'Below Deck' Shows A Piece Of Yacht Charter Season

how long is a below deck yachting season

Even though most reality shows air over the course of several months, they usually film over a very small window, much shorter than the weeks it takes to air the footage. And on a show like Below Deck that takes place during a certain time frame, timing can be very important. So how long is a Below Deck charter season? Well, that depends. If you're thinking specifically of the season of Below Deck filmed for TV, the answer can be just a few weeks — the show tapes over a very short period and Eros charters may each last for about three days, according to Yacht Charter World. If you're speaking more generally about full charter seasons for yachts like the one shown on Below Deck , they can last for months at a time . Depending on where you are and where you want to go, the season starts at different times.

For example, Below Deck films in the Caribbean during the winter, in January — that's part of the regional charter season. That means that January is the prime time to travel in the Caribbean on a huge yacht. But even though Below Deck wraps up quickly, the cast could easily jump to a new gig once their TV commitments are complete, because the full Caribbean charter season is four to five months long. That is a long time to be stuck on boats in close working quarters, which is why Below Deck shows the crew taking breaks, having days off, and unwinding between charters. If not, they'd go insane. They're insane enough without having to work for months straight.

And because renting yachts is a worldwide phenomenon, there's no set time or set place where charters are always going on or come to a total stop. Within reason, everywhere that there's water, you can hire a boat to take you during some part of the year.

For the employees, they can choose to work as much or as little of each season as they like, picking their busy time of year depending on where, when, and how long they want to work.

The time can also be different depending on where you are on the globe, from hot locations where November-April is the preferable season to travel, to the summer season, described by YCF as covering the Mediterranean and Europe, which picks up in May and lasts through October.

If you want to charter a yacht, you can do it at pretty much any time, you just might not encounter the Below Deck crew. To up your chances of meeting the reality TV cast, then heading down to the Bahamas early in the year is your best shot. And it will be lovely weather for a charter.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 plot

Bravo offered this synopsis of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 and it gives you a good sense of what's coming in the new season:

"Capt. Glenn and his comeback team Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae resume their responsibilities aboard Parsifal III, along with new, dynamic crew members, as they set sail in Sardinia, Italy. Capt. Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior department, much to Daisy's dismay.

"In the galley, Chef Ileisha’s cooking impresses the guests, but her indecisiveness and co-dependency lead to time-management issues between courses, which causes her to self-destruct. On deck, strong personalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near mutiny, as Gary clashes with his new overconfident deckhand, Chase.

"Two overlapping love triangles further complicate the dynamics on-board, and a shocking hookup puts Colin, Daisy and Gary’s friendship in jeopardy. With a near collision, fire, crew rebellion, gruesome guest injury and two different potentially season-ending engine failures, this is the most captivating and unpredictable season yet of Below Deck Sailing Yacht ."

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht Complete Guide: Updates, Cast, Seasons

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

When Below Deck sailed onto Bravo in 2013, it was a hit with fans. It quickly spawned several spin offs. Below Deck Mediterranean debuted in 2013. In February 2020, Below Deck Sailing Yacht premiered.

It followed the lives of “yachties” working on a 177-foot sailing yacht called Parsifal III. This luxurious vessel cruised the Ionian Sea. If you are a newbie, or just brushing up on this franchise, this Below Deck Sailing Yacht guide has everything you need.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Cast Members

Captain Glenn Shephard has been at the helm since the series debuted . He is relaxed until pushed to the limit. During Season 2, Captain Glenn assembled a core team that returned for multiple seasons.

During Season 2, Gary King served as chief officer, and Colin MacRae was the chief engineer. Chief stew Daisy Kelliher also joined the crew. Chef Natasha De Bourg , who had a Michelin-star rating, left after the second season. The guests may have loved her food, but Daisy was critical of her skills.

Chef Ileisha Dell took over the galley during Season 4. She prepared an elaborate, and time-consuming, 10-course meal. Chef’s kiss!

Memorable Moments

There have been plenty of fireworks on this franchise. And we have it all in this handy Below Deck Sailing Yacht guide. During Season 1, Chef Adam Glick and chief stew Jenna MacGillivray hit it off. Their PDA-filled “boatmance” turned off their fellow crew members.

There was baby drama after Season 2 when second stew Dani Soares announced that she was pregnant with Jean-Luc Cerza Lanaux’s child. Jean-Luc requested a DNA test , which confirmed he was the father of Dani’s daughter.

And Gary participated in too many romances. During Season 2, he romanced both deckhand Sydney Zaruba and stew Alli Dore .

Then Daisy and Gary had sex between Seasons 3 and 4. During Season 4, Daisy also hooked up with Gary’s buddy, Colin. Yet Gary continued to flirt with Daisy. Season 4 became awkward in a hurry!

Gary was also involved in another romantic entanglement with stew Mads Herrera . But she locked lips with deckhand Alex Propson , too. Season 4 absolutely delivered!

Add in some nautical accidents, too. Captain Glenn hit the dock twice during Season 2. And during Season 3, a hazardous overnight squall put everyone in danger.

All in all, there was plenty of excitement aboard Parsifal III.

Taking readers behind the scenes, YachtCharterFleet identifies the yachts featured on the show, as well as those which have appeared on the celebrated spin-off series Below Deck: Mediterranean , Below Deck: Sailing , Below Deck: Down Under and the latest iteration, Below Deck: Adventure .

Bravo’s hit reality TV series Below Deck chronicles the lives of crew members who work and reside aboard a luxury yacht during the charter season.

