Reviews from our Carefree Clients

A group of couples we booked aboard 50' Catamaran Scuba Doo in November 2023 said:

It's been a week since our BVI catamaran vacation aboard the Scuba Doo. The vacation high is over, and I finally have time to relay our thoughts. As soon as we three couples boarded Scuba Doo, we knew it was going to be an epic week. Several of us had previously been on a catamaran in the BVI two other times through other companies. We knew what to expect, and what we preferred to do...or so we thought. Kris and Aneta - WOW - you two were beyond amazing! Your attention to detail, sharing of stories and finding new places for us to explore exceeded our expectations. We had just enough activities and relaxation times to please the entire group. Snorkeling and floating at the Caves and Indians and also at two coves new to us was perfect. The two divers of the group were able to get their fill of diving without interfering with the rest of the group plans. "Bubbles Up!" Kris was also patient and attentive when one of us went on a discovery dive for the first time. Aneta and Kris also know their way around the kitchen! We did not go hungry and thoroughly enjoyed all the meals, and treats in the 'Dome of Yum'. Our highlights are The Baths, Conch Island Tour in Anegada and Saba Rock. Kris and Aneta were troopers for our White Party wine tasting dinner and Scuby Doo night. Oh the laughs! Thank you for a truly magical week! Also a big thank you to you Lynne and Carefree Yacht Charters. From our very first interaction, you were attentive and knowledgeable. Your processes helped ensure a smooth vacation. We look forward to sailing with you again! Vicki N, Iowa

A couple that we booked aboard 50' Catamaran Scuba Doo in January 2023 said:

Good Afternoon Lynne!! Scuba gear is cleaned and drying. Chicken coop is cleaned and chicken feeders refilled. Laundry is done. Clients are back under control!! LOL Bags are unpacked...... I have been on 6-7 charter boats in the Caribbean and the Greek Islands. The last two charters I used you to book my trips and don't think I have ever been taken care of so well. From the initial inquiry, to answering questions, addressing special requests, following up and even checking with the charter crew to make sure I boarded the charter and disembarked. You are professional, thorough, and attentive....thank you. This last charter was the Scuba Doo with Captain Kris and Chef Aneta in the BVI. I booked the charter for my girlfriend and me to get some scuba diving in and to show my girlfriend the BVI. Kris and Chef were amazing and by the time the trip was over, I believe that I can count them as friends. The food Aneta made was delicious and Kris was a great dive master/instructor as well as a superb bartender. Kris and Aneta even went above and beyond to fulfill a special beach bonfire evening that I requested.  You and I both know that the success of a charter is greatly dependent upon the crew of the charter and I can say this trip was extremely successful!! Thank you again, Lynne....for another wonderfilled, memorable trip!! Keith & Jessica, Texas

After two years at the University his economical conditions changed and he had to return to his coastal town. This was the point at which he started perusing his maritime career. Meet the Crew

Crew photo

Hazel was born in Medellin Colombia and shortly after his family moved to the coastal Caribbean town of Capurgana, where his love for the ocean and the environment was curated. He spent his days freediving, spearfishing and spending time with the local fishermen.

He was homeschooled by his mother, and after studied statistics at the University. After two years at the University his economical conditions changed and he had to return to his coastal town. This was the point at which he started perusing his maritime career. From this moment he knew he was going to leave Colombia and travel the world.

He started working with local tourism, taking guests on day charters. He did this for three years, saving every penny to be able to apply for his passport and prepare for leaving the country.

He soon found a couple of cruisers who were sailing from his town across to Panama. With no concrete plan he jumped onboard and went to Panama looking for his next opportunity.

In Panama he found his first job, initially helping in the yard. Later moving on to the role of deckhand and chef. During this time he was able to get his 200T Yacht Captain license in Panama. more

Covid hit and the industry abruptly closed, forcing Hazel to seek another opportunity. This was when he started working for Sea Shepard conservation society. During his three years there he participated in many campaigns protecting marine life and doing scientific research around the west coast of Mexico. As well as multiple yard periods, strengthening his maintenance skills.

After almost three years at Sea Shepard Hazel decided he needed a change of scenery and travelled to the Caribbean to pursue his career in Chartering. He has spent the last two seasons in the Caribbean as a Captain building experience and fine-tuning his charter skills.

