5 star all the way. Great location and beautiful boat. Everything was top draw and we couldn’t have asked for more thank you.
AISHA - MAY 2018
The boat was stunning and even more gorgeous than the pictures. So many lovely touches to make this a real home from home. Ideal for a great break with friends and family but with a quirky twist! Debs was the perfect host, available any time of the day both prior and during our stay. Such thoughtful touches really made our girl’s weekend even more perfect than we could have imagined!! Highly recommend to anyone looking for something a little special and different!

Answer: Jacamar, a floating hotel, moored at Salford Quays.
Designer Paul Astill has worked on the interiors of some of Manchester’s best known bars and restaurants - the Paradise Factory, Sankeys, Cane and Grain, Liars and, most recently Elnecot and Crazy Pedros.
He also has a thing about boats - and for a decade, when he needed a place to stay in the city, he shunned the usual hotel haunts to spend time on the boat he owns moored at Salford Quays.
“I’ve always been fascinated by boats – love them,” he explained. “I love their shape, the design, the way they fit together and I love being on the water. It’s very restful.
“I bought mine from an owner in Devon who had spent a fortune putting a yacht top on a 130ft hull. I had her refurbished and then towed up the coast to be moored at Clippers Quay and I stayed on her when I needed a base in Manchester.
“It was perfect. No-one really knew where I was.”
Three years ago, Paul bought a permanent base - on dry land to the north of the city centre. And this summer Jacamar was towed down the Manchester Ship Canal, to a dry dock in Liverpool, for a total refit.
“She has had a complete new look”, Paul said. “She wasn’t really being used and my idea is that she would be perfect for corporate lets - companies and executives looking for quirkier accommodation with space to hold meetings or give presentations as well as a lovely place to sleep.
“With the growth of MediaCityUK and the Quays generally I am sure there are lots of creatives looking for accommodation that offers something different.”
The first thing to know is that Jacamar is big.
And a proper boat rather than one of the yachts that line Mediterranean marinas. Much more Manchester.
From the gang plank, you head inside through glass doors into a stately, panelled dining room - complete with a table that seats ten at plush purple chairs.
The galley kitchen is a far funkier space, with tiles inspired by the Paradise Factory and big ovens. And, because Jacamar is not actually going to sail anywhere things don’t need to be bolted down.
The main space is vast, big enough to once have accommodated 90 people for lunch, with deep cream leather sofas, shiny wood floor and ringed by rectangular rather than round portholes.
The cabins are downstairs. But banish any memory of ferry bunk beds and instead think 5* hotel. There are just three suites, all with king sized beds, two with very cool shower rooms and the master suite with a free-standing bath surrounded by marble.
Head back up, pass the wheel house and a cosy club room TV space and step out onto a huge wooden deck with stylish sofas and great views over the water to Salford Quays.
Deepa Parekh is the founder of 7star Consultancy and has worked with Paul on previous projects.
She thinks the ship shape Jacamar is the perfect alternative for executives wanting a cool place to stay while they do business but also companies wanting to hire space for launches or lunches or staff events.
She said: “There is nothing else like her in the North and the re-fit is spectacular. I know clients are always looking for something different and Jacamar can be configured to suit all sorts of events.”
And, if any BBC execs do fancy staying on board Monday to Thursday, while they brainstorm at MediaCityUK it is going to set them back around £1,400.
