Mimico Cruising Club boasts a traditional name reflecting the cruising and racing interests of its members. The non-stop social activities along with a fabulous mix of power and sail illustrates why the Club has grown to over 500 members with docking for 300+ boats. Come on in and take a look around, you'll be sure to like what you see! Mimico Cruising Club is Toronto's premier, private yacht club. The Club caters to individuals who enjoy being on or near the water. Both social members and mariners are welcome. Mimico Cruising Club has a traditional name reflecting the racing and cruising interests of its sailing and boating members. We are named in the tradition of the famous British "Royal Cruising Club" founded in 1880, and we support similar traditions. Situated within the scenic Humber Bay Park adjacent to the Martin Goodman Trail, our post-and-beam clubhouse design reflects the character of a park setting and was officially opened in 1984, by John B. Aird, the Lieutenant-Governor of Ontario. We have grown from 250 members in 1979 to over 500, with docking facilities for 306 boats up to 50ft. (Length Overall) and dry sailing with a crane, for dinghies and keel boats to 3000 lbs. MCC has weekly Club races and our members also participate in regional competitions and regattas throughout the season, including; the Lake Ontario 300, the LORC Series and the AHMEN Series. Club cruises are arranged throughout the season for both power and sail. These often attract as many as 50 boats for a weekend cruise. In addition, events organised by our powerboat members include treasure hunts and an annual poker run. We also have a wide range of shore based events during the Summer and Winter seasons. Mimico Cruising Club's stated mission is to provide a quality boating and social environment, within a member-involved Club for the enjoyment of its members, their families and guests through a shared vision of first-class facilities, programs and sound management.

Sailors at Mimico Cruising Club (MCC) have long been passionate about racing. Located at the western end of Humber Bay, a short sail from downtown Toronto, this yacht club is home to 300 boats, about half of which are sailboats. And many of those belong to keen racers.

Club races take place on Wednesday evenings starting in early May with the Spring Series and finishing in early October with the Frostbite Series. Boats compete in Flying Sail and small, medium, or large White Sail fleets. The season concludes with an awards night. Two hundred people attended the 2023 celebration which also featured some of the club’s sponsors like Goslings Rum and North Sails.

The size of the fleet has grown rapidly in the last few years. A typical race night now has 50 or more boats on the start line making it the largest, most active midweek keelboat racing series on Lake Ontario.

This club welcomes anyone who wants to race, including boats and members from other clubs. The diversity of boats is extensive and includes everything from stripped-out racers to older cruisers. Members and guests who do not own a boat or don’t want to race their own boat are encouraged to sign up in the Crew Bank. Skippers are often looking for crew and some are happy to coach crew who are new to racing.

MCC’s racing program has gained a reputation for high quality competition, particularly in Flying Sails. Members regularly compete in, and sometimes win, the big, long distance, regional races such as the Lake Ontario 300/600 Challenge and the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac.

Another feature of MCC’s racing program is the diversity of winners. On any given night, numerous different boats are represented on the podium when the results are announced at the buffet dinner and social event that follows each race.

The race committee is critical to the success of any race and MCC’s committee is known for its expertise, seamless operations, and impartiality. Hugh Beaton, regional manager, North Sails recently commented to Mimico Cruising Club’s Fleet Captain that MCC has ‘the best on-water and off-the-water race experience on the lake’.

In addition to weekly club races, MCC co-hosts with the Kingston Yacht Club, the Race to Kingston that takes place in August each year. This 140 nautical mile race had approximately 60 boats participating in 2023.

The strength of MCC’s program has traditionally been its Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF). The club is now expanding its focus to include one-design racing from dinghies through to keelboats. Last year they installed a new ramp for dinghies and this year they are introducing a boat share program utilizing a fleet of recently acquired 420s. In the fall of 2024, the club will replace its existing crane with a larger, fixed crane to serve the club’s growing haulout needs and expand its capacity for the keelboat dry sail fleet. This new crane will handle boats weighing up to 6,000 pounds.

If you’re into racing or think you would like to be, join the competition at MCC. Come see what the hype is all about! For more information CLICK HERE .

