Below Deck Yachts

Yacht with Below Deck logo

If you’ve never seen the show, it follows the crew of a luxury yacht during peak “charter season.” The original Below Deck, for example, showed off the glitz and glamour of the Caribbean, especially around St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. The Mediterranean spin-off, on the other hand, highlights European hotspots, including Italy, Spain and Croatia.

The show is undeniably a ton of fun. From the drama in the crew quarters, to the incredible beaches, the show provides an entertaining look behind the curtain.

Yet, the chartered superyachts are the real stars of the show. Each season, Below Deck features a truly stunning super yacht. All of them measure over 150 feet and are decked out in opulent features, staterooms and amenities. And here’s something you might not know: The majority of the Below Deck yachts are available for charter!

Below Deck Charter Yachts

Through five seasons, Below Deck has featured some of the most magnificent super yachts in the world. Some of the yachts have changed ownership since the show, been renamed, or have undergone a refitting. Yet, most look like they did from the show.

But beyond the name and maybe a few changes to the interior, there aren’t many differences. All of the water toys, Jacuzzis and stunning outdoor dining areas are what you’ll find on the yachts available for charter! So which charter yachts are available?

Here’s a more detailed look at the yachts featured on the original Below Deck:

Honor – Season 1

Lumiere yacht

Honor (which is now LUMIERE) kicked off the first season, and she put on a dazzling display. The yacht, originally built by Benetti in 1999, is one of the largest yachts ever featured on the show, and it was actually booked for a five-week charter for filming.

HONOR benefited from the new-found fame of the show. She sold after it aired for nearly $15 million, and the new owners completely refit her interiors and renamed the boat. Today, LUMIERE is a masterpiece of nautical engineering.

She features luxurious accommodations for up to 12 guests and an abundance of deck space, including a sprawling sun deck. The yacht also features a wide array of water toys (the slide was a struggle for the crew all season!).

Ohana – Season 2

Yacht Rhino

Season 2 took the crew on a tour of the British Virgin Islands and featured some familiar faces. Captain Lee, Chef Ben, and Bosun Eddie were back, much to the pleasure of fans. Yet, the yacht was completely different.

OHANA (real name is RHINO) was featured on the second season, a stunning 154-footer, with beautiful decks, a horseshoe outdoor bar, and a stunning outdoor sun deck. After the show aired in 2014, Ohana underwent an extensive retrofit.

She now features an updated interior with a decidedly modern, airy vibe, as well as new hardware, including a state-of-the-art stabilization system.

Eros – Season 3

Yacht Mustang Sally

EROS took centerstage in Season 3, and the 161-foot yacht, originally built for the founder of Tim Hortons, was one of the most luxurious featured on the show. The beautiful tri-deck, featured a stately saloon, a sky lounge Jacuzzi, and sleek exterior styling.

EROS – which was sold prior to the third season – has since been renamed and was also remodeled. She’s now known as Mustang Sally, and unfortunately, this is one of the few Below Deck charter yachts that’s not available for charter.

Valor – Seasons 4 & 5

superyacht charter captain lee

The stately VALOR was a fan favorite in Season 4 and 5. Built in 1990 by Dutch-based Feadship, the 154-foot VALOR featured a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges. Plus, the ship – when featured on the show – had a range of water toys, including dual jet skis and a sleek, boutique hotel-inspired interior.

Like Mustang Sally, VALOR – which is now known as simply BG – isn’t available for charter. Yet, fans will always remember all the drama that took place on board.

Below Deck Mediterranean Yachts

Below Deck Mediterranean premiered in 2016, and through three seasons, the show has featured some of the Med’s best yachts. All of the yachts from the Mediterranean spin-off are available for charter, exactly how you see them on the show.

Ionian Princess – Season 1

Yacht Ionian Princess

Season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean launched with a bang, featuring one of the strongest premieres for the franchise. Although there was plenty of drama throughout the season as the crew traveled around Greece, the beauty of IONIAN PRINCESS couldn’t be missed. The ship, which was originally built in the U.S. in 2005, featured a sleek, streamlined tri-deck design and gorgeous interiors.

The sun deck – where guests partied all season long – is one of the yacht’s star attractions, featuring a Jacuzzi with world-class views. Her interior, though, is one of the most stunning, featuring a chic design. The yacht also includes six cabins with accommodations for up to 12 guests.

Sirocco – Season 2

Sirocco yacht

Season 2 took the crew to Croatia, aboard SIROCCO. The Dutch-built yacht originally launched in 2006, and thanks to its unique two-tone, third-deck exterior, she was remembered for her striking exterior. All of the yacht’s features made great TV. From her incredible sun deck, to the African chic interior, and all of the many water toys, SIROCCO’s impressive design and amenities stood out.

Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean. A few unique features include a sun deck gym, an alfresco party deck, a theatre, and a wide array of water toys.

Talisman Maiton – Season 3

Talisman

Named for an island in Thailand, TAILSMAN MAITON is a stunning tri-deck that cruises the pristine waters of Italy and all of the Mediterranean. The largest to ever be featured on the show, TAILSMAN is truly incredible.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests, in 6 beautifully appointed rooms. There’s a master suite, as well as 1 VIP stateroom, and four smaller cabins. The yacht was built in 2006, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. The yacht also features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.

How Long Are the Below Deck Charters?

Here’s a little-known secret about Below Deck: The “charter season” on the show is just a few weeks. In fact, the yachts are actually booked for about six weeks, and their regular crews are sent home. In other words, the charters on Below Deck are actually a charter within a charter!

Each of the Below Deck charters last just a few days, and each episode features new charter guests.

Below Deck Yacht Rental Costs

Hiring a yacht from Below Deck isn’t cheap. The majority cost in the neighborhood of $150,000 per week. Yet, that charter rate doesn’t include expenses, including fuel, dockage fees, and taxes.

Yet, for that price, you’ll get a truly world-class experience. The crews of each of these yachts provide first-class service and all of the boats are fully loaded with amenities. There’s nothing quite like it in the world. And by hiring one of these superyachts, you’ll also have bragging rights for chartering a yacht featured on a TV show!

The Untold Truth Of Below Deck's Captain Lee

Below Deck's Captain Lee Rosbach

He's the unlikely star of a hit reality show, but fame hasn't changed Harold Lee Rosbach  — better known to " Below Deck " viewers as Captain Lee — one little bit. The Michigan native's no-nonsense attitude and snappy one-liners made him an instant hit with fans of the Bravo series, which follows the captain and his crew as they attempt to keep a luxury yacht full of rich passengers running smoothly. The pilot episode received a poor write-up in The New York Times when it aired in 2013, but with exotic locations and regular drama guaranteed, "Below Deck" would go on to become the most-watched series on Bravo. In 2021, it was nominated for its first Emmys, a huge moment for Rosbach. "Being part of 'Below Deck' since the beginning has been a wild ride that has been filled with many surprises," he said in a statement (per Variety ). "Finding out today that we received two Emmy nominations is the most exciting surprise yet."

The so-called Stud of the Sea is in his 70s now, yet, despite some recent health challenges, he shows no signs of slowing down. He's rubbished rumors that he's thinking about quitting the show ("I'm still having way too much fun," he told Metro ahead of the "Below Deck" Season 9 premiere), which simply wouldn't be the same without him. How does he stay in such good shape? Was he always a sailor? And what does he really think of that nickname? This is the untold truth of "Below Deck" star Captain Lee.

He used to own several restaurants

Before he was the Stud of the Sea, Lee Rosbach was a restaurateur who owned a number of eateries across the country. "I had restaurants in Indiana, Georgia, and Florida," he told the Midland Daily News . He fell in love with the water when he moved to Florida and would later open up another restaurant in the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British Overseas Territory located southeast of the Bahamas. Staring out at the pristine ocean just wasn't enough for him, however. "It got to the point that I wanted to spend more time on boats than in the restaurant," he recalled. When he found himself needing some extra cash, he decided to earn it at sea.

