First of all , it was not overbooked – not full capacity so that there is enough room to maintain distance and be comfortable while enjoying the trip and activities . The boat is very clean and the staff are all complying with restrictions – face masks and cleanliness The destination was nice for the swim and snijding , the food was above expectations – clean and tasty . Great drinks available if you wish to buy extras like non alcoholic cocktails .

Victoria – September 27, 2021

Lovely crew and beautiful boat . Literally couldn’t find a fault except maybe look at offering a full day as I enjoyed it too much and needed more time xx captain was lovely and friend, food is Ok but would be better if it had signs for what the food is x

Fenja – September 14, 2021

The cove/place to swim, where we stopped with the catamaran, was not that special, but okay. The food was good and enough for around 70 people on the boat. Age of the group was between 18 and 60 and there were groups as well as couples and single travellers. The boat had more than enough space for everybody. Boat is quite new, looks nice.

Very nice boat, experience to do to discover the island from another angle. Food not bad! The stopping places were good, but a little disappointing compared to the description seen beforehand and sometimes a little short. Overall very nice time spent! * the key is to have a good place 😉

Kevin – August 25, 2021

Fun amazing boat trip around the North Coast. Worth the money! The only thing I wished they did different was not stopping so long at each “stop” if you will. Because for us it was only 2 stops and then we were done, I would have liked it to be shorter but more stops rather than longer but few stops. But other than that, superb! 🙂

Marino – July 31, 2021

it started with bad weather and big waves and we were warned about it and offered to change the dates, but we still went with it – and we are glad we did! at first it was very wavy, but as soon as we docked in Formentor paradise started! We tried the kayaks, enjoyed the water, the food was great and especially the watermelon We did skip 1 beach due to the waves, but we still visited Formentor and the weather got a lot better and then later we also stopped for a quick swim before coming back. Highly recommended and the crew is great casual and relaxed summer atmosphere, it's not sm

Visitor comments

  • "We had a fantastic day on the Mallorca bay tour. The crew were so helpful and friendly and made you feel welcome. The boat is in fantastic condition and is not too crowded. Plenty of room to lie out. You sail to beautiful locations where you can snorkel and enjoy the scenery. Food on board is delicious and loads of it. Would definitely recommend for a great day out." - Trip Advisor
  • "This is an experience to remember. It is not about the food or the service (both luxury level) it's about the feeling when you're there, an amazing sensation, that you won't want to stop smiling:)) leaving from Palma there are two stops for swimming and activities, with snacks, BBQ and some of the best cocktails on the island. The best unspoiled views and, in places, the only way to access the coast. A very professional crew, they helped us with every question and were on hand to make sure we enjoyed the experience. A very tight ship and we will come back, definitely! Gracias captain Juan!" - Trip Advisor
  • "We booked this around a week and a half ago and had a lovely time. The food and drinks were great, we got to paddleboard, and kayaked out to a little beach. The water near the first stop was amazingly clear, and easier to paddleboard in because it was in a smaller bay. It was a great value for everything included, and I highly recommended it, everyone in our group of 9 had a wonderful time." - Trip Advisor
  • "If you want to experience a great and relaxing boat tour, this is what you should experience. The catamaran is smaller than the ones on the pier, which is a great bonus, as it carries only 30 people. So it's not overcrowded. The crew were very nice, great food, and fantastic locations to swim in a crystal clear water." - Trip Advisor

The best way to view the city of Palma de Mallorca is aboard an 80-foot-long catamaran. The Royal Palace of La Almudaina and La Seu Cathedral look stunning when viewed from the bay.

But the great thing about this cruise is that it allows you to do a little bit of everything. Yes, you get to sightsee, but that’s not all.

For a mere €10 fee, you can also hire snorkeling equipment and enjoy swimming in the warm, crystal-clear waters of the bay.

Alternatively, you can hang out on the bow nets, listen to pleasant music, and enjoy a cocktail with your friends.

If you enjoy watersports, you’ll love this cruise. Along Mallorca’s northern coastline, there are many calm and secluded bays, perfect for activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboard (SUP), and snorkeling.

The northern coastline offers some of the best natural scenery of Majorca, where Formentor Lighthouse looms over the cliffs and warns ships away from the northernmost tip of the island.

Take along your camera so you can capture memorable photographs to share with your friends on social media.

