Vicem Launches Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge

Turkish boatbuilder Vicem Yachts has added the feature-packed Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge yacht to its 250-plus-strong fleet. 

Vicem prides itself on timeless design, total customization, and excellence in craftsmanship, elements that are evident in the new addition. 

True to its name , the 65 Classic Flybridge has lines that recall the golden age of yachting, with a Downeast style that is at once masculine and sleek, evoking the feeling of a boat that is both capable and beautiful. Hull colours are customisable, although a light-blue colour scheme has already proven most popular among potential buyers.

The 66-foot-long boat has an accommodations level that includes an en suite amidships master suite with an island king bed for the owner, while guests will stay in a spacious forepeak stateroom that also features an en suite. Both staterooms have a level of fit and finish usually seen on much larger builds, with rich woods and plush fabrics, and every detail is neatly taken care of.

Further, the accommodations level of the Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge has a fully functional private galley and a dining/lounge room for intimate meals that can also be converted into a third stateroom, complete with sliding doors for privacy when used as a guest cabin.

The 65’s main deck has a massive, full-teak cockpit with an L-shaped settee and a second dining table for alfresco dinners. The salon has another L-shaped settee, plus additional seating, and excellent natural light thanks to large windows. The two spaces are connected via a door with a frameless, electric window that creates a feeling of openness and continuity. An aft galley in the salon has a small bar area with a sink, icebox, and icemaker that services two alfresco Besenzoni bar stools.

On the boat’s namesake flybridge, there is a wetbar and barbecue, a third L-shaped settee, which can convert into a sunpad, and an outdoor helm with 17-inch Garmin screens.  Throughout all of these areas, Vicem’s trademark woodwork, capitalising on 3,000 years of Turkish craftsmanship, is on display. 

The 65 Classic Flybridge is powered by twin 1,350-hp Volvo Penta IPS pod drives or traditional, straight-shaft diesels, for a top speed of 32 knots and an eco cruise speed of 26 knots, and boasts Humphrey stabilizers (fin + interceptor) as well as a hydraulic swim platform.

The 65 Classic Flybridge can be constructed with fiberglass, but can also be cold-molded—a process the shipyard is particularly fond of for the quiet, sturdy, and soft ride it produces. The model comes outfitted with four 630 Amp lithium batteries, which are longer lasting than traditional ones, and enable the boat to operate for 15 hours without using the generators. 

With a fuel capacity of 1,056 gallons, the Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge has a considerable range that will tempt serious cruisers who have an appreciation for tradition, craftsmanship, and the ability to choose the exact yacht that they want.

Vicem Unveils 65 Classic Flybridge

Vicem Yachts, the highly acclaimed Turkish builder, just unveiled its new Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge, a yacht that’s notable not only for its Downeast looks but also because Vicem is offering it in both fiberglass and cold-molded mahogany with West System epoxy construction.

Either way, the 65 Classic Flybridge carries Vicem’s timeless design, with clean lines, a long sheer, and even a hint of tumblehome. Here’s a look that will never go out of style, and would be equally at home in Maine or Nantucket as it would be in the Med.

The new Vicem also has the builder’s trademark old-world craftsmanship, with an exquisite fit and finish throughout. The extensive use of wood also means that owners can have a high degree of customization in their yachts.

The 65 Classic Flybridge can be powered with Volvo straight-shaft diesels or Volvo’s IPS pod drives. With twin 1,000-hp IPS1350s, the boat is projected to have a top speed of 32 knots and an economical cruising speed of 26 knots.

On the lower accommodations deck, the master stateroom is full-beam amidships, with a walkaround king-sized bed and large, home-like en suite head. The VIP cabin is in the forepeak. There’s also a private galley with dining area between the two cabins; it can be converted into a third stateroom with sliding doors for privacy.

On the main deck, the new 65 has a full teak cockpit with an L-shaped settee and dining table. The salon itself has another L-shaped settee, casual seating and lots of natural light from large windows all around. The galley is aft, with a small bar areas and two al fresco Besenzoni bar stools. The door connecting the salon and the cockpit has a frameless, electrically operated window.

Up top, the flybridge has the upper helm, a wet bar, barbeque, and an L-shaped settee that converts to a sun pad.

The boat comes with four 17-inch Garmin chartplotter screens, Humphree stabilizers, and a hydraulic swim platform.

The Vicem 65 Flybridge , which made her U.S. debut at March’s Palm Beach International Boat Show, is a boat that should quickly make her mark on the domestic market. She is instantly recognizable for her old-school-cool, classically nautical lines. Indeed, her profile will be the thing that makes most boaters fall in love. But there’s more to this yacht than enviable aesthetic qualities.

Vicem, a Turkish builder, is renowned for its mastery of traditional cold-molded boatbuilding, wherein many pieces of thin wood veneers are coated in waterproofing epoxy, then layered over one another time and again to create the boat’s hull. The end product is tough to argue with. Cold molding generally produces hulls that are lightweight, strong and quiet. And the 65’s hull should prove no different.

Hull No. 1 will live in Florida with her owners, who requested customizations, like extra headroom throughout, (including 7 feet 4 inches in the salon). The owner not only has the means and desire to choose a $2,750,000 Vicem 65 Flybridge, he apparently is also quite tall. Some guys have all the luck.

A three-stateroom layout belowdecks features a forepeak master with an en suite head forward, as well as another somewhat unusual customization: An additional berth is accessible through the portside VIP. The space will mostly be used for the children, and an adjoining door between the cabins creates a de facto family suite. That’s a smart design choice made by a seasoned yachtsman, one that, in this case, was executed by a team of equally seasoned craftsmen.

On the 65’s main deck, a galley-up design drives home the point that this boat was built for family use: The designated chef for the evening need not be isolated from the onboard festivities. Fit and finish is another point of pride for Vicem, and the yacht’s woodwork, joinery, lacquer, stitching — all of it — promises to be at the top of its class. That’s something any discerning owner (and his guests) will definitely notice — and surely appreciate.

As for performance, the 65 will have twin 900 hp Volvo Penta D13-900s that are expected to give her a range of more than 1,000 miles at a slow cruise of 10 knots; at a fast cruise of 21.7 knots, she will be able to go 400 miles without needing to fill up her tanks. What’s more, the Vicem 65 Flybridge has a respectably sporty top end of 27 knots.

When you own a boat that’s this pretty, though, what’s the rush?

Vicem also gives the option to have regular shaft and rudder configuration or podded Volvo Pentas D11 725HP. The vessel can be powered to accommodate a top speed near 32-knots and cruise quickly at 25-knots for better range. The vessel is also more geared towards sustainable running with lithium batteries onboard, the 65 Classic Flybridge can potentially run on them for 15 hours or more which allows for clean, silent and more environmentally friendly operations. This would be pretty handy when anchored overnight.

Below deck is where a full-beam master suite and a large V-berth. The cabins are on either side of the galley/common area on the deck. The common area on the starboard side has a dining L-shape set-up which can in theory be partitioned-off from the galley and be converted to make a third cabin if that is needed. Typically the boat will run as a full two-cabin vessel.

Here's a look at what the Flybridge version of the 65 Classic model offers. It is a flybridge naturally because it has a secondary helm position here. The flybridge also turns out to be a nice al-fresco area for guests. Built-in settee on the port side is serviced by a couple of smaller tables. Aft of this position is more built-in seating but this time for a layout pad. The good thing is that the entire flybridge is covered by a hardtop. On the other side there is facility for grilling, a sink, fridge, ice-maker etc. Access to the flybridge is via a curved stair at the aft.