During this time Hazel & Yah Yah met working for the same charter company and bonded over the fact that they are both very thorough and hard workers. Their relationship blossomed and they soon started working on the same vessel. During their first vacation together they travelled to 12 countries in order to complete their Yacht Master Offshore and Dive masters together.

Yah Yah was born and raised on a self sustaining farm in the beautiful region of Cape Town, South Africa. She practically grew up in the kitchen with her nanny by her side giving the much needed supervision.

From making cheeses to processing meat, from pickles to preserves there is nothing that Yah Yah can’t make from scratch. Selling baked goods from the age of 6 at the local farmers market, cooking has been apart of her life since the very start.

Her love for the ocean was certainly sparked by the fact that their family farm bordered the coast. She was able to harvest fresh seafood directly from their property and spend her days on the beach cooking her harvest on the fire.

Scuba Diving from a Luxury Yacht

Scuba diving is a wonderful addition to any crewed charter vacation . Many of the most beautiful destinations in world are also home to gorgeous marine life that can only truly be experienced through scuba. The Virgin Islands, in particular, have some of the most beautiful dive spots in the world, and there are countless diving hotspots in different locations around the Caribbean as well.

Many of our charter yachts offer diving and are equipped with either a dive master or instructor to ensure that you’re getting the best experience possible, so whether you’re a beginner looking for an easy but awe-inspiring first dive or an experienced diver seeking your next challenge, you can trust in the ample diving experience offered on board your charter.

Who Can Dive?

Almost anyone over the age of 10 and in decent health can dive. Most yachts don’t offer full diving courses because they are time consuming, so becoming certified prior to setting out on a scuba expedition is a must. Certified divers need to bring their certification to be able to dive and complete a medical release form.

If you are an experienced certified diver, we’ll pair you with your ideal yacht charter, complete with divemaster or instructor. We can help you explore your diving options, from popular destinations to best kept secrets.

Many clients like to keep their hand in by diving several times during their week on board, yet not make diving the center of activities. Other groups may have just one or two interested in the occasional dive. Let us match you to the right option to suit your needs.

If you have never been diving, we can provide you with any and all information necessary to help you choose your starting point.

Rendezvous Diving

If you’ve found your ideal yacht charter, but it doesn’t offer diving, don’t worry! There are many rendezvous diving services available that the chosen yacht can set you up. In some locations that are protected by government restrictions, a local rendezvous dive company may in fact be the only way to visit.

Rendezvous dive companies meet your yacht and whisk off those in your group who wish to dive. Your yacht may then continue on with other activities and meet you in another location. If some in your group wishes to dive or you’d like to dive only once or twice during your week, then your crew will be happy to arrange a professional dive company to assist you with your diving outing.

Diving Requirements

Scuba certification can be a rigorous process, and while some yachts and many rendezvous dive companies offer diving courses, the best way to fully enjoy diving from your yacht charter is by completing dive courses beforehand. There are several options for becoming a certified diver, and diver certification can actually be started on shore and completed on your vacation.

Dive courses are made up of three different parts: academic training through textbooks and tests, water skill training which can often be done in a swimming pool, and open water dives, requiring 4 to 5 dives where you demonstrate certain skills over the course of two days.

While you can always complete an Open Water Diver Course before your trip, a more popular and often more practical way to complete diver certification is to finish up steps 1 and 2 of the diver certification program and complete your open water dive requirements with your chartered crew. That way, your first dives can be in some of the most beautiful and renowned dive spots in the world!

  • Tour the world’s most pristine scuba locations
  • Work with an experienced crew familiar with the best spots
  • Perfect for first-time divers and veterans alike

PLEASE READ THESE TERMS AND CONDITIONS (“ Terms ”) CAREFULLY AS THEY CONTAIN IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS, REMEDIES AND OBLIGATIONS AS WELL AS A SECTION GOVERNING THE JURISDICTION AND VENUE OF DISPUTES. THESE TERMS ALSO CONTAIN A LEGALLY BINDING RELEASE, WAIVER OF LIABILITY, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISK. By creating a username, a login, clicking submit, using the services of Charter Experts, LLC d/b/a Virgin Island Sailing® (“ Broker ) or by accessing Broker’s website, you agree that you have read, and acknowledge your acceptance of these Terms. The Terms are subject to change at any time without notice at Broker’s sole discretion. Additionally, any transaction for which you have made payment shall be governed by the form of Terms in effect at the time of such payment notwithstanding any subsequent changes hereto.

