One of the beautiful villages on the wistful network of creeks off the Fal river , Mylor has long been connected with shipping. In days gone by it would have been packet ships bringing trade here, but now it is the heart of a yachting and pleasure craft paradise.

The parish church in Mylor is dedicated to St Melorus (or Milor, Melor). By the late 19th century, the church had fallen into some disrepair and a process of renovation began. During these renovations a 17 foot celtic cross was found - it was being used as a flying butress for one of the churches walls. The cross now stands in the churchyard, legend says it originally marked the site of St Mylor's grave. The churchyard contains many graves of those who made their livings on the sea. These include the graves of several Packet ship captains. There is also an attached graveyard for more than 60 of the men and boys of HMS Ganges , a naval training ship that was moored at Mylor for over 30 years in the late 1800s. The ship became infamous for its harsh conditions and zealous discipline

Where Mylor Creek joins the River Fal and Carrick Roads is Mylor Yacht Harbour. The marina is well equipped with plenty of facilities including 400 berths. A haven for shipping for 200 years Mylor was at one time the most westerly Naval Dockyard and victualling station in England. The harbour went on to become home to the notorious HMS Ganges and the Falmouth Packet ships. During World War II the harbour was a base for operations conducted by the French Resistance. It is now home to the last remaining fleet of oyster fishermen.

In nearby Restronguet , the thatched Pandora Inn has many a tale to tell. The Inn was once owned by Captain Edwards (a nasty peice of work by all account) who brought the HMS Bounty mutineers to justice - the name comes from the frigate HMS Pandora which he sailed to Tahiti to hunt the mutineers down. The inn is charmingly placed at the water's edge with its own pontoon. Those who can, arrive by boat!

Welcome to Take a Turn Yachting, we are an RYA Training Centre and Yacht Charter company. Based in Mylor Yacht Harbour , Falmouth, Cornwall, we are in the perfect location to explore the West Country.

Offering bare boat yacht charter, sailing trips and RYA tuition we can cater to all abilities and aspirations. So if you are a seasoned sailor looking to head to the Scillies or you’ve never set foot on a boat before we can find the right boat, course or trip to suit.

All our boats are inspected to strict standards issued by the Maritime Coast Guard agency and we pride our selves on the presentation of our boats.

If you are looking for something smaller, have a look at the Cornish Shrimpers or Jeanneau Sun 2500 run by Mylor Boat Hire .

Our state of the art marina sits within a prime location on the Carrick Roads which offers some of the best sailing waters in Europe. With 150 berths and 250 swinging moorings as well as a large visiting pontoon, Mylor has range of off and onshore facilities to cater for the boat owner. Customers have access to our Marine Team full service boat yard, fuel, water & electricity supply, private water taxi service, drying out facilities, storage ashore, winter lay-up, dry berthing and a public slipway as well as hoisting and craneage up to 35 tonnes.

To ensure our customers have a pleasant stay there is access to modern shower and toilet facilities, laundrette, chandlery, riggers, parts & showroom, café, restaurant, watersports hire, boat charter, yacht club and brokerage. For those not wanting to sleep aboard, our eight 4 star luxury self-catering apartments guarantee the comforts of home next to the water.

Mylor Yacht Harbour is a centre of excellence for the restoration and care of yachts and motor boats, providing a full complement of services afloat and ashore.

Surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the marina is just moments away from fabulous sailing waters of the Carrick Roads.

The marina offers a full repair and refit service, with travel hoist for boat lifting, launching and the general movement of boats of up to 38 tonnes.