"I took a job delivering a sailboat to the British Virgin Islands," the "Below Deck" star told GQ . "I was supposed to get paid $50 a day as a deckhand, and I was seasick the whole time. The guy screwed me out of half my pay, so I was actually working for $25 a day." The low pay and the seasickness — which stopped after about a year of being at sea, he revealed — was ultimately worth it. The trip confirmed to him that he was a sailor at heart, and he decided a career change was in order. "When I got back, my wife and I moved back to the United States and saved enough money so I could pursue my captain's career in Florida," he recalled.

Captain Lee wasn't supposed to be on the show

Believe it or not, Captain Lee wasn't part of Bravo's plans when they set about making the first season of "Below Deck." By this point in time, Rosbach had obtained his captain's license ( he was 35 when he passed the test, meaning he's been a captain for more than half of his life) and was happily running a luxury yacht called Cuor di Lione. His path would be forever altered when he got a call from the yacht's owner one day. "He said there's a TV network that wants to charter the boat for eight weeks," Lee told Boat International . "They've got their own captain and crew and all you need to do is drop the boat off in St. Maarten." Rosbach delivered the boat to St. Maarten as planned, but there was a big problem when he got there.

The captain that Bravo execs had lined up decided to pull out of the show at the last minute, and the producers on location found themselves in quite the tight spot. The original captain's loss would be Rosbach's gain, as he recalled during an interview on " The Ellen DeGeneres Show ." "They had a conundrum because we were already late into the game," the straight-talking reality star said, "and they needed a captain, so they said, 'Well, I guess we'll use the old guy.'" Little did they know that "the old guy" would go on to become the show's main attraction.

He used to be an amateur boxer

One thing that "Below Deck" viewers can't help but notice is that Captain Lee is in remarkable shape for a man of his age. You might think that his physique comes from years of tying knots and hoisting sails, but he actually started packing on the muscle long before he took to the seas. "I've always been in pretty good shape," he told  GQ . "I've been a gym rat my whole life." Rosbach revealed to the magazine that he had a spell as an amateur boxer in his early 20s, going all the way to "the state finals in Michigan" one year. "I promised myself I'd fight until I lost, which happened at the state finals," he said. "Guy really rung my bell. I lost TKO."

His defeat in the ring didn't dampen Rosbach's enthusiasm for the gym. In fact, he started hitting the weights even harder when he began his career as a restaurateur. "I changed my workout when we moved out to Indiana and got our first restaurant, and I started going to a gym where a lot of the athletes from Notre Dame went," he explained. "Some of the guys from the football team would come in, and they're just beasts. " Those who have gotten to know Captain Lee on "Below Deck" won't be surprised to learn that he became friendly with the young football stars. "I used to work out with them all the time," he revealed.

Captain Lee still works out every day

Despite being in his 70s, Captain Lee is still the same " gym rat " he was all those years ago. He lifted the lid on his workout routine during his candid GQ  interview, telling the men's mag that he's "usually at the gym for two hours" every single day. "I do a lot of repetitions without really heavy weights," he explained. "I'll switch it up every couple of weeks so that my muscles don't remember the same routine." Of course, this only applies when the captain is at home in Florida and he can frequent a fully functional gym — so what does he do when he's at sea? "It depends on the boat," he said. "If there isn't a gym, I'll take some weights with me or I'll buy some when we're docked. If there's a local gym, I'll hit that."

When he's really pressed for time, Rosbach will break out the resistance bands that he travels with and do his workout up on deck at first light. "I like working out outside," he explained. "It just really puts you in a great frame of mind to start your day." Glimpses of the captain's sunrise workouts are rare, but that's not for a lack of trying on the show's part. According to Rosbach, he often rounds on the camera crew when they try to film him in action. "They're like, 'Cap, I'm just doing my job!' I'm, like, 'Get the f*** outta here!'"

The seafarer insists the show isn't scripted

It's no secret that many reality TV shows are partly (or even fully) scripted , but that doesn't appear to be the case with "Below Deck." In 2014, Captain Lee told the Midland Daily News : "I still run the boat the same way, regardless if it is on TV or not." When he sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Men's Health in 2020, Rosbach confirmed that this was still the case. "I don't know if anybody could make this stuff up," he said. "The cameras start rolling at 6:30 in the morning and they don't stop until the last person goes to bed. Static cameras are rolling all the time. So whatever happens, happens. There's no lack of content."

When asked about ex-cast member Caroline Bedol (who called the show "heavily manipulated" in a Reddit AMA ), the captain got a little salty, putting it down to "people trying to maintain their relevancy for longer than they should be." The former third stew made it clear that she has a pretty low opinion of Rosbach following her unceremonious exit in Season 6 (she left halfway through the charter after accusing colleagues of bullying ), telling Reddit that he has "a broken moral compass." That's not how one of the charter guests from that season remembers him, however. "Captain Lee is every bit as funny, charming, and smart as he appears on the show," Linda P. Jones wrote in a blog post . "He's the real deal."

His studly nickname makes him blush

Captain Lee got his catchy nickname in 2015 when a teaser trailer for "Below Deck" Season 3 referred to him as the Stud of the Sea for the first time. The name stuck, but Rosbach would later reveal that he didn't know what was happening when the camera crew arrived to film the now-iconic clip. "I had no idea they were going to do this," he told Lifestyle Magazine (via Showbiz Cheat Sheet ). "A special team came down and did some camera shots. The next thing you know I'm looking at the teaser, and they are talking about the Stud of the Sea. I said to them, 'Oh, someone is going to pay for this!'" The show's executive producer loved the new name, however, and so did the charter guests.

Writing about her experience on "Below Deck," Linda P. Jones revealed that she made Rosbach blush when she called him by his nickname at dinner one evening. "I've seen every 'Below Deck' show ... so I had to tease him and call him the Stud of the Sea," she said on her blog . "I looked back a minute later and he had put his white linen napkin over his head to hide his red face!" This isn't an unusual reaction from the captain, who finds the whole thing "kind of embarrassing," he told  GQ . "It's flattering, but I don't do anything special," he added. "I'm just a guy who gets filmed doing his job."

Captain Lee's wife keeps him grounded

Even after he said yes to appearing on "Below Deck," Captain Lee had no idea that he was destined to become a reality TV star. When the "Stud of the Sea" teaser went viral ahead of Season 3, he quickly realized just how " unprepared  for" fame he was. "No one gives you a playbook to be a celebrity all of a sudden," Rosbach told Lifestyle Magazine (via Showbiz Cheat Sheet ). He went on to reveal that he's often stopped by fans these days ("It doesn't help that he has 'Capt. Lee' as his license plate," his wife joked), but he really doesn't mind posing for pictures with them. In fact, he rather enjoys it. "My philosophy is that if you can put a smile on someone's face and it takes 10 or 15 seconds of your time, why wouldn't you do that?"

Rosbach seems to cherish his belated fame, but has it gone to his head at all? He admits that it's easy to get carried away when you're in front of the cameras, but at the end of the day, he has a job to do. "If I find myself drifting in that direction, I kind of slap myself upside the head and say, 'Get a grip!'" the captain told  GQ . He revealed to the men's mag that his wife, Mary Anne, helps him to "stay grounded," adding, "I talk to her every day. And before wireless cellular, it used to get quite expensive."

His son died of an accidental overdose

Captain Lee and his wife Mary Anne have had five children together: a daughter and four sons. In 2019, their son Josh (the youngest of the four boys), died from an accidental drug overdose. "After a twenty-year struggle, he finally succumbed to the demons he fought so long and so hard," Rosbach tweeted . Josh was 42.

In 2020, Rosbach shared an Instagram  photo of his tattoo tribute to his late son: Josh's likeness inked on his chest. And when he appeared on " The Ellen DeGeneres Show " the following year, Rosbach revealed why he decided to discuss his son's death on "Below Deck," explaining that he felt the need to speak up about the way addiction is viewed in America. "They don't realize that addicts aren't the dregs of society," he said. "It crosses all social boundaries: it doesn't make any difference how much money you have or you don't have."

