Day 1: Genoa

Whether beginning or ending your Italy yacht charter in Genoa , there is plenty to see and do on land before you board and cruise on to the spectacular coves and beaches on the way to Portofino . Begin your day with a spot of luxury shopping, then savour a Michelin-starred meal at The Cook close to the harbour before heading off to the cultural sites surrounding Piazza de Ferrari or Via Garibaldi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its incredible 16th Century palaces and residences, some of which have been turned into world-class museums and galleries. Follow the scenic coast around to Punta Chiappa for an afternoon swim, or instead head straight to the Protected Marine Area of Porto Fino, where you will find the quiet Cala dell'Oro for water sports or incredible views with a hike to the top of the peak. The next bay along is famous for the Christ of the Abyss, which lies 17m/55ft underwater and can be seen easily through the crystal clear waters by snorkelers as well as divers. While in the area, the Tore Doria is a 10th Century Abbey and museum describing its usage throughout history. If you fancy something to eat before you board your superyacht, there are several restaurants to choose from with atmospheric surroundings ideal for a romantic sunset meal.

Day 2: Portofino

There are a number of picturesque caves and coves within the cliffs as you cruise down to Portofino. Visit the solitary lighthouse on the cape and take in the views from the lounge bar open from late morning to late evening, or immerse yourself in the laid-back atmosphere that the town has to offer.

Louis Vuitton, Loro Piana and Harmont & Blaine are just some of the choice luxury shopping options available in addition to numerous local galleries showcasing the talents of local artists, and the colourful streets give you a taste of what is to come at the marvellous Cinque Terre UNESCO World Heritage Site farther along the coast.

Local cultural attractions include Castello Brown, which sits upon the hilltop overlooking the town and showcases art and antiques as well as hosting events throughout the year. Chiesa di San Martino and the old Town Hall add to the beauty of Portofino and are worth discovering on a stroll before you leave for Cinque Terre.

Day 3: Cinque Terre

Foot traffic and boat is the only way to access one village to the next in Cinque Terre, restricting the number of visitors to these charming multi-coloured settlements comprised of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. Some luxury yacht charter groups are determined to see every one of the five villages, whereas others might be content to visit one or two of these destinations and view the rest from above deck. Below gives a sample of what each place has to offer.

As you cruise from Portofino there are plenty of rocky bays along the way for snorkelling, kayaking and motorised water sports before you reach the beautiful Monterosso al Mare. Rest on the soft sandy beaches, savour a cocktail from the local bar or visit the local wineries to taste local flavours. Vernazza has beautiful blue water in its port in addition to man-made attractions including Santa Margherita di Antiochia Church, Castello Doria.

The sandy beaches between Vernazza and Corniglia are an excellent chance for a break and lunch prepared by your expert on board chef, before taking in Chiesa Di San Pietro and the shops around the village square.

Manarola is beautiful to photograph or paint from your luxury yacht, and on land there are numerous sights up close that will also grab your attention: Walk through the winding streets and taste the authentic flavours of Italy in the freshly caught and prepared sea food, coffee and gelato ice cream, then dance the night away in the bars and clubs. Alternatively, host your own party on your luxury yacht sundeck as the surrounding terraced hills take on a golden hue at sunset.

As you follow the rocky coast down to Riomaggiore, be sure to stop off at the beaches and make use of your water toys collection. The clear blue waters are great for beginner swimmers, snorkelers and Scuba divers to practise their skills before drying off on deck as you cruise on to the last of the Cinque Terre villages. The castle on the hilltop will draw your attention as you approach, and you will encounter friendly locals as you tour the cathedrals and dine in one of the many choice restaurants or cafes along the main street. The beach to the south east provides one more spot for your group to sunbathe and play beach games before a perfect night's rest in your own private cabin.

Day 4: Porto Venere and Palmaria

South of the Cinque Terre villages is a whole other world to discover in the nature reserve where islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto are a quiet place to unwind with sunset walks or afternoons paddle-boarding along the shores.

On Tinetto stand the ruins of a castle and the grotto is a popular place to visit by boat in the summertime. Catch a glimpse of Statue Stella Maris on the way back to Porto Venere for cultural sights such as the Church of Saint Peter and the ancient roman villa where olive oil was made, then mingle with the bustling nightlife.

Day 5: Forte dei Marmi and Livorno

A cluster of Michelin-starred restaurants can be found along the beach and include La Magnolia, Lux Lucis, Bistrot and Lorenzo.

Livorno has just as much culture to discover as the more famous Pisa and Florence nearby, and a visit to the museums to escape the hot midday sun will give an impressive insight into life and art right back to the Neolithic era. Head to Via Grande for shopping and holiday souvenirs, then end the day with a sunset wine tasting session on Terrazza Mascagni.

Day 1. Lavagna – Sestri Levante

Get on board in Lavagna, and enjoy the perfect recreation. You can access the port of Sestri Levante on a short and convenient trip. They have many restaurants here recommended by the Michelin Guide. If you would like to have a swim before dinner, visit Baia de Silenzio, the most beautiful beach on the island.

