Popular Sub-Regions in Greece
Mykonos yacht charters.
Mykonos yacht charters have attracted well-heeled guests time after time with the island's sugar-cubed villages combined with cosmopolitan allure. Mykonos' main attraction is undeniably its vibrant nightlife; amid its myriad seafront bars and clubs, partygoers dance till dawn under rose-gold skies. But this is not the island's only appeal.
Wander around the enchanting vividly-colored houses of Little Venice as the sun sets; savor a candlelit meal at one of its many fine-dining options (such as Nobu); and discover some of the magnificent bays such as Ornos . Of course, there are also a vast array of beaches to bronze on: from the iconic Paradise Beach to the hip and happening Psarou or the more tranquil Agios Sostis .
Vouliagmeni Yacht Charters
A Vouliagmeni yacht charter is highly exclusive, with the idyllic coastal town being a popular superyacht haven for vacations beginning or ending in Athens. Located 13 miles southeast of the capital, yacht charter guests can moor here with ease at its peaceful bay. It's an absolute must whilst you are here to take a dip in the emerald-hued waters of the lake, hugged by soaring cliffs and gently warmed by thermal springs. For the more adventurous, be sure to make the most of the bountiful underwater caves.
Santorini Yacht Charters
A Santorini yacht charter is a firm favorite amongst discerning travelers who fall in love with its endless, dramatic beauty at every turn. Dappled with whitewashed cottages and cerulean-hued domed churches tumbling down the hillsides of Oia to and up to the capital of Firá , guests have no shortage of backdrops for sunset tipples or sights to gaze at. Visiting the world-famous Red beach in nearby Akrotiri village whilst you are here is also a must.
Santorini is also superbly located for cruising towards the crystalline shores of Magganari beach on Ios island: an ideal location for snorkeling or taking out the toys.
Hydra Yacht Charters
Jetsetters have long adored Hydra for yacht charters , largely owing to its heavenly seascapes. The sheltered island enthralls guests onshore, who feel as if they have stepped into a bygone era: no cars roam around, just donkeys who hobble around its picture-perfect, labyrinthine streets and harbor. Soaring escarpments set the scene for sun-drenched meals under a lingering sun, with seafood served so fresh that it's practically dripping straight from the water. Admire also the innumerable secret coves and bays to be found here, many of which can be explored on your tenders.
Milos Yacht Charters
The luminous, volcanic island of Milos and its fabulously turquoise bays are a superyacht favorite, yet remain largely undiscovered to the wider public. But why do the elite cruise towards its shores? For the staggeringly beautiful beaches (more than 70 of them, in fact) perfect for bringing out the water toys.
The spellbinding Kleftiko bay , the geothermal Paliochori beach, and the surreal charms of Sarakiniko beach (with its moon-like surfaces flecked by countless caves) are popular spots here. Abound with ancient ruins, make sure you also pay a visit to the Catacombs of Milos near the village of Tripiti , and the achingly pretty hilltop Venetian Castle of Milos .
Highlights of a Greece Yacht Charter
A Greece yacht rental vacation offers an incredible selection of things to see and do. Here is our small selection of some of the most outstanding:
Don't Miss:
Shipwreck Beach : (Navagio Beach) a beach in Zante that's best accessed by boat and is famous for the large shipwreck lying on the sand.
Nammos : the most iconic beach club in Greece.
The Portara of Naxos : a doorlike arch that once formed the Temple of Apollo on the island of Naxos.
Cavo Tagoo : one of the most photographed hotels in Greece, carved into the caves on the hills of Mykonos.
The Terrace of Lions : a walkway on the island of Delos that's lined by statues of lions.
The Corinth Canal : a long stretch of water that cuts through the mainland in Corinth.
Flyaway Creative : the hottest restaurant in Santorini.
Who Goes on a Greece Yacht Charter?
Given its staggering popularity, a better question might be: who doesn't? For culture vultures, Greece is packed with majestic archeological ruins and attractions, for sun-worshippers, Greece is home to some of the world's most outstanding beaches that can be enjoyed by couples and families alike, and for hedonists, party havens like Mykonos are buzzing with famous nightclubs and bars.
History and Culture
Greece's location at the confluence of the East and West, as well as its Roman and Ottoman occupations, have had a huge cultural and historical impact that can be still felt today in terms of cuisine and architecture.
Greeks are fiercely proud of their heritage and culture. Marvelous regional traditions permeate mainland Greece and the Greek islands, ranging from religion to music, language to food and even wine, making a Greek yacht charter a truly thrilling experience.
Types of Yacht Charters in Greece
Greece has a very diverse yacht charter market, so you can be sure to find the perfect yacht for you and your charter party. There’s a wide variety of motor yachts for charter , as well as sailing yachts and traditional Turkish gulets.
However, be aware that all yachts wishing to begin or end a yacht charter in Greece must be in possession of a valid Greek charter license. Speak to a yacht charter broker for more information.
If you’re unsure about the type of yacht you’d like to charter, here are some things to consider first.
Motor Yacht Charters in Greece
For those looking to rent a motor yacht in Greece, you’ll find a wide range to choose from.
The most common type of motor yacht you can hire in Greece is a yacht with a planing hull. Stylish, sporty and speedy, they’re great for zipping between islands quickly and ensuring you get the most out of your itinerary. If you’re looking to spend most of your time on land or splashing in the sea, a yacht with a planing hull is the top choice for you.
You’ll also find a superb selection of displacement and semi-displacement superyachts at your disposal (pictured above). These are typically larger and more stable at anchor, with more onboard space for facilities and amenities such as gyms, movie theaters and wellness suites. They’re ideal if you’re chartering with a large group, particularly one that includes children.
Sailing Yacht Charters in Greece
Greece is a playground for sailing yacht rentals , with plenty of yachts available throughout summer. A combination of light winds, clear skies and plenty of anchorages create great sailing conditions across all the islands.
