krilo catamaran split to dubrovnik

By far the best way to travel between Split and Dubrovnik

This is the best transportation option between Split and Dubrovnik and islands in between: Brač, Hvar, Korčula, and Mljet. These are among the most beautiful islands in Dalmatia and this high speed catamaran allows fast and convenient 'island hopping'. It's amazing that it leaves Split around 7:30am and arrives to Dubrovnik around noon, with all four island stops! We made a 3 day stop on Korčula and if we didn't 'discover' Krilo catamaran, we probably wouldn't be able to visit this beautiful island at all. Please ignore (completely) some passengers complaints about long lines because they seem to never been on an airplane There are some 300 seats on the catamaran, similar to number of seats on Being 777, and boarding procedures are similar - you wait in line until you get in. That's how it works and it can't work any other way. As far as booking is concerned, you can now buy tickets online. We did and the process is flawless. It's wise to do it in advance of your travel because tickets may be gone (especially in high season). Just like flying :) Thank you Krilo!

krilo catamaran split to dubrovnik

Does the ferry serve the purpose of taking you from A to B? Yes, it does. Could it be a bit more comfortable whilst doing so? Yes, it could. The line to board is very long so would suggest arrive at least 15 min early to ensure a seat. The ferry I was on did not have any sort of air ventilation system, so it was very hot and muggy. You can get up and walk around or go outside which I found myself doing frequently. There are snacks and water available on board but suggest you bring your own.

I did a lot of research about travel choices between Split and Dubrovnik. I read the Split and Dubrovnik travel forums about the high speed ferry, They overwnelmingly said take the bus. However, last summer we took a three hour "luxury" bus from Tirano, IT to Lugano and my husband said "never again". We didn't want to rent a car and drive so it was with great trepidation that we chose the Krilo ferry. I was pleasantly surprised. It is important to note that we took the ferry end to end. Reviewers had said to queue early so we were there 15 minutes before they started loading in Split at 7:15a. We were able to stow our luggage and find a seat upstairs without difficulty. The boat is similar to other high spped catamarans we've taken in other places. We had relatively calm seas so no one was sick that I saw. And, you get a great view of the different islands it stops at along the way (Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Mljet). There were a few issues. The boat arrived in Dubrovnik about 30 minutes late. People who boarded at the later island stops did have trouble finding seating, and disembarking was kind of a free for all. However, my husband was able to get up, walk around, and take pictures off the open back deck so he was a happy camper. All-in-all it was the right choice. Fyi, we took window seats on the left side of the boat out of Split thinking it would be a better view. However the was tbe sunny side in the AM, plus much of the trip cuts through islands so there is scenery on both sides. I'd sit on the right side out of Split next time.

The catamaran ferry service is a cheap and easy way to island hop along the Dalmatian coast. There are large areas to store luggage and plenty of seats on board. No outside area but many windows (they could do with a clean). Queues for the ferry get pretty long and you must buy your ticket in advance.

We wanted to take a ferry from Split to Dubrovnik and we called them 2 days before if we need to book the tickets in advance. They said " NO NEED TO BUY TICKET IN ADVANCE, THERE IS ALWAYS ENOUGH SPACE" and that we can come at 7:50 and its still ok, even though the schedule said it should leave at 7:40. We came there at 7:20 and the tickets were SOLD OUT and the lady selling tickets said they are ALWAYS sold out. On top of that, the ferry left 7:40 so if we would have came 7:50, we would have missed it anyway... We took Jadrolinja catamaran as well as krilo during our holiday and Jadrolinja is 100 times better. I definitely dont recommend Krilo.

My husband and I were staying in Dubrovnik and had to do a return trip to Split. We decided to catch a bus to Split and return by Krilo Fast Ferry. The ferry was by far our favourite option. We booked from Australia on line (Approx. $40AUD) with prompt and helpful service by Luka Tomic and everything went very smoothly with the information provided. The Catamaran was clean and comfortable with lots of room for luggage and the staff friendly. The plus in taking this mode of transport is that there are no border crossing so arriving to your destination on time is pretty much guaranteed. We left on the dot of 7.40 am in a spot close to the Riva and arrived at 12.30pm stopping at Brac, Hvar, Korcula, Mljet and on to Dubrovnik (Gruz Port). It's a bonus to see the islands along the way and of course you could use this ferry to island hop. A fantastic service and I will be highly recommending it to future travellers.

Thanks for this very well written, clear and helpful information. We were thinking of doing a small ship cruise along the coast but this sounds like a much cheaper option to see the coastline of Croatia. Could you please explain: 1. Is this 45 EUR for a one way or return ticket? 2. Do we have to stay on board for the whole ferry ride or is it possible to get off at different places and get back on a later ferry? Or Get off and stay overnight somewhere, to do sightseeing before continuing the journey the next day? Any other advice you can give would be very much appreciated. Thanks very much.

As far as I know the ferry ticket is for the day of travel only, and does not allow you to break up the journey. But, ask the company as they may allow it.

