Having listened to the advice of our most experienced captains and yacht charter crews, and taken on board the suggestions of many of our clients, Marcus Yacht Brokers has put together a South West Italy yacht charter itinerary that takes in the highlights of this destination. MEGA YACHT CHARTER | LUXURY SUPERYACHT CHARTERS AMALFI COAST

Many visitors see Naples as little more than an unruly porthole to fabled destinations like Capri and the Amalfi Coast . Big mistake. Italy’s third largest city is one of its oldest, most artistic and most delicious. Its centro storico (historic centre) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, its museums boast some of Europe’s finest archaeology and art, and its swag of Marcus palaces and castles make Rome look positively provincial.

Ischia is a volcanic island in the Tyrrhenian Sea. It lies at the northern end of the Gulf of Naples, about 30 kilometers from the city of Naples. It is the largest of the Phlegrean Islands. Roughly trapezoidal in shape, it measures approximately 10 km east to west and 7 km north to south and has about 34 km of coastline and a surface area of 46.3 square kilometers. It is almost entirely mountainous; the highest peak is Mount Epomeo, at 788 meters (2,585 feet). The island is very densely populated, with 60,000 residents.

Sorrento is a town overlooking the Bay of Naples in Southern Italy. A popular tourist destination due to its variety of small antique shops and location on the Amalfi Coast, it can be reached easily from Naples and Pompeii as it is at the south-eastern end of the Circumvesuviana rail line. The town is most commonly known for its small shops selling an arrangement of ceramics, lacework and marquetry.

A legendary idyll: Capri’s beguiling combination of fabled beauty and hedonism has charmed Roman emperors, Russian revolutionaries and showbiz stars for decades. It’s the perfect microcosm of Mediterranean appeal – a smooth cocktail of chichi piazzas and cool cafes, Roman ruins and rugged seascapes.

Li Galli are three small islands called Gallo Lungo, Rotonda and Castelletto. According to the legend told by the Greek Home, in this blue sea the sirens tempted Ulysses on his way back home. It is the Greek figurative art which identifies the sirens in the rocks. The 3 islands have always stood as a point of reference for sailors.

Positano is the coast’s most picturesque and photogenic town, with steeply- stacked houses tumbling down to the sea in a cascade of sun-bleached peach, pink and terracotta colours. No less colorful are its steep streets and steps lined with wisteria-draped hotels, smart restaurants and fashionable boutiques

It is hard to grasp that pretty little Amalfi, with its sun-filled piazzas and small beach, was once a maritime superpower with a population of more than 70,000. For one thing, it’s not a big place – you can easily walk from one end to the other in about 20 minutes. For another, there are very few historical buildings of note. The explanation is chilling – most of the old city, and its populace, simply slid into the sea during an earthquake in 1343

The Amalfi Coast really is a natural paradise, there are no words to define this magical place, no surprise that UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage site. The formation of the Amalfi Coast is like a balcony suspended above the cobalt blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, under the intense blue sky that many painters have tried to reproduce over the years. This area covers a long section of Italy’s west coast from the Gulf of Naples to the Gulf of Salerno and has thirteen main cities and villages, none more beautiful than the other: Amalfi , Atrani , Cetara , Conca dei Marini , Furore , Maiori , Minori , Positano , Praiano , Ravello , Scala , Tramonti , Vietri sul Mare . The beaches along the coast are a real paradise and a yacht charter trip will allow you to admire the wonders of nature directly from the sea and discover coastal hideaways, often unreachable from the mainland.

Located in a splendid position within the homonymous gulf, Naples (Napoli) is a beautiful city, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and enriched by an artistic and architectural heritage that has allowed it to become part of the UNESCO World Heritage. Naples is truly a city that pulsates with energy, animated by the noise of the markets and populated by picturesque and playful local characters, always ready to welcome visitors with a smile and good humour. Naples is a hyper-active city that, all year round, provides its citizens and visitors with interesting opportunities for recreation as well as plentiful nightclubs, discos, bars, pubs and more. If you like a vibrant nightlife, then mooring your charter yacht in the harbour is the best solution. Notwithstanding the delicious recipes offered on board our yachts, it is well worth going ashore to eat original pizza and the tasty Neapolitan dishes.

