Nord's helidecks

Nord is home to two helicopter landing pads allowing guests to come and go as they please in total privacy. The first can be found on the bridge deck aft with a retractable hangar that can concertina into the superstructure when not in use; a second larger helipad is positioned on the bow. 

Nord in the Indian Ocean

Nord has already racked up some serious mileage since her delivery in Feburary 2021. She departed Gibraltar in April and headed straight to the Caribbean to catch the last of the winter cruising season. After a brief stay back at the Lürssen shipyard she spent summer cruising the Mediterranean before heading down through the Suez Canal and into the Indian Ocean.

If her champagne-tinted hull wasn't enough to make this vessel stand out, its nameplate certainly makes sure people know Nord is in town. Its unusual flared bow starts to square off as it meets the foredeck, which allows for a nameplate to be emblazoned across the front (and it even lights up at night).

Nord on the move

Nord was pictured here on sea trials under her build name Project Opus. The North Sea is a rite of passage for superyachts leaving the Lürssen shipyard and Nord was no exception.

Designed by Italian design studio Nuvolari Lenard , Nord features a total of six decks, which can all be seen clearly here. Speaking about the superyacht, studio co-founder Dan Lenard previously described Nord as "a warship wearing a tuxedo". The yacht is specifically intended for long-range cruising and global exploration.

In some lights, Nord's distinct hull colour seems to turn to gold with turquoise LEDs illuminating her nameplates and accents of the superstructure.

Nord's aft name plate lights up as night falls, while bright lighting illuminates the decks. One of Nord's fleet of tenders, the largest of which measures 15 metres, can also be seen here moored to the stern of the yacht.

Motor Yacht

Nord is a custom motor yacht launched in 2020 by Lurssen Yachts, in Germany.

Lürssen has remained a family-run German shipyard since its inception in 1875 and is now in its fourth generation of private ownership. The company was founded by Friedrich Lürssen with a desire to create a leading shipyard in both quality and performance.

Nord measures 142.00 metres in length.

Nord has a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure.

It is not necessary to live, it is necessary to sail; This is the firm belief of Italian design company Nuvolari & Lenard. No stranger to high-profile yacht design, the studio has stamped its distinctive style on a number of the ocean’s biggest and brightest.

Nord also features naval architecture by Lurssen Yachts.

Yacht NORD – Elite $500M Superyacht

Owned by Russian billionaire businessman, yacht NORD is the tenth biggest yacht in the world.

The annual running costs are an incredible $40 Million per year due to her massive 142-meter length.

The interior of the NORD yacht was developed by Nuvolari Lenard, an Italian yacht designer who also worked on the exterior of the impressive vessel.

Twenty-four guests can be accommodated in twelve luxurious cabins, including a spacious owner’s suite. There is additional space below the deck for up to 40 crew members.

Although exact details of the interior of NORD remain private and unknown to the public, the yacht is said to have two elevators, a large gym, a sauna, a beauty salon, and a cinema.

Lenard and his design studio are known for their upscale and aesthetically pleasing layouts, which are usually kept in earth tones and natural colors.

The Italian designer also worked on Mordashov’s smaller yacht, the LADY M, where he designed both the interior and exterior.

NORD specifications

The NORD yacht has a total length of 142 meters (465.1 ft). Her beam is 19.5 meters (64 ft) long, and her draft measures 5.4 meters (17.9).

The massive yacht weighs 9,259 tons. Her four MTU engines allow her to reach top speeds of 25 knots, although her average cruising speed lies closer to 20 knots.

NORD exterior

The exterior of the NORD yacht was designed by Nuvolari Lenard and his experienced Italian design studio which is considered one of the most exclusive in the world.

The yacht is white with dark blue elements on the top decks, creating a streamlined effect and making the vessel appear even more elegant.

She has two separate helipads, one of which even has a collapsible helicopter hangar that can store smaller aircraft.

On the aft of the yacht, there is a sizeable swimming pool and beach club. NORD has a high-quality steel hull and impressive aluminum superstructure. 

The owner purchased NORD for a price of US $500 million in 2021. The yacht is estimated to incur running costs of US $40 to 50 million annually.

More details about the 142m (466’) superyacht NORD have been revealed as the hotly anticipated motor yacht was floated from the shed at Lurssen's facilities in Lemwerder.

Still officially known as Project Opus, the name NORD was exclusively revealed by YachtCharterFleet last month and has since been verified by yacht spotters.

This is the third outing for NORD and it revealed some more of the amazing features that have had her name on the lips of the industry since she was announced as Project Redwood in 2015.

She has already been on her first round of sea trials and according to social media reports, delivery is expected later this week. 

With a nod towards the automobile industry, NORD is also the first yacht to have her nameplate on the tip of her bow, reminiscent of the number plate on a car’s grill.

The huge deck spaces of the 9,250GT yacht are clearly visible, and one of her double helipad decks can be seen on the bow of the yacht, with the other on the bridge deck. Elsewhere, on the main deck, a large pool accompanied by what looks like a small Jacuzzi just above the beach club is noticeable.

