The high point of summer is upon us. July Fourth is this Tuesday and tons of local businesses, civic organizations, and community members are gearing up this weekend (and pretty much this whole month for that matter) for a slew of fireworks, parades, and good, clean fun. Across the South Fork there’s a bunch of firework shows put on by the “first family of fireworks,” the Grucci s. Known across the globe as the authority on pretty pyrotechnics, this sixth-generation family-owned company holds the Guinness World Record for the largest fireworks display ever recorded as well as the largest pyrotechnic image. For nearly four decades, they’ve been behind some of the East End’s most lustrous light shows.

Here’s where you can catch fireworks, parades, and more star-spangled, show-stopping fun this weekend and beyond.

Since 1947, the Devon Yacht Club in Amagansett has hosted Fourth of July fireworks annually. This year is no different, as the Grucci family is expected to make the sky sparkle above Napeage Bay this Saturday at 9:15 p.m.. The yacht club is located on Abrahams Landing Road, so prime viewing places include Fresh Pond Beach and

Tomorrow, June 30, it’s the “36th Annual American Picnic” benefit with fireworks by Grucci. Hosted by Danielle and David Ganek, the benefit helps support Southampton Fresh Air Home (SAFH) and its programs for children with disabilities. The festivities start at 7 p.m. at 1030 Meadow Lane in Southampton. Fun will include a carnival with games, stilt walkers and magicians, a deliciously classic American-themed picnic, music, dancing, and a fireworks display by Grucci displayed over Shinnecock Bay. All ages are welcome. Adult tickets are $350, junior tickets are $250, and children’s tickets are $175. Get yours here or call 631-283-5847.

Tomorrow, June 30, and Sunday, July 2, the night sky will be lit by fireworks at the North Sea Fire Department’s 78th annual carnival. Located at Firemen’s Field (149 Noyac Rd. in Southampton), the carnival will be open from 6 to 11 p.m. tonight through Sunday with the fireworks slated to start between 9 and 9:30 p.m..

The John A. Ward Independence Day Fireworks are this Saturday, July 1, at around 9:30 p.m. in Sag Harbor. Once again, Grucci is behind the show in the sky, with fireworks slated to pop off at the Sag Harbor Yacht Club . Bring your beach chair and park yourself at Marine Park on Bay Street to catch the action. Get there before sunset to claim the perfect spot.

On Tuesday, July 4, “Stars Over Montauk” fireworks are at Umbrella Beach, located about a third of a mile west of town on South Emerson Avenue, just behind the IGA. Beginning around 9 p.m., the pyrotechnic expert Grucci family will pull out all the stops and light up the sky. All are welcome to enjoy an extra special Fourth of July by setting sail with the Montauk Chamber of Commerce on a special fireworks boat cruise. Beginning at 6 p.m., attendees (must be 21 and older) can enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at Sammy’s (448 West Lake Dr.) with boarding starting at 7 p.m. at the Viking Fleet dock right next door. Tickets are $150 per person for the boat cruise and will include beer and wine, a buffet dinner, plus a live performance by The Realm Band . Rain date is Wednesday, July 5. Tickets are available here . Call the chamber at 631-668-2428 for more information.

On Tuesday, July 4, the Village of Southampton Commission on Veterans Patriotic Events invites all to join in for a Fourth of July parade. Beginning at 10 a.m. at Railroad Plaza, the parade continues down Main Street, then down Jobs Lane, ending at Agawam Park. According to a letter from the village office, this year’s grand marshal is Dennis Schmidt, a Vietnam War veteran who owned and operated Schmidt’s Market on North Sea Road for over 40 years. (Schmidt’s Market moved its location to 146 Jessup Ave. in Quogue this year. They’re still serving the same awesome food, so be sure to visit!)

Southampton’s July Fourth parade is one of the largest events of the year for the village and includes fire departments, marching bands, little league teams, veterans and active duty military, antique cars, floats, and much more. Call 631-283-0247 ext. 231 or click here for more information.

On Friday, July 7, Shelter Island Fireworks (SIF), a not-for-profit that brings all the July Fourth firework action to The Rock, hosts the “Shipwreck Fireworks Eve” at Salt. From 6 to 11 p.m. all are welcome for a 50/50 raffle, a silent auction and the opportunity to score some serious swag. Music will be provided by The Realm and there’ll be drink specials available. The next day, Saturday, July 8, a firework show from SIF will be at Crescent Beach beginning at approximately 9:15 p.m. with a rain date of Sunday, July 9. Later this month, on Friday, June 16, from 6 to 9 p.m. there’s a fundraiser to benefit SIF at Sunset Beach , complete with cocktails, music, hors d’oeuvres, and more. Tickets are $125 in advance/$150 at the door.

