'Below Deck': Everything We Know About The Crew Members' Salaries

Not only do they each get a salary, but they also make at least $1,000 per charter just in tips.

The  crew from the Below Deck franchise make a decent salary from working on yachts. Unlike a weeklong voyage on a vessel, the crew on the show will typically serve the same charter guests for two to three days. Even though the Below Deck crews work shorter charters, the amount of work they put in still amounts to the same work as a weeklong charter. 6 How Much The Stews Make

Working on a yacht might be a lot of work, but sometimes the pay is worth it, especially for the stewardesses. According to Crewfinders , a chief stewardess such as Kate Chastain or Hannah Ferrier earns anywhere between $62,000 and $75,000 per charter season on a megayacht similar to the ones on the Below Deck franchises. These vessels are quite large and are usually around the 150-foot. A second or third stewardess makes a little bit less, bringing in about $50,000 per season. However, on a vessel such as the Parsafil III from Below Deck Sailing Yacht , the chief stew, and regular stews make around $30,000 to $52,000 per season. One's pay really depends on the size of the ship.

5 How Much The Deckhands Make

What might be shocking to most is the chief stew actually makes quite a lot more than the bosun, or first mate, and the deckhands. On a typical 150 meter yacht, a bosun makes around $48,000 to $52,000 per season, which is more than $10,000 less than what a chief stew makes. than what the bosun makes. The exterior crew makes the least amount of money even though they a lot of heavy lifting outside the boat. However, the deck crew tends to get quite a bit of off time, while the interior crew is always on the clock.

4 What The Yacht Chefs Make

While the stews and the decks make a decent amount of money every season, the chefs do much better. A culinary-trained chef can make anywhere between $70,000 to $95,000 per person on a megayacht, such as the ones on the Bravo series. However, if a regular chef comes on board who is not culinary trained, they make around $52,000 to $72,000 per charter season. A majority of the chef are culinary-trained such as Chef Rachel Hargrove and Chef Adrian Martin from Below Deck . It is likely on a megayacht such as Valor, The Wellington, or even Parsafill III, that every chef they bring on board is more than just your average cook.

3 What The Captain Makes

Out of everyone in the crew, the captain is the one banking the most money per charter season. On a megayacht, such as the vessels shown on Below Deck , captains tend to make anywhere between $120,000 to $180,000 per season. In fact, on bigger yachts that are more than 190 meters, captains can make more than $200,000 per season. However, with

seniority comes a rise in income, so it is likely someone such as Captain Lee, Captain Sandy, and Captain Glenn, make closer to the $200,00 range as they have all been captains for several decades.

2 Their Tips

On top of their salaries, yachties also get a hefty tip at the end of every charter . As viewers have seen on several Below Deck shows, the crew make a total of around $130,000 to 150,000 in tips per season. However, that money is split between the entire crew. On average, the crew members who are a part of the series make about $1,000 to $1,800 in tips per charter. Each season on the show lasts for approximately six weeks and will have around nine charters total. Therefore the crew makes around $9,000 to $16,200 on tips alone. Even though viewers don't see it, the captains, and the other crew on board who are not a part of the show, also get a piece of the tip. Captain Lee confirmed this on a DocWalk thread in 2014 .

1 What Bravo Pays Them

The crew that appears on Below Deck also gets a small fee from the Bravo network. While the exact number is unknown, they make at least a few thousand dollars per episode. Leah McSweeney from The Real Housewives of New York City reportedly only made $3,000 per episode during her first season on the show. However, she was bumped to $10,000 for her second season after she received rave reviews from the audience. It is likely someone like Kate Chastain and Hannah Ferrier, made anywhere between $3,000 to $5,000 per episode as they had been on their respective series since the beginning.

How Much Does The Below Deck Cast Get Paid?

"Below Deck" just sailed through the Caribbean for its 10th season on the biggest and most luxurious motor yacht in the show's history. "Set on the luscious island of St. Lucia, with crystal-clear waters and dramatically tapered mountains, the Pitons are sure to excite even the most discerning guests," Bravo teased about the latest installment (via NBC Universal ).

Ever since the show first aired in July 2013, it's been a runaway success for the network. This is no surprise, given all the drama, feuds, fights, bed-hopping, scandalous relationship drama , and picture-perfect locations each season. The show has proven such a hit that it's spawned a franchise with sister shows such as "Below Deck Mediterranean" and "Below Deck Sailing Yacht." Still, despite the ever-growing number of spin-offs, in a survey, fans told Nicki Swift that they thought the original was still the best "Below Deck" franchise .

Over the seasons, cast and crew have come and gone, but Captain Lee Rosbach has held steady at the helm, steering through the turquoise, glittering seas throughout every season. And who can blame him? Working on an opulent and extravagant yacht while it sails through some of the most stunning vistas in the world is a job that many would do for free. However, the reality show members get all of the pleasure and some of the pay. But, how much does the "Below Deck" cast really make?

The Below Deck cast either make bank or earn 'peanuts'

Some say reality TV doesn't pay, and that's true in certain cases. "Exposing your personal life to national scrutiny isn't always that lucrative," MoneyWise reports. "In fact, some cast members earn absolutely nothing for their TV appearances." They note how much "The Bachelor" contestants make for laying their souls bare — which isn't that much in the grand scheme of things.

However, that's not the case for "Below Deck." Depending on the crew's longevity and rank, they can earn serious bank, or just "peanuts." Salaries are strictly secret, but US Weekly has quotes about their moolah from various cast members. "While we do get paid better than a normal yachtie, of course, we are still not getting paid what people like the Housewives are making," First Officer Eddie Lucas said to the New York Post . He claimed he was paid "peanuts" in comparison, which was annoying "because [they're just] going out to dinner and fighting." As opposed to sailing and fighting, presumably.

Jessica Moore, Ciara Duggan, and Tiffany Copeland weighed in on the show's Instagram fan page , and they all seconded Lucas' claims. "Would be nice to get residuals when reruns air, at least!" Copeland wrote. However, Captain Sandy Yawn from "Below Deck Mediterranean" begs to differ. She told US Weekly it's all down to "negotiation" skills, and hers must be stellar, as The Things estimates, she's worth a staggering $400,000. But Captain Lee Rosbach and Chef Ben Robinson are apparently worth even more than that.

