He finished his education at the University of Split as the officer of navigational watch on a ship of 500 GT or more and additionally attained the master of a ship up to 500 GT on near costal voyages and the yacht master certificate. Over the years, he has undergone continuous training and attained many professional certificates. His first employment was aboard of a container vessel sailing around world. In addition to being a captain, Filip is a ski instructor, football referee, and rafting instructor. He was the Croatian national representative in rafting and a silver medallist at the European championship. He is married with 1 child. Filip speaks Croatian and English NEMANJA SAVIC - CHEF A graduate of the Hotel Management School Serbia, Nemanja´s chef career started in the hotel Avala in Budva in 2007. From there he has worked for the most prestigious hotel brands in Serbia including a position of a head chef at the United States Embassy in Belgrade. He is a very versatile chef who does not dare to push the boundaries. He loves exploring the local markets in search for his ideas, he is very keen on promoting organic productions and encourages working with the local producers. On a recent charter, she surprised one of the guests with a handwritten local dish served on board recipe (that the guests loved so much) sealed with a locally grown Orchid, Marina would not just give them a recipe on a piece of paper! She loves surprising the guests with small details all the time. She speaks English and Spanish. MARIN JELIC - BARMAN Marin was born in Germany but his parents took him as a child back to Croatia to a small town of Stobrec where he spent his childhood. Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). The remainder of the APA is returned after charter.">Price Terms: Plus Expenses

Life is Good
FORGET EVERYTHING YOU KNEW ABOUT CROATIAN SHIP-BUILDING
Down here on the sun-kissed banks of the Adriatic we've been building yachts since the Venetians, the industry just went to sleep for a while. Now shipyards the length of the country have re-opened their doors with a flurry of activity, and the Croatian yachting landscape is changing forever.
Welcome to the new breed of luxury Croatian charter vessels 100% made at home: modern, stylish, and designed for maximum fun - always with hydraulic watersports platforms at the stern and full-length sun terraces on the top tier (the locals call them sundeck sailers).
SIZE MATTERS
But not all these newcomers are made equal. We present Life Is Good, the latest and largest in the modern style, only completed in 2022. Instantly recognizable with her unique brushed-steel grey hull, she easily dwarfs her peers with her unmatched 40M alloy composite mast and 200M sq of competition rigging, the largest in the Adriatic at a full 15M taller than her nearest rival. She is also one of the few to boast a full ocean-going international ship's licence. This is the one the boat owners talk about in the bistros.
This eco-yacht is built with the latest technology and lifestyle features. Her 250M sq of living space starts with a generous salon featuring an integrated bar and island buffet with retractable flatscreens. Interior styling is provided by the renowned Interijeri and Ximar.
ALL OUR CABINS ARE VIP
A great private charter in Croatia for 14 guests. Below deck you will find 4 super-sized walk-around doubles with en-suite, 2 convertible to twin, book-ended by 2 full beam master staterooms with en-suite and walk-in closets. There is also a nanny cabin (7th cabin) on the top deck behind the pilot station (available whilst 14 guests onboard only). Fast Wi-Fi and 24hr a/c come as standard, as do an experienced crew of 8 who will know what you need before you do.
THE TIME IS NOW
Reserve your week on this ultra modern private yacht with top-deck sun lounge, jacuzzi and outdoor wet bar. Ready for your family and friends to fill with memories. We've a trunk full of watertoys and an award-winning chef who will fight for your attention.
When you're on the boat you'll be speechless. When you get home you'll be a storyteller.
Life really is Good.

