Federico Fiorentino teams up with Van Oossanen for 50m Belafonte concept

Milan-based designer Federico Fiorentino has teamed up with Van Oossanen Naval Architects to further develop superyacht concept The Belafonte.

Renderings of the 50 metre aluminium yacht concept were first released in November 2014, when Fiorentino detailed she would be capable of 24 knots.

Thanks to a preliminary study by Van Oossanen, Fiorentino has revealed that the fast displacement hull form could in fact nudge the superyacht up to 30 knots and offer significant fuel savings. At lower speeds The Belafonte could be turned into a transatlantic yacht at 13 knots and push beyond the transpacific barrier at 9 knots.

At the time of release last year, Fiorentino called the 50 metre boat a “modern classic” and says he tried to blend classic and contemporary design, creating an ideal fusion of elegance, refinement and prestige.

The superyacht certainly has strong external lines, its racy profile falling back from an eye-catching stem and snub bow, but amid the modern touches there remains traditional elements, such as mahogany cap rails and polished steel particulars.

The Belafonte will accommodate 10 guests in five cabins. A full beam VIP suite, two twins and one double are located on the lower deck, while the owner’s full beam suite is located forward on the main deck. The owner’s suite covers an impressive 84 square meters and is one of the biggest in its class, says Fiorentino. It features a separate studio with a folding balcony, two walk-in closets and two linked bathrooms.

The main deck of the boat features a formal saloon and dining area, while the semi-enclosed upper deck is given over to informal social areas with a spectacular sky lounge. Here, an alfresco dining table can accommodate all the guests, opposite a shaded bar.

Fiorentino has ensured The Belafonte boasts plenty of open deck space and has included a large pool on the main deck and a Jacuzzi on the upper deck, both surrounded by big sunbathing areas. For more privacy there is a lounge and sunbathing area at the front of the upper deck.

The Boat From ‘The Life Aquatic,' is Now For Sale... as a Luxury Yacht

For a mere $350,000 and some maritime permits, you took can life the life aquatic and join Team Zissou.

The large and well-worn vessel that Wes Anderson used for his 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou has been put up for sale , with a list price of $350,000. It’s just the latest chapter in the rich and surprisingly varied life of this vessel, which first set sail in 1958 as a British minesweeper called the HMS Packington. Soon afterward, it was bought by the South African Navy, and renamed the SAS Walvisbaai.

After more than 40 years, the ship was purchased for The Life Aquatic , which starred Bill Murray as a self-absorbed, down-on-his-luck oceanographer — like a lesser Jacques Cousteau. The boat served that film with distinction, even if the most famed shot of the Belafonte — the cross-section tour embedded below — was actually built on an interior set.

After the film wrapped, the real boat was sold to a millionaire in Dubai, who sailed it from Italy to the Middle East, and spent years refurbishing it into a yacht. Now, it’s been completely transformed, from a rusty old tanker to a plush sea palace, which you can explore here .

The price tag on the boat isn’t cheap, but then again, it’s just more than a tenth of the cost of the giant townhouse in Harlem where Anderson shot much of The Royal Tenenbaums ; that property most recently sold for $3.38 million.

The new Federico Fiorentino yacht concept “The Belafonte ” is a 50 meter full aluminum yacht with a gross tonnage under 500 GRT. The yacht is conceived to adopt a fast displacement hull with a top speed of 18/24 knots depending on engine configuration.

Ten guests can be accommodated in five cabin, a full beam VIP suite alongside two twins and one double are located on the lower deck, while the owner’s full beam suite is located forward on the main deck. The owner suite, with its 84 square meters, is one of the biggest in its category and features a separate studio with a folding balcony, two walk-in closets and two communicating bathrooms.

The main deck of The Belafonte offers a spacious and formal saloon and dining area while the semi enclosed upper deck is dedicated to more informal social areas with a spectacular sky lounge. Here, an alfresco dining table can accommodate all the yacht guests while on the other side we find a spacious shaded bar.

The Belafonte is characterized by a large amount of open deck space with a large pool on the main deck and a Jacuzzi on the upper deck, both surrounded by big sunbathing areas. For more privacy we also find a very reserved lounge and sunbathing area located in the front of the upper deck.

But the most particular feature of this yacht is its remarkable exterior design. Striking lines and a unique stem design confer to The Belafonte a spontaneous sense of luxury.

The style of Federico Fiorentino is characterized by a distinctive use of traditional elements such as mahogany cap rails and polished steel particulars, mixed with modern lines concept, conveying past and present into modern yachts with a strong character. The outstanding bow shield featured on The Belafonte is a clear example of such an approach.

The Beneteau Oceanis 381 was designed by listening to the needs of sailors and experienced yachtsmen around the world. In building this boat, Beneteau wanted a boat which perfectly materializes Beneteau’s philosophy on cruising – utilizing technically advanced research and production techniques in such a way as to result in a performance cruiser with a very spacious and comfortable interior. Moreover, the Oceanis 381 has been specifically designed for warmer climates with an impressive number of deck hatches and opening ports. The salon/galley is spacious and well-equipped and the aft cabin has a large berth.

