The Most Impressive Superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show

Following a summer of record demand this year’s event was glitzier than ever.

By Irenie Forshaw

Luisine

Each September, thousands of yacht builders, designers and owners descend on Port Hercule for the Monaco Yacht Show. It is here, in the heart of the picturesque Côte d’Azur, that boat lovers make their annual pilgrimage to catch a glimpse of the world’s newest – and most exciting – vessels.

This year, the hotly anticipated event took place between September 28 and October 1. And, following a summer of record demand for superyachts spurred by the pandemic, the 2022 iteration was bigger and glitzier than ever.

With over 600 exhibitors showcasing 125 superyachts, there was no shortage of incredible boats on display. So, whether you’re considering taking the plunge and purchasing a yacht of your own, or you’re simply here to marvel at the latest builds, we’ve rounded up the most impressive vessels on display at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Project TIME

Project TIME yacht exterior

Kicking off our list of the biggest reveals at the Monaco Yacht Show is Project TIME. The 282-ft explorer yacht concept is the brainchild of German shipbuilder Abeking & Rasmussen and Valentin Design.

Suited for cold and warm water expeditions, the ship has been designed to travel everywhere from Antarctica to the South Pacific Islands. Powered by a diesel-electric propulsion system, Project Time would deliver a maximum speed of 16 knots, with a cruising speed of 14 knots, and a range of 5,000 nautical miles.

Boasting a helipad platform, submarine, two lounges and even an onboard German brewery, this is no ordinary yacht. The extravagant vessel also features an extra wide owner’s duplex suite complete with two marble bathrooms and an expansive balcony.

Dutch shipyard Feadship unveiled its eleventh cutting-edge yacht concept at the show, Slice. Studio de Voogt was brought in for the project, with the ambitious goal of turning “the inside out and the outside in”. To this end, the design team fitted the yacht with a glass strip running from bow to stern, bathing the decks in natural light.

Unlike many yachts that are plagued by gloomy corridors and claustrophobic living spaces, the interiors onboard Slice are bright and breezy. At the heart of the yacht on the main deck is a sprawling 750-sq-ft atrium flanked by cascading circular balconies, which, according to Feadship is so much more than a lobby and instead becomes “a destination in its own right”.

In a sign of Feadship’s dedication to using the latest technology, Slice would be fitted with a propulsion system powered by four dual-fuel generators modified to run on both methanol and non-fossil diesel (hydrotreated vegetable oil), with the generated power delivered to two Azimuthing pods.

Luisine yacht with helicopter

Our list of the best superyachts on display at Monaco Yacht Show would not be complete without mentioning Lusine. The 196-ft vessel is Heesen’s largest ever steel Fast Displacement motor yacht and features a sleek silhouette with black thermo-bonded dark glass windows to keep out prying eyes.

Perhaps most impressive of all is the touch-and-go helipad on the sundeck which can accommodate an Airbus H-135. Sinot Yacht Architecture and Design was brought in to mastermind the lavish interiors. Lusine comfortably sleeps twelve set across six spacious staterooms, each of which has been thoughtfully adorned with bespoke furnishings and elegant sculptures. The most exclusive abode is the owner’s apartment located up on the bridge deck which has its own staircase to ensure total privacy.

Come Together

Next up on our list is the first vessel in Amel’s new 60 Limited Edition Series. Designed by Espen Oeino International and built in the Netherlands, Come Together was delivered to her owner this Spring for an estimated €69.5m (approx. $68.6m).

The gleaming new superyacht spans 196 ft and features a teak deck, steel hull and aluminum superstructure. Winch Design is responsible for the laid-back yet elegant interiors that are reminiscent of a relaxed family home in shades of walnut and bronze.

Come Together has been fitted with a hybrid propulsion system for smooth, quiet cruising and features an expansive sun deck and 157-ft swim platform.