After setting sail from Port d’Alcudia, you’ll cruise along the coast past a pretty islet and the Aucanada Lighthouse.

Your catamaran will anchor in Cala den Gossalba, a beautiful sheltered cove near the popular beach of Formentor. Here you can relax on the bow net or make use of the provided watersport equipment.

After you’ve splashed around in the Mediterranean, you’ll probably be hungry. It’s a good job lunch is included. Dine on delicious pasta salad, sausages, barbecued meat, bread, and fresh fruit. Drinks are also included.

3. Half-Day Catamaran Cruise To Es Trenc

  • Duration : 5 Hours
  • Includes : 5-hour catamaran cruise, buffet lunch with drinks, life vests, and free snorkeling equipment hire

If you want to see Majorca’s southern coastline, this is the best cruise for you. If you’re tired of the area around Palma, and have seen the rugged coastline around Puerto Alcudia, why not try the south?

It’s notably warmer here than in the north, which is great for sun worshipers.

The turquoise waters to the south of the island give the southern coastline a particularly picturesque aspect. When your catamaran anchors off Es Trenc Beach, you can swim to the shore or frolic in the crystal-clear water.

Your cruise will take you past Cap Salines, the southernmost tip of the island. Here you’ll see some fantastic landscapes, so keep your camera ready.

The catamaran anchors for a second time off Es Caragol Beach, where you can make use of the free snorkeling equipment hire to explore the water for local marine life.

Or, if you prefer, you can swim over to the beach and soak in the sun on the sand.

After you’ve built up an appetite, the catamaran crew will prepare a buffet meal, with sausages, chicken breast, and fresh salad. For dessert, there’s cake!

Enjoy some local sangria with your meal, or opt for a rosé, red or white wine. Mineral water and soft drinks are also available.

4. Alcudia: Caves & Coastline Boat Trip w/ Snorkelling

  • Departure Times : 9:45 AM
  • Duration : 3 hours
  • Includes : 3-hour boat cruise, free snorkeling & stand-up paddleboard (SUP) equipment hire

If you find sea caves fascinating, you’ll love the east coast of Majorca. This 3-hour cruise aboard a modern boat will take you on a voyage of discovery along the beautiful eastern coastline.

The boat will transport you to Llevant Nature Park , where you’ll have an opportunity to swim or make use of the snorkeling and SUP equipment provided. If you snorkel around the nature park, you’ll observe a wide range of unique marine life.

After your swim, re-board the boat to explore a marine cave. The east coast offers some of the most beautiful scenery on Mallorca, especially the Serres de Llevant Mountain Range.

5. From Palma de Mallorca: 5-Hour Catamaran Cruise

  • Departure Point : From the boat dock near the Auditorium de Palma, Palma
  • Departure Times : 10:00 AM morning cruise or 3:30 PM evening cruise

This is a great cruise for anybody who simply wants a leisurely cruise down the south coast of Majorca. Relax aboard as your catamaran passes millionaire’s yachts and heads on down to the south coast, the warmest part of the island.

Depending on how the wind blows, you’ll sail on over to Cala Vella, east of Palma, or Portals Vells, west of Palma.

There your catamaran will drop anchor, giving you a chance to swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea.

If you prefer, you can make use of the snorkeling equipment provided to explore under the waves and search out the local marine life.

While you’re enjoying the waves and sunshine, the crew will be busy preparing a buffet meal for you. You can look forward to delicious sausages, chicken breast, and fresh salad.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’ll be delighted to hear that there’s cake! And why not enjoy a red, rosé, white wine, or sangria with your meal? Soft drinks and water are also provided.

6. Sunset Catamaran Excursion With Food & Drink From Palma

  • Departure Point : Muelle de las Golondrinas, Palma
  • Departure Time: Around 4:45 PM (Times vary to match sunset)
  • Duration : 4 hours
  • Includes : 4-hour catamaran cruise, buffet lunch, soft drinks, and a licensed bar

Watching a sunset over the Mediterranean Sea is one of those sublime experiences that everybody should have on their bucket list.

The crystal-clear waters sparkling in the bright sunshine, turning hues of red and orange as the sun sinks into the horizon.

Aboard a luxury catamaran, you have the best viewpoint from which to observe this beautiful phenomenon. And while you’re watching, you can enjoy a refreshing cocktail from the licensed bar.

But the cruise doesn’t begin at sunset. First, you’ll cruise along the coast around Palma, allowing you a fantastic view of the white limestone buildings of this historic city.

