While the exterior of the yacht has been enhanced, Naval Architect for Simonis Voogd Design, Alexander Simonis, tells us this:

“Most of the work has been done ‘under the bonnet’ so to say by advances made in the construction geometry of the new 50. To create the beautiful open plan layouts and the nearly 360-degree view from the saloon area while at the same time have a strong and stiff yacht which is not too heavy requires advanced engineering solutions.

The new Leopard 50 makes use of carbon-infused ring frames in the most critical areas to achieve this. This type of construction has been pioneered on the larger all carbon racing catamarans and is now successfully being applied in this Leopard cruising catamaran so that we can offer the best possible mix between comfort, space and performance.”

The innovative flybridge on the Leopard 50 includes a lounge area, a sunbed and shade awning. Access to the flybridge is provided by floating stairs leading up from the aft cockpit. While under sail, passengers can move about the flybridge with ample headroom and never worry about interference from the boom.

S/V Cheval is a 1995 Outremer 50 Standard catamaran, for sale by owner.

We purchased Cheval in January 2013. As the second owners we have continuously upgraded her including her most recent upgrade late 2023 through 2024 in preparation for a pacific passage. A change of plans creates a rare opportunity to acquire this Outremer 50 standard ready to cross an ocean. She will be available for viewing in the Florida Keys until April after which she can be viewed in the Bahamas. (Not for sale while in Bahamian waters)

As of this writing to the best of my knowledge she is the only Outremer 50 standard currently for sale in the world. Sometimes referred to as the Porsche of catamarans this boat has the speed you would expect while being large enough to provide comfortable accommodations.

As she is only cored in the decks with solid hulls the common occurrence of water found in the cored hull at survey will not be a problem.

The Outremer 50 Standard is a blue water catamaran designed to cruising. The yacht offers the ultimate sea worthiness, high speed, space and privacy. The Outremer quality, performance and maintainability are well know. In comparison to the more modern Outremer models, this earlier design follows a much more classic approach and employs the same uncompromising, solid, construction techniques.

The model 50 Standard, designed by Gerard Danson, is the most spacious bridge deck and cockpit model because of its extended beam – 7.80m instead of 7.20m – compared to the classic Outremer 50 Light. The difference between the 50 Standard and the other Outremer models 50/55 light and 45 is most noticeable in the saloon, which provides remarkably spacious living area and standing height. At the same time, the handling of this yacht in marinas and anchorages is proven to be comparably easy as it is not excessively long.

The hull layup begins with underwater layers of vinylester resin. Both bows include forward crash boxes and bulk heads. Aft, the engine rooms are separated from the living space and accessible from outside. All bulkheads, berths and lockers are laminated to the hull to provide maximum structural rigidity. The decks are infused with 5 mm and 20 mm PVC for structural performance and insulation, and glued and then laminated over the whole length of the joint, which gives it exceptional strength. Strong, molded, polyester dagger boards, with infused polyester daggerboard shafts, allow for excellent close-hauled, upwind sailing performance and balance. Skegs protect the props and support the hulls when beaching. There are extra-large rudder blades provide exceptional maneuverability and course stability.
