Lazzarini’s Swan-Shaped Mega Yacht Concept
The exciting new megayacht concept from Lazzarini Design Studio will turn some heads as the swan-like body sails across the water.
The 137m superyacht is shaped like a swan and boasts a detachable head that can be used as a separate boat.
The enormous bird-shaped yacht is named AVANGAURDIA, which means ‘vanguard’ in English.
As the name suggests, the vessel leads the way in cutting-edge marine design.
Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini penned the ambitious design.
The design company, based in Rome, has delivered on several innovative beings in the past few years, including flying cars, an amphibious catamaran named PAGARUS , and much more.
However, the waterbird-inspired mega yacht may be the most outlandish and innovative of the company’s designs.
The massive yacht is split into five decks and can accommodate up to 60 sea goers.
There is potential for even more guests when the yacht is dockside.
As for sleeping arrangements, the yacht can sleep up to 24 guests, 12 staff, and ten crew members.
There are many toys on board the ship.
There are two helicopters, which can be found on the top level, with two helicopter hangars.
Lazzarini’s innovative design, the jet capsules, is located aft.
An entire haul of supercars is also found on the superyacht, thanks to an expansive garage.
The yacht boasts many areas for socializing and sunbathing for the 60 guests, including a swimming pool and a jacuzzi.
The exterior of the yacht features flowing lines and curves that reflect the silhouette of a swan on the water.
The head of the swan is a control tower and acts like a brain for the vessel.
The inspiration for the head comes from 1970s Japanese manga.
It also doubles as a 16m cruiser that is perfect for daytime trips around the water.
A second control point on board will operate the boat while the head is used for a daytime jaunt across the water.
Like a real-life swan in the water, the head of the yacht that houses the control tower is perched on a flexible neck.
The neck uses a fulcrum to give it a full range of movement and lower the head into the water from its crow’s neck perch.
The head floating in the air while the vessel is at anchor cuts an impressive image.
When the ship is underway, the head lowers to the middle of the megayacht to help steer the vessel in the right direction.
The lowered head is exactly like a swan nestling its head into its feathers.
Specifications
The jet capsules that are located at the vessel’s rear can be used for increased propulsion.
Lazzarini has developed several innovative water transportation, and the jet capsules are just one amongst many.
The watercraft is fully customizable to the smallest detail and can serve as a private vessel for up to 20 passengers.
The egg-shaped mini-jet cruiser can be connected to the rear deck for extra auxiliary propulsion or disconnected and work independently to cruise people around the waters.
The swan’s power comes from the twin electric side engine and a central MTU Roll’s Royce engine.
This setup has the potential to push the yacht to a cruising speed of about 18 knots.
It remains just a concept at this stage, but the design studio says it could become a reality as soon as an investor is ready to commit to the concept.
The design company is confident that the yacht can be built and would require a $500 million investment from a potential buyer.
Lazzarini’s motto is ‘Think about the future but never forget the past,’ which can clearly be seen throughout his work.
Lazzarini’s unique and visionary concepts include automotive, aerospace, architecture, and yacht design.
His team of designers, engineers, and dreamers is creating some of the most innovative prototypes in the world.
With his Wally yachts, Lazzarini pioneered using carbon fiber as a building material, revolutionizing the yacht-building world.
He entered the yachting scene in the 1990s with his futuristic ideas, innovating in the relatively stagnated yachting industry.
The jet capsule is one of Lazzarini’s most highly awarded and praised designs.
The egg-shaped fiberglass yacht was the beginning of the designer’s most innovative concepts.
When Lazzarini was asked why he chose the concept of a Swan for AVANGUARDIA, he answered that he finds nature to be a source of inspiration because of its innate perfection and that the swan is the very definition of elegance and grace.
The swan-shaped yacht is the first of six animal-shaped watercraft concept yachts that Lazzarini has presented.
The PRODIGIUM is a monolith-inspired vessel that looks like a shark rising out of the water.
The yacht supersedes the AVANGUARDIA in size, measuring in at an enormous 153m.
The vessel will be the largest superyacht on the water if ever built.
The PAGARUS is another innovative design from the studio company.
The catamaran will have the ability to scuttle out of the water like a crab.
Lazzarini noticed a growing space in the industry for luxury off-the-grid vessels and designed a vessel to meet that need.
The PAGARUS, the Latin word for crab, was initially designed for military applications.