What makes Ischia an enchanting island is its generosity of nature, art and culture. Ischia is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples and is known for its mineral-rich thermal waters. The thermal springs gush at the Maronti beach , located to the south of the island. To the east, Roman remains can be found on the sea bed of the Cartaromana beach, an ideal spot for anchoring the charter yacht or catamaran for diving and snorkeling . The beach overlooks the mediaeval Aragonese Castle, which is connected to Ischia by a stone bridge.

Capri , the island in the Gulf of Naples , is famous for its rugged terrain, exclusive hotels and shopping , ranging from haute couture and limoncello to handmade leather sandals. One of the most famous natural sites is the Grotta Azzurra , a dark and rocky cavern where the sea water is tinged with electric blue owing to an underground cave that filters the sunlight. During the summer, the spectacular cove- filled coastline attracts numerous motor yachts , sailing yachts and catamarans .

Positano is a very popular tourist destination with pebble beaches and narrow, steep streets filled with shops and cafes. Thanks to the mild climate and the beauty of the landscape, Positano has been a holiday resort since the time of the Roman Empire. Typical are the many staircases that lead from the top of the village down to the beach. The main beaches are Spiaggia Grande and Fornillo , both within walking distance, or you can use the yacht’s tender and visit them by sea. Most famous is the walking path Sentiero degli Dei which starts at Positano and stretches to the other seaside villages of the Costiera Amalfitana .

The city of Amalfi , which gives its name to this section of coast stretching from Vietri sul Mare until Punta Campanella , is one of the most famous tourist centres of the Campania coast. It is known and appreciated all over the world for its artistic and natural beauty and its crystal clear water. Amalfi overlooks the sea with its characteristic houses clinging to the rocks and narrow streets running between the pattern of arches and ancient towers which guard the village. Highly recommended is a walk through the alleys in the old town, between the wide open spaces that you will encounter from time to time. As you climb the stairs leading to the upper districts, you will be overcome by the memorable fragrances and astonishing views. As you can imagine, the best way to enjoy this luxurious place is on board a charter motor yacht , sailing yacht or a catamaran .

Set at 350 metres in a prodigious suspension on a rocky hill overlooking the Amalfi Coast , Ravello looks like a small treasure chest that at first glance impresses, and then seduces. Richard Wagner is symbolic of the music that the city honours every year at the prestigious Ravello Festival . It has hosted distinguished names from Arturo Toscanini to Humphrey Bogart , from Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to Virgina Woolf , from Totò to Gina Lollobrigida , all past courtiers in this elegant kingdom of natural “ bien vivre “. Ravello is deserving of its name as the most precious jewel on the Amalfi Coast .

Herculaneum and Pompeii , the cities “risen” from Vesuvius , are the places of greatest historical and cultural value in the Land of the Sirens . Herculaneum (Ercolano), which boasts an enchanting position right in the centre of the Gulf of Naples , enjoys particular importance both nationally and internationally, for its immeasurable heritage. This comprises the archaeological excavations of the ancient Herculaneum, destroyed by the in 79 AD, the Vesuvian villas of the Miglio d’Oro and Vesuvius itself, all easily reached from the town centre. Stopping in Herculaneum provides an unrivaled view over the archaeological excavations , where you will observe one of the most prestigious monumental complexes of classical antiquity, and where they continue to make new discoveries. At the entrance to the excavations, alongside the Palestra, is a spectacular avenue that offers a view of the dissected part of the city: ruins, mosaics, paintings, statues, interiors and exteriors. Here you can experience more than two centuries of Roman history. Pompeii (Pompei) is famous for the great eruption of 79 AD. That autumn the city was the victim of the devastating activity of Vesuvius and was submerged by ashes and lapilli that fell enveloping the people and the buildings. The rain of volcanic material crystallized the entire city, preserving it in time.

