HONOR - Yacht Charters Global

honor luxury yacht charter

If you’ve never seen the show, it follows the crew of a luxury yacht during peak “charter season.” The original Below Deck, for example, showed off the glitz and glamour of the Caribbean, especially around St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. The Mediterranean spin-off, on the other hand, highlights European hotspots, including Italy, Spain and Croatia.

The show is undeniably a ton of fun. From the drama in the crew quarters, to the incredible beaches, the show provides an entertaining look behind the curtain.

Yet, the chartered superyachts are the real stars of the show. Each season, Below Deck features a truly stunning super yacht. All of them measure over 150 feet and are decked out in opulent features, staterooms and amenities. And here’s something you might not know: The majority of the Below Deck yachts are available for charter!

Below Deck Charter Yachts

Through five seasons, Below Deck has featured some of the most magnificent super yachts in the world. Some of the yachts have changed ownership since the show, been renamed, or have undergone a refitting. Yet, most look like they did from the show.

But beyond the name and maybe a few changes to the interior, there aren’t many differences. All of the water toys, Jacuzzis and stunning outdoor dining areas are what you’ll find on the yachts available for charter! So which charter yachts are available?

Here’s a more detailed look at the yachts featured on the original Below Deck:

Honor – Season 1

Lumiere yacht

Honor (which is now LUMIERE) kicked off the first season, and she put on a dazzling display. The yacht, originally built by Benetti in 1999, is one of the largest yachts ever featured on the show, and it was actually booked for a five-week charter for filming.

HONOR benefited from the new-found fame of the show. She sold after it aired for nearly $15 million, and the new owners completely refit her interiors and renamed the boat. Today, LUMIERE is a masterpiece of nautical engineering.

She features luxurious accommodations for up to 12 guests and an abundance of deck space, including a sprawling sun deck. The yacht also features a wide array of water toys (the slide was a struggle for the crew all season!).

Ohana – Season 2

Yacht Rhino

Season 2 took the crew on a tour of the British Virgin Islands and featured some familiar faces. Captain Lee, Chef Ben, and Bosun Eddie were back, much to the pleasure of fans. Yet, the yacht was completely different.

OHANA (real name is RHINO) was featured on the second season, a stunning 154-footer, with beautiful decks, a horseshoe outdoor bar, and a stunning outdoor sun deck. After the show aired in 2014, Ohana underwent an extensive retrofit.

She now features an updated interior with a decidedly modern, airy vibe, as well as new hardware, including a state-of-the-art stabilization system.

Eros – Season 3

Yacht Mustang Sally

EROS took centerstage in Season 3, and the 161-foot yacht, originally built for the founder of Tim Hortons, was one of the most luxurious featured on the show. The beautiful tri-deck, featured a stately saloon, a sky lounge Jacuzzi, and sleek exterior styling.

EROS – which was sold prior to the third season – has since been renamed and was also remodeled. She’s now known as Mustang Sally, and unfortunately, this is one of the few Below Deck charter yachts that’s not available for charter.

Valor – Seasons 4 & 5

honor luxury yacht charter

The stately VALOR was a fan favorite in Season 4 and 5. Built in 1990 by Dutch-based Feadship, the 154-foot VALOR featured a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges. Plus, the ship – when featured on the show – had a range of water toys, including dual jet skis and a sleek, boutique hotel-inspired interior.

Like Mustang Sally, VALOR – which is now known as simply BG – isn’t available for charter. Yet, fans will always remember all the drama that took place on board.

Below Deck Mediterranean Yachts

Below Deck Mediterranean premiered in 2016, and through three seasons, the show has featured some of the Med’s best yachts. All of the yachts from the Mediterranean spin-off are available for charter, exactly how you see them on the show.

Ionian Princess – Season 1

Yacht Ionian Princess

Season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean launched with a bang, featuring one of the strongest premieres for the franchise. Although there was plenty of drama throughout the season as the crew traveled around Greece, the beauty of IONIAN PRINCESS couldn’t be missed. The ship, which was originally built in the U.S. in 2005, featured a sleek, streamlined tri-deck design and gorgeous interiors.

The sun deck – where guests partied all season long – is one of the yacht’s star attractions, featuring a Jacuzzi with world-class views. Her interior, though, is one of the most stunning, featuring a chic design. The yacht also includes six cabins with accommodations for up to 12 guests.