Captain Lee Rosbach and Chef Ben Robinson are the highest-paid of the "Below Deck" cast. It's not surprising Rosbach is up there, given he's been on the show since its debut. According to The Things, he's worth a tidy $800,000, but Robinson leaves the skipper in the shade. Despite being part of the franchise for only six years, The Tab reports the chef is worth $2.5 million. And he's not shy about showing off the trappings of his wealth. Robinson regularly posts on Instagram to ensure everybody knows about his rock star lifestyle. "My 40th ... After a long day, I have finally adjusted," he captioned a video of himself in a Versace dressing gown, sipping on a glass of fine wine, and puffing a cigar. It's hard out here for a former reality TV chef!

As for Rosbach, it seems that, sadly, his earning spree may have come to an abrupt end after the captain made a shocking exit during Season 10 of "Below Deck." People reports that Rosbach's worsening health issues forced him to jump ship mid-sail. He'd been struggling with nerve pain before taking the helm but thought it was just temporary. Not so, unfortunately. "My injury, it's getting worse. The left side of my body, I don't feel anything," he admitted during an on-camera confessional, sharing that he was unable to "do a god d**** thing about it, and it's hard."

The Below Deck crew gets the best of both worlds when they are filming since they get paid by the boat they are working on for their actual jobs and by Bravo for filming. At times, the network has lowballed certain reality shows, with the TV personalities often arguing for a raise. Each nautical franchise features familiar faces and new ones as seasons change.

The High Seas series originally premiered back in 2013 with an inside view of how the other half vacationed. It isn’t always smooth sailing for the crew of each ship. However, soaking up the fresh air while sailing the high seas of a tropical local doesn’t sound all that bad, minus the bratty charter guests, of course. Die-hard fans can’t help but want to know how much a deckhand makes compared to a chief stew. We are about to find out.

Below Deck Salary

According to Refinery29 , on a boat like My Seanna, which is an 185-foot yacht that sleeps 12 charter guests and 12 crew, the crew can walk away with quite a chunk of cash. For simply performing what is required of them, a second and third junior stew who either works on turning over the laundry or table scaping would make $5,000 per month. A chief stew’s salary could be as high as $6,000 per month since the face of the interior.

The chef, arguably the most temperamental on the ship, yet most needed to feed the hangry guests, makes about $7,000-$10,000 a month. Still, all is dependent on their particular training and experience. While the deckhands usually are pocketing $4,500 per month, the bosun earns $5,000. We would have thought the deck crew would have earned a bit more since they were out in the elements and in more danger.

Oh Captain, Our Captain, How Much for a Captain?

Bravo has yet to disclose just how much Lee Rosbach , Sandy Yawn , Glenn Shephard , or any other of the captains make, but we can make an educated guess.

Crew Finder International predicts that a captain with Captain Lee’s expertise could make around $150-$210,000 a year. Not too shabby! Captain Sandy also would be in the same earning bracket. If any of the captains make appearances or publish books, as the Colorado native has, that adds to their income.

How Much Does Each Crew Member Get per Episode

While the exact number is unknown, some fans of the nautical series believe that Bravo could be paying each crew member a few thousand per episode. While that is pennies compared to the Real Housewives stars, with some earning one million dollars per season , it still is a nice drop in the bucket for a yachtie who is itching to save their earnings.

Even though viewers see most of the crew members sporting designer items on their nights out, it is important to note that the charter season doesn’t last long. Most of the time they have to be in a money-saving mindset.

Don’t Forget About the Tips

More importantly, each crew also earns tips after each charter, which fans love to see at the tip meeting. For years, viewers have watched crew members of Below Deck Mediterranean , Below Deck, and Below Deck Sailing Yacht earn anywhere from $18,000 to $25,000 a charter in tips.

Depending on how many ways the tip needs to be split, that’s potentially another $1,500 USD in their back pockets at least. If the crew is working a six-week charter season, that can add up to at least another $15,000 to their annual income.

The Perks of Yachting

Along with the large salary, there are actually some pretty great perks to working on a superyacht. Crew members get to earn a tax-free income, live and work abroad, travel to exotic locations, and have no monthly bills, such as electricity and water. The yacht often provides work-related transport for the crew, food and drink, uniforms, and other living expenses.

The job aboard on the motor boat also comes with generous vacation allowances and great bonuses, which are at least 10% of the charter fee. So, if you’re looking for a new job or career change, becoming a yachtie might be the way to go.

Below Deck follows the lives of the crew members who work and live aboard the luxury yachts during the charter season. They’re often known as “yachties.” They can make lots of money if they do a good job. As fans know, they earn most of their money from their combined tips.

A lot of factors can play into those tips. The charter guests may be impressed with the food and entertainment. Or, they may love the service they received during the charter. Of course, these same factors can ruin their chances if they have a green crew or if the food service isn’t as good as expected.

How much do the crew members earn?

According to a new report, the average deckhand can make from $60,000 to $66,000 per year. On Below Deck Season 9, Jake Folger, Rayna Lindsay, and Wes O’Dell are the current deckhands on the show. Though they have a green crew, they’re already raking in the money.

When it comes to the interior team, the second and third stews also earn $60,000 to $66,000 per year. In the current season, Jessica Albert is the third stew. Now, they’re down one stew. Jessica abruptly quit her job. She just wasn’t interested in the job anymore. She also couldn’t stop thinking about her sick grandparents.

There is no boatswain in this cast. Yet, the position does exist and has been featured in previous seasons. This is Eddie Lucas’ first charter season working as a first officer. In Season 8, he worked as a boatswain. The average boatswain earns $66,000 to $72,000 per year, while the first officer earns $90,000 to $95,000 per year.

More Below Deck salaries revealed

Apparently, the chief stew makes a lot of money. Maybe it’s because they interact with the guests the most. Heather Chase is the chief stew on Season 9. The average chief stew earns $72,000 to $84,000 per year. Heather made her big debut this season, but she hasn’t been well-received by fans. She’s also made controversy for saying the n-word .

The yacht chef also earns $72,000 to $84,000 per year. Chef Rachel Hargrove returned to the series after a challenging Season 8. She quit in the middle of the season and came back the following day. This season has been her redemption season and it’s worked well in her favor.

Keep in mind that the crew members earn huge tips. The average is $15,000 per person , on top of their salary. Not bad for six weeks of work. But it’s also an emotionally and physically demanding job.

The show follows superyachts that have been chartered to travel in beautiful locales. Below Deck looks at how the guests behave on board and how the crew members get along. How much does the crew from Below Deck make?