Built on the cliff that separates it from the crowded port, Sorrento is famous for its panoramic view of the sea and Piazza Tasso, dotted with cafes. The historic centre is a maze of narrow streets where the church of San Francesco is located, a 14th century building with a tranquil cloister. The centre stretches harmoniously over a high tufaceous terrace, rich in lush vegetation and is characterized by cliffs with an average elevation of 47 metres above sea level. The view of Sorrento from the yacht will leave you breathless!

Day 1: Saturday

After the check-in on board at DYC base in Pozzuoli (18:00 / 06:00 pm), we will sail for just 6nm arriving in Corricella bay in Procida. The bay is famous for its village with tightly packed houses built on top of each other in a myriad of different colours. The village is known to be a cheerful place, and offers a breathtaking view, especially when the sun is shining on the coloured houses. It is car-free and it’s possible to enjoy an aperitif, dinner or walk to the main village using just stairways and snaking passages to Terra Murata or Casale Vascello. Dinner on board and night at the anchor in the bay.

Day 2: Sunday

After a dip in the sea and a typical traditional breakfast (lingue al Limone), we head to Ischia, the largest island in the Bay of Naples and a popular coastal destination. We will pass close to Vivara, which is connected to Procida by a bridge. This island is home to a nature reserve with rare plants, rabbits and birds. After sailing 8nm, we will arrive in Sant’Angelo bay and Maronti beach. Certainly, the bay is amazing but don’t miss visiting its small, fashionable village or Le Fumarole beach, which can be easily accessed using a small path from the heart of this village. Around 16:00 / 04:00 pm the catamaran will move in a bay close to Ischia Ponte (4nm from Sant’Angelo). Ischia Ponte is famous for its medieval castle that overlooks the bay below (Castello Aragonese). A boat dinner under the castle and a walk among the shops in Ischia Ponte will be an unforgettable experience.

Day 3: Monday

In the morning, we set sail for 19 nm from Ischia to Capri. Get to know the island’s Faraglioni rocks, visit the Blue Grotto and watch the amazing colour of the water as the sunlight hits the caves. Take a tour of the island, passing close the famous Faro and stop to enjoy the ambience at Marina Piccola. Don’t worry, we won’t forget Capri. We will land on the most famous concrete pier in the world to visit Capri village and its narrow streets full of shops, La Piazzetta, Via Tragara, Via Camerelle etc. Every day, famous people from all over the world land on this pier with their mega yachts.

Day 4: Tuesday

Passing through the Faraglioni Rocks, we will head towards Amalfi coast where high mountains, with particular colours, overlook the bays of Nerano, Positano and Amalfi. After a sail of 8.5nm, you will swim in the deep water of Li Galli. The Li Galli islands are three rocky, remote islands (Gallo Lungo, Castelluccio and Rotonda) located a few miles from the beach of Positano and mirrored in the clear sea facing the pearl of the Amalfi coast. According to legend, the islands were inhabited by the mermaids who seduced sailors with their melodious voice, making them lose control of their ships so they crashed on the rocks (a mythological tale highlighting the dangers of navigation). The last inhabitants of these isles were the choregrapher Leonide Massine (who built a wonderful villa on the ruins of an ancient Roman villa decorated by the architect Le Corbusier) and the ballet dancer Rudolph Nureyev. After a short sail to Positano, 4.5nm, we will stop to see the undisputed beauty of the landscape which has contributed to making Positano and the Amalfi Coast famous worldwide. In Positano don’t forget to buy the fresh linen dresses, leather sandals, colourful ceramics and Limoncello.