It’s views like this that caused the poet Robert Graves to make this island his home.

Next, you’ll anchor in the calm cove of Cala Blava. Here you can swim in those crystal-clear waters while the sun still shines. Or, if you prefer, you can lounge on the bow net and absorb the last rays of the dying sun.

After you’ve had your fun, the crew will provide a delicious buffet meal and soft drinks. Try some traditional paella along with chicken wings, roast beef, fresh fruit, and salad.

Finally, you’ll cruise back along the coast to Palma de Mallorca, where you’ll see it in a completely different light.

With street lights and windows lit up, the ancient capital stands out from the sea and casts mesmerizing reflections in the early hours of the night.

7. Mallorca: 5-Hour Isla Dragonera Cruise With Lunch

  • Departure Point : From the Pier Playa Santa Ponsa at 10:30 am or the Pier Playa Tora Paguera at 10:45 am
  • Departure Times : 10:30 AM or 10:45 AM depending on departure point
  • Includes : 5-hour catamaran cruise, buffet lunch with drinks, life vests, and snorkeling equipment hire (with €10 deposit)

This is my personal favorite cruise and the best one for nature lovers. Aboard a large, “submarine-view” catamaran, you have a unique opportunity to try out your wildlife photography while you observe Mediterranean marine life.

It’s also a great opportunity to explore beyond the island of Mallorca, because this cruise takes you to Dragonera Island , a protected natural park and former haunt of pirates.

Your cruise begins along the scenic southwest coast and includes a brief stop in a sheltered cove so you can swim in the warm Mediterranean Sea. Snorkeling equipment is available with a €10 deposit.

Next, enjoy the submarine view of the local sea life while you cruise across to the island. The catamaran has underwater windows built into its hull so you can peer into the crystal-clear waters.

Once you arrive at Dragonera Island, you’ll disembark for an hour of exploration. There’s a sea cave where you can swim, a museum you could visit, and unique animal and plant life.

Watch out for the rare wall lizards endemic to the island, which gave the island its name.

The cruise also includes an inclusive buffet meal. Enjoy local paella, pasta salad, green salad, and water. If you like, you can also try traditional sangria.

Set dramatically by the sea and rooted in Moorish mystery,  Palma de Mallorca is instant love.

The city is splashed with Joan Miró’s modernist art, liberally sprinkled with historic palaces in honey-colored stone, botanical gardens and cafe-rimmed plaças  (plazas), and topped off by one of Europe’s most staggering Gothic cathedrals.

Add in a hotter-than-hot food scene, a Spanish passion for parties, 300 days of sunshine and glorious beaches but a pebble-throw away and you are looking at one of the most enticing cities in the Med .

Where to begin? Perhaps by stuffing a pair of the island’s famous Camper sandals in your suitcase as you’re going to be doing a fair bit of walking – this is a city for aimless ambling, full of intricate detail, street life, beauty and banter. Our first-time guide to Palma de Mallorca gives you a taste of what’s here and helps you piece it all together, but you’re bound to find treasures of your own, too.

When to go to Palma de Mallorca, Spain

With year-round flights and each season delivering its own merits, there’s no bad time to visit Palma de Mallorca – when you go basically boils down to taste and budget.

Spring and autumn can be gorgeous, with crisp skies, trees in bloom, warm days averaging between 20°C (68°F) and 25°C (77°F) brilliant for getting out and exploring, and far fewer crowds than in summer. It’s cheaper and more relaxed to visit during the shoulder seasons and you should be able to score good deals on flights and room rates. Diary dates include April’s  PalmaVela regatta and Semana Santa (Easter) parades, and September’s  Nit de l’Art , cranking up culture with street art and late-night gallery visits.

In summer, temperatures (expect highs of up to 35°C/95°F) and visitor numbers soar. Book well ahead as the best places fill up in a flash. During the July and August school holiday rush, the island is heaving and you’ll want to decamp to the surrounding playas and beach clubs to cool off with dips in the Med. This is peak fiesta time, too, with a flurry of DJ-spun parties, starlit cinema nights and pumping festivals. The biggies to bookmark are in June: the  Mallorca Live music festival in nearby Calvià and the unmissable  Nit de Foc , with fireworks, bonfires, gigs, and devils and demons tearing through  Parc de la Mar by the cathedral.