If you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring a Charter (as that term is defined in Section 1 below) for more than just yourself, all references below to “Charterer” or “you” (and derivations thereof) shall be read to mean you on behalf of yourself and each individual within your group for whom you are obtaining a quote, information, booking travel for and/or securing or procuring Charter.

These Terms shall be read together and construed, to the fullest extent possible, to be in concert with any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer. To the extent they cannot be so construed, then in the event of any direct conflict between these Terms and any other agreement by or among Broker and Charterer (including but not limited to the agreement executed by Charterer for a Charter Reservation (as that term is defined in Section 1 below), these Terms shall prevail.

  • Prepaid Charter Reservations . Typically, Broker negotiates charter rates in advance with the yacht owner or charter company (“ Charter Provider ”) to obtain cost-effective rates, and facilitate reservations and availability for yacht charters, excursions and travel (the “ Charter ”). Broker also provides services to you by facilitating the booking of reservations for consideration and receives a commission from the Charter Provider (the “ Broker Fee ”). The Broker Fee is included in the pre-negotiated Charter rate provided to you, plus taxes and other fees where applicable. You agree that your payment is for the total amount set forth in the applicable Charter agreement (which Charter Provider may refer to as a Charter Contract, Charter Agreement, Booking Terms & Conditions, Instructions and Terms for Accommodations, as well as other derivations) provided to you by Broker (“ Charter Agreement ”). Upon execution of the Charter Agreement and receipt of the applicable deposit, you will have made a reservation for the Charter that authorizes Broker to facilitate the Charter on your behalf (“Charter Reservation”), including making payment arrangements with the Charter Provider. You further agree that Broker is a third-party beneficiary to the Charter Agreement and shall have the right to enforce such agreement to the extent it deems such enforcement necessary or advisable to protect its rights hereunder or under the Charter Agreement.

Broker retains the Broker Fee as compensation in arranging your Charter Reservation. The Broker Fee varies based on the amount and type of Charter and/or services provided by Broker.  By making a Charter Reservation, you accept and agree to the relevant cancellation and no-show policy of the Charter Provider set forth in the Charter Agreement. Cancellation and no-show policies vary for each Charter. Carefully read the Charter Agreement and additional information provided to you by Broker. It is expressly agreed by Charterer that the Broker Fee is earned at the time the Charter Reservation is made. Late payment, wrong credit card or debit card details, invalid credit or debit cards, or insufficient funds are for your own risk and account, and you will not be entitled to any refund of any prepaid amount unless the Charter Provider expressly agrees otherwise under the Charter Agreement or in some other signed writing.

  • Charter Rules and Restrictions . Additional terms and agreements will apply to your Charter Reservation and any purchase or rental of equipment or other items, supplies, provisions and travel you may select. Please read those additional terms carefully. In particular, if you have purchased airfare, please ensure that you read the full terms and conditions of carriage issued by the supplier. You agree to abide by the terms of purchase imposed by any supplier with whom you elect to deal, including but not limited to payment of all amounts when due and compliance with the supplier’s rules and restrictions regarding availability, charges, fares, and use of products and services.
  • Payment . All payments must be made by personal check, bank/wire transfer, ACH payment and/or with a major credit card unless otherwise expressly stated. The total price for the Charter Reservation will be billed in U.S. Dollars unless otherwise stated. Some banks and credit card companies impose fees for international transactions. If you are making a reservation from outside of the United States on a US credit card, your bank may convert the payment amount to your local currency and charge you a conversion fee. This means the amount listed on your credit or bank card statement may be in your local currency and therefore a different figure than the amount provided by Broker for the Charter Reservation. In addition, a foreign transaction fee may be assessed if the financial institution that issued your credit card is located outside of the United States. Booking international travel may be considered to be an international transaction by the financial institution or card company. The currency exchange rate and foreign transaction fee is determined solely by your financial institution on the day that it processes the transaction. If you have any questions about these fees or the exchange rate applied to your booking, please contact your financial institution. Broker shall not be liable to you for any such service, conversion, or exchange fee.