Winch Design and Heesen also unveiled XV67 at the Monaco Yacht Show – a brand new explorer yacht concept that builds on their XVenture design concept from four years ago.

The 187-ft vessel has been given a refreshed layout and updated with the latest technology. While the robust steel hull remains, she is 32 ft longer than her predecessor and the tenders have been moved to the open aft deck freeing up space for even larger guest cabins and an expansive three-story master stateroom.

As seems to be becoming commonplace onboard the newest superyachts, VX67 boasts a helipad (that functions as an al fresco cinema when not in use) and has space to store a personal submarine on deck.

Meyer took the Monaco Yacht Show as an opportunity to share the very first renderings of its sustainable One50 concept. The vessel – which was first unveiled a year ago at the 2021 show – is powered electrically by 25,000 kilowatts enabling her to reach a maximum speed of 23 knots.

After a year long wait to see what One50 could like, the renderings certainly don’t disappoint. Wellness is at the heart of the design; the 492-ft yacht features a retractable swimming pool, massage parlour, sauna and hammam. Other highlights include the top deck which is reserved entirely for the owner’s use and boasts an enormous suite complete with a private terrace.

Four Seasons Yacht

four seasons yacht rendering

Last but by no means least on our roundup of the most impressive vessels unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show is Four Seasons’ first branded yacht . Slated to set sail at the end of 2025, no expense has been spared by the luxury hotel group, with each suite costing a cool $4.2m to build.

The gigantic vessel will be 679 ft long and 88.6 ft wide with 14 decks and a total of 95 rooms and suites. While the initial launch is just one yacht, the order includes the option to add two further ships in the future – amounting to an eyewatering $1.1bn.

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri will build the Four Seasons yacht in Trieste before Tillberg Design of Sweden and London-based Martin Brudnizki are brought in to put their stamp on the interiors. As you would expect from the luxury hotel brand, the yacht will feature an array of facilities including gourmet restaurants, bars, and a full-service spa.

Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show returns this year for its 32nd edition with a stellar lineup of yachts. The newly refitted 319-foot Carinthia VII and the head-turning 312-foot Kismet are two of the largest yachts confirmed to attend, while this year’s debuts include a dozen-plus new launches that may not be as large as some of the brokerage and charter gigayachts at the show but are still an impressive group in terms of design.

The newbies also seem to be broken out into distinctive colors this year, with the 262-foot scarlet-red Leona being the largest launch at the show, while the 174-foot Jewels , with its sky-blue hull will also stand out. Damen’s Bad Company Support has neon-pink lettering on the side, while Anjelif has a gold exterior, and Grey has a black superstructure and light-gray hull.

The Monaco event is the biggest yachting show to take place throughout Europe and the marquis event in the superyacht world. The organizers have been working hard to promote environmental innovations and educational trends taking place within yachting. The show will have design and innovation hubs, sustainability hub, and an adventure area. Of course, the big stars will be the fleet of 120 superyachts in Port Hercules.

Here are the 10 launches that we will definitely be visiting at the show.

‘Leona’ | Bilgin Yachts

one superyachts monaco

The 262-foot Leona is Bilgin Yachts’s largest delivery to date. Even amid the glamour of Port Hercules, the full custom yacht will be hard to miss, thanks to a bright-scarlet hull that has earned the yacht the nickname “the Red Bullet.” The exterior is designed by Unique Yacht Design, and the interior is by H2 Yacht Design. The largest yacht to debut in Monaco this year, Leona is part of the Bilgin 263 series. It has the same lifting transom and large beach club pool as its sistership Tatiana . Another wow-factor feature includes a pair of Greek statues covered in fiber optics that give the impression of a star-studded night sky.

‘Alchemy’ | Rossinavi

one superyachts monaco

With a design that was developed entirely over Zoom, Rossinavi’s tri-deck 216-foot Alchemy was built for an owner with a penchant for space. The result is more than 3,500 square feet of deck space, which holds large outdoor dining areas mated with dedicated bronzing and socializing areas and an on-deck Jacuzzi. The design employs Philippe Briand’s signature Vitruvius hull, while the contemporary interior was by Enrico Gobbi’s Team for Design.