Later this month, The Clamshell Foundation ’s annual “Great Bonac Fireworks by Grucci” will be fired off the barge on Three Mile Harbor in East Hampton on Saturday, July 15. Scheduled for around 9:30 p.m., the fireworks show is a three-decade long tradition, according to the foundation. Suggested viewing locations throughout Springs include Maidstone Park, Sammy’s Beach, Gann Road plus any of the beaches off Hands Creek Road and Springy Banks Road. If you have the means (or if you can convince your friends that do) anchor your boat out in Three Mile Harbor for the ultimate viewing experience.

30+ firework displays in Devon in 2023

Ooooh, ahhhhh! Look skywards for firework displays in Devon in 2023.

This post rounds up all the bonfire and firework events I’ve spotted happening in Devon. Not all take place on 5 November and some have activities like markets, entertainment and regattas happening alongside them.

This post includes firework displays happening over the summer, on bonfire night, in the run up to Christmas, at New Year and beyond.

Tips for attending firework displays in Devon

Always check the organisers’ websites for the latest information about what’s on as running times and the weather can change quicker than I can update this guide!

Here’s some more tips:

  • Some displays require booking – check before you travel.
  • If you are travelling by car check the parking arrangements before you leave home. Some smaller events do not have dedicated car parks.
  • Be aware the gates may be closed before the fireworks start for safety reasons. So allow plenty of time to get yourselves in position for the best view.
  • Do not bring sparklers. Many event organisers have banned them for safety reasons.
  • Dogs are also not allowed at displays and would probably much prefer to be at home with the TV up loud.
  • Wrap up warm. Most events will go ahead whatever the weather.

Please note that the free events listed here would very much appreciate donations to keep them running in the future and support local charities. Give generously to collections.

devon yacht club fireworks 2023

Devon is dedicated to family, friendship and community and seeks to encourage and promote the sport of yachting, the science of seamanship and navigation as well as the sport of tennis. Established as the Gardiner’s Bay Boat Club in 1908, the Devon Yacht Club, Inc. was incorporated under the laws of New York on November 8, 1916, on land provided by the Gardiner’s Bay Company. Founding members who had been active in the original boat club included William S. Rowe, Colonel William Cooper Proctor, Joseph Rawson, and Richmond Levering. For more than a century our members have raced and sailed for pleasure in the southeast portion of Gardiner’s Bay, one of the finest sailing venues on the east coast. These protected waters with steady breezes are also ideal for youth instruction and since 1934 the Club has conducted its summer sailing program for children age 5-16. In addition to sailing, Devon offers outstanding tennis and bridge programs and a beautiful setting for dining overlooking Gardiner’s Bay.

Community Involvement

It has been a long-standing priority of the Club to be a positive contributor to the communities of Amagansett and East Hampton. Devon members have made gifts of land for the benefit of fellow residents including the site for the Amagansett Library; 130 acres on the bay encompassing Fresh Pond, Albert’s Landing and Little Albert’s Landing beaches; and 1,300 acres running from the bay to the ocean, encompassing what is now Napeague State Park. The Club supports numerous community service, educational and environmental organizations including the Amagansett Fire Department, Historical and Village Improvement Societies, the East Hampton Town Shellfish Hatchery, and the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research.  In order to assist local organizations dealing with the Covid-19 crisis, the Club has made donations to the East Hampton and Amagansett Ambulance Associations and the East Hampton and Springs food pantries. Each year several Devon Yacht Club Gardiner’s Bay college scholarships are awarded to East Hampton high school seniors who demonstrate an interest in preserving our marine environment. Since 1947, Devon has hosted an annual 4 th  of July fireworks display by the Grucci Family for our members and neighbors in Amagansett and East Hampton.

devon yacht club fireworks 2023

East Hampton Village Fire Chief Duane Forrester has a message for would-be Independence Day celebrants with a sackful of illicit fireworks at the ready: “Leave the fireworks to the professionals, so everyone can have a safe and happy Fourth of July.”

True, true — and there are plenty of fireworks shows coming up over the holiday weekend and through the summer to enjoy the rockets’ red glare without, you know, losing your thumb to an M-80.

Here’s a rundown:

The Greenport Fire Department offers its annual festival of pyrotechnics on the Friday night of Fourth of July weekend at the Polo Grounds, located off Route 25 on Moore Lane. The fireworks get going at 10 p.m. and are a highlight of the department’s annual fund-raising carnival, which runs through July 3.

The 35th annual Southampton Fresh Air Home fund-raiser features Grucci fireworks launched from a barge in Shinnecock Bay. (The beneficiary  is a camp for children with disabilities.) Along with fireworks, the event offers all-American picnic fare, live music, and other fun stuff — stilt walkers, magicians — with tickets running from $175 for young’uns, $250 for ages 21-30, and $350 for everyone else. It starts at 7 p.m. at 1030 Meadow Lane; the fireworks kick off at 9:15. There’s prime viewing along Meadow Lane for those who can’t swing the ticket.