Broker expressly reserves the right to cancel your Charter Reservation if full payment is not timely received as set forth in the Charter Agreement.

  • Cancellation and Rescheduling . You may cancel or change your Charter Reservation as set forth in the Charter Agreement by and among you, the Charter Provider and/or Broker. Please note that some Charter Providers do not permit changes to or cancellation of reservations after they are made, or after a certain date, as indicated in the Charter Agreement. You agree to abide by the terms of the Charter Agreement with respect to your Charter Reservation. Broker will not be responsible for reimbursing Charterer for any previously tendered deposits or payments by Charterer and disclaims all liability for the failure of a Charter Provider to refund or return any such funds.
  • Credit Card Transactions and Chargebacks . If for any reason, any Charter Provider is unable to provide the Charter, or any part thereof, for which you have contracted, your remedy lies against the Charter Provider, and not against Broker. However, Broker will use reasonable efforts to assist you and Charter Provider in reaching a resolution to a dispute between you and the Charter Provider. In the event that your payment has already been transferred from Broker to Charter Provider or to an escrow account, you agree that you will not seek a chargeback against Broker for such amounts transferred. You further agree to indemnify and hold Broker harmless from and against any liability, loss, damage or expense (including without limitation, reasonable attorneys’ fees) that Broker may incur in connection with chargebacks against Broker or under the Charter Agreement and your performance thereunder. If Broker incurs any costs, including but not limited to attorneys’ fees, to recover any payments charged back by your credit card company or other financial institution, you agree that you will be liable for these costs. If your payment is declined for any reason, you agree to settle any amounts owed to Broker via money order, cashier’s check, personal check or bank/ACH transfer immediately.
  • Broker Responsibility . Broker makes arrangements with the Charter Provider. Broker additionally makes additional arrangements with other suppliers for the various components and other services that comprise your Charter (“Charter Suppliers”). Broker is not an agent of these Charter Providers or the Charter Suppliers (and the Charter Providers and Charter Suppliers are not agents of Broker). Broker expressly disclaims any liability for the actions or omissions of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. The Charter Providers and the Charter Suppliers reserve the right to refuse service to you at their sole discretion. Broker assumes no liability for the acts of the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers in refusing service. Broker is not responsible for schedule changes and does not offer compensation for those changes. Broker is not responsible under any circumstances for any injury or damages you may suffer, in connection with sea, air or ground transportation, hotel accommodations, or other travel or excursion services arranged by Broker.

You understand Broker is not the source or supplier of the Charter or other travel services you requested and acts solely as a broker for the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers. You agree that the Charter Provider and Charter Suppliers whose names appear in the information supplied to you are those who are solely responsible for providing the Charter you purchase. You consent to and request the use of the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers and agree to not hold Broker responsible should any of them: (i) fail to provide the Charter or travel services you purchased, whether or not such services are listed in the Charter Agreement or otherwise, (ii) fail to comply with any applicable law, or (iii) engage in any negligent act or omission that causes you any sort of injury, damage, delay or inconvenience.

By using Broker’s services, you waive and release any claim against Broker, its affiliated and subsidiary companies, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, and agents, arising out of or in connection with any loss of or damage to property or injury to any person caused by reason of (i) any defect, negligence, or other wrongful act or omission, or any failure of performance of any kind, by any Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, or any other provider of sea, airline, hotel, ground transportation or any other travel provider connected to or otherwise associated with the Charter, (ii) any claim for inconvenience, loss of enjoyment, mental distress or other similar claim, (iii) any delayed departure, missed connection, substitute accommodation, termination of service or change in fares or rates, and (iv) overbooking, flight or other travel cancellation, lost or misconnected personal property, or any claim arising out of the air transportation portion of your travel, and (v) or any other claim arising out of or otherwise related to the Charter Agreement or services provided by the Charter Provider and the Charter Suppliers.

Excepting only liability that directly arises from the gross negligence or willful misconduct of Broker, you will not hold Broker responsible for any injury, damage or loss you may suffer while on a Charter, whether incurred on the Charter or in connection with any other rental, purchase, excursion or activity, regardless of the relationship of any of the foregoing with the Charter Provider or the Charter Suppliers.