Each season features a different crew configuration, and the episodes show how the crew members interact and deal with personal issues alongside their working lives. The seasons are filmed over six weeks, with every episode featuring a new group of charter guests.

Getting even closer to these Below Deck superstars, we take a look at each of the stand-out features of every yacht that has appeared on the show.

Truly opulent, she bears interiors that are sleekly finished with a range of warmly toned woods and plenty of comfortable furnishings. She also boasts one of the largest sundecks for a yacht of her size.

Below Deck: Mediterranean Season 1 yacht IONIAN PRINCESS is not currently available for private yacht charter vacations.

Below Deck: Sailing Yacht

This is the first time the Below Deck franchise branched away from gleaming motor yachts, with the various weather issues that sailing yachts have to contend with adding even more drama and excitement.

The design of luxury sailing yachts  also creates far more confined crew areas than we are used to seeing on the original Below Deck . In general, sailing yachts tend to feature smaller galleys, compact stew stations and cramped crew quarters which are in closer proximity to the guests’ living areas, putting crew under increased pressure to deliver their signature silver service.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3

In addition, deck crew are placed in a far more demanding role, with sailing yachts requiring increased accuracy and precision to safely maneuver and plenty of deck duties taking place in the midst of guest areas.

Below Deck Yachts

Yacht with Below Deck logo

If you’ve never seen the show, it follows the crew of a luxury yacht during peak “charter season.” The original Below Deck, for example, showed off the glitz and glamour of the Caribbean, especially around St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. The Mediterranean spin-off, on the other hand, highlights European hotspots, including Italy, Spain and Croatia.

The show is undeniably a ton of fun. From the drama in the crew quarters, to the incredible beaches, the show provides an entertaining look behind the curtain.

Yet, the chartered superyachts are the real stars of the show. Each season, Below Deck features a truly stunning super yacht. All of them measure over 150 feet and are decked out in opulent features, staterooms and amenities. And here’s something you might not know: The majority of the Below Deck yachts are available for charter!

Below Deck Charter Yachts

Through five seasons, Below Deck has featured some of the most magnificent super yachts in the world. Some of the yachts have changed ownership since the show, been renamed, or have undergone a refitting. Yet, most look like they did from the show.

But beyond the name and maybe a few changes to the interior, there aren’t many differences. All of the water toys, Jacuzzis and stunning outdoor dining areas are what you’ll find on the yachts available for charter! So which charter yachts are available?

Here’s a more detailed look at the yachts featured on the original Below Deck:

Honor – Season 1

Lumiere yacht

Honor (which is now LUMIERE) kicked off the first season, and she put on a dazzling display. The yacht, originally built by Benetti in 1999, is one of the largest yachts ever featured on the show, and it was actually booked for a five-week charter for filming.

HONOR benefited from the new-found fame of the show. She sold after it aired for nearly $15 million, and the new owners completely refit her interiors and renamed the boat. Today, LUMIERE is a masterpiece of nautical engineering.

She features luxurious accommodations for up to 12 guests and an abundance of deck space, including a sprawling sun deck. The yacht also features a wide array of water toys (the slide was a struggle for the crew all season!).

Ohana – Season 2

Yacht Rhino

Season 2 took the crew on a tour of the British Virgin Islands and featured some familiar faces. Captain Lee, Chef Ben, and Bosun Eddie were back, much to the pleasure of fans. Yet, the yacht was completely different.

OHANA (real name is RHINO) was featured on the second season, a stunning 154-footer, with beautiful decks, a horseshoe outdoor bar, and a stunning outdoor sun deck. After the show aired in 2014, Ohana underwent an extensive retrofit.

She now features an updated interior with a decidedly modern, airy vibe, as well as new hardware, including a state-of-the-art stabilization system.

Eros – Season 3

Yacht Mustang Sally

EROS took centerstage in Season 3, and the 161-foot yacht, originally built for the founder of Tim Hortons, was one of the most luxurious featured on the show. The beautiful tri-deck, featured a stately saloon, a sky lounge Jacuzzi, and sleek exterior styling.

EROS – which was sold prior to the third season – has since been renamed and was also remodeled. She’s now known as Mustang Sally, and unfortunately, this is one of the few Below Deck charter yachts that’s not available for charter.

Valor – Seasons 4 & 5

how long is a below deck yachting season

The stately VALOR was a fan favorite in Season 4 and 5. Built in 1990 by Dutch-based Feadship, the 154-foot VALOR featured a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges. Plus, the ship – when featured on the show – had a range of water toys, including dual jet skis and a sleek, boutique hotel-inspired interior.

Like Mustang Sally, VALOR – which is now known as simply BG – isn’t available for charter. Yet, fans will always remember all the drama that took place on board.

Below Deck Mediterranean Yachts

Below Deck Mediterranean premiered in 2016, and through three seasons, the show has featured some of the Med’s best yachts. All of the yachts from the Mediterranean spin-off are available for charter, exactly how you see them on the show.

Ionian Princess – Season 1

Yacht Ionian Princess

Season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean launched with a bang, featuring one of the strongest premieres for the franchise. Although there was plenty of drama throughout the season as the crew traveled around Greece, the beauty of IONIAN PRINCESS couldn’t be missed. The ship, which was originally built in the U.S. in 2005, featured a sleek, streamlined tri-deck design and gorgeous interiors.