According to the captain, drug addiction has become "the elephant in the room that nobody wants to confront," and he wants to be the man to finally do something about it. "I don't believe in the last two years I've talked with anyone that doesn't know of someone personally that has paid a steep price for this opioid crisis we have, and nobody says anything about it," Rosbach stated. "Somebody has to step up." In the meantime, all he can do is take life "one day at a time" as he continues to deal with the loss.

The captain is opening a rehab center at sea

When he appeared as a guest on Bravo's " Watch What Happens Live " in 2021, Captain Lee told host Andy Cohen that he planned on honoring his late son by opening a rehab center — at sea. The silver-haired skipper revealed that the facility will be on a 470-foot barge out in the water and will be able to accommodate up to "200 patients at a time." It's not just about kicking the drugs, however. "We're also converting it into a vocational rehabilitation center so that not only do we try to get them clean, but we try to get them back into the mainstream of the community with an ability to make a living," Rosbach explained.

The reality star has even been to Congress to call for more help in dealing with what he's called "the worsening opioid/fentanyl crisis," he revealed in an Instagram  post. He was able to address the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force personally, telling them the tragic story of his son and urging them to act before more parents had to go through the same thing he and his wife did. "The hole in your heart's never gonna go away — you can't replace it with anything else," Rosbach said on " The Ellen DeGeneres Show ." "We're not generally constructed to bury our children. From the time you're born, you grow old and your parents pass away. It's not the other way around. And when that happens, it's completely devastating."

Charter guest Delores never apologized to him

Captain Lee has had to deal with some pretty out-there requests from his guests during his time. "This wasn't on the show, but we had to have a suckling pig flown from New Zealand [to Baltimore]," he told Men's Health . "Like anything else that billionaires want, when they want it, they want it. They throw some money at it and you make it work." Money doesn't solve every problem, however. In one of the most famous "Below Deck" moments to date, Captain Lee lost his rag when a drunk guest ignored his rules and went swimming at night, something he described as "the ultimate f*** you to the captain."

Rosbach rounded on Delores Flora (who dived into the water while still wearing her evening dress), reminding her that it wasn't safe. When she told the captain that she had "paid a lot of money" for the trip, he fired back with, "I don't give a s*** what you paid!" Rosbach later confirmed on Twitter that Flora never said sorry for her behavior. When she appeared on " Watch What Happens Live " to discuss the incident, she said that she doesn't feel like she owes the captain any apologies. "You know, the water was just beautiful," she told Andy Cohen . "I do have a problem with authority, and the first time I remember getting in trouble was for jumping in the deep end of a pool, so I've always had a problem with jumping in the water."

Captain Lee responds to Below Deck's racial slur controversy

"Below Deck" hit the headlines in December 2021 when chief stewardess Heather Chase used the N-word twice during an episode. A clip from the crew's drunken night out showed Chase (who is white) repeating the word after Black deckhand Rayna Lindsey said it, and she appeared to use it again while rapping in front of Lindsey later that evening, which prompted a response. "You cannot say n****, you're white as f***," Lindsey said . "It's not 2002 anymore, you know?" Fans had little sympathy for Chase after she stormed off to bed complaining about being called out, saying, "It just made me feel bad." Lindsey addressed her colleague's use of the racial slur while speaking to the cameras the following morning. "It hurts me," she said, per E! News . "It hurts my heart. It hurts everything in me."

When Captain Lee saw the episode for the first time, he went straight to his personal blog and penned a scathing post. "I was truly disgusted by some words used in this week's episode that I will not repeat," Rosbach wrote . "I find them despicable. The word I heard used casually on this week's episode is not one I tolerate in any way shape or form on my boat." Chase was also watching the episode, and she was embarrassed by her behavior. "While I apologized to Rayna throughout the season, I cannot express enough how remorseful I am," she said in an Instagram  post.

Below Deck is officially a man down after Captain Lee Rosbach said his final farewell to the Bravo hit after 10 "crazy" seasons.

Rosbach, 73, appeared in his final episode on the yachting show on Monday night. As another charter season wrapped up, the man affectionately known as the "Stud of the Sea" sprinkled in a few of his signature salty words of advice and reflected on the coda to his four-decade-long career in yachting.

"Being a captain and being out on the water, there's just something kind of magical out there," he said early in the episode. "It feels right, it's kind of like Christmas morning."

Season 10's final charter guests were body builders, which hit close to home for Rosbach, who hit the gym every day for weeks in order to return to the ship after he had to temporarily step away due to health concerns .

But, despite his admiration for the guest's commitment to physical fitness, he did draw a line when they asked the crew of motor yacht St. David to star in their own body building show.

Rosbach — a self-professed "gym rat" — was not about to take off his shirt for the guests. As he quipped in an interview: "There is only so much lipstick you can put on this pig."

The guests disembarked quickly since it was only a one-day charter, and with that Rosbach returned his ship to port one last time.

"When you're coming to the dock, it's kind of a bittersweet moment," he acknowledged. "It's your last docking — you sure as hell don't want to f--- that up."

After he bid adieu to his team members one by one, he mused aloud: "I really hate to say goodbye to any of this crew. I would stack them up against anyone, I really would."

Taking stock of his time on the sea, he offered up his trademark humor. "Going on 40 years I've been a yacht captain, have I seen a lot of crazy s---?" he asked, before adding a wry laugh: "Is a 40-pound robin fat? Yeah."

He continued over a montage of moments from the show that ranged from wacky to legitimately life-or-death : "Have I been in situations that I didn't think I was gonna make it through? Oh yeah."

But, he affirmed, "Deciding to become a yacht captain has been the best decision I have ever made in my life."

And of this season in particular, he said, " I made a promise that I would come back. That's a promise that I delivered. I want people to look at the job that I've done and go, 'He set the bar high, and he kept it high.' God d---, what a ride."

"I don't know what's gonna happen in the future, but the ocean's always gonna be part of me," he concluded. "I've still got the best god d--- job in the world."

Rosbach was forced to exit motor yacht St. David early into filming for season 10 , a reluctant decision he described to chef Rachel Hargrove as "one of the most humbling experiences of my life."

Below Deck Mediterranean 's Captain Sandy Yawn stepped in for much of the season, with Rosbach telling PEOPLE in December: " She really did me a solid. I'm grateful she was there."

"That's a very difficult situation that I put her in," he explained. "You're taking over somebody else's boat and somebody's else's crew. That's hard enough as it is — now add on top of it the fact that you're also filming a TV show and you've got me over here saying, 'By the way, I may or may not be back. It's open-ended, but I'll do my best!' I recognize how hard that is."

Below Deck debuted in July 2013, and its 10th season kicked off Nov. 21 with Rosbach and the St. David crew navigating the waters around the Caribbean island of Saint Lucia.

Kate Chastain — who developed a close personal bond with Rosbach while serving as his chief stew for several seasons — reflected on her mentor's time on Below Deck during a visit to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in mid-December.

"You know, I think he had a great run," said Chastain, 40. "Ten years! It was his choice, for health reasons, and I think he's pleased with it."

Captain Lee Rosbach Experienced a “First” on Season 10 of Below Deck: “Wow”

The  Below Deck  captain explains how  St. David  is different from any yacht he’s worked on.

superyacht charter captain lee

On the Season 10 premiere of  Below Deck, Captain Lee Rosbach and his crew started their charter season on a jaw-dropping new yacht. As you can see in the video above, the boat has many incredible features, but one major change in particular stuck out to Captain Lee.

How to Watch

Watch  Below Deck on Bravo Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo App .

“[This is the] first time I’ve ever had a captain’s chair that didn’t swivel,” he said on the November 21 episode. “Wow.”