Day 2. Sestri Levante – Moneglia

Your next stop could be Moneglia! It is a small town located in a bay; its sandy beach is protected from the waves by a dam. On your way here, the cliffs on the beach and the rich flora provide an exciting sight. Travelers will be amazed by the cosy streets and medieval houses in the city. You can also find great restaurants here if you get hungry. As for accommodation, there are many apartments or small pensions to choose from.

Day 3. Moneglia – Bonassola

10, 59 km (6, 58 nm)

There is a larger distance between Moneglia and Bonassola, but it’s definitely worth visiting the city! It is not so popular among tourists, so we shouldn’t expect big crowds. The town has an enchanting atmosphere due to the nice houses and the little chapel. The chapel is also an amazing viewpoint; you can see Cinque Terre and Porto Fino in clear weather. Staying in one of the typically Mediterranean accommodations will definitely be a wonderful experience.

Day 4. Bonassola – Monterosso

Day 5. Monterosso – Vernazza

2, 43 km (1, 51 nm)

After a delicious latte, continue towards Vernazza. You are in Cinque Terre now, in a beautiful fishing town. The grapes clinging on the steep mountainside will make you want to taste some good wines. If you dock in the small port of Vernazza, go on and explore the beautiful sights of the area. The region is a nice example of the symbiosis between humans and nature. The place belongs to a national park. Swim in the crystal clear water in Guvano Bay, which you can only access on a boat. Dive in the azure blue water at Vernassa Beach! Visit the local wine cellars, and try the wines that have protected designation of origin. Enjoy the harmony between nature and sustainable life.

Day 6. Vernazza – Anzo Setta

14, 35 km (8, 92 nm)

Turn back at Vernazza, and stop at the shores of Anzo Setta. Its wonderful beach is really inviting. Its hazy streets and terraced houses built hundreds of years ago, will tempt you to go to the beach. You will love the friendly behaviour and Mediterranean temper of the locals.

Day 7. Anzo Setta – Portofino – Lavagna

29, 56 km (18, 37 nm)

If you leave in the morning, you will be in Portofino before noon. This gem in the Rapallo Gulf will definitely enchant you. It is an exclusive experience for the last day. Have lunch in the restaurant on a terrace, buy something in the shops on the boardwalk or swim in the cosy bay! It’s definitely worth visiting the chapel on the top of the mountain and enjoy the cool air among the ancient walls. After lunch, you can quickly get back to Lavagna, the starting point.

One of those rare but must-do experiences in life is to discover Italy. Few places on earth succeed in intermingling la dolce vita so effortlessly with a heady mix of art, history, architecture, opera, fashion, and food, not to mention the stunning coastlines to visit. The Ligurian Riviera The Ligurian Riviera offers a relaxed and enchanting experience, perhaps because of its history inspiring some of Italy’s most famous artists. The rugged coastline dotted with villages, cliffs and multi-coloured architecture is a sight to behold from a yacht. The village of Portofino offers a mix of designer boutiques and superb restaurants, and the five unspoilt villages of  Cinque Terre  make up a UNESCO protected national park. From Genoa, down the Riviera di Ponente to San Remo, this beautiful region is not to be missed.

The West Coast The west coast of Italy incorporates the stunning cities of Rome, Capri , Ravello, Naples , and Salerno. Tuscany is easily accessed, and with its formidable landscapes of rolling vineyards, medieval architecture, and statue of David overlooking Florence, there is little that comes close to competing. The island of Elba with curved bays and beaches, and the volcanic island of Ischia with its thermal springs and spa centres that take some beating, are perfect destination hotspots for those on a charter adventure.

Sardinia The island of  Sardinia  offers an exciting blend of a cosmopolitan lifestyle, prehistoric culture, and stunning natural beauty. Explore rugged coastal trails, kayak in secret bays, and meet friendly locals and the extraordinary wildlife in an island deceptively larger than its size. The island is also famous for boasting some of the finest beaches on the European coastline, with Costa Smeralda’s scalloped bays and Golfo di Orosei’s coves as real highlights.

Amalfi Coast In 1997 the  Amalfi Coast  was deemed a UNESCO World Heritage site and it is hardly surprising. The coastal scenery of beautiful hilltop towns, winding roads, and lemon groves edging the sparkling sea is enough to cement this area into travel folklore as of the most beautiful region to charter a yacht. It boasts an array of luxury resorts, world-class restaurants, and various little coves, and attracts A-listers from around the world as regular visitors.

Aeolian Islands The  Aeolian Islands  are a volcanic archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea north of Sicily, named after the demigod of the winds Aeolus. The island of  Sicily  brings with it history in the form of stunning ancient ruins and baroque churches, boutique shopping experiences in the capital Palermo, and not to mention Mount Etna, the famed volcanic mountain that dominates the skyline. An absolute must-visit is San Vito lo Capo, a beautiful curved bay with golden sands, the perfect end to an Italian charter.

Italian East Coast The east coast of Italy will offer you the delights of  Venice , a city so perfectly created for those with a love of boats and the water, the very glamorous Ravenna, and the seaside spot of Rimini. Beautiful beaches and an area steeped in history surround the port town of Ancona, and just beyond, Puglia with its rustic charm, baroque churches, and relative seclusion wait for you.
