A thoroughly professional outfit

We recruited Halcyon to run an IPV coded sea trial on a 53' ketch we are looking to purchase. The service was great - very well organised. Simon (the skipper) was knowledgeable and it was fantastic to get an independent point of view on the boat. I’d highly recommend Halcyon - a thoroughly professional outfit.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Halcyon Yachts, they are a highly professional service that puts customer service at the heart of everything they do. When they moved my last boat, it arrived to me in better condition than it was in when it left the marina! They certainly deserve their fantastic reputation

A pleasure to be of service. You have a beautiful yacht!

Career Development Scheme 2022-23

Through Halcyon’s Career Development Program I spent the year working on a wide variety of sailing yachts, learning a great range from yacht maintenance to Astro-Navigation, as well as getting to travel to some of the most beautiful places across the globe. The mileage I built up of roughly 16,000nm has put me on a great track for future job opportunities and hope to get my Yacht Master Ocean in the coming months. I can’t highly recommend to anyone looking to start out in the sailing industry but doesn’t know where or maybe struggling, that with Halcyon you will have a great experience at the same time as being safe and working with a great team on the boat and on land. Thank you to Pete and the team, can’t wait for the next delivery!

Perfect Experience

From start to finish our experience with Halcyon Yachts has been professional and courteous. Glenn Upton was the perfect skipper, helped by his crew Benjamin Sellers. I was kept updated throughout the delivery, including photographs of the passage and reassurance that all was going well. I can not recommend Halcyon Yachts highly enough.

Seychelles to Australia

Our experience with Halcyon has been nothing but traumatising, and financially debilitating. The issues we have experienced are to many to write about here, however, most concerning is the involvement their skipper, Micheal Stewart, had in us being taken advantage of by many thousands of dollars. In our opinion, Halcyon have neglected there duty of care and 5 star experience. This makes me question their ability to handle difficult situations in a professional and honest manner. We are currently out of pocket ~ $50,000 AUD and more by the time the boat arrives in Australia. Halcyon why don't you reply to our emails and work with us to come up with a resolution? Some form of compensation or refund should be the beginning at least. The boat only travelled 1163 NM yet we've been charged for the entire trip, plus 25 delay days in the Maldives (at no fault of our own or the boat), which has impacted our business to the sum of a lot of money. Our catamaran will be chartered in Australia, therefore everyday it is not here we are loosing thousands. We feel you are leaving us hanging as the situation seems to have been ignored on your behalf. As a business owner, surely you can understand the impact this can have on a company. We ask you to do the right thing, and refund the money you owe us at least.

This review is slanderous and does not reflect the situation accurately at all. We all tried so hard to make the delivery work and we went above and beyond to help the owner on numerous occassions. We did eventually have to cancel the contract on the basis of safety to the vessel and crew. The yacht was in very poor order and the owner was refusing to allow us to make the repairs required to continue the journey. It was not a decision we took lightly and we continued to help the owner after the contract had ended and the crew had returned home.

I needed a delivery at short notice

I needed a delivery at short notice, the Halcyon Yachts responded well, had a crew within a week for trip back from Portugal to the UK in Sept 2019. The trip was hard and in-spite of a few mechanical problems, the team persisted, used their imagination to secure & implement solutions without much delay and successfully delivered the yacht safely to our home port in Suffolk.

A really great company to deal with, personable, totally professional and great with communicating with you on all aspects of yacht delivery. It is crystal clear my skipper, Mark and crew Susan , both with top mariner qualifications were devoted sailors but also fantastic company. Pleased to recommend Halcyon Yachts

Having had Halcyon Yachts recommended to us by a friend who had used their services we engaged Halcyon Yachts to deliver our recently purchased Beneteau 331 from Bangor Marina in Northern Ireland to Falmouth Marina in Cornwall – the trip needing to be made during February. We were very impressed with the helpful friendly service from initial contact with the office team to meeting the delivery crew upon arrival in Cornwall. By chance the Skipper selected was based not far from where we live, and we took the opportunity to meet with him prior to the voyage. Prior to the start of the voyage the Skipper made excellent decisions to find and take best advantage of a small weather window in the weather forecast. His decisions proved to be spot on. We are happy to recommend Halcyon Yachts because of their attention to detail and the fact that everything operated and worked as it should when they left Northern Ireland and everything operated and worked as it should upon handover in Cornwall.