In an episode interview, Captain Lee shared some of the other ways  St. David  differs from the yachts we’ve previously seen him working on, like  My Seanna   and  Valor . “It’s a big boat. Calf muscles are gonna be burning. It’s 197 feet, 1,093 tons,” he explained. “The staterooms are bigger, the hallways are longer, we got an extra deck. That’s another flight of stairs.”

In the clip above, chief stew  Fraser Olender  reveals a few more notable differences about the yacht. “We have a Jacuzzi, one of the deepest Jacuzzis I’ve worked with, providing lots of entertainment and fun for our guests,” he says. Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly Warns: ‘Don’t Believe Everything You Read’

Bravo’s hit reality TV series follows the personal and professional lives of crew members working on a superyacht during charter season. It premiered in 2013 and is the first installment in the Below Deck franchise, which also includes Below Mediterranean ,  Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Below Deck Down Under , and  Below Deck Adventure . Lee Rosbach has served as the captain of the M/Y St. David since the show debuted and is a fan-favorite in the Bravo universe.

The beloved captain, who is affectionately dubbed the Stud of the Sea, took a leave of absence midway through Season 10 due to medical issues. Although he returned by the end of the season, his time aboard the ship was short-lived, as he has now exited the series permanently ahead of Season 11. Read on to see what happened to Captain Lee and why he really left Below Deck .

What happened to Captain Lee on Below Deck ?

Captain Lee, Below Deck

At BravoCon 2023, Bravo officially announced that Captain Lee would not be returning to Below Deck for Season 11, which aires on Feb. 5, 2024. Instead, he will be replaced by Below Deck Adventure ‘s Captain Kerry Titheradge. While it was rumored that Lee left on his own accord and chose to retire due to his medical issues, the captain has since come forward and shared that he was not invited back. During an interview with Us Weekly , Lee said that the decision “came out of left field” and that he “did not see that one coming at all,” noting that Bravo told him they wanted to “move in a new direction.”

Lee added that he would have preferred to exit “on different terms.” While speaking to the Sun Sentinel in April 2023, Lee elaborated on his departure and his ongoing health issues. “I guess I can see their point of view. They really couldn’t get a straight answer from anyone on how my health was,” he said, explaining that his doctors can’t diagnose his current ailment beyond “a nerve issue.”

Halfway through Season 10, Lee left the series to seek medical treatment for inflammation in his sciatic nerve, which made it difficult for him to walk. Following a successful back surgery, Lee returned and relieved interim captain Sandy Yawn. In one of the episodes, he told Sandy that he was “doing great.”

“I’ve made a lot of improvement,” he explained in a confessional. “I’ve been spending every day in physical therapy and it was tough. Doctors have assured me I’m not going to damage myself any more by working and I’ll be goddamned if anything’s gonna keep me from it.”

While Captain Lee may not be on our TV screens this season, he’s not ruling out a potential return to the show. “[Bravo and I] came to an agreement, and I’m going to be doing some things for them in the next year,” he said.  “Then, Season 12? I imagine they are going to see what happens with Season 11, with somebody new trying to take over for me, see how they do … If it’s too expensive for them, we’ll see what happens. If the numbers take a tank, would I go back? Yeah.”

In the meantime, Lee is set to host the Oxygen true-crime series Deadly Waters , which follows murders that take place in the open waters and oceans.

Below Deck Season 11 airs on Bravo on Mondays and streams on Peacock .

Blue Bloods, Chicago Fire, The Good Doctor

<p>Primetime programming this fall is going to look a lot different than in past years. While under normal circumstances, new seasons typically premiere in September or October, many networks have pushed back new scripted content for months and are airing repeats. <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/680203/when-chicago-fire-return-season-12/">When do primetime TV shows return</a>? We have the answers below.</p> <p>On July 13, 2023, the national board of the Hollywood actors’ union SAG-AFTRA approved to strike. The union represents 160,000 television and movie actors. During the strike, actors are not allowed to work union jobs, promote their respective films and shows, attend press junkets and premieres and more. The actors’ strike comes two months after the WGA began their strike on May 2, 2023. The demands requested by the actors and writers are similar: They want better compensation for TV shows and movies, increased residual payments for their work on streaming services and regulations on artificial intelligence.</p> <p>When new seasons do return, they could look slightly different than past seasons. For example, seasons could have fewer episodes due to decreased production times. When the WGA went on strike from November 2007 to February 2008, shows like <em>Grey’s Anatomy, Bones, Scrubs, Friday Night Lights</em> and more all experienced episode cuts, according to <a href="https://movieweb.com/shows-and-movies-affected-by-2007-writers-strike/"><em>Movie Web</em></a>. Leaders on both sides of the strike say that they’re in it for the long haul – so it’s likely that filming won’t resume for a while.</p> <p>To make up for the lack of new scripted content, some networks are airing reruns of their hit shows. For example, <em>CBS</em> is airing Paramount’s <em>Yellowstone</em> for the first time, as well as reruns of <em>Blue Bloods and NCIS</em>. NBC will also be airing repeat episodes of <em>Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. </em>this fall. </p> <p>So, when do primetime shows return to TV? Check out our gallery below for the latest on when your favorite primetime shows are coming back. </p>

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D.

<p>When does One Chicago (<em>Chicago Fire, Chicago Med </em>and <em>Chicago P.D</em>.) <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/679958/when-chicago-pd-return-season-11/">return for their respective seasons</a>? NBC announced that the next seasons will air in 2024 – instead of the fall of 2023 – according to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/magnum-p-i-nbc-fall-2023-tv-schedule-1235539608/"><em>The Hollywood Reporter</em></a>. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to watch reruns of all the One Chicago shows in the fall.</p>

Cole Hauser, Luke Grimes and Kevin Costner, Yellowstone

<p>When does <em>Yellowstone</em> return for Season 5, Part 2? The final episodes of <em>Yellowstone</em> Season 5 were scheduled to be released in November 2023, but that is looking unlikely. We’re also supposed to get the <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/666666/matthew-mcconaughey-yellowstone/">Yellowstone prequel</a> – starring Matthew McConaughey – in December 2023. Now, there is a chance we might not get the remaining episodes of<em> Yellowstone</em> at all. Court documents from <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/676753/kevin-costner-yellowstone-drama/">Kevin Costner revealed that he is no longer under contract</a> for the Western drama and may not appear in the final installment.</p>

Richard Glassman and Shaun Murphy, The Good Doctor

<p>When does <em>The Good Doctor </em>return for Season 7? We’re not sure, but Season 7 of <em>The Good Doctor</em> will likely <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/680726/when-the-good-doctor-return-season-7/">receive a mid-season premiere</a> in early 2024. ABC has not yet announced premiere dates for <em>The Good Doctor</em> and its scripted primetime programs, including <em>9-1-1, Grey’s Anatomy, The Rookie, Will Trent </em>and more.</p>

NCIS Cast

<p>When does <em>NCIS</em> return for Season 21? <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/wp-admin/_wp_link_placeholder">CBS announced</a> that we’ll get <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/679973/when-ncis-return-season-21">reruns of <em>NCIS</em> in the fall</a> of 2023, but the network has not proposed a new premiere date for new episodes. Like other primetime shows, we expect the series to return in early 2024.</p>

Blue Bloods Cast

<p>When does <em>Blue Bloods</em> return for Season 14? <a href="https://soaps.sheknows.com/soaps/news/681117/when-blue-bloods-return-season-14/">Season 14 of <em>Blue Bloods</em></a> will likely receive a mid-season premiere in early 2024 or later. Instead, CBS will be airing select episodes of <em>Blue Bloods </em>this fall as part of its revised schedule. The episodes chosen from Season 1 to Season 13 will highlight “memorable character arcs” that “will also showcase pivotal character introductions and feature some of the numerous outstanding guest stars,’ a network representative told <a href="https://www.newsday.com/entertainment/tv/cbs-blue-bloods-yellowstone-ly9ix78c"><em>Newsday</em></a> in July 2023.</p>

