Fire crew extinguish yacht fire in Fort Lauderdale; no injuries reported
FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. (WSVN) - Fire crews were able to get the upper hand on a yacht fire that erupted in Fort Lauderdale.
Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to the 1500 block of Fourth Street on Monday afternoon.
Officials said the fire broke out on the 60-foot yacht just as it was docked in a river behind a home near Southwest 18th Avenue and 4th Court. The yacht was left charred with glass windows blown out from the intense heat. No one was one board at the time of the fire.
An investigation into the cause of the flames is underway.

28m Cheoy Lee motor yacht demolished following Fort Lauderdale fire
The 28-metre Cheoy Lee superyacht Self Made has now been demolished. The yacht suffered extensive damage following a fire at Yacht Haven Marina in Fort Lauderdale on 12 October 2023.
"Following the incident, Self Made was towed up the New River to our Fort Lauderdale facility," explained Ryan Swart of Yacht Management South Florida. "Boats always tend to sit for a while after they are delivered to us, as the insurance companies must conduct their fire investigations."

He continued: "The vessel was destroyed via an excavator and broken down into scraps, which were then hauled away."
The initial incident was reported at 10.30pm and fire crews were met with "heavy fire", according to a statement by the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue service.
The flames were brought under control quickly and extinguished within two hours of emergency services' arrival on the scene. No injuries were reported.
