2021 Invincible 46 Catamaran

  • By Randy Vance
  • Updated: March 11, 2021

Invincible Boats continues to gobble up market share like tuna devouring baitfish in the most competitive boat market of all: hardcore fishing boats, particularly serious offshore fishing boats. And it has proceeded to compete with a line that includes both center-consoles and some of the most exciting catamarans to hit the waterways.

Twenty-five years ago, boatbuilders began to bring forth cats, and while some anglers embraced them, most did not.

Invincible 46 Catamaran running off the beach

Why not? Cats get boaters to the fishing grounds through heavy seas in greater comfort, and they let anglers fish on a more stable platform that straddles waves as they move under the boat instead of cresting over them as h monohulls. But some early cats heeled outward in turns, giving the impression the hull might topple over until straight travel was resumed. Many old cats required an inordinate amount of horsepower to make speed but still didn’t attain expected performance. Comically, some “sneezed” as air and water compressed beneath the deck and between the sponsons got forced forward to sweep back over the boat.

Our test 46 Cat was powered with quad Mercury Racing 450R outboards. You might ask, “Why all that horsepower?” The simple answer is: Why not? This 46-foot platform carries crew in comfort and has all the accoutrement of a sport-fishing battlewagon. It would run well on less horsepower—say, quad 300s—but if spending a cool million or more on your boat—why scrimp?

Interior and Accessories

The helm station is wide enough to accept dual Garmin 24-inch displays, and our test boat’s system boasted chirp, side imaging and standard sonar, along with radar and autopilot. The hardtop is bonded to the console, and tempered-glass windshields protect the crew. Acrylic side curtains deflect wind from the speed, preventing lost hats. Despite the massive console, we enjoyed a clear view forward from the cushy chairs with flip-up bolsters.

Invincible 46 Catamaran helm displays

There are two rows of helm seats, each three seats wide. Behind these is the mezzanine area with an aft-facing bench that conceals a rigging station—fold the back down to reveal three compartments with drawers and tackle boxes. A cooler underneath that bench was equipped with a chill plate to minimize the need for ice. Even more tackle storage resides in cabinets on each side of the lounge.

At the foredeck, two large lounges with contoured cushions, folding armrests with cup holders, and comfortably reclining backs sit atop dual coffin boxes, accessed when one lounge or the other is lifted toward the centerline. Compartment dividers can be removed, turning three compartments per side into one large enough to ice fish.

Invincible 46 Catamaran cockpit seating

Most surprising was the spacious compartment inside the console, large enough for comfortably changing clothes. It is also equipped with a head and sink. Easy access to all electronics, batteries, circuit breakers and more can be found inside.

Invincible 46 Catamaran systems

The fishing cockpit has four livewells: Two in the deck at 72 gallons each, and two in the transom at 60 gallons each. Our tester sported a pair of dual tuna tubes, but if the owner opts out of them, the spaces can hold additional seating. There are so many rod holders on the gunwales and transom, you could just about close your eyes and slip a rod butt in one. A dozen rocket launchers in the hardtop and 10 more rod holders in the console’s side tuck through ports in the hardtop.

Considering its size, nimble handling and serious fishability, the Invincible 46 Catamaran is a tough competitor to beat.

Invincible 46 Catamaran outboards and transom livewells

These custom-built boats display none of the nasty characteristics mentioned above. In fact, the new 46 Catamaran, when properly trimmed—i.e., the outboard engines inward, and the inboard engines out—heeled sweetly inward in turns as sharp as we cared to make.

Morrelli and Melvin, famous designers of racing and power cats, drew this boat. Like all Invincible cats, the 46 possesses a hybrid semi-asymmetrical sponson design that is responsible for its comfortable maneuverability. The inside sponson walls are nearly vertical, while outside walls are shaped like a longitudinal cross section of a V-hull. The designers added a double step, and the overall effect is quick acceleration, comfortable turning, and a soft ride that will make you eager to fish—and run hard—in all but the roughest weather.

How We Tested

  • Engines: Quad Mercury Racing 450R outboards
  • Drive/Prop: Merc Bravo 1 FS 26″ x 15.25″ 4-blade
  • Gear Ratio: 1.60:1 (5.44″ HD gear case) Fuel Load: 305 gal. Water on Board: 0 gal. Crew Weight: 800 lb.

High Points

  • Overall fit-and-finish of this custom-built boat is clean, sturdy and striking.
  • Hawse pipes and inwale-mounted cleats ensure secure mooring that won’t mar the finish.
  • In-sole livewells are the most gentle on baits and a staple of tournament anglers.
  • Optional jump seats that replace the tuna tubes are too short for long-range comfort
  • Transom door is omitted and, in light of gunwale doors, the transom space would be better used for tuna tubes or jump seats.

