HERE COMES THE SUN

HERE COMES THE SUN is no stranger to making a big impression. She has been standing tall as head of the Amels fleet since her original delivery in January 2017. So when this newly refitted, now 89-metre Amels Full Custom rolled out of the shed unveiling her stunning new colour scheme and extended length, she cemented an even bigger, bolder and better legacy. This is a yacht to enjoy the best of ocean life on a grand and timeless scale.

Captain testimonial

“For a refit of this scale, the challenge comes from keeping your eye on the end result from a year out. It’s such a long time to work across. Keeping everyone moving towards it, everyone happy and just towards that final goal is a real challenge. The quantity of work that’s been covered is immense. So to achieve it in a year is a real credit to Amels.”

This is the award-winning Here Comes the Sun , the biggest yacht ever built by the Dutch yard Amels , and widely acknowledged as the pride and joy of New Zealand billionaire and passionate superyacht collector Graeme Hart.

The 292-foot Amels superyacht 'Here Comes the Sun' recently had a refit that stretched the hull by 20 feet, creating a new persona.

The yacht hit the headlines when it was delivered in 2017 and showcased at that year’s Miami International Boat Show. With its head-turning exterior design by Britain’s Tim Heywood and luxurious interior by fellow Brit Andrew Winch, it was the undisputed star of the show.

The original owner was reportedly Russian drilling industry tycoon Alexander Dzhaparidze, known for naming his superyachts after Beatles tunes. Before Here Comes the Sun , he owned the Amels-built Imagine before moving on to another Heywood/Winch-designed Amels, the 197-foot Come Together.

After being snapped up by the new owner in late 2019, Here Comes the Sun went back to the Damen Yachting/Amels sheds in Vlissingen in southwest Holland for what would turn out to be a near-total makeover.

The 292-foot Amels superyacht 'Here Comes the Sun' recently had a refit that stretched the hull by 20 feet, creating a new persona.

Dutch naval architects Azure Yacht Design were called in to mastermind slicing open the hull and adding the 20-foot extension. They also stretched the sundeck to create that second helipad—there’s also a touch-and-go pad on the foredeck—big enough to land a Bell 429 or Airbus H145.

The refit also saw the swimming pool on the main deck—once again the key word here— stretched to 23 feet, while two new bridge-deck VIP suites were added, each with 39-foot-long private balconies.

Saving one of the biggest jobs until last, the entire yacht was sanded, re-faired and re-painted, switching out the original, rather milquetoast, beige-yellow hull color to a classy navy blue with stark white topsides.

“It was a huge scope of work. To pull it off in just over a year was a real credit to Amels,” said Colin Boyle, the vessel’s captain since 2019, who helped project-manage the refit during the 16-month stay in the yard.

Damen Yachting sales manager Michael Coens added: “Many of the same craftsmen and women who were meticulously involved in the original build, worked on her during the refit, remolding and reshaping her into the new masterpiece she is.”

The refit was rewarded with the “Best Rebuilt Yacht” trophy at the 2022 World Superyacht Awards.

Accommodations-wise, within the 292-foot length, sprawling 47-foot beam, and 2,955 gross tonnage, the yacht can accommodate 20 guests in 10 cabins, tended to by a crew of 27.

Without doubt, one of the standout features is the truly massive, full-deck owner’s suite. It comes with a master bedroom boasting forward views through 180-degree wraparound glass, a private lounge with a balcony, office, his-and-hers bathrooms and spacious dressing room.

For relaxation, the owner can kick back in a huge private salon with comfy sofas, dining area, bar, and pool table. Towards the stern, there’s the full-beam owner’s sun deck with sofas, lounges and a dining table for ten. Steps away is a tiered movie theater.

Naturally, there’s no shortage of water toys. The main tender is a sleek, custom-built 34-foot limo built by Germany’s Yachtwerft Meyer and painted in matching navy and white. There’s also a 30-foot RIB and 23-foot Super Air Nautique wakesurf boat. Plus, a small armada of Sea-Doos and seabobs.

The vessel is listed jointly with brokers Fraser and Burgess.

HERE COMES THE SUN is for sale.

Published 13 April 2023

HERE COMES THE SUN is an award-winning, as-new Northern European yacht packed with every possible apex superyacht feature her 20 guests could desire, yet under the 3,000GT threshold. As such she represents an extremely rare opportunity.

Her extension means she now has a 7m (23ft) pool on the main deck aft and a beach club open on three sides

Already the largest Amels ever delivered, with exteriors by Tim Heywood and Winch Design interiors, she was rebuilt at the Amels yard in 2020-21 with a 6m (19.7ft) extension. She emerged to universal acclaim as an 89m (291.9ft) yacht with a full repaint and a host of enhancements, winning Best Rebuilt Yacht at the World Superyacht Awards 2022.

The bridge deck VIP suites have their own balconies

There are two new bridge deck VIP suites with 12m-long (39.4ft) balconies. She has a new 7x4m (23x13.1ft) counter-current pool on the main deck aft, flush with the deck to preserve the views, with the bulwarks lowered and handrails added for the same reason.

The sun deck was extended to create a helipad and there is a touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck

The sun deck was extended aft for a helipad for a Bell 429 or H145, and she also has a foredeck touch-and-go helipad.

The huge beach club has a sit-up wet bar, lounge seating, along with two terraces and a swim platform for sea-level sun lounging

Her restyled beach club measures 15x8m (49.2x26.3ft) and has fold-down sea terraces either side and an extended swim platform with hydraulic bathing steps aft. There is a sit-up wet bar and lounge and cocktail seating throughout the space.