Day 5: Wednesday

After breakfast we will head to Amalfi (6nm from Positano), passing close to Praiano and Cona dei Marini. We’ll make a short stop visiting the amazing Furore Fjord, a deep rift into the rock at the mouth of a steep valley that falls into the sea, which retains a small beach with a tiny and a picturesque fishing village. Here among the charming ‘monazzeni’ began the stormy relationship between Roberto Rossellini and actress Anna Magnani also known as ‘Nannarella’ during the filming of ‘L’Amore’. The houses are inhabited and have been transformed into an interesting Eco-museum. The fjord is overridden by a bridge suspended at 30 meters high, along which runs the main coast road. Here, on the first Sunday in July, a high diving championship takes place. Just behind Capo Conca we’ll be in Amalfi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the four Italian republics. It is full of history, rich in amazing and ancient buildings and museums. The Cathedral of St. Andrew in Piazza Duomo, the Basilica del Crocifisso, the ancient arsenal of the Maritime Republic and the paper museum are just some of the wonders of Amalfi.

Day 6: Thursday

In the morning we suggest taking a bus from Amalfi to Ravello. Perched on a rocky outcrop, at 365 meters high, Ravello is set right in the middle of the Amalfi coast and overlooks the whole Gulf of Salerno. It is one of the most popular destinations of the Divine coast, due to the irresistible fascination and fame that made it famous in the world. It has a perfect combination of art and music that deserves its UNESCO cultural acknowledgement and recognition as a city of music. Villa Ruffolo, Villa Cimbrone, Villa Rondinaia and the famous Oscar Niemeyer Auditorium will enchant you. In the early afternoon, the catamaran will head to Sorrento, leaving the Amalfi coast and entering the Sorrento coast. It’s 18nm from Amalfi to Sorrento, where you can admire the fantastic landscape and swim in beautiful bays (Nerano bay or Marina di Puolo). Night in Sorrento bay and a visit to the village at night.

Day 7: Friday

At the mooring, you can take a last swim in Sorrento bay or walk through the town. In the early afternoon, we head back to Pozzuoli passing along Naples coast and admiring the city of Naples by the sea with its Castel dell’Ovo, Posillipo hill and Nisida island. Night in Pozzuoli Marina.

Day 8: Saturday

Constantly pushing the boundaries of yacht crafting, Heesen has collaborated with Arcon Yachts of Monaco and Winch Designs to bring the floating masterpiece to life. Arcon Yachts serves as the Owner’s technical advisors and project managers of the full-custom yacht’s construction. Andrew Winch’s interior and exterior design ingenuity has maximized every inch of the vessel’s space while still maintaining an elevated look. Project Sparta features Winch’s signature sleek lines and ultra-modern yet classic touches. 

More than just her looks, Project Sparta utilizes Perry van Oossanen’s patented fast displacement hull form (FDHF) to guarantee a hyper-efficient yet smooth and comfortable journey. She has an internal volume of approximately 1,200 gross tons, and her elegant engine room houses two MTU 12V4000 M65R diesel engines. The mega-yacht will reach a top speed of 16 knots and cut through the seas with a transatlantic cruising range of 4,500 nautical miles at 12 knots. Her crew will operate her from a raised pilothouse, lending itself to a more streamlined and sporty profile.

THE PRIVATE YACHT THAT OFFERS EVERYTHING

Project Sparta comfortably hosts 12 guests, two staff members, and 14 crew members. The bridge deck is reserved for the Owner and is composed of two suites and a private outdoor lounge. The main deck houses four guest suites. Winch Designs has shown off his utilitarian side by incorporating a sliding partition that seamlessly transforms two of the front-facing suites into a full beam VIP suite–a feature unusual for a vessel of its size. There is no wasted space and no compromises in comfort found on this go-anywhere-sized vessel. Winch Designs has rightfully deemed Project Sparta a “pocket mega-yacht.” 

The stepped aft deck houses a 6.5-meter Infinity pool, and the top sundeck features a bar and jacuzzi. An offset spiral staircase wraps around a glass elevator that connects all three decks. The lower deck is home to crew quarters and a wellness sanctuary that includes an oval jacuzzi, sauna, gym, and steam room.
