Situated along the west coast approximately 7 km from the Port Dickson town centre. Built as a social and family club as early as 1927, the Royal PD Yacht Club has a beautiful and long history that predates the Second World War.

Before the 1950s, it was a simple yet fun place for friends and family members to gather for an evening of fun. However, as sailing grew in popularity in the fifties, it was inevitable for the club to add a yachting section.

The iconic Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club

And thus, it became known as the Port Dickson Club and Yacht Club. One of the earliest members, Mr. R.B. Perkins, who had lots of interest in sailing along with other sporting activities, helped popularise the club and membership skyrocketed to over 400 in that era!

As the years went by, the club continued to thrive and grow with more facilities added while continuous renovations and upgrades helped the place keep up with modern times.

Then, in 1987, the club was renamed the Port Dickson Yacht Club and gained its ‘Royal’ status in 1991.

So, deep history aside, here are several things you can do at the club:

Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club

Situated along the west coast approx. 7 kilometers from the Port Dickson town centre, the Port Dickson Club was founded in 1927 and amalgamated with the Yacht Club in 1957. The Club was renamed Port Dickson Yacht Club in 1987. The Royal status was conferred on the Club by the State Ruler on 2nd March 1991.

With the Club’s early past somewhat in obscurity and having no proper documented evidence, it is difficult to really outline its humble beginnings. However, from pieces of information gathered from various sources, it is said that the present Port Dickson Yacht Club was originally sited in the town area. Known as the Port Dickson Club then, is was rebuilt in 1927, on the present plot of land, which was purchased from Harrison and Crossfields. This was initiated, presumably, by a band of die-hard Clubbers from the ranks of the Planting Industry and Army. Its first President was Mr. Fred Cunningham – a man renowned for his contributions to this town.

Developed basically as a social and family Club, which it still is today, it was the meeting place of the ‘old masters’ or Colonialists. Certainly, it was they who brought clubbing to this region. One can well imagine the scene of the small group of members then, sitting around and exchanging views over drinks of Whisky soda, Gin tonic or the then popular Tiger beer. The presence of the sea revived the spirits of a few old sailors, and that was how sailing came into the picture.

The Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club is yacht club in the town of Port Dickson that is renowned for its camaraderie and a melting pot of sorts for the British expatriates in the days of yore of the British colonialist era. This once sleepy town is said to have derived its name from a colonial secretary of the Federated Malay States called Sir John Frederick Dickson. Although the club's general history is somewhat obscure and its history not properly documented (I guess the ale must have been overflowing with loud calls for drinks on the house that recovering from a hangover took precedence over documenting the clubs history!), one cannot but help notice a large portrait of Sir John Frederick Dickson adorning the hallway at the entrance of this once colonial club. All that being said, today it bustles with activity attracting city folks from as far as Kuala Lumpur and local members alike to bask in its well spaced clubhouse which is equipped with a well stocked bar, great food with quite an extensive menu featuring both local and western cuisine (they even have banana leaf rice on weekends), accommodation featuring 8 rooms 7 deluxe rooms that fits a queen sized bed and a single bed and 1 family room with two queen sized bed and a sofa bed for that uncle who turned up uninvited and had himself one too many wine spritzers that he misplaced his car keys!. This club offers many a city dweller the much needed reprieve from the hustle and bustle of city life, especially so being a sea-fronting club. All one needs to do is turn up, sign-in, get a locker and a towel and the rest they say is pure bliss.Albeit, it must be emphasized that this is a members-club which means that you must be a member of this club or a member of a club that is affiliated to the Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club in order to be able to enter and utilize its facilities. A list of affiliated clubs can be viewed on the Royal Port Dickson Yacht Club website. The oval shaped bar that occupies the east side of the club, is a nice place to unwind after a dip in the sea. It overlooks the beach with turquoise waters staring back, which helps with the imbibing of cold draft beer or any other aperitif offered on the bar menu.If the sight of the sea is too overwhelming then one can turn their attention to a large television screen mounted above on the left just beside the dart room. Which has sports televised on any given day. The general dining area runs the length of the club with ample space to move about. The verendah provides a nice view overlooking the swimming pool. There are two swimming pools at the club that sits squarely between the main clubhouse and the garden patio that is lined up with deck chairs and umbrellas. The smaller pool are for the kiddos although now and then one might see an odd adult attempting the butterfly stroke in the shallows! and then there is the adult pool for the larger people so to speak. On weekends, the evenings are filled with merriment when the entertainers take to the stage to provide you with soothing dining music and foot stomping dance numbers as the night progresses on. The Bar serves up the much need nectar to keep spirits high and the staff at this club, are really obliging, something that adds flavour to the value-added service that is inherent and synonymous with this club. The club also houses two tennis courts, a couple of squash courts, a gymnasium which has two sections, a library, lush green garden space with a playground and good parking capacity. Of course the club has the other sections where dinghy's, boats and catamarans are kept for the seafaring members. The beach fronting this club, is said to be one of the better beaches on the Port Dickson stretch. The waters are clear and clean. The plus point about this beach is that it is free from the any motorized watercraft's which makes it safe for both swimming and to have the younger ones in water.

Pulau Langkawi

Pulau langkawi.

royal port dickson yacht club

Pulau Langkawi  is a cluster of 99 islands offering the best of many worlds; beautiful beaches, world class infrastructure, mangroves rich in flora and fauna and fascinating legends. Ask anyone on the island about the tragic story of a beautiful young lady named Mahsuri, and you’ll hear a tale of love, jealousy and a curse that was placed upon the island by her for seven generations.

Experience the beautiful countryside and peaceful landscape of paddy fields by taking a leisurely drive around the island. You’ll pass small villages with wooden houses framed by palm trees, and children pedalling their old bicycles on errands. There is no shortage of things to do in Langkawi. Head up the thrilling new cable car to the summit of Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest mountain for an unrivalled view of the entire main island and beyond.

The sprinkling of jade green islands that make up Pulau Payar Marine Park lie just 30km south-east of Langkawi. When you charter a yacht through  Platinum Charters , Pulau Payar would be a must place to visit as this island offers excellent marine life experience. If you’re into scuba diving, the best diving is along the reef system that skirts the south, east and west of Pulau Payar. Boat charters can be organised through Platinum Charters to Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), Gua Cerita and Gua Langsir and not forgetting the mangroves.

Platinum Charters operates either from Royal Langkawi Yacht Club or Telaga Harbour Marina. We can pick guests from both Marina’s as both of them have great facilities. The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, the award-winning 200-berth marina is situated on the south-east corner of Langkawi Island. It is located in Kuah, the island’s main town, providing excellent access to duty-free shops and business facilities.