The sun deck – where guests partied all season long – is one of the yacht’s star attractions, featuring a Jacuzzi with world-class views. Her interior, though, is one of the most stunning, featuring a chic design. The yacht also includes six cabins with accommodations for up to 12 guests.

Sirocco – Season 2

Sirocco yacht

Season 2 took the crew to Croatia, aboard SIROCCO. The Dutch-built yacht originally launched in 2006, and thanks to its unique two-tone, third-deck exterior, she was remembered for her striking exterior. All of the yacht’s features made great TV. From her incredible sun deck, to the African chic interior, and all of the many water toys, SIROCCO’s impressive design and amenities stood out.

Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean. A few unique features include a sun deck gym, an alfresco party deck, a theatre, and a wide array of water toys.

Talisman Maiton – Season 3

Talisman

Named for an island in Thailand, TAILSMAN MAITON is a stunning tri-deck that cruises the pristine waters of Italy and all of the Mediterranean. The largest to ever be featured on the show, TAILSMAN is truly incredible.

The yacht accommodates 12 guests, in 6 beautifully appointed rooms. There’s a master suite, as well as 1 VIP stateroom, and four smaller cabins. The yacht was built in 2006, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. The yacht also features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.

How Long Are the Below Deck Charters?

Here’s a little-known secret about Below Deck: The “charter season” on the show is just a few weeks. In fact, the yachts are actually booked for about six weeks, and their regular crews are sent home. In other words, the charters on Below Deck are actually a charter within a charter!

Each of the Below Deck charters last just a few days, and each episode features new charter guests.

Below Deck Yacht Rental Costs

Hiring a yacht from Below Deck isn’t cheap. The majority cost in the neighborhood of $150,000 per week. Yet, that charter rate doesn’t include expenses, including fuel, dockage fees, and taxes.

Yet, for that price, you’ll get a truly world-class experience. The crews of each of these yachts provide first-class service and all of the boats are fully loaded with amenities. There’s nothing quite like it in the world. And by hiring one of these superyachts, you’ll also have bragging rights for chartering a yacht featured on a TV show!

45 Rules the 'Below Deck' Cast Has to Follow

Rule #1: Don't piss off the captain.

Headshot of Charlotte Chilton

Our product picks are editor-tested, expert-approved. We may earn a commission through links on our site. Why Trust Us?

Getting paid to sail to exotic locations around the world might sound idyllic, but the crew members on Below Deck have it anything but easy. From grueling shifts to demanding guests, it's no wonder every episode brings drama on the high seas. Think you could cut it? Here, we've rounded up the rules of yachting, plus all the ins and outs of filming the reality show. Spoiler: It sounds like a lot of work.

Everyone has to apply online.

below deck mediterranean season 2

Crew members have to meet an age requirement.

below deck season 3

All applicants must be at least 21 years old to join the show.

Visas must be secured before filming.

below deck season 1

Since yachting is an international industry, there's a lot of logistical details involved. All Below Deck crew members are responsible for securing the appropriate visa to work in that season's filming location.

All licenses and certifications must also be secured.

below deck season 2

Potential cast members must provide the proper paperwork that says they are able to work on the boat. "Each of the crew members has to have an STCW, which is a standard set by the maritime industry for watch-keeping and just being on board—it's basic first aid, firefighting," Captain Lee Rosbach told Reality Blurred .

Cast members must sign a contract.

below deck season 2

In order to be on the show, every crew member has to sign a contract with Bravo , as well as a waiver and release form for appearing on television.

Candidates for public office can't be cast.

below deck season 7

Bravo isn't about to let you launch your political career on their show. In order to join the cast, the contract says that you can't be a current candidate for public office. You also can't run for office until a year after your episodes have aired.

Background checks are mandatory.

below deck season 3

The show vets each cast member thoroughly to make sure they can get the job done safely— and they'll also bring the drama. "It's almost impossible to find a real functioning crew and step on with cameras and say go," co-executive producer Rebecca Taylor told The Triton .

Be prepared to work hard.

below deck season 5

No one on the boat is banking a typical eight-hour work day. As former cast member Kate Chastain revealed , cast members sign on for 16-hour or longer shifts.

The cameras are rolling 24/7.

below deck season 5

The crew members are filmed 24 hours a day, seven days a week . In addition to the camera crew on board, there are hidden cameras around the boat, including in cast member's cabins.

Don't expect any privacy.

below deck mediterranean season 2

The bathroom is the only place a cast member is allowed to have privacy. As such, it's the only place onboard without cameras. But if there's more than one crew member in the bathroom at the same time, the camera crew can follow them in .

Filming continues for more than a month straight.

below deck season 3

Each season is put together from around-the-clock footage of the cast members shot over the course of six weeks .

The schedule is airtight.

below deck season 2

Other reality shows can lengthen their filming schedule to capture extra footage, but Below Deck can't extend beyond six-weeks due to the extra expense of chartering the yacht. It's up to cast members to bring the drama in the allotted time.

A charter season is longer in real life.

below deck season 1

While the schedule on Below Deck seems grueling, it's not as long as a typical charter season. Production typically books the boat for six weeks within a boat's months-long season— so it's basically a charter within a charter.

Guests really do pay for their charter.

below deck season 3

"They spend their real money to be on the show," executive producer Mark Cronin told Bravo TV . But since it may not be the most relaxing trip, guests that are featured on the reality show get a 50% discount on their charter.

The guests pay tips out of pocket, too.

below deck season 2

It's entirely up to the guests what they tip crew members. So if the crew feels slighted by a small tip, that's all real.