Ice-T and Mariska Hargitay

<p>When does the <em>Law & Order</em> franchise return for Season 25? NBC confirmed that the <em>Law & Order</em> dramas won’t return in the fall of 2023. We’ll likely see all three <em>Law & Order</em> shows (<em>Law & Order, SVU </em>and<em> Organized Crime</em>) get mid-season premieres. Reruns of <em>Law & Order</em> shows will air this fall, NBC announced.</p>

Max Thieriot, Fire Country

<p>When does <em>Fire Country</em> return for Season 2? CBS announced that it was moving <em>Fire Country</em> to 2024 – but it’s unknown whether it will receive a mid-season premiere or will air later in the year. According to <a href="https://www.adweek.com/convergent-tv/cbs-is-latest-network-to-shake-up-fall-lineup-amid-writers-strike/"><em>Ad Week</em></a>, CBS will air the game show <em>Raid the Cage</em> in<em> Fire Country’s</em> fall slot.</p>

The Rookie cast

<p>When does <em>The Rookie</em> return for Season 6? ABC wiped new scripted programming from its fall slate, so Season 6 of <em>The Rookie</em> will likely premiere in early 2024 or sometime later in the year. Instead, the network is investing in a strike-proof schedule with an all-unscripted lineup.</p>

FBI and FBI Most Wanted Cast

<p>When does<em> FBI</em> return for Season 6? CBS is also holding the new season of <em>FBI</em> until the midseason in 2024, but the premiere could be delayed even further depending on the length of the strikes. <em>FBI</em> Season 6 does not have an official release date yet.</p>

Grey's Anatomy Season 19 cast

<p>When does <em>Grey’s Anatomy</em> return for Season 20? As we stated above, ABC is pushing all scripted content to 2024, including the new season of <em>Grey’s Anatomy. </em>We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.</p>

St David: Captain Lee replaced on season 11 of Below Deck

Season 11 of hit reality TV Show Below Deck will return to screens on 5 February 2024, this time with Captain Kerry Titheradge taking over from Captain Lee’s slot. According to TV network Bravo, the series will this time be based around Grenada, where the superyacht crew will again set sail on the 60-metre Benetti motor yacht St David with a new captain at the helm.

The show is based around an eight-week charter season and is one of the network’s most highly-rated series. It will feature some familiar faces – including chief stew Fraser Olender and Ben Willoughby – as well as welcoming a new chef, Anthony Iracane, a French restaurateur from Miami. Overseeing the deck crew will be Bosun Jared Woodin, while Marie “Sunny” Marquis and Kyle Stillie will join as deckhands. New stews Cat Bough, Xandi Olivier, and Barbie Pascual will complete the crew.

First used in season 10, St David was the largest yacht in the show’s history and is one of a few in the series to use the yacht’s real name. Take a look inside...

Delivered in 2008 by Italian shipyard Benetti, St David is a full-custom yacht with both interior and exterior design from British studio Winch Design . She went on to become a finalist at the 2009 World Superyacht Awards , where the judges were impressed by her sleek, supercar-inspired profile.

At the time of her launch, she was the sixth-largest yacht in the Benetti fleet. She was last sold in 2018, with an asking price was €22,500,000. Morley Yachts is currently her Central Agency for charter, and she is currently on the charter market from €325,000 per week, plus expenses during low season and €345,000 per week plus expenses during high season.

The yacht is a historically popular charter yacht that has made appearances at a number of high-profile events, including the Cannes Film Festival. She has also ventured to off-the-beaten-path locations including the Seychelles, Red Sea and Abu Dhabi.

A classic Baroque theme characterises St David ’s social spaces, with intricate marquetry made from satin woods and a skylounge area that draws inspiration from a ‘Tuscan palazzo’, with its turquoise, white and gold mosaic floor.

One of the most notable features is an elegant spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. The sun deck itself is well-appointed, with sunloungers and a sunpad spread where guests can stretch out and relax. There is a shaded portion of deck which benefits from a casual dining arrangement and a spa pool bordered by more sunpads, which can also be fitted with an al fresco cinema screen.

Accommodation is for 12 guests in six cabins, with a split-level master suite that lets in plenty of light.

In terms of toys, St David has expansive water toy facilities and storage, including scuba dive gear. She most recently refitted in 2021 and works included new interior and exterior fabrics, audiovisual upgrades and a new skylounge cinema. The watersports equipment has also seen a recent upgrade, with a new 7.2m tender, new Waverunners, and an electric foiling surfboard.

The news that Below Deck Season 11 will premiere on 5 February 2024 was announced during BravoCon in Las Vegas.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht from below deck.

If you’ve watched Below Deck or Below Deck Mediterranean, you have surely been absorbed by the captivating drama of the cast’s lives. But more stunning than the cast are the beautiful superyachts that serve as the stage for the drama. But how much does it cost?   It costs $140,000 to $275,000 per week to charter a yacht from ‘Below Deck’. The average price you should expect to pay is north of $180,000 to charter a boat that has been on the later seasons of ‘Below Deck’. But if you get featured on the show, you’ll probably only pay half of the charter rate due to a 50% discount from the production.   In this article, you will learn more about the prices of those yachts featured in the famous TV show. You will also find out whether Captain Lee comes with the yachts and how you can meet the cast and crew of ‘Below Deck’ in real life. But first, let’s explore the process of chartering a yacht from ‘Below Deck’.

Captain Lee and Crew

Can you get Captain Lee on your Yacht?

Captain Lee is not attached to any specific yacht from the show ‘Below Deck’. If you charter a yacht from the show, there is no guarantee that the crew will be the same cast as it was on ‘Below Deck’. On the other hand, you can charter a yacht that’s never been featured on the show and still get Captain Lee. Please contact us upfront if you want to charter a specific yacht from the show and if you have any wishes regarding the crew. You can request Captain Lee for your yacht charter and specifically request for his staff from ‘Below Deck’. We at Noblesse Yachts will make all the arrangements for you. But that doesn’t guarantee you’ll be featured on the reality TV series ‘Below Deck’, as not all of Captain Lee’s adventures are featured in the series.   An easier way to meet Captain Lee and his crew is to apply for the show. Instead of paying for a superyacht charter and Captain Lee independently, you can book them as a package deal – if you are willing to be featured on the show. Please note that Captain Lee Yacht availability keeps decreasing by the minute. He has brand deals, collaborations, and other engagements that can further narrow his time for in-person captaining. In other words, getting the stud of the sea to captain your yacht will take far more than the average yacht captain’s quote.   For fans of captain Lee on Below Deck, there are meet-and-greet events as well as the option to get a personalized video message .

Getting featured on the Netflix-Show ‘Below Deck’: The Process

Getting featured on Below Deck entails:

  • answering the casting call of the production company that shoots the show
  • willingness to pay 50% of the yacht charter price and 100% of the staff tips
  • getting interviewed by the casting director

How to charter a yacht from ‘Below Deck’ – without actually being on the show

If you want to rent a yacht from ‘Below Deck’, you can simply contact us . We have all available dates, charter prices, and itineraries for every yacht featured on the show. Is your preferred yacht not available? Don’t worry. The yacht charter market is BIG, and we can almost guarantee that we will find a suitable option for your desired dates or destination.

Are there any hidden costs when chartering a yacht from ‘Below Deck’?

Although charter prices for yachts from ‘Below Deck’ start at a whopping $140,000 per week, these prices don’t include standard charter extras. Alongside paying for the staff tips (usually 10% of the charter price), you may need to pay for docking fees, applicable taxes, and the APA (advance provisioning allowance).   We will gladly calculate any applicable extra costs to avoid you getting surprised by hidden fees and taxes. Depending on the destination, the docking fees will be listed and accessible (to an extent).

