Privilège Catamarans were launched back in the eighties by Philippe Jeantot (twice world champion in single-handed sailing and founder of the Vendee Globe) and René Bernard through the Jeantot Marine Shipyard in Les Sables d’Olonne.
In 1996, the shipyard was sold to a new owner (La Groupe SGGR) and was renamed Alliaura Marine.
Privilege Marine Shipyard, controlled by Gilles Wagner became the new owners from 2012 until Hanse Yachts bought the Privilege brand, moulds and shipyard in 2017. In 2022, Hanse announced that they would be selling their shareholding.
Hanse have launched 3 designs: the Signature 510, the Signature 580 and the Signature 650. They continue to build the Series 740 (the flagship) from Privilege Marine days.
Marc Lombard got involved with the brand back in 1987 and has been heavily involved with the designs since that time.
Privilege are famous for producing high quality cruising catamarans: the focus is on quality rather than quantity. One of the key design features over the years has been the large owner’s suite located into the forward nacelle. As well as creating more living space, this structure provides buoyancy in heavy seas and stiffness to the whole structure. These strong cats ae known for their stability and seaworthiness.
The build quality and finishing of a Privilege is a step above the competition, and this is reflected in their strong resale values.

The Privilège brand
- The Privilege brand
- Build quality
Once upon a time…
Philippe Jeantot (twice world champion in single-handed sailing and founder of the famous Vendee Globe round-the-world race), designed the original cruising catamaran for his family to live aboard during their travels: comfort, strength and security were the basic criteria.
In 1985, he founded Jeantot Marine and exhibited his first vessel in Paris, more for personal pride than to start a life in marine construction, however the many orders he received encouraged him to set out on this next great adventure! Philippe Jeantot brought all his round-the-world navigation experience to the Privilège brand, creating a superb design in terms of comfort, security and cruising pleasure.
The rest is history
In 1989, the shipyard was the leading builder of cruising catamarans, dominating the American market, and became a benchmark for the profession. Recognition came in the form of: Le Trophée International de la Qualité in 1992. The Privilège 45 and 42 were chosen as 'Boat of the Year' in the USA in 1995 and 1996.
In 1996, under the aegis of Alliaura, the brand grew and confirmed its position at the top of its class in large catamarans over 15m ; over 60 vessels ranging from 18-23m were delivered around the world, with the well-known Privilège 745 being the flagship of the fleet.
2012 saw a new chapter being written in the Privilège story, with passion, quality and experience as the watch-words. On the historic site at Les Sables d'Olonne, Privilège Marine gathered a highly qualified team, many with more than 20 years seniority... These men and women form a truly enthusiastic and committed team, led by Gilles Wagner.
In May 2017, Privilège Marine became part of the well known HanseYachts AG.
The latest development in June 2022 brings the Privilège name back under the guidance of Giles Wagner, who will lead this iconic brand into the future.

Privilege : A history of passion and excellence in the world of catamarans

- histoire des chantiers , history of the construction sites , Privilege
The origins of the Privilege shipyard: the foundation of a symbol of maritime excellence
The Privilege shipyard was created in 1985 by Philippe Jeantot, a renowned professional sailor and two-time world champion in solo racing. Moreover, Mr. Jeantot is also the founder of the famous Vendée Globe sailing race.
Indeed, the history of the shipyard begins with his idea to design a cruising catamaran for his family.
The development of the Privilege brand
Privilège became the European leader in the production of cruising catamarans in 1989. Even more, it conquers the American market.
As a result, the shipyard is honored with several awards, including the International Quality Trophy in 1992 and the election of the Privilege 45 and 42 as the boat of the year in the United States in 1995 and 1996.
In 1996, thanks to Alliaura Marine, the Privilège range consolidated its position at the top end of the market by developing a range of boats over 15 meters, the flagship of which is the Privilège 745. At that time, the brand had already delivered more than 60 units from 18 to 23 meters to owners around the world.