The Superyacht Concept That Looks Like a Swan
It’s a bird . . . it’s a plane . . . it’s a superyacht? Meet Avanguardia, the newest concept mega-yacht that looks like a swan.
What started as a fantasy of Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini has become a project with real-life potential—all it needs is a shipyard to get it off the ground.
Originally built out from a construction crane, the boat’s innovative “neck” is what turns heads.
The superyacht can perch in the shape of a swan when its head is high in the air, or extend flat onto the water where it transforms into a tender.
The elegant design was far from easy to realize and took more than five years and six iterations before settling on a final shape.
In Lazzarini’s earliest configuration, the yacht’s head was a detachable aircraft, able to fly instead of going in the water, but the landing process was too complicated.
Other outrageous amenities include a car garage, helipad and storage facility for two of the design studio’s “jet capsule” tenders.
Lazzarini Studio will unveil six aquatic animal-shaped concept yachts over the coming months, meaning Avanguardia is just the first of more wild things to come.

Swan Shaped Yacht Unveiled for $500 Million
Swan-shaped luxury yacht concept with a detachable ‘head’ that acts as both the cockpit and a secondary boat is unveiled by an Italian designer for $500 million.
Italian designer Lazzarini has unveiled concept images for its latest superyacht – the aptly named 450 foot (137 metre) Avanguardia that resembles a swan.
This first-of-its-kind superyacht features a sleek ‘neck’ and an elegant body in an attractive layered design, intended to resemble a swan’s wings and feathers.
Any would-be owner of the Avanguardia – meaning ‘vanguard’ in English – can steer their vessel from the ‘head’ of the swan, which acts as its control tower.
The extraordinary swan shaped yacht, which stretches more than the length of a football pitch, would set owners back £376 million ($500 million).
But just like a swan can move its neck and head, the superyacht’s control tower can be moved down towards the water.
The ‘head’ is even detachable and transforms into an auxiliary 50-foot boat.
Passengers invited for a ride on the boat can descend a set of steps on the neck.
Avanguardia can accommodate up to 60 passengers on board, including 24 guests and crew, and comes with two helicopters, which can be stored in its two on-board hangars.
Lazzarini, designers of the concept yacht, says it also comes with two ‘jet capsules’ – mini vessels that can be used to cruise the sea on.
A Lazzarini spokeswoman said the superyacht is inspired by ‘1970s Japanese manga’.
‘The head of the swan works as a control tower to manoeuvre the megayacht,’ she said.
‘Due to an extendable crane located in the bow, in this case named the “neck”, the head can be dropped off and used as an auxiliary 16 metre [50-foot] boat.
‘During the sailing the head can adjust its position by lowering in the middle of the megayacht body.
‘Like a swan, the neck goes in the middle of the wings.’
She added: ‘Avanguardia is a a stylistic exercise that could become reality with a client able to invest $500 million for the construction.’
The superyacht also has five main decks and a Rolls-Royce jet engine which means it can reach 18 knots.