What you need to know before getting aboard a yacht on ‘Below Deck’

  • You’ll get a discount on the charter rate – The production will pay for 50% of the yacht charter price. The trend shows that they choose bigger yachts with every season because people are willing to pay more to get on the screen.
  • You pay 100% of the staff tips – That’s usually 10% of the charter’s total price. You might want to tip more if you want to show your generosity.
  • You are willing to ‘work’ on your vacation – It really does involve work, as you have to be camera-ready and may have to re-enact real-life interactions if cameras are unavailable when something significant happens.

What is the minimal booking period for a Luxury Yacht Rental?

Whether you are on ‘Below Deck’ or not, superyachts are usually chartered on a weekly basis. In some countries, the micro-rental concept has been introduced where one can rent a yacht for a day or even a few hours.   Here are some regions/countries where you can micro-rent a yacht:

  • Maldives – Decent yacht availability, low rates
  • Turkey – Broader superyacht availability, good rates
  • Dubai – Superyachts are available for hourly, sharing, and rental. Expensive
  • Greece – Narrow yacht availability, low rates
  • Croatia – Narrowest yacht availability, low rates

‘Below Deck’ was just ‘a terrible idea.’ This salty captain turned it into reality TV gold

At a sceney hotel in the Meatpacking District, Capt. Lee Rosbach glances disapprovingly at the waiter, who sports a severe undercut.

“How do people walk out of their house in the morning, look in the mirror and think, ‘This hair looks good’?” Rosbach says once the server has delivered his coffee and is out of earshot.

This brand of unvarnished honesty has endeared Rosbach, a.k.a. “The Stud of the Sea,” to fans of “Below Deck,” now in its 10th season. Like a real-life hybrid of “The Love Boat” and “Downton Abbey,” Bravo’s compulsively watchable reality show follows the hard-partying crew members and entitled guests aboard luxury yachts in stunning locations around the world — and has introduced millions of viewers to terms like “aft deck” and “bosun.”

As a gruff, heterosexual, 73-year-old white male who has never been implicated in financial crimes or launched a line of scented candles, Rosbach is not your typical Bravo-lebrity. He never wanted to be on TV in the first place.

“I’m just a blue-collar guy who does his job. I just happened to get filmed while I’m doing it,” says Rosbach, who is in town for BravoCon , a three-day gathering for fans of the network’s unscripted programming. But wearing a coral-pink zippered sweatshirt in a tropical print (and a large silver medallion) over his bare chest, he looks like he got lost on the way to Margaritaville.

‘This is our Super Bowl’: At BravoCon, a reality TV empire has its moment in the sun

Bravo built its brand on “Real Housewives” and other addictive reality soaps. With the inaugural BravoCon, it gave fans an event worthy of pilgrimage.

Nov. 18, 2019

“I don’t really do anything any different on my boat than I did 30 years ago,” he continues, “And if the camera doesn’t like it, well, that’s not my problem. But I guess people like it, because it’s still going after 10 years.”

Rosbach has been the sensible anchor on “Below Deck” since it premiered in 2013, outlasting dozens of lackluster deckhands, stewards and chefs along the way. Once an unlikely fit for Bravo, he now seems indispensable, much like “Below Deck” itself, which has become the network’s most valuable franchise since “The Real Housewives.” There are now four spinoffs, each with a different captain and a distinct flavor: “Below Deck Mediterranean,” “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” “Below Deck Down Under” and “Below Deck Adventure,” which launched last month. Over the last year, four of the top 10 programs on Bravo were incarnations of “Below Deck,” which draw a larger male audience than is typical on the female-skewing network.

But in last week’s episode, Rosbach dropped a bombshell, telling the crew of the motoryacht St. David — sailing in St. Lucia this season — he was leaving the boat because of nerve issues impairing his mobility.

On social media, fans responded to the news of their beloved boat daddy’s departure with a torrent of tearful emojis. But the change is not necessarily permanent: Rosbach has repeatedly said he has no interest in retiring.

‘There was nobody with gray hair on Bravo’

When Bravo bought the idea for “Below Deck” about a decade ago, executive producer Courtland Cox remembers thinking, “Oh s—. Now I have to figure out how to make this show.”

As he and the team at 51 Minds, the company that produces four of the “Below Deck” shows, quickly learned, making a show set aboard a functioning yacht is a logistical, financial and legal nightmare.

Particularly in the early seasons, the learning curve was steep, and producers faced intense skepticism within the charter industry.

Rosbach, who gave Cox an informational tour of the boat he was helming at the time (and which appeared in Season 1 of the show) was one of those skeptics. “I could tell that he wanted nothing to do with us,” Cox recalls. “Like, ‘I’m doing this because the owner wants me to do it, but I can’t wait until you get off my boat.’”

Capt. Lee Rosbach and chief steward Kate Chastain on "Below Deck."

Originally, Rosbach was only supposed to play a behind-the-scenes role on “Below Deck,” by transporting the boat to St. Martin, where a younger, more Bravo-friendly but less experienced captain would step into the role for TV. When it became clear this arrangement wasn’t going to work, Rosbach was forced to take over. (In Rosbach’s telling, his wealthy boss gave him little choice: Either do his job on TV, or lose the job.)

Rosbach barely watched reality TV — and still doesn’t. He occasionally checked out “The Deadliest Catch” — “stuff that was actually real,” he says. But the glossy shows on Bravo about, as he puts it, “rich, spoiled, never-grown-up little girls trying to act like they put their big girl pants on”? “They didn’t interest me at all.”

“At the time, there was nobody with gray hair on Bravo. It was a very controversial thing,” Cox says. But when the show premiered, people immediately responded to Rosbach’s paternal presence, like a weary dad supervising a slumber party.

With his salty aphorisms (“I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken”; “I would rather drag my d— through 10 miles of broken whiskey bottles”), Rosbach is the tough-but-fair boss we all wish we had. After deckhand Ashton Pienaar was dragged off the boat in Season 6 — a potentially fatal scenario — Rosbach delivered a heartfelt safety lecture to his crew: “We need to really care about ourselves and our loved ones. ’Cause in the end, that’s all you got.”

Though Rosbach has yet to make it through a season without firing someone (often several people), “I have put up a concerted effort,” he says, laughing. And he’s pleased that “Below Deck” has introduced the industry to a wider audience of potential yachties — “especially people from the Midwest. We’re just raised differently.”

“What our fans have always loved about Bravo is the authenticity of our characters,” says Noah Samton, senior vice president of current production at NBCUniversal Television, who oversees “Below Deck” for Bravo. Someone like Teresa Giudice, the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star who served a year in prison for fraud, “may be as different from Capt. Lee as possible,” he says, “but they both are incapable of being anybody but themselves all the time.”

Scarlett Bentley and Gary King in an episode of "Below Deck Sailing Yacht"

The breakout star of Bravo’s next reality TV juggernaut is ready to settle down. Almost

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ first mate Gary on being a reality heartthrob, his ‘cringe’ moments and how Daisy hurt him.

June 20, 2022

Unlike most of the 20-something crew members on “Below Deck,” Rosbach got a late start in the business. In the mid-1980s, Rosbach was running a restaurant in the Turks and Caicos Islands that went under. Unemployed, with a wife and kids to support, Rosbach spotted an ad at the dive shop for a mate to help deliver a boat to Tortola — no experience necessary. He took the job and, in between bouts of seasickness, discovered a calling.

“I’d never been on a g— boat,” he says. “I’d never even seen the ocean till I was 35.”

After moving back to the U.S. and earning his captain’s license, he worked his way up until he was running a superyacht. “If anybody tells you captains don’t make good money,” he says, “they’re lying to you.” (Salaries are based on the length of the boat.)

Kate Chastain was also a seasoned yachtie before she joined “Below Deck” in Season 2. By then, she’d already ascended to the role of chief steward — a.k.a. “chief stew,” like the housekeeper and butler rolled into one — but she was getting bored.