Those of us who merely watch from our homes and smartphones may daydream about the luxury of cruising the Mediterranean or other warm locales with an attentive crew. Even being part of the crew of the hit show may sound appealing, but does the talent get paid fairly for their hard efforts at keeping these superyachts going and fulfilling customer demands?

Below Deck premiered in 2013 and has led to several spin-offs in different locations. Below Deck: Mediterranean was the first to follow the original reality show, and in 2020, Below Deck: Sailing Yacht hit television sets. In 2021, spin-offs Below Deck Adventure and Below Deck Down Under were created.

The Below Deck franchise relies on “yachties,” or crew members, who keep things running. Specific roles on board include captain, first officer, deckhands, bosun, chief engineers, chef, and steward/stewardesses.

According to ShowStarNews , cast members must sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) about their salary. Some sources say that cast and crew who complete a full season receive $5,000.

All cast members divvy up tips from guests who charter the yachts, which Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain claimed was about $5,000 for a week-long charter and $2,000–$2,500 for a three-day charter.

Some former Below Deck crew members have publicly criticized the network for paying the crew and cast less than similar shows like those in the Real Housewives franchise. Eddie Lucas, a former cast member, said they were paid more than “normal yachties” but not near what the Real Housewives stars earned.

“There is somebody monetizing off of the show, but it’s definitely not us. Below Deck — regardless of it being the most popular show on Bravo — we are the lowest-paid cast members,” Lucas told the New York Post.

Other previous cast and crew members of the Below Deck franchise commented after Lucas's remarks on pay discrepancy. Jessica More, of the Below Deck: Mediterranean , said, "Yep 👏 I see all facts in his statements." Ciara Duggan, from Season 1 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht, remarked that Lucas was "not wrong" about cast pay. Another former cast member, Tiffany Copeland, commented that she wished they received residuals when reruns are aired.

Crew and cast members with more celebrity power can also likely use that to negotiate higher salaries for their work on the show.

ShowStarNews estimates salaries on board by role:

Deckhand: $24,500

First Officer: $28,250

Bosun: $25,250

Chief Engineer: $32,000

First-time chief stewardess: $24,000–$26,000

However, in non-reality-TV situations, crew members on a yacht are paid relative to the size of the vessel as well as to their responsibilities on the vessel. Crew Finders, a yachting recruitment company, estimates salaries of $192,000–$228,000 for a Captain on a vessel between about 160 and 190 feet long.

A Below Deck chef in their first season on the show might earn about $29,000 for one season. However, as Crew Finders noted, a chef on a chartered yacht of the typical size for Below Deck, a chef might earn close to six figures ($96,000–$108,000).

It’s one of the top-rated reality TV series on Bravo, so we were admittedly shocked to see how comparatively small the Below Deck cast salaries were to their network compatriots. They’ve also claimed they were subjected to racist comments during filming.

She also explained what a typical day looks like on the boat in the lead-up to and during filming. “We are actually on the boat and we have a 24-hours-a-day shoot schedule . We split the team up in 12-hour shifts, morning and night shifts, so we have access to the cast at all times. When you’re not on shift, you take the water taxi back to the production crew’s hotel nearby, where we exchange notes with those on the other shift, to make sure nothing falls through the cracks.” It’s hard work, no doubt, which is why we were shocked to hear about the Below Deck cast salaries and how little they get paid.

In another shocking claim, Gabriela Barragán, who appeared in the same season of the spinoff, alleged a producer—nicknamed “M&M” for master manipulator—encouraged her to drink alcohol despite her history of substance abuse. Bravo told Business Insider that they “ take allegations of misconduct on our shows seriously and review all claims that are brought to our attention.”

The network added that it has enhanced its production policies, which include “stricter guidelines on alcohol consumption and direction on when to intervene to maintain safety of cast and crew, increased psychological support, enhanced workplace trainings, and a requirement to provide cast and crew with a direct line to NBCUniversal to raise concerns.”

According to the New York Times, there’s very little room for privacy, too . “They’re here to share every aspect of their lives,” said Noah Samton, a senior vice president of current production for Bravo. “Those are the rules. The only place you have privacy on the boat is the bathroom.” Even bathroom use has limits; cast members are told at the beginning of a season that if two or more people enter one at the same time, a camera should be expected to follow. “Not just because of sex,” he continued. “It could be they’re having a conversation — they hate so-and-so. We need to know that.”

The chef banks between $70,000 and $95,00, while the captain is guaranteed $100,000 or more. A bosun like Ashton Pienaar can make up to $50,000 per charter season. Last but not least are the deckhands, who can pocket $40,000 and upward. All salaries are based on experience, so Captain Lee Rosbach and chief stew Kate Chastain are likely at the top of the salary pool.

It is important to remember these salaries are based on the months-long charter season. The Below Deck season is only six weeks long because it is condensed for television. Cast members would receive a fraction of those salaries since the season is so short.

Bravo does not reveal if or how much it pays the cast members to appear on Below Deck. One Reddit user claims to have inside information that the network pays a small sum to each person.

Tip breakdown

Kate recently spilled the breakdown of how yacht tipping works in the real world. The chief stew admitted that on a typical seven-day charter, each person on the boat should receive $5,000 for a job well done.

Below Deck charters are two days, so an excellent tip is $17,000 to $20,000, which breaks down to around $1,800 per person.

On the Season 7 finale of Below Deck, Captain Lee stated the group earned as a whole $150,000 in tips for the six-week charter season. Broken down, that means everyone walked away with $14,000 in tip money.

Total Below Deck salary

The total salary for Below Deck cast members is a little challenging to figure out for two reasons. One, it is unclear their base salary since the charter season is short. Two, the amount paid by Bravo is not revealed.

What can be taken away from all the available information is the cast makes good money for their time on the reality TV show. The tips alone make it worth a person’s while.

Seriously the current season’s overall tip breaks down to over $2,000 per week. Add in yacht salary and Bravo stipend and cast members can make bank for a few weeks of drama on a boat.

When the Below Deck crew enjoys dinner and drinks onshore, do they have to pay for their meals and beverages? Find out the truth right now.

The reality show  Below Deck   follows a luxury superyacht crew as they make clients' dreams come true on three or four-day charters. The guests are always over the top, sometimes disorderly, and occasionally outrageous, but the real drama happens between the crew members. There is an interior crew known as the Stewards and an exterior crew called Deckhands. These two groups of crew members rarely see each other while on the job, but they have plenty of interesting interactions behind the scenes.

