She is available for luxury private charters for up to Six guests. Our highly trained Skipper & crew will make you feel like a Million Dollars while you cruise along this beautiful section of the River Thames.

• Day trip to Windsor (this will take about 7 hours due to the locks) arrange to stay in a hotel overnight and we will wait and bring you back the next day.
• Day trip to Richmond, it takes about 2hrs to get there, 2 hrs to get back, we can drop you off while you have lunch or do a bit of shopping and then arrange to bring you back.
• Trips to London are possible but all timings need to be carefully planned around the tides

About The Hampton

The boat, the crew, the story:

The Hampton was built in 2002 and is a French built Jeanneau Prestige 36 with flybridge:

• Upper flybridge outdoors seating with sun canopy
• Lower deck outdoors seating with sun canopy
• Inside seating with heating if required
• Master bedroom (should a small guest need to sleep)
• Music system to play your own music from a CD or Bluetooth device

Tracey Robinson & Joanne Harbottle have lived in Thames Ditton for over 15 years. Tracey qualified as a skipper over 6 years ago and has spent many hours navigating the River Thames on various boats. Tracey & Jo own Broadoaks Country House in Cumbria and between them have over 40 years of hospitality experience, Jo also owned Jo Clarks wine bar in Guilford for over 20 years.

During lock down Tracey perfected her cocktail making and loves nothing better to shake up a little something when required. She has come up with a selection of Original cocktails for The Hampton that can be served during Capitan’s cocktail hour, click this link to see the full bar tariff.

Jo & I love living on the Thames and we particularly adore the non tidal section of the Thames. Our love of boating and the hospitality industry inspired our vision to set up The Hampton Partnership. We look forward to making your trip as special as possible.

Cruises begin and end at the riverside lock mooring for East Molesey Lock, opposite the Thames Ditton Motor Yacht Club (see below image).

There are pay-and-display car parking spaces available at Hampton Court Railway station. If you are coming to Hampton Court by rail, East Mosely Lock is only a 5 minute walk from the station.

Hampton Court is served by half hourly trains from London Waterloo.

Cancellation policy? You may cancel your booking and receive a full refund up to 48 hours in advance of your trip. This is normally close enough to the date to have confidence in the weather forecast. No refunds are given for cancellations made with less than 48 hours notice.

Bad weather? If weather or river conditions for your trip are forecast to be ‘bad’, we will attempt to contact you the day before to discuss whether to proceed with your trip as scheduled or offer you an alternative date. We assess ‘bad’ weather based on the bbc.co.uk forecast for Hampton Court predicting more than a 50% chance of heavy rain during the time-slot for your booking. If your trip goes ahead, guests may choose to sit inside. No refunds are given for cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice.

Safety The Hampton has passed an independent examination of the safety requirements set out in the Boat Safety Scheme (BSS), an initiative owned equally by the Canal & River Trust and the Environment Agency. In the unlikely event of an emergency please follow instructions from your skipper. Buoyancy aids or life-jackets are available to all passengers on request. Children aged 3 years or younger must wear a buoyancy aid at all times and we recommend children aged 4-14 also wear buoyancy aids or life-jackets.

Accessibility? We regret there is no step-free access to our boat and we are unable to accommodate wheelchairs. Your skipper and crew will be at hand to help passengers step on and off the boat.

Toilets? The Hampton has a bathroom and toilet facilities on board.

Pick up locations Our usual pick up spot is at East Mosely Lock on the Hampton Court side, see location here . There is a map and more detail on our ‘Contact’ page. One of our team will phone you 15 minutes before departure to make sure you find the exact location. For special events we can provide pick-up and drop-off at other locations such as waterside hotels or restaurants. Please ask via [email protected] or call 07801 612829.

Car parking? Please allow plenty of time to drive into Hampton Court. Traffic and car-parking can cause delays at peak times, including sunny weekends. 24-hour pay-and-display parking is available at Hampton Court Railway station.

Can I bring my own food and drink? We provide food, unlimited soft drinks and alcohol onboard The Hampton. We also have a licence to sell more drinks if needed. For this reason we do not allow guests to bring their own alcohol on board. If you have any special drink requirements then please let us know in advance as we can usually accommodate most requests.

Children? Well behaved children are welcome aboard subject to them being accompanied by at least one responsible adult. The maximum number of passengers for each trip is 6 people which includes children over the age of 12 months. Children aged 3 years or younger must wear a buoyancy aid at all times and should travel seated on the lap of a responsible adult.

Dogs? Dry and well-behaved dogs are welcome aboard, at the owner’s risk. Dogs should not be allowed to swim from the boat.

Music? You are welcome to bring your own CD or use our Bluetooth system to play your own music. Music must only be played at a moderate volume. We have various USB charging points should you need one.