Sirocco – Season 2

Sirocco yacht

Season 2 took the crew to Croatia, aboard SIROCCO. The Dutch-built yacht originally launched in 2006, and thanks to its unique two-tone, third-deck exterior, she was remembered for her striking exterior. All of the yacht’s features made great TV. From her incredible sun deck, to the African chic interior, and all of the many water toys, SIROCCO’s impressive design and amenities stood out.

Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean. A few unique features include a sun deck gym, an alfresco party deck, a theatre, and a wide array of water toys.

Talisman Maiton – Season 3

Talisman

Named for an island in Thailand, TAILSMAN MAITON is a stunning tri-deck that cruises the pristine waters of Italy and all of the Mediterranean. The largest to ever be featured on the show, TAILSMAN is truly incredible.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests, in 6 beautifully appointed rooms. There’s a master suite, as well as 1 VIP stateroom, and four smaller cabins. The yacht was built in 2006, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. The yacht also features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.

How Long Are the Below Deck Charters?

Here’s a little-known secret about Below Deck: The “charter season” on the show is just a few weeks. In fact, the yachts are actually booked for about six weeks, and their regular crews are sent home. In other words, the charters on Below Deck are actually a charter within a charter!

Each of the Below Deck charters last just a few days, and each episode features new charter guests.

Below Deck Yacht Rental Costs

Hiring a yacht from Below Deck isn’t cheap. The majority cost in the neighborhood of $150,000 per week. Yet, that charter rate doesn’t include expenses, including fuel, dockage fees, and taxes.

Yet, for that price, you’ll get a truly world-class experience. The crews of each of these yachts provide first-class service and all of the boats are fully loaded with amenities. There’s nothing quite like it in the world. And by hiring one of these superyachts, you’ll also have bragging rights for chartering a yacht featured on a TV show!

How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Below Deck Yacht?

Kriti Mehrotra of How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Below Deck Yacht?

Ever since its debut in the summer of 2013, the ‘ Below Deck ‘ franchise has been following the experiences of crew members who live and work aboard luxurious vessels as it sails through beautiful locations across the world. From navigating their roles and interpersonal relationships to meeting every demand of their seemingly overbearing guests, they essentially have to do it all. However, let’s be honest, as onlookers, we do cut the patrons some slack considering the evident, exuberant amounts of money they spend on a vacation. So now, let’s find out the actual cost, shall we?

When you charter a vessel from the list of ‘Below Deck’ superyachts, you can expect 150+ feet of deluxe comfort, including a personalized itinerary, suitcase management, water activities, and turn-down services, amongst much more. You can even request off-boat excursions — planned and executed by the vessel’s crew members —  to ensure that you get everything in one place without any serious efforts for complete relaxation. Though, of course, with that, you have to pay the appropriate compensation, which racks up to a minimum of $140,000 (plus expenses) for a weeklong venture.

honor luxury yacht charter

Starting from season 1’s Honor yacht (now renamed to BARENTS), after a major refit from its new owner, a weeklong charter in this 164-foot boat begins from $175,000. Then, standing at a stunning 154 foot, season 2’s Ohana (actual name RHINO) only goes for around $140,000 per week. Season 3’s Eros (known as STAY SALTY) is unavailable for private yacht charters right now, but seasons 4, 5, and 7’s Valor (or BG) is available for the price of $158,000. Coming to the luxury we have all come to know and love as My Seanna, the 185-feet Starship is the most expensive here at $260,000/week.

As for the sails of ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ and ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht,’ while Parsifall III from the latter costs between $240,000 to $280,000 a week to rent, Ionian Princess from the former’s season 1 starts at about $163,000. The Sirocco of seasons 2 and 4 lands in the pricey range of $192,000 to $213,500, whereas season 3’s Talisman Maiton crosses the $250,000 mark.

honor luxury yacht charter

As for The Wellington in the fifth season, the 184.5-feet beauty goes from $260,000 to $280,000 for a week. However, season 6’s Lady Michelle breaks all bounds by costing between $270,000 to $310,000 plus expenses. With that said, a few years ago, show creator Mark Cronin revealed that the guests who appear on the series are given a discount of about 50% from the actual cost of chartering the vessel for three days.

“We ask them to tip about 15% to 20% of the full cost though,” Mark Cronin added on a Reddit thread . “The tip amount is up to them as well. They are not compensated, but we pay their airfare.” Along with that, the production team also supports the guests by providing hotel accommodations the night before and the night after the charter while ensuring their complete safety and comfort. Their support extends to the crew in the form of an adequate salary and a few other benefits as well.

