Superyachts on film are not uncommon: The Bond series is famous for its fast cars and sleek luxury yachts, while recent Netflix film Murder Mystery was filmed aboard 60m/198ft motor yacht SARASTAR , but M/Y SOLANDGE has brought new heights of glamour to the small screen as the notable backdrop in Season Two of hit TV series Succession .

The comedy-drama centres around the Roy family as patriarchal figure Logan Roy, who owns and controls a worldwide media conglomerate, declines in health and his children are sized up for taking his place as head of the empire.

Luxury yacht SOLANDGE measures 85.1m/279.2ft and was launched from the Lurssen shipyard in Germany in 2013 before going on to win the Exterior Design category at the Monaco Yacht Show Awards 2014 , as well as making it to the finals at three other awards shows that same year. Her exterior styling is the work of renowned designer Espen Oeino , while the interiors from Rodriguez Interiors transport guests to a more elegant age using classical styling, golden accents and detailed patterns of Eastern origin.

Accommodation

The lavish on board accommodation provides for up to 12 guests in a choice of eight en-suite cabins: 1 Master suite, 1 VIP stateroom, 3 double cabins, 2 double cabins convertible to twins and 1 twin cabin.

The majority of the guest accommodation is placed on the main deck, where the elevated position provides better views and more natural light into the spacious and light interiors. Each has a classical appearance using light coloured wood and inlays in mother of pearl, and a subtle Middle Eastern motif in the patterns.

The guest companionway is unique in offering hot and refrigerated drinks as well as snacks so that guests can get what they desire late at night without needing to call the crew.

The Owner’s suite is a part of its own dedicated deck, which includes an office and separate his-and-hers dressing rooms and bathrooms. There is a salon more casual in appearance the opulent main deck lounge, and the bedroom itself contains hand-made Italian furniture and a stunning chandelier above the central bed. Its forward position overlooks the bow through 180-degree windows, where there is a private spa pool.

There are also 15 cabins to accommodate a professional and highly skilled crew of 29, ensuring that guests are treated to a truly indulgent experience while on board, from health and beauty treatments in the spa massage room to Scuba diving deep underwater.

Day or night, guests will be tempted outside to live under the Mediterranean sky by the choice of sumptuous seating designed for cocktail evenings while dockside or roaring parties away from the city lights. The sweeping central staircase from the lower deck to the main deck aft makes a statement by itself and is a great opportunity for a photo-shoot before heading in to view the splendour within.

Sunbeds, a swimming pool and stern-side seating only partially fill the spaces across each deck, leaving plenty of room for dancing the night away or yoga in the fresh morning air.

M/Y SOLANDGE can accommodate hundreds of guests for dockside events, who have plenty of choice when it comes to refreshments from the wet bars. On the Owner’s deck and the sundeck, where a forward Jacuzzi lets you wallow under the stars. The Owner has a private Jacuzzi and sunpads on the foredeck that’s perfect for lazy afternoons after a big celebration or nightcaps and stargazing before bed.

The exceptional decor by Rodriguez Interiors is what has given luxury yacht SOLANDGE her character and was no doubt a deciding factor in selecting her over many other options for the superyacht in Succession: Opulence is around every corner and guests ascending the main deck aft staircase will be awestruck by the extravagant main salon where golden tones in the furnishings and light fixtures are contrasted by cool blues in the surrounding wall panelling.

The Owner’s salon meanwhile has a comfortable lounge setting in front of a widescreen TV, a fireplace with armchairs and a games table for entertaining small groups on cosy nights indoors.

The most impressive of all however is the Tree of Life at the centre of the stairwell, which stretches from the lower deck all the way up to the sundeck.

Motor yacht SOLANDGE is expensive for a reason: She lavishes upon her guests almost every modern convenience conceivable. The beach club alone contains a DJ station, a dance floor hiding a spa pool beneath, and a golden bar with 14 matching stools. Across the decks there is also a massage room and hair salon, an indoor cinema, a sauna, steam room and gym plus a helipad for getting to and from the airport in style.

The 279ft (85m)  charter yacht SOLANDGE is the yacht in HBO’s  Succession. Hitting TV screens in 2019, the season finale of season 2 gives viewers an inside glimpse into life on board the Lurssen luxury yacht in the Mediterranean .

The curtain closed on season 2 of hit HBO show Succession earlier this month, after a dramatic season finale filmed on board SOLANDGE cruising the Mediterranean .

The series gives viewers a peak inside the six-deck superyacht, which can be rented from €1,000,000 (approximately $1,136,000) per week plus expenses.

While the yacht is fictitiously owned by the Roy family in the series, Succession showcases the type of lifestyle you can expect when chartering million-dollar megayachts ; from stylish helicopter departures to zipping between islands on a luxury tender.

Succession is an award-winning comedy-drama which centres around the life of the uber-wealthy and highly dysfunctional Roy family.

At the helm of the family is patriarch Logan Roy, a media titan who heads up and controls an international media conglomerate. After his health takes a turn for the worst, his adult children must each face the prospect of becoming heir to the family business. 

Rife with power struggles, backstabbing betrayals and family loyalty, Succession offers a fresh take on abuse, media and wealth in contemporary America.  

Succession showcases the type of lifestyle you can expect when chartering million-dollar megayachts.

The dramatic end to season 2 of Succession premiered in October 2019, with the finale to Succession filmed on board the motor yacht SOLANDGE.

This glamorous setting gave us plenty of scandal; Logan disingenuously suggesting stepping down as CEO, Connor's iPad getting thrown overboard and of course, the shocking final moments where we see Kendall blowing the whistle on his father.

How much does it cost to rent the yacht in Succession?

The cost of renting luxury yacht SOLANDGE is upwards of 1 million euros (or 1.136 million dollars) per week plus expenses during both the winter and summer. This price does not include the cost of food, drink, fuel dockage, VAT and tips.

What does the yacht from Succession look like inside?

With her Lurssen pedigree, innovative design and stunning selection of amenities,  SOLANDGE is recognised as one of the world’s most iconic superyachts.

She is home to all the facilities you would expect on a yacht of this calibre, including a sleek swimming pool with jet-stream technology and a cutting-edge chromotherapy spa with Hamman and treatment room which both integrate light therapy. 

Her main deck plays host to the expansive owners’ suite, which enjoys his and hers en suites with adjoining dressing rooms, a private lounge-cum-office and a private deck area with dip pool and intimate seating areas. 

While chartering her, guests can make use out of a fully-stocked wine cellar and an elevator with the capacity for nine.

Inside superyacht SOLANDGE

SOLANDGE features ornate interiors from Florida-based studio Rodriguez Interiors. A palatial theme is reflected in plush fabrics, a rich colour palette and a selection of semi-precious stones, including amethyst, honey onyx, gold leaf and rose quartz.

The design team behind SOLANDGE has also sourced plenty of glass fixtures from Murano, an island near Venice famed for its rich history of glass-making. 

Her opulent finish is evident in the main salon, which is flanked by two walls of LED backlit amethyst that imbue the room with a soft lilac glow.

An elaborate focal point, the walls have been created by slicing a piece of amethyst into tiny segments with diamond wire and gluing them to a glass sheet, before then being covered by a panel of Plexiglass studded with LED lights.

Another talking point aboard the charter yacht is the floating central staircase, which features a sculpted ‘Tree of Life’ statue ascending the full height of the yacht.

In total, 1,423 points of light illuminate the space with a warm glow. Themes of nature continue in the owner’s suite, where backlit mullions depict the Garden of Eden. 

In total, around 25 wood veneers have been used throughout luxury yacht SOLANDGE. On the lower decks, where there is typically less light, the yacht features darker, ebony finishes; higher up, lighter blondewood and caramel finishes are more prevalent.

This delicate mix of traditional opulence and contemporary punches of colour and texture lend SOLANDGE an atmosphere quite unlike any yacht.

A motor yacht of her calibre makes the perfect backdrop for Succession, and it’s hoped we’ll see SOLANDGE return to reprise her role as the Roy family’s luxury yacht in season 3.

Solandge, the yacht used in Succession, costs $1million a week to hire

In last night’s Succession Season 2 finale on HBO, the Roy family and their top Waystar-Royco aides spent time onboard Logan Roy’s luxurious Mediterranean yacht, ostensibly on a brief cruise vacation.  However, the Mediterranean cruise was actually intended to give Logan (Brian Cox) the opportunity to take time off to decide who should take the fall to save Waystar-Royco’s tarnished reputation following the company’s mismanagement scandal, and a congressional hearing on the matter.

Logan finally decided that his troubled son Kendall (Jeremy Strong) would be the “blood sacrifice” to save the company.

Solandge was the yacht used in the Succession Season 2 finale

The yacht used in last night’s episode of Succession was the famous 85.1-meter Lürssen motor yacht Solandge . Solandge is one of the world’s largest and most iconic luxurious motor superyachts available for charter.

The weekly summer and winter charter price for a Mediterranean cruise is listed as being from €1,000,000 ( currently about $1,102, 642 plus expenses ).

Solandge was first listed for sale in 2015 at an asking price of €179 million. It was finally sold in a deal brokered by the luxury yacht brokerage firm Moran Yacht & Ship in 2017. The deal, said to be the biggest yacht deal of the year in 2017, was reportedly worth €155,000,000.

Solandge was built by Lürssen in 2013. The luxurious granite, marble and wood interior of the yacht was jointly designed by Rodriguez Interiors and Dolker & Voges. The exterior was designed by Espen Øino ( Espen Oeino).

The yacht is able to sleep 12-16 guests in eight large staterooms. It is also able to accommodate a large gathering of overnight party guests in en-suite cabins. Facilities include a sauna, steam room, massage room, beauty salon, gym, sun deck, outdoor swimming pool, dance floor, bar, outdoor cinema, and nightclub.