Perfect, safe, efficient and highly enjoyable delivery Poole-Largs Oct 21

We used Halcyon to relocate our 36ft yacht from Poole to Largs, a trip of about 500nm, in October 2021; whilst we are experienced at sailing the waters of the Channel, our night time experience and long passage experience is limited, and it was appropriate to seek more experienced assistance for this passage in October weather. Halcyon were brilliant to deal with from first contact to after safe arrival. Skipper David was highly experienced, with safety first and foremost, content to plan on seeking shelter from adverse weather and content to press on when reasonable to do so. The boat arrived much cleaner than she departed too! David and Brian were a real pleasure to sail with, great company and totally competent. We would not hesitate to recommend Halycon to anyone needing assistance to relocate a vessel, for any distance.

Well-known member

Whay do you knpow about these boats? Interestedin a 1973 version for long distance cruising. Any info welcomed- thanks

HenryB

I owned one for about 14 years and cruised Cornwall, Scillies, France and Northern Spain. They are very tough and seaworthy. I always felt safe, even in quite rough seas. Bear in mind though that they are quite small compared to a modern 27 footer. Mine was a 1969 model and was fitted with a 8 HP SABB motor with variable pitch prop. This was totally reliable and made an excellent motor sailing engine but lacked the power to make much headway into rough seas. I can't recollect having to replace anything due to wear and tear in all the time that I owned her. Hope this helps, Henry

I had a halcyon 23 for 5 seasons and did 2500 miles overall down channel and round thames estuary. Loved her to bits but 23' really much too small for long term cruising. Have heard v good things about the 27' and they have been used a lot for cruising. Visit the OOffshore Yachts Class Owners assn (OYCOA) webiste (if it is still exisiting) www.oycoa.org.uk . Their latest newsletter has a good story of a delivery of an H27 from the East coast to Scilly. Besides all teh standard things on on any boat: a) has she got a newer engine thatn 1973?! b) Halcyons historically are weak at the deck/hull join and can leak there. Check v carefully and consider costs of remediation c) lots of them were painted in duckegg blue, which fades to a unrepeatable colour - it can't be matched ... this may not be an issue on the boat you're looking at. Best of luck
Sarah&Pip

Boat is for 18 year old to go off in- agree boat is quite small inside but seems ok for 1-2 youngsters. I understand they sail well but have been told they can be a bit tender- what do you think? Any problems with the hull? The one we are interested in has been regelcoated-red-and I am wondering if that is to hide anything. Thanks for your help.

Mine had been regelcoated by the previous owner. I was very suspicious of this as it seemed very unusual but I had no problems. It also was never fitted with an anode which again seems odd but nothing wore away nor dropped off so it couldn't have been needed. They are on the "tender" side - i.e. they heel a lot, so remember to take in a reef early - you will go just as fast, in more comfort. We cruised a lot with 4 on board, 2 adults and our 2 children who were in their teens. This wasn't a problem while the weather was good but I must admit that is wasn't a lot of fun when it was wet. When I bought mine it seemed to be the best that I could get for serious cruising for the money and I guess that still is the case. Regards, Henry

Had one for 11 years and cruised extensively Scottish West Coast with wife and two kids. Devastated when she was sunk by new owners...By the way there is an anode within the heat exchanger on Sabb 8hp.

well we've put in an offer subject to survey and fingers crossed- if all goes well daughter intends to leave school next week and move aboard! I am wondering if we are doing the right thing now!!!!!!

  • 10 Jun 2003

I moved aboard my boat at 16 years old, it was a Sadler 25, a great boat. I'm sure she is doing the right thing. Ellen Mac's Auntie had a Halcyon 27 and that's what inspired her, you must have read the book by now...