Tips Ahoy! Crew Tips on Luxury Charter Yachts

August 26, 2013 By Julie Perry

If you are watching Bravo TV’s Below Deck , then you’ve obviously followed the Honor crew’s weekly anticipation of their charter-tip money—and in many of the episodes, even their overwhelming disappointment in how that played out (or rather, paid out). It has raised a lot of questions among fans within social channels, including one of the most common I’ve seen: what is considered a “good” tip for a charter-yacht crew similar to Motoryacht Honor’s?

Tip Distribution Time on Bravo TV's Below Deck

Good base salaries and no expenses—those are big benefits for yacht crew working in the superyacht industry. But indeed, where you can make an even bigger financial score is with guest tips on yachts that charter.

In my book, The Insiders’ Guide to Becoming a Yacht Stewardess , I devote an entire chapter to discussing yacht-crew benefits and what is to be expected when one goes to work on various categories of luxury vessels. This overview includes private-only yachts vs. charter yachts , sailing yachts vs. motor yachts , and even what is to be expected among the various types of employment—from freelance crew to full-time crew , and the increasingly common rotational-crew opportunities.

(That’s all in Chapter 2. Meanwhile, you can download Chapter 1 for free now to learn all about the luxury yachting industry: who owns superyachts, how much they cost, and what type of people own vs. charter them.)

Crew tips on luxury charter yachts - boatloads of money

Indeed, tip money on heavily-booked charter yachts can equate to boatloads of extra cash for the crew. Just not always.

Essentially though : On charter yachts like Bravo’s Honor, when the owners are not using the boat, other guests can pay a fee to use the vessel for what is usually one to two weeks at a time. (Not to say that 3-6 week charters aren’t also common.) Now here’s a big benefit to working on this category of boat: Charter guests usually tip 10–20 percent of the charter fee to the crew, which can be between $1,000–$4,000 per crewmember for a week, on top of their healthy salary!

This means that, even for entry-level crew who start out at a $30–$43K base salary, if you can land a job on a charter yacht, you could earn an additional income of $10–$20K a year in crew tips… In fact, I once made $18,000 in tips in one summer Mediterranean season alone!

Just think: If the boat you work on costs $25,000 a day to be chartered, and you have the guests onboard for, say, 10 days, then that means they paid $250,000 to rent that vessel. And that’s before paying for food, fuel, and docking fees; but tips are factored on the base fee. Even if they only tip 10 percent, that’s $25,000. If you have a crew of 10, when the tip is divided equally, you EACH receive $2,500 in tips on top of your salary… All for 10 days of work (albeit hard work and incredibly long days).

There is one small hitch, though. And this is perhaps something the Honor crew needed to be more realistic about when criticizing even the lower end generosity of their charter guests:

I don’t want to give any false illusions that tips are guaranteed, nor do I want you to think they will always be super generous. I’ve received tips that sent me into shock (big ones), and I was tremendously let down on a few occasions.

Try the outcome of a 42-day charter that cost the guests well over a million dollars, but where my 12-person crew only received $2,500 each. When you think about it, that tip could have been upwards of $10,000-$15,000 per person. I will never forget our voyage back to San Remo the day those charter guests left us in Civitavecchia (Rome). No one on the crew spoke. In fact, no one spoke for over 24 hours. Call it shock, call it depression, call it “oh my gawd, why in the HELL do I put myself through this agony!?”… but like every other let-down in life, you move on. The charter after that lined our pockets with a 22% tip off a 20-day charter. So in the end, things evened out.

Let’s Ask the Experts

To give you the most accurate scoop, I decided to ask one of the top charter brokers in the business, Debra Blackburn Boggio of Fraser Yachts Worldwide , to comment on how guest tips are handled. A charter broker is the person who books and handles all the logistics of a chartered trip; he or she deals directly with the guests (or in most cases, the guests’ personal assistants).

My question to Debra:

“I know the topic of tips can be a sensitive one, but if you feel comfortable commenting, a common question I receive from people looking into this industry is about the additional compensation they might expect by taking a job aboard a heavily booked charter yacht. Is tipping guaranteed, is there a standard, and how does the effort a crew puts into a charter affect the gratuity that is given at the end of a trip?”

