Sailing yacht Carl Linne for sale at Northrop & Johnson and Dubois

Simultaneously, news comes in from Michael Nethersole at Northrop & Johnson and Toby Walker at Dubois Yachts that they’ve now signed a joint central agency for sale on the 32.3m sailing yacht Carl Linne .

Designed by Gerald Dijkstra and built in 2003 by Holland Jachtbouw to Lloyds class, Carl Linne is a modern interpretation of the fast and seaworthy Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter. Like her forbears, her powerful sail plan is easy to handle with a minimum of crew, and her plumb bow and broad counter stern give her a strong, workmanlike appearance.

MCA Large Yacht compliant, Carl Linne accommodates six guests in three staterooms.

Currently on her way from the Caribbean to Florida, Carl Linne is asking $5.7 million.

About nyima.

NYIMA , Tibetan for sun, is a 32-metre sailing yacht that was launched in Zaandam in 2003 under the name Christoffel’s Lighthouse . She has also sailed under the names Emmaline and Carl Linné , the latter after an 18th-century Swedish biologist, physician and zoologist.

NYIMA’s design is based on the look of the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutters; 19th century sailboats that were highly maneuverable, fast and easy to handle with a small crew. This enabled them to quickly transport local sea pilots to and from large ships in all weather conditions, in order to have them help with safe navigation to or from Channel ports. In addition, her lines are inspired by the participants of the 1885 America’s Cup: Puritan and Genesta .

Dykstra Naval Architects combined modern technology with classic style and traditional elegance when designing both the exterior and interior of NYIMA . She embodies speed, strength, suppleness, beauty and efficiency. This versatile sailing yacht has a retractable keel and with a total length of 32 metres is ideally suited for long distances at sea. Thanks to the lifting keel, she can access the shallowest ports and anchorages, thus fulfilling her destiny as a true world explorer. NYIMA was nominated for the Boat International Superyacht Award.

Her simplified and carefully planned deck layout allows for short-handed sailing and thanks to the raised buoy she offers a relatively safe deck working area.

NYIMA’s configuration is designed to accommodate up to six guests. There are three guest cabins on board, including the master cabin, a twin bed cabin and a double bed cabin. The luxurious master cabin spans the full width of the ship and has its own access with private cockpit. Furthermore, the sailing yacht offers accommodation for four crew members, divided over two sleeping quarters.

NYIMA has a displacement aluminium hull and a teak superstructure with teak decks. She is built to Lloyds Register 100 A1, LMC, and LYC classification regulations and meets MCA standards.

The sailing yacht is powered by a Lugger (L6108) 300 hp diesel engine and is propelled by a single propeller. She achieves a top speed of 10 knots on engine and cruises comfortably at a speed of 9 knots, achieving a range of 1000 nautical miles. In 2015, NYIMA had a refit.

Entertainment

To provide complete comfort and convenience to her guests, NYIMA is equipped with several state-of-the-art entertainment systems, including various audiovisual equipment such as DVD players, LCD TVs, Bose AV Lifestyle system, apple connectivity and a CD/ radio in every cabin. Onboard communications systems include a GSM Triband phone, Iridium global telephony and Sat C global email, powered by Inmarsat Broadband Internet and Telephony.

For sporting entertainment, NYIMA has a Novurania TR380 tender with a 30 hp outboard motor, extensive fishing tackle, snorkeling equipment, kayaks, surf equipment, a wakeboard, inflatable toys and a hydrophone for whale-finding.

Superbly designed and impeccably built, CARL LINNE is a modern interpretation of the fast and seaworthy Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter. Like her forbears, her powerful sail plan is easy to handle with a minimum of crew, and her plumb bow and broad counter stern give her a strong, workmanlike appearance. There is, however, nothing ‘workmanlike’ in her fit and finish, which has been meticulously executed by Holland Jachtbouw. Deck Equipment