‘Anjelif’ | Columbus Yachts

one superyachts monaco

The 164-foot Anjelif is defined by its many technical innovations, including hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, an onboard sanitization system for the elimination of airborne viruses, and a touch-and-go helipad at the bow that converts into an open-air cinema. The all-aluminum, four-deck yacht delivered by Italian shipyard Columbus Yachts also boasts a gold exterior by Marco Casali of Too Design. The Italian studio used natural and sustainable materials to define the interior. Amenities include a gym on the main deck, a sauna, and treatment rooms.

‘Jewels’ | Turquoise Yachts

one superyachts monaco

Turquoise Yachts’s 174-foot Jewels , with its sky-blue hull, will no doubt to turn heads wherever it ventures. The exterior design is the result of a first-time collaboration between the Turkish builder and Miami-based DeBasto Design. The interior is by British studio H2 Yacht Design to accommodates 12 guests. The boat, which has 720 gross tonnes of volume, boasts a large sundeck with spa pool, sunpads, bar, and socializing area.

‘Grey’ | Tankoa

one superyachts monaco

Sporting a jet-black superstructure and light-gray hull, the aptly named Grey by Tankoa Yachts enjoys the same Paszkowski-designed profile as its sisterships Kinda and Olokun . But it’s the large glass-sided pool on the foredeck, paired with an outdoor cinema screen and integrated surround-sound speakers, that grab all the attention. A fold-down transom with extended swim platform, a beach club with side sea terraces, and a large sun deck with a second pool complete the 164-foot superyacht package.

‘X-Space’ | Sanlorenzo

one superyachts monaco

X-Space by Sanlorenzo takes the use of onboard glass to a new level. Full-height windows, sliding-glass panes and “glass walls” in the guest cabins fill the interior with natural light. One of the yacht’s five decks is dedicated entirely to the owner, comprising multiple living areas, an office, and large master suite leading directly onto a private terrace at the bow. The exterior features include a 323-square-foot sunbathing deck and a swimming pool. Designed by Zuccon International Project, the 144-foot yacht is one of the Italian yard’s most anticipated launches to date.

‘Fancy’ | Nautor’s Swan

one superyachts monaco

As the first hull in Nautor’s Swan’s 108 series, the 115-foot Fancy is one of a handful of sailing yachts making its world premiere at Monaco this year. Described by the shipyard as “the first in a new generation of Maxi Swans,” and sitting neatly between its Swan 98 and Swan 120 flagship, it mates a carbon hull with a sweeping and uncluttered resin-infused deck. The exterior design is by Micheletti + Partners, with naval architecture by German Frers.

‘Ace’ | Conrad

one superyachts monaco

The 145-foot yacht Ace built by Conrad Shipyard is the largest superyacht to come out of Poland. Its Reymond Langton exterior is defined by a “rolling wave” superstructure and an 82-foot sundeck with cinema screen and recessed infinity pool. Commissioned by a Swiss owner who requested an interior with an “Italian soul,” the full-custom boat sleeps 10 guests in five suites, with accommodations for a crew of nine. It marks the first hull in the Polish shipyard’s C144S series.

‘ArtExplorer’ | Perini Navi

one superyachts monaco

When Robb Report reported on Frédéric Jousset’s idea for a floating gallery in 2021 , the art enthusiast’s vision was still a dream. Now it’s a 154-foot reality called ArtExplorer , debuting at Monaco this year. Built by Perini Navi to a design by naval architects Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier, it is the largest aluminum sailing catamaran in the world. Following the museum boat’s premiere at Monaco, it will sail the world, hosting immersive art exhibitions curated in collaboration with the Louvre Museum in Jousset’s bid to “democratize the arts.”