If it does not work out see the Halcyon big brother bellow! Paul
Paul http://www.polarity2.com/Clipper.htm

If your purchase does not work out you might like to consider my Halcyon CLIPPER 27 (also by Offshore yachts). The CLIPPER has bigger accomodation than the Halcyon 27 (due to very small side decks) It has a Fin keel. You can view my boat at www.billdick.btinternet.co.uk
BillD

Sorry- daughter has now bought halcyon 27 and is currently living onboard preparing for the BOG ADVENTURE- circumnavigation. Good luck with selling your boat!

halcyon

Just caught up with your post. We own a Halcyon 27 that the previous owner modified for long distance cruising, USA, West Indies, Azores, Med, Gib and back to the UK. Will drop you a private mail with our phone number, we can give you gen on there problems and mods, boat is in Cornwall. Brian

1961 Alden Challenger 38 Delivery

So very impressed with my experience using Halcyon to deliver my rather beautiful and somewhat well travelled 1961 Alden Challenger. Despite a number of technical issues and battles with weather (a January delivery with very variable weather), boat arrived safely and in significantly better condition that when it started. There was good communication, and a can-do attitude shown throughout by the skipper. I would highly recommend them.

Career Development program

I recently completed a 3-month Career Development Program with Halcyon Yachts. During this time, I was placed on multiple deliveries throughout Europe and the UK, where I had the privilege of learning from their top delivery skippers. This helped me to develop my own approach as a skipper, as I was able to observe the unique ways each skipper ran their boat and select what worked for me. It was refreshing to work with a company that delivers on all their promises. I was scheduled on back-to-back deliveries with no days lost waiting for boats. My expenses were paid timeously. Travel between boats was straightforward and being a South African they assisted me with my travel documents. I can highly recommend Halcyon Yachts to any sailor who is serious about building a career at sea.

The Halcyon Effect

William joined us as crew to cross the Celtic Sea, Penzance to Kinsale. The weather has been unpredictable and we wanted a third crew member. He was perfect. Friendly, helpful, skilled and crucially relieved me from an 8 hour watch bang on time. 0200 relief is a big one after a long watch. Even though roly and uncomfortable he did his stint below on food prep. Admin wise, Peter and the team were great efficient and reacted quickly when we decided on additional crew.

HANSE 350 Fleetwood to Shotley

The crew were very informative and kept me up to date at all times. It was not an easy trip and it was at a difficult time of year. The very mindful of ensuring the boat wasn't subject to excessive wind & wave loads. The boat was clean and tidy when I got on board, and they were very helpful when i joined them from Cowes to Shotley, the very last leg of the journey.

Delivery from Gironde France to Portishead UK

The only issue was the late replacement of the skipper which led to a delayed departure. However, a replacement was quickly found and the delivery successfully completed. Without that, it would have been a 5-star rating. The skipper and crew were friendly, helpful and thorough and the back-up from Halcyon could not be faulted. I liked the WhatsApp group set up to keep the owner, crew and Halcyon updated on progress and conditions with text and photos. A technical fault discovered at about halfway was swiftly and professionally dealt with without adversely affecting the schedule. On arrival the yacht was very neatly and cleanly handed back to the owner. Would thoroughly recommend Halcyon.

Owner assist to Canaries

Glenn came on board as an “owner assist” skipper in our first proper offshore from UK to the Canaries. In every aspect he excelled – not just in keeping us safe but taking every opportunity to teach us, help us fix what went wrong, and generally just making us feel like we had another of our mates on board (albeit one with much more experience!). We cannot recommend enough – thank you!

A very helpful company

A very helpful company. The crew got our boat to her destination despite difficult weather and a couple of challenges from an ageing vessel. They were always positive, patient and pleasant, despite being tired after long passages.

S/Y Whimbrel Palma / Norway Sweden / Palma 2022

My boat called Whimbrel , it is a 62 foot Chuck Paine designed aluminum sailing sloop based in Palma . This year -2022 -i planned at least two months cruising in South Norway and the East Coast of Sweden with family and friends . Due to work pressures i could not do the positioning of the boat in either direction . Halcyon however provided the solution . This was carried out in both directions with little fuss and appropriate care and attention . I would be happy to recommend Halcyon to any owner . Regards Paul Over , Owner .

Halcyon Yachts recently moved my boat from Oban in Scotland to North Wales. The delivery crew were excellent. Very friendly, thorough, safe and professional. The delivered the boat at the agreed time despite some difficult weather. At the end of the trip the boat was spotless and their handover was very informative. Thanks very much indeed.

