to the Mediterranean Sea. There, at a yet-to-be-announced location along the Gaza shore, they will build and begin to operate a floating dock to receive the aid.

Since Hamas militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, Israel’s military has battered the territory, killing more than 30,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, and creating a humanitarian catastrophe . The U.N. says virtually all of Gaza’s 2.3 million people are struggling to find food. But getting humanitarian aid to the area has been difficult, due to the ongoing hostilities and struggles to coordinate with the Israeli military, which has blocked routes and slowed deliveries due to inspections.

The latest Pentagon plan calls for the U.S. military to build what is called a modular causeway system. Off shore, the Army will build a large floating platform where ships can unload large containers of aid. Then the aid will be transferred by the Army to a motorized string of steel causeway sections that have been pushed to the shore.

FILE - Residents displaced from a surge of violent attacks squat on blankets and in hastily made tents in the village of Masteri in west Darfur, Sudan, on July 30, 2020. Paramilitary forces and their allied militias fighting to take power in Sudan carried out widespread ethnic killings and rapes while taking control of much of western Darfur that may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to a new report to the U.N. Security Council, obtained Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, by The Associated Press. (Mustafa Younes via AP, File)

That pier is expected to be as much as 1,800 feet (550 meters) long, with two lanes, and the Pentagon has said it could accommodate the delivery of more than 2 million meals a day for Gaza residents. Officials have not said who will be unloading the containers and taking the aid ashore. President Joe Biden has said there will be no U.S. troops on the ground in Gaza.

On Tuesday, as family members and senior Army commanders watched, about 70 soldiers with the 7th Transportation Brigade (Expeditionary) pulled away from the docks in four U.S. Army vessels: the USAV Wilson Wharf, USAV Matamoros and USAV Monterrey, all Army landing crafts, and the larger USAV SP4 James A. Loux, a logistics support watercraft.

The brigade’s commander, Army Col. Sam Miller, said about 500 of his soldiers will participate in the mission. All together, Pentagon officials have said about 1,000 U.S. troops will be involved.

Calling it a complicated mission, Miller said the transit will take about a month, but it will depend on weather and any possible high seas. The actual construction, he said, will take about a week, but that also could be hampered by weather. Then it will take additional time to get the delivery process coordinated with those providing the aid and the system up and running. Defense officials have said it will take about two months to get the deliveries started.

The Army’s vessels and maritime capabilities are unique and not as well known as the Navy’s. The last time the 7th Transportation Brigade did a similar mission to construct a large pier was in Haiti in 2010. But it has participated in a number of major military exercises.

“The soldiers here are energized, they’re motivated, they’re excited,” Miller said, adding that the new humanitarian mission “gives them purpose and meaning” and highlights the Army’s watercraft. He noted that just 36 hours after Biden ordered the operation, the first Army vessel — the USAV General Frank S. Besson logistics ship — left Joint Base Langley-Eustis on Saturday.

Miller said a larger Maritime Sealift Command ship will also be leaving Virginia in the coming days, and will be carrying some of the bigger equipment and more of the steel pier segments.