Flights slow to a trickle and much of Mallorca shuts up shop in winter – with the exception of Palma. Days can still be mild, with highs of around 18°C (64°F), rates and crowds are low, and culturally there’s a good buzz, with lots still happening: December’s Christmas market on Plaça Major, high-spirited partying, flaming pyres and fireworks at January’s Fiesta Sant Sebastián and flamboyant pre-Lenten carnival parades at Sa Rueta and Sa Rua.

How much time should I spend in Palma de Mallorca, Spain?

A few days? Great. A week? Ay, sí, now you’re talking. Palma de Mallorca is often billed as a quick weekend destination or as a springboard for a longer trip around the island, but really you could devote multiple weeks to getting right under the skin of this liveable, loveable city.

Five days is long enough if you’re just planning on sticking around the center, giving you ample time to roam the Renaissance-era sea walls, tick off trophy sights like the showstopping Gothic cathedral and galleries like  Es Baluard , as well as lose yourself in the tangle of Moorish backstreets, historic patio courtyards, gardens and cafe-rimmed plaças .

But why rush straight off? With a week or more, you can tie in a few days in Palma with day trips to the surrounds, maybe hopping aboard a  vintage train to rattle through the citrus orchards and ragged limestone peaks of the  Serra de Tramuntana to  Sóller , driving (by car or bus) the rollercoaster MA-10 to the ochre-colored hill towns of the north, like improbably lovely Deià, or chilling out beaches in the Badia de Palma.

Cyclists riding on the seafront of the Palma de Mallorca

Is it easy to get around in Palma de Mallorca, Spain?

In a nutshell: yes, very. As one of the main holiday hubs in the Med, Palma is extremely well connected when it comes to flights, with regular direct services to 134 destinations in Europe. The city’s airport is Spain’s third largest and sees impressive levels of traffic. All of the big-name budget airlines and car rental agencies operate here. Bus A1 runs very frequently from the airport to the center – a journey of 20 minutes – and on to the entrance of the ferry terminal.

If you would prefer not to fly, you can reach Palma de Mallorca by boat (and, let’s face it, what a way to arrive – the views of the Gothic cathedral rising up above the sea are incredible).  Baleària and  Trasmediterránea run a good ferry service between mainland Spain (Barcelona and Valencia) and other Balearic islands like Ibiza and Menorca.

EMT runs a reliable and inexpensive bus service to the airport, port and surrounding towns and beaches. But central Palma is compact enough never to need a car or public transport. Indeed, the old town’s cat’s cradle of historic alleys and plaças can only really be seen on foot. Parking is a pain and cycle lanes are everywhere, so it’s more fun to rent two wheels – either a bike or e-bike with  Palma on Bike or a vintage Vespa with  Vintage Motors . A great way to breeze to nearby beaches is on the coastal bike path between Palma's port and S'Arenal.

The rose window seen from the interior of Palma de Mallorca's Gothic cathedral

Top things to do in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

You can cram tons into a few days in Palma, but you’d be wise to avoid just randomly ticking off the sights. With its sunny nature, laid-back Mediterranean rhythm and love of alfresco living, this slowly savored city really works its magic when you dip down that nameless alley, wander along the sea walls in the blue dusk, or kick back at a cafe with no plan whatsoever.

Flinging up above the sea in a riot of golden stone, soaring pinnacles and flying buttresses, Palma’s whopping great Gothic cathedral is unmissable – in every possible sense of the word. Get there nice and early to see morning light stream through the rose window (Europe’s largest) and cast rainbow patterns across the vaulted interior, climbing up to the roof terraces for a closer look. Right next door – and just as special – is the  Palau de l'Almudaina , originally an Islamic alcázar (fort), converted into a royal residence in the late 13th century, and now the King of Spain’s plush summer digs.

The cathedral is a terrific starting point for nudging deeper into the historic, alley-woven Sa Calatrava quarter of Palma, once the heart of the old medina. Here you’ll be taken by medieval streets lined with aristocratic townhouses, looming churches like  Gothic Basílica de Sant Francesc  and palm-shaded gardens.

Art? Top billing goes to Es Baluard, built into the fortifications of the city’s 16th-century sea walls, which wows with a permanent collection showing works by Miró, Barceló and Picasso. Hot on its heels is  Museu Fundación Juan March , lodged in a beautiful 17th-century mansion, zooming in on contemporary masterpieces of the Miró, Picasso, Dalí and Eduardo Chillida ilk.