“‘Below Deck’ was a perfect way to take what I’d been doing and do it a new way,” says Chastain, wearing a pink gown and white sneakers as she relaxes in a windowless green room at BravoCon.

She ended up staying for six seasons, becoming a fan favorite for her ability to deliver both excellent service and wildly entertaining TV. (Known for her wicked one-liners, Chastain famously took revenge on a rude guest by folding his blanket into the shape of a penis, which she claimed was a rocket ship.) Still, she says, “I didn’t fully realize at first how it is two jobs — a TV job and a boat job. You have to learn which corners to cut to be able to do both jobs.” After a few seasons, Chastain told her stewards to stop vacuuming so much “because the cameras only shoot from here up,” she says, gesturing to her waist.

Cutting corners is one thing, but the stunt casting typical of other reality shows isn’t possible on “Below Deck” because the show takes place on a working yacht, Cox says: “You can’t put someone on a boat that can’t do the job. The lives of my production crew are literally in the hands of the kids on this boat who we are filming. If something goes wrong, they’re the ones that have to get us off safely.”

Besides, he adds, “If somebody is there for the wrong reasons. Lee’s gonna suss that out immediately.”

‘This show is a terrible idea’

On a network overrun with people who spend lavishly but work infrequently, much of the action of “Below Deck” is manual labor: The yachties spend hours folding laundry, inflating slides and preparing 10-course meals in kitchens not much larger than an airplane bathroom.

And its greatest source of suspense is how much the guests, who rotate every few episodes, will tip at the end of each charter. To watch crew members trash talk about their demanding, boorish customers in confessional interviews is not only cathartic, but novel: “Below Deck” is a rarity in TV, the show that sympathizes with working people over obnoxious one-percenters.

“The audience loves different things about ‘Below Deck’ than they like about other shows,” says Samton, the Bravo executive. “Our audience has this tremendous respect for workplace hierarchy. Who would have thought that would be something people were interested in watching on a reality show?”

Because of this built-in authenticity, “Below Deck” appeals to people who don’t necessarily watch much Bravo — or reality TV in general. John Fetterman, the hoodie-wearing Senator-elect from Pennsylvania, has praised the show for its bipartisan appeal. Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh told Rolling Stone he finds “Below Deck” completely gripping because “it’s a show about going to work.”

Fittingly, “Below Deck” also takes a lot of work to make, says Cox, who once knew nothing about yachting but now understands the intricacies of watercraft insurance and maritime law.

“Below Deck” films around the clock for about six weeks. Cameras installed around the boat capture whatever the film crew can’t. (When producers learned two Season 3 crew members were meeting for trysts in the laundry room because it didn’t have a camera, they added one.) Producers deal with three different boat crews: the on-camera yacht crew, the crew who provides catering in a separate vessel and the water taxis that shuttle the production crew, which doesn’t sleep on the boat, back and forth every day.

Tom Girardi and Erika Jayne: What to know

“This show is a terrible idea,” Cox says.

Maybe, but the “Below Deck” format has proved surprisingly durable. With five yachting shows in the current lineup and more than 300 episodes in the franchise so far, there could be more on the way, says Samton: “It’s an open question that we’re talking about all the time over here.”

The role that Rosbach will play going forward remains to be seen. In addition to his health challenges, the captain is also grieving his son, Josh, who died in 2019 of an opioid overdose.

“Some days are better than others. Other days I’m just a f— train wreck. I’ll be sitting at a stoplight, something will trigger it and I just come apart like a cheap suit,” says Rosbach, who carries some of his son’s ashes with him in the medallion around the neck. “I stopped playing music the day he died, and all my guitars sit in the corner getting dusty. He left such a hole, and that’s never gonna go away. The dumba— that said ‘Time heals all wounds,’ God, he was so full of s—.”

Still, Rosbach’s reluctance to retire fully from the rigors of yachting — and reality TV — points to why the franchise has made armchair nautical experts out of its legion of fans, buoyed Bravo through a time of transition for its “Real Housewives” juggernaut and silenced the naysayers who predicted “Below Deck” would kill his career.

“The phone rings and it’s a lot of people I haven’t heard from in 25 years,” he says. “It’s like, ‘How do you like me now?’”

‘Below Deck’ Sails Into a New Era

With a different captain at the helm and new production elements, the reality show about charter yachts is switching up its style.

A man in a crew member suit stands behind a bar and tends to flowers in a vase.

By Shivani Gonzalez

Starting a new season of “ Below Deck ” can be similar to returning to summer camp as a kid — you know it’s going to be fun and that you’ll be in the same environment, but some of the people will be different and you’re not quite sure what the vibes will be.

This time around, in particular, feels that way because for the first time in the show’s 11-season run, Captain Lee Rosbach is no longer at the helm. It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that has become one of the most popular entities in the sprawling universe of reality TV since premiering on Bravo in 2013 . The show’s appeal was built on endless romances between various crew members (“boatmances,” as they came to be known), horrible charter guests and some sort of passive-aggressive fight about how many shackles of the anchor chain should be in the water. And there was always Rosbach presiding over the drama as he trudged around the boat, reeling off one liners like “I’m madder than a pissed-on chicken” and “we screwed the pooch so many times we should have a litter of puppies running around.”

At the center of the show now is Kerry Titheradge (the stern yet goofy captain of “Below Deck Adventure” fame), who is managing the Motor Yacht Saint David with the cheeky chief stew Fraser Olender by his side.

With that change in captain, the energy on the boat — both onscreen and off — is different, according to Olender.

“I feel like Kerry this season, as opposed to Lee, has a no B.S. attitude, which I love with him,” Olender said in an interview. “With Kerry, he taught me a lot and sort of forced to me confront issues directly with my team, work them out, as opposed to making executive decisions too soon.”

This shift in management style changes the central conflict — whereas the drama once focused on the captain swiftly kicking out any unpleasant crew member (as we might have seen with Rosbach), the drama now focuses on the whole crew trying to get along (since Titheradge gives people those second chances).

Additionally, Olender noted that the captain’s relationship with the crew can also affect the drama on board.

“Captains absolutely do get involved, whether they know it or not,” Olender said, adding that for the crew, everything is about “trying to impress your captain.”

This phenomenon plays out early in the new season when the lead deckhand, Ben Willoughby, called out a fellow crew member over the radios about not wearing a life vest — something he easily could have done in private. The drama that followed became an interpersonal conflict between the two of them, both with the ultimate goal of impressing Titheradge. (Of course, the two deckhands had kissed on the previous crew night out, which is more in line with the “Below Deck” drama viewers are used to.)

For “Below Deck” showrunners, the changeovers in the cast allowed them to rethink what the show would look like.

From the season premiere, it was immediately apparent that Rosbach’s absence wasn’t the only change this season: The filming is sleeker, the daily, multicourse meals prepared by the chef are given their own glamour shots and the cameras sometimes cut to the perspectives of yachties running around on deck and through the galley.

“Our showrunner, Lauren Simms, is an avid consumer of all different kinds of media,” Noah Samton, a senior vice president of unscripted current production for NBCUniversal, said in an interview. “She pitches us different ideas on how to stylistically evoke different feelings and change the mood a little bit of ‘Below Deck’ without removing what really works.”

Moving through the rest of the season, and potentially through seasons to come, Olender is aiming to bring a cutthroat management style while also bringing affection for his stews, all with his signature British humor.

On Bravo’s side, there are changes in the works for the other “Below Deck” spinoffs — including “Sailing Yacht,” “Mediterranean” and “Down Under” — which collectively, have 26 seasons. Specifically, Samton said that “Down Under” is currently filming and that even though fans should be ready to see new things, the show will stay true to its original concept.

“These are real yachties doing a real job so you have to stay within those confines because the audience isn’t going to want anything that is too produced or fake,” Samton said. “So we have to find ways to reinvent while staying true to the original concept of the show.”

And as Olender said: “I’m sure that every year if I were to work with this franchise again, that I’ll be thrown a collection of total chaotic and disastrous stews — that’s what makes it watchable.”