Often, the crew hangs out on the boat between charters and enjoys the amenities usually reserved for  the Below Deck guests . There have been flings in the hot tub, and singing on the deck, and lots and lots of drinking. The crew plays just as hard as they work, and they work very hard. When they go out, they enjoy lavish meals and beautiful seaside restaurants (and drinks galore), but who pays for it?

That was the question du jour on Reddit recently, and a couple of cast members even showed up to help dole out some answers. Caroline Bedol from Below Deck season 6 came to the rescue with all of the tea. Caroline is known for being a cast member who quit between charters because she felt mistreated by Kate Chastain (Chief Stew) and Josiah Carter (2nd Stew). Caroline gave her two days' notice and then refused to work, so  Kate Chastain took it upon herself to harass Caroline off the boat. She even set up a loudspeaker with annoying music to try to smoke Caroline out. Caroline eventually left the ship, but not before recounting her harrowing tale to Captain Lee. Despite not making it through the season, Caroline learned the secrets of production and came to Reddit  to share. Check out just a little bit of the tension Caroline went through on season 6 below :

Caroline visited the thread titled  Who Pays Them To Go Out To Dinner? to share the truth. Under the verified username "socrazysocaroline," Caroline clarified, "Yeah, there was one night when we pretended (for cameras) that Captain Lee covered our tab. I promise production covers a meal and a drink per person."  This confirms that production pays for their meal and one drink only and that certain elements are played up for TV. Caroline went on to say, "Production covers dinner and one drink. After that, the crew's on their own." Caroline then went on to make it clear that the production insisted that they go out because a Redditor asked if they were allowed to stay on the boat. Caroline said, "It's not allowed. I whined to Captain Lee about going out once, and he said, "it's part of the deal."

That is why the crew is always open to eating dinner together after a charter or between charters. Even if crew members are in the middle of fights or don't particularly like each other, they have to go out. Plus, who would say no to a free meal? Bravo is making a TV show at the end of the day, and Below Deck needs content to fill its time. Without these dinners, there would be less drama, and with less drama comes less viewership, allegedly. That is just one reason why Below Deck continues to be  one of the most drama-filled and entertaining shows on Bravo.

Below Deck yacht names revealed - and how much it costs to rent the celebrity superyachts

Since 2013, Below Deck has been captivating TV audiences across the globe by offering a voyeuristic peek into life on board multi-million dollar luxury charter yachts . Taking readers behind the scenes, YachtCharterFleet identifies the yachts featured on the show, as well as those which have appeared on the celebrated spin-off series Below Deck: Mediterranean , Below Deck: Sailing , Below Deck: Down Under and the latest iteration, Below Deck: Adventure .

Bravo’s hit reality TV series Below Deck chronicles the lives of crew members who work and reside aboard a luxury yacht during the charter season.

Each season features a different crew configuration, and the episodes show how the crew members interact and deal with personal issues alongside their working lives. The seasons are filmed over six weeks, with every episode featuring a new group of charter guests.

Getting even closer to these Below Deck superstars, we take a look at each of the stand-out features of every yacht that has appeared on the show.

Below Deck (US)

Many crew members are recurring on the show;  the longest-standing is Captain Lee Rosbach, who been on the show since 2013. A fan favourite, he has been at the helm of every yacht on Below Deck and seen a number of different crew formations.

The latest Below Deck season 10 is rumoured to be his final swan song, although his legacy on the show is such that whoever replaces him will have very big shoes to fill.

Among the crew members, Chief Stewardess Kate Chastain was an integral member of the team from season two to season seven. Alongside her, Chef Ben Robinson was a permanent fixture of the crew from season one to season four, before stepping out for season five.

Throughout the course of the show, the yachts have played an important role. 

Hiring a Below Deck yacht will cost from €140,000 per week - and that price doesn't include expenses such as fuel. While some of the yachts were given an alias over the course of filming, their real names can now be revealed below; as well as the exact cost to rent them. 

The largest yacht in the show's history, the 10th and 11th seasons of Below Deck  are set around the Caribbean islands of St Lucia  and Grenada onboard the luxurious 60m (197ft) superyacht ST DAVID . Delivered in 2008 by Italian shipyard Benetti, the yacht has an impressive sleek, supercar-inspired profile that instantly turns heads. 

Onboard highlights include her well-appointed sundeck with sunloungers and sunpads where guests can kick back and relax, a spa pool and her al fresco cinema screen set up for unforgettable movie nights.

One of the yacht's most distinctive features is her sophisticated spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. The yacht is very versatile for a variety of charter party configurations, with room for 12 guests across six elegantly appointed cabins. 

STARSHIP (aka MY SEANNA)

Making an appearance on seasons 9, 8 and 6 of Below Deck , the majestic motor yacht STARSHIP (known on the show as MY SEANNA) is a yacht charter favorite.

The yacht has traveled far and wide for the show cruising to the jaw-droppingly beautiful St Kitts and Nevis in season 9, the sun-kissed Caribbean in season 8 and the  South Pacific  islands of  Tahiti in season 6.

Known for being among one of the most opulent yachts on the charter market due to her ornate interiors and glossy fittings that have been brushed in 22-carat gold, it is safe to say that this yacht is one of the most opulently styled and extensively equipped yachts on the water. Refitted in 2021, the Delta Marine yacht can accommodate 12 guests across 6 cabins and is extremely versatile for a variety of yacht charter party configurations. 

VALOR (aka BG)

Appearing three times on the hit show, the 47m (153ft) charter yacht BG (known on the show as VALOR) featured in seasons 7, 5 and 4 of Below Deck , taking charter guests to a variety of sun-kissed and beautiful locations. The yacht's real name is BG, and she was built in 1990 by the world's most revered shipbuilder Feadship . Since then, she has undergone many interiors refreshes to keep her in tip-top condition. 

The yacht traveled around Thailand in Season 7  where the crew and viewers were treated to a truly memorable South East Asian experience. From the iconic Phi Phi Islands to the beautiful beaches of Ko Yao Yai, there were plenty of fascinating landmarks to see on the way. Season 5 took viewers to the tranquil cruising grounds of  Saint Martin whilst season 4 saw M/Y BG in the glistening waters of the  Virgin Islands .

Accomodating 12 guests across 6 cabins, she is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

EROS (aka STAY SALTY)

Season 3 of Below Deck was announced after a hugely successful second-season finale, which was the highest-rated episode of the series. The new season saw the crew head to the Bahamas onboard  superyacht STAY SALTY  known on the show as EROS. 