  • Your Responsibility . By booking a Charter with Broker, you agree to defend and indemnify and hold harmless Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, and each of their respective officers, directors, employees and agents, from and against any and all claims, causes of action, demands, recoveries, losses, damages, fines, penalties or other costs or expenses of any kind or nature, including but not limited to reasonable legal fees, arising out of or in connection with: (i) your breach of these Terms or the documents referenced herein; (ii) your violation of any law or rights of a third party; or (iii) your use of the Broker website.

You will review your Charter Agreement and travel documents for accuracy upon receipt. You understand that it is your responsibility to review the accuracy of all details in the Charter Reservation provided to you, and that you may contact Broker if you have any questions.

You assume full and complete responsibility for checking and verifying any and all passport, visa, vaccination, or other entry requirements of your destination(s), and all conditions regarding health, safety, security, political stability, and labor or civil unrest at such destination(s).

You understand that Broker recommends purchasing travel insurance to cover certain risks inherent in travel such as supplier bankruptcy and the inability to travel due to a medical or personal emergency.

  • No Warranties . All Charters, products, services, advice and information is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis without warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied to the fullest extent permitted under the law, including but not limited to, warranties of title or implied warranties of merchantability, satisfactory quality or fitness for a particular purpose. Without limiting the above, no warranty or guarantee is made (i) regarding the acceptance of any reservation request or Charter Reservation; (ii) regarding the availability of Charters, or any other product and/or services through Broker; (iii) that the use of Broker’s website will be error-free; or (iv) regarding the completeness, accuracy, reliability or quality of any information, content, data, service, advice or merchandise provided by Broker or through Broker’s website.

Broker has no special knowledge regarding the Charter Provider’s or Charter Supplier’s financial condition, unsafe conditions, health hazards, weather hazards, or climate extremes at locations to which you may travel during or otherwise in connection with your Charter.

  • Limitation on Liability . In no event shall Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Suppliers, and/or their respective affiliates, or any employees, agents, officers, directors, members or managers of any of the foregoing (“Broker and Charter Releasees”), be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special or consequential damages arising out of, or in any way connected with, your access to, display of or use the Broker’s website, the Charter or services provided to you in connection with the Charter (including, but not limited to, your reliance upon opinions of the Broker), whether based on a theory of negligence, contract, tort, strict liability, consumer protection statutes, or otherwise, and even if Broker and/or any other of the Broker and Charter Releasees have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

If, despite the limitation above, Broker or the Broker and Charter Releasees are found liable for any loss or damage which arises out of or in any way connected with any of the occurrences described above, then Broker, Charter Provider, Charter Supplier and the Broker and Charter Releasees will in no event exceed, in the aggregate, the greater of (a) the Broker Fee, and (b) One-Hundred Dollars (US $100.00).

The foregoing limitation of liability reflects the allocation of risk between the parties. The limitations specified in this section will survive and apply even if any limited remedy specified in these Terms is found to have failed of its essential purpose. The limitations of liability provided in these Terms inure to the benefit of Broker and/or its providers.

The foregoing does not affect any liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

  • Waiver . No waiver by Broker of any term or condition set forth in these Terms shall be deemed a further or continuing waiver of such term or condition or a waiver of any other term or condition, and any failure of the Broker to assert a right or provision under these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
  • Severability . If any provision of these Terms is held by a court or other tribunal of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable for any reason, such provision shall be eliminated or limited to the minimum extent such that the remaining provisions of the Terms will continue in full force and effect.
  • Governing Law and Mandatory Venue . The laws of the State of Florida govern the rights and obligations of the parties to this Agreement and the interpretation, construction and enforceability thereof. You agree that any action or proceeding initiated by Charterer against Broker shall be brought solely in the federal and state courts of Hillsborough County, Florida, and you submit to the jurisdiction of those courts and waive any objections to the exercise of personal jurisdiction over you by those courts. In the event any action or proceeding is initiated by Charterer in a court outside of Hillsborough County, Florida, Charterer agrees to pay Broker’s costs and reasonable attorneys’ fees associated with defending such action or proceeding and waives any and all defenses to the transfer of said action or proceeding, whether jurisdictional or otherwise, to a federal or state court in Hillsborough County, Florida.