The boat has a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top speed of 17 knots.

You, Too, Can Charter the ‘Succession’ Yacht…for $1.1 Million a Week

Who owns the ‘Succession’ yacht? Learn more about the ‘Solandge,’ the 279-foot boat the Roy family boarded in the HBO drama’s second season.

Who owns the Succession yacht? Certainly not Succession star Sarah Snook , who told Page Six on Oct. 12, that she has no interest in such an expense. “You own a boat like that, you’ve got to maintain a boat like that,” said Snook, who plays Shiv Roy on the show. “It’s like $12 mil a year or something like that to maintain. Who wants to spend money on that?…Give the money away; no one needs that much money. There’s a ceiling where money makes you happy, and beyond that, it’s just greed.”

Of course, you don’t have to own the 279-foot yacht featured in the HBO drama ’s second season to enjoy its amenities. You can also charter the luxurious vessel , but you’d still need deep pockets.

Who owns the ‘Succession’ yacht?

The Solandge found a new owner in March 2017, after being listed for sale with Moran Yacht & Ship for 155,000,000 euros (about $180 million). However, the identity of the buyer hasn't been revealed.

Actress J. Smith-Cameron, who plays Gerri Kellman on Succession , discussed the boat with BuzzFeed News in Oct. 2019. “I think it’s a Saudi-owned superyacht . I believe the word ‘Solandge’ is made up of the letters of the kids’ and cousins’ names. I think somebody told me that. It may or may not be true. But it seemed like a good choice because it seemed like a parallel universe for the Roy family.”

BOAT International reported that the Solandge sale was the biggest brokerage deal of 2017 at the time. “We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her new owner and thank her former owner for recognizing our expertise in selling large quality yachts and entrusting us with the sale of Solandge ,” Moran said upon the sale.

How do you rent the ‘Succession’ yacht?

The Solandge is available for charter through Moran Yacht & Ship, but it will set you back. You can charter the vessel for a summer week in the Mediterranean or a winter week in the Caribbean and the Bahamas, but both charters cost 1,000,000 euros per week, or about $1.16 million.

Moran touts that the Solandge is “one of the finest vessels currently available for charter and is one of the world’s largest and most iconic yachts.” The yacht sleeps 12 guests in eight state rooms, with a private owner’s deck and suite. A crew of 29, meanwhile, sleeps in 15 crew cabins. Built in 2013, the Solandge won the "La Belle Classe Superyachts" award from the Monaco Yacht Club at the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show, and the award for the best exterior at the Monaco Yacht Show Awards.

The Solandge ’s top deck features an outdoor cinema and a nightclub, the main deck features an indoor-outdoor gym, and the lower deck features a dive center, a tender garage, and a sauna. The saloon interior, designed by Aileen Rodriguez, boasts a floor-to-ceiling panel of backlit amethyst quartz, a large bar of amethyst-and-honey onyx, and a dining table under an amethyst-and-rose-quartz chandelier. And don’t forget about the onboard beauty salon, swimming pool, jacuzzi, and helipad!

You Too Can Charter the Yacht on Succession

The fourth, and final, season of HBO’s Succession has just started, and it picks up where season three ended, with some of the most crucial scenes taking place on a 279-foot megayacht cruising in the Adriatic not far from Dubrovnik, Croatia.

At that time, the fictional Roy family, owners of the media giant Waystar (if you don’t think of Fox and Rupert Murdoch you’re not paying attention) have gathered for a critical business meeting. The first evening on board, Logan, the patriarch, announces that he will have to fire one of them (or another leader of the company) to satisfy his investors and troublesome Congressional investigators.

The yacht, Solandge , a $174 million Lürssen launched in 2013, is a perfect setting for a corporate beheading. Indeed, Mark Mylod, the show’s director, said it was “the ultimate gilded cage to trap these characters in” with the metaphor of throwing one of them overboard.

Solandge , as it turns out, is close to gilded; the interior does not include gold, but it does include 49 different marble and granite surfaces, and 30 types of wood. It holds 12 guests in eight cabins plus 29 crew in 15 cabins. Its six decks include a private owner’s deck, where the bulwarks have been lowered so they don’t interfere with the view from the bed.

Elsewhere, Solandge has a helipad, a dance floor with a DJ setup on the upper deck, a Jacuzzi, a fully stocked wine cellar, spa, massage room, elevator, and what Moran, which charters it, calls “a number of bars, buffet areas and even a large swimming pool.”

The toys include diving equipment, three Yamaha WaveRunners, wakeboards, kayaks and four tenders, including a 36-foot Fjord.

Guess Shiv shouldn't have told Tom she didn't love him, huh?

Before we get into this week's speed rankings, let's run down how things turned out in the eventful season finale of Succession .

What happened

Kendall and the pool: It turns out Kendall was drowning and not merely hitting rock bottom or testing his father's theory about how long it took for the kid in the car to die. Fortunately for him, Comfry happened upon him in time to get him to the hospital, where he spent the night and scared the heck out of everybody, but from which he escaped physically unharmed. He did, however, have a breakdown of sorts, during which he finally confessed to his siblings about his role in the death of the waiter at Shiv's wedding. His near-death experience and this shattering confession, combined with the shocking news that Logan was preparing to sell the company to GoJo, brought Kendall, Shiv and Roman together against their father at last.

The GoJo situation: The siblings decided to leverage their power and work together to stop the sale of the company by defying Logan as a group, which they've seemingly never done, and certainly never about anything important. Fortunately for them, as they confronted the most powerful human being in their lives, they hung together even as Logan berated and tried to intimidate them. But unfortunately for them, by the time they got there, he was way ahead of them, and had gotten their disappointing mother to rearrange the family shares so that the siblings could no longer stop the sale. (It seemed important last week when Caroline mentioned to Shiv that they had reopened the divorce over an apartment her new husband wanted. Now we know why that detail was in there.)

So as things stand now in the company, Logan is selling Waystar Royco to Matsson, who will be in charge, and Kendall, Shiv and Roman are on the outs — especially now that they attempted a coup and failed.

The cheeseball stands alone: But one man seems to be sitting pretty, and has maintained his precious position as a favored ally of Logan: Tom, who — it appears — tipped off Logan about the coming coup in time for Logan to maneuver with Caroline to stop it. And of course, he's bringing Greg with him as he ascends to whatever position he believes Logan will give him. Does Tom really think he's better off with Logan than with the siblings in charge? Does he just have such animosity toward his wife that he's doing this to spite her? Or does Tom believe that if Shiv is separated from Waystar Royco (or GoJoStar or whatever it will now be), this will make it more likely that she will want a baby?

What was this season about?: This season did have a narrative after all: It was about Kendall starting off with grand hopes of leading a coup against his father, losing hope to the point where he nearly died, and only then finding the support that he had wanted so badly. This weird triumph of sorts is the season's story, even though Kendall lost to his father, for now, in the closing minutes.

You can see this entire season up to the finale, episode by episode, as the process of Kendall losing hope as he is emotionally separated from everyone in his life, one by one — sometimes quite fairly and sometimes not.

In the season premiere, he wanted to impress Rava with his big press conference, but instead, she wound up enraged by the carelessness of his girlfriend, Naomi. Then came the episode with the sibling summit, where Connor led the siblings in rejecting Kendall's plans. Episode Three: At the employee meeting, he humiliated Shiv and she spat in his notebook. Episode Four: Greg went back to Logan's side in exchange for a rum and Coke. Episode Five: Logan set up the fake meeting (after the shareholder meeting) to humiliate him and then told Kerry to block his number for good. Episode Six: Tom turned him down in the diner. Episode Seven: Roman delivered the devastating birthday card that caused him to spiral. Episode Eight: Even Kendall's mother refused to take his side.

Now, he has the strangest possible redemption: His confession to his siblings is an enormous weight off his shoulders that he never thought he would feel, and working in tandem with them revitalizes him to the point where at the end, even though he's down, he is the one who looks like he is not out. He is the one who seems the least afraid of Logan, because he's seen Logan do his worst and has little left to lose. Unlike Shiv and Roman, Kendall wasn't trying to hold on to any shreds of his relationship with his father. (He has also, as far as we know, not told his siblings yet that Logan covered up the death of the waiter and held it over his head for a couple of years.) It seemed at the end of last season as if Kendall was taking power; then he spent a whole season seeming to sink back into despair, and then, by telling the truth at the right moment, he got it back. For once, he's not drowning.

This season, each week, we are ranking members of the main cast of Succession based on how fast they are speeding toward moral ruin. Or, if you will, how efficiently they are flying down the highway to hell. Not everybody appears every week, depending on how much they have to do. Sometimes, you just idle.

100 MPH: Logan

Look, if Logan Roy wants to sell his company, he can sell his company; that's not evil. But boxing out his kids, taunting them, insulting them and acting like they've betrayed him by wanting to guard their own money in exactly the way he would guard his? That stinks. Put it together with everything else he's done this season and he's still hurtling toward moral ruin faster than anyone.

85 MPH: Tom

I think Tom would be proud to be hurtling toward hell at 85 miles an hour. You could argue that Shiv deserves a little payback from a guy she has sometimes treated terribly (going back at least as far as announcing she wanted an open marriage on their wedding night). But ultimately, he took confidential information she gave to him and used it against her in the way that would pain her the most, and two wrongs do not make a right. Moreover, you don't get to ruin your wife's life just so she might be more open to motherhood. Tom is a real Roy now; it just goes to show that if you lie down with a dog's family, you wake up with a flea's family. Or something.