The charter guest's airfare is covered.

below deck sailing yacht season 1

The cost is built into production's budget, so charter guests are flown in and out courtesy of Bravo . Talk about a nice perk.

Some rooms on the boat are off-limits.

below deck season 1

There are a number of rooms devoted to production that aren't shown on camera, nor shown to guests. Production typically sets up their control room in one of the boat's staterooms, while the actual master suite is also occupied by crew, rather than guests.

No speaking to the production crew.

below deck season 1

Bravo is pretty strict with maintaining the fourth wall, and Below Deck takes this rule very seriously. While filming, cast members are not allowed to interact or even acknowledge the presence of production.

No shoes on deck.

below deck

Ever noticed the crew members walking around barefoot? There's a reason. "The crew members and guests are generally not permitted to wear shoes on board the yacht so as to prevent damaging the floors," Bravo confirms , "which explains why they don't always look the cleanest after a hard day's work."

Make time for real boating duties.

below deck season 2

Sometimes it feels like the onboard drama supersedes the duties of the crew, but it doesn't. Each crew member has been hired for their actual yachting experience, and is expected to deliver. "These are real yachties. These are people whose careers depend on this," executive producer Courtland Cox told Bravo TV .

How Much Time Off Does The Below Deck Cast Get During A Season?

Below Deck cast

Spending weeks on end on a luxury yacht might sound like a dream to some, but all that time together it can be rough seas for the cast of Below Deck . There's always some sort of drama happening, both above and below deck, that the crew is constantly a part of. And since they seemingly spend every waking hour with each other, it's no wonder that they sometimes (well, let's face it, all the time) seem to get on each other's nerves. But if you're wondering if bosuns, stews, and deckhands ever get a break, here's how much time the Below Deck cast gets during a season.

If it seems like the Below Deck cast is together a lot, well, they are. They work together, they live together, eat their meals together, and (ahem) often get drunk together (via New York Times ). Work and play seemingly mesh with each new season and cast of characters. But to understand how much time off the cast has, you first have to understand how long a charter season actually is. Unlike other reality shows that might film over many months, though, Below Deck only takes a few weeks to film (via Bravo TV ).

Here's how long the Below Deck cast really has off for

Why? That's how long a charter season typically lasts for (via Bustle ). With each charter lasting up to three days, the season is jam-packed with new guests looking to enjoy the luxe life of a mega yacht. So while the turnover time might be tight from one charter to the next, it would seem that the crew doesn't ever get any downtime, but not so. According to Men's Health , the cast gets a whopping three days off per season.

So what do they do during those precious days off? Do they travel and actually get to enjoy the locations that they're in, like St. Martin, Tahiti, or Phi Phi Islands? (via The Cinemaholic ). Possibly, but if they are, they aren't doing it together. When they do get some down time during those three days off, the cast stays at a hotel (not the yacht!), and are instructed to not communicate with each other. The reason: if there's any interaction (read: drama), the production crew of Below Deck wants to make sure to capture it all on camera.

And there you have it. While the Below Deck crew might get a slight breather between charters, they only get three actual days off during a typical charter season, which might last up to six weeks straight. It might make you rethink your own vacation days.

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Season 4 Reunion Revelations: Where Each Boatmance Stands Post-Filming

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4 Reunion Revelations Where Each Boatmance Stands Post-Filming 273

Drama from season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht did not remain on board — and the cast had plenty of issues to address during the reunion.

The Bravo special, which aired its first part on Monday, July 17, centered around the challenges that Captain Glenn , Gary King and Daisy Kelliher faced during the latest charter season. A noticeable change from the season 4 finale to the reunion was the distance between Daisy and Colin MacRae .

The former couple, who started a relationship during their time on Parsifal III, did not appear to be on good terms. Daisy hinted at a falling out between her and Colin before they virtually crossed paths after filming season 4.

“I am going to leave it to the reunion. I feel like he [has the most to answer for at the reunion]. I have a lot of love for Colin, but things are complicated,” she explained on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in June when a fan asked why she unfollowed Colin on social media. “I don’t need complication on my social media.”

Before new episodes started to air in April, Daisy also discussed Gary and Colin’s overlapping interest in her. “I definitely feel like [Gary] was jealous. I think the boys — at times it did feel like I was a trophy prize [for them]. I could be completely wrong but [the way they acted felt a] bit like an ego thing going on between the two of them,” she exclusively told Us Weekly that same month. “And I was like, ‘OK, I don’t really want to be involved in this.'”

Part 2 of the season 4 Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion will air on Bravo at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, July 18.

The Distance Between Daisy and Gary

During the second part of the reunion, Daisy accused Colin of affecting her friendship with Gary. "You made me feel so guilty about Gary. I eventually stopped talking to him and stopped being friends with him," she shared after crying on screen.

Colin and Gary later noted that they wanted to work on their friendship — but neither seemed to have high hopes about their individual relationships with Daisy.

The Truth Behind Daisy and Colin's Connection

According to Daisy and Colin, they originally hooked up before filming season 4. The chief stew, however, accused Colin of being with another woman as well, which he didn't originally disclose. Daisy also claimed Colin told her several times that he wanted to be with her between seasons 2 and 3 — while he was in a serious relationship.

The engineer, for his part, blew off the "irrelevant" comments about their timeline, adding, "This is what nobody knows in the audience. This is why the relationship turned toxic because you can't reason with this woman. I have realized that and I ended things with her."