She is equipped with an array of luxurious amenities including an eight-person sundeck Jacuzzi, barbecue and yacht-wide sound system. She also boasts timeless interior styling with intricate wood panelling and a neutral colour palette which helps create an inviting atmosphere for those on board.

The yacht was sold in November 2013 - just before filming for season 3 began - for an asking price of $17.9 million.

OHANA (aka STAR DIAMOND)

Premiering in August 2014, season 2 of Below Deck returned with 13 episodes documenting life on board the slightly smaller superyacht STAR DIAMOND in the British Virgin Islands . Among many other features, the yacht is equipped with a large sundeck, outdoor bar and luxury accommodation for 10 guests.

After filming the series, M/Y STAR DIAMOND was sold for an asking price of $10.9 million and is now on the charter market with a charter rate of $160,000/week. Extensively refit in 2022, the work on the superyacht has included a complete interior refresh, the yacht now features light, modern styling - an engine rebuild and a cabin conversion.

HONOR (aka BARENTS )

The first season of Below Deck premiered on 1 July 2013 after being announced in April 2012. Chartering around the Caribbean , the starring superyacht was named HONOR for the show but chartered under the name CUOR DI LEONE which translates to ‘Lion Heart’ in Italian. She now goes by the name BARENTS . 

Built by Italian shipyard Benetti in 1999 and refit in 2021, the famous vessel has undergone a complete makeover, bringing her up to modern standards. She can accommodate up to 12 charter guests and features luxury amenities for guests to enjoy including state-of-the-art TVs and a sundeck Jacuzzi.

Following the show, superyacht BARENTS was sold for around $15 million and her new owner commissioned a major refit. A great deal of money was spent on updating her interior with a classic-modern style of design as well as on brand-new exterior furniture and entertainment systems.

Below Deck: Mediterranean

Following on from the success of Below Deck , the spin-off  Below Deck: Mediterranean premiered in May 2016. While the original series takes place during the winter charter season when the Caribbean is at its peak, Below Deck: Mediterranean is filmed during the summer charter season.

Season one of Below Deck: Mediterranean saw Captain Mark Howard at the helm, but the baton was passed to Captain Sandy Yawn from two onwards. Chief Stewardess Hannah Ferrier was another permanent fixture on the show from season one to five, before leaving the show in season six.

As its name suggests, the show is based in the Mediterranean , the world’s most popular yachting hub from May to October. Despite the change in location, the same format and accompanying on-water antics from the crew and guests alike can be expected. Below, all the names of the superyachts which have appeared on the show, and the cost to rent them.

Season 8 of Below Deck: Mediterranean was aired in September 2023 and brought back yet more antics that included some tense franchise firsts. Set in the Ligurian Riviera, the hit Bravo series returns to Italy for the first time since season 3. The series followed the crew from mid-August until mid-September of 2022 onboard the 180-feet superyacht MUSTIQUE .

Holding up to 12 guests across 6 classically decorated cabins, this yacht is the epitome of elegance with its glossy mahogany paneling and cream upholstery. She is replete with water toys, including kayaks, a seabob, waterskis, and Zapata Flyboards, and has expansive deck areas– offering plenty of scope for both crew and guest antics which make Below Deck: Mediterranean so entertaining.

Season 7 of Below Deck: Mediterranean returned to the screens in July 2022 and brought back more drama and wealthy clientele, creating endless entertainment for viewers at home. Set in Malta , a destination never seen before on the show, the series followed the crew over an eight-week charter season onboard the 49m (160ft) superyacht HOME .

Accommodating up to 12 guests across 6 beautifully decorated staterooms, this yacht is described as a home away from home, the perfect platform for guests to soak up the sunshine, kick back and relax. From her convivial sundeck setup replete with a Jacuzzi and glowing cocktail bar to her panoramic sky lounge and state-of-the-art water toys, this yacht certainly had the wow factor that was required for Below Deck: Mediterranean .

LADY MICHELLE (renamed NEXT CHAPTER)

Season 6 of Below Deck: Mediterranean premiered in June 2021 and saw a new vessel,  motor yacht LADY MICHELLE , since re-named NEXT CHAPTER, take center stage. It also saw the return of Captain Sandy and Bosun Malia, plus a brand new crew. 

A floating paradise that turns heads on the water, this heavenly Benetti vessel comfortably accommodates 12 guests across 6 sumptuous staterooms, with additional capacity for up to 12 crew members. She also boasts an open-air cinema, a split-level owner's suite and an impressive array of water toys.

This season takes the crew to one of the most idyllic cruising grounds in the East Mediterranean : Croatia . Abounding with serene golden beaches, crystalline waters and gorgeous coves to explore, it's one of the most popular yacht charter destinations.

THE WELLINGTON (aka THE WELLESLEY)

Season 5 of Below Deck: Mediterranean premiered in the summer of 2020. The show was shot on board the motor yacht THE WELLESLEY , and the superyacht was given the alias THE WELLINGTON over the course of filming. 

The yacht has an elegant 1920's theme, with a chic club lounge complete with a bespoke humidor. She features plenty of marble accents and ample alfresco deck areas, as well as a jacuzzi with innovative spill pool features.

The yachties set course for Spain for this season, cruising around the azure waters of the Balearic Islands . The homeport was Port Adriano on the island of Mallorca .

Featuring in both Season 4 and Season 2 of Below Deck: Mediterranean ,  superyacht SIROCCO  is a yacht charter sensation. An elegant and sophisticated Heesen -built motor yacht, she features plenty of alfresco sunning areas and an 8-person jacuzzi pool; the perfect spot for the charter guests to unwind after a long day exploring.

Season 4 took the crew to one of the most iconic destinations in the Mediterranean ; the South of France . Between the luxury yachting hub of Monaco to the beautiful beaches in St Tropez , this season promises lashings of glitz and glamour. During Season 2 of Below Deck: Mediterranean , M/Y SIROCCO cruised the picturesque waters of  Croatia .

TALISMAN MAITON

Premiering in 2018, season 3 of  Below Deck: Mediterranean saw familiar and new faces head to the sublime cruising grounds of Italy. This time, the crew treated their discerning guests to a world of luxury on board the 54m/178ft motor yacht TALISMAN MAITON .