  • Krilo vs Jadrolin...

Krilo vs Jadrolinija catamarans from Split to Dubrovnik.

Oh my goodness now I know why we pay extra to go on organized tours. Trip planning is a LOT of work. We plan on transferring by catamaran from Split to Dubrovnik and are trying to decide which option would be more enjoyable.

  • Does anyone know if there is much difference between Krilo and Jadrolinija catamarans, comfort wise?
  • Is there a big difference in travel time between catamarans and ferries?
  • Should we purchase tickets on line before we leave. I understand the faster catamarans do not have open decks and 4 plus hours inside a closed cabin sounds like a long time. Croatian coast line is scenic and very beautiful so trying to decide if the slower ferry with deck area would make the journey more fun and make up for the difference of slower travel.

If anyone has experienced either option of transfer your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Safe travels everyone!

I don't think there is a ferry between Split and Dubrovnik, just catamarans. You also have the bus, about four hours (also scenic). https://www.krilo.hr/ https://www.jadrolinija.hr/en/sailing-schedule/local-lines-2019 The primary difference is in schedules, so I'd choose the one you like better time-wise.

I would take the bus, as the scenery is better and there are far more options each day.

I would also take the bus or hire a driver. The cost could be the same if there are more than two of you. But, we have used Krilo from Split to Korcula. We haven’t used Jadrolinija for a few years. krilo is a newer company and from what we saw docked in the summer of 2018 their boats are more modern. Jadrolinija has been around forever (my husband and FIL worked for them is the 70’s) and their boats are older, many are car ferries. I would book whoever has a more convenient time and/or departure pier.

We are currently traveling in Croatia. We drove along the coast from Dubrovnik to Split. Scenery is so beautiful! We took Jadrolinija catamaran from Split to Hvar Town on island of Hvar. One hour ride. Catamaran certainly looked modern to us. Very smooth & comfortable ride. No problem or complaints.

Based on suggestions, sounds like a bus transfer is not as dreadful as I feared. Weather permitting we plan on a day trip to Hvar so that would give us the water experience on the water. Thanks for your reply!

We took Krilo day before yesterday. It leaves at 0730 and arrives shortly after noon in Dubrovnik. The trip was comfortable and easy, not claustrophobic at all. You can walk around as much as you like and there is open deck seating as well as inside. We bought day-of tickets without a problem. It certainly wasn’t full. Costs more than the bus, but you don’t have to worry about tight quarters, leg room, or bathroom stops. Down sides: not much in the way of snacks/food and no WiFi.

We took the Jadrolinja catamaran in July and it was a long trip - 6 hours with stops for disembarking passengers in Hvar. Korcula and one other place. Not a lot of schedule options but it was more comfortable than a bus. I haven't taken the bus so I can't comment on that option. Which ever option you take, you have to book a few days in advance - at least in the summer.

However, ferries don’t connect Dubrovnik to Split anymore. This line was discontinued in 2014. With this in mind, we are heading to the second point – catamarans.

Jadrolinija ferries connect Split to many islands in the Adriatic

There are two companies providing this catamaran service, and these companies are:

  • Jadrolinija
  • Kapetan Luka
  • Jadrolinija – I wrote about it earlier in terms of ferry services. This company also offers catamaran service that connects Dubrovnik to Split. Their catamarans hold up to 350 passengers. Also, Jadrolinija catamarans are air conditioned vessels with comfortable airline seats.

Jadrolinija catamarans and ferries provide ecellent connection between Dubrovnik and Split

Jadrolinija catamarans meeting point is in Gruz port in Dubrovnik. Here is the exact location of Jadrolinija catamarans that connect Dubrovnik to Split. Split to Dubrovnik ferry ticket price is approximately 50 Euro per person (each way). As for the luggage is being concerned, you can leave it on the racks that are available once you board the catamaran . So, luggage is not a concern at all. During the ride, catamarans make stops on Brac, Hvar and Korcula islands. Also, this catamaran ride lasts for almost 6 hours.

Please find below Jadrolinija Dubrovnik to Split catamaran schedule for 2023:

Updated Jadrolinija Dubrovnik to Split catamaran timetable

Finally, here is Jadrolinija official web site where you can book catamarans online.

  • Kapetan Luka – is privately own provider of catamaran services in Croatia. Their services are not available all year round. They operate from 01.04 until 31.10. Therefore you can book them for those dates only. Kapetan Luka catamarans hold up to 440 passengers.

Krilo catamaran is connecting Split to Hvar and to Dubrovnik

Meeting for Kapetan Luka (Krilo.hr) catamarans is in Gruz port in Dubrovnik . Here is the exact location of Kapetan Luka catamarans that connect Dubrovnik to Split. Ticket price of a catamaran from Split to Dubrovnik is approximately 50 Euro to Split each way. As for the luggage is being concerned, you can leave it on the racks that are available once you board the catamaran . So, luggage is not a concern at all. During the ride, catamarans make stops on Brac, Hvar, Mljet and Korcula islands. Also, this catamaran ride lasts for approximately 4 1/2 hours.