From Privilege to Privilege Marine: successful integration into the HanseYachts group
Privilège became Privilège Marine in 2012, after being acquired by the company Vendéenne de Capital Investissement (VCI), headed by Gilles Wagner. This name change marked a new era for the brand, with a new visual identity and a renewed commercial strategy focused on emotion, quality and experience. In 2017, Privilege Marine became part of the HanseYachts group , which also owns Sealine , Moody, Dehler , Feeling and Fjord.
Privilege catamarans: the reference in luxury and performance
Today, Privilege Marine offers a range of cruising catamarans from 50 to 80 feet:
- Signature 510
- Signature 580

- Privilege 585: This high-end cruising catamaran is 17.5 meters long and is also very popular on the second-hand market. It offers exceptional comfort and safety for long crossings.
- Privilege 465: This smaller model is 14 meters long and is ideal for cruising with family or friends. It is easy to maneuver and offers all the comfort necessary for long sailings.
- Privilege 435: this cruising catamaran is appreciated for its maneuverability and sturdiness. With its 13 meters length, it is perfect for short-handed sailing.
Of course, there are other Privilege boat models that are also highly sought after on the second-hand market.

The home of Privilège
The Privilège shipyard enjoys a compelling location in Les Sables d’Olonne, France. Not only is it an ideal facility for building and launching its premium line of catamarans but it is also the departure point of the famous Vendée Globe solo around the world race.
A NAUTICAL CONSCIOUSNESS
LES SABLES D’OLONNE - THE SANDS OF OLONNE
Les Sables d’Olonne has a nautical consciousness that dates back to our first connection with the sea. During the Roman Empire it was an important crossroads thanks to its harbor, «Le Havre d’Olonne».
Famous as the leading cod fishing harbor into the 17 th century, the «Belle Epoque» for Les Sables d’Olonne really began in the early 1800s. The rising popularity of «ocean bathing» brought sophistication in the form of resort hotels, casinos, cafes and beach front restaurants. The same ambiance that first attracted the aristocracy and artistic class is awake and flourishing today. Walk the beach front rambla and you will feel it for yourself.
Today, Les Sables d’Olonne is famous for being the home of the Vendée Globe single-handed, non-stop, yacht race around the world and Privilège has played an important role from the very beginning.
EVEREST OF THE SEA
THE VENDÉE GLOBE
Every 4 years , the world’s top solo sailors set out from Les Sables d’Olonne to compete in something so mad, so daring and so epic that only a handful of sailors have ever summoned the courage to attempt it – sail around the world alone. They sail night and day without stopping, without assistance and without seeing another single human.
Since the first race in 1989, 167 sailors have competed while only 88 have crossed the finish line. It is no wonder it is often called the “Everest of the sea”. The popularity of this event cannot be exaggerated; over 2 million people visited the Vendée Globe pavilion during the start of the last race, in 2016, and the sailors themselves are celebrities.
The race was founded by Phillipe Jeantot . Jeantot was a two-time winner of the BOC Challenge that was also a solo around the world race (now called the Velux 5 Oceans Race). The difference was the BOC was sailed in 4 stages and Jeantot imagined a non-stop race that would become what it is, in fact, today: the ultimate challenge for single-handed sailors.
Phillipe Jeantot competed and finished fourth in the first Vendée Globe. But more important to us was that he also founded something equally notable: Privilège .
WHERE YOUR YACHT IS BUILT MATTERS
Philipe Jeantot built his first Privilège in 1985 based on his remarkable offshore sailing achievements. This new catamaran was built for cruising with his family, and security and comfort mattered as much as sailing ability.
With the help of renowned naval architect, Marc Lombard, Privilège has steered a very different course from most other French builders who have come to dominate the growing catamaran segment. Privilège also predicted the shrinking popularity of premium monohulls in favor of catamarans and has succeeded in establishing a bespoke series of yachts that meet the highest possible expectation.