As a general rule of thumb, if you like the left side of the first beat you should start on the left side of the line. If you like the right side of the course, start on the right of the line. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s amazing how many boats do not follow this basic principle.

Don’t cleat the sheet. The wind and wave conditions are different all the time (even when it seems like they are static), so if you want to keep going fast you have to adjust your mainsail trim continually. Try never to put the mainsheet in its cleat.

Facilities and Capacity

For the all-important ceremony, the wedding party can take their seats on the lawn space that looks out across the marina. For an open-air setting, everyone can be bathed in sunlight as the couple joins together in matrimony. Tall trees and neatly planted shrubbery provide touches of natural beauty for the milestone as rings are exchanged and vows are recited. A floral arch marks the spot where to-be-weds stand as the pierside scenery provides the backdrop. Alternatively, this area can be covered over for occasions when shelter is required. Indeed, a fully indoor setting may be tastefully arranged for those who are dreaming of an “I do” moment in front of a grand fireplace. Rapturous applause and heartfelt congratulatory words are sure to follow the moment when the newlyweds are officially announced. Afterward, the couple can drift away to enjoy some photos. Owing to Mimico Cruising Club’s location, magical mementos can be preserved against elegant yachts, the city skyline, and other picturesque sites.

For the reception, as few as 40 or as many as approximately 110 guests can be accommodated as everyone settles in for a memorable occasion. The Main Room offers space for dining, drinking, and dancing. The decor is defined by wooden flooring, charming exposed beams, and minimalist touches that create a laid-back ambience. Natural light adds a bright and elegant atmosphere to the setting as the revelries continue long into the night.

Services Offered

A variety of wedding packages offers a range of convenient inclusions for couples and their guests to make use of. Perhaps the most comprehensive bundle available includes a cocktail reception bar, hors d’oeuvres, and an after-dinner bar. Event enhancements are available such as chair covers and audio equipment. St Petersburg FL Golf Courses (All Public & Private)

Part of the Tampa Bay area and known as the Sunshine City, St. Petersburg is a sun-seeker’s paradise with its numerous beaches, golf courses, and other cultural attractions.

The city of Saint Petersburg, which lies south of Clearwater and Largo, has 6 golf courses within its boundaries.

There are 3 municipal public courses and 3 private courses making it affordable for all budgets.

St. Pete, FL, part of Pinellas County , has year-round sunshine and is a perfect destination for golfing.

So, the next time you find yourself in the area, whether for fun or work, try out some of these courses, hit some shots, and hone your golf skills.

Public Golf Courses In St. Petersburg, FL

Mangrove Bay Golf Course-st. petersburg florida

Mangrove Bay Golf Course – Municipal Public Course

This is an 18-hole Par 72 Championship course built in 1977 and designed by Bill Amick with a slope rating of 120 and a course rating of 71.5.

This course finds itself in the ‘top municipal courses list’ pretty regularly and is a well-maintained course for a municipal one, and sits literally in the midst of a marshy mangrove from which it has derived its name.

The one attribute of this course is that no houses are lining the fairways which is an attribute mostly found in semi-private or private courses.

The course is known to be challenging yet easy too. It has wide fairways and big greens that roll true.  Measuring roughly 6700 yards from the back tees this is not a lengthy course either.

Some of the par-5s are short and can be reached in 2 strokes from the tees. Water comes into play on 7 of the 18 holes but poses a challenge only on 4.

The course also has good practice facilities with a driving range, large chipping, and pitching area as well as a putting green.

PGA instructors are available for golf lessons. A pro golf shop, as well as a snack bar, is also at hand.

Green fees are $27 for 18 holes for morning tee times that reduce to $17 for the twilight sessions.

Being a municipal course, locals are eligible for discount cards.

Cypress Links Golf Course – Municipal Par-3 Course

This is the par-3 sister course of Mangrove Bay and is situated at the entrance to the bigger course.

The second of the 3 municipal courses in St. Pete, this course is a 9-hole par-27 that measures only 1300 yards in length with the largest hole measuring only 187 yards, increasing your chances of hole-in-ones.