‘Bad Company Support’ | Damen

one superyachts monaco

The 175-foot Bad Company Support is the first hull in Damen Yachting’s YS53 support vessel series. Commissioned by American tech entrepreneur Anthony Hsieh, the support vessel will be the largest boat in the serial yachtsman’s 10-strong fleet of vessels used for sportfishing expeditions and marine conservation. It’s also his first new build. Sporting an attention-grabbing neon pink name on its side, the support vessel has a 5,000 nautical mile range, a 15-ton deck crane, and IMO Tier III-compliant engines.

Maiden Voyage of HighSpeed Catamaran Monaco One

By George Bains

On 8th March 2021 the highspeed catamaran Monaco One was christened in the Principality. Designed and built by Advanced Aerodynamic Vessel in La Rochelle, France, Monaco One will connect Monaco’s Ports to Cala del Forte and Ventimiglia. The catamaran is not only a statement of innovation, but will provide an important connection between two marinas.

In attendance at the launch were His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, his niece and godmother of Monaco One, Ms Camille Gottlieb, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Hanover, Her Serene Highness Princess Stéphanie, Mr and Mrs Louis Ducruet, and Ms Pauline Ducruet.

The Monaco One is a powerhouse of state-of-the-art technology, built in a sandwich-structured composite of carbon and glass, measuring 12m in length and 7.5m in width and powered by two 350hp Yanmar engines.

The brand-new power catamaran can sail 250 miles on a full tank, and will be used as a shuttle service between Monaco and Ventimiglia carrying up to 12 passengers in absolute comfort. Guests of both ports will be able to travel between the two marinas in just 15 minutes aboard Monaco One, travelling at speeds of 45 knots. The design combines a need for speed with a reliable and sustainable approach thanks to cutting-edge aerodynamic solutions that allow for fuel consumption at top speeds to be half that of conventional designs.

Aleco Keusseoglou, President of the Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco, welcomed guests to the Yacht Club de Monaco’s waterfront, where all necessary health and safety rules were followed, with a few opening words. “Today is a day we should all be celebrating,” said Keusseoglou. “The Monaco One, with her futuristic design, symbolises the hope we hold for a better tomorrow, a tomorrow we actively work towards, a tomorrow we believe in.”

After thanking those who came to witness such a momentous occasion, the SPEM President continued by stressing “the importance of the direct connection now possible thanks to the Monaco One for private clients of the Principality’s ports and of Cala del Forte , reinforcing the strong bond Monaco already shares with Ventimiglia and Liguria’s Ponente coast.

“Finally, I would like to thank all those involved, especially Ms Camille Gottlieb for having agreed to act as godmother to the Monaco One, we are all deeply honoured. The Société d’Exploitation des Ports de Monaco will join Monaco One in establishing a partnership with the BE SAFE Association, of which Ms Gottlieb is President. The Association pursues a particularly noble purpose and we are thrilled to be able to help in this endeavour.”

After the religious ceremony enacted by the Archbishop of Monaco, Monsignor Dominique-Marie David, followed by the traditional smashing of the sacrificial bottle against the hull carried out by godmother Camille Gottlieb, the Grimaldi Family joined President Keusseoglou onboard the Monaco One to enjoy the catamaran’s inaugural launch at sea.

The best things to see and do in Monaco

Despite its compact size, Monaco is a luxury destination with a superb selection of things to see and do.

Even if you don’t want a flutter, the famed Monte-Carlo Casino is well worth visiting, located in the Golden Square, Monaco’s most exclusive address. Order a martini at the bar and admire the Belle Epoque building, designed by Charles Garnier and Jules Dutrou, with its many chandeliers and frescoes. Next door, the gilded Hôtel de Paris houses Alain Ducasse’s Michelin-starred Le Louis XV. Alternatively, the late Joël Robuchon’s eponymous restaurant is just a short stroll away at the equally elegant Hôtel Métropole.