Built in 2006 and refit to an exacting standard in 2016, the yacht boasts a range of exciting features that make her particularly appropriate for the waters of the Amalfi Coast . Indeed, her entertainment options range from a stunning selection of water toys to a sundeck Jacuzzi and a refreshingly modern interior.

IONIAN PRINCESS

Premiering on 3 May 2016, the very first season of Below Deck: Mediterranean , a spin-off of the increasingly popular franchise, took to viewers' screens. This time the ‘yachties’ took care of their guests onboard the motor yacht IONIAN PRINCESS  in the Mediterranean  destination of Greece . 

The starring yacht IONIAN PRINCESS was delivered from Christensen in 2005 and was later refit in 2016 and again in 2021. Truly opulent, she bears interiors that are sleekly finished with a range of warmly toned woods and plenty of comfortable furnishings. She also boasts one of the largest sundecks for a yacht of her size.

Below Deck: Mediterranean Season 1 yacht IONIAN PRINCESS is not currently available for private yacht charter vacations.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

This is the first time the Below Deck franchise branched away from gleaming motor yachts, with the various weather issues that sailing yachts have to contend with adding even more drama and excitement.

The design of luxury sailing yachts  also creates far more confined crew areas than we are used to seeing on the original Below Deck . In general, sailing yachts tend to feature smaller galleys, compact stew stations and cramped crew quarters which are in closer proximity to the guests’ living areas, putting crew under increased pressure to deliver their signature silver service.

In addition, deck crew are placed in a far more demanding role, with sailing yachts requiring increased accuracy and precision to safely maneuver and plenty of deck duties taking place in the midst of guest areas.

PARSIFAL III

An iconic and suitable yacht for the much-loved series Below Deck: Sailing , the 54m (177ft) sailing yacht PARSIFAL III has blessed our screens for all four series of the hit maritime show.

Season 1 saw the sailing yacht cruising around the beautiful islands of Greece , an  East Mediterranean destination that is peppered with an incredible variety of islands. Season 2 was set around the glistening waters of Croatia and in  Season 3 of Below Deck Sailing , M/Y PARSIFAL III came back to where she traditionally charters in the beautiful Balearic island of Menorca . For the latest Below Deck: Sailing Yacht season she ventured around the glittering coastline of Sardinia .

The yacht can comfortably charter up to 12 guests across 5 luxurious cabins with a layout comprising a master suite, two double cabins and two twin cabins.

Below Deck: Down Under

Venturing to the mesmerizing Whitsunday islands in Australia , the much-beloved maritime show released another spin-off of the hit show in April 2022, Below Deck: Down Under . Recorded on Queensland's shores, viewers can see for themselves the impeccable Australian islands and all their beauty as the superyachts, their crew and charter guests travel to some of the most sought-after destinations in the world.  

NORTHERN SUN

Below Deck: Down Under  returns to our screens for its second outing, this time on board the 51m (167ft) explorer yacht NORTHERN SUN , with the coastal paradise of Cairns in Australia’s northern Queensland providing the glittering backdrop.

Headed up once more by the handsome Captain Jason Chambers, he is joined by returning chief stewardess, Aesha Scott, along with a brand new crew, including Chef Tzarina Mace-Ralph, Bosun Luke Jones and stews Laura Bileskaine and Margot Sisson.

Promising another round of crew antics and high drama, the bulk of the action takes place on board the classic explorer yacht, primed for adventure and boasting a wealth of luxurious amenities and an eye-catching exterior, charter guests will be in for a treat.

KERI LEE III (AKA THALASSA)

The perfect yacht for season 1 of Below Deck: Down Under , the 55m (181ft) yacht KERI LEE is the prime candidate for anyone looking for a taste of the superyacht lifestyle. Described as being like Downton Abbey on a boat, the yacht is home to an expansive beauty salon, massage room, gym, jacuzzi and movie theater, so there is definitely enough to keep all charter guests entertained.

In the first season of Below Deck: Down Under , this yacht traveled to some pretty spectacular destinations from the Great Barrier Reef , including the Whitsunday's , Hook Island, Block Reef and Henning Island, giving charter guests the opportunity to witness the outstanding beauty and clear waters of the Pacific .

Below Deck: Adventure

Airing its inaugral season at the end of 2022, Below Deck: Adventure brings more drama than ever before as the show takes viewers beyond the deck and off the yacht as thrill-seeking charter guests embark on a range of extreme and unforgettable experiences around the Norwegian Fjords. Some of the activities include paragliding, exploring unique caves and taking extreme helicopter rides, Below Deck: Adventure provides endless entertainment as well as giving viewers a glimpse of the astonishingly beautiful landscapes in and around  Norway . 

In  Below Deck: Adventure season 1, Capt. Kerry Titheradge leads the crew with Jessica Condy as Chef and Faye Clarke as Chief Stew.

Yacht life definitely pays.

Week after week on Below Deck , viewers see the crew clean up with giant wads of cash left behind by the charter guests as a "tip" for their work -- and chief stewardess Kate Chastain tells ET, it's not faked for reality TV.

"On a yacht of that size, [a good tip] would be $5,000 a person, for seven days of work," she reveals. "Five grand a crew member, usually. Our charters are a little bit shorter, just so we can make the show, [but] everything else is exactly the same. So, it's prorated. We usually get around $2,500, $2,000. Anything less than $1,000 would be depressing, which sounds crazy, doesn't it?"

Below Deck charters typically last two or three days, but Kate says the crew puts in the equivalent of five days of work to jam-pack the experience with a week's worth of fun.

"We're working not just eight-hour shifts, it's like, we're working pretty much around the clock," she notes. "All the days start to blur together. And during the tip meeting, Captain Lee [Rosbach], will say what we got and I'm always like, 'Is that good? I don’t know anymore… $3,000, are we happy with this?'"

To put this in perspective, those tips are on top of a fee for charting the yachts. Kate previously revealed to ET that it costs about $150,000 a week to take over the ships.

The tips come on top of a regular salary, which differs based on job. A chief stew, reportedly , earns between $62,000 and $75,000 per charter season on a Below Deck -sized yacht (most of the vessels on the show are in the 150-foot range). Second and third stews would make about $50,000 a season, a chef between $70,000 and $95,000, while a captain would earn $120,000 or more, a bosun about $52,000 and deckhands between $40,000 to $52,000.