" The boat was great. Crew was great. Captain was really terrific and nice. Wine tasting organized by the crew was awesome. The Croatian wines were terrific and prior to the trip we knew nothing. By end of the trip, we knew exactly what we wanted and what we liked. " Mrs Wadhwani, July 2023 " The clients had a fantastic charter with Captain Filipe and his crew, they said the yacht was amazing " Jack, Aug 2023
" Our experience on the Life is Good was beyond our expectations. The crew took my husband and the kids for a fishing trip where Mike and the kids caught a 5kg fish that was made to a delicious fish stew, our whole charter was full of experiences like this, Captain Filip and his crew are superb. Highly recommended for those looking to experience Croatia from a different angle " Mike, Aug 2023
Mrs Di only had good things to say about her charter on board. She mentioned that the crew and especially Captain Filip was a delight to work with, and she extends her gratitude to his kindness throughout the charter. She did not have any negative points at all and in fact spent the whole phone call discussing how great of a charter it was and how she would look into doing it again next summer with friends. The food was fantastic and he did a great job catering to their extremely detailed preferences. It is always nice to hear great feedback from clients, so thank you very much to you and the crew of Life is Good to helping me making this charter unforgettable for her and her family! :) Di, Aug 2023

10 Best Sailboat Brands (And Why)
Last Updated by
Daniel Wade
December 20, 2023
There's no denying that sailors are certainly a passionate bunch. We’re so passionate about our boats that we always try going for the best sailboats. To make it a lot easier for you, here are the best sailboat brands.
Owning a sailboat is an indulgence that many of us only dream about but very few ever have the privilege of sailing the seas in what they can actually call their own.
While there's nothing wrong with renting a sailboat, the honor of owning one is certain what many sailors dream of.
With a perfectly crafted sailboat as company, gliding through the water, waves, and wind brings some sort of unmatched comfort and peace.
Add this to the fact that sailing takes you far away from the daily hustles and bustles that we've become accustomed to in our daily lives and you'll see why the life of sailing is very appealing to the masses.
But without a proper sailboat, all this fun and the good life of sailing are thrown out of the window.
Contrary to the widespread opinion, owning a sailboat isn't beyond anyone's reach. It's something that we can all achieve. But before getting into that, it's important to know some of the best sailboat brands.
The best sailboat brands will make your life as a sailor a lot easier and more fun. The best sailboat brands have, for decades if not centuries, mastered the art of woodworking. They've dedicated their skills and immense amount of their time to designing and manufacturing nothing but the best quality of sailboats in the industry.
So if you've been looking for the best sailboat brands from all over the world, you've come to the right place. We'll discuss the best of the best, something that will give you a perfect getaway from your normal life.
Table of contents
Must-Have Features for Your Sailboat
Before highlighting the best sailboat brands, it would be appropriate to jog your mind a little with some of the features that must be available in your sailboat.
Choosing a sailboat can sometimes be a matter of compromises. In other words, it's sometimes sensible to accept that a sailboat cannot have all the features that you desire.
As such, it's all about going with a sailboat that has the features that matter to you most.
For this reason, let's look at the most basic features that can make the difference in both safety and comfort while improving your sailing experience.
A Safe and Comfortable Sailing Cockpit
You'll most definitely be spending a huge amount of time in the cockpit. Whether you're keeping watch, trimming sails , helming, or just enjoying the scenery, there's no better place to do all these than from the cockpit. That being said, a good cockpit should have the following.
- Have a good depth for safety reasons and adequate drainage
- Should give you a quick and easy access to jammers, cleats, and other important parts of the winch system
- Should have a seat or seats that are about 35 cm high, 50 to 55 cm wide to provide ideal support
- The seats should be adjustable to offer maximum comfort and allow you to change your position
GPS Chartplotter
Use a GPS Chartplotter once and your sailing will never be the same without it. It not only allows you to map a course but is also a great way of ensuring that your sailboat exactly follows that course. It also gives you constant updates on ocean conditions, weather conditions , and potential hazards such as deadly currents and sandbars.
A GPS Chartplotter is also an important safety device that can help you in some very critical situations while out there on the water.