Yacht Charter Diving Explained

snorkelling in Fiji from a catamaran

Chartering a crewed yacht which specializes in diving is an ideal, yet relatively unknown vacation option for experienced dive travellers. After years of being funneled into large group trips to resorts or to liveaboard dive "cattleboats", many divers are looking for an alternative. A dive vacation aboard a crewed charter yacht offers privacy, custom-tailored schedules, one-on-one service, personal instruction if necessary, and the ability to choose dive sites to suit your interests.

A dive charter is also an excellent choice for novices. Beginners especially benefit from the individualized attention, pressure-free training schedules, patience, personal guides, and the one-on-one service that characterize dive charter yachts.

All members of the charter party do not need to be divers to have an enjoyable vacation. Non-divers will not be bored as most charter yachts offering diving also have 'on water' toys such as towable inflatables, jet ski, water skis and kayaks.

There are three basic ways we recommend that you can choose to mix scuba diving with a crewed charter yacht vacation.

catamaran dive charter

Dive-dedicated yachts

These are yachts, small or large, that are completely equipped to fulfill the needs of avid divers. These yachts are for experienced or novice divers who want to make diving the focal point of their charter vacation. They have sufficient tanks for two dives per day, scuba equipment; and an insured, experienced dive professional. If you, or a member of your party needs any kind of training, from Discover Scuba (Resort course) or Openwater checkouts (Referral course), to Advanced or Specialty certifications, then one of the crew must be a dive instructor. Most of the dive-dedicated yachts have an onboard dive compressor or an efficient plant for ensuring a regular supply of airfills for the desired number of dives your party requires.

catamaran dive charter

Dive-oriented yachts.

These are yachts who are seriously interested in having divers aboard, but who have not made the full commitment that the dive-dedicated yachts have in one or more of the important areas of equipment, airfills, or instruction. There must, however, still be an insured diving professional (dive master or dive instructor) aboard, and if any training is to take place then the dive professional must be an instructor.

Rendezvous diving

Any yacht in the fleet can coordinate with shore-based operations throughout the US or British Virgin Islands to take interested members of your party for a morning or afternoon of diving activities, subject to availability. Most dive centers are willing to drop off the divers at a different destination than where they picked up, thus allowing the non-divers to sail to a different anchorage if desired, while the others are diving.

There are many options for a non-certified diver aboard a dive charter yacht from those who want to experience diving (testing the water, so to speak!) to those who desire to take a full Openwater Diver Course and become certified on their vacation.

Discover Scuba Diving with a 'Resort' course. This course is designed to introduce the dive experience. It consists of an orientation, teaching of fundamental skills in calm water shallow enough to stand up in, and a controlled dive under the supervision of the instructor to a maximum depth of 40 feet.

Open Water Diver Course. This is the basic scuba diving certification level. The course consists of three parts:

  • Academic training by textbook, lecture, and video, with accompanying quizzes and tests
  • Water skill training in calm, pool-like conditions
  • Open Water Checkout Dives which are four to five dives with prescribed exercises to be accomplished in each dive.

Referral Course 'Open Water Checkout Dives'. This is the ideal and most popular way to become a certified diver. The student diver takes the academic and pool sessions at home with their local dive shop and completes the Open Water Checkout Dives in the warm, clear water of the Caribbean. This allows more time for diving and other activities rather than bookwork.

Ages 8 and over may participate in PADIs Bubblemaker program. Maximum depth limit of 6 feet.

Ages 10 - 11 may participate in Discover Scuba experience programs and can earn restricted certification as either a PADI Junior Scuba Diver or Junior Open Water Diver. PADI Junior Scuba Divers are limited to a maximum depth of 40 feet and may only dive with a PADI Professional. PADI Junior Open Water Divers are also limited to 40 feet, but may dive with a PADI Professional or a certified scuba diver parent or guardian.

Ages 12 - 15. Divers in this age range earn junior certifications and can dive only when accompanied by a certified adult scuba diver. During training, these divers are limted to 40 feet for Dives One and Two and 60 feet for Dives Three and Four. Divers in this age group are limited to a 70-foot depth for all other PADI continuing education courses.

Enhance your cruise

We can organize a transfer for you from the airport to our base in Marin:

Consult the prices online [here]

Your driver will be waiting for you in the arrival hall of the airport and will take you to our office in the Marin Marina (distance 30km).

It takes around 2 hours from the moment of landing until arrival at our base.

Your skipper prepares and takes charge of your boat, catamaran or monohull of your choice.