Intelligent design and outstanding craftsmanship are a given, but what makes Privilège the single best sailing catamaran today has much to do with where it is built. Our Port Olona facilities share land and sea with many of the world’s most accomplished sailors. Everything that matters in the world of sailing is happening here and has a direct influence on the yachts we launch.
Welcome to Port Olona in Les Sables d’Olonne: the home of the Vendée Globe , the home of Privilège .

The Privilege brand dates back to the 1980’s when world famous sailing champion, Philippe Jeantot established his legacy in the cruising catamarans industry. A few decades later, a new chapter began with Privilege Marine .
Combining passion, quality, and experience, Privilege is reliable for circumnavigation and comfort at the dock as well as at sea. Privilege’s experienced team of men and women are committed to providing top of the line, customized catamarans.
In an interview with Denison Yacht Sales , Privilege discusses the company’s history and achievements, while providing information about its latest launches and partnerships.
The Privilege brand dates back to 1985 when Philippe Jeantot founded Jeantot Marine. Is Jeantot still involved with the brand?
Philippe Jeantot, a well-known circumnavigating sailor and creator of the famous around-the-world regatta, Vendée Globe, is no longer involved with the brand, but he still enjoys sailing and living onboard a Privilege yacht.
Who currently owns Privilege? Has the brand changed hands over the years?
Privilege is owned by three shareholders including Gilles Wagner, who is at the shipyard permanently. The brand has changed ownership over the years. It was initiated by Philippe Jeantot in 1985 with Jeantot Marine Shipyard in Les Sables d’Olonne. In 1996, the shipyard was sold to a new owner and it became Alliaura Marine, still keeping the Privilege brand. The new company, Privilege Marine Shipyard has owned the Privilege brand since 2012.
When was Privilege Marine established, and by whom?
Privilege Marine was established on July 5, 2012 by Gilles Wagner.
Where is the Privilege shipyard and headquarters located? Has it always been there?
The shipyard and headquarters are located in Les Sables d’Olonne (French Atlantic Coast). In 2009, the construction of Privilege yachts moved to Lanester, close to Lorient (French Atlantic Coast) in order to accommodate building larger yachts, such as the 100’ Privilege 1000. When Gilles Wagner bought the Privilege brand with the molds, he didn’t buy the mold of the Privilege 1000.
When did naval architect, Marc Lombard begin designing Privilege Catamarans?
Marc Lombard began designing Privilege Catamarans in 1987.
How long has Franck Darnet been the interior designer for Privilege?
Carefully chosen among dozens of others, Franck Darnet has been the interior designer for Privilege since 2012.
What are the distinguishing characteristics of the Privilege brand?
Central Pod : The central pod’s exclusive identity comes with many advantages including: strong mechanical resistance as it reinforces the entire longitudinal structure of the catamaran, optimized comfort with more indoor living space, and adaptability for the anchor locker and windlass support. The central pod also provides a secure area in bad weather and helps to keep the bows over the water.
Reliability and Quality : Privilege has always been synonymous with reliability in all weather conditions. With her design and displacement’s calculations allowing her to play with the fastest, Privilege remains a sensational voyager. Interiors are made using real and natural accents of wood and refined fabrics.
Customization : By definition, luxury requires pleasure, satisfaction, and ease. Each Privilege yacht is customized to outfit the needs of the owner, while exceeding their expectations
Limited Production : Building a limited number of yachts leads to a strong resale value.
Remarkable Standard Inventory : Every detail has been meticulously calculated so that Privilege remains incomparable with all components: deck fittings, sails, electronics, systems, finishes, and comfort. From preparation to delivery, a Privilege stands far above other vessels in the same class .
When did Privilege experience its greatest period of growth? When did the brand go global?
Privilege has experienced two significant periods of growth, starting in 2006 when the shipyard launched the 74’ Privilege 745 and the 61’ Privilege 615. This led to an explosion in the big catamarans market.