The most popular destinations for sailing charters are typically Corfu, Kefalonia , and the Sporades Islands . Other destinations are equally desirable, including the Cyclades and the Dodecanese islands - but be aware that these areas typically encounter more winds. This means it might be more challenging to drop anchor, and you will have to consider spending more nights in port.
Gulet Yacht Charters in Greece
A gulet is a traditionally Turkish-built sailing yacht made out of wood. They are usually two or three-masted and are typically much larger than your average sailing yacht. Luxury gulet yacht charters in Greece are very appealing alternatives to both sailing and motor yacht charter. While they usually rely on their motor underway, they are very fuel-efficient and don't require a lot of fuel to get from point A to point B. They have displacement hulls which make them very stable and seaworthy, and typically offer lots of volume and open-plan living spaces.
Greek gulet yachts also tend to be cheaper than other types of charter as they sometimes offer all-inclusive or semi-inclusive packages, meaning you don’t need to worry about additional expenses such as food and drink. They also normally include a standard number of cruising hours per day. Plus, their crew are often local to the region that they cruise in, meaning they can double as tour guides and have a lot of expertise and valuable insight into the area.
But be aware- many gulets are Turkish-flagged, meaning they will need to hold a Greek charter license to start or finish a charter in Greece.
How Much Does it Cost to Charter a Yacht in Greece?
The price of a Greece yacht charter vacation varies depending on a number of factors, including the type of yacht, the age of the yacht, and the month in which you choose to charter.
- A Greece motor yacht rental can range from $33,000 to $1.8m per week plus expenses
- A sailing yacht charter in Greece averages from $27,200 to $559k weekly plus expenses
In Greece, VAT on a yacht charter is charged at 24% and is based on the value of the yacht. However, this figure can be reduced if the yacht meets specific criteria.
The three tax brackets are as follows;
- VAT at full 24%: applies to charters that take place in Greek waters without exiting to non-EU or International waters (Staying within the six nautical miles limit)
- VAT at 24%: with a deduction option for time spent outside of EU waters or in international waters.
- Discounted at 50% (VAT 12%):for yachts that spend a minimum of 60 % of charter time/days outside of territorial waters. (Territorial waters are considered: six nautical miles from the mainland and six nautical miles from the territorial waters of an island). This also applies to yachts charters commencing outside EU territory and that remain outside for more than 60% of the chartered days and end their charter in Greece.
When is the Best Time for Greek Yacht Charters?
The best time for Greek yacht rentals is between July and August, but warm weather typically extends well into September and even May in certain destinations. The peak of the charter season is usually July, although August historically has the hottest temperatures.
Between June and August, you can expect highs of 85 - 90 degrees Fahrenheit (26 - 32 degrees Celsius) in Athens, with even hotter temperatures recorded further south.
Where Should I Begin My Greece Yacht Charter?
By far the most common embarkation point for a Greece yacht rental vacation is Athens . Around 90% of the Greek charter fleet has a homeport in Athens, and there are numerous luxury marinas that cater to superyachts.
However, for those looking to charter around the Ionian Islands in destinations like Corfu , Cephalonia and Zakynthos , you may wish to begin your charter closer to your desired destination.
It is possible to begin or end your charter elsewhere in Greece. However, you may have to consider the cost of repositioning as the fleet is mostly based out of Athens.
If you want to meet the yacht elsewhere – for example, Santorini, Mykonos – you can expect to pay a hefty repositioning fee. It’s generally more economical to begin your Greek yacht charter in Athens and spend the day cruising to your desired start point, enjoying your yacht to the fullest, and soaking up the scenery as you travel underway.
Where to Find a Yacht Slip in Greece
Around the main yachting hubs of Greece, you’ll find plenty of marinas that cater to a variety of yachts of different sizes. However, be aware that Greece doesn’t have as many big marinas as destinations such as the South of France or Italy , and demand for slips can be very high in peak season.
- Zea Marina: located in Piraeus, Athens, which is the largest seaport in Greece and one of the largest harbors in all of Europe. It's a hive of activity, offering 670 slips up to 150m.
- Athens Marina : revered marina, accommodating 130 slips measuring up to 130m. Provides plenty of amenities on land, including a helipad service.
- Flisvos Marina: award-winning and perfect for starting and ending a charter. Located 6km from Athens city center, with a 303 slip capacity (up to 70m). Well-equipped facilities and high-end restaurants at your disposal when you dock here.
- Kos Marina: close to the enchanting island's old harbor, this marina has a capacity for up to 250 slips with a maximum length of 80m. Provides an excellent array of facilities and dining options.
- Rhodes Marina: world-class marina complete with a stunning backdrop. Can accommodate a staggering 382 yachts with a maximum length of 120m.
Where to End a Greece Yacht Charter
Beginning or ending your yacht charter in Athens, one of the most exciting cities in the world, is a popular choice. Be sure to explore this historic destination in all its glory before you leave.
How to Book Your Yacht Charter in Greece
Greece is one of the most popular charter destinations in the Mediterranean. Therefore, advanced booking (three to six months ahead) is absolutely essential in order to secure your dream yacht on your preferred dates in the perfect destination.
When it comes to Greece yacht rentals, many charterers are repeat clients; meaning they’ve already booked the yacht once, fallen in love with the yacht and its crew, and chosen to return again to explore a new destination. This means that competition for yachts is fierce and it’s even more crucial to kickstart the booking process early.
Don’t forget that your choice of yachts in Greece is comparatively smaller than Italy or the South of France since all yachts beginning or ending a charter yacht in Greece must have a Greek charter license.
That said, it is possible for a foreign-flagged yacht to charter in Greece so long as the charter begins and ends in international waters, such as Italy and Albania for yacht charters around the Ionian Islands or Turkey for charters around the Aegean islands.