He is responsible for navigation and takes care of customs procedures.

But above all, it makes you discover the best anchorages and places in the islands so that you can make the most of your vacation.

If you have made the choice for a hostess, hotel service on board is guaranteed. Before your arrival she can take care of the supply.

You can either participate in the preparation of the menus, or leave your choice to your hostess.

During the cruise, she mainly takes care of the cooking and can prepare Creole dishes with local products; fish, lobsters, etc.

Rental with or without a hostess, our services offer a personalized supply formula.

Provisioning with crew

We will establish for you an overall budget (on-board cash register) which covers:

– full board, – customs fees (“clearances”), – the consumables of the boat (fuel, fresh water, etc.), – any mooring costs.

this service is “all inclusive”.

Unmanned bunkering You do not want to contract a hostess :

– you organize your refueling you make your menus. – you have the possibility of ordering your supplies in advance with delivery on board your boat.

We can provide you with lists but there is also the alternative of ordering by internet from our partner

Near the Marin and the marina

– presence of several supermarkets (Champion and Leader Price at 3km, ED at 300m) Monday to Saturday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. / Sunday and public holidays 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. – local market is open every day from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. – a minibus service can take you there.

During the cruise with your skipper

– customs duties “clearances”, – expenditure on consumables for the boat (fuel, fresh water, etc.) – any mooring costs.

Money and cash

– it is desirable to have money in cash, – around 200 US $ for 8 people for 1 week.

Your vacation will be sporty.

– navigation, – swimming, – diving with fins, mask and snorkel (provided).

Want more ? … and thanks to partners we can offer you

– scuba diving – sea kayaks – windsurf boards

In the islands, many diving clubs offer their service (outing, supply of equipment).

Sailboat Preview: Lagoon 43

  • By Cruising World Staff
  • June 6, 2024

Lagoon 43 catamaran

Details are starting to come out about the Lagoon 43, which is scheduled to make its debut in September at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Lagoon 43 catamaran deck

This boat has naval architecture by VPLP Design, exteriors by Patrick le Quement, and interiors by Nauta Design. It’s a team that has produced a winning combination of elements on other models in the past.

Lagoon 43 catamaran

The Lagoon 43 is the third-smallest model in Lagoon’s lineup, intended for cruising couples or young families. Owners can order the Lagoon 43 in a three- or four-stateroom version that’s outfitted with between six and 13 berths—and the staterooms are larger than on previous models, meaning there’s room for families to grow or to welcome friends on board.

In the three-stateroom version, the entire starboard hull is an owners’ suite. In the four-stateroom version, that hull is split into two en suite staterooms. Either way, the owners’ berth is forward, in a location that’s undisturbed by engine noise for a good night’s rest.

Lagoon 43 illustration

Another new element on this model is redesigned access via an extra aft entryway for each hull. The idea is to make it easier for people moving between the boat and the dock.

Lagoon 43 galley

The dining space can seat 12 people, making dinner parties on the hook a comfortable experience with a great view of the surroundings.

What are the key specs on the Lagoon 43? Length overall is 45 feet, 6 inches; beam is 25 feet, 2 inches; and draft is 4 feet, 5 inches.

How to Charter a Boat

If you want to sail off into the sunset, at least temporarily, you need to understand how to get aboard first.

An illustration of the bow of a boat with three women with flowing hair and cocktails looking over a man playing a guitar and then off in the water, four other vacationers are sunbathing on inner tubes.

By Lauren Sloss

This time of year, it’s an inevitable thought: Life would be that much better out on the water. Specifically, on a boat.

Even if you have neither a boat nor boating experience, it’s never been easier to make your nautical dreams come true — whether you want a day trip on your local lake or a fully staffed multiday voyage in a far-flung locale. Here are the initial questions that will help you plan an adventure on the water.

Whom are you traveling with?

Thinking about the size and dynamic of your group is an important first step, even if you are simply going on a day trip. Will children be on board? How old? What about elderly parents?

Dan Lockyer, the chief commercial officer of Dream Yacht Worldwide , strongly encourages travelers to determine group size — and, ideally, get people committed — before booking.

“The location that you want to go to, the time of year that you want to go, the type of boat that you want will entirely depend on the makeup of the group that you’re sailing with,” Mr. Lockyer said.