Privilege is currently undergoing its second period of growth. Since becoming Privilege Marine in 2012, the brand has established a great reputation with its new range: 50’ Privilege Series 5 , 64’ Privilege Series 6 , and 75’ Privilege Series 7 (evolution of the Privilege 745).
The Privilege brand went global very quickly after its creation by Philippe Jeantot. His experience from sailing around the world inspired the design of the first cruising catamaran: The Privilege.
When did Privilege make its debut in the United States?
Privilege made its debut in the U.S. when Lady Privilege was displayed at the Miami Boat Show in 1989. Americans discovered a new way of sailing. It was a great success, and close to 100 Privilege yachts have been sold to the U.S., including the 51’ Privilege Stars And Stripes to the well-known America's Cup winner, Dennis Conner .
Briefly explain the relationship between Privilege and Denison Yacht Sales.
Denison was searching for a brand of cruising catamarans with refinement, quality, and comfort that would satisfy the U.S. market. Privilege was looking for a very exclusive partner, where trust and energy would lay the groundwork for promoting the range at the best level.
The relationship has been great since day one, and Privilege Marine is very proud to work alongside Denison Yacht Sales in the United States. While 2014 marked the beginning of this new partnership, it has already proven to be a successful match.
Privilege has found a niche as a custom builder in an industry of mostly mass-produced building. What is Privilege’s greatest benefit of being a custom builder?
The best part about being a custom builder is having a close relationship with our customers while designing their boats and adapting their unique styles, and most importantly, seeing their satisfaction .
How much customization will Privilege accommodate on an order?
Almost anything is possible with customization when it comes to changing the layout, the material, and the equipment. There are only two restrictions: the structure, as we produce serial so we have molds and structural bulkheads that we cannot changes, and the weight, which naval architect, Marc Lombard handles.
How can a prospective customer test a Privilege yacht before buying one?
There are two ways to test a Privilege yacht: you can rent one or test-drive one at the shipyard before or after the delivery if the owner of the boat agrees. Most of our buyers order without testing because they trust the final result and know they are in good hands.
How many catamarans has Privilege built since the brand was founded? How many per year?
Privilege has built around 700 catamarans since the brand was founded. On average, we build around 20 per year. At the beginning, production was mainly focused on 40’ to 50’ yachts.
How long does it take to build one catamaran?
The length of time to build a catamaran depends on the model. Today, it takes around six months to build a Privilege Series 5 and a year to build a Privilege Series 7.
Does Privilege only build sailing catamarans?
Privilege Marine also builds high-class sailing monohulls in lifting keel version and launched two new brands: FURIO 6 (64’ motoryacht catamaran with a strong design and strong performance – max speed 30kts) and EUPHORIA 5 (50’ power catamaran based on the design of the Privilege Series 5 with changes on the hull, removing the mast for having a flybridge – max speed 15kts).
Motor catamarans will be the future for a lot of powerboat owners, who are dreaming about stability, anchor, and space as well as for sailors who want to relax.
In terms of future growth and goals, where does Privilege envision itself in the next 10 years?
Privilege Marine recently announced at the 2015 Cannes Yachting Festival plans for a complete sailing catamaran range from 50’ to 100’ through a partnership with JFA Yachts (French shipyard based in Concarneau-France). JFA Yachts is famous for the construction of megayachts like Bystander and one of the largest multihulls delivered on the market today, Mousetrap 110. They are also well-known for their criteria in term of quality, exclusivity, and capacity of customization.
Today, we offer five models in the Privilege range: 50’ Privilege Series 5, 64’ Privilege Series 6, 75’ Privilege Series 7, 85’ Privilege Series 8, and 100’ Privilege Series 10, which will be built by JFA Yachts.
This partnership is important for Privilege as the market is shifting to larger yachts, and we will be able to satisfy this clientele. We will continue to develop the production of customized Privilege yachts, and we believe in the motoryacht catamaran market.