A-List 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Fans

After Andy Cohen asked whether any celebrities reached out to the season 4 cast, Daisy recalled getting messages from several Hollywood stars.

"I have had a few celebrities reach out to me. I am not going to name drop. But Christina Applegate had reached out to me after I had seen her — she had a nice conversation with Captain Lee," the chief stew shared. "She's a huge fan of the show so it was really exciting. And obviously Chrissy [Teigen] ."

Mads and Alex's New Normal

Mads and Alex confirmed that they have stayed close after sharing a kiss during their last charter. The pair went on to say that a romance didn't seem to be in the cards amid the deckhand's complicated love life.

Daisy vs. Gary's Management Styles

During the first part of the reunion, Daisy put Gary on blast when she questioned his work ethic.

"I think Glenn acknowledges and is aware of how much I do. But possibly he sometimes isn't aware of what Gary doesn't do. Let's put it that way," Daisy quipped. "Gary could probably manage better. He could probably lead better. This isn't about me, this is about Gary."

In response, Glenn noted that Daisy had a "good point" that he didn't know everything about what happens behind the scenes. Gary, for his part, said he stood by the hard work he put into season 4.

Chase and Ileisha's Relationship Status

"After the show finished filming, I went home and ended things with my boyfriend. Chase [Lemacks] and I were just there for each other and he supported me through a lot of hard times," Ileisha Dell , who had a flirty relationship with Chase , revealed at the reunion. "We kind of went back and forth. He came to Australia and I have been to America a couple of times. I even went to Charleston."

The deckhand, meanwhile, admitted that his connection with Ileisha had a major factor working against them.

"The reality of it is that Ileisha is one of the most amazing women I have ever met but we live on the opposite ends of the world," he added. "Australia and Charleston couldn't be farther from each other. There's nothing but love there."

Yacht life definitely pays.

Week after week on Below Deck , viewers see the crew clean up with giant wads of cash left behind by the charter guests as a "tip" for their work -- and chief stewardess Kate Chastain tells ET, it's not faked for reality TV.

"On a yacht of that size, [a good tip] would be $5,000 a person, for seven days of work," she reveals. "Five grand a crew member, usually. Our charters are a little bit shorter, just so we can make the show, [but] everything else is exactly the same. So, it's prorated. We usually get around $2,500, $2,000. Anything less than $1,000 would be depressing, which sounds crazy, doesn't it?"

Below Deck charters typically last two or three days, but Kate says the crew puts in the equivalent of five days of work to jam-pack the experience with a week's worth of fun.

"We're working not just eight-hour shifts, it's like, we're working pretty much around the clock," she notes. "All the days start to blur together. And during the tip meeting, Captain Lee [Rosbach], will say what we got and I'm always like, 'Is that good? I don’t know anymore… $3,000, are we happy with this?'"

To put this in perspective, those tips are on top of a fee for charting the yachts. Kate previously revealed to ET that it costs about $150,000 a week to take over the ships.

The tips come on top of a regular salary, which differs based on job. A chief stew, reportedly , earns between $62,000 and $75,000 per charter season on a Below Deck -sized yacht (most of the vessels on the show are in the 150-foot range). Second and third stews would make about $50,000 a season, a chef between $70,000 and $95,000, while a captain would earn $120,000 or more, a bosun about $52,000 and deckhands between $40,000 to $52,000.

Kate says there is one part of the tip process seen on the show that might just be for TV -- how the tip is delivered. On the show, the crew stands in line to send off the guests, with the primary charter guest handing over an envelope of cash to Captain Lee. Kate notes that the lineup is standard, but the envelope handoff isn’t.

"There's always a lineup, just 'cause it's polite," she says. "Like, even in Downton Abbey , they all line up. So, I think it's a tradition that’s been around for hundreds of years, but sometimes, I think, instead of traveling with so much cash, they wire the money."

"So, it's not as dramatic," she continues. "But I've had charters where we anchored in the British Virgin Islands, the guests had left, we're eating leftover lobster, drinking leftover champagne, counting our stacks of cash. I felt pretty special at that moment."

Below Deck airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

55m Trinity superyacht Purpose will feature on season 9 of Below Deck

Mustique: 55m Trinity makes a return for season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean in Greece

Season nine of hit reality TV Show Below Deck Mediterranean will return to screens on 3 June 2024 with Captain Sandy Yawn at the helm, marking her eighth consecutive season. According to TV network Bravo, the reality show will be based in the Greek city of Athens and the superyacht crew will cruise on the 54.9-metre Trinity motor yacht Purpose  - a yacht that was formerly known as Mustique.

The yacht was called Mustique throughout the filming of the show, and only changed her name to Purpose in January 2024, shortly after the yacht was listed for sale for $19,000,000. She underwent a substantial refit last year, with her formerly white hull repainted sky blue and her interior undergoing substantial changes, too.

Who are the cast in Below Deck Mediterranean season 9?

Chief stew Aesha Scott (who originally worked with Captain Sandy on seasons four and five of Below Deck Mediterranean ) will return along with Elena Dubaich, who stepped in during season seven when Kyle Viljoen got injured. Chef Johnathan Shillingford, bosun Iain Maclean, deckhands Joe Bradley, Nathan Gallagher, and Gael Cameron, and stew Bri Muller, complete the crew.