Do you want to captain, or do you want a captain?

Different charter companies specialize in certain locations, types of boats, itineraries and services. Some companies offer the opportunity for a “bareboat” charter, in which you rent the boat and take on the navigation and provisioning yourself, while others exclusively offer fully staffed options, including a captain and a cook.

If you want to captain the boat yourself, almost all outfits require some kind of proof of sailing or boating experience, often in line with local regulations.

Edward King, 45, an executive at a streaming company based in San Francisco, is experienced in sailing the city’s waterways. But on vacation, he said he would prefer to let a captain and crew take the lead.

Mr. King said he appreciates a captain who is familiar with both the local waters — “they’ll know how to avoid sailing into a certain sandbar,” he said, — as well as the local attractions.

In contrast, Matt Blake, 38, a software engineer based in Oakland, Calif., was eager to grow his sailing experience during a recent trip to La Paz, Mexico, with his fiancée. He hired a captain but made clear that the captain was there to help and teach.

Where do you want to go?

“Do you want something that’s more culturally oriented? Nature oriented? An adventure trip?” asked Mary Curry, the voyage product director of Adventure Life , which offers small group tours and private trips on land and on water around the world.

That answer can determine your destination. Popular cruising grounds include the Caribbean, Croatia, Alaska and French Polynesia, but the sky — or the sea — is really the limit. For help narrowing your focus, travel advisers often have relationships with charter companies or outfits around the world, and sailing publications offer recommendations.

Kyla Malkani, who has had experience with charters working as a destination wedding planner, recommends consulting the concierge of waterfront hotels, particularly for short-term or day rentals.

“A lot of times they will have either their own fleet or they will have some sort of connection at a dock,” said Ms. Malkani, 37, who is based in Washington, D.C., and is currently working as a content creator and freelance event planner.

What kind of boat?

Where you want to travel and for how long will likely determine the kinds of boats that are available to you. Crucial at this point, too, is an understanding of the boat’s layout and amenities.

“You definitely want to choose the right kind of boat,” said Ms. Malkani. “If you want more adventure, a sailboat is nice. If you’re looking for a luxury party environment, a yacht is best. And if you’re looking for something smooth, for older people or with kids, a catamaran is great.”

David Barclay is a luxury travel adviser who has also chartered boats for his own vacations.

“You want to match what the travelers want to what the boat offers,” he said.

Perhaps a group of friends might not mind a catamaran with functional but not luxurious marine bathrooms, but a multigenerational group might prefer more high-touch amenities.

When should I book?

Often, charter trips are once-in-a-lifetime experiences that require a great deal of advanced planning.

“You may have a specific place you want to go, or a specific time of year you want to travel,” said Mr. Barclay. “And some places just aren’t good at certain times of year.”

Naturally, you don’t want to be at sea in the Caribbean during hurricane season, or in the Mediterranean during winter storms. But you also might want to avoid peak cruising seasons, too.

The first three weeks of August are quite popular, said Mr. Lockyer. “If you have some flexibility and can travel in early July, you’ll get the same sort of great weather, a greater selection of boats and the anchorages won’t be as crowded.”

How much does it cost?

Charter costs are incredibly variable, dependent on all of the factors coming into play: your boat type and size, your destination, your group size, the amount of crew you’d like and the amenities on board. That said, costs could range anywhere from $2,000 for a day on a sailboat to hundreds of thousands of dollars for a multiday mega-yacht charter. Have a budget in mind when beginning your research process.

What if I didn’t plan far in advance?

While advanced planning is encouraged, and often necessary for bigger boat trips, it’s possible to book a boat last-minute.

Boatsetter , an Airbnb-like platform for boats, is a good resource for last-minute bookings, especially for day trips, and even has an Instant Book option for down-to-the-wire bookings.

“If it’s for a special event, or around major holidays, you may want to book a month or two in advance. But for general bookings, you can find options within a week or two,” said Kim Koditek, Boatsetter’s head of brand strategy and communications, of the company’s overnight offerings, which appear on their platform under the luxury yacht charters category .

Ms. Malkani has used Boatsetter for some of her charters, most of which have been booked with a specific goal in mind.

“I’m a sunset chaser,” she said. “My husband and I just really love being on the water, and we always try to squeeze in some sort of boat day activity when we’re traveling.”