Pete and his team were super efficient

Pete and his team were super efficient. Everyone wants their boat delivered, "yesterday". But their advice and patience, waiting for the correct weather window was the right call. They were proactive on all aspects and it was great to get the regular feedback on the actual location of the boat during this 4 day delivery trip. Thank you. Mike - Dehler 42

Yacht delivery from Madeira to Dover

We used Halcyon Yachts who provided a skipper with two crew members to deliver our yacht from Madeira to Dover. The company was very helpful and arranged the delivery in a short period of time which enabled the boat to be brought back before too much uncertainty with the weather crossing Biscay. The skipper kept us informed of his progress and even sent some photos and short video clips. The whole delivery experience was very professional and we felt confident that our yacht was in safe hands. If the need arose, we would certainly use Halcyon Yachts again.

Best decision to use Halycon Yachts for our delivery from UK to Portugal in late April 2023. Five star rated skipper. Made all the right decisions to keep us safe whilst crossing Biscay. Would highly recommend this Company

diabolical service. Did not even get our boat a third of the way from Seychelles to Australia, and still have the cheek to not refund a penny. They were completely out of there depth but to proud to admit it. Abandoned our boat and a female crew member in the Maldives. To top it off their dodgy Skipper, Micheal Stewart, took advantage of the situation and attempted to sell the boat. Unprofessional and unethical. Wouldn’t let them loose with a rowing boat on a lake. Beware … In reply to your comment, it's only slanderous if it's untrue.

Date of experience : 03 November 2021

This review is slanderous and does not reflect the situation accurately at all. We all tried so hard to make the delivery work and we went above and beyond to help the owner on numerous occassions. We did eventually have to cancel the contract on the basis of safety to the vessel and crew. The yacht was in very poor order and the owner was refusing to allow us to make the repairs required to continue the journey. It was not a decision we took lightly and we continued to help the owner after the contract had ended and the crew had returned home.

Transfer of a sailing yacht from south-west England to the Baltic Sea in wintertime....

Despite the extreme winter conditions the competent Crew with skipper Steve brought the yacht to its destination safely and undamaged. Also a friendly and communicative office at any time before and during the transfer. Would fall back on Halycons anytime. I would also like to take these likeable and experienced skipper on board to support me on an extended holiday Trip. Thanks Steve, crew and Pete!!

Trip from Marmaris to Northern Spain on a Dufour 56

Halcyon provided me with a Yachtmaster instructor to help us on a trip from Marmaris to Northern Spain. They made the whole process very simple to set up and delivered exactly what they had said they would. We had some challenges on the trip and Dave Preston, the skipper they provided, was excellent. His experience and practical skills shone through and provided the confidence and advice that we had wanted. I wouldn't hesitate recommending Halcyon.

Delivery Crew for Halcyon International Yacht Deliveries

My first delivery as crew for Halcyon International and I joined a long passage from Southampton to Greece, and it was faultless. From the initial contact and necessary admin right through to our arrival back in the UK everything was clearly explained and swiftly completed. Our very experienced skipper Glenn kept us on track and although we faced some minor issues with the boat along the way, he always made sure the crew were informed and our options discussed. The clients couldn't have been nicer, and I would highly recommend sailing for Halcyon, I certainly will again

Good Company that cares about your vessel.

I have worked with Halcyon yachts for at least 5 years, and have found Pete and his team to be most professional. I have over 100k successful miles moving all types of sailing vessels around the world. Happy to reccomend Pete and his team at Halcyon for your next vessel delivery.

Best sailing experiences of my crewing career!

Crewing for Halcyon Yachts were my best sailing experiences. I took part in the Delivery Skipper Development Program in 2020 and logged over 3,000 nautical miles on a variety of different boats across Europe. Pete and Minka went above and beyond to make sure I got the mix of sailing I was looking for to bolster my experience after completing my Day Skipper course. I joined expert ocean skippers to deliver boats such as Moodys, Beneteaus, brand new Lagoons and even a Hallberg Rassy. I crossed the Bay of Biscay twice, the Irish sea and of course the English Channel plenty of times too! For anyone considering crewing for Halcyon - I couldn't recommend it highly enough. When I'm lucky enough to have my own yacht, I also know where I'll be coming to get assistance moving it :) Thanks Pete and team!

Thanks Chris. It was great to have you onboard!

Crew information, captain: richard harpur.

