Welcome to mini land yachts and land yachting.

This website will hopefully provide you with lots of useful information about Minilandyachts; provide answers to some of your questions, and inspire you to have a go at sailing on land.

Introduction

Sandyachting / Landyachting / Landsailing / Dirtboating are all words used to describe the same activity, the sailing of wheeled craft on land.

In the UK we tend to use the term Sandyachting, because that's what we do... sail on sand.

The sport has a long history, mainly because - wherever there is a beach suitable for sandyachting - ie flat, hard and preferably dry sand - someone will have sailed something on it, and they will invariably have been inspired by tales of someone else who sailed something similar, a decade or two earlier.

If you are interested in the History of Sandyachting and it's development in Britain, there is a hardback book with that title, 210 pictures and 201 pages, written in 1990, with copies still available at £20 including postage to mainland UK, direct from the author [email protected] .

The first Minilandyacht was the Windskate, in 1975. It was an immediate success, but the landyachting community are a competitive group of people, in that they generally like to sail faster than their friends, and - as a sweeping generalisation - the bigger the yacht, the faster it will go, so the little Windskate was quickly stretched - for racing purposes - and became Class 5.

The current wave of enthusiasm for Minilandyachts started at The Americas Landsailing Cup event at Ivanpah, USA, in 2000, when Jean-Philippe Krischer of Seagull (France) launched the Ludic.

The Ludic inspired numerous copies - of which the Potty Minilandyacht was but one - and, as with the Windskate, the little Minis were then stretched - for racing purposes - until the Sport's International Governing Body (FISLY) introduced a new Class for the Minilandyachts in 2012, with a specification that said the footprint of all 3 wheels must fit with a rope 5.60m long. The Minilandyachts Class was subdivided in 2017 into Sport - Mini Class 5s - and Spirit, the stretched original little Minis. The Sport Minis seem to have died out; the Spirit Minis are evolving quickly, and the original little Minis have been left behind.

The little Minis are much smaller than the yachts that now race in the Minilandyachts Class - and accordingly are hopelessly uncompetitive - but the vast majority of folk who show interest in the concept of the Minilandyachts are not interested in racing... they simply want to enjoy sailing on their local beach, for the sheer fun of it. If that includes you, then you're in luck, because this website is aimed at you.