Palma de Mallorca’s increasingly exciting food scene has made it one to watch. For a feast of island produce (cheese, fish, meat, fruit and veg, plump olives, wafer-thin jamón serrano – you name it) and tapas and oysters on the hoof, graze your way around atmospheric  Mercat de l’Olivar . In a former 17th-century convent, Michelin-starred  March Fosh is the table to book well ahead, putting imaginative riffs on clean, bright Balearic flavors.

My favorite thing to do in Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Seeing the morning light stream through the rose window and cast rainbows across Palma’s resplendent catedral is a moment to remember. But my ideal time to appreciate the cathedral in all its Gothic grandeur and ochre-stone beauty is while everyone is still asleep. I love getting up in the pink of sunrise for a run along the waterfront – through the fountain-splashed  Parc de la Mar and on along the Renaissance ramparts,  Dalt Murada , as the first light dances on the sea.

As the city begins to wake up, I might go for a cortado (espresso topped with warm milk) and ensaïmada (Mallorca’s featherlight, snail-shaped pastry) at time-warp bakery-cafe  Ca’n Joan de s’Aigo in Carrer Can Sanç.

Palma is a knockout looks-wise, but really it’s the city’s laid-back beat and rich history that grab me. One of my all-time favorite ways to spend a couple of hours is by wandering through the tightly packed alleys in the old Moorish quarter, diving into lanes like Carrer de la Portella, Carrer de la Puresa and Carrer de Ca'n Angluda to alight upon patis (patios), hidden courtyards with ornately carved stonework, columns and foliage. The  Jardí del Bisbe makes a shady botanical escape from the crowds amid palm, pomegranate and citrus trees, and the  Banys Àrabs baths and gardens recall the island’s fascinating Muslim heritage.

How much money do I need for Palma de Mallorca, Spain?

Budget-wise, Palma is on par with many destinations in the Med. How much you spend depends on the trip you have in mind – you’ll find everything here from cheap-as-chips hostels to sweet, simple guesthouses and five-star boutique hotels with all the luxe suite and infinity pool trimmings. You can save euros on flights and room rates by visiting in the low and shoulder seasons. Restaurants also run the full spectrum. If you want to economize, grab breakfast in one of the city’s bakeries and check out the menú del día (fixed lunch menu), where you’ll often get three courses for as little as €15. Not all sights charge entry so there is plenty here you can do for free.

Average daily costs in Palma de Mallorca

  • Boutique hotel room for two: from €200
  • Dorm bed in a hostel: from €30
  • Self-catering apartment: from €100
  • Car rental: from €40 per day for a small car
  • Dinner for two at a top restaurant: €80-100
  • Coffee and an ensaïmada : €3.50
  • Menú del día lunch: €15–20
  • Beer: €3.50
  • Gallery or museum entrance: €6
  • Bus tickets to nearby towns and beaches: €2-5
  • Bike rental: €10 a day

The most impressive views and photo ops are from the roof terraces popping up above Palma. Time it right and you'll catch a fiery sunset. There are uplifting views reaching out across the city to the brilliant blue band of the Med from the cathedral rooftop, if you’re willing to stomp up 280 steps. Sitting astride a wooded hillside, the Castell de Bellver , a 30-minute bus hop west of town, entices with views reaching across woods to Palma, the Badia de Palma and out to sea.

If you would prefer to see city and sea twinkle with an expertly mixed cocktail in hand, make for one of the city’s many rooftop bars, including faves like the Sky Bar at Hostal Cuba and Nakar rooftop bar.

What to pack when visiting Palma de Mallorca

Avoid the tendency to over-pack – light, floaty layers, linens, flat shoes or sandals (for historic cobbles and seafront strolls), swimwear and towel (for days at the playa), sunhat, sunglasses and sunscreen is pretty much all you are going to need. The vibe is casual island chic even in the smartest of places. In the cooler days of autumn and winter, you might want to throw in a warm fleece and waterproof.

Watch moment helicopter lands on Mark Zuckerberg’s ship off Majorca…but wait until his HUGE superyacht sails into view

THIS is the moment a helicopter lands on Mark Zuckerberg's ship off Majorca as the Meta boss takes luxury travel to the next level.

Incredible footage shows the red chopper descending into Zuck's support vessel, only to be outshadowed by his monstrous superyacht that sails into view.