Greece Yacht Charter Q&A
Most itineraries for yachts around Greece begin in Athens because around 90% of the charter fleet in Greece has a homeport in Athens. Therefore, the yachts are usually based in the country’s capital, and you will most likely have to pay a repositioning fee if you’d like to begin elsewhere in Greece.
A Greek yacht charter license is a special permit that allows yachts to begin and end a yacht charter in Greece. Not all yachts hold a Greek charter license, so you will need to speak to your charter broker for more information about starting and finishing a charter in Greek waters.
You could start a yacht charter in Mykonos, but you will most likely have to pay a hefty repositioning fee as most yachts have their homeport in Athens. To get the most out of your yacht charter, it’s usually best to begin in Athens and spend the night underway to reach Mykonos.
The most popular destinations for sailing vacations in Greece are the Ionian Islands. However, great sailing conditions exist across the country, and other popular hotspots include the Dodecanese Islands, the Sporades Islands and the Saronic Islands.
The standard Value Added Tax (VAT) is 24%, and it is calculated based on the value of the yacht. The VAT can be reduced in certain circumstances; read our guide above.
The Cyclades Islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos are great for exploring on a luxury yacht charter during summer. The best times to visit are between June and September when you can expect long days and warm sea temperatures. The beach clubs of Mykonos will be in full swing, and the island of Santorini will be alive with activity.