For instance, it has a man-overboard button that is essentially meant to allow you to receive coordinates of the exact location should someone fall off your boat.
Electric Winch System
This is an amazing addition to any sailboat. It allows you to sheet a jib even in high and strong winds with a simple press of a button. It also gives you the chance of trimming a mainsail easily while still carry out other essential tasks in the sailboat.
An electric winch system can be of great importance, especially if you're short on crew. This is because it can free up some crew members to carry other important tasks. In other words, it can make duties that would otherwise require more crew members a lot easier.
More importantly, an electric winch system can maintain safety even in the roughest of conditions, thereby preventing you and your crew from getting injured. In essence, an electric winch system will make your sailing a lot safer, less stressful, and more enjoyable.
Reverse Osmosis Watermaker
This is a very valuable accessory, especially if you're going on long sea voyages. You can spend days on end without drinking clean and safe water.
As the name suggests, you can use this accessory to turn seawater into purified drinking water. It uses the reverse osmosis method that's essential not only in removing bacteria and parasites from the water but also in turning the water into purified and safe drinking water.
Even though this device is pricey, it's a great way to mitigate the over-reliance on huge water tanks. All you have to do is to ensure that it's properly maintained and you'll have an endless streak of safe drinking water no matter where you are.
Wide and Clutter-free Deck
While the deck is often an overlooked feature of a sailboat, it can be the difference between a great sailing experience and a stressful one. In essence, the deck of a sailboat should be wide enough and clutter-free.
This is significant as it can enable you to quickly access different parts of your sailboat with hindrance or getting tangled. As you can see, this is particularly important in improving safety and reducing stress.
With that in mind, make sure that the deck is organized in such a way that you can have easy access to sails, masts, and winches.
You should, therefore, avoid sailboats with decks that are designed in such a way that you have to climb on top of the cabin just to access these features. Needless to say, this can be quite unstable and very dangerous especially when conditions are rough.
The Best Sailboat Brands and Why
1. hallberg-rassy.
Hallberg-Rassy is a Swedish yacht maker that's very well-known in the blue water cruising circles for making some of the highest quality and sturdiest sailboats. For many sailors, this is the number one sailboat brand as it offers absolute comfort, utmost safety, and good and easy handling.
This brand is not only synonymous with sturdy construction but you won't worry getting soaking wet while out there on the water. This is because it has a well-protected deck and cockpit, finished with nice woodwork, and has a powerful engine with a big tankage just to ensure that you can go on long voyages.
When designing its sailboats, this brand has made it a norm to add some features that stand out from the rest. For instance, the bowsprit is an integral feature that makes sailing a Hallberg-Rassy quite easy and much enjoyable. This is because it grants easy access to and from the deck. Its electric anchor winches facilitate smooth maneuvering. Even more, its large steering wheels makes it much easier to control the boat even in the roughest of conditions. In essence, this brand has features that provide good control and an extra sense of safety.
Although this brand has evolved over the years, you'll easily recognize it even from a distance. And why is this? A Hallberg-Rassy never goes out of style. This is a unique sailboat brand that has always stayed true to its principles and concept. No matter which part of the world you go, Hallberg-Rassy will remain the undisputed king of blue water cruising.
2. Nautor's Swan
For over 50 years, Nautor's Swan has endlessly raised the sailing levels by designing and manufacturing new sailboat models that not only push the boundaries but also meet that many requirements and demands of sailors across the world. Based in Jakobstad, Finland, this brand has severally set the industry standard with its speedy and sleek models such as the Swan 48, Swan 65, Swan 98, Swan 78, and Swan 120. These models have one thing in common: they never compromise on safety. As a brand that puts safety first, it ensures that its models are made of foam-cored glass fiber and reinforced both with carbon-fiber and epoxy. In essence, Nautor's Swan is widely revered for its unmatched seafaring and safety records.
Additionally, Nautor's Swan models are incredibly responsive. You can easily tell this just by the feel of the wheel. This brand has models that will gracefully slice through the biggest of waves with ease. That's not all; the interior of these models that are very comfortable even when the going gets tough. This is, without a doubt, a brand that strives to create self-contained worlds with each model.