This boat is in great condition for the age. It was primarily used on lake Michigan it whole life until I brought it down the river system to Kentucky lake. Being said it was only used for about 3 months a year then dry stored. I have just bought a lake house on a land locked lake so can't get it there. 1993 Hunter Passage 42 - PROTEUS Set up for serious off-shore passage making and fully self-sufficient off-the-grid cruising. Has recently (beginning 2014) sailed in England, the coast of Europe and the western Med (2015) and crossed the Atlantic to the Caribbean (Nov 2015). Came up through the Caribbean (spring 2016). This yacht was never chartered, always privately owned, and meticulously cared for. All servicing and installations were done to a high standard. All safety equipment is up-to-date. The yacht participated in the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) which requires a high standard of safety equipment, training, and inspections. The yacht has been certified as a Class-A offshore sailing yacht. All documentation is available and will be conveyed to future owner. The previous owners lived aboard, loved every minute of it, but are now moving back on land for a few years and do not want the boat to sit and atrophy. She needs to go to a good home and to someone who will continue the journey! She has taken care of her owners for years and will continue to do so for many years to come. S/V PROTEUS is "overbuilt" and designed for extended offshore passage-making and off-the-grid cruising. Just want to jump all the way down to the USVI instead of going the super-slow way all the way through the Bahamas? Okay. The previous owners just made a passage from the Dominican Republic straight to Ft.Lauderdale (March 2016). Seven days offshore? No problem. PROTEUS has a thicker hull, reinforced rigging, extra backstay (B&R rigs normally don't have them). Massive solar panels, watermaker, genset, wind generator – all these advanced features make for a yacht that can go anywhere, do anything, and actually be comfortable while doing it. The solar panels were upgraded in 2015, and the owners report that they lived entirely off the solar panels and almost never used the generator while underway. Occasionally, you'll hear people scoff at production yachts for being only for "coastal" cruising. "Oh, I'd never cross an ocean in that!" Not the Passage 42! Did I mention she's cruised in the North Sea and English Channel recently? When there were only aluminum-hull Ovni's and other "extreme" sailboats and expedition yachts at the docks, PROTEUS was right in there with the best of them. The seller has not used this RV for camping. Was purchased as a project to complete but decided life had enough stuff going on, so this unit is being sold "as is." The body of the airstream has a few nicks, but overall the body is in really good condition. The RV has no water damage, and all seals seem very good. The interior is all original and it's amazing how well it has held up. The curtains will probably need replaced and the bathroom will need some work. The A/C, heat and electrical components have not been tested. Unit does not have any propane in the tanks, tanks are older and probably need replaced. Stock #317211 Make it Your Own! 27 Foot! The absolute perfect size, not too big, but yet big enough, at 27', this Airstream can fit into almost all campgrounds, and this International Land Yacht Series was one of their flagship production trailers back in 1972. Step back in time when quality meant quality, and Airstream made their trailers last. It's amazing how well these Airstreams hold up even after 50 years. This 1972 27-foot International Land Yacht is overall in good condition. Our seller went back and forth on fixing it up or letting someone else use their imagination to make the trailer their own. Eventually, the seller decided to clean it up, leave the original equipment intact, and let someone build their Airstream to fit their own personality and lifestyle. This Airstream has good bones, not beat up or banged up, tires have less than 1,000 miles on them, and are right at two years of age. The unit was recently moved to its current location and was pulled about 50 miles without any problems. Nothing has been used in the RV for several years, so the seller is not sure what works or does not work, so you are buying an RV that needs work to be completed and ready for everyday use. I have a very gently loved Land Yacht for sale. She is built on the P30 Chassis with a healthy 454 chevy V8 propelling her down the road. it currently has 73,920 miles on it. (mostly highway miles) Exterior condition is almost Mint. Paint is glossy and stickers are in perfect condition. Transmission pan was dropped and filter replaced (2 years ago) Engine Tune up with new spark plugs and wires, new air filter (6 months ago) Onan 5500 Generator was serviced and all gaskets replaced (6 months ago) Interior is in excellent condition. Carpets professionally cleaned (Spring 2016) New Fantastic Fan (While installing the fan I had the service department Reseal the rest of the roof as well) The reason I am selling her is because my family has grown from 3 to 6 and everyone has really taken to the RVing adventures. We have found our next slightly bigger RV. Toilet is brand new and the shower, sink and bathroom cabinetry are all clean and tight. Walk-around queen bed is VERY comfortable and bedroom has large windows on 3 sides and a new flat screen TV. Two TVs in the kitchen/living room area and two skylights with functioning blinds. Carpet is in good condition throughout. Two house air conditioners, plus dash air conditioner. Driver side door. Patio awning is like new. Chevy Workhorse drivetrain in great shape with less than 45,000 miles. Replaced in 2015: Roof re-sealed in 2015 (wasn't leaking). All new tires and breaks in 2015 with less than 150 miles on them now. Automatic step rebuilt 2015. The CUMMINS 300hp Diesel engine and Allison transmission will run for 750,000 miles if maintained which is why these diesels hold their value. 1995 Airstream Land Yacht , 1995 Airstream Landyacht LE, front AC is 2 years old, rear AC is only 2 months old (VERY COLD and Quiet Atwood with digital remote), dash AC was upgraded to modern specs and is also very cold (AC is important in Florida). 6 gallon propane water heater, 30000 btu furnace, gas cooktop, microwave/convection oven and refrigerator all work perfectly. Fantastic Vent fan over dinette. AM/FM CD in dash with speakers throughout. Cabinets are all in great shape. Airsteam used the same materials as they use in their aluminum trailers. All seating is a mixture of leather and fabric in very good shape. 5.5 kw Onan generator works great (just installed new voltage regulator $600). Runs and drives great. Tires are at about 60%. I bought this RV from the original owners about 3 years ago who drove it to all 48 contiguous states. Since then, we have only been to Disney and one trip to Ga. We love the RV but have outgrown it.