Yacht Charter Greece
Essential Info for Chartering in Greece
Most yachts are based in Athens. The majority of the crewed charter Greece departs from Athens to the Cyclades and the Saronic Gulf. Despite the Cyclades being the most inquired location because of the attractive islands of Mykonos and Santorini, a little research can go a long way for private yacht charters Greece. Firstly, the iconic islands are quite crowded in the peak months and even the limitation of the crew ship numbers hasn’t significantly brought down the visitor numbers to the key islands. The strong Meltemi winds make the journey from Athens a subject of elements, inquire about actually starting in Mykonos and Santorini . As the availability is subject to previous charter ending nearby or ideally in your preferred location, it is advisable to hold the purchase of airline tickets until a boat is secured.
The distances between Greek islands are quite considerable, a crewed motor yacht charter from Athens to Cyclades cruising at 12 knots usually does day hops of 3-4 hours, the time increases for catamarans cruising at ca 6 knots to 4-6 hours. For this reason, many charters, especially involving first time charters, visit the Saronic Gulf – Hydra, Spetses, Poros. It is possible to cross from the Saronic Gulf to the Cyclades, which is usually done when Meltemi changes the plans of yachts from Athens.
The third most popular crewed charter destination in Greece is the Ionian Sea. The fleet of permanent yachts, especially catamarans, is limited. It is possible to charter from Athens, with the decisive factors being the availability of crossing of the Corint Canal which has been closed for reconstruction in 2021, open for only a few months in 2022 and uncertainty about being navigable in 2023.
Selecting Where to Charter in Greece
I want to see Santorini and Mykonos, my tickets are purchased for fixed dates three months from now in August and I need to start and finish in Athens, chartering a catamaran.
This is one of the most common inquiries, and one of the hardest to fulfill. Why?
- Time to charter – with 3 months to charter, your best options are long gone. Ideally book 9-12 months before the charter
- Flights vs Charter Location – with the distance between Athens and Santorini being 150 miles, the itinerary might not be possible due to weather, especially if we want to do Mykonos as well. Ideally, you’ll want to fly to Mykonos or Santorini or at least not plan fixed date island activities.
- Fixed dates- One day up or down can completely change the offer of yachts available – you might need just that one that already has another charter booked for the day before you’re planning to return. It is a great idea to have your charter booked before you purchase your tickets.
- Catamaran and long distances – as someone who does Athens – Santorini fairly regularly, it’s a great sail – for sport sailing. You’re on the open Aegean Sea and hiding behind islands is possible but further increases the distance – count 24 hours of sail one way and divide among the days of charter (24 hours x 2 ways / 7 days = 7 hours of sailing per day with a catamaran). Not a pleasurable experience.
- Time of year – Santorini in August is equivalent to Times Square on New Year’s Eve. It can be a fantastic place if you have the correct expectations. There are 6,000 islands in Greece – plenty of alternatives for high end restaurants, history, Greek cuisine and peaceful or more popular places. Notice places like Milos and Lefkada are being increasingly crowded as well.
- Despite all the above – inquire. We’re well connected with local providers in all areas and are able to provide non-public offers or creatively fulfill your requirements.
When it comes to yacht charters, the price range is about as wide as the open sea itself. The cost depends on factors like the type of yacht, its size, and whether you’re going for an all-inclusive package or not. In this article, we cut through the waves of information and get straight to the point by looking at specific yachts currently available for charter in Greece .
Greece is a country with a rich history and vibrant culture. From ancient ruins and museums to traditional tavernas and folk dances, there’s always something new to discover. Greece has over 6,000 beautiful islands and navigating them is an Odyssey of a lifetime. This article aims to present the best Greek charter itineraries in a logical breakdown.
Boots on The Ground Update: Charter Season 2024 and What's There To Know About Greek Yacht Charters
The summer yacht charter season in Greece is developing in an unexpected manner, with an unprecedented number of higher-end yachts posting price reductions – an unthinkable development given the record-setting 2022 Summer Med Season.
The increased airplane fares are partly to blame, in connection to the ongoing issues in the Greek infrastructure – not enough marinas to match the demand on other islands and continued over-tourism of key Cycladic charter locations. In addition, 2022 and 2023 have seen record increases in the numbers of new yachts – some 235 crewed boats were added to the yacht charter fleet, while most of the older yacht inventory got a refurbishment – in part also due to the EU funds promoting tourism.
The key events in the Greek yacht charter industry in 2024
- The cost of a July airplane ticket went from $900 to $1,400, year over year.
- US inflation of 4-9% year over year weakens the purchasing position of the major charter market
- Continued negative coverage of key Greek areas, from overcrowding of Santorini to DK Oyster restaurant scams on Mykonos continues to dominate the headlines
- Turkey – following the Ukrainian conflicts, Turkey offered a safe haven to many Russian-owned yachts that risked being confiscated in Greece. In addition to the competitive VAT in Turkey (1% in Turkey vs 12% in Greece – in constant threat to be increased to full standard 24% with possible retroactivity of signed charters executed in future) – visit https://myturkishcharter.com for up-to-date and complete yacht offer of Turkish charter yachts. Greece has found itself in between the EU legislators and non-EU Turkish competition.
- Santorini Marina – still in construction, unknown delays
- Corinth Canal – successfully reopened June 22 after repeated construction works on 22 and 23! after walls repeatedly collapsed due to landslides.
- Slow Opening of New Marinas – Licencing issues – limited births restrict navigation of charter vessels
- Inflation of the Charter Fleet following record-setting 2022 yacht returns and EU subsidies for tourism that were leveraged for the purchase of new vessels
- Increase of Ultra High Net Worth Individuals casting a spotlight – just Mykonos has seen Elon Musk, George Clooney, Christian Bale Matt Damon, Chris & Liam Hemsworth.
- New, Upcoming Locations offer an alternative to the – “by now dead romantic idea of Mykonos and Santorini.” Antiparos is a hot charter location frequented by Tom Hanks, Jeff Bezos and Anderson Cooper. Anafi, Ikaria, Kythira, and Nisiros are coming up and the clients are more educated and receptive to the idea of chartering off the beaten and crowded paths.
- A New Client Preference for Secluded Locations – A storm of documentaries have our clients requesting new experiences – we thank My Greek Odyssey and Peter Meneas on a journey of discovering his Kytherian descent and going much beyond and more with his yacht Mia Zoi or Costas Spiliadis – chef and owner of Estatorio Milos with the yacht Milos at Sea enable us to offer new immersive experiences creating not tourists, but travelers.
- New Experiences – from having one or multiple jetskis onboard your yacht to chartering a Greek temple for your event, things are just easier to do in Greece. We’ve considerably expanded our concierge offering to accommodate requests ranging from beach horseback riding and spearfishing to luxury cars and entertainment events.