DECK A clean sweep of teak planking runs forward from the broad aft deck, past two Bimini covered cockpits tucked behind a shelter giving deckhouse, towards the bow. The aft cockpit is dedicated to the owner’s use, edged with seating and sunk low into the deck, while the square sectioned teak built deckhouse just forward provides access to the owner’s stateroom. Beyond this, the main cockpit is both a sociable working space and an outdoor dining venue, with the helm station and controls located aft, and the sides edged with cushioned seating that serves the drop leaf dining table. Forward of the main deckhouse is a traditional skylight above the main saloon. Then the wide uncluttered deck sweeps past the mast to the bow, broken only by two service winches and the foredeck hatch to the crew’s quarters. A hydraulically operated platform opens from the port side amidships to allow easy access from the water or from a dinghy via a ladder up to the main deck level. Sailing CARL LINNE is very straightforward. All systems are hydraulically powered, and tacking upwind with staysail and main is simply a matter of turning the wheel. With swept back spreaders, running backstays are not necessary below 25 knots of wind, and the staysail sheet passes through a track mounted block running athwartships forward of the mast, then lead aft to the cockpit coaming. The plumb bow and fine entry provide speed, little spray, and a comfortable motion, while the modern, hydraulically operated lifting keel with a narrow fin and 23 ton bulb provides a quick and nimble response to the helm, and allows entry to even shallow anchorage.   DECK EQUIPMENT ANCHOR WINDLASSES Ascon anchor windlass GROUND TACKLE 90 Kg (200 Ib.) Three steps lead down from the main cockpit into the deckhouse, superbly built in teak and cherry, with windows on all four sides giving clear views whether sitting or standing. To port a U-shaped banquette wraps around a six seat dining table, the inboard places served by two stools that swivel out from underneath the table. Forward to starboard is the navigation center, incorporating three flat screens, a full sized chart table, and a comfortable bench seat. Beneath the deckhouse, a full beam engine room effectively divides the lower deck in two. Aft, accessed by stairs from the deckhouse, the entire area is dedicated to the owner’s stateroom, with a large double berth, a dressing table, a long sofa, and companionway stairs to the private aft cockpit. A large shower room is forward to port, and a compartment with a head and wash basin is to starboard. Forward of the deckhouse, several steps lead down to the saloon, which is partially divided by the casing for the lifting keel along the centerline. To port is a large galley that opens to a seating area just aft, fitted with an inbuilt L-shaped sofa and table, a comfortable area to play cards and for the crew to eat. Just to starboard is a more formal dining room with L-shaped bench settee, handsome dining table, and four dining chairs. Opening forward to either side of the centerboard casing are two spectacular wood trimmed guest cabins: a double berth stateroom to port, and a twin cabin with a third Pullman berth to starboard. The crew cabin, with ensuite facilities and a double bed and two single berths, is located further forward in the bows. Since inclement weather may make the foredeck entry to this cabin uncomfortable or awkward, a second entrance is provided through the shower room of the double guest cabin to port. SOFT FURNISHINGS All soft furnishings have been recently updated with interior design by Kerry Francis Designs of London to include cashmere Lora Piana and Sunbrella fabrics. The boat comes with a set of carefully made floor runner covers, external varnish covers and soft furnishing covers. This allows us to stretch out periods between external re-varnishing work to 6-12 months.

Her astounding good looks will make any owner proud, her performance under sail will bring unbounded joy, and her quality of construction will bring a deep satisfaction. Inspection is highly recommended. Patton Marine Surveyors, one of the most, if not the most recognised and renowned International Surveyors, recently had the following to say after completing a condition survey at the request of the current Owner: “CARL LINNE” is an excellent example of a truly custom designed sailing yacht, being designed and built by one of northern Europe’s premiere yacht builders. She is designed for world wide ocean cruising and has successfully and comfortably achieved many safe ocean passages. She is built and outfitted to very high standards using very good quality equipment. Over the past few years she has been extensively cruising and her maintenance has been kept up to high standard. Her external appearance is first class, with a new paint coating system and bright work varnish."

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

Carl von Linné: The Development of the Idea of Binomial Nomenclature

Affiliation.

  • 1 Medical Biology, Bezmialem Vakif University, Istanbul.
  • PMID: 38450482
  • DOI: 10.1177/09677720211065352

Due to binomial classification system defined by Carl von Linné, it has been shown that living things that were thought to be independent from each other are actually in a relationship. This "binomial classification" idea corresponds to a leap in the history of human thought. Carl von Linné's original idea is a product of the specific conditions of the period, particularly the renaissance and reform movements and geographical discoveries, rather than an idea he produced alone. These movements are part of a chain of ideas that stretches from antiquity to the Medieval and then to the period called the Enlightenment. The aforementioned transformations generally affected the scientist, albeit indirectly, even in geographies far from Sweden, where Carl von Linné spent most of his life. As such, the binomial classification system stands before us as a result of scientific breakthroughs in central Europe. In this study, it will be tried to be explained by taking the opus magnum of Carl von Linne as an example, taking into account the course of scientific developments, which we can attribute to the European civilization, and the philosophical and social texture.