Debra Blackburn Boggio:

Debra Blackburn Boggio, Charter Broker for Fraser Yachts Worldwide

Debra Blackburn Boggio Charter Broker for Fraser Yachts Worldwide

“Tips are a touchy subject… We brokers recommend a guideline for tipping. Americans are a tipping nation, and therefore the standard of 10–15 percent of the charter fee is what we recommend. However, most countries around the world do not have a tipping environment. Therefore, these clients are not prepared to offer this level of tip, so they expect to offer less, and do. Also, as yachts are getting larger and more expensive, it becomes unrealistic to think that a charterer would spend $350,000+ expenses for a week aboard a yacht, and then give over $50,000 to the crew just as an extra thank you.

“Since a gratuity is a gift, it is absolutely at the discretion of the client, and no matter what we recommend, the client will still give what he or she feels is appropriate. In some cases that is 5 percent, in some it is 20 percent. A crewmember cannot expect a guaranteed 15 percent every time a charter is aboard. My advice to any new people in the industry is expect nothing, and whatever you get will be a bonus.

“Hard work is noticed. I recently had a charter client who told me, ‘The rest of the crew did okay, but so and so, the stewardess, went above and beyond, so we left her an extra tip.’ Clients are always watching. These are the most wealthy, successful people in the world. They did not get that way by being unaware of whom they surround themselves with…”

Line Break

A big thanks to Debra for her expert insight. (That was pulled directly from Chapter 2 of The Insiders’ Guide to Becoming a Yacht Stewardess , by the way.)

From my experience working on a heavily booked charter vessel, while the tips can vary from 5–20 percent, we most often found they averaged out to 10 percent by the end of a season. Given that the charter fee was so high for our vessel, it meant a lot of extra money. With the tips I made in one season, I was able to pay off my college loans, have some money to play and shop in ports, and I never even touched the salaried income that was wired into my bank account each month by the owner.

In reality, a 164-foot Benetti megayacht like M/Y Honor charters for a LOT more money than what the participants on Below Deck were chartering her for. In reality, Honor is called M/Y Cuor di Leone, and she charters for between $25,000 and $35,000 PER DAY, depending on the time of season. That makes sense to me since she’s the sister ship to a vessel I worked on for over a year and a half. (You can read more about the original M/Y Honor, which was christened as M/Y Lionheart back in 1999, in this post here .)

But, the “guests” on Bravo’s television show Below Deck were able to vacation aboard this palace on water for well under what she would normally cost ( they got her for $50,000 for just the 3 day charter —a steal really, especially considering I know few megayachts that will charter for any length of time under 7 days). So viewers really shouldn’t look too closely at what these guests felt they needed to tip on a vessel of this caliber; I can assure you, they are not the same caliber of guests I recall being able to afford a vacation like this. Nor can I really say certain members of the crew probably earned a higher-end tip. For those who did, that sucks for them. But remember, it’s a team effort. You are only as good as your weakest member.

I wish the crew of Honor better luck in Season 2, where hopefully they’ll get members capable of more hard work and less attitude. Meanwhile, the REAL yacht-crew industry is keeping its fingers crossed that some members don’t stick around to make those hard-working professionals who respect their guests and take pride in their job/industry look bad.

Moral of the story: Tips are EARNED, kids.

yes yes yes! I don’t understand why they are all so shocked at the time of pay out since the charters are so steeply discounted! It’s not the typical situation by any means.

I agree with you also about the crew for next season. More experienced workers to reflect well on the rest of us, please! Have fun tonight :)

August 28, 2013 at 12:36 pm

Thanks for the comment, Arielle! I suppose the non-experienced crew do make for more drama, therefore I understand where the “Below Deck” producers were coming from in wanting to get a good mix. On a positive note: Perhaps the juxtaposition of good crew behavior vs. bad crew behavior is what will make for a better training tool for “real reality”‘s crew.

I guess also for the purposes of the show, we shouldn’t expect that they’d be able to pull the true type of guest who’d normally travel aboard vessels like M/Y “Honor.” Maybe now that the show has exposure, more of those will come forward for Season 2. Not that I foresee THAT level of money wanting to put themselves out there like this (in other words, I doubt we’d see any Russian mafia, oil sheiks, or the type of industry tycoons who care more about shunning attention rather than attracting it), but I imagine there are some serious money characters out there who don’t mind this kind of spotlight. Case in point: have you seen “The Queen of Versailles” documentary? (good grief)

I’ve always felt that to realistically explore the upstairs/downstairs world of superyachting in a television format, you need to do it as a scripted drama. Reality shows are never truly reality for a number of reasons. And as you know, it is a fascinating subject to explore. To truly fit a “Downton Abbey”-esque comparison like how Bravo TV is spinning “Below Deck,” you need to witness more of the guests’ inside world. To me, that’s best done as a scripted drama. I imagine that would be ripe for a lot of social commentary, not to mention human character trait/interaction analysis.