Lazzarini Design Studio unveiled the Avanguardia , a concept megayacht shaped like a swan with a movable neck and removable head.
Avanguardia, which is Italian for vanguard or avant-garde, is a seemingly fitting name for this uniquely shaped yacht that prominently features a swan head-like control tower above the rest of the ship.
According to the Rome-based design studio, the yacht was inspired by several 1970s and 1980s Japanese anime series that depicted the head of robots as command centers. But in terms of the specific swan component, its designer drew inspiration from a single anime: "Casshan", a series that featured a robot swan character pretending to be a woman.
Keep scrolling to see the yacht:
The neck of the swan head-control tower would be extendable and movable.
When the yacht is in motion, the neck and head could be lowered towards the middle of the ship and be used as the cockpit.
This maneuverability also would allow the neck to drop towards the water so the head of the swan could be detached and used as a separate 52.49-foot tender.
The Avanguardia adds about 65.62 feet to its length when the neck is lowered towards the water, increasing the total length of the ship to about 515.09 feet.
When the head is detached, the "top part" of the yacht would become the backup control tower.
The removable head isn't the only water toy on the megayacht: the rear of the deck could hold two electric Jet Capsules that are also designed by the company.
These Jet Capsules could be detached and used as separate watercraft...
... or attached to the structure of the yacht to serve as additional propulsion devices.
Besides the Jet Capsule propulsion, the concept ship is powered by dual electric side engines and a MTU Rolls-Royce Jet engine.
In total, these systems give the yacht a cruising speed of 18 knots.
The concept megayacht would have five separate decks that can accommodate up to 60 passengers.
Five other tenders — excluding the head — and two helicopters would be able to fit on the yacht ...
... which would have two hangars built-in.
In total, Avanguardia's beam sits at around 72.18 feet with a draft of about 21.33 feet.
If a client wanted to build the Avanguardia, Lazzarini Design Studio estimates that the total cost will come out to around $500 million.

$500 Million Mega Yacht Takes Inspiration From a Swan
- Michael Lozina
Yacht builder, Pierpalo Lazzarini, believes that a swan is “one of the most elegant animals” and sought to replicate that elegance on his new concept, the Avenguardia Swan Yacht. To achieve this, the design flows from front to back in a wavy streamlined fashion akin to a swan’s feathers with the star of the show being the swan neck-like control tower.
“The idea is to take inspiration from nature,” said Lazzarini, “We believe that nature already gives us the necessary design shapes to conceive new designs, so we based it on a swan—which is actually also our logo—because we believe it’s one of the most elegant animals in the way it moves, in the way it eats, and everything.”
Measuring at 137 metres, the yacht’s highlight is the swan neck control tower which can detach into the water, transforming into a 16 metre auxiliary boat. That neck didn’t appear easily, according to Lazzarini, going through six iterations before landing on the current one.
“Before,” said Lazzarini, “we had a real crane for the neck, which was working properly but it was not so nice in terms of design. The difficulty was to make it look cool and not like a crane.”
While the control tower is still attached to the yacht it can be raised or lowered to give you either greater visibility or for enhanced steering ability. Powering the craft, Lazzarini hopes that it can use two fully electric side engines capable of 18 knots in order to evoke the silent movements of a swan over water. Additionally, two jet capsules would act as auxiliary propulsion.
Big doesn’t quite get across the size of this yacht. With five decks there is space for 60 passengers including 24 guests, 12 staff, and 10 crew, plus two helicopters.
This is just a concept, but Lazzarini believes that it will become a reality if he could secure $500,000,000 in investment funds to begin construction. It isn’t chump change, but why would a swan-like yacht cost anything less?