80 MPH: Greg

It's a real surprise to see Greg so highly rated, I know. He's been mostly poking along toward hell all season. But while they originally seemed to be doing a fairly tame "Greg has two dates" story at Caroline's wedding, this episode uncovered the ugliest, most grasping, most unfeeling parts of this kid who can sometimes feel like a relatively harmless doofus. He treated both Comfry and the Contessa (or whatever she actually is) absolutely atrociously, like interchangeable trinkets to be chosen between based on their status and the potential benefit to him. Was it a little on the nose for him to respond to Tom's "deal with the devil" by saying, "What am I going to do with a soul anyways"? It was. Does it kind of seem like ... that's what's happening? It does.

60 MPH: Roman

Roman has slowed his roll, dealing-with-the-devil-wise. In Season 1, when Kendall held the vote of no confidence, Roman caved. At the same moment here, he held his ground, even though he kept being the one who thought he could just ask, profess his love, maybe end things peacefully. He also managed some genuine kindness to Kendall, even though it came in the form of awful gallows humor. It was also noteworthy that Roman was genuinely wounded when Gerri made it clear that she was not going to intervene on his behalf, because it wasn't in her own interests. And as she told him quite a while ago, she does what advances her own interests. He may believe they have a special relationship, but she does not.

60 MPH: Kendall

It's hard not to, in some ways, "root" for Kendall in the sense that Logan is the Big Bad of this show, the one who seems invincible, and Kendall has spent an entire season seeing his efforts fizzle. Nevertheless, you cannot actually root for Kendall, because like all these people, he's terrible. Like his brother and sister, he's slowed down to a nice cruising speed. He's under the speed limit on the road to hell!

60 MPH: Shiv

Shiv has been trying to shimmy close to her dad all season and she's been rebuffed and humiliated in return. It's often appeared that she was Logan's favorite, buuuuuut in the end, she wasn't any better off than anyone else, and she finally realized it. She's also always been a little paranoid, in that she's always been the one fretting that they would lose the company, that she was going to get cheated or pushed out or deprived of her due. And when she heard her dad was actually trying to sell Waystar, all that paranoia seemed to come true at once. She was the one who brought her brothers together, who insisted they needed to act, who pushed and pushed. She made just one little mistake, though: She wasn't very nice to her husband. Oh, and she cheats at Monopoly.

50 MPH: Connor

Connor is also awful, but Connor gets a few miles per hour shaved off this week simply because he's still not heavily involved in the company and its shenanigans. It's also because I did feel slightly bad for him when Kendall called himself the "eldest son," when — as Connor pointed out — he is Logan's eldest son. On the other hand, Connor is trying to become president, and that puts him in a position to do at least as much damage as, say, Roman would do running a sports betting site for his dad. And congratulations to him for an engagement in which his future bride spoke the most romantic words a man can ever hope to hear: "How bad can it be?"

The Only Succession Recap You Need Before Season 3 Starts

I t’s been a full two years—and a whole pandemic—since the last episode of Succession aired on HBO. Since then in the real world, we’ve watched billionaires cover up sex scandals, sulkily testify in front of congress , and launch rockets into space —but those plutocrats don’t ruin the world with quite as much style as the Roy family. On Oct. 17, season three picks up with the fallout from another Kendall Roy bombshell: instead of shouldering the blame for a major company scandal, he has once again turned on his father. Ahead of Succession ‘s return, here’s a recap what’s happened on the show so far, and where all the major characters stand going into a new season of corporate warfare.

Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong)

Aliases: Ken.W.A, Washington Ken, Mr. Potato Head, Yuppie RoboCop

Job title: N/A

Can the term “hero’s journey” be used to describe someone so despicable? Kendall Roy has spent the first two seasons of Succession desperately clawing his way to the seat he believes belongs to him: CEO of Waystar Royco. Kendall is deeply insecure, suffers from a never-ending identity crisis and is constantly craving his father’s respect; he wants the top job because its importance has been drilled into the center of his value system his whole life.

In the first season, Kendall attempted to get there through a string of corporate maneuvers against his father: first through a vote of no confidence, and then via a hostile takeover. (Both efforts failed.) The stress of this conflict caused him to relapse into his drug addictions—which ended in the death of a waiter who drowned after Kendall drove them off the road and into a body of water.

Chastened and guilt-ridden, Kendall spent most of season two Zombie-walking under direct orders from his father, gutting the media outlet Vaulter and defending the family ferociously at a congressional hearing. (All the while, he was doing plenty of drugs and stealing batteries from bodegas just to feel something.)

But in the finale, Kendall finally snapped out of his stupor when his father announced that he needed to be the fall-guy for the company’s cruise crimes (A deeper explanation on that in a second). Instead of accepting the blame and the possible prison time, Kendall instead turned the tables, pinning the responsibility on his father in a press conference and calling him a “malignant presence, a bully and a liar” and pronouncing, “This is the day his reign ends.” He strode out of the room, with the document-carrying Greg and the ever-faithful Jess at his side, prepared to wage yet another all-out war against his father.

Despite the jaw-dropping power move, Kendall is still in a tough spot. He’s trying to put all the blame on his father while absolving himself, even though he was leading entertainment operations at the time of the creation of shadow logs. His father still has the ultimate trump card: the secret knowledge that Kendall killed someone.

Logan Roy ( Brian Cox )

Aliases: “L to the Oh-Geeee,” “Uncle Fun,” “The Old Dinosaur,” “Worse Than Hitler”

Job title: Founder of Waystar Royco

Even at 80-years-old, there’s no better manipulator or gaslighter in the Roy family than patriarch Logan. His health continues to fail him—he has suffered a stroke, become disoriented outside his home and peed on the floor several times—but he’s successfully fended off siege after siege through a mixture of bullying, intimidation, and cunning.

In season two, Logan’s most pressing crisis was the public unveiling of Waystar’s cruise scandal, which fell domino by domino. First, a New York Magazine article alleged that cruises executive Lester McClintock had pressured female workers into having sex to renew their contracts. Then, a Waystar whistleblower came forward to expose the details of a whole “wolfpack” culture of sexual exploitation, in which migrant workers were particularly vulnerable to predatory actions and women who resisted or knew too much even went overboard. That precipitated a congressional hearing, in which records were subpoenaed about cover-ups, hush money and deleted shadow logs.

In the season’s final episode, a major shareholder came to Logan and demanded that he step down. But Logan ignored the request and instead assembled his family and inner circle on a giant yacht in order to pit them against each other as if at a Survivor tribal council. Logan eventually settled on Kendall as the most logical and effective choice, and prepped him to announce his admission of guilt in a press conference.

But Logan’s heartlessness—and his penchant for twisting the knife in his victims—backfired. When he told Kendall that Kendall wasn’t a killer, it only made Kendall want to prove him wrong. And Logan’s invocation of the phrase “no real person involved” made clear the extent of his moral depravity as well as how much of Waystar’s rot came from its very core.

Now, Logan is back to fighting on multiple fronts: against his son, wary shareholders demanding his head, legal and congressional authorities. But the man isn’t backing down: the trailer for the new season shows him announcing his attention to go “Full f-cking beast.”

Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook)

Alias: Pinky

Job title: Former chief-of-staff to Gil Eavis, current Waystar shareholder

For good reason, Logan’s only daughter spent most of her professional career keeping her distance from the family business, both to prove her bonafides and to remove herself from the continuous Royco shitshow. She instead moved into the political world and got a job as a key advisor to far-left presidential candidate Gil Eavis, all the while carrying on an affair with fellow political operator Nate Sofrelli. Shiv often displays commitment issues, whether in her professional or personal life: on her wedding night, she asked her new husband Tom for an open relationship.

But in season two, Shiv was successfully reeled back into Waystar by her father, who offered her the top job in private—only for him to yoink back the proposal at a tense dinner with the Pierces, their rival media magnate company. Logan was so resistant to Shiv taking over that he nearly tanked the entire deal with the Pierces—which he needed to win his proxy battle—in order to avoid promising her the top slot.

Back in the fold and lacking a plan B, Shiv had no choice but to play the game on her father’s terms. She intimidated a crucial witness into not testifying in front of congress; she waged a ferocious power struggle with Rhea Jarrell (Holly Hunter), a media executive who also gunned Logan’s favor in season two. Shiv’s masterstroke against Rhea came in the episode “Dundee”: when she learned that the whistleblower was about to come forward with allegations, she convinced her father to choose Rhea as the next CEO, knowing that the position would soon be toxic.

In the season finale, Shiv was also a crucial voice in steering Logan toward picking Ken as the fall guy. It’s clear that she has her father’s ear in crucial situations—but on the other hand, he’s backstabbed her plenty of times before. For now, her allegiance lies with her father and against the brother she has tried to destroy several times over.

Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin)

Aka Dr. Moron, “Revolting little worm”

Job title: chief operating officer, Waystar Royco

Early on, Roman was portrayed as little more than a malicious, spoiled brat; a Joe Pesci-type grifter and egomaniac. (In an infamous season one scene, he masturbated to his corner office view.) In season two, his efforts to impress his father on a rocket launch by rushing it forward backfired spectacularly when the rocket exploded on takeoff.

But Roman has also proved himself analytically agile and strangely empathetic. He fared well at the company’s management training program and led a negotiation-turned-hostage situation in Turkey with impressive resolve and courage. He has also been carrying on a—let’s say, unique—psychosexual relationship with Gerri, who plays the role of his mother figure, mentor and forbidden love. At the moment, Roman’s proximity to Gerri gives him cover and a potential path to the top–but his strong, complex relationship with his defecting brother complicates things.

Connor Roy (Alan Ruck)

Aka the First Pancake

Job title: Broadway producer

The only person who takes the eldest Roy son seriously is himself. The hyperdecanting, bread-making, fake-Napoleon’s-penis-buying estate manager ran a very unsuccessful campaign for president predicated on wiping out taxes (and he did not, in fact, “wipe the floor with [Gil Eavis] in a debate” as he claimed). His subsequent attempt to be the next great Broadway mogul also evaporated, as his escort-turned-girlfriend Willa’s play bombed so hard she threw an iPad into the sea.