Toughest Competitor

Competitors are rare for fishing Catamaran’s in the 46-foot LOA range, but Freeman Boat Works makes a beautiful 47 ($1,250,000 with quad Mercury Racing 450s) that boasts comparable handling benefits, and is generously equipped for the hardcore angler.

Invincible 46 Cat Boat Review

  • By Capt. Karl Anderson
  • Updated: February 1, 2021

Invincible 46 Cat running along the coast

Well established in the center console fish-boat market, Invincible has also dug deep into the catamaran genre with 35-, 37- and 40-footers. Continuing to push the envelope, Invincible’s all-new 46 Cat perhaps ranks as the coup de gras. A large, open, spacious, well-appointed boat, the 46 remains focused on fishing features and performance.

Balancing the trade-offs inherent within the cat design, the folks at Invincible have blended the need for storage, fishing features and comfort with equal measure. Cats offer a great deal of space all through the boat, and this 46 is no exception with plenty of room to walk around the console and huge areas in the cockpit and forward deck.

Invincible 46 Cat cockpit

Live baiters need not worry, as the transom hosts dual 60-gallon livewells, four tuna tubes, and a 72-gallon in-deck well in each hull. My test boat had a total of 75 rod holders, a molded dive door on the port side and four in-deck fish boxes, totaling 1,334 gallons of capacity.

The console houses a head, access to the main breaker panel, battery switches and electronics connections. The well laid-out dash features room for two 24-inch Garmin screens. The center-mount helm, binnacle, joystick controls and all control switches for systems reside under a beveled Plexiglas cover for easy access and visibility.

Invincible 46 Cat helm seating

Dual-row helm seating offers comfortable three-across seats with armrests. Aft of the second row lies a mezzanine bench for three with a large molded cooler with chill plates beneath.

The grid stringer system, vacuum-infused hull, deck and parts married to myriad quality components make for a strong, quality-oriented boat.

Performance and speed have become a hallmark of the Invincible brand, and the 46 follows that path. With quad 450 hp Mercury Racing outboards, the 46 cruised along at 4,000 rpm, making 50 mph while burning 62.5 gph for 0.8 mpg. Wide open, the 46 hit a blistering 78 mph in Florida’s Biscayne Bay, clearly keeping it in line with the rest of the Invincible high-performance models.

Invincible has been building serious offshore sport fishing boats since Alex Lipworth founded the company in 2006. Acquired by EagleTree Capital in 2019, Invincible’s fleet has grown to ten centre console boat models—four monohulls and six catamarans.

Less than two years after introducing its 46′ centre console catamaran, Invincible has a surprising new version. The first-ever production pilothouse power cat—the new and  improved 46′ Invincible Catamaran  which is available now.

Let’s take a look at Invincible’s newest design.

Invincible 46′ Pilothouse

Invincible-46-Pilothouse

Since the beginning, Invincible has gobbled up market share by building center consoles designed for serious anglers. The company makes two types of fishing boats, monohull centre consoles and centre console power catamarans. All Invincible boat models rely on innovative hull designs to provide superior speed, ride quality, and stability.

All Invincible monohulls use the innovative stepped vee ventilated tunnel (SVVT) designed by world-renowned  naval architect Michael Peters . Consequently, every monohulled Invincible boat offers fast performance, excellent stability, and outstanding fuel efficiency.

Invincible-46-Pilothouse

In 2017, Invincible tapped the design skills of acclaimed sailing catamaran designers  Morelli and Melvin  for their first power cat, the 40′ Invincible Catamaran. The hybrid, semi-asymmetrical multi-hull design they got was revolutionary. It allows Invincible’s catamaran boats to handle well at high speeds and lean inward during a turn.

Like  other Invincible catamarans , the new Pilothouse 46′ cat uses this patented hull design to create a stable fishing platform that straddles the waves, giving you a soft ride while keeping you dry. It offers the same range, performance, and 360-degree fishability as Invincible Boat’s original centre console 46′ cat.

Catamaran-Seats

With Invincible Boats, Sometimes More is More

Another telling trait of Invincible Boats are their polish and shine. Invincible builds saltwater fishing platforms with yacht quality finishes. This new 46′ Invincible Catamaran is no exception, but this one offers a bit more.

The Pilothouse is unlike anything seen before on a fishing catamaran. It offers sleeping space and comfort that rivals a comparably sized monohulled sportfisher.

46-Catamaran

The pilothouse seats up to eight people in fully air-conditioned comfort. Configure it with four helm chairs (with Shoxs pedestals and flip-up bolsters) and a small U-shaped bench. Or opt for two helm chairs and a large U-shaped bench, with or without a table.

