Most of our vacation charters run on a weekly basis from Friday or Saturday (see price list for details), but other days can be arranged, particularly at short notice. If you have any special holiday requests, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to discuss them. We can assist you in planning your holiday by offering advice about travel to Skye, possible destinations for your cruise, provisions for your holiday and with any other queries you might have. In addition to chartering out yachts, we have a large workshop in Ardvasar where we are able to offer a variety of repairs to visiting yachts. Showers are also available here. We usually have a selection of boats and equipment for sale details of which can be found on our website. Charters Scotland

The rugged beauty of Scotland is of World renown. A yacht charter in Scotland is one of the best ways of exploring the country. The West Coast is sparsely inhabited and many places are only accessible by sea. For this reason, a bareboat yacht charter is an increasingly popular way of visiting the area. The scenery is spectacular and the wildlife unusual and diverse. There are lots of harbours and anchorages. We would challenge anyone who charters Scotland not to be impressed.

Charter West Scotland

One of the great things about Scottish charters is the unrivalled opportunity for peace and solitude. As anyone who has experienced the delights of a Yacht charter West Coast Scotland will testify, there are none of the crowds that are the norm in other popular areas of yacht charter UK. A cruise with Scottish Yacht Charter allows you the freedom to enjoy deserted anchorages should you wish to. The numerous islands to be found in this area mean that there is usually somewhere offering shelter whatever the direction of the wind. However one of the great things about Scottish charters is that, if you wish, there are plenty of charming coastal towns and villages offering opportunities for reprovisioning, visiting local attractions or just a welcoming pub.

Bavaria Yacht Charter

We are ideally placed to offer the perfect location for your yacht charter west coast. Our small fleet of yachts is perfect for Scottish charters, being relatively new and fully equipped. Colour plotters, electric anchor windlasses and single line reefing will all enhance the experience of your Scottish Yacht Charter. As anyone familiar with this area will testify, the diesel heating found on all our boats can be very useful on occasions. For your visit ashore, our yachts are equipped with inflatable tenders and outboard motors at no extra charge. All of these features will help to make your sailing charter Scotland a memorable one.

A widely held misconception is that it always rains in Scotland. Aficionados of cruising the West Coast of Scotland will testify to the long periods of settled weather it is often possible to encounter. Of all the yacht charter UK areas Scottish charters are the ones blessed with the longest daylight hours. In midsummer a lucky sailor who charters Scotland will find that even at midnight it is often not entirely dark. Certainly the weather will usually allow barefoot yacht charters, if that is your fancy. As a result of the effects of the Gulf Stream, temperatures are a good deal higher than is generally appreciated.

Bareboat Charter Scotland

One of the considerations when selecting Scottish charters is the ease of access to our home ports. Craobh Haven and Largs marinas are easily accessible by road, train or even air. Our summer base at Craobh Haven is about 2 hours drive from Glasgow or Edinburgh and is approximately 20 miles from Oban, which is the nearest rail link. Largs Marina, our winter base is about 20 miles from Glasgow which in addition to road and rail links has its own airport. Your yachting charters Scotland will start and end with the minimum inconvenience as a result of the locations we have chosen. Anyone who is a client of ours and who charters Scotland regularly will appreciate the ease of access our sites offer for your sailing charter Scotland.

Boat Charter Scotland

We hope that we have tempted you to sample the delights of yacht charters Scotland. Our aim is to ensure that anyone experiencing charters Scotland does so in an enjoyable and hassle free manner. Whether your holiday aim is to discover quiet unspoiled anchorage's, or to undertake longer more challenging cruises, we hope that your experience will make you agree with us that a Charters Scotland cruise is not one to be missed.

Sail and explore the Isle of Skye and the Small Isles from Mallaig with modern yacht Stravaigin.

  • Sail area & highlights
  • Travel planning
  • What's included
  • Boat schedule

Begin your adventure sailing holiday in the Scottish harbour town of Mallaig before setting the sails to explore the island of Skye and the surrounding Small Isles.

Setting the sails

Head West out into the “Small Isles” of Muck, Eigg, Rum and Canna to relax in sheltered anchorages and watch picturesque sunsets, and if we are blessed with dark skies, the stargazing from the deck is breathtaking.

We could visit the eccentric Kinloch Castle on Rum or cross to Skye and the magnificent Loch Scavaig, tucked beneath the Cuillin Hills which rise a thousand metres straight up from our anchorage. There is a large seal population here and we are also likely to spot otters, dolphins and porpoises. The short walk into Loch Coruisk is well worth the effort and we are rewarded with stunning Tolkienesque mountain scenery and maybe sightings of golden eagles and red deer.

Life at Sea

Wherever you end up with Stravaigin, it will certainly be an adventure to remember and with her owner and skipper born and bred in Scotland, you’re in the best hands to discover all the secret spots. John knows the best trails and as you board Stravaigin, he will be able to give you a rough idea of the itinerary and what can be achieved over the week.