Connor is now in a financial hole so deep his asked his father for a “little hundred mil,” causing Logan to respond with some fatherly tact: “Everybody thinks you’re a joke and you’re f-cking embarrassing me.” In an attempt to dig himself out, Connor generously offered to be the fall guy for the cruise fiasco in exchange for compensation, weaving a story in which he was the “eminence grise” of the family. The idea was met with smirks by everyone at the table. Connor has mostly served as comedic relief to the show’s real machinations; that trend is unlikely to end any time soon.

Tom Wambsgams (Matthew MacFadyen)

Aka “Smirking block of domestic feta,” “The Cunt of Monte Cristo”

Job title: Chairman of Global Broadcast News at ATN

As I wrote last year, Tom is a “groveling, gutless man with terrible instincts, terrible work ethic and a foot perpetually in his mouth.” In season two, he failed on nearly all fronts: he got one-upped by his former whipping boy Greg, who successfully blackmailed him into a better position; he advocated the worst news slogan ever (“We Hear For You”), and made a fool of himself on C-Span at the hands of Gil Eavis. The only reason he wasn’t ousted from the company is because, in the words of Kendall, “he’s not a big enough skull.”

To top it all off, Tom’s recent marriage to Shiv is crumbling. She wants to sleep around, whereas he’s terrified by the idea of a threesome. In one of the most miserable couple’s beach getaways of all time, Tom wonders to Shiv if he would be less sad if he left her. “A lot of the time I think I’m really pretty unhappy,” he says.

Gregory Hirsch (Nicholas Braun)

AKA Greg the Egg, “you beautiful Ichabod Crane f-ck,” “you little Machiavellian f-ck,” Benign Fungus

Job title: ???

Braun has been the undeniable breakout star of Succession thanks to his portrayal of bumbling-yet-conniving Greg, the kind of guy stutters his way through his threats. (Unrelatedly, Braun’s “Do You Have the Antibodies” was unironically one of the best songs of 2020.) Since the first episode, Greg has been used as a pawn by the higher-ups in the family, and he leveraged each of those opportunities into bigger positions and paydays. He first blackmailed Kendall, who amusedly gave him an apartment and made him his courier and confidante; he then blackmailed Tom, who unsuccessfully tried to suppress the monster he had created.

At the end of last season, Greg chose to turn down a $250 million inheritance from his ornery grandfather in order to remain with Waystar—and then proceeded to side with Kendall in the coming civil war, giving him the incriminating documents that he was supposed to burn. Greg is taking a big risk here, siding with the renegade as opposed to the company line, and he will probably try to use his leverage to cut a deal to avoid any sort of consequences for his role in the cover up. His self-centered wiliness makes him one of the biggest wild cards going into next season.

Also, it shouldn’t be overlooked that Greg was responsible for one of the most eloquent one-liners in TV history: “If it is to be said, so it be… so it is.”

What about the rest?

Sandy and Stewy , two rival businessmen with shares in Waystar, are still in the midst of an effort to buy out the company and pressure shareholders to dispatch the Roys and give them full control. (An ever-important shareholder meeting looms.) Kendall is still smitten with Naomi Pierce , who is something like Kendall’s drug-loving counterpart of her own twisted media dynasty. Gerri Killman , the company’s General Counsel, is smart, strategic and respected by everyone in the family, especially Roman; she will play a crucial role in the company’s survival going forward. Marcia Roy , Logan’s wife, his currently separated from him following his dalliance with Rhea Jarrell , who walked away from the CEO job once she realized how disastrous the company’s situation was.

Who are the new arrivals?

Season two had a fantastic supporting guest cast (featuring Holly Hunter and Cherry Jones), and season three looks to be no different. Adrien Brody plays wealthy activist and investor Josh Aaronson; Alexander Skarsgård plays tech CEO Lukas Mattson; Sanaa Lathan plays high-powered lawyer Lisa Arthur.

On “Succession,” Everything Is Up in the Air

The trailer for this week’s episode of “ Succession ” promised another set-piece Roy wedding—this time that of Connor Roy, the eldest and oftenest-overlooked of Logan Roy’s four children, and his ever-blonder, ever more couture-clad bride-to-be, Willa. The setting: a yacht in New York Harbor decked with red-white-and-blue bunting, providing free media hoopla for Connor’s Presidential campaign, a one-per-cent bid in every sense of the term. The tricky confluence of timing: the shaky culmination of Logan’s deal with GoJo’s Lukas Matsson, which—thanks to the three younger Roy children seeking to squeeze more money out of the deal—Logan is now obliged to fly to Stockholm to secure. “Today’s the day,” Logan says in the trailer, as he boards the plane with Tom Wambsgans, his son-in-law and lieutenant of the moment. “Strategic refocus. Clean out the stalls. A bit more aggressive.”

Actually, that would be “a bit more fucking aggressive”—the opening moments of the episode, which broadcast on Sunday night, revealed that the line had been cleaned up for the promo. And those would be Logan’s final words—at least the last ones that viewers of “Succession” will hear him deliver. Fifteen-odd minutes into the episode, after the Roy offspring have gathered aboard the wedding boat, Tom calls the siblings: their father has been taken ill in the bathroom of the P.J. “It’s very, very bad,” Tom says. Logan is dying—or quite possibly has already died, but, without a medical professional present, who can say for sure?—at thirty thousand feet above the Eastern Seaboard.

When Jesse Armstrong, the show’s creator, admitted earlier this year that this season would be “Succession” ’s last, he reminded those who might want the show to unspool forever that “there’s a promise in the title”—somewhere along the line, in one way or another, Logan Roy was always going to surrender control of the company. The previous seasons showed Logan dangling the prize in front of each of his three younger children successively—Connor, of course, never got a look-in—before deciding to sell to Matsson, his heir of choice. Last week’s episode suggested that, rather than retiring to the golf course or some equivalent anteroom of mortality, Logan might build himself another empire within the newsroom of ATN. (“You’re fucking pirates!” Logan roared at his staff in the episode, all Henry V on St. Crispin’s Day.) Instead, mortality has made itself felt at the most inconvenient of moments. The deal with Matsson, like Logan’s plane, is up in the air; and the Roy siblings, as Connor’s love boat casts off from its East River pier, are literally unmoored.

Speaking on Friday, two days before the show’s airing, Armstrong acknowledged that, with seven episodes still to come, the timing of Logan’s death would likely be a shock to the audience. “I want the show to be organic and connected to reality,” he told me. “The business stuff that plays out across all the seasons is reflective of the real world—people who work in media and finance would recognize it as the shape of things that are happening, and a lot of the show is the playing out of the personal and bureaucratic dynamics within those structures. But that’s not all of life. Also, we get hit by unexpected events. So how do you make the authorial decision to make a thing happen?” He went on, “We once had a therapist jump into a swimming pool and break his teeth—that’s an unusual thing to happen that didn’t have to happen. And, on the bigger end, sometimes people die, and it’s a bit of a decision when that happens.”

Logan’s death does come as a surprise, as death so often does. But it’s also been intimated from the very first episode of the series, when, not long after his eightieth birthday, Logan experiences a brain hemorrhage while negotiating with his kids during a helicopter journey. There have been subsequent health scares: the funny turn he experienced while hiking around Josh Aaronson’s private island in the fourth episode of Season 3, followed, in the next episode , by a U.T.I.-induced bout of psychosis. The frailer Logan gets, the more fiercely he growls. Even the green juice supplied in a previous episode by Kerry, Logan’s “friend, assistant, and adviser,” is not enough to delay the boss’s scheduled appointment with the ultimate regulator in—as it were—the sky.

The heart of “Connor’s Wedding,” as the episode is titled, is a protracted phone call from airplane to yacht lounge. During the call, the Roy siblings learn, first, that their father has been stricken, then grow cognizant that he has been struck down. The scene ran for twenty or thirty pages, Armstrong explained, and the cast and crew filmed it at least once in a single take. “I was keen on doing it by phone call, because that’s so often how we get news, and people can be a bit adrift if you are in a different physical space from the drama of whatever is unfolding,” he said. The device allows Armstrong and his director, Mark Mylod, to dramatize the uncertainty: the viewer, like the Roy siblings, is kept at a distance from the crisis. Mylod refrains from depicting Logan’s final moments explicitly, and Armstrong’s script amplifies the way in which the experience of an intimate’s death is both utterly ordinary and entirely surreal: “The plane people are lovely, they’re good people. I think he’s—I think they’ve made him very comfortable” is how Tom characterizes the already expired Logan to his children. Each of the three younger Roys gets a harrowing moment with the phone held up to their insentient father’s ear—an opportunity to speak their own final words to the man who is undertaking this transatlantic journey only because the three of them have essentially forced him to do it. The possibility that one sibling or another will push their father to a physical breaking point has been an oft-repeated theme in the show. Finally, they’ve all done it, together.

Killing Logan off in Episode 3 came at one substantial cost: the loss of Brian Cox as a central character for the remainder of the series. “That was my one regret about doing it, the slightly personal feeling of him not being there all through the journey,” Armstrong said. “Though, as you’ll see in later episodes, his presence is sort of felt throughout the season.” But, Armstrong explained, the death had to come now in order to make it feel organic. “Part of making it embedded in the show was not putting it at Episode 9, because then we’re creating a narrative whereby death is somehow the thing that happens as the bitter cherry on the cake of the show, and I think that wouldn’t be quite right, because that’s not how the shape of life is,” he said.

