Spent the afternoon with family on the water. Nice stop for a birthday lunch. Great service. Beautiful views of the Yacht Club and the marina. The red snapper, fish and chips and chicken quesadillas are delicious. If you are lucky enough to know a member, they also have a delicious Sunday brunch.

I only came here for our work Christmas party, so I don't know that I can really rate the whole place, as we were in a ballroom out by the tennis courts. The parts I did see were great, though, and everyone was super friendly! We were in one of the ballrooms, and when you walk in there was a foyer, and bathrooms around the corner, then you walk into the ballroom area with the DJ, the food, and the bar, plus all the tables. Everything was really nice and set up so pretty! I started drinking too early and got no photos...well, none that I can share on Yelp! The food was average; there were green beans, breaded chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, steak medallions and fried shrimp. It was good, but nothing extraordinary. They had desserts but nothing that tempted me too much. The bartender was great though, and was very generous with the drinks! Everything was decorated really prettily, and there were 3 or 4 tables set up for gambling, but I was on the little dance floor...I'm not much of a gambler. Well, I'm not much of a dancer either, but I do enjoy that more! It was a good time, and I am lucky enough to be employed by a small family company that really appreciates their employees. This place is nice, and if you'e invited to a corporate event here, or invited by members, go ahead and go, as it's a nice place with decent food!

I attended a charity cocktail function there. Our very limited bar set up was not ready. We went to the open lounge and were evicted in no uncertain terms by one of the staff. We received a lot of attention from others at tables around us. We did not receive advice on our event tickets that there would be off limit areas in the building or by any staff member greeting us as we arrived. Remember, we didn't walk in randomly, we were guests of a function and a member is part of this particular charitable event. I organize a few social opportunities and would never consider booking this venue on the chance that one of my guests would be embarrassed in that way.

While the catfish was good and the server was professional, after almost swallowing a 1/4" piece of sharp triangle-shaped bone, I requested to speak with a manager. I was refused the opportunity to speak to a manager, due to a special event he was attending. I was told by the executive chef that since bone is a naturally occurring part of the fish, that there was nothing they should be expected to do about it. I disagree. Had I not removed the bone from my mouth, I could have been injured. A simple discount and apology would be nice, because negligence is never okay, even if you're not a member.

One of my mom's friends hosted a wedding shower for me here. It was so great! It was great for the hostess too. She was able to enjoy the shower and didn't have to clean her house to host the shower, and someone else made all the food! The servers were very attentive. We had a menu and were able to order what we wanted. I had the club sandwich and it was great. We also all had a chocolate brownie a la mode with fudge and caramel sauce. Ohhhhh it was so good! Then we went to go look at my hostess's boat. They have such a nice place to keep your boat. Everyone knows each other here. I have also been to a wedding here. It was a great event! We had our food served to us. They had a large dance floor so everyone could get on it. We had a great time! Also there is plenty of parking for your guests. It is a little hard to find but I think the yacht club likes it that way, so you can only get there if you know where it is, like a secret club.

Very nice yacht club! They have great security and a delicious grill and bar! Seriously, I was amazed with all of our food! Everything was Cooke to perfection and tasted wonderful! The chef here knows what they are doing! The staff is exceptionally nice and everyone seems to know each other. If you have a boat I highly suggest renting out a slip. If not, try to meet someone that does!

I had my wedding reception here in June of 2011 and it was absolute perfection. I was surprised to find that this place was within my budget considering how nice it is and that you don't need to be a member to have a wedding there. If you think that food is a very important factor in your wedding this is definitely the place. I still have compliments from the food at my wedding to this day! The chicken piccata and the salmon were amazing! I urge anyone who is having a wedding of about 130-160 guests to definitely check this place out!