A look inside the Below Deck superyacht

Purpose was built by Trinity Yachts in the USA in 2006 and recently underwent a refit in 2023, which saw the completion of a new interior and a comprehensive upgrade of all operational systems. The yacht for charter is currently managed by Hill Robinson and is available throughout various stages of her world tour across the Mediterranean Sea, Scandinavia, Greenland and Canada.

Purpose accommodates 12 guests across six cabins, encompassing a master suite on the main deck and a VIP, three doubles and a twin on the lower deck. Her interior is characterised by a traditional yachting style with dark wood panelling and light upholstery featuring oceanic patterns and blue accents.

She boasts a range of social spaces, including the main saloon lounge with its baby grand piano, the formal dining room and upper deck lounge. Her standout feature includes a spacious sundeck, complete with a Jacuzzi, sun loungers and bar counter with stools – an area where charter guests can enjoy the space as an al fresco gym or open-air cinema when night falls.

Her charter credentials are heightened by a huge range of water toys, as well as an inflatable pool and beach club pontoon.

Equipped with at-anchor stabilisers and accompanied by a nine-metre Intrepid tender, the charter yacht has a top speed of 15.5 knots and a range of 4,000nm at her economical cruising speed.

How much does it cost to charter Mustique from Below Deck?

For summer 2024, Purpose (ex Mustique ) is chartering with Hill Robinson for a rate of €310,000 per week during high season.

6 things you need to know about reality show Below Deck

Below Deck lets us step into the glamorous and drama-filled world of life aboard an expensive superyacht. But just how real is this reality show? And how much does it cost to charter the luxury vessel?

Stream episodes of Below Deck for free on 9Now.

Here is everything you need to know about Below Deck :

It's very real

While viewers have become pretty skeptical about the level of drama on some reality shows, and started to wonder if producers are involved, what happens on Below Deck isn't influenced by a TV crew.

It seems life as a hot young yachtie working with other hot young yachties naturally lends itself to good television. So the producers just sit back and let it unfold.

"I wish that I had the imagination and creativity to come up with the things that actually happen on the show because the things that happen on the show I could never in a million years come up with, could never imagine them," producer Courtland Cox told The Daily Dish .

Below Deck

"I think that's why fans respond to the show the way they do because it's very authentic."

Though the drama of Below Deck is already pretty juicy, it seems things heat up even more when the production crew leaves. The show is filmed for only six weeks because of the high-cost of chartering the yacht. Unfortunately, crew have said the seven or eight week mark of working a charter is when yachties really let loose.

Below Deck

Guests get a discount

Being filmed while enjoying a sailing trip isn't everyone's idea of a good time, so the rich and famous have the cost of their charter slashed by 50 per cent. Their airfare is also covered.

RELATED: 3 of Below Deck's craziest guest moments

That sounds like a good deal for us regular folk, but even with a discount the price is about US$150 to $200,000 a week. The guests are also asked to tip generously but there is no requirement for them to.

Below Deck

The staff on Below Deck isn't the regular team

When the yacht isn't being filmed for Below Deck , it is staffed by a different crew. That's because it would take a lot of background checks and paperwork to find out if the usual staff can do the show.

Even if the regular yachties were cleared for filming, it doesn't mean they would make interesting TV. So producers not only have to cast people who will be entertaining and appealing on camera, they also have to have the right experience and certification for working on a yacht.

But when it comes to poor staff performance, it's Captain Lee Rosbach who decides who stays and who gets fired.

Below Deck

Production crew don't sleep on the yacht

With limited space on the yacht, it's already hard enough for the yachties to pretend the cameras aren't there. So when it comes time for the TV crew to clock-off for the day, they sleep on a separate boat or head to shore to stay in a hotel.

However, just because the camera crew have left doesn't mean the filming stops. There are hidden cameras on the boat, especially in the laundry room after a Season 3 hook-up between two cast members wasn't filmed because there were no cameras in there.

Below Deck

Cast have to abide by lots of rules

Like any workplace, there are rules in place to keep everyone safe and guests happy. So while the yachties are expected to bring the drama for the cameras, it's considered inappropriate to let that impact the service of guests.

how long is a below deck yachting season

The cast also have to be sober on the boat so they can deal with any life-threatening situations that may occur at sea. They are also contractually obliged to agree to be drug tested if requested.

Perhaps the most surprising rule of all, is that production gets to turn off your cabin lights. So if you're trying to get some rest, you might need to pack an eye mask before jumping aboard.

The crew members are pretty well compensated

You might wonder whether the crew of a super yacht like the one shown on Below Deck are well compensated, and while we don't know any particular figures for the faces we see on the show, we've done some research.

For example, the 'Chief Stew' of a standard sized yacht between 80 to 100 feet long (about 30 metres) is usually expected to make between $55,000 and $70,000 a year as a starting salary.

how long is a below deck yachting season

Given that the Below Deck yacht is in fact 45 metres long, you can expect the Chief Stew to be earning closer to $80,000 to $100,000 a year.

Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck Mediterranean confirmed this in a tweet announcing that she earns around $106,000 on the show.

But then there are the tips. According to Screen Rant , the crew can earn up to US$15,000 per person in tips over about six weeks.

Below Deck's Daisy Kelliher issued warning to future crewmates after failed romance

Daisy Kelliher , a fan favorite from the second series of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , has opened up about her struggles when the show shifted focus from her professional life to her personal relationships with crew members.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Express US , Daisy discussed the love triangle between herself, Colin MacRae, and Gary King that caused significant tension in Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

  • Below Deck fans are curious to know just how old Captain Kerry Titheradge is
  • Below Deck Down Under's Laura Bileskalne apologizes for inappropriate behavior

When asked what advice she would give to newcomers on the show, Daisy responded: "Just don't screw the crew! It is very physically demanding and mentally demanding."