One of Armstrong’s guiding observations while creating “Succession” has been to note how quickly individuals adapt even to dramatically changed circumstances. (The table read for the pilot was held on the day of the Presidential election in 2016, followed in the evening by what was expected to be a celebratory gathering. The election result was, Armstrong told me for a Profile , in 2021, “such a shock—then five, ten minutes later, everyone’s living in a new reality . . . quite oriented towards how it affects them, and what they will do next.”) The children’s individual, immediate reactions to the reality of their father’s death are distinct and unpredictable, as children’s reactions to a parent’s death so often are. Shiv’s tough carapace dissolves at first: she whimpers with pain as she registers that her brothers failed to get her to the phone fast enough. But when she is asked, after Logan’s plane lands at Teterboro Airport, whether she wants to see the body, she declines. “He’s not going to get angry if we don’t,” she says, her face a mask of anguish. Roman, too, reverts to childishness, sitting on the floor of the yacht’s lounge rather than taking an armchair. Before he, alone of the siblings, goes to see Logan’s body on the jet, he removes the jacket, which, in the course of the show’s several seasons, he has started to wear as the costume of adulthood. By the time he descends the plane’s staircase, following the E.M.T.s who bear the lumpish, blanket-swaddled form of his father’s corpse strapped to a gurney, Roman has lost the jacket entirely, and is back in his vulnerable shirtsleeves.

Connor, whose wedding has been royally fucked, blurts out his own painful truth: “Oh, man, he never even liked me.” Then he goes ahead with his vows to the woman who is honest enough to admit when pushed that, yes, “there is something about money and safety” as her reason for marrying him. Meanwhile, Kendall—who is better acquainted with death than any of his siblings, having caused the drowning of a waiter at the end of the first season, and by nearly drowning himself toward the end of the third—shows an instinct for self-interest that is, in the end, as Logan-like as anything he has ever done. “What we do today will always be what we did the day our father died,” Kendall tells Shiv and Roman. “So let’s grieve and whatever, but not do anything that restricts our future freedom of movement.” A bit more fucking aggressive indeed. ♦

Everywhere Succession Season 3 Was Filmed

From New York City’s famed Plaza Hotel to a 13-bedroom, 17th century Tuscan villa.

Shakespearean-level drama demands an equally tremendous setting, and Succession has certainly provided an opulent backdrop for its corporate, familial warfare. Across three seasons, the Roys have traveled around in Learjets, gone yachting in the Mediterranean, and held court over extravagant lobster lunches. Season 3 continues to serve up magnificent views alongside high-powered backstabbing, visiting lavish New York City hotels and sprawling beach mansions before setting off for Italy later on. Here’s everywhere the series filmed to bring its sumptuous world to life in Season 3.

New York City, New York

The central playground for Succession is New York City, with locations across Manhattan, Queens, and Long Island providing interior and exterior shots throughout the show. For instance, the Waystar RoyCo headquarters are located in the Financial District of Manhattan, while production uses venues like the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel, The Plaza, and the New York Marriott Marquis as settings for lavish galas and parties. According to The Cinemaholic, other spots around the city featured in Season 3 include The Foundation Building, CBS Broadcast Center, and The Shed, a cultural center in Hudson Yards. Condé Nast Traveller reports that filming also took place at the famed Plaza Hotel on fifth avenue, including scenes in the Palm Court, Terrace Room, and Grand Ballroom.

Suffolk County, New York

Season 3, in particular, filmed in Suffolk County on the eastern end of Long Island, primarily in Wainscott and Montauk and on the beaches of Shadmoor State Park and Kirk Park. The notable scene in Season 3, Episode 4 in which Josh Aronson — a Waystar investor played by Adrien Brody — welcomes Logan (Brian Cox) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) to his beachside estate was filmed in Montauk. The house was one of four properties considered by the production team, who looked for a location that felt isolated and private. “One of the nice things about this property is that once you get out onto the pool deck, you sense that there might not be too many other buildings close by,” production designer Stephen Carter told Architectural Digest. They also liked that the space had high windows.

“That was one of the most impressive things about the living room,” Carter said. “You’ve got these great views out toward the beach. You have great light coming in. One of the things we try to do on the show is to create [the suggestion of] wealth through an abundance of space, light, and [ceiling] height in every situation.”

Richmond, Virgina

According to Cinemaholic, parts of Season 3 were filmed at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Virginia. The outlet reports that production shot throughout multiple parts of the city. However, it’s unclear if the Roys will actually head to Virginia or if these shots will serve as a stand-in for a different location.

Tuscany, Italy

In Season 2, the Roys went yachting around Croatia. In Season 3, they’ll head abroad again — this time to Italy, where they’ll take up residence at an extravagant 13-bedroom, 17th century Tuscan villa. Per the Cinemaholic, these scenes were filmed at the Villa Cetinale , a Roman Baroque-style mansion in the Ancaiano district near Siena, Italy. According to the villa’s website, it was built in 1680 by Cardinal Flavio Chigi for Pope Alexander VII, and its gardens are renowned as some of the most beautiful in Italy.

Other filming locations in Italy include Florence, Val d’Orcia, Bagno Vignoni, Chianciano Terme, Montalcino, Argiano, and the ancient town of Cortona. Per Condé Nast Traveller, viewers will see Shiv and Tom touring the bathing pool in the spa village of Bagno Vignoni, and the Roys dining at the La Terrazza Del Chiostro , a popular restaurant in the town of Pienza. There’s also a visit to another spa town: Villa La Foce in Chianciano Terme.

For Succession showrunner Jesse Armstrong, a British screenwriter, setting the final episodes of Season 3 in Tuscany was a deliberate nod to the Roys’ extreme level of wealth. “I don’t know how much of a social signifier it is to Americans — anybody who can go abroad is really rich — but [Tuscany] has this particular flavor for the English upper class,” he told Vulture. “Some call it Chiantishire in a slightly sickening way.”

With key art featuring the tagline “Make Your Move,” HBO announced on Monday that the long-awaited third season of “ Succession ” will premiere on Oct. 17. That’s close to the two-year anniversary — Oct. 13, 2019 — of the airdate for the Season 2 finale. Production on the third season of “Succession,” from creator Jesse Armstrong, was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and began in New York City last November.

HBO also sent out the official logline for the upcoming season: “Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season two, Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a perilous position, scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances. Tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war.”

As fans of “Succession” may know from the press that’s preceded the third season , the show’s action will pick up where it left off, after Kendall (Jeremy Strong) stabbed his father, Logan (Brian Cox), in the back at a press conference at which he was supposed to take the fall for Waystar Royco’s misdeeds. “This is the day his reign ends,” Kendall said to the attendees of the press conference. Logan, watching from a yacht in the Mediterranean, wore a Mona Lisa smile as he watched Kendall attempt to oust him (again). (The cast of “Succession” broke down that scene, and three others, in a Variety Streaming Room in June 2020 .)

HBO sent out a teaser for the upcoming season in July , which not only included a preview of the infighting among the Roys, but also plenty of the show’s meme-able moments, like Shiv (Sarah Snook) spitting into a book .

“Succession” has become HBO’s marquee drama in its post-“Game of Thrones” era. At last year’s Emmys, it won seven awards for its second season, including the top prize for outstanding drama.

The Season 3 cast consists of Cox, Strong, Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Nicholas Braun, Matthew Macfadyen, Peter Friedman, J. Smith-Cameron, Dagmara Dominczyk, Justine Lupe, David Rasche, Fisher Stevens, Hiam Abbass, Arian Moayed, Harriet Walter, James Cromwell, Natalie Gold, Juliana Canfield, Annabelle Dexter-Jones, Zoë Winters and Jeannie Berlin return. Alexander Skarsgård, Sanaa Lathan, Linda Emond, Jihae, Adrien Brody, Hope Davis and Dasha Nekrasova join the cast this season.

And on Friday, HBO released the Season 3 trailer, which includes new plot details about the fight for Waystar Royco, as well as first looks at Skarsgård, Brody and Davis.

“Succession” is created and executive produced by Armstrong, and is executive produced by Adam McKay, Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Jane Tranter, Mark Mylod, Tony Roche, Scott Ferguson, Jon Brown, Lucy Prebble, Will Tracy and Will Ferrell. Armstrong serves as its showrunner.

Succession recap: season four, episode three – a gut-punch episode is one of the show’s finest

Gamechanging and heartbreaking in equal measure, this week’s instalment shakes up the status quo for the rest of the season

Not quite a red wedding but certainly a black one. Here’s the order of service from the devastating third episode, titled Connor’s Wedding …

Spoiler alert: this recap is for people watching Succession season four. Don’t read on unless you’ve watched episode three.

‘This is not the end ’

Well, we knew it was probably coming – the clue is right there in the show’s title – but not this soon. This gamechanging episode began with billionaire silverback Logan Roy (Brian Cox) seemingly in rude health. As he boarded a private jet to Stockholm for face-to-face negotiations with mercurial tech mogul Lukas Mattson (Alexander Skarsgård) over the impending sale of Waystar Royco, “Loganus Maximus, slayer of Vikings” barked instructions. Time to “clean out the stalls, strategic refocus, a bit more fucking aggressive”. He’s often at his most dynamic under pressure.

Or so it appears – until 18 minutes into the episode, when son Roman (Kieran Culkin) answers the phone to the “fucky-sucky brigade”. Logan had suffered breathing problems and promptly collapsed in the plane bathroom – an echo of his stroke aboard a “whirlybird” in season one. Chest compressions were being desperately administered. Daughter Shiv (Sarah Snook) had been ignoring calls from estranged husband Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen).

Tom placed his mobile phone by Logan’s ear and told the siblings to speak to their father, in case it was their last chance. Was it just me, or did you momentarily suspect some kind of sicko bluff? Tragically, it was all too real.