Santorini is one of the main magnets for a charter to Greece. The iconic panoramic views over the Three Bells of Fira church belong to the most recognized places in the world. However, it’s not that easy to get there. Santorini is on the outer ridge of the Southern Cyclades facing Crete and charters from Athens are always weather dependent. When to go, where to start your charter, and how to make your Santorini yacht charter a success? We’ve summarized the information here.

The Cyclades

Saronic Gulf & Eastern Peloponnese
The Saronic Gulf is one of Greece’s most picturesque seaside destinations, with stunning crystal-clear waters, sandy beaches, and a wealth of activities. The most famous island in this region is Hydra, which is known for its beautiful scenery and lack of cars (there are only 100 on the entire island!). There are also plenty of opportunities for water sports, visiting archaeological sites (ancient Corinth, Epidavros Theater), and of course, dining on fresh Mediterranean seafood.

Looking for a charter that’s both easy to get to from Athens and has a little something for everyone? Then look no further than the Saronic Gulf and Eastern Peloponnese islands.
The Dodecanese region of Greece is one of the country’s most beautiful and one of the least explored. The archipelago is home to several islands still largely unknown to tourists, which means you can explore top locations without fighting the crowds!
If you’re looking for a less-crowded, more authentic Greek yacht charter experience, you’ve come to the right place. The Dodecanese islands are the perfect place to unwind on your next vacation.
The largest island, Rhodes, is known for its beaches and nightlife, while Karpathos is popular for its hiking trails. The other islands have their own unique charms as well, but no matter which one you choose to visit, you’re sure to have a great time!
Whether you want an adventure or a relaxing getaway with the family, you’ll find everything you need in this beautiful area of Greece!

Ionian Islands
Located on the western part of the Greek mainland, the Ionian complex of islands comprises well-known spots such as Corfu and Zante, as well as the lesser-known islands of Ithaki, Kefalonia, and Paxi.
The culture, cuisine, and language of the islands are influenced by both Greek and Italian culture. When it comes to sailing spots, you can expect crystal clear waters with beautiful aquamarine colors that contrast with the lush vegetation. If you enjoy water spots, snorkeling or scuba diving are both great options!
The Ionian islands are a great alternative to the Cyclades during the hot summer months since they are not affected by the Meltemi winds.

Greece Yacht Charters
Luxury Greece yacht charters will transport you to one of the most magnificent places in the world and leave you feeling like a god or goddess. There’s a reason why Greece has been the most popular summer destination in recent years – it’s an incredible experience full of history, beauty, and adventure.
Greece brings to mind bright white cottages with rounded, azure-colored roofs that match the brilliant ocean; or colorful fishing boats bobbing in peaceful harbors as the golden sun warms the streets.
Aside from its vivid landscape, it’s also a land of legends and antiquity. Zeus and Athena, Aristotle, and Socrates – myths and philosophies from Ancient Greece have been foundational to modern-day culture and knowledge.
Greece is considered to be a cradle of Western civilization, and what better way is there to explore it than with a luxury, crewed private yacht charter? Greece is one of our specialties, and with our extensive knowledge of the industry, we can help you make the right choice of yacht for your charter based on your taste, preferences, and budget.

When to go: May through early October
The yacht charter season in Greece begins in early May and runs through early October; however, most charter guests visit during the high season of July and August. During these warm months, prices are generally higher (as much as 10%) and so is demand, so we recommend booking far enough in advance to ensure that you secure the best boat and crew for your needs.
The Meltemi wind can be strong during the summer months, especially in the Cyclades Islands.
During the months surrounding the high season – May, June, September, and early October – the weather is pleasant and Greece yacht charters may be easier to book. There will be fewer tourists on land and the waters will be clear. The Meltemi winds have not begun or have already ceased.
Why charter a yacht in Greece?
Remarkable ancient history
Greece is known as the birthplace of democracy and Western civilization. Remnants still stand of ancient Greek and Minoan civilizations with well-preserved monuments, artifacts, and ancient sites.
Unique architecture
Greece has an architecture that dates back as far as 600 B.C. Many visitors come to enjoy its temples, most of which are in ruins, though some are quite intact. Greece is also known for its open-air theaters, which date from Hellenic times, around 350 B.C. Additionally, there are public squares, mausoleums, gateways, and colonnades.
Great local cuisine and wine
While in Greece, charter guests take advantage of the delicious Greek cuisine and wine offerings, which are an important part of the culture.
Sampling the delicious moussaka, a staple of most Greek meals is a must. This oven-baked casserole includes eggplant and spiced meat filling, topped with a creamy béchamel. Baklava should also be on your trip menu. It’s a crunchy, sweet pastry made of flaky phyllo dough and cinnamon-spiced nut filling, covered in syrup. Yacht charters to Greece will typically serve these dishes on-board, but nothing can compare to eating them fresh when visiting the islands.
As for beverages, white wine is popular in the warm lands of Greece. The lovely Assyrtiko, a Santorini varietal, has a light lemon and fruity flavor. Or sample a Restina wine, a white that’s infused with the sap of the Allepo pine tree and a Greek specialty.
Natural beauty
Greece yacht charters can provide guests with unique views of the more than 6,000 islands and islets throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Beaches range from pristine white sands to deep black in color. Greece has it all: pebble beaches, sheltered bays, coves, coastal caves, wetlands, rocky interiors, calderas, and olive groves!
Spectacular coastline
The coastline of Greece, including the islands, is almost 10,000 miles long. You can find sandy beaches, pebble shorelines, darkened caves, and steep rock walls. There are many inlets, bays, and peninsulas along the shoreline, making for excellent cruising and water sports. This incredible coast makes Greece the perfect destination for yacht charters.
Great beaches
Whether you prefer a traditional white-sand beach, an elegant pebble beach, or a unique black-sand beach, the islands of Greece can provide it. You will be able to locate both secluded beaches with not a soul in sight and popular beaches with partygoers or families.