She also expressed concern for younger participants, saying: "I also think if you're very young it would be tough, I see a lot of young people coming on the show, like 22 or 23 years old, which I find a bit concerning.

"I did it when I was 33, which I think was a good age."

When questioned about any regrets from her time on the show, Daisy said: "I have no regrets but this season was an interesting shift with the show going from my professional life to my personal life.

"And that was, yeah, that was a tough one for me to experience.

"It was a learning experience but I have no regrets but it definitely stands out as less positive."

The chief stew, Daisy, had a fleeting fling with Colin that ended in an on-camera confrontation during Season 4, resulting in a harsh remark from the technician that brought her to tears and off-screen.

Despite her brief romance with Colin, Daisy's playful banter with Gary continued, leading to an embarrassing slip of the tongue in the bedroom.

Post-breakup, Daisy expressed her remorse about the public nature of their split, calling it her "worst nightmare" in a candid interview with People.

She confessed to People: "I feel like I've been through the worst of it."

Continuing, she added, "I've dealt with a lot over the last few weeks, and now I'm just putting it behind me and just hoping everyone enjoys the season and that will make it all worthwhile."

With Season 4 behind her, Daisy is now concentrating on her career and globetrotting adventures.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s Gary King behavior may prevent season five from airing

Below deck sailing yacht's gary king is being blamed for the delay in season five episodes..

Gary King

The crew members from Bravo ’s Below Deck shows are no strangers to controversy, but one star’s behavior may be putting a filmed season of his show on the line.

Sexual misconduct scandals plagued Below Deck Down Under, leading to the dismissal of cast members , and others with surprising histories and back stories also found themselves on the chopping block at points as well.

However, crew members from Below Deck Sailing Yacht have been left with more questions than answers about their future–and not because of complicated romances.

  • Below Deck star issued warning to fitire crewmates after failed romance
  • Below Deck fans are curious to know just how old Captain Kerry Titheradge is

Gary King from the show was accused of sexual misconduct by makeup artist Samantha Suarez in 2023–but still remains attached to the show, with the only known consequences being his removal from BravoCon.

However, while he hasn’t officially been fired, his alleged actions are potentially keeping the already filmed fifth season from airing.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht

Suarez told Rolling Stone in August 2023 that King had allegedly tried to force himself on her during the show’s season four production, which filmed in Sardinia, Italy , in 2022.

King has continually denied the allegations. Eagle-eyed fans noticed he seemingly got defensive about the situation in the comments on his latest Instagram post, where someone commented he had done something "against someone’s will," and he quickly responded.

“Against their will, what the f--k are you talking about never have I nor will I ever do anything against anyone’s will, get a life and go talk s–t somewhere else. Ps f--k off,” he wrote.

On Reddit , fans weren't buying, though, saying he would “never take responsibility” for any of his alleged actions.

Gary King

“This is the same guy who kept saying Mads lied to him, made him look like an idiot and that she ‘never said anything about their relationship being just casual’, and that she lead him on,” one person wrote. “Cuts to production literally showing all instances where Mads said to him that it was just sex for her. He will never take responsibility for his behavior or actions.”

“Gary just doesn’t get it. He has horrible impulse control issues around women, but for some reason, otherwise perfectly lovely women like Mads and Daisy reward and reinforce Gary’s aggressive arm-grabbing, barreling into and clotheslining around their necks. They like him, and that’s their business,” another said. “So in his rather simple mind, he thinks he can act like that with all women, and he’s confused when women don’t like it and find him repulsive.”

“He can say what he wants, but the bottom line is that the show is now in jeopardy of being canceled (Sailing not BD). That would not be happening if Bravo didn’t feel like the heat of liability is out there,” another pointed out.

“It;s really sad because loads of us have waited months for the new season and there’s the potential of it not happening because of f---ng scummy Gary! He’s hurt someone, and he’s not taken our show potentially off the air. I’ve seen his comments, and it’s hundreds of people defending him! It’s disgusting!” another said.

Gary King

“So obviously, Gary got paid for season 5 if its already been recorded, I wonder if they fine him any his salary or if they make him give a portion to charity,” they added. “Or is it just ‘keep the money, don’t call us ever again!”

Bravo has not addressed the allegations against Gary, or what has kept the show’s fifth season off the air.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Below deck med: what happened to colin macy-o'toole after season 4, below deck med star attempts to improve damaged reputation after allegedly faking poor performance.

  • Conrad no longer works in yachting; he's an entrepreneur with various business ventures.
  • He found love and started a family, introducing his partner Hannah and daughters on social media.
  • Although turning 30, Conrad prioritizes his family over sharing updates on Instagram.

Since Conrad Empson appeared in Below Deck Mediterranean season 3, his life has completely changed. During his time on the show, Conrad was the bosun aboard the Talisman Maiton. He worked alongside deckhands Joao Franco, Colin Macy-O'Toole, and Jamie Jason. However, his claim to fame in the series was his relationship with Chief Stew Hannah Ferrier . Their relationship caused quite a lot of drama on board, with Captain Sandy Yawn even getting involved.