This year J/Fest Southwest is using Yacht Scoring to manage registration , online purchases, crew waivers and scoring. A few things you need to know. You will establish an email address (username) and password and all your data will be kept in the Yacht Scoring database so you only need to enter once for all future regattas in their system. The layout is quite different and there are many fields, but not too many more than before. The skipper is responsible for entering boat info, handicap rating, crew names, and emails. It is a little more work the first time you register, but it will pay off at the event as your registration will be complete and provide you with more time to socialize!

New Lakewood Ranch golf course owner will transition public course to private operation

where is lakewood yacht club

A Virginia-based company now controls four golf courses in Lakewood Ranch , including a public course which will shift to operating as a private club starting next week.

Heritage Golf Group announced the acquisition of the three private Lakewood Ranch courses — Cypress Links, Kings Dunes and Royal Lakes — that form Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club in a news release, but only sent emails to the annual passholders at the public course, Legacy Golf Club, offering refunds for members who had annual passes.

"Effective immediately, we have made the decision to reposition Legacy Golf Club to a fully private club," the email provided to the Herald-Tribune said. "With this in mind, we plan on closing the club on Monday, March 18, to begin a comprehensive renovation to the Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course."

The transition of Legacy Golf Club to a country club model sparked some concerns among longtime residents of one of the fastest selling master-planned communities in the country being over Lakewood Ranch without a public golf course.

Lakewood Ranch now has more than 66,000 residents living in the 33,000-acre development.

Heritage said in the email to Legacy passholders the "multi-million project will include rebuilding greens, tee boxes, fairways, bunkers and cart paths.

"We expect this restoration to be completed and the course to reopen in the fourth quarter of this year."

Heritage also offered refunds to the annual members impacted by the course becoming private.

A representative of Heritage Golf Group was not available to comment by publication time.

“Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club is the crown jewel of the Lakewood Ranch community, and we are proud to become its new steward," Mark Burnett, Heritage Golf Group CEO, said in a news release. "We are honored that SMR selected Heritage Golf Group to continue building on its noteworthy tradition and impeccable nationwide reputation as the premier country club and lifestyle community. The continued growth of our network of clubs will only further enhance the member and guest experience as well as offer additional career growth for our employees."

Losing friends at Lakewood Ranch?

Kenneth Serroka retired to Lakewood Ranch in 2001, purchasing a home on the Legacy golf course overlooking the 15th hole for $260,000, a fraction of what properties now go for in the area.

Serroka said that not everyone in Lakewood Ranch has the means to join the country club as initiation fees are tens of thousands of dollars, in addition to monthly dues.

Now, he won't be able to golf on the course he's used for more than two decades and will see out his windows every morning, unless he joins the country club, which currently has a long wait list.

The 82-year-old has made friends that he would see on the course on a nearly daily basis in spontaneous encounters.

Previous coverage: Lakewood Ranch, Wellen Park, Babcock Ranch rank in Top 10 of master-planned US communities

More: Lakewood Ranch will expand in 2024 and beyond. Here's what to expect.

Serroka said he's worried about Lakewood Ranch becoming a community of haves and have nots as property values soar in the area. He said many people bought into Lakewood Ranch before home values increased.

Also, the development has been popular for people looking for a second home. He said few people maintaining two residences can afford the exorbitant cost it takes to join a country club.

"I feel like I'm losing the friends I made over the past 20 years," he said. "I loved it there."

Sport of golf rebounds

Steve Ekovich, executive managing director and partner at Leisure Investment Properties Group, would not confirm information on the Legacy Golf Club. However, he did facilitate the transaction involving the private golf courses.

A purchase price for the three courses has not been disclosed and a deed has not yet been recorded for any of the sales as of Thursday afternoon.

However, Ekovich said that interest in the three private courses was high, resulting in half-dozen offers to purchase the course.

Ekovich said there are plans to build another course somewhere in Lakewood Ranch given the demand for golf in the community.

"The interest we had was absolutely phenomenal," he said.

The veteran commercial broker remembers when about 10 years ago magazine and newspaper articles proclaimed the decline in popularity of golf across the United States. Several accounts went as far as to say that golf was dead with new residential communities focusing on outdoor trails and healthy living as selling points.