Where To Go In Greece.
Whether you want to experience the local Greek culture or to find isolated ancient ruins to wander through, a greek private yacht charter will make your vacation in the Greek isles or coastal mainland unique. Greece is a country with its own unique culture; many clients choose to visit Greece for its vast depth of history and its countless islands. Megayachts, Motor yachts, sailing yachts, and motor sailers (Gulets) are all available in Greece.
Greek yacht charters are most common in the Ionian Islands or the Cyclades in the Aegean Sea. Other less common yacht cruising grounds also include the Saronic Islands, the Dodecanese, and the Sporades. However the less common destinations will have far less choice of yachts.
Drift by numerous Greek islands and dare to be swept up by their history and unbelievable natural beauty. Chartering in the Cyclades, the most common charter option in Greece, you will find the famous destinations Mykonos and Santorini and many other smaller islands to explore. Mykonos is Greece's playground for the international jet set. Drop anchor here for a cosmopolitan, upscale ambience.
Sail to Santorini and behold its ancient caldera, bearing evidence of one the largest volcanic eruptions of the last several thousand years. Find peace among the blue and white facades of life here.
Don't Forget the Mainland Greek coast
On the coast of the mainland you can see things like the Acropolis in Athens or the port of Piraeus. Charter around Crete and visit the dig at Mochlos or see the ruins of Knossos. You will see how beautifully the past and the present have merged in this timeless country. If you are even remotely interested in archaeology then a trip to Greece is something that you simply have to take! There is a huge array of museums to explore, so this is quite possibly the perfect high-end historical charter vacation for you.
Exploring Greece From The Water
If you, like many others, have realized that Greece is one of the countries where its coastal locations are sometimes easier to get to from the water, you have probably discovered that chartering a yacht in Greece is the ideal option! It is the perfect way to see an amazingly beautiful land without being limited to a fixed itinerary on a cruise ship or tour. There are well over a thousand islands in Greece, with just a fraction of these being inhabited. When you first experience the coast and islands, what will first strike you is how different each is from the next.
Choose from the Ionian Islands or the Aegean yacht charter cruising grounds of the Saronic Islands, the Cyclades, the Dodencanese, and the Sporades.
The ideal yacht charter time in the Aegean Islands is in early summer to avoid the Meltemi, a strong wind that can spontaneously blow for hours or days! You will become immersed in the culture and daily life in the small port villages that are the center of activities on many of the Greek islands. The entire region is steeped in history, and a truly unparalleled cruising ground for your Greek yacht charter.

“We had a great time in Greece”
We had a great time in Greece, the first three days we had constant 20-25knots of wind, so we were able to do a lot of sailing. The boat was also in good condition and everything in working order…the boat did however look a bit older than a 2018 mode…

Greece Yacht Charters
Greece is a country in Southeast Europe, which is located in the Balkans. The country is embossed in four seas: the Aegean Sea, the Ionian Sea, the Cretan Sea, and the Mediterranean Sea . Due to its advantageous location, Greece possesses one of the longest coastlines in the world. This outstanding feature makes the country an incredibly famous sailing destination. Beautiful golden beaches along the island, emerald transparent waters, pine forests in the mountains, and extremely pleasant weather will not leave any sailor indifferent. Deciding to charter a shining yacht, you make an investment in unforgettable memories and the desire to come back as a matter of course.
The reasons for which one must visit Greece are difficult to count as it has a lot to offer for everyone. Rich history, glorious past, impressive ancient buildings, delicious food and wine, an abundance of celebrations and festivals are waiting for you to explore the picturesque region. The pristine nature of Athens, Volos, Corfu, Kavala, and other Greek cities and perfect weather conditions create an ideal opportunity to rent a boat and melt into the pleasure.
Sailing Conditions in Greece
Being situated in Southeast Europe, Greece welcomes sailors from around the globe to feel all the benefits of the Mediterranean climate. Hot and dry summers with rare precipitation and clear skies provide a good opportunity for yacht rental without any fear of possible rains and extreme winds. The average temperature during the summer period never drops below 20 ºC even at night. It is impossible to miss such great weather and not to go far in the sea on your sailboat to enjoy the 30 ºC heat in the daytime. Greek winters are usually colder, especially in those areas that are close to mountains. But they are not lingering and not so cold to somehow disturb dedicated sailors. The sailing season usually starts in March and continues up to November, bringing different sailing conditions to the island.
Best Times for Vacation in Greece
Having an intention to make the most of your sailboat vacation in the breathtaking destination, it is necessary to get acquainted with the weather conditions of the desired period. As a rule, the peak season of sailing occurs in the summer months and up to the end of September . This time features extremely high air and water temperature and a huge number of sailors even in the remote marinas. By the way, Greek summers are an ideal time for those who are ready to forget about sleep and party the whole night. One of the most important things to consider is that in July, the northern wind Meltemi comes to the shore and creates many hazardous obstacles for sailing.
Spring and autumn wind speeds and summer conditions force you to choose this time period if you are looking for peace and quiet. There is no extreme heat and strong winds, as well as no abundance of people. You still can enjoy going bareboat without any unpleasant conditions and immerse yourself into the same active and loud festivals and celebrations.
Sailing Difficulty Level
Greece has already gained its high popularity as one of the world’s best sailing destinations . Because of its climate and location, the country represents great sailing options for beginners and professional sailors alike. The weather changes require sailors to explore the weather forecast beforehand to select the desired time for coming and know what to expect. The level of difficulty is mostly predetermined by the Meltemi wind of 6-8 force. Blowing from July to September may scary fresh sailors and even become a challenge for experienced professionals. If you are not highly skillful and just do not have enough confidence to manage the vessel by yourself, consider booking a boat in spring or autumn. The absence of powerful winds will not spoil your first sailing experience but contribute to positive impressions.
If you are still not ready to face the open water, 12 Knots is glad to provide you with the help of a qualified skipper and an opportunity to hire a crew . Being focused on the needs and desires of every sailor, we offer either a skipper to help to refresh the memories of handling a boat or a complete training process in our sailing school. Both options are delivered at their best quality and reasonable price.
Main Charter Bases
Greece is an incredibly important sailing destination for 12 Knots. Welcoming thousands of happy sailors every year, the country has a lot of well-equipped marinas and good mooring options. Depending on the desired part of the country, preferred city, and climate peculiarities, you may select a perfect one. The team of 12 Knots spreads their professional services on more than 30 bases along the coast. You may rent a yacht or boat at bases situated in the most famous Greek cities and islands:
- Santorini and many others
Boat Types for Charters
Having a great number of bases in possession, 12 Knots aims to provide sailors with powerful sailboats from leading manufacturers. Approximately 6,000 vessels are now available for charter in Greece. Sailing yachts, catamarans, powerboats, gulets, and houseboats are waiting for your booking. Do not hesitate and contact our team to become an owner of a white shining boat at a good cost. It is advisable to perform booking beforehand to avoid disappointment and misunderstanding.