Throughout the season, Conrad was caught up in his relationship with Hannah, which damaged his work ethic. As Captain Sandy began to notice, she warned the bosun and told him to distance himself from the chief stew while on deck. Towards the end of the season, Conrad's relationship with Hannah becomes more and more volatile. They both decided not to take the Prague trip they had planned, but they did spend the night together in the primary cabin before departing the vessel.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Conrad Doesn't Work In Yachting Anymore

He's an entrepreneur.

Since appearing on the Bravo series, Conrad has moved on from his career in the yachting industry and began a new job. Shortly after his season finished airing , Conrad moved to New York City, where he bought, renovated, and sold homes , according to Conrad's Instagram. He even shared his new project with his fans on his YouTube channel.

However, this business venture did not work out for him, and he moved back to the UK. During the beginning months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Conrad launched another new business venture, Focus Fitness . The company is a personal training app that offers clients a coach to help and support them right from the first day of signing up. Nonetheless, this business venture didn't work out either. But this didn't stop Conrad from being an entrepreneur.

Conrad founded CrewPass , a service that allows employers to do background checks, certificate verifications, and more . The service essentially allows employers to hire competent employees quickly, which is helpful in the yachting industry. On the CrewPass Instagram account, a majority of the images are of people working on yachts, so that is likely Conrad's inspiration behind the service. Conrad also runs The Natural Nursery with his partner, Hannah , a children's decor and accessories company.

Conrad Found Love

He has a family.

Besides his career flourishing after leaving the yachting industry, Conrad also found love. On social media, Conrad introduced his partner, Hannah, in March 2021 . It is unknown how long the two had been dating, as his last post before his first one with Hannah was shared in July 2020. Conrad's first post with Hannah was dedicated to her and his mother in honor of Mother's Day.

Below Deck Mediterranean alum Colin hasn't appeared on a season of the show in years but remains a prominent pubic figure. Where is he today?

Hannah has a young daughter whose name is Isla, but her real father is unknown . Many fans have speculated whether or not the child is Conrad's, but he has never given any confirmation. The couple also welcomed a new addition to their family in 2021, a pug named Huxley.

The couple also bought a house together in the UK and welcomed their second daughter, Harlowe . It's unclear when the two welcomed the little girl, but Hannah likely gave birth sometime in late 2022 or early 2023. Conrad has definitely moved on since his boatmance with Chief Stew Hannah.

What Is Conrad Up To In 2024?

He's moved on from his below deck med days.

Since departing Below Deck Med season 3 and leaving the yachting industry behind, Conrad has become a family man. While he has posted much in 2024, his past posts show that Conrad is focused on taking care of the women in his life : his partner and their two daughters. Conrad is likely busy being a dad and making money rather than sharing updates on his Instagram. However, Conrad did reveal back in April that he turned 30-years-old .

Officially 30

The post received a lot of love from fans and friends of Conrad's but none of his former Below Deck Med season 3 castmates . Nonetheless, Conrad likely doesn't stay in contact with many of his Below Deck Med crew members; however, he does follow Joao and Colin .

After leaving Italy at the end of Below Deck Mediterranean season 3, Conrad's life has completely changed. Not only does he have thriving businesses, but he has created a family with his partner, Hannah. It seems leaving the yachting industry was the best decision Conrad could have made.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9 p.m. EDT on Bravo.

The Below Deck Med Crew Faces a "F-cking Scary" Issue: "Someone Can Get Hurt, If Not Die"

The Mustique  crew members disagree over how to solve a terrifying issue in a new Below Deck Mediterranean preview.

how long is a below deck yachting season

As Below Deck Mediterranean  fans are well aware, Season 9 has been a wild one. From the very beginning, the Mustique crew has been plagued with drama, both personal and in the form of yacht-related issues . And as a new preview for Episode 7 shows, the problems aren't ending any time soon.

How to Watch

Watch Below Deck Mediterranean  on Mondays at 9/8c and next day on  Peacock . Catch up on the Bravo app .

In the clip, which you can watch above, an anchor issue comes into play, and it may leave guests, including The Traitors ' Trishelle Cannatella, unable to make their flights to Paris.

While in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea on the last day of charter, Captain Sandy Yawn announces that the crew is unable to get the ship's anchor up.

"The anchor shaft isn't working, so we're going to have to leave the anchor," she explains. "We put the buoy on it and get the divers, and then we get it transported back to the marina. And then we install it there, because we need our anchor."

While the plan seems to be going fine — even the guests are okay with the delay, as they get more of a vacation — deckhand Nathan Gallagher doesn't love the process.

"This is f-cking scary," he says while tying the anchor to a buoy on the water. While Sandy says they're free to drop the anchor, it's not that simple.

"We need to take a step back," explains deckhand Joe Bradley . "Because if this anchor chain hits you, or hits the boat, someone can get hurt, if not die."

Because we're not all yachties, Sandy is kind enough to explain what exactly is going on with the ship.

"I've never had to leave an anchor on purpose because a windlass didn't work ," she explains in a confessional. "We tried to tie a line on and haul the anchor in by hand. Didn't work. Option two is we leave our anchor and have someone come and retrieve it. It's a risk to leave our anchor. It's a very expensive piece of equipment. Hopefully it's still there when we return. The weather is here, I have to get these clients back to the dock. We don't really have an option."

So, will they be reunited with the anchor? Will anyone get hit by that terrifying chain? Find out when Below Deck Mediterranean Season 9, Episode 7 airs on Monday, July 15. Watch it live at 9/8c on Bravo or stream the next day on Peacock.