Please find below Kapetan Luka Dubrovnik to Split catamaran schedule for 2023:

Krilo catamarans offer catamaran services

In the end, here is Kapetan Luka (krilo.hr) offical website where you can book catamarans online.

Both companies ( Jadrolinija and Kapetan Luka ) offer pretty much the same catamaran service to Dubrovnik. You can buy tickets in their booths that are located in the port of Dubrovnik. However, I suggest you to book the tickets online. After all, this is definitely more convenient and you will skip the lines.

Arrival to Split by catamaran

Jadrolinija – their catamarans arrive to the Pier of St. Nicholas (Gat sv. Nikole in Croatian) in Split. Here is the exact Google location of the Pier of St. Nicholas.

Kapetan Luka – their catamarans arrive to the Pier of St. Peter (Gat sv. Petra in Croatian) in Split. Here is the exact Google location of the Pier of St. Peter.

Both companies land in the port of Split. This is a very heart of town. From the piers where the catamarans land it is very easy to reach the old town of Split. Bus station, train station and taxis are very central, not far from landing piers. As a result of that, it is very easy to travel to other destinations from Split.

3. Reaching Split by private boat

Finally, we got to this part. Private boat transfer to Split is by all means the most convenient way of traveling in the Adriatic. There is also a huge demand for this service. Therefore, there are many companies offering this type of service. I have used the services of Atlantis Marine Company many times and I was always happy with them.

However, as I said, there are many companies on the market, supplying these services. Hence, I would recommend you to do your own research on this subject.

Definitely, this is the most expensive way of traveling and you really have to look into it deeply (we all have our budgets, ways of traveling and the idea of a great holiday). Of course, take your time when doing this.

Conclusion – All right dear reader! I hope that I’ve posted some useful information here, information that might help you to organize your journey from Dubrovnik to Split. If you have some questions, please feel free to post them in the comments section. I will gladly reply! Finally, I wish you a wonderful holiday in Croatia!

I was hoping to be able to spend time on the deck in order to snap the best pictures. Looks like there will be no deck on the catamarans between Split and Dubrovnik….especially in October.

Thanks for the information you supplied.

Hello Larry, I hope all is well. You are right, outside decks are not available on catamarans between Split and Dubrovnik. Best regards Filip

From Dubrovnik to Split in 4 and a half hours with Krilo

  • News News Brac News Korcula

One of the biggest advantages of the Krilo catamaran line Dubrovnik – Split is no document preparation and border crossing , as is the case in other means of transport.

Sailing from Dubrovnik starts at 4:30 pm every day, and it should be noted that the catamaran stops in Pomena on Mljet , Korčula , Hvar , Milna on Brač and arrives in Split just before 9 pm. The price of a one-way ticket is 240 kuna.

‘I’m fine because I’m home’

Dulist.hr interviewed a cheerful five-member crew of Krilo . Passengers are greeted at the entrance by the likeable Josip Čupić. This deck officer, otherwise from Ploče, has been part of the ‘Krilo’ crew since 2016.

I did one part of the cadetship here, and the other on the long one. I feel good because I am at home and I prefer to work with passengers. I met a lot of people from all over the world. Čupić

He hopes that we might be close to those high numbers of 2019 in the next year already . He adds that this year they have around 15,000 passengers per day , which is incomparably better than last year.

It is convenient to sail with us. The border is avoided, it is a more comfortable way to travel than by bus and car.  In about 15 days we will have a crowd. It turns out, every weekend, that we go slowly towards a larger number. For example, last year only August was good. The season was short. I don’t know what this year will happen, but it should be better than last year, anyway. Čupić

‘We are an old shipping family’

It is a line maintained by the famous shipping company Kapetan Luka , better known as Krilo . Luka Tomić , director of the company based in Krilo Jesenice says that his family has been in shipping for generations. The company dates back to the end of 1889.

We are an old shipping family. We always had some boats, but in 2001 we got involved in working with fast boats and in 2004 we focused exclusively on this segment of tourism. We started our first voyages in 2013. Back then, we only sailed twice a week and as early as the following year, we expanded our driving schedule. In 2014, we ailed throughout the season, then from early May to mid-October, with the exception that we sailed four times a week in the beginning, as well as at the end of the season. In 2015, we started sailing every day throughout the season. Three years before the pandemic, we would start sailing as early as the beginning of April and until the end of October. Tomić

One million and 800 thousand passengers

This year, the company is expected to achieve 55% to 60% from 2019 . Otherwise, on all lines, throughout the year, under normal conditions, they would carry between 650 and 700 thousand passengers.

On the lines to Dubrovnik since 2013, we have transported, on all routes, around one million and 800 thousand passengers. All workers remained in the company throughout the coronavirus period. No one was fired, even though the ships didn’t operate at all for most of the year. We expect a very good next year. We keep our fingers crossed for everyone! Tomić