all about Privilege Catamaran
History of privilege catamaran, history of shipyard.
In 1989, the shipyard was the European leader in the manufacture of cruising catamarans. It dominated the American market and became a reference in the profession. The shipyard won several awards: The International Quality Trophy (1992), the Boat of the Year in the United States (1995, 1996) with the Privilege 45 and 42.
Alain Rabineau took over the activities and the premises of Jeantôt Marine in 1996. Passionate sailor and owner of a Privilège 48, he develops the company under the name of Alliaura Marine. He confirms his position at the top of the range and the segment of the large units of more than 15 meters. With its experience in the construction of motor catamarans, the French manufacturer launched a new range in 1998, the Transcat.
In 2012, Alliaura Marine changed its name to Privilege Marine. The company has surrounded itself with a highly qualified team, most of whom have over 20 years of service.
The shipyard is known for its high-end quality, the robustness of manufacture, and the performance of its boats. Alliaura Marine has expanded its niche market by taking over the Kirié shipyard in 2000, manufacturer of Feeling sailboats. Some of Alliaura Marine's Feeling sailboats are available for charter.
Alliaura Marine has extended the Privilege multi hull series. It has launched new models such as the Alliaura Marine Privilege 465, which later became the Privilege 495.
Among other gems, Alliaura Marine created the Privilege 585, well known in the charter industry. Designed in 2006 for a professional activity, it has all the expected comfort. The Privilege 615 cruising catamaran was also created in 2006.
Since May 2017, Privilege Marine has been part of the world-renowned HanseYachts group.
How it started?
Privilege Catamaran is a French shipyard founded in 1996. Sailing enthusiasts and ocean lovers participated in its creation.
From the beginning, it has benefited from the reputation of the Privilege catamarans created by Philippe Jeantot. The latter is a double world champion in solo racing and the founder of the Vendée Globe. To accommodate his small family during his stopovers, he designed a cruising catamaran. Comfort, robustness, and safety were essential criteria.
In 1985, he created Jeantot Marine and exhibited his very first unit in Paris. It was more out of pride than out of a desire to get into the shipbuilding business. Several orders encouraged him to embark on this great adventure! Philippe Jeantot puts all his experience of sailing around the world to work in the design of the Privilèges series. Comfort, safety, and the pleasure of sailing are at the center of his concerns. The French company was also a pioneer in the field of motor catamarans and designed the Euphoria series.
Alliaura Marine now has nearly 3,000 units, all ranges included, sailing on all the seas of the world.
The Privilege’s flagship
The flagship is the Privilege 745, a refined, powerful, and bright sailboat. It is one of the most luxurious catamarans ever built in the world. Privilege 745 offers luxurious accommodation, a wide range of entertainment facilities, and toys.
In 2007, Alliaura Marine created Privilege 745's little brothers, Privilege 615 and Privilege 515.
Where are the current models built?
The shipyard is located in Sables d’Olonne & Lanester.
Available material
In 2006, the shipyard introduced carbon fiber construction to expand the product line. So, the Tresco Line was conceived in September 2006. These open motorboats are intended to be tenders for mega yachts or central units known as luxury dayboats.

Do you think you’ve seen everything? What about a Jacuzzi on the flybridge or a Turkish bath in a boat? The catamarans from Privilège Marine are designed to amaze and it’s not just about size.
Ironically, Privilège Marine became famous even before its appearance. In 1985 he founded the Jeantot Marine yard and presented his first catamaran at the Paris Boat Show . Legend has it that this was done rather to satisfy his ego and at the time Philip had not thought about linking his life to the construction of catamarans. But orders started to arrive and the shipyard started to work. Jeanto invited the famous naval architect Mark Lombard to design his boats, with whom he collaborated in a sporting career. The duo was a success – today, 30 years later, Lombard is still designing unique catamarans under the Privilège brand.