As well as a plunge pool and sauna, the wellness centre has a steam room, massage room and beauty parlour

Forward of the beach club is a wellness centre with sauna, steam room, plunge pool, shower and dayhead to starboard and a massage room and beauty salon to port.

The glass-and-steel elevator serves all guest decks, lower to sun decks

Other features include a glass elevator serving lower to sun decks, and there is step-free access from the lower deck lobby to the beach club.

The bedroom suite on the owner's deck has wraparound views and access to the sidedecks

A private owner’s deck has a bedroom forward with wraparound views and access to walkaround sidedecks and the foredeck.

The owner's lounge and study both have private balconies

There are his-and-hers bathrooms and dressing rooms and both the lounge and study have access to balconies. The saloon also has a bar and a dining room and access to the aft terrace.

The forward sun deck has a raised jacuzzi encircled by sunpads and gym equipment inside and out

Up on the sun deck there is a raised jacuzzi flanked by sunpads and beneath the hardtop there is a sit-up wet bar, dayhead and a good selection of gym equipment.

The main deck has a dedicated tiered cinema

The main deck is home to the yacht’s dedicated cinema and seven of the yacht’s guest suites, four of which can combine to create two VIP sites. All of the aft deck spaces on main to bridge decks have glass windbreak panels for guest comfort.

The central feature of the main deck aft is the 7x4m (23x13.1ft) counter-current pool

Twin 3,000hp Caterpillar diesel engines give her a top speed of 17.5 knots, she cruises at 13.5 knots and has a remarkable range of 10,000nm at her economical speed. Quantum zero speed stabilisers ensure comfort on arrival.

Tenders and toys stow behind shell doors midships on the lower deck

The lower deck garage, with shell doors either side, is home to two custom Yachtwerft Meyer tenders, a 10.5m (34.5ft) limo and a 9.2m (30.2ft) D-Rib, and a 7m (23ft) Super Air Nautique G23. There’s also a selection of watertoys including SeaDoos, SeaBobs and an inflatable marina and waterslide.

The dining table overlooks the main deck aft and the main saloon has huge picture windows

We are very excited to bring to market a feature-packed, sub-3,000GT yacht of such exceptional Northern European provenance. Asking USD 195,000,000, she is lying in the Western Mediterranean where inspection is very much encouraged to appreciate the opportunity she represents. 89m Amels Superyacht HERE COMES THE SUN Completes Refit

By George Bains

After a year spent back in the Amels and Damen shipyard in the Netherlands, Amels superyacht Here Comes The Sun has completed her large-scale rebuild. The launch is a significant milestone for the largest Amels yacht built to date, and she has extended her length from 83 to 89 metres during the project.

Delivered in 2017, Here Comes The Sun was already an iconic superyacht before she returned to the Netherlands in 2020 under new ownership for an extensive refit. The Tim Heywood-designed superyacht has undergone a full respray with colour change, as well as significant design modifications.

The Sun Deck aft has been extended and now offers a helicopter landing area, while the Bridge Deck Aft has also been extended to allow for 2 VIP suites with exterior balconies. The 6-metre extension to the Main Deck Aft also provides a larger beach club, spa facilities and a large 7-metre swimming pool.

“Welcoming any of the fleet back to the yard is always done with pride but with Here Comes The Sun, it runs even deeper,” says Michel Coens, Damen Yachting Sales Manager. “She represents the first step back towards full custom and bigger projects. Any of the same craftsmen and women who were meticulously involved in the original build have been working on her during this refit, remoulding and reshaping her into the new masterpiece she is set to become.

“Her launch is a very proud moment. Her additional length and brand new colour are stunning and we look forward to the final stages of the refit now coming together for delivery to her Owner later this summer.”

89m Here Comes The Sun epitomises Dutch excellence in yacht building, and is one to look out for this summer as she returns to the waters.

"Welcoming any of the fleet back to the yard is always done with pride but with Here Comes The Sun, it runs even deeper." Michel Coens, Damen Yachting Sales Manager

First glimpse: Amels superyacht Here Comes The Sun completes 16-month refit

The 89 metre Amels flagship superyacht Here Comes The Sun has embarked on a global cruising itinerary after completing an extensive 16-month refit at Damen Yachting.

Here Comes The Sun was spotted in London after departing the Vlissingen City shipyard for the yacht’s public display.

The yacht, which now measures 89 metres, was relaunched in August after undergoing a major rebuild and six-metre extension at Damen Yachting following a change of ownership in 2020 .

The list of design modifications undertaken included a full respray and hull colour change and six-metre aft extension which allowed the inclusion of a helipad to the sun deck aft.

The bridge deck aft was also extended to include additional accommodation for two VIP suites with exterior balconies. The six-metre extension to the main deck aft meanwhile allowed for a larger beach club, bigger spa and seven-metre swimming pool.

Azure Yacht Design , which worked on Here Comes The Sun’s original naval architecture, returned to oversee the extension of the yacht from 83 to 89 metres.

Damen Yachting project manager Sander Peeters, who oversaw the refit, described the launch of the redelivery of Here Comes The Sun as “a very emotional moment”.

"The refit of Here Comes The Sun was a very large scale and complex project. We are all very proud to have delivered on time and to such a high quality, made possible by the teamwork and collaboration between our own teams, our co-makers and the owner’s team and crew," he added.