An expansive upper deck provides plenty of seating and a dining area, with another Jacuzzi and large sunbathing area one further deck up.

Evident again is the striking profile of the Nuvolari Lenard designed yacht, with her unusual blunt bow and curved black lines on the aft and prominent wing stations. Spread over six decks, her imposing stature on the water is further accentuated by a multi-toned superstructure.

With a nod towards the automobile industry, NORD is also the first yacht to have her nameplate on the tip of her bow, reminiscent of the number plate on a car’s grill.

This is the third outing for NORD and it revealed some more of the amazing features that have had her name on the lips of the industry.

NORD has a host of unique features, not least the double helipads that include a built-in hangar space that slides into the superstructure when not in use. Her large sports and diving centre on the lower deck and the oversized swimming pool on the main deck are also sure to be hugely popular. Built to PYC standards, she can accommodate up to 36 guests in 20 cabins.

There has been a buzz of excitement around the build since she was first announced as Project Redwood in 2015. Her bare hull was spotted on the move for the first time back in October 2018, before she then became known as Project Opus in 2019. Her first sea trials were captured on camera last month , ahead of her scheduled delivery before the end of this year.

NORD will be the third Lurssen yacht to be delivered in 2020 after the 140m (459’) motor yacht SCHEHERAZADE and 87m (285’) motor yacht AVANTAGE , and she will also make her way into the Top 10 of the World’s 100 longest yachts.

It is not yet known whether M/Y NORD will become a luxury motor yacht for charter .

The 141.6-metre Nord was designed with one idea in mind: she must cause strong emotions in every observer, not only through her sheer size, but with the design itself. Responsible for her stunning exterior and interior design is the Italian design studio Nuvolari-Lenard, who have given Nord her striking appearance with a bow design never before seen on a yacht. The 2021 delivered yacht Nord has implemented an exhaust after treatment system, which consists of the combination of a silencer with a selective catalytic reduction in the same casing, which can achieve a cleaning rate up to 97 % of nitrogen and additional reduction of acoustic noise – a Lürssen development.

Design overview of my nord.

The mega-yachts of the mega-wealthy have always been inherently interesting. They may not be naval vessels, but they are at least tangentially relevant to a defense website. Their features show what is possible, if you are rich enough. Each design has its unique features, exquisite details and exotic toys. Nord is particularly noteworthy for the ‘toys’ in its spacious below-deck hangars.

The 142m ship was built by Lürssen of Bremen, Germany, and delivered in 2021. The exterior and interior design by highly regarded Italian duo Nuvolari Lenard. These designers are responsible for a whole host of outstanding designs, including mega-sailing yacht Black Pearl.

The main two guest tenders are quite large, and are customized Windy SR52 Blackbirds. Another tender appears to be a cross-beach amphibious vessel from Iguana Yachts. These are complemented by at least two smaller utility RIBs (rigid inflatable boats).

The usual yacht toys Jet skis and, I suspect, Seabob diver scooters are carried. There are some rumors that it has an ROV (remote operated vehicle) aboard for the guests to view the underwater world without getting wet.

Like an increasing number of mega yachts there are two helicopter landing decks. One is on the forward deck, and a second is in a more conventional location above and behind the bridge. Both allow helicopters with rotor diameters up to 17 meters (55ft) and 70 tonnes. This is very large and easily accommodates the owner's personal AW129 helicopter.

Both helipads allow the helicopter to be tied down and carried there, i.e. not just touch-and-go like on some yachts. The aft helideck also has a telescopic hangar for the private helicopter. Having two increases flexibility, allowing guests to join using their own or chartered helicopters even while the ships own helicopter is aboard.

The helicopters can be used for transport, as well as for sports like helicopter water skiing. Having a helicopter aboard also allows for the evacuation of sick or injured people if necessary.

The Luxury Yacht with a cold and elegant name "Nord" that came to Mallorca at the beginning of March is owned by Russian magnate Alexei Mordashov. The yacht is valued at over $ 500 million and has everything you can only imagine. On board this luxurious 142-meter long, 6-deck ship, up to 36 guests can be accommodated in 20 cabins and 42 crew members.

The most modern yacht in Lürssen «Nord», inaugurated at the end of February, visited Mallorca at the beginning of March, dropping anchor in Portals and then in Port Andratxy, and it left everyone amazed. And it's not for nothing ..

The Nord on board has everything: gym, elevator, swimming pool, cinema room, hangars for auxiliary boats, huge barbecue area, beach club, spa room, sauna, underwater lights and a beauty salon, large sports and fitness center. Lower deck diving, an oversized pool on the main deck, and a fleet of 14 custom boats including two modified Windy SR52 Blackbirds. He also carries a submarine for underwater explorations.

The annual maintenance of a yacht of this level according to some can range between 40 and 50 million dollars.