The success of Privilège Marine came quickly enough. Already in 1992 the shipyard was awarded the Le Trophée International de la Qualité, while Privilege 45 and 42 won the US Yacht of the Year title in 1995 and 1996.In 1996 the shipyard of the famous Frenchman became the base for the newly created holding company Alliaura Magnet, which in addition to Privilège Marine includes other brands of yachts and motor catamarans. The marketing strategy of the holding has determined the place of Privilège Marine in the elite segment of the market, respectively, the line of models began to grow. That’s when the famous later model Privilège 745 appeared. But that was not the limit. In the early 2000s, the experimental 30-meter hull of the Privilège 1000 was created at the shipyard. But the ambitious project was hindered by the corporate turmoil of the parent company.
In 2012, Alliaura Marina ceased to exist and Privilège Marine, together with the Feelings brand of single hull yachts, was bought by entrepreneur Gilles Wagner . He breathed new life into the shipyard’s production facilities in France by adding a range of Furio motor catamarans to the shipyard’s portfolio.
In early 2017, Privilège Marine became part of the Aurelius holding, known as the parent company of HanseYachts. The board of directors of the new parent company left the management and strategy of Privilège Marine unchanged.
Model range
Now the elite sailing catamarans Privilège are represented by a line of 17 to 25 meters. The range is divided into the Signature series (510 and 580) and the luxurious Privilège Serie 6 and Privilège Serie 7. In addition, the yard’s briefcase includes a 15m motor catamaran Euphorie 5. Despite the change of ownership, the naval architect Marc Lombard continues to work on the projects and the interior design is created by Franck Darnet Design. The flagship model Privilège Serie 7, which is the evolution of the successful Privilege 745, has the largest production catamaran on the market with an 8m wide owner’s cabin!
Sailing catamarans Privilège have always stood out for their quality of construction, the use of expensive materials in the finish and the best suppliers for the armament of catamarans. Following the requirements of the market, the shipyard offers the customer ample opportunity to customize the interior layout and decoration of his future boat. Moreover, it is not only a question of choosing the color of wooden panels in the salon, but also really fantastic opportunities, such as the installation of sauna and spa, Jacuzzi on the flybridge or wine cellar.
Production .
The Privilège Marine shipyard, founded in Le Sables d’Olonne , was moved to Lanester (Brittany ) after it became part of the Alliaura Marina. In 2012, however, she returned to her original location in Le Sables d’Olonne, where she has 12 km² of floor space. The HanseYachts simply did not have so much space in Germany. But the parent company is working to link production in France with processes at its shipyards in order to reduce costs. Some components for catamarans are now produced at the HanseYachts shipyard in Greifswald. Privilège Marine is the only catamaran builder in the extensive Aurelius family of brands behind HanseYachts. The shipyard employs over 100 people. Since its inception, Privilege has built over 1000 hulls.

Privilege Catamarans
Privilege Marine was founded by Rene Bernard, and the world-famous offshore sailboat racer, Phillippe Jeantot. Jeantot was considered at the time one of the best single-handed offshore sailors, and ultimately went on to start the Vendee Globe Round the World Race. The original concept for Privilege Marine was to build a blue water cruising catamaran for a family circumnavigation.
The company opened up the Jeantot Ship Yards in the heart of Les Sables d’Olonne on the infamous Bay of Biscayne. The first catamaran to come out of the shipyard was the Privilege 39, which is now considered one of the most iconic catamarans to come out of the 1980’s.
In the late 1980’s, Privilege began a 30+ year relationship with designer Marc Lombard, who to this day still designs catamarans for Privilege Marine. Some of his most famous designs include the Privilege 585 catamaran, made popular on youtube by a sailing family, and the Privilege 615, one of the first catamarans to be built with a fly bridge.
To own a Privilege Catamaran is like owning a classic Rolls Royce. They are elegant and rugged, cutting-edge designs and timeless. Each Privilege catamaran is a semi-custom build and as a result, no two Privilege catamarans are the same.