The Gerroman dream died too

Logan hadn’t wanted longtime legal counsel Gerri Kellman (J. Smith Cameron) at the Matsson meeting, and we learned why. While Logan ousted Cyd Peach (Jeannie Berlin), veteran boss of Fox News-alike channel ATN, Roman had to fire Gerri – secretly planning to let her retrospectively take the fall for the cruise division scandal. “You push Cyd, Roman knifes Gerri, all in a day’s work,” crowed Tom.

Romulus was so reluctant, it was cringe-inducing. He contorted his body into awkward shapes and couldn’t make eye contact with his former mentor-cum-dominatrix, babbling about her slow work on the DoJ investigation and losing Logan’s confidence. “I danced us through a thunderstorm without us getting wet,” she replied, eyes blazing. Roman sending her “repeated images of your genitalia” hadn’t helped. Roman promised a generous payoff. Simmering with fury but forever the pro, Gerri coldly closed him down.

He phoned Logan to tell him the deed was done, but left a message dripping with self-loathing: “That was horrible. You can’t expect me to keep bending over. Are you just being shitty with me? That’s the question, are you a cunt? OK, give me a buzz.” Not the ideal parting voicemail.

Logan’s run was over

In those deathbed calls, little-lost-boy Rome whispered: “You’re going to be OK because you’re a monster and you always win. You’re a good man and a good dad. You did a good job.” Kendall (Jeremy Strong) said: “I can’t forgive you but it’s OK and I love you.” Shiv struck a similar note: “Daddy, don’t go please. Not now. No excuses for the [betrayal] but it’s OK, I love you.” Some truly top-tier acting from the siblings during these scenes. Start polishing those 2024 Primetime Emmys.

The entire ensemble’s reactions to the news were revealing. Kendall requested “the best heart doctor in the world” and demanded to speak to the pilot. Roman was in denial, even when Logan was long gone. Shiv fleetingly hoped it was their mother who’d carked it and needed Advil for a stress headache. Connor (Alan Ruck) poignantly muttered: “I never got a chance to make him proud.”

Tom’s venal facade briefly melted away to reveal a human interior – until once again, we soon saw how scheming he is. He sent cousin Greg (Nicholas Braun) straight to the ATN offices to delete incriminating computer files and stick tightly to Cyd. Tom lamented that he’d “lost his protector” but immediately wanted word put out that he’d been with Logan when he died.

Meanwhile, Logan’s “friend, assistant and adviser” Kerry (Zoe Winters) had a weird rictus grin and was immediately dubbed “Chuckles the Clown”. Logan had spoken to her during his last moments. What was said could prove pivotal. No wonder CFO Karl (David Rasche) reached for a “stiffener”.

Forget bridezilla, meet groomzilla

Leonard Cohen fan Connor dreamed of marrying beneath the Statue Of Liberty with attendant “razzmatazz”. His naff fantasy nearly came true. As a brass band played on the dockside, wedding guests entered through patriotic red, white and blue balloons and boarded a yacht to Ellis Island. The press were invited to revive Connor’s presidential bid. Logan had been set to miss the nuptials anyway, but he’d bought Napoleon obsessive Connor some letters between the power-crazed Corsican and Empress Joséphine. A sort of antique equivalent of the most expensive item on a John Lewis gift list.

Remember Connor micro-managing bread rolls at season one’s gala dinner? Now he fixated on cake, telling the wedding planners it was “inadequate”, for “display only, not for serving” because he didn’t want to see its “internal qualities”. Heartbreakingly, we heard that when his mother had been committed to a mental care facility, Logan gave young Connor cake to calm him down. He ate it for “a week straight”. Victoria Sponge was henceforth known as “loony cake”. Oh, Con.

He asked bride-to-be Willa (Justine Lupe) if she was merely with him for money. Well, duh. Willa sweetly reassured him that financial security was a factor but she was happy too. Should they cancel the ceremony or “could something good come out of something bad”? A closing shot showed them tying the knot as the few remaining guests applauded. A bright spot amid the darkness. Till death do us part.

‘Reagan’s funeral with tweaks ’

This was essentially two chamber pieces – one up in the air, the other adrift on water. With his body mere metres away, Logan’s lieutenants mobilised to formulate a corporate response. Jockeying for position immediately commenced. “It’s important we’re mentioned by name,” the top team insisted. As PR chief Karolina (Dagmara Domińczyk) pieced together timelines and drew up a contact list (“the board, POTUS”), COO Frank (Peter Friedman) told the Rebel Alliance: “It’s a material event so we need to reassure the market.” When Karl suggested the family were “estranged”, Kendall bridled and denied that was the case.

Back on the ground, he began to take charge. Shiv suggested keeping the plane circling while they hatched business plans. Kendall wisely pointed out this could be perceived as cold-hearted. How they behaved was vital for the official record and their future prospects. Reporters were already circling (courtesy of Greg’s Tom-approved leak). They needed to make the statement themselves, signalling family continuity. Shiv duly told the media “we intend to shepherd the company through whatever its future may be”.

As the stock price nosedived, Ken and Roman swore at one another in a bittersweet bid to reassert normality. Shiv declined to see her father’s bodybag taken off the plane (“he’s not gonna get angry if we don’t”) and returned to Tom’s embrace. Roman rolled up his shirtsleeves and bit the bullet, still fretting about Gerri and that final voicemail. Kendall watched from a distance in the gathering gloom. The siblings seemed united and mutually supportive, but we face the prospect of seven Logan-free episodes. The game is afoot. Again.

The heir apparent

Your guess is as good as mine after the succession battle was thrown wide open again. Kendall seemed to take the lead. Shiv made the public statement. Roman was the one with Logan’s ear. Anyone? Anyone?

Line of the week

It can only be Shiv’s momentous press statement: “My father, Logan Roy, was pronounced dead on arrival at Teterboro Airport … My brothers and I want to say that Logan Roy built a great American family company … This nation lost a passionate champion and an American titan. We lost a beloved father.”

Notes and observations

Spare a thought for poor bodyguard Colin (Scott Nicholson), last seen looking shellshocked beside Logan’s limo. His “best pal” and meal ticket just turned up his toes.

Did Logan have an intimation of his waning health – hence his afterlife musings and uncharacteristic declarations of love? Did Jesse Armstrong know this episode would air at Easter?

Even at a family wedding, wealth hierarchies remained rigidly in place, with colour-coded invitations and VIP areas. Tom trusted the aircrew, the Roys definitely didn’t.

This gut-punch episode was written by showrunner Armstrong and directed by Mark Mylod – the dream team behind 11 of Succession’s 31 episodes so far. Nicholas Britell’s elegiac score was beautiful too.

‘Succession’ Recap: Killer Kendall Makes His Move

Many of the past 735 days have been distressing and interminable for a variety of reasons, but today—at the very least—one of those reasons doesn’t apply because Succession is back, baby! No longer will we need to subsist on yet another rewatch, paparazzi shots from set, and dubious accounts of Nicholas Braun’s love life on DeuxMoi. The Roys have returned, and they haven’t gone too far from where we left them.

Action in the third season picks up in the moments after Kendall’s very public come to Jesus moment. His motivation for the sudden and surprising turn quickly begins a small debate within the episode. Naomi Pierce, one of the first people Ken talks to post-announcement, sees it as altruism. Logan, before threatening to grind Kendall’s bone to make his bread (via Jess), sees it simply as a move. And, as a move, it’s respectable. Ken’s finally acting like the killer that Logan swore in the season two finale he never was, but let’s call this whole thing off, huh? Please?

But what about for Kendall Roy, himself? Was it for the good of the world, Rava and his kids, or was it just a move? The answer is simply yes . Kendall, as a deeply insecure person, has always been a servant to many different masters—the various not always healthy ways one can earn love and acceptance. So, for him, this is a one-size-fits-all maneuver of strategic genius. It’s a selfless act of vigilante truthtelling, a strike against an abusive, all-powerful corporation, which will continue to exist after all of this, without taking any major monetary or legal hit with Kendall—unscathed—at the head.

Also his dad hated it, but maybe totally kind of respected the hell out of it.

It’s perfect.

Leave it to Karolina to make things relatively simple. Kendall hasn’t just attacked his dad, but the corporation he hopes to lead. Apt, but enough to get her kicked out of the SUV. That winnows Team Kendall down to Jess and Greg, who’s monitoring social and telling the press “No comment.” But with calls out to both Frank and Shiv (an interesting detail to consider after her meeting with Lisa Arthur), the rosters on both sides are pretty much guaranteed to change. If the season three poster signifies anything, Tom is another possible draftee to Team Kendall, but that remains to be seen. Siding with Kendall could be a way to dodge his very hands-on involvement in the cruises coverup.

This might be the worst iteration of Kendall Roy. And I mean worst as in the nadir of his personal character and standing in the world, not his quality as a character on television, which is outstanding. He thinks he could come out of this as a hero, possibly with the Pope as a follower on Twitter. All it’s going to take now is the right tweets from the Bojack guys or some dudes from The Harvard Lampoon , right? The real question is whether he can effectively play holy avenger when his dad still holds a card that says “Kendall killed a kid.”

Also, no comment.

This, of course, is happening while the rest of the Roys (and Gerri and Frank and Karl and Hugo) are on the other side of the world, fresh from the yacht and camped out at an airport. No one knows for sure what amount of shit Kendall has actually managed to stir up (or they don’t want to admit it), and Logan going slightly comatose isn’t helping. Gerri says he was talking about mom a lot. This is on top of firing Frank and Karl, then promoting Gerri, rehiring Frank, and demoting Gerri. He seems to be about as shook as Logan Roy can get, and once he learns from Ken (via Jess) that this is a real fight, everyone on his end assumes battle stations.