This Swan-Shaped Megayacht Has a Detachable Boat That Functions as a Day Boat
By Ryan on 01/04/2023 10:07 AM
Designed by Pierpaolo Lazzarini of Lazzarini Design Studio , the swan yacht was dubbed “Avanguardia,” or “Vanguard” in English.
The deck areas on this swan yacht also include openings into the central areas of the boat’s cabins, and the upper level even looks to include space for multiple helicopters.
It’s quite a bit smaller than the aforementioned floating city concept, but it still boasts up to 60 guests, placing it well into the megayacht category of huge marine vessels.
And if that wasn’t enough, the incredible yacht also includes a day boat, a top-level helicopter pad, a pair of jet capsules, supercars aboard the ship’s lower deck, and still more...
The swan head can be lifted up to 65.6 feet (20 meters) from the fulcrum, located at the base of the neck, located on the boat.
When cruising, the day boat rests on top of the neck, acting as the swan yacht’s head and primary control center for the whole boat.
The yacht is meant to cruise with the control center lowered all the way into the middle of the megayacht as a major part of the steering control.
The width of the boat totals to about 72 feet (22 meters), with the boat sinking roughly 19.7 feet (6 meters) below the water’s surface.
The yacht is propelled using a pair of electric engines on each side of the marine vessel, as well as an MTU Rolls-Royce engine.
At full speed, the swan megayacht is expected to go up to 20.7 mph (18 knots), and you can even attach the pair of included jet capsules at the rear of the boat to add some extra speed.
To be sure, the design is just a concept and it’s unclear whether any investors or clients have time to bring the Lazzarini design to fruition. Still, it’d be pretty incredible to be able to see it in action.
If the swan-shaped yacht ever comes to fruition, and you’ve got the money to invest in one for yourself, prepare for the ultimate luxury outing on the water.
You can have your favorite 60 guests wow’d with ease aboard this megayacht, so hopefully the designers will see this thing through to market.

SWAN-SHAPED CONCEPT YACHT
Pierpaolo Lazzarini of Lazzarini Design Studio is known for his unique and extraordinary watercraft creations. Avanguardia is inspired by 1970s Japanese manga and features an extendable control tower that resembles the head of a swan.
The ‘head’ is detachable from the ‘neck’ and can be transformed into an auxiliary 16-metre boat, at which point the top part of the superyacht is then transformed into an auxiliary control tower.
Avanguardia is divided into five decks and could house up to 60 passengers on board, providing accommodation for up to 24 guests, 12 staff and 10 crew. She also houses two helicopters on board and is equipped with two helicopter hangars.
Lazzarini estimates the concept would take an investment of around $500,000,000 to build.

The Superyacht That Thinks It’s a Swan
The ugly duckling that became a swan(boat)..
- Writer Craig Ritchie
Yachts are all about graceful living. And in nature, few creatures are more graceful than a swan. At least that’s the view of Italian industrial designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini in his approach to Avanguardia, a remarkable superyacht that looks just like a swan.
Avanguardia is unlike anything else on the water. The 137-metre design boasts all the usual amenities that luxury yacht owners come to expect: twin helicopter landing pads, a built-in car garage so your Aston Martin or gull-wing Benz is always ready for on-shore excursions, a couple of Jet Capsule tenders, a swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, plenty of indoor and outdoor dining spaces, a fully climate-controlled wine cellar, no fewer than five decks to explore, and opulent luxury at every turn.
But the pièce de résistance in Lazzarini’s design is the vessel’s head and neck. The head is actually the pilot house where the yacht would be driven from, which doubles as a detachable 16-metre tender. The neck is in fact an elegantly shaped articulated crane, which bends forward and down to lower the head to the water as gracefully and gently as a real swan drops its own head down to feed.
While underway, the head and neck retract flush against the body “between the wings” to protect against shock damage when dealing with ocean waves. The head can then be raised to an erect position for optimal visibility when navigating in more restricted spaces, such as canals, fjords, and marinas.
Power for this yacht comes from a diesel-electric MTU Rolls-Royce hybrid system. Stretching 137 metres in overall length and riding on a generous 22-metre beam, Avanguardia draws just six metres of water fully loaded, allowing it to operate in comparatively shallow waters. A total of 24 guests would be served by a staff of 12 and a vessel crew of 10.
While Lazzarini has yet to sign a deal with a yacht builder to actually produce the design, the company notes that it has received serious interest from major shipyards in both Germany and Italy. The trick to executing Lazzarini’s vision will be in engineering the articulated neck—oh, and finding a buyer willing to part with the estimated $500 million U.S. purchase price.
While Avanguardia certainly raises eyebrows, it is a fully functional yacht, emphasizes Lazzarini. The unique head and neck appendage is an operable design based on existing technology already used worldwide to create detachable control cabs and articulating cranes for the construction industry. They just don’t necessarily look like swans.
And if the whole swan look isn’t quite your thing? The Rome-based Lazzarini Design Studio says Avanguardia is just the first of six concept yachts based around aquatic animals that it will present over the coming year. Literally, something for everyone. As Canadians, dare we hope one might even look like a giant beaver? Just imagine the possibilities that such a big, flat tail could hold for an extended swim platform.