CAPTAIN | Richard Harpur South African BIO: After growing up around boats, jet skis and anything that floats on water, Richard gained a passion for marine life and sustainable recreational fishing from a young age. Once he finished school, he began working at an exotic vehicle dealership managing and assisting in sales of high-end luxury cars. One year after his yachting career cast off on a 55m charter boat. Since then, Richard has hosted on private and charter yachts ranging from 30-90m giving him vast experience in all aspects of the exterior and helped build a solid safe foundation for Guest’s ultimate enjoyment. Between yachting, Richard has worked as a fishing guide and lodge manager at a 5-star boutique fishing lodge in Mozambique. His passion for making sure guests have a fantastic time both in and out of the water is insatiable. His favorite saying is “Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints.” CHEF | Nina-Sue Hopkins South African BIO: Chef Nina-Sue comes from a wine farm in the Western Cape winelands, South-Africa! “With wine, there is always lovely food paired with it”, she says. Nina-Sue spent holidays at the family home in the Western Cape, South Coast of Africa, where her dad, wine farmer and very passionate fisherman, taught her how to catch and clean all seafood themselves. They were always very thankful to have fresh seafood on the table, paired with Hand harvest wine made from their very own vineyards and always having space for a vegetable and herb garden. This naturally gave Nina-Sue the opportunity to grow a passion for all the lovely flavours of food and wine together. Her passion for food grew more and more, especially when her best friends kept on telling her-YOU are a natural in the kitchen. She knew this was something she should pursue and here she is, 10 years later! Sailing the seas and cooking on a boat! The ocean is a part of who Nina-Sue is and she is thankful to be a part of the journey because all the destinations have been worth it! ENGINEER | Wayne Richter South African BIO: Wayne is from a small town on the east coast of South Africa called East London. Wayne has been in the yachting industry since 2017 and is working his way up as an Engineer. He has sailed most of the Mediterranean and is on his second year exploring the Caribbean. Wayne enjoys diving, fishing, watersports and overlanding and 4x4 trails. CHIEF STEWARDESS | Shannon Young South African BIO: Shannon is a 24 year old, South African second stewardess on board M/Y Halcyon. She enjoys all forms of art, reading, yoga and anything related to being in the Ocean. Shannon is relatively new to the yachting world as she studied Graphic Design and worked in the advertising world before deciding to make the leap into yachting industry. Her experience in the service industry and her desire to travel the world, naturally brought her here. And she has absolutely fallen in love with yachting. 2nd STEWARDESS | Tracey Osterloh South African BIO: Tracey is a friendly family orientated individual who comes from a farm outside of East London. This is where she adopted her passion for the outdoors, nature, and later on her love of team sport. Holidays to the coast gave her the love she now has for the ocean and while administration has been her profession, she wants to take her enthusiasm and zest for travel to create an exciting experience with guests and crew alike in the bigger office. FIRST OFFICER | Tristan James Wille South African BIO: Raised in Grahamstown, South Africa, Tristian left his small hometown immediately after finishing school and began his career in yachting. He started based in Cape Town where he was able to work alongside his studies before going on to work a season in Spain and then Fort Lauderdale. As a child Tristian grew up very familiar with boats, learning to drive a dinghy form his father at a young age and always fishing, wake surfing, wake boarding and skiing. Everything came very natural to him which is a big reason for why he joined yachting, considering it almost as a hobby. DECKHAND | Cejay Coleman South African BIO: Cejay was born in Durban, South Africa. He is very energetic and happy person that enjoys travel and adventure. Thanks to his true love for ocean and nature, he was naturally drawn to the yachting industry which he joined 3 years ago. Cejay loves extreme sports, anything on the water and has his private pilot's license. He looks forward to seeing you on board of Halcyon for a fun and relaxing times in the tropics!

Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). The remainder of the APA is returned after charter.">Price Terms: Plus Expenses

The perfect choice for yacht delivery!

Extremely happy with Halcyon and their team to assist me with delivery of a 44 ft catamaran from Hamble to Kip Marina in Scotland. I also completed my Coastal Skipper while en route. Flexible, professional, reliable and great value for money. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

  9. Any opinions on a Halcyon 23 please

Visit site. The Halcyon 23 has a lot to answer for - it was the first boat I ever sailed on, in 1975, and I was hooked for life! I don't remember much detail, but it was a solid little boat with cosy accomodation. The boat the OP has viewed seems remarkably cheap; there is one near my mooring which is for sale at £6500, which I would say is ...