I still can’t help feeling like this crew life juxtaposed with guests on these extravagant boats, traveling all over the world, is the most sure bet, killer idea for a show. Concept: It’s not about the wealth. It’s about the character of a person. On “Below Deck,” we pick up lessons in that by witnessing the crew. But I’d like to see more of the master-servant dichotomy explored. Then again though, I’m a “Downton Abbey” fanatic, so I’m looking at things through that lens. In the meantime, I appreciate “Below Deck” for the entertainment, and yes, as a training tool for current and future crew. From the crew tips perspective, the “Honor” crew didn’t fly the flag all that well, but hey, it teaches us a lot.

Thanks again for dropping by! I hope everyone checks out your wonderful blog over at http://www.LittleMermaidAtSea.com to read about your journeys as they’re happening! Such great perspective from someone out there experiencing this world and all its facets — good and bad.

I totally agree about the scripted show idea! I’ve long felt the same way…

I never understand when crew complain about the tip they receive. They are still getting paid and it is their job to service guests whether they are owners or charterers. As a chef, a charter means more fun and being able to showcase the recipes I’ve learned and highlight the food. I love the added excitement of a charter. Charter yacht of the week: Cloudbreak, the 74m chalet on water

Each week we place a spotlight on one of the world’s finest superyachts for charter. This week, BOAT takes a look at 75.3-metre Cloudbreak , the chalet-inspired Abeking that was designed entirely for adventure.

Key Features

Length : 75.3m Crew : 22 Year: 2016 Destinations : Southeast Asia; Turkey Builder : Abeking & Rasmussen Guests: 12 Wellness: spa, gym, personal trainer Entertainment : cinema, toybox

Named after the legendary Fijian surfing reef, the 75.3-metre superyacht, Cloudbreak has adventure deeply rooted in her composition. Built in 2016 by German shipyard Abeking & Rasmussen, the owner – a fervent skier – outlined a floating high-tech chalet capable of exploring the world while delivering entertainment and adventure in the upmost comfort.

For this, Norwegian-born designer Espen Øino was selected for the task. A fiend for adventure himself, Øino penned a vessel that would deliver not only on experience but aesthetics too.

Cloudbreak’s exterior is tough, yet remarkably refined, concealing her hardy exploration credentials, which include an ice belt and what Øino calls an “integral wave breaker” in the inclined bulwark forward. But fine details such as heated floors in the showers, the sauna and the winter garden do well to exemplify Cloudbreak’s sophistication.

Interior design comes from the boards of Parisian designer Christian Liaigre, with furnishings carefully selected by the P.H.D architectural bureau to complement the design. She is inspired by a chalet but executed in an infinitely more refined manner. Warm and welcoming, Cloudbreak’s interiors are light and comforting with liquidambar veneer, lighter woods, such as Hornbeam floors, brushed or scored pine and oak added for texture. Lacquered surfaces also add a touch of complexity against wooden finishes, while light pours into the interiors thanks to her large windows and open arrangement.

Life on board Cloudbreak

While adventure is part of the arrangement, guests and charter clients on board Cloudbreak will certainly not be slumming it. Accommodation is for 12 guests across six cabins including one spellbinding master, which sits on the main deck. Calling into the yacht's outdoorsy nature, the owner wanted to have outdoor beds too so that guests could sleep under the stars.

On the lower deck, Cloudbreak has a 60-metre-long corridor that leads directly from Cloudbreak’s huge beach club — formed by a massive transom door plus a gym, sauna and massage area — to the five guest cabins and crew quarters. The idea here is so guests can leave the sauna or the gym and return straight to their cabin without having to walk in front of everyone in the saloon.

Guests will find a soothing sauna, massage room and chilled plunge pool on board for relaxation. They can also have personal training sessions, yoga or a massage treatment on board. Cloudbreak also switches into party mode quickly with an array of lights and speakers dotted around the yacht.

Surf boards Water ski Kite surfing Dinghy sailing Wind surfing SUPs Jet skis Sea Bobs Kayaks Inflatable trampoline Inflatable slides Sea rafts Inflatable towable Fishing gear

Where will Cloudbreak be cruising in 2024?

While she is a world cruiser at heart, Cloudbreak is currently cruising Southeast Asia. This summer, she is also available in Turkey.

Cloudbreak is available for charter with Superyachts Monaco with a weekly rate from €750,000.