There’s a swan-shaped superyacht and the head is a detachable boat
Published on Jul 25, 2022 at 9:25AM (UTC+4)
- by Alessandro Renesis
Last updated on Oct 5, 2022 at 1:41PM (UTC+4)
This swan superyacht is probably one of the most fascinating and spectacular vessels ever designed.
It’s called the ‘Avanguardia’ and it’s a 450-foot megayacht concept designed in Italy.
In fact, the name Avanguardia is Italian for ‘vanguard’ or ‘forefront’.
READ MORE: The latest Cupra is actually an ultra-stylish 26-foot yacht
The swan shape actually serves a purpose because the yacht comprises five separate decks and it can fit up to 60 seafarers.
The control tower is located inside the ‘head’ of the swan.
CHECK THIS OUT!
And aside from the fact that it’s visually stunning, it’s also a technical masterpiece.
The ‘neck’ of the swan is connected to the rest of the yacht by a flexible arm giving full of range of movement.
The head can be lowered all the way down to water level and used separately as a detachable 50-foot tender.
Lazzarini Design Studio, the company that created this, has thought of everything because there’s also enough room on this giant vessel to accommodate your supercars, your jets and even a chopper.
The heliport is situated on the top level and you can easily park up to 4-6 vehicles in the bowels of the ship.
To top it all off, Lazzarini has also added two two jet capsules located aft, facing the rear of the ship.
Power comes from a pair of electric motors and a Rolls-Royce engine located in the middle.
So this is basically a mid-engined hybrid.
The top speed – maximum cruising speed in nautical terms – is 18 knots, equivalent to 20 mph.
And the bad news; the swan superyacht is just a concept.
Lazzarini said it wants to build it but would need funding.
As things stand, the History Supreme, a 100-foot vessel built for a Malaysian businessman, is the most expensive yacht in the world at $4.8 billion.
The Avanguardia is nearly four times as big so it’s easy to imagine a price tag in the nine-figure range.

Penned by the motor yacht division’s resident designer, Jarkko Jamsén, the vessel aims to offer all the features of a superyacht in a significantly smaller package. It is distinguished by a large walkaround deck that allows seafarers to enjoy life on the water. The highlight of the exterior is the aft beach club. It is equipped with platforms that fold out like origami to create a generous waterside area of about 538 square feet.
Up top, the cockpit is equipped with a sunroof and sliding doors that can create a breezy, alfresco feeling when open or a cozy, protected vibe when closed. Below deck, the living quarters have a “home-like feeling” and can accommodate up to six guests via a full-beam owner’s suite, a VIP cabin, and a twin. There is an alternative layout that sees two spacious double cabins with a lounge area amidships if you want more room to relax. In addition, the crew quarters can sleep two crew.
Swan Arrow is expected to hit the seas next summer. She may not be alone, either. The yard also presented a new 80-foot sailing yacht called the Swan 80 at Cannes but hasn’t yet given an estimated launch date.

This time, the swan has inspired yacht builder Pierpaolo Lazzarini to create a mega yacht that has a striking resemblance to the waterfowl. The Avanguardia concept sports a uniquely positioned control tower situated atop a long "neck," which combines with the swooping lines of the yacht to make it look just like a swan.