This is perfect for someone who is short of time and is looking for a quick round, as well as for seniors and juniors who are learning the chops of the game.

As this course is part of the Mangrove Bay Course, the characteristics of the bigger course pretty much carry into this one too.

Being a small course, the green fees here are quite affordable at $12 for 9 holes and $6 for replay.

Discount cards are available for locals.

Twin Brooks Golf Course – Par-3 Municipal

This is the third municipal course in St. Petersburg. This is not part of the above 2 courses and is a standalone par-3 course.

This is an older course built in 1957, a 9-hole par-27 that measures only 1067 yards.

An executive-style course for those who want to play a round in an hour or two max.

The facility, although small, has an 18-station driving range and 2 putting greens.

PGA instructor golf lessons are available as well a pro shop and snack bar are accessible in the facility.

Being a small course, the green fees here are affordable too, just like Cypress Links, at $12 per round and $6 for replay.

The discounts cards can be used in all the 3 muni courses.

Private Golf Courses In St. Petersburg, FL

St. Petersburg Country Club - Florida

St. Petersburg Country Club – Private

This private club boasts of a rich history where legends such as Ben Hogan and Sam Snead have left their indelible mark on the game.

This club was built in 1924 and designed by Herbert Strong. Known as the Lakewood Country Club originally, the club changed its name to the present one in 2000.

This golf course lies to the east of St. Pete Beach has a great layout with no parallel fairways. It’s set right next to a nature preserve, flanked by the beach and bay on either side, at the tip of the Saint Petersburg panhandle.

This course is an 18-hole par-72 with a slope of 137 and a course rating of 73 with the highlight of the course being 6 consecutive Par 4’s.

The fairways are wide and lined with water bodies and thickly wooded areas that provide a sense of calm and seclusion.

Measuring 6900 yards from the back tees, with 4 sets of tees and a breeze that is constantly changing in direction, this course makes for a nice balance between a challenging and fun and fair course to play at all skill levels.

A fully stocked golf pro shop, practice ranges, and golf lessons from professional instructors are all accessible inside the facility.

Single and Family golf memberships are available for those who wish to be a part of the club.

Vinoy Golf Course - st. petersburg florida

Vinoy Golf Course – Renaissance Vinoy Resort – Private

This 18-hole par-71 hotel/resort golf course was built in 1925 and was originally designed by Donald Ross. The course located on Snell Isle underwent a renovation by the famed Ron Garl and reopened in 1992.

The course sits in a beautiful setting drenched in the native Florida fauna and flora ambiance –

though, there are palm trees in this course with over a dozen varieties brought in from various parts of the world, totaling 900 in number.

The facility is a Certified Audobon Cooperative Sanctuary. Meaning, the facility has a bewildering array of wildlife. This, along with the natural beauty and the manicured setting makes it a truly exhilarating course to play.

Measuring 6626 yards from the tips, this course is not particularly a lengthy one – that drains your energy by the time you step onto the 18th tee.

The fairways are mostly generous. However, with plenty of water and 63 strategically placed bunkers, and with the constant gust from the bay, this can be a challenging course.

Driving range with pitching and chipping area and practice putting greens are available at the facility as well as a golf pro shop.

Golf lessons are available from PGA professionals.

The green fees are $86 for 18 holes for out-of-season play and $162 for in-season with cart. A 9-hole option is also available. Golf membership is available for non-guests of the resort.

Golf At Isla Del Sol-st.petersburg florida

Isla Del Sol Golf Yacht & Country Club – Community

Minutes away from the St. Petersburg beaches and located on an island, Golf at Isla Del Sol is an 18-hole par-71 community course opened in 1977 and designed by Mark Mahannah.

If you are a fan of island golf, then this might be a course for you. However, note that the fairways are lined by homes and condos and you may not be able to see much water though.

You get more of a city vibe playing this course as opposed to the other courses in this area.

Measuring a tad under 6400 yards, this is not a lengthy course by today’s standards, but would not beat you up and would be ideal for seniors and beginners.

Professional staff is available for golf lessons, and yearly golf membership plans are also available.