Head to Little Albert’s Beach in Amagansett, or any other Gardiner’s Bay beach, for a prime viewing spot (but please leave the dog(s) at home, it’s not a fun time for pooches), when the Devon Yacht Club sets off its annual blockbuster show from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The weatherman called for thunderstorms on the show's original night of July 2, so it will take place instead on its rain date, July 3.

The Sag Harbor Yacht Club, 27 Bay Street, lights up the sky from 9:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. with its annual John A. Ward Independence Day Fireworks show. Ward was a popular Sag Harbor mayor, fire chief, and veteran, who died in 2012 at the age of 90. Head to Havens Beach, the Long Wharf, or Marine Park for choice viewing opportunities.

Each year the Westhampton Country Club puts on a Grucci show at its 35 Potunk Lane compound. While the club is closed to hoi polloi, there are no bad seats in Westhampton for this popular event, whose fuse is lighted at 9 p.m. The Great Lawn is an especially prime location. Rain date’s the Fourth.

The Orient Harbor Independence Day celebration in Southold features the de rigueur Grucci rockets and kicks off at 9:15, with a rain date set for July 16. Organizers are asking for donations to keep this Orient tradition going.

At last Independence Day has arrived, and along with it, the East End epic of friendly explosions otherwise known as Stars Over Montauk. Hosted by the world-famous Grucci family of fine fireworks products (and the Montauk Chamber of Commerce), the show’s at Umbrella Beach, just west of downtown, and can be viewed from pretty much anywhere in the hamlet (well, not from a barstool at the Shagwong). The Viking Classic is offering a cruise to Fort Pond Bay to check out the show, which kicks off at 9 p.m. The boat leaves its slip at 8 p.m. and returns at 11 p.m.; tix are $100 for adults and $50 for the under-12 set.

Who says fireworks are just for the Fourth? Well, nobody. Fireworks are awesome any time of the year! Shelter Island’s Crescent Beach fireworks show is at 9 p.m.

Another day, another Grucci blowout. The Three Mile Harbor fireworks extravaganza — a.k.a. the Great Bonac Fireworks Show — is co-hosted by the nonprofit Clamshell Foundation, and kicks off at 42 Gann Road at 9:30 p.m. The show fizzles out with a bang at 11:30 p.m. The event raises money for the foundation, which pays for local student scholarships and other child-friendly community outreach. Prime viewing spots include Sammy’s Beach and the beach at the end of Gann Road.

This isn’t just a fireworks show — it’s the high point of the annual Sag Harbor Firemen’s Carnival to benefit local firefighters, with the pyro popping off on Havens Beach. The carnival runs from Aug. 2 to Aug. 6, nightly from 5 to 10, and features all sorts of rides, foods, and “the best New York City-style food vendors.” Yum.

The very popular and well-attended East Hampton Fire Department fireworks show, held over Main Beach in East Hampton, kicks off at 9 p.m., deep in the dog days of late summer. Chief Forrester’s July Fourth call for caution remains in place — here’s to leaving it to the pros to provide a summer’s worth of oohs and aahs.

Note: This story has been updated to indicate the new date of the Devon Yacht Club's fireworks show.

A Call for Pop-Up Mom-and-Pops

The Anchor Society of East Hampton, a nonprofit community group working to revitalize the village business district and return a warmer sense of community to Main Street and Newtown Lane, has issued a call for applications to its Winter Shops program, which will place pop-up shops in otherwise empty storefronts during the off-season.

After successfully completing her 27,759-mile solo nonstop sail around the world last Thursday as part of the Global Solo Challenge, Cole Brauer received myriad thank-yous from near and far for having not only inspired a generation of young women (and at the beginning of International Women’s Month, no less) who might not otherwise have taken up a historically male-dominated sport, but also for having inspired everyone — young and old, male and female.

Main Street in Southampton . So Southampton Fresh Air Home’s 32nd Annual American Picnic With Fireworks by Grucci kicks off the Hamptons fundraising events season at a gorgeous oceanfront estate located at 1030 Meadow Lane in Southampton on Friday, July 5, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $300 for adults and $150 for kids. Fourth of July Parades in the Hamptons and North Fork The Hamptons’ only Independence Day parade takes place in Southampton Village on July 4. The parade sets off from Railroad Plaza at 10 a.m. and rolls down North Main Street to Jobs Lane, ending at 1 p.m. For additional information, visit the Southampton Village website .

The North Fork plays host to a number of Independence Day parades.