This is a brand that will serve you just right across all latitudes and in all circumstances. Another feature that sets racing yachts apart is their hydrodynamic hull design. These yachts are built with a sharp bow, a narrow beam and a long waterline, which helps them to cut through the water more efficiently and reach higher speeds. They also tend to have a deep keel, which provides them with more stability and helps them to perform better in strong winds and rough seas.
Racing yachts also often have a more modern sail plan, with larger and more powerful sails that allow them to reach higher speeds and perform better in racing conditions. They also often have a smaller interior to keep weight down, which can make them less comfortable for overnight stays.
Racing yachts are popular among sailors who want to participate in competitive sailing events and races. They are also popular among sailors who want to experience the thrill of sailing at high speeds and pushing the limits of performance. However, it’s important to keep in mind that racing yachts are not as comfortable for long cruises as other types of sailing yachts and they can be expensive to maintain.

A catamaran is a type of sailing yacht that has two parallel hulls, rather than one. They are known for their stability and spaciousness, making them popular for longer trips, live-aboard cruising, and charter vacations.
One of the key features of catamarans is their stability. With two hulls, the boat has a lower center of gravity and a wider beam, which makes them less likely to tip over in rough seas. This makes them a comfortable and safe option for longer trips and live-aboard cruising.

This makes them ideal for bigger groups of people or for longer trips. They also usually have a larger cockpit, which provides more space for relaxing and entertaining.
Catamarans also often have a more shallow draft than monohulls, which allows them to navigate shallow waters, and anchor in more secluded bays. This can open up new opportunities for cruising, especially in areas where monohulls can’t access.

A trimaran is a type of sailing yacht that has three hulls, two smaller amas (outrigger hulls) and a central main hull, rather than one. They are known for their speed and stability, and are often used for racing and long-distance cruising.

With their speed, stability, and shallow draft, trimarans are designed to provide a comfortable and safe sailing experience while reaching high speeds and performing well in racing conditions.
Pros and Cons of Trimaran
Trimarans have several advantages over monohull boats:
- Faster: Trimarans have a wider beam (the width of the boat) than monohulls, which gives them more stability and allows them to sail faster.
- Shallower draft: Because the majority of the weight is on the main hull, trimarans have a shallower draft (the depth of the boat in the water) than monohulls, which allows them to navigate in shallower waters.
- More space: Trimarans have more space on deck and inside the boat, which makes them more comfortable for longer trips.
- Less comfortable in rough seas: Trimarans can be less comfortable in rough seas because the smaller hulls can be affected by the waves.
- More difficult to handle: Trimarans can be more difficult to handle than monohulls because they have a larger sail area and a wider beam.
- More expensive: Trimarans are generally more expensive to build and maintain than monohulls.
In summary, Trimarans are faster, more stable, and have more space, but they can be less comfortable in rough seas and are more difficult to handle. They are also more expensive than monohulls.