Athens (2 Nights)
Your private tour of Greece begins in Athens, one of the world’s oldest cities. You will be taken by private transfer to your hotel in downtown Athens with views of the Acropolis. Once a powerful city-state and a center for the arts, learning and philosophy, Athens was home to Plato’s Academy and Aristotle’s Lyceum, and is often referred to as the cradle of Western civilization and the birthplace of democracy. Its heritage of the classical era is still evident and represented by ancient monuments and works of art dotted throughout the city, the most famous being the Parthenon.
After you settle into your luxury hotel, visit the innovative Acropolis Museum with your expert guide. The museum’s glass design is equal in size and shape to the Parthenon, and rotates the marble sculptures and findings exactly as they were placed at the Parthenon centuries ago. After your immersion into the rich history of the Acropolis, dine at a nearby restaurant with breathtaking views of the Acropolis.
The next day, visit the Acropolis itself, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most important ancient site in the Western world. Later, explore the Plaka neighborhood built on top of the residential areas of the ancient town of Athens and finish at the Ancient Agora and Roman Forums, all walking distance from your hotel. Enjoy lunch at a traditional tavern before heading back to your hotel to spend some time at leisure. Later in the evening, dine at a gourmet restaurant in town.
Yachting through the Cyclades Islands (7 Nights)

Later, enjoy cocktails on the terrace of a local cafe, enjoying impressive views over the surrounding sea and mountains before continuing down to the bay where you can enjoy a unique dinner at Cantina, overlooking the water.
Milos (1 Night)
In the morning head to the uninhabited island of Polyaigos to swim in its crystal clear waters and enjoy its deserted beaches. You will make stops at different emerald bays that explode in blue color due to the underground white clay at the ocean bottom. In the afternoon, continue your Greece private charter with a visit to Milos Island, an idyllic place for those who want to experience Greece in all its beauty while skipping the crowds found on the more popular islands. On the way, stop at Sarakiniko beach located on the north shore of Milos island for an afternoon swim. Dock for the evening at the main port and enjoy dinner at a local taverna.
Santorini (1 night)
Continue your private yacht tour of Greece in Santorini, the largest island of a small circular archipelago in the southernmost point of the Cyclades Islands. Enjoy boating along the caldera with stops at the famous red and white beaches made of solidified lava for swimming and snorkeling. In the afternoon, take a private transfer to Imerovigli where you can start your hike to Skaros Rock and later continue along the caldera to Oia. This is an awe-inspiring 2.5 hour hike along the cliffs of the caldera, passing charming white churches and traditional cave houses with views of the Aegean Sea. End the hike at Oia in time to watch one of the world’s best sunsets and enjoy a fresh seafood dinner right on the water at Ammoudi port.
Antiparos (1 Night)
The next morning, you will explore Akrotiri, a Minoan Bronze Age settlement that was destroyed in a volcanic eruption around 1,500 BC. Later, enjoy a private volcanic wine tasting at an exclusive vineyard near Akrotiri. Return to your yacht where you can enjoy lunch onboard and in the afternoon, sail to Antiparos where you can enjoy an incredible sunset at Captain Pipinos.
Paros (1 Night)
Your private Greece tour continues to Paros where you spend the morning exploring its northern beaches such as Santa Maria bay where you can snorkel or dive. After lunch onboard the yacht, continue to Parikia and Naoussa, both known for their traditional Cycladic architecture, shopping, and little cafes. Then, in the late afternoon, head to a private home where you can enjoy a traditional culinary experience and cooking lesson in a traditional farm house. Following the class, enjoy the fruits of your labor for dinner with an unforgettable view of Paros.
Mykonos (1 Night)
In the morning, depart for Mykonos Island. Before reaching the main island, enjoy a private archaeological tour of Delos Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and ancient administrative center. In the evening, enjoy a gourmet dinner at one of Mykonos’ best restaurants.