Roman comes hot out of the gate suggesting that Logan chop Kendall up into a million pieces and toss him in the Hudson. And while Shiv assures everyone that she does, in fact, eat red meat, she wants them to consider that there could be some serious repercussions. The attack from Kendall isn’t the only front their fighting on. The threats from Congress, the FBI, the SEC, class-action suits, and Sandy & Stewy are still alive, so Logan wants to know exactly how aggressive he can be in this battle. But he’s not settling for a chat with a measly attorney general. He wants the raisin, a.k.a. the leader of the free the world.

And no local foods!

Alas, the signal from the White House is not good, but Gerri does manage to get something out of it for herself. While the president feels for Logan and the AG has nothing but respect for the media giant, the problem seems to be the Deputy Attorney General. Gerri’s suggestion to fire her only wins them the legal cover of a forced laugh from the White House rep, but it might be the move that secures Gerri the interim CEO position later in the episode—after some major mistakes by Roman and Shiv, of course.

With protection from the White House mostly off the table, it’s time for some international travel! Ideally somewhere lacking an extradition treaty with the US. So Logan, Karl, Frank, and Tom are off to scenic Sarajevo, while Shiv, Roman, and Gerri head stateside. And no, there’s nothing for Tom and Shiv to discuss about their marriage (a.k.a. the open-borders, free-fuck trade deal) before they part, why? It’s not like the line “I wonder if the sad I’d be without you would be less than the sad I get from being with you” has been reverberating in my tattered heart for the last 735 days.

The most devastating part of this parting, however, is the decision to leave Connor and Willa behind to hold down the fort in the Balkans and do whatever that means. While I do hope they’re not out of the action for too long, it’s heartening to hear that Con has a new hate-watch-focused marketing approach for Willa’s play. I, for one, cannot wait to hop onto the iron-o-cycle!

You know who might agree that Righteous Kendall is the worst Kendall? Rava and that bottle of wine that her godfather gave her. That honestly hurt to watch. And while it was Greg who pulled the cork and Naomi who told him to, Kendall gets the blame for thinking that his press conference (which Rava deliciously did not watch!) was a noble enough act to buy his way back into his ex’s good graces. He says that the turn against Logan was for his family. Rava (with her pitch-perfect “Yeah, well…”) thinks otherwise.

While Kendall terrorizes Rava during meetings with consultants and lawyers, Logan sets about mitigating what Karl has so helpfully dubbed “the full Baskin Robbins: 31 flavors of fuck.” The mounting pressure has forced a discussion of finding an interim CEO, also known as succession.

Thus, the show’s macro premise plays out in micro during the back half of the episode. Who will fill in for Logan during the months (and possibly years) that this scandal takes him out? Karl would just like to note that he thinks he’s good for it, but it really comes down to Shiv, Roman and Gerri. And from those three, it’s really just a process of elimination.

Roman’s failure can ultimately be boiled down to a “but.” His call to Logan to assert that he wants it, that he’s ready, and that it’s his time goes pretty well until that regrettable turn into second guessing. His hedging may have less to do with his own self-doubt and more to do with his alliance with Gerri, but either way, it’s enough indecision to take him out of the running.

It’s not going to be Shiv either, despite some impressive fingering from Tom on the reverse banjo. Superficially, the decision to snub Shiv seems tied to her failure to recruit Lisa Arthur to Logan’s defense. But the puppet formerly known as Kendall Roy got to her first, and Logan only learns about that after making his decision on Gerri. And, really, was it ever going to be Shiv? Really? Didn’t she decide this all for herself back at the dinner table with the Pearces? And even then? Wasn’t that always just a ploy by Logan to pull her away from Gil? Come on.

Which leaves Gerri, an outcome that should delight all the J. Smith-Cameron fans of the world… or, you know, people with good taste. Her proximity to Roman—while it’s not as close as he might want it to be—does put him at the right hand of power, but who’s to say how much power she’ll have at all? What’s clear, especially from the slightly ambiguous ending (is Logan mentally all there?), is that Kendall has managed to land a serious blow against his dad.

But then again, he has never faced off against the “full fucking beast.”

Man, it’s good to have this show back! Now, if I’m reading this schedule correctly, there are only seven days until the next new episode of Succession .

That’s right: seven. Without two zeroes after it.

Succession Season 3 - What We Know So Far

Ever since Succession joined the HBO family of original shows in the summer of 2018, audiences have flocked to this dark, sharply funny show centered around a wealthy family's machinations to stay at the top. After its debut season snagged a writing Emmy in 2019 — a particularly notable surprise, considering Succession 's first season directly competed with the final season of HBO darling Game of Thrones — its audience grew even more for its explosive, engrossing second season, and it's easy to understand why.

Succession centers on the uber-rich Roy family (which, creator Jesse Armtrong notes, isn't not based on the Murdoch media clan ), who control Waystar Royco, a giant global media empire. As the series opens, patriarch Logan Roy (celebrated actor Brian Cox), in an homage to Shakespeare's King Lear , seems as if he's finally ready to hand Waystar Royco's reins to one of his power-hungry and conniving children. However, as Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Siobhan, or "Shiv," (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Connor (Alan Ruck) ready themselves to compete for their father's job, Logan makes the most shocking announcement: he's staying on as CEO.

As Logan's health and mental capabilities enter shaky ground throughout both seasons, his children — and their spouses, including Matthew Macfayden's hilariously inept Tom Wambsgans — vy for his seat, which gives Succession the perfect mix of hilarious moments and somber emotional beats. On the heels of Succession 's success at the 2020 Emmy Awards, where it took home its first statue for Outstanding Drama Series, fans are wondering when they can see a third season... and hopefully, it will arrive on HBO sooner rather than later. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming third season of Succession .

When will Succession return for season 3?

The good news for Succession fans is that even before the series won a whopping seven Emmys in late 2020, it was renewed for a third season just two episodes into its sophomore season. However, there's a catch; unfortunately, Succession didn't start filming its third season before the COVID-19 crisis shut down most film and television sets, so its third season, while written, is unfinished.

However, in August of 2020, showrunner Jesse Armstrong delivered some good news to Variety . As Armstrong told the outlet, the show was, at the time, "trying to think about starting shooting in New York before Christmas [...] Who knows if that'll come about, but that's the plan at the moment." Cox echoed Armstrong just one month later, telling the Express that season three was "ready to go." There's no official word just yet if Succession has resumed filming, but it's exciting to know that the cast and crew are eying their return to set.

Who will appear in Succession season 3?

Because Succession 's third season was already greenlit and written by the time COVID-19 shuttered its set, audiences already know that its acclaimed cast will return once again. This time, however, pretty much all of Succession 's leading players will arrive on set as newly minted Emmy nominees thanks to their work in the series, and one of them even took home the top prize in his category.

On September 20, 2020, Succession won seven Emmy Awards, and beyond Outstanding Drama, it picked up statues for editing, casting, guest actress for Cherry Jones, directing, and writing. On top of that, Jeremy Strong, who plays the beleaguered Kendall Roy, won his first Emmy after beating out a crowded category — which included his on-screen father Brian Cox — to win Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

Meanwhile, his on-screen siblings Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, along with supporting players Matthew Macfayden and Nicholas Braun, earned nominations for their performances. Succession 's cast is excellent from the leading players to its guest roles, and there's no doubt that this outstanding cast will wow audiences with their performances in the show's third season.

Is there a trailer for Succession season 3?

Sadly, because Succession hasn't resumed filming as of this writing, there's no new footage for a trailer or even a teaser for the newest season of this buzzy, beloved show. Hopefully, the cast and crew will be able to safely return to the Roy family's insanely opulent world sometime soon, but until they do, a new trailer doesn't seem particularly likely.

However, based on when Succession 's previous trailers dropped — and when those seasons started filming — it might be possible to craft a very tentative timeline. Succession 's first season started production in October 2017 in New York City (before moving to New Mexico), and the first official teaser and trailer popped up on YouTube in March and April of 2018, respectively. For its second season, production resumed in the spring of 2019 with a detour to Croatia for the finale, and the second season trailer arrived in July of 2019. If Succession does start filming around Christmas, like Armstrong hopes, we could see a trailer by the spring of 2021.

What could happen in Succession season 3?

The first two seasons of Succession are a non-stop thrill ride of backstabbing, betrayal, manipulation, and family drama — and based on the ending of season two, it shows no signs of slowing down. On the heels of a fraught family yacht trip where Logan tries to decide which member of the Roy clan will take the fall for a scandal related to their cruise line, Kendall, desperate for his father's attention, throws his hat into the ring to run Waystar Royco once again. After Logan tells his son that he's not a "killer" and will have to take the blame, Kendall finally turns on his father, revealing to the press that Logan knew everything about Waystar Royco's misconduct and looked the other way.

With Kendall and Logan officially at war, it remains to be seen whether Shiv, Roman, and Connor will back their brother or join their father to win his approval. In the end, no matter what happens to the Roy family in their third season, fans know it'll be a dark, hilarious, and ultimately delightful ride.

'Succession' Season 3 Recap: What to Remember Ahead of Season 4

"Nothing's more dangerous than a second-rate individual who sees his chance."

Succession 's third season picked up right where its second season ended, with Kendall ( Jeremy Strong ) surprisingly deviating from his prepared press-conference script and instead outing his father Logan ( Brian Cox ) for the company's rape and cover-up scandals. Kendall reveals that his father has always been fully aware of the misconduct and oversaw the surrounding legal settlements himself. With Kendall now on an adrenaline high, and back to his ambitious self, he along with Cousin Greg ( Nicholas Braun ) and Karolina ( Dagmara Domińczyk ) enter a car heading for Waystar. Karolina, however, is conflicted over Kendall's decisions and exits the vehicle.

