Harmony 42 (2005-2009)

The Harmony 42 is a French production yacht that garnered attention for its innovative features and affordability. Designed by Olivier Poncin, the founder of Harmony Yachts , and built between 2005 and 2009, this sailing boat is a product of meticulous engineering and efficient production methods. The Harmony 42 is a versatile vessel, suitable for both cruising and racing, and offered a range of customisation options for potential buyers.

Performance and Handling:

When it comes to performance, the Harmony 42 doesn’t disappoint. The boat is equipped with a Volvo Penta engine, which can be upgraded from 40hp to 55hp as part of the optional Comfort Pack. This pack also includes a fully-battened mainsail, an extra battery, and a battery charger, among other features. The Harmony 42 is designed for easy and safe handling, with a well-geared and weighted steering system. It performs exceptionally well in varying wind conditions, making it a reliable choice for both novice and experienced sailors.

Interior and Amenities

The Harmony 42 offers a spacious and comfortable interior layout, featuring three cabins, a navigation area, and a large bathroom. The galley is designed for convenience, with a straight-line arrangement that makes meal preparation and serving a breeze. One of the standout features is the 200-litre fridge, which is both huge and cleverly designed for easy access to its contents. The Comfort Pack also added insect screens on the windows, enhancing the overall experience onboard.

The Harmony 42 had a unique design theme that combines a straight-stemmed hull with medium displacement. This makes it heavier than some of its competitors, which is advantageous for a cruiser. The boat offered three types of keels: a fin/bulb in iron, the same in lead, or a shallow-draught tandem keel. The rigging is also noteworthy; it features long spreaders and good mast support, making it simple, strong, and efficient. The hull construction incorporates a foam-core and Kevlar reinforcement, adding to its durability.

There is currently (Aug 2023) 1 used boat listing for a Harmony 42 on Yachtworld.com, Boats.com, BandofBoats.com and BoatTrader.com with a price ranging from €59,500

Those boats with heavy charter use are at the lower end of the scale; those with very little use and a high specification are able to achieve higher prices due to their better condition and history.

Depreciation Curve

A 2008 model would have cost around €299,000 with all factory fitted options.  This sum, allowing for inflation would now be worth €430,857 or USD $460,847.  

BUC Value gives an average valuation for a 2008 model in fair condition for its age as USD $87,600.

A 2008 model on the market today is listed at €59,500.

Depending on the specification of the vessel (the number of factory fitted options and any subsequent upgrades) these figures would suggest the depreciation on a 2008 model of approximately 81% over the last 15 years (Spend adjusted for inflation cf. BUC Value).

Harmony III is built with a GRP hull and GRP superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 14 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 16 knots with a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles from her 62,300 litre fuel tanks at cruising speed.

Onboard Harmony III has a range of toys and accessories to keep you and your guests entertained on the water throughout your stay. You'll be loving the huge adrenaline rush as you zip over the water on a Yamaha WaveRunner. Also there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. In addition there are wakeboards so guests can show off at speed. If that isn't enough Harmony III also features kayaks, bikes and kneeboards. When it comes to Tenders, Harmony III has you covered - with two tenders, including a 6m/19'8" Castoldi Tender.

Harmony III is available upon request for charter this winter. She is already accepting bookings this summer for cruising in the Mediterranean.