'Access to hidden-gem ports': Why this luxury yacht is the best option for beach lovers
“This is your yacht, to do with as you please,” Captain Rob O’Leary told guests of the Emerald Sakara , the second luxury superyacht from Emerald Cruises. “We have an international crew from 21 different nations, and we are all here for you.”
I was on the maiden voyage of the 360-foot Sakara, a December 2023 sailing with the added glamor of a Champagne christening in San Juan, Puerto Rico, led by the ship’s godmother, Kelly Craighead. She is president of Cruise Lines International Association, the industry’s leading trade organization.
“Sakara” is a Sanskrit word meaning “thoughts become things” – a fitting name, given the thought that went into the ship’s chic design. And our itinerary for the week couldn’t be more yacht-like – an island-hopping experience in the West Indies, stopping in out-of-the-way ports that larger cruise ships can’t manage. And while some smaller boats can feel rocky, the Sakara’s stabilizers keep the ship on an even keel.
Are luxury cruise ships worth the money? We did the math for Silversea's Silver Nova.
With just 100 guests and 76 crew, the Sakara is part of the larger trend in cruising: smaller ships that cater to vacationers who want the style and feel of a yacht, and the intimate service that accompanies that, with the amenities of a larger ship. Craighead said small-ship cruises offer “luxury at a great value, access to hidden-gem ports and unique features like marinas for water activities directly off the ship. These small ships can even be chartered for your own amazing, private yacht experience.”
After departing from San Juan, the Sakara reached the Puerto Rican island of Culebra in a few hours, just 20 miles off the coast. We hopped in a taxi van at the port to reach the pristine waters of Flamenco Beach, which consistently makes the world’s top 10 lists. It was a fall-asleep-on-the-sand kind of day, under brightly colored umbrellas, with multiple trips to the canteen for french fries.
“I hope you enjoyed Culebra today because it’s quite hard to get in, through a very narrow channel,” O’Leary said at a supper-hour briefing.
The next day, we stopped at the nearby island of Vieques, which is filled with wild horses – about 2,000 of them – most of which are fully accustomed to the photo op. We docked at Esperanza Bay and wandered the waterfront. Jeeps or ATVs were available to rent for those who wanted to beach-hop, but we settled into the sand at Sun Bay. And when we sailed into Cruz Bay on the U.S. Virgin Island of St. John the next day, there were yachts and catamarans everywhere – and the Sakara fit right in.
The crew outdid itself the next day at White Bay Beach on Jost Van Dyke, the smallest of the British Virgin Islands. A barbecue feast awaited us, along with beach loungers, steel drum entertainment, and all the paddles and water toys from the ship. Later, we wandered down the beach to find a young yacht crowd, groups of friends who have rented their boats, all knee-deep in their mojitos.
“I get a real kick out of driving the Emerald Sakara into St. Barths, muscling in and anchoring next to all the other superyachts,” O’Leary said. “It looks good in the pictures.” A stop there brought a snorkeling excursion, a bit of high-end shopping and a few rosé-soaked hours on Plage de Saline.
Back on board, the creature comforts of the Sakara included plenty of outdoor space to connect with the ocean, a small infinity pool, a full-service spa and a large, elegant dining room and terrace. It’s all part of the cushy yacht lifestyle.
The ship will spend the summer and fall cruising the Mediterranean Sea – heading for the French and Italian rivieras, Croatia and Greece – with eight-day itineraries from $5,100. The Emerald Sakara will be back in the Caribbean next December, with eight-day cruises starting at $4,100.

Royal Huisman Is Building the World’s Tallest Sailing Yacht
Royal Huisman is vying to make marine history.
The Dutch yard is building what it says will become the tallest sailing yacht on the high seas. Known as Project 411 or Noir, the record-setting 264-footer will be fitted with a sloop rig that will tower 305 feet high. After launch, the vessel will eclipse the 417-foot Koru as the world’s tallest sailer. (For comparison’s sake, Koru has three masts that reportedly span between 213 and 280 feet.) Noir will also become one of the longest sailing yachts on the water.

This 29-Year-Old Is the First American Woman to Sail Around the World Solo and Nonstop
“I am pleased and humbled that we can highlight Royal Huisman’s 140th year of operation with the announcement of such a significant project,” the yard’s CEO Jan Timmerman said in a statement. “Of the hundreds of vessels our shipyard has delivered in its history, Project 411 will be our fourth yacht in the ranks of the world’s Top 10 largest sailing yachts.”
British naval architect Malcolm McKeon designed Noir for an experienced yachtsman who wants to sail the globe with his loved ones and closest friends. The performance sloop will showcase the Brit’s signature contemporary styling, with a reverse bow for maximum waterline length and a sleek hull for effortless cruising. The vessel will also feature expanses of glass and folding platforms to connect guests with the sea and a flybridge for alfresco entertaining.
Speed, power, and responsive handling were also part of the owner’s brief. As a result, Noir will built entirely from aluminum to reduce weight and increase speed. The yacht will also be equipped with electric drives that provide additional power as needed. The folks at Dutch outfit Rondal will supply the mast, boom, and integrated sailing system. All the deck gear will be black, hence the nickname Noir. The sloop will also be large enough to accommodate a 45-foot tender.
Spanish firm GCA Architects will spearhead the interior design of Noir. Details are rather scant, but designer Josep Juanpere Miret says the living quarters will complement the yacht’s modern exterior. Miret adds that a mix of natural materials and textures will create a “relaxed yet luxurious atmosphere.”
Royal Huisman didn’t share a delivery date for Project 411, but a yacht of such proportions will surely take a couple of years to come to fruition. Koru took over two years to build, for example.