On this agricultural island, life is simple and most of its beaches are unspoiled. Upon arrival, head to the stunning Kolona beach which connects the island of Agios Loukas with the rest of Kythnos and forms a golden stretch of sand with crystalline sapphire waters on both sides. Only reachable by boat (or on foot), this unique characteristic creates a romantic and tranquil atmosphere. End the day with a farewell BBQ on the beach, prepared exclusively for your party.

Yacht Charter Greece – The Aegean Yachting offers a wide range of sailing yachts, motor yachts, and catamarans in some of the most beautiful destinations in Greece . A brand of Nikolas Yachting Ltd. , Aegean Yachting provides affordable yacht charters in Greece and the Greek islands . You can explore the Greek islands with a sailing or motor yacht, bare-boat or with a skipper for the vacation of a lifetime. The Greek peninsula is at the far south east of Europe is made up of the mainland (Attica, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, Epirus, Macedonia and Thrace) and the islands in the Aegean and Ionian Seas. The area has a population of about 10 million.
Athens , the capital and largest city of Greece: The name of Greece’s capital derives from the name of the Goddess of wisdom and intelligence, Athena. This unique city is where democracy first saw the light of day, and where the Parthenon, the gem of architecture, was built.
Yacht charter bases in Greece – Greek islands:
Greece has an extremely large number of islands – 6,000-odd islands and islets scattered in the Aegean and Ionian Seas, of which only 227 islands are inhabited. Most of the islands are found in the Aegean Sea and are divided into many groups:
Sporades Islands: Pine-clad, picturesque, and hilly islands with some of Greece’s most beautiful beaches — Alonnisos , Skiathos , Skopelos , and Skyros .
Dodecanese Islands ( Yacht Charter in Dodecanese, Greece ) – This group of islands has some of the most cosmopolitan and tranquil of the Greek Islands – 15 larger and about 150 smaller Greek islands — Astypalaia , Agathonisi , Alimia, Arkoi, Chalki, Farmakonisi, Gyali, Kalymnos , Karpathos , Kasos , Kastellorizo , Kinaros, Kos , Lipsi , Leipsoi, Leros , Levitha, Marathos, Nisyros , Nimos , Patmos , Pserimos , Rhodes , Symi , Saria, Strongyli, Syrna, Telendos , and Tilos .
Cyclades Islands (Yacht Charter in Cyclades, Greece), situated in the heart of Aegean Sea, Cyclades is one of the most popular yacht charter destination in Greece.
This group of islands is made up of 56 islands of various sizes, with the most important being Amorgos, Anafi, Andros, Antiparos, Delos, Ios, Kea, Kimolos, Kythnos, Milos, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Santorini, Serifos, Sikinos, Sifnos, Syros, Tinos, Folegandros, as well as the “Minor Cyclades” comprising Donousa, Irakleia, Koufonisia and Schinousa.
Saronic Islands also known as Gulf of Aegina (Yacht Charter in Saronic Gulf, Greece), easily accessible from Athens or Poros, excellent for bareboat yacht charters or flotillas alike.
This area is also ideal for beginners with steady predictable afternoon breezes – the islands of Aegina/Aegena, Salamina/Salamis, Poros, Patroklos, Fleves, Angistri, Methana, Spetses, and Hydra.
Ionian Islands ( Yacht Charter in Ionian, Greece ) – The Ionian Sea is an ideal yacht charter destination and somewhat more peaceful than the Aegean.
The lush green beauty of the Ionian Islands offer gentle sailing from bases in Corfu and Lefkas makes this a family friendly yacht charter area in Greece – lying just off the West coast of Greece, Ionian islands resemble a necklace, and include Paxos and Antipaxos, Corfu, Levkas, Kefalonia, Ithaca and Zakinthos.
Evia (Yacht Charter in Evia, Greece) – The prefecture of Evia (which also includes the island of Skiros), is next to the prefecture of Viotia on the east and on the south touches the Aegean Sea, on the north and northwest to the Pagasitiko and Maliako Gulf, while on the west and southwest with the north and south Evian Gulf.
The Northeastern Aegean Islands (Yacht Charter in Northeastern Aegean, Greece) – Agios Efstratios, Thasos, Ikaria, Lesbos, Limnos, Inouses, Samos, Samothrace, Chios, Psara.
Crete – an authentic Greek Island with a metropolitan twist: Yacht charter in Crete is a wonderful experience, offering the ultimate escape. Located at the southernmost tip of Greece, Crete is the largest island of Greece and divided in to 4 prefectures.
From west to east: Chania, Rethymno, Heraklion and Lasithi.