Captain Kerry’s Below Deck Season 11 Leadership Style Has Been A “Breath Of Fresh Air”

  • Captain Kerry Titheradge brings a breath of fresh air to Below Deck season 11 with his casual yet hands-on leadership style.
  • Fans appreciate Captain Kerry's concern for his crew's well-being and ability to balance high expectations with fairness.
  • Captain Kerry's role modeling and reinforcement of good behavior make him a great leader during the dramatic moments on the St. David.

Below Deck season 11 has welcomed Captain Kerry Titheradge as the leader of the St. David, changing the dynamics on the ship and giving the series a breath of fresh air according to fans . Captain Kerry has been part of the Below Deck franchise in the past, but Below Deck season 11 is the first time viewers have been able to see him operating independently on the main series. Replacing longtime Captain Lee Rosbach, Captain Kerry’s more casual, laid-back attitude has been interesting for viewers as they’ve watched him navigate some difficulties within the St. David crew.

“I am really enjoying seeing this style of management.”

According to fans of Below Deck, Captain Kerry is a refreshing change after years of Captain Lee at the helm. Reddit user u/BasicBitchBarb explained, “his concern for the crews mental and physical health. His hands on approach to teaching. His ability to empathise and relate on a personal matters. I am really enjoying seeing this style of management.” While Captain Kerry has been relaxed , he’s a hands-on leader who often calls the crew in for chats about their performance and what he’s looking for. u/PoisonWoman put it plainly, sharing Captain Kerry is “firm with high expectations but fair.”

Captain Kerry’s Leadership Style Explained

Many Below Deck fans have been excited to watch Captain Kerry work , as they feel he’s showing some of the best possible leadership and modeling that for the rest of his staff, as well. u/harperlax summed up Captain Kerry’s style well, sharing, “He’s really able to walk that fine line between micromanaging and completely hands off. I don’t think we’ve ever seen a captain inspect things so much but he manages to not come across as up the crew’s asses all the time, and he is super quick to point out when they do a great job on things.”

Captain Kerry often takes time out of his job helming the ship to assure that the rest of his crew is working well. While he’s careful and has high standards about the happenings on the St. David, Captain Kerry is also aware that people make mistakes and knows how to reinforce behavior, rather than berate it. In issues he’s faced on Below Deck season 11 with Jared Woodin , for example, Captain Kerry has been quick to tell Jared he’s wrong, but not discourage him from trying again and getting things right. He’s been a great role model for the crew.

With Below Deck season 11 getting into the more dramatic moments of the season, Captain Kerry will have to deal with a lot more than what he’s faced already aboard the St. David. From crew members not getting their work done, to mistakes that could cost the crew and charter guests safety, and everything in between, it appears the Captain will have to deal with a lot more drama. Captain Kerry has been able to deal with everything thrown at him thus far , and it seems the Below Deck star will continue to shine.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo, then streams the following day on Peacock.

Screen Rant

10 below deck charter guests who will never return to the franchise.

While the charter guests who appear on Below Deck have a great time while filming the show, many aren't invited back for a number of reasons.

  • Some charter guests on Below Deck have caused unnecessary drama and won't likely return due to bad behavior.
  • Captain Glenn Shephard from Below Deck Sailing Yacht faced backlash from Barrie, who called him two-faced.
  • Former guest Dr. Francis Martinis will not return to Below Deck after he was arrested for faking prescriptions.

The Below Deck franchise has featured many charter guests since 2013, many of whom will never return . The Bravo series focuses on expensive charters with wealthy guests who have attitude problems and over-the-top demands. That includes Charter guest Alexis Bellino, who boarded Captain Lee Rosbach’s yacht with her boyfriend at the time, Andy Bohn. She was disrespectful and made everyone uncomfortable with her and Andy's PDA. She even insulted crew members after featuring on the show.

Like Alexis, Delores Flora from Below Deck season 8 was a terrible guest. Not only did she misbehave, but she also got drunk and s wam while intoxicated, which is not only not allowed, it frightened the crew members. Delores got kicked out of the yacht the next day. These guests created unnecessary drama on the boat and will likely never return like a few others from the franchise.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

8 barrie & tony, below deck sailing yacht.

Barrie and Tony Drewitt Barlow had a decent time in the Below Deck Sailing Yacht seasons 2 and 3. Despite that, they left with a bitter taste because of Captain Glenn Shephard. In 2021, Barrie participated in a podcast, Pita Party: The Podcast , where he claimed that Captain Glenn bothered him while using his phone .

Barrie said, “he (Captain Glenn) was a two-face b*stard,” adding that he just didn’t like his presence.

7 Frank Fay

Below deck mediterranean.

In Below Deck Mediterranean season 7, Charter guest Frank Fay had a thing for second stew Kyle Viljoen. He pursued him on the yacht, but unfortunately, their relationship didn’t last. Frank will likely never return to the series as long as Captain Sandy Yawn allows Kyle to work for her. Even if Kyle quits, Frank wouldn’t want to be in an environment that would remind him of his failed relationship.

6 Erica Rose

Erica Rose appeared on Below Deck Sailing Yacht two seasons in a row. Erica was highly offensive toward the crew member, as well as her husband, Charles Sanders, and to make things worse, she left the crew with a measly tip , leading fans to slam her on social media. Ultimately, Erica had to apologize for her bad attitude but never returned to give the crew the tip they deserved. Nobody on Below Deck Sailing Yacht would ever want to return.

5 Justin Guarini

Justin Guarini’s time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht was not dramatic at all; however, he’ll probably never return to the series. Justin wouldn’t return because he wasn't the primary guest. He joined his friend, Kim, who wanted to enjoy a luxury yacht trip. It was more of a one-and-done deal. Secondly, nobody recognized him at all. Viewers later realized who he was and how he was the runner-up on American Idol season 1. Justin is a theatre artist and has made a name for himself. However, it was embarrassing that so many fans had no clue who he was .

Below Deck: 8 Charter Guests With The Worst Attitudes

4 johnny damon.

Johnny Damon’s time at Below Deck Med was full of explosive moments. Once, he sent the food back, citing that the experience wasn’t “five stars.” On another occasion, his wife, Michelle, created drama by yelling at the owner of another yacht . Overall, the experience was simply terrible on both sides. Crew members didn’t love Johnny and his wife, and the couple didn’t respect the crew members. It is unlikely that Captain Sandy would want to host the couple again as long as she’s in charge.

3 Krystal Murphy

Former charter guest Krystal Murphy boarded Captain Lee’s yacht with her friends. She immediately began showing red flags, drinking, and just being a menace. Krystal fought with her friend, Chelsea, creating unnecessary drama. She even passed out and punched a friend in the face. Former Chief Stew Kate Chastain disliked serving Krystal and called her a “spoiled brat;” she wanted to throw her off the yacht. Nowadays, Krystal has seemingly become a more private person. It doesn’t seem like Krystal would want to be on TV again.

2 Steve Bradley

Below Deck fans should remember Steve Bradley as he made many appearances on the show. In Below Deck season 3, he wanted a foam party and demanded the crew to figure it out and follow his commands, acting like a king. In Below Deck season 6, Steve made more outrageous requests. Apart from being a wild guest, Steve was entitled and acted inappropriately at times . No Below Deck captain would want to host him again as he didn't come off as very likable.

1 Dr. Francis Martinis

Below deck mediterranean & below deck sailing yacht.

Dr. Francis Martinis from Below Deck Med and Below Deck Sailing Yacht has a zero chance of returning. While the former charter guest didn’t have too many issues on the show, his personal life issues will stop him from appearing on Bravo again. According to TMZ , Dr. Francis and his wife, Jessica, were arrested for filling out fake prescriptions in December 2023 . The couple used the names of Below Deck stars and got caught red-handed. The Below Deck franchise would never want to welcome felons, especially when their mugshots are all over the internet.

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.