In the aftermath of Kendall's allegations, Logan splits his inner circle into two teams. Roman ( Kieran Culkin ), Gerri ( J. Smith-Cameron ), and Shiv ( Sarah Snook ) are sent back to New York as one team. Karl ( David Rasche ), Frank ( Peter Friedman ), and Hugo ( Fisher Stevens ) are to join Logan in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina since the country has no extradition treaty with the U.S. Logan also keeps Tom ( Matthew Macfadyen ) close, and when Logan brainstorms who should be CEO of Waystar Royco, Tom doesn't push for his wife Shiv to get the position. When Shiv fails to convince Lisa Arthur ( Sanaa Lathan ) to legally represent Logan, he points Gerri as CEO interim. Star attorney Lisa then turns up at Kendall's ex-wife's house where Kendall has set up a "war room" away from the press. Kendall's intimidation tactics mean word of this gets back to Logan, who is furious.

No One Knows Whether to Side with Logan or Kendall

Greg is conflicted by the situation, having fallen into Kendall's team inadvertently. When Shiv turns up at Kendall's, Greg calls Tom to warn him. Tom pretends to know, brushing it off, then calls Shiv himself. Shiv then lies, telling him that she's home. Tom's distrust of Shiv now grows. Shiv is on the fence now, having been denied the CEO role by her father, but still hoping to talk Kendall down somewhat. Both Roman and Connor ( Alan Ruck ) also arrive at Kendall's despite their misaligned intentions and ideals. Humoring the idea of a sibling team-up, Kendall pitches to Stewy ( Arian Moayed ) that together they can push Logan out. Shiv mentions the idea to Tom and Roman discusses it with Gerri too, who tells Roman that yes, it would work in ruining Logan, but it would likely burn them too.

Greg is approached by his grandfather, and Logan's brother, Ewan ( James Cromwell ). Ewan supports Greg's need to separate himself from either side and get his own lawyer to protect his own interests. When they visit Ewan's lawyer, though, the men seem to want to use Greg to further investigate and expose the corruption within Waystar. Now unsure whether even Ewan has Greg's best interests in mind, Greg eventually takes a meeting with Logan who tells him to think about what he wants and come back to him with an answer.

Marcia ( Haim Abbass ) offers to return to Logan's side and play the part of supporting wife again under some conditions, namely that both she and her children are financially cared for. When Logan returns to the country, he asks Shiv to be President. Although she sees this as more of a mascot role than a leadership role, Logan makes Shiv feel special by asking her to be his eyes and ears, watching Gerri. He previously made a similar request to Roman too. Tom seriously fears going to prison in light of the scandal. He tells Shiv he considers facing it head-on as a martyr for Logan's cause, and although she reassures him that it won't come to that, she likes the idea of that show of faith; to prove Tom's loyalty towards Logan and earn themselves some brownie points. Tom does so Logan appreciates it.

Kendall Sabotages Shiv with a Nirvana Song

While Waystar is playing host to the town hall, headed by Shiv, Kendall decides to turn up at Waystar, since it is still his place of work. The building goes into panic stations, unable to prevent him from entering. Hoping to avoid a PR disaster, they are unable to fire Kendall and hope to convince him to step down. During Shiv's speech, she is drowned out by Nirvana's "Rape Me" blasted over the stereo by Kendall.

Having now made an enemy of Shiv, she drafts a letter calling Kendall an unreliable source with a history of drug abuse and poor relationships with women. Connor and Roman refuse to sign it, so Shiv goes it alone. Deeply horrified by the rogue publication of the letter, Kendall breaks down, pulling out of a TV appearance, so the program has no choice but to fill the airtime by reading out the letter for context. The only thing able to cheer Kendall up after this is the news that the FBI has raided Waystar Royco.

Shareholders Get Nervous After the FBI Raid

The FBI raid does not bode well for the shareholders, so Josh Aaronson ( Adrien Brody ) asks for a meeting with both Kendall and Logan. Eventually, they both agree to meet Josh at his private island home. Logan urges Josh to sit tight, promising to make him rich. Josh disagrees. He tells them that unless they can work together, the situation will need to be reconsidered, to which Logan delivers a heartfelt speech about his love and admiration for Kendall. He tells Josh that Kendall is the best of them, harking back to Logan's wry smile in the season 2 finale when Kendall outsmarted him. Logan's team needs Josh's vote in the upcoming shareholders' meeting, but it's hard to tell which way Josh is leaning. On the walk back, Logan is unwell and needs to sit down.

In an attempt to avoid the shareholder meeting altogether, Logan's legal team is attempting to come up with a deal. Logan is unhappy with everything they suggest, though, turning down the deal. It turns out that Logan is experiencing some mental haze as a result of his UTI, and the team wonder whether he was in the right mind to have made such a drastic decision. Shiv goes behind Logan's back to accept the deal with Sandy's daughter Sandi ( Hope Davis ), offering Sandi an extra seat on the board. As a result, no shareholder vote needs to take place. Kendall still takes the stage regardless, listing the names of the company's victims and announcing a foundation in their name. Logan blocks Kendall's phone number, and when Tom helps Logan in his confused and unwell state, Logan calls Tom "son".

Tom's Allegiance Is the Season's Big Mystery

With the company now fully cooperating with the Department of Justice, Kendall feels his side has less of a clear "good-guy" narrative than before. He then arranges to meet secretly with Tom at a diner, offering him a way out of going to prison. If Tom joins him, he will be able to place the blame on someone else higher up. Kendall tries to manipulate him by asking whether he thinks Shiv would wait for him to get out of prison, knowing full well she has not been faithful to her husband. Tom leaves to think about it and Kendall snaps a photo so that he has proof that they met to use against him if needs be.

At an elite private function that essentially sees the upper class select the country's next president, Shiv reluctantly follows Logan's orders to be photographed with xenophobic candidate Jeryd Mencken ( Justin Kirk ) who Logan has decided to back despite Shiv's protests. Needless to say, Connor's campaign is a non-starter. Furious that Greg has decided to no longer be represented by his lawyer, Ewan arranges for Greg's multi-million-dollar inheritance instead to be left to Greenpeace. This sparks a hilarious lawsuit in which Greg proudly sues the major environmental charity.

The Family Drifts Further Apart Than Ever Before

It's Kendall's birthday, and he receives a card from Logan that reads "cash out and fuck off", with an offer to buy his shares for $2 billion. He throws an enormous party where he plans on singing onstage, but when his ex-wife informs him that his children have left him a present, he panics, unable to find it, confiding in his girlfriend Naomi ( Annabelle Dexter-Jones ) that he has not been prioritizing his life correctly. Logan is also interested in buying the company of tech mogul Lukas Matsson ( Alexander Skarsgård ) who speaks with Roman. Roman arranges a meeting between the three of them. Roman then attends Kendall's party where he berates Shiv, saying that the men have made all the moves without her help.

Kendall, Roman, and Shiv's mother, Lady Caroline Collingwood ( Harriet Walter ) is remarrying, this time to Peter Munion ( Pip Torrens ). Peter has a history of bankruptcy and failed marriages, so Roman wants his mother to arrange a prenup. Gerri has also moved on, seeing someone else, so she asks Roman to stop sending her nude photos of himself. Later, Roman accidentally sends a dick-pic to Logan, intending it for Gerri. Logan calls him a sicko and considers firing Gerri, which Roman reminds him would not look good PR-wise. Connor proposes to his escort-turned-girlfriend Willa ( Justine Lupe ) who says she needs to think about it. Eventually, she gives in and agrees to marry Connor.

During roleplay, Shiv tells Tom that he's not good enough for her, and Tom admits to feeling uncomfortable afterward. Shiv flippantly shrugs it off, invalidating his insecurities in light of her revealing remarks. Kendall sits down with Logan and agrees to the $2 billion buy-out, but Logan reminds Kendall of his manslaughter from the Season 1 finale, reminding Kendall of the power he still wields over him in spite of this. Later, Kendall falls asleep on an inflatable in the pool, nearly killing himself.

The Roy Family Splinters Even Further in the Finale

Kendall is revealed to be alive, having been treated overnight in the hospital. He says he doesn't want to make a big deal of the event, but later, his three siblings sit with him for an informal intervention. There is still and always has been support for his wellbeing among them. Gerri informs them that the company is facing an enormous fine from the D.O.J. and that Lukas Matsson's tech company is overtaking Waystar's, so Logan takes Roman with him to meet Matsson (sidelining Shiv yet again). Matsson knows, though, that Logan is desperate to acquire his company, so Matsson pitches a takeover where he would bring Roman on and buy Logan out. Logan sends Roman away while he discusses the matter with Matsson.

Roman tells Shiv the latest developments, and worried, she takes the issue to Kendall. Kendall experiences a breakdown at this moment, confessing his involvement in the manslaughter to Roman and Shiv. In a darkly-sweet moment, they comfort and forgive him, and the trio is back together again in full force. In order to stop Logan from handing the power over to Matsson, Kendall tells them they need a supermajority, and that the holding company their mother got in the divorce helps maintain the siblings' power. They form a plan and Kendall is seemingly more himself again. Shiv calls Tom to inform him of their plan, and Tom asks Greg if he will join Tom in making "a deal with the devil"? Greg sides with Tom.

The siblings confront Logan, who says it's the best time to sell to Matsson. They hold a united front against him, but when Logan calls Catherine (whose holding company is the siblings' only saving grace) it turns out Logan already got to her. It's over. But how did he know what they planned to do? As Logan leaves, having won, he gives Tom a pat on the shoulder. Shiv knows it was Tom who told Logan, and that "the devil" he and Greg decided to side with was in fact Logan Roy. Logan won, but it cost him the support of all his children.