Invincible-seating

This power cat offers two sleeping berths—one forward and one created by converting the U-shaped bench. There’s a portside mini-galley (sink and microwave) in the pilothouse and a full stand-up head forward of the helm.

Inside-Look

The helm itself can tick all your boxes with dual touch screen displays, JL audio, joystick controls, VesselView, and autopilot. Choose between Garmin or Simrad electronics.

On deck, you’ll find the same top-of-the-line fixtures that make Invincible boats outstanding fishing platforms that are also comfortable. That includes six insulated fish boxes (three port/three starboard), three live wells in the cockpit, and tuna tubes.

The mezzanine bench conceals a cooler and tackle/prep area. Forward seating includes generous lounge seating with armrests and cup holders, sitting atop dual coffin boxes. You can have your Invincible boat dotted with stainless steel rod holders and add a dive door too.

Like the original, Invincible’s new 46′ cat has an LOA of 45′11″ (14m) with a 12′ (3.7m) beam and a weight of 20,000 lbs (9,072 kg). The standard fuel capacity is 1,000 gallons (3,000 litres). That gives it a 600-700 NM range.

Ready to Upgrade Your Sport Fishing Boat to an Invincible?

As you might expect, the new 46′ Pilothouse requires a substantial investment. Although prices aren’t published, it’s expected to cost a little more than the ’46 centre console version, running in the $1.5–$2 million range.

Orders are already coming in, and production has begun at Invincible’s Opa-Locka, Florida facility. The first of this new and improved 46′ Invincible Catamaran line is expected to hit the water in the spring of 2022.

Invincible 33 Catamaran Boat Review

  • By Randy Vance
  • January 19, 2022

Invincible 33 Cat on the ocean

Invincible, one of the top boatbuilders leading the charge in high-performance fishing catamarans, recently added another model to its cat lineup, a 33-footer that tucks easily into private moorings and offers many of the same fishing features and comforts of its heralded larger siblings.

How the Invincible 33 Cat Fishes

With a 10-foot-3-inch beam and designed a clean layout around a single-level deck, fishing room abounds. Generous rod storage includes 47 holders strategically located on the gunwales, transom, leaning post and center console. The 33-footer also features dual 65-gallon livewells: one in-deck in the starboard sponson, and an oval well with a clear acrylic lid on the transom, pressurized and fed from a sea chest with four pumps.

To port of the transom livewell rests a pair of forward-facing drawers ideal for stowing extra tackle, lines and other gear, while four large fish boxes (two forward and two amidships) offer plenty of fish storage, and the pump-out incorporates durable gulper pumps instead of the often-temperamental macerators. To starboard, a transom door provides direct access to the dual integrated swim platforms doubling as outboard brackets.

The foredeck affords nearly 40 square feet of standing room, an elevated perch ideal for netting bait.

Invincible 33 Cat helm

Invincible 33 Cat Amenities

The console seats three at the helm and mezzanine while preserving wide walkways to transit fore and aft. There is ample room inside for a plumbed head, storage, and ready access to systems. A forward-console lounge sits atop a storage box, insulated to keep food or the catch chilled.

The triple helm and mezzanine seating module sits over a sizable, with a tackle center behind the backrest. Drawers, utility-box slots, and tool and leader holders stash a considerable arsenal, organized for access and efficiency.

Invincible 33 Cat bow seating

Handling and Running the Invincible 33

The 33-foot catamaran boat rides smoothly in rough water, is stable at trolling speeds and at anchor, and resists rolling in beam seas thanks to the Morrelli and Melvin “hybrid semi-asymmetrical” hull design that combines the characteristics of symmetrical and asymmetrical sponsons.

Invincible 33 Cat mezzanine seating

On the water, the 33-foot catamaran displayed superb maneuverability and response. With twin Mercury Verado 400s, the Invincible posted a 6.5-second hole shot, took just 11 seconds to reach 30 mph, and hit nearly 62 mph at WOT.

With a maximum power rating of 900 horses, a pair of Mercury Racing 450Rs or Yamaha 425 XTOs make an appealing option for anglers looking for more speed and acceleration.

Invincible 33 Cat Performance

Invincible 33 Cat livewell

With the hybrid hull styles, the Invincible boasts turn-hugging inboard sponson sidewalls and wave-deflecting outboard sidewalls, so it makes sharp turns without heeling. Even in quartering seas, its sponsons hold firm in the slop. The hybrid hull runs great in a chop and with the addition of double steps to break surface tension and release the hull from the water as bubble streams are introduced under the hull, the 33 Cat offers superb performance in a wide range of sea conditions.

Test Conditions

  • Weather : Sunny, 85 degrees
  • Location : Miami
  • Wind : Southeast 12 mph Sea State : Light chop Test Load : Three adults, 50 gallons of fuel, 100 pounds of gear