A red chopper was seen descending into Mark Zuckerberg's private ship

It is understood that the Facebook tycoon will be flocking down to the Spanish hols hotspot to enjoy his new big boy toys.

It is Mark's first visit to Majorca as he tried to sneak his new boats into the island in secrecy,  Majorca Daily Bulletin  reports.

The mega vessel, dubbed the Launchpad, reportedly docked last week at the Club de Mar in Palma, one of the island's most prestigious private marinas.

Also moored alongside the marina is the yacht's support vessel, Wingman, estimated at $30million.

Both vessels are understood to now have left Palma and are off Santa Posa.

A fellow boat owner shared exclusive footage with The Sun showing the 387-foot-long yacht's navy blue steel hull glistening under the Majorcan sun.

Another clip then shows the stunning boat with its luxury interiors lit up in the evening.

Boat owner Yannick, from  Sail Trip Mallorca , is docked just a few boats down from the Launchpad and can't get over the "unreal" yacht.

He told The Sun: "It arrived on Thursday in silence, and over the last days we saw a lot of crew cleaning the outer hull and general maintenance.

"We see lots of big superyachts but this one is of the level unreal.

"When you walk or drive past Mark’s yacht you have a view at the cruise boats and you wonder which one is bigger."

Yannick believes that the Facebook boss spends around $80,000 a day on his boat as its expected running cost can be around 10 per cent a year on the purchase price.

Zuck had been eyeing up the ultra-lux vessel for a while, as  he was seen touring the boat  then known as Project 1010 during its construction in March.

Project 1010 made its maiden voyage from the Netherlands after receiving special permission to be imported just weeks ahead of Zuckerberg's birthday on May 14, raising questions about whether it could be a gift to mark the occasion.

But £300million plus yacht maintenance costs are no problem to 39-year-old Zuckerberg, as he was the youngest billionaire to make the top 10 wealthiest people in the world list.

In 2021, Zuckerberg was reportedly worth $108 billion, an amount that rose to $138.4 billion by January 2024.

Zuckerberg is hardly known for conserving his money when faced with large purchases.

By Juliana Cruz Lima , Foreign News Reporter

THE Launchpad is longer than 118 metres and has a registered tonnage of more than five thousand tonnes.

This magnificent ship, valued at $300 million, was built by the prestigious Feadship shipyard in the Netherlands and delivered this year.

It can accommodate 26 guests and a crew of 50 people.

The yacht's exquisite design, featuring a navy blue steel hull and a white aluminium superstructure, is the creation of Espen Oeino, a renowned firm in the maritime sector.

Luxurious and extensive onboard facilities include a cinema theatre, beach club area, beauty centre, solarium on teak decks, and a helicopter.

The supership can reach 24 knots and has innovative features like underwater lights and GPS anchoring.

It also boasts autonomy in maritime navigation.

The Launchpad's four diesel engines are a major contributor to its amazing speed and are necessary for lengthy trips like transatlantic journeys.

It differs from many modern yachts with this feature, which frequently prioritises different features.

Zuck also docked his support vessel, the Wingman

4 Best Things To Do On The Island Of Majorca, Spain

M ost visitors go to Majorca for the beaches, some for the out-of-season hiking, but there’s a lot more to do on this Spanish island than soak up the Sun and trek the trails. It’s a small island, though still the biggest in the Balearics — the small collection of Spanish islands also including Ibiza and Menorca. Much of Majorca is still rural, and if you go inland just a little from the coast, you’re back in “Old Spain,” but the capital city of Palma is a stunning city with a lot to offer visitors. Its medieval old town is architecturally dazzling and it’s where you’ll get the best selection of shops, restaurants, and bars.

Take in the city’s delights and then head up to the north of the island for traditional Spanish charm. If you rent a car, you can even discover some lesser-visited attractions and some out-of-the-way, less touristy places. Here’s my pick of the best things to do on the island of Majorca, Spain.

1. Palma

I love Palma. Its architecture is truly spectacular and the city holds such beauty in every small street and market square. It’s also right by the sea and has a beach and a beautiful old harbor with a lovely promenade. It’s also where you’ll find the biggest concentration of things to do on Majorca.