London itself has been a port of sorts since the dawn of civilsation. The Romans overwhelmed the Britons who often fought back with Queen Boudicca famously burning the city to the ground. Castles and Palaces line the river from the Tower of London to the seat of power Westminster Palace, Greenwich Palace (on the East/West Greenwich Meridian) and then further upriver, Hampton Court Palace and Royal Family's residence at Windsor Castle.

Beyond Britain's faded glory of old, the Thames is still one of the UK's most important waterways. Dozens of river and canals feed into it from the River Lea in the east to the Grand Union canal in the City that combined give it waterborne links to much of the South East and even the West Midlands. It is even possible to take a narrowboat all the way from the city to the Bristol Channel and the mighty River Severn in the west of England via the Kennet and Avon Canal that joins at Reading.

That means you can enjoy a sightseeing cruise with the views and sounds of one of the world's greatest capitals that has been around since the dawn of civilisation without having to worry which arch you should be passing under and dealing with the rebounding boats' and ships' washes from the embankment in what can be tricky tidal currents!

Perhaps on a party boat with champagne flowing or on a luxury yacht charter in Central London you can concentrate on the fun to be had and enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the world's greatest capitals, embarking and disembarking on one of the Port of London's main pier embarkation and disembarkation points.

Teddington Lock to Reading can still be done in luxury and comfort, perhaps having your wedding reception afloat as you pass Windsor Castle and Hampton Court Palace, taking in relics of Britain's great past.

This section, past Marlow, Henley and on up to Oxford and the West of England may be considered the Upper Thames. From Teddington west the waterway depth is protected by the lock and this means that the amateur boatman or sailor can more competently take a bareboat cruiser charter upriver.

How To Get To the River Thames

One of the longest rivers in the UK, the Thames runs past some of the most important road, rail and air links in the country.

Tube: For a Central London party boat or dining cruise you can access a pier for the start of the cruise in locations including the Embankment and Pool of London. These are a short walk from the Tube.

The West London boroughs of Richmond and Teddington are both on the District Line of the Tube, with an Overground train station also at Richmond.

Rail: London's major railway stations connect to destinations all over the UK and via St Pancras to Europe via the Eurotunnel.

Road: Much of the Upper Thames lies on the M4 corridor with good road links to Reading, Windsor, Oxford, Marlowand Henley.

Suggested Sailing Routes on the River Thames

Windsor - Reading - 7 Days: From the historic town of Windsor you can take your private charter or family charterboat up past the tows of Maidenhead and Marlow to the twee town of Henley-on-Thames, home of the famous rowing boat regatta. Reading at the mid-point of the cruise is a buzzing commuter town with a variety of top restaurants and excellent nightlife. For the next three days you return downriver.

Best Times To Rent A Yacht on the River Thames

The boating season runs from late April to mid September on the UK inland waterways, though you will see hardier types afloat throughout the year. Unlike the Solent, it never gets frantic on the water Upper Thames or Kennet & Avon Canal though it is a popular place for boat owners to keep their craft. A canal or riverboat charter can be done at any time through the year and you can expect a place to eat at a pub and a mooring without having to book too early or plan too far ahead.

Sailing Weather on the Thames River

April and May: Westerlies prevail but you will often find warm days with brisk sailing conditions of a F4-5. Gales will come through earlier in the year. This is Britain - expect rain!

June-August: In June there will be southerly and westerly gales at times but these tend to die out in July and August with the Azores High moving north and providing settled conditions and light easterlies. Expect temperatures in the high 20s C range with the odd few days at 30C plus. As ever, keep your oilies to hand as even in the height of summer things can change.

September-October: Grey skies and gales start to return. While often in the high teens Celsius in September with some great sailing conditions, the westerly procession of lows start coming up the English Channel and things can get a little uncomfortable by early October.

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a captain, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

There are dozens of marinas on the River Thames from Kent to Oxfordsrent. Just outside of the M25 and near Staines-on-Thames is the largest inland marina in the UK, Penton Hook Marina with over 500 berths. Inside the M25 in West London is Shepperton Marina with 400 berths - both cater to everything from narrowboat to motor yacht to luxuryyacht private boat rent.

May to August is best for sailing, though it can get very busy. If you take a River Thames boat charter outside of these times it won't be as busy, though at the end of June and the first week of July the Royal Henley Regatta can be at least as busy as Cowes on the Solent at Cowes Week - another important high society event!

You will typically pay 50% up front on reservation the yacht rent and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

Unless you are experienced on the lower reaches of the River Thames around Central London it is wise to avoid sailingon the tidal reaches below Teddington Lock. This even applies to experienced sailors London is a busy port that has bylaws that are in addition to the Collision Regulations. On the Upper Thames navigation is a lot quieter and simpler - you only need basic training to sail safely.

If you want to sail on the lower Thames without a captain then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. On the upper Thames, for small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a captained on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