This voyage will, as always, be dictated in part by the weather, but when we anchor you will be able to explore ashore, follow trails and discover places off the beaten track. Stravaigin requires no previous sailing experience so you can sit back and enjoy the views although the crew are more than happy to show you the ropes and even give you the helm if you’d like!

Sightings of seabirds such as Black Guillemots can be seen in their hundreds and white-tailed eagles soar along the rugged coastline. Sailing with Stravaigin is often rewarded with widespread sightings of birds of prey like Buzzards, Kestrels, Sparrowhawks and Peregrines. The sound of the seabird colonies is magnificently overwhelming, with the call of seabird colonies, Puffins, Guillemots & Razorbills, echoing off the cliffs.

Common, Bottlenose and Whitebeak Dolphins are frequent swimmers in the wake of the boats bow and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a Minke or Humpback Whale too.

All voyages for Stravaigin

Guest berths: 6 Rig: Bermudan Sloop

Owned and skippered by a Scottish family, Stravaigin offers guests sailing holidays on Scotland’s west coast in some of the best cruising grounds the Hebrides has to offer.

Stravaigin is an old Scots word meaning “t o wander with no particular intent ”.  Stravaigin’s owners say that this encapsulates their ethos of immersive adventures, exploring and discovering new landscapes, experiences, foods, cultures while creating meaningful experiences and memories that will last forever.

Below decks, Stravaigin has been well considered and laid out for guests optimum comfort. The bright and airy saloon with a large table and TV screen sits next to the generous L-shaped galley where guests can enjoy local cuisine and home-cooked meals. She has three private double berth cabins with one ensuite. Two of the double berth cabins can be separated with a lee-cloth for friends or comfortable solo travellers and both bathrooms have a shower.

Stravaigin has a modern Bermudan sloop rig with winches and full navigation systems. If you have never sailed before and are looking to learn the ropes, Stravaigin’s crew love to teach guests and get them involved with all aspects of sailing. Alternatively, she can be sailed single-handedly so if you’re after a relaxing sailing holiday soaking in the sights and delights of Scotland and the Hebrides , then that’s fine too!

Sailing holidays on Stravaigin vary from day sails in the inner Hebrides to week-long sailing adventures exploring the West coast of Scotland. Perfect for solo travellers, couples or families looking for private charters.

Skye Marine

Boat trips | isle of skye.

For the very best marine wildlife encounters on Skye join Skye Marine for a truly memorable boat trip from our own pontoon / floating dock at our farm on the shore of Loch Greshornish, Edinbane - on the road to Dunvegan Castle from Portree.

You'll head out into Loch Greshornish then on to Loch Snizort and Loch Diubaig and, depending on the time of year, you'll have a great chance of seeing seals, puffins, dolphins, porpoise, Minke whales, sea eagles and even the elusive otters + an abundance of other marine mammals and seabirds around some of the remote, uninhabited islands that we visit.

Our experienced skipper will take you to the very best locations that can only be accessed by boat, like the magnificent Eas Tardil waterfall and puffin colonies on the Ascrib Islands.

And if you’d like to catch your own supper while surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of Loch Snizort then book one of our fishing trips . Our skipper will use his local knowledge to get you to some of our best fishing grounds. All rod and tackle hire is included.

And if a boat trip isn’t for everyone in your party then why not book a 2-hour  CROFT TOUR to meet our sheep and Highland Cows or learn to knit or spin with the wool from our sheep. Please note that the croft tours are unsuitable for young childen as this is a working farm not a petting farm.

The boat trips and the croft tours are all operated from our working croft (farm) on the shore of Loch Greshnorish, Edinbane, on the road from Portree to Dunvegan Castle.

You can also stay on the farm in our AirBnB  which sleeps up to 4 people.

Skye is an island, so, naturally, it has a strong affinity with the surrounding sea. What more beautiful, proactive way is there to enjoy the water than by sailing? Isle of Skye Yachts take full advantage of the unique cruising area that exists around the island,  providing an attractive selection of top-quality yachts for you to choose from. The company is based at Armadale/Ardvasar on the Isle of Skye. When you arrive to board your yacht for your holiday it will be on one of their moorings in Armadale Bay. The Company has a boatyard, workshop and office facilities at Ardvasar about ½ mile away – this is where most of the yachts live during the winter.

Wherever you cruise in the area there is interesting marine life to be seen. Puffins, seals, dolphins, whales, basking sharks, porpoises, otters and many, many sea birds are regularly observed and photographed by customers. If you would like to spend time ashore then there are plenty of hill walking opportunities and a number of castles and other places of interest to visit during your sail in the area. Indeed, there are a number of Gourmet restaurants accessible from the sea, and some have to be seen to be believed! For  family parties and those who long to walk barefoot in the sand there are also beautiful and remote beaches to visit. Cast off!