The Cathedral

The cathedral dominates the landscape in Palma, you can see it from many spots as you travel around, and it looks incredible from the sea if you’re on a boat. It’s a glorious Gothic cathedral that’s beautiful from the outside and much bigger than it looks once you get inside. It does get busy and many tour groups visit, but it’s worth dealing with the crowds to see the inside of this majestic structure. There are various different tickets you can buy, including a basic entry ticket and a ticket that allows you access up the many steps to the terraces. If you can make it up the steps, it’s a great insight into hidden parts of the cathedral and you get amazing views of the city and the harbor from the top.

Palma Aquarium

More than just an aquarium , this is closer to a sea life center in how it’s laid out and what’s offered. You can pay extra to snorkel with the rays, watch feeding time for the sharks at no extra charge, and experience a 3D cinema area that gives you an immersive experience of the aquarium and its inhabitants. It’s a large aquarium with a lot to see and you can easily spend most of the day in here. To do and see everything will take around 5 hours, but there is a good restaurant on site, so you can relax and take your time. If you don’t want to do any of the extra activities, you can make it around the aquarium in about an hour.

Castell De Bellver

A short bus ride (buses 46 and 47) from the center of the city is Bellver Castle . This 14th-century castle on the hill does have a few steps to get up to it, but once you’re up there, the views over Palma are incredible. The displays inside the castle give you information on its history and there’s also a museum that takes you through the history of the city. The facilities are pretty basic. There are toilets, but if you’re planning on visiting over lunch, take your own food and drink with you. It’s an interesting excursion from the city and tickets are very reasonably priced, plus it never gets too busy.

2. Caves Of Drach

Porto cristo .

On the east coast of the island, in the town of Porto Cristo, the Caves of Drach (nothing to do with Count Dracula) is a natural cave formation in an underground lake. Visitors walk down into the caves, on a series of safe walkways, to view the impressive stalagmites and stalactites that are literally everywhere and have grown into some unusual shapes. You then have the option of walking the bridge to the other side of the lake or taking one of the boats on the underground lake. Personally, I found the boat to be a much more experiential way to do it.

Each visit has a section of the tour when the lights are turned off. It is pitch black down in the caves, but there’s a reason they do this. Boats carrying musicians light up the darkness and they give you the most moving underground lake concert you’ll ever experience. Be aware it gets very busy and you’ll be down there with a lot of other people, but it’s quieter early in the morning and late in the afternoon.

Pro Tips: It’s about an hour away by car or bus from Palma and there is a gift shop and café on site. Guides often try to rush you through the caves to get the next visitors in, but don’t be rushed.

3. La Casa De Robert Graves

In the small coastal village of Deia, on the west coast of the island, is La Casa de Robert Graves . The house where writer Robert Graves once lived is now a museum. Robert Graves, author of Goodbye to All That and I, Claudius , lived here from 1929 until his death in 1985. His grave can be found beneath a cypress tree in the churchyard. The house and gardens have been kept pretty much as they were when Graves lived here, except for some modifications to allow for disabled access. Inside the house is a short film about Graves’s life and a series of photos on the wall. Most of the house, apart from this, is exactly as it was when the writer lived here.

After visiting the house, spend some time in Deia . It’s a pretty coastal village flanked by mountains with a quiet small-shingle beach. The village itself is also quiet, but there is a bar — Café sa Fonda — that can get quite lively and has live music trad sessions that seem spontaneous. The village has long been loved by artists and musicians, as well as its famous writer, and that still applies today. It has a bohemian feel to it and tends to attract creative people looking for somewhere different than the usual Majorca resorts.

4. Old Town Of Alcudia

A walled 14th-century city, Alcudia’s old town is totally pedestrianized and retains most of its original walls. You can walk the walls for much of the way around the town but not all the way. The town square, the old houses, and the buildings show off some lovely examples of traditional Spanish architecture. You can take some time wandering through the narrow streets and alleys, which are lined with small shops and restaurants here and there. There’s an old church — worth popping into when it’s open — opposite to some Roman ruins. At night, the whole town is lit up and feels very atmospheric, especially as you are then within the walls. There’s a market on the weekends, which is popular and gets busy with locals.

Harbor And Beach

Alcudia also has a lovely harbor that’s a peaceful place for a wander. You can rent a boat from here or go on an organized boat ride out to sea. The main draw of Alcudia, though, is the long sandy beach. It’s a beautiful spot that attracts families and couples, as it never gets too touristy or busy and manages to retain its laid-back and peaceful vibe.