Kate says there is one part of the tip process seen on the show that might just be for TV -- how the tip is delivered. On the show, the crew stands in line to send off the guests, with the primary charter guest handing over an envelope of cash to Captain Lee. Kate notes that the lineup is standard, but the envelope handoff isn’t.

"There's always a lineup, just 'cause it's polite," she says. "Like, even in Downton Abbey , they all line up. So, I think it's a tradition that’s been around for hundreds of years, but sometimes, I think, instead of traveling with so much cash, they wire the money."

"So, it's not as dramatic," she continues. "But I've had charters where we anchored in the British Virgin Islands, the guests had left, we're eating leftover lobster, drinking leftover champagne, counting our stacks of cash. I felt pretty special at that moment."

It’s just been announced that season 11 of Below Deck is due to set sail on February 5, 2024, and St David is the yacht of choice again — the biggest, most luxurious and most expensive ever on Below Deck. S eason 10’s and now 11’s St David costs $325,000 to charter for a week, excluding expenses (or $23,646,000 to purchase!).

Guests usually tip the crew anywhere between 10 to 15 percent of the charter rate. So, expect to add a maximum cost of $48,750 to the weekly charter rate of St David.

The running costs of a yacht will add to your initial investment with operating costs estimated to be 20 percent or more of the initial value. St David would incur its owner a cost of at least $4,729,000 annually to run.

This luxury super yacht is 196 feet hosting 12 guests in its six guest cabins, who can expect to enjoy first-class service from a total of 14 crew members. It features include an indoor jacuzzi, a luxury spa, an outdoor deck jacuzzi, a gym and a dance floor, alongside a Rolls Royce Limo Tender for shore trips and a multitude of recreational water toys and activities. Guests can go fishing and scuba diving or take to the waters skiing, wakeboarding, or riding jet skis.

Coming in as the second most expensive superyacht on Below Deck is My Seanna, now Starship, featured on the show’s sixth, eighth and ninth seasons.

This 185-foot luxury yacht boasts 22-carat gold brushed fittings. A finalist in The World Superyacht Awards 2012, it features two jacuzzies, a beach club, a helipad, a movie theatre and a sundeck sauna and gym. Accents of real gold and royal blue are set throughout the yacht’s interior.

The yacht hosts 12 guests in six cabins, with 11 crew members to tend to their every need. For a week on Starship, it would cost $275,000, excluding expenses, or $22,900,000 to purchase. Expect to pay approximately £41,250 in crew tips or incur around $4,580,000 in annual running costs as the owner.

The least expensive yacht to charter (a relative bargain!) is season five’s Valor, now BG, costing $146,500 per week. BG hosts 12 guests in its six cabins with a dedicated crew of 10 members. Fans will remember how season 10’s shocking discovery of concealed unregistered drugs on board resulted in the immediate dismissal of a crew member.

BG will set you back $16,000,000 to buy and is the second smallest yacht to feature on the show, measuring 153.87 feet.

Interestingly, Ohana (real name Star Diamond) is the least expensive yacht to buy, but not the smallest nor cheapest to charter, costing $160,000 per week. The yacht sleeps 10 guests in 5 staterooms, and has a crew of eight, which might explain the higher charter rate, despite its lower sale price.

"Daisy has a lot to live up to when she returns to Parsifal III after a successful last two seasons and can always be counted on to give you a piece of her mind and let her hair down to have a good time."

"Having captained smaller boats and run the deck on several busy super yachts, Gary’s 13 years of experience is apparent in the way he runs his deck team," according to his BravoTV.com bio. "On one hand, he rules his department with an iron fist but on the other hand, he is never the type to leave a party first. He brims with mischievous charm but his flirtation gets him in hot water on and off deck."

Colin MacRae, Engineer

"Longtime sailor Colin MacRae worked as a Chief Engineer on super yachts for 15 years before joining Parsifal III for his third season. With a big heart and an impish smile, Colin is more than happy to lend a hand anywhere that he might be needed. However, when Colin’s kindness gets mistaken for weakness, fireworks fly," according to his BravoTV.com bio.

Captain Glenn Opens Up on His Relationship with “the Most Amazing Woman I Know”

The new crew members include Chef Ileisha Dell , stews Lucy Edmunds and Mads Herrera , and deckhands Chase Lemacks and Alex Propson .

The press release notes that all the crew is trying to find their footing: "Captain Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior department, much to Daisy's dismay. In the galley, Chef Ilesha's cooking impresses the guests, but her indecisiveness and co-dependency lead to time-management issues between courses, which causes her to self-destruct. On deck, strong personalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near mutiny, as Gary clashes with his new overconfident deckhand, Chase."

"With over 17 years of culinary experience, Chef Ileisha has been living her dream as a yacht chef since 2014, merging her passion of cooking, traveling the world and working and living on the water. Originally from a small beach town on the east coast of Australia, she worked her way into some of Sydney’s most prestigious kitchens as a pastry chef. Chef Ileisha has taken many leaps in her career, working as a prep chef for Matt Moran for his cooking show, working as a private chef for one of Sydney’s most famous households and accompanying another family on their yachts across the Mediterranean for two years ," per Ileisha's BravoTV.com bio. " To stay in tune with her creativity, Chef Ileisha also loves photography, film, interior design, yoga and scouting for vintage glassware."

Lucy Edmunds, Stew

"Originally from Wales, Lucy shines with a bubbly personality and enthusiasm that makes her the perfect fit for the interior team," Lucy's BravoTV.com bio notes. "After feeling stuck at university during the pandemic, Lucy, who has a wide breadth of experience in the hospitality world, set sail and joined the yachting industry. Before getting her start in the Mediterranean, she worked at high-end restaurants and became a club VIP manager at only 19 years old. When she’s not chartering across the globe, Lucy enjoys a more laid-back lifestyle of playing sports and watching rugby."

Mads Herrera, Stew

According to Mads' BravoTVcom bio, "Born and raised in South Florida, Mads spent much of her time in the water and on yachts, so it was only natural she ended up in the maritime industry. With two years of experience, Mads has worked on day charters and boat deliveries and is eager for the new challenges of working on a charter yacht. A true adventurer, Mads lives life in the fast line traveling the world, riding dirt bikes, and sky diving."

Chase Lemacks, Deckhand

"A southern gentleman from South Carolina, Chase knows how to turn on the charm for the demanding guests this season. Chase originally joined the world of yachting with the dream of one day sailing around the world running charters on a sailboat of his own," per Chase's BravoTV.com bio. "Having solely worked on large motor yachts since 2019, it was an exciting challenge and welcome change of pace to come on board a sailing vessel. When he’s not on deck, he loves to get his hands dirty backpacking, hunting, and fixing up old homes."