Sailing wise, the efficient hull shape coupled to the efficient sailing rig, where this boat has a simple to use roller furling genoa and an efficient mainsail ensure that this boat is a pleasure to helm. She moves with the lightest of breeze yet remains absolutely steady and comfortable in strong wind. To satisfy the more adventurous performance oriented buyer.

Everything on deck, from the door in the transom to the stemhead fitting, has been studied in the greatest detail to make the Oceanis 381 a pleasing and efficient yacht: large cockpit under the shade of a big bimini with steering wheel console, table with flaps and enormous lockers, sunbathing area. Belafonte research vessel.

Belafonte, formerly a British minesweeper, had been used in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou movie in 2004 directed by Wes Anderson. Now you can get the boat from Life Aquatic for your collection.

This Belafonte model ship has been handmade with highest details for collectors. Our master craftsmen handcrafted this nicely detailed model from scratch using historical photographs, drawings, and original plan. In addition, we selected the finest woods and material to build this model. Also, we use plank-on-frame construction method which is similar to the building of the actual ship.

The model has many details such as: All windows, doors, and portholes are cut out precisely thanks to hand-built hollow superstructure and hull; Lighting feature inside the bulbous bow, detail helicopter and submarine; metal fittings, brass railing…

Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. She is sitting on a solid wood stand and ready to display. It’ll make a perfect gift for home or office decorator, boat enthusiast, or passionate collector.

The windy Russian autumn weather might be a little bit tricky for sailing, but it doesn’t stop brave yachtsmen from all over the world from flocking to Russian capital in the beginning of September when the Moscow Yacht Show commences. The main Russian Yacht exhibition gathers professional and amateur yacht lovers together under the wing of The Royal Yacht Club.

This year it took place for a fourth time already. The exhibition is considered the principal event on the sporting and social calendar. The Moscow Yacht Show 2010 united in one area three of the largest Russian yachts distributors: Ultramarine, Nordmarine and Premium Yachts.

A wide range of yachts were on display for a week. An exhibition showcased yachts both from Russian manufacturers and world famous brands: Azimut, Princess, Ferretti, Pershing, Riviera, Doral, Linssen, etc.

It was a real feast for seafarers as visitors of the show had a unique chance not only to take a look at the newest superyachts before they hit the market, but also to evaluate their driving advantages during the test drive. The show provided an excellent opportunity for yacht enthusiasts to choose and buy a new boat for the next season.

The event started with the grandiose gala evening. It included grand dinner, the concert and professional awards ceremony for achievements in Russian yachting industry. The guests also enjoyed the annual regatta.

Special guest Paolo Vitelli, Azimut Benetti Group president, opened the evening.

Next year organizers assured guests they would bring more yachts, the scale of which will even make oligarch Roman Abramovich envious. Sounds very promising indeed.

First refuelling for Russia’s Akademik Lomonosov floating NPP

The FNPP includes two KLT-40S reactor units. In such reactors, nuclear fuel is not replaced in the same way as in standard NPPs – partial replacement of fuel once every 12-18 months. Instead, once every few years the entire reactor core is replaced with and a full load of fresh fuel.

The KLT-40S reactor cores have a number of advantages compared with standard NPPs. For the first time, a cassette core was used, which made it possible to increase the fuel cycle to 3-3.5 years before refuelling, and also reduce by one and a half times the fuel component in the cost of the electricity produced. The operating experience of the FNPP provided the basis for the design of the new series of nuclear icebreaker reactors (series 22220). Currently, three such icebreakers have been launched.

The Akademik Lomonosov was connected to the power grid in December 2019, and put into commercial operation in May 2020.

Electricity generation from the FNPP at the end of 2023 amounted to 194 GWh. The population of Pevek is just over 4,000 people. However, the plant can potentially provide electricity to a city with a population of up to 100,000. The FNPP solved two problems. Firstly, it replaced the retiring capacities of the Bilibino Nuclear Power Plant, which has been operating since 1974, as well as the Chaunskaya Thermal Power Plant, which is more than 70 years old. It also supplies power to the main mining enterprises located in western Chukotka. In September, a 490 km 110 kilovolt power transmission line was put into operation connecting Pevek and Bilibino.

The italian yacht designer federico fiorentino from milan presents a "the belafonte" - a 50m "modern classic" concept..

The Belafonte concept provides a full aluminum motor yacht with a gross tonnage of under 500 GT. The yacht can reach a top speed of 18 – 24 knots depending on engine configuration.

Ten guests can be accommodated in five cabins, a full beam VIP suite alongside two twins and one double are located on the lower deck, while the owner’s full-beam suite is located forward on the main deck. The owner suite, with its 84 square meters, is one of the biggest in its category and features a separate studio with a folding balcony, two walk-in closets, and two communicating bathrooms.

The main deck of The Belafonte offers a spacious and formal saloon and dining area while the semi-enclosed upper deck is dedicated to more informal social areas with a spectacular sky lounge. Here, an alfresco dining table can accommodate all the yacht guests while on the other side we find a spacious shaded bar.

The Belafonte is characterized by a large amount of open deck space with a large pool on the main deck and a Jacuzzi on the upper deck, both surrounded by big sunbathing areas. For more privacy, we also find a very reserved lounge and sunbathing area located in the front of the upper deck.