However, Ekovich said, the COVID-19 pandemic helped golf rebound in popularity given the sport lends itself to open-air, socially distanced activity. He said from 2008 to about 2013 golf course values dropped by half.

"It's just the opposite now," he said. "Golf is as healthy as its ever been."

New Cape Coral Yacht Club designs: Most on council like a coastal, Key West vibe

where is lakewood yacht club

Given three different design options for the new Yacht Club Community Center , most of the Cape Coral City Council is leaning toward a coastal, Key West-flavor architecture.

At a committee of the whole meeting on Wednesday, the city sought direction from the council on a design direction for the outside of the community building.

"It's a concept, just like we do with anything else, and as we are designing, things may come up that we want to shift and be nimble (on)," said Cape Coral City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn.

James Pankonin with Kimley Horn, a consulting firm focusing on public and private developments, presented the information about the look of the community building.

Cape Coral's Yacht Club Community Park, which includes a yacht basin, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a ballroom, and a beach, has been a popular attraction and staple for the city since the 1960s but is set to undergo major renovations after Hurricane Ian delayed the original plans .

The current plans include a new two-story community center to replace the ballroom, removing the tennis courts, rearranging the area to accommodate a four-story parking garage, a new restaurant, and a new resort-style pool.

The city is also preparing for the demolition of the Yacht Club and its facilities in April as it awaits permits.

No estimates could be provided for the price of the new building.

"It will really come into how much of certain materials are needed and construction methods," Ilczyszyn said.

The city will have that information once they have 30% of the construction design.

Two public meetings for the designs are planned for April 2 and May 7.

After getting public input, the city will vote to amend its contract with Kimley Horn to approve all these changes.

The plan is to have these changes approved or introduced before the summer hiatus.

New Designs for the Yacht Club building

John Bryant with Sweet Sparkman Architecture and Interiors, a Sarasota-based design firm, said the goal with the new designs was to maintain the experience of the original Yacht Club.

The majority of the council preferred option one.

Design one:

Bryant described the first option as "coastal vernacular" and similar to the park buildings at Lake Kennedy and Yellow Fever Creek.

"So it's sort of informed by the current architectural work in 2024," Bryant said. "Kinda Key West."

Councilmember Dan Sheppard and Mayor John Gunter preferred option one.

Gunter said the design was the most pleasing for him.

Councilmember Keith Long liked option one and said he liked the Key West aesthetic.

Councilmember Tom Hayden liked option one.

Design two:

Option two is more informed by the current Yacht Club and would have a stone base and mid-century feel to it, according to Bryant.

"There's certainly opportunity to kind of further develop this option to have even more of the existing Yacht Club feel, but a different vibe, feel than option one," Bryant said.

He also said option two might be more expressive the closer they try to recreate the aesthetic of the old ballroom building.

Councilmember Jessica Cosden liked design two as it incorporated design elements of the old building though she lamented how similar it looked to the first design.

"I wish we could have done more, but I know it's hard with a two-story building, to make it look the same as a very unique one-story building.

Councilmember Bill Steinke said two would be his choice as well, but was wary of additional maintenance of natural wood products used in the design.

"As long as we can bring that aesthetic and keep the maintenance down, number two would be my choice," Steinke said.

Councilmember Robert Welsh said he could go either way, but he liked the look of two.

Design three:

This would be more contemporary and modern.

"Even with a more contemporary language, you can still have warmth, incorporating some wood elements and stone elements," Bryant said.

None of the council members expressed any favorability for the third design.

Inside the new community center

The Community Center will have an additional 10,000 square feet for a total of 47,000 square feet, a history room to remember the first ballroom building on the first floor, and more rooms for civic and community use on the first floor.

Additionally, the new ballroom has shifted slightly as the balcony area on the second floor has been expanded to wrap around the top of the building.