Alex Propson, Deckhand

"Originally from Wisconsin, Alex got his jumpstart in yachting while networking in Los Angeles. He moved to South Florida and kept up his career as a deckhand since achieving his captain’s license," according to Alex's BravoTV.com bio. "The career change was influenced by the pandemic after spending eight years in sales. You can always find Alex staying active whether practicing yoga, playing basketball or diving in top destinations around the world."

Why, yes there is! "Two overlapping love triangles further complicate the dynamics-on board, and a shocking hookup between department heads threatens to sever Colin, Daisy, and Gary’s friendship forever," adds the press release.

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“Lee has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

A Real Housewife is making waves on Below Deck .

E! News can exclusively debut the Bravo series' season 11 midseason trailer and, as the first look teases, the crew of the St. David might have met their toughest charter guest to date in The Real Housewives of New York City alum Jill Zarin .

"This is a buffet meal," Zarin tells the staff in the preview while complaining about the quality of her food. "It shouldn't be a three-hour meal. Make it better. Burger's cold!"

Jill's arrival comes as the yachties are feeling the strain from an already stressful season filled with multiple shocking departures , plenty of crew drama between Chief Stew Fraser Olender and Stew Barbie Pascual and, of course, some boatmances.

As Captain Kerry Titheradge notes, "We're half way through the season we're getting tired. This is the opportunity just to smash it. We've all had some ups and downs this season and it wouldn't be yachting if we didn't. We don't do this because it's easy. Easy s--t is on the shore."

Below Deck Season 11: Meet the Cast

As for the friction between Fraser and Barbie, their working dynamic doesn't seem to improve as the Stew notes, "Everybody here knows that there's s--t going on between me and Fraser."

Plus, Fraser bitterly adds, "I'd rather have no sleep than have to look at your face every morning."

But while there doesn't seem to be much hope for Barbie and Fraser, her flirtation with Deckhand Kyle Stillie is only heating up.

"I really like Kyle," she admits. "It's just like a fun, flirtatious...whatever."

And it seems not every crewmember will make it to the end of the charter season.

"I've done everything I can for you to succeed," Capt. Kerry warns one mystery yachtie. "The issue is you are not thriving. If you're not all encompassing, adding value to the rest of the crew, I can't have you here."

What we know about the container ship that crashed into the Baltimore bridge

A container ship crashed into a major bridge in Baltimore early Tuesday, causing its collapse into the Patapsco River.

A livestream showed vehicles traveling on the Francis Scott Key Bridge just moments before the impact at 1:28 a.m. ET.

Baltimore first responders called the situation a "developing mass casualty event" and a "dire emergency," per The Associated Press.

James Wallace, chief of the Baltimore Fire Department, said in a press conference that two people had been recovered from the water.

One was uninjured, but the other was transported to a local trauma center in a "very serious condition."

Wallace said up to 20 people were thought to have fallen into the river and some six people were still missing.

Richard Worley, Baltimore's police chief, said there was "no indication" the collision was purposeful or an act of terrorism.

Wes Moore, the governor of Maryland, declared a state of emergency around 6 a.m. ET. He said his office was in close communication with Pete Buttigieg, the transportation secretary.

"We are working with an interagency team to quickly deploy federal resources from the Biden Administration," Moore added.

Understanding why the bridge collapsed could have implications for safety, in both the shipping and civil engineering sectors.

The container ship is the Singapore-flagged Dali, which is about 984 feet long, and 157 feet wide, per a listing on VesselFinder.

An unclassified Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency report said that the ship "lost propulsion" as it was leaving port, ABC News reported.

The crew notified officials that they had lost control and warned of a possible collision, the report said, per the outlet.

The Dali's owner is listed as Grace Ocean, a Singapore-based firm, and its manager is listed as Synergy Marine, which is also headquartered in Singapore.

Shipping news outlet TradeWinds reported that Grace Ocean confirmed the Dali was involved in the collapse, but is still determining what caused the crash.

Staff for Grace Ocean declined to comment on the collision when contacted by Business Insider.

"All crew members, including the two pilots have been accounted for and there are no reports of any injuries. There has also been no pollution," Synergy Marine said in a statement.

The company did not respond to a request for further comment from BI.

'Horrified'

Maersk chartered the Dali, with a schedule for the ship on its website.

"We are horrified by what has happened in Baltimore, and our thoughts are with all of those affected," the Danish shipping company said in a statement.

Maersk added: "We are closely following the investigations conducted by authorities and Synergy, and we will do our utmost to keep our customers informed."

Per ship tracking data, the Dali left Baltimore on its way to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, at around 1 a.m., about half an hour before the crash.

The Port of Baltimore is thought to be the largest in the US for roll-on/roll-off ships carrying trucks and trailers.

Barbara Rossi, associate professor of engineering science at the University of Oxford, told BI the force of the impact on one of the bridge's supporting structures "must have been immense" to lead to the collapse.

Dr Salvatore Mercogliano, a shipping analyst and maritime historian at Campbell University, told BI: "It appears Dali left the channel while outbound. She would have been under the control of the ship's master with a Chesapeake Bay pilot onboard to advise the master.

"The deviation out of the channel is probably due to a mechanical issue as the ship had just departed the port, but you cannot rule out human error as that was the cause of the Ever Forward in 2022 just outside of Baltimore."

He was referring to the incident two years ago when the container ship became grounded for a month in Chesapeake Bay after loading up cargo at the Port of Baltimore.

The US Coast Guard found the incident was caused by pilot error, cellphone use, and "inadequate bridge resource management."

Claudia Norrgren, from the maritime research firm Veson Nautical, told BI: "The industry bodies who are here to protect against incidents like this, such as the vessel's flag state, classification society, and regulatory bodies, will step in and conduct a formal investigation into the incident. Until then, it'll be very hard for anyone to truly know what happened on board."

This may not have been the first time the Dali hit a structure.

In 2016, maritime blogs such as Shipwreck Log and ship-tracking site VesselFinder posted videos of what appears to be the stern of the same, blue-hulled container vessel scraping against a quay in Antwerp.

A representative for the Port of Antwerp told BI the Dali did collide with a quay there eight years ago but couldn't "give any information about the cause of the accident."

The Dali is listed as being built in 2015 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea.
