The Unified Corribee Website

Thinking of buying.

The For Sale page usually has a good selection of Corribees available, and we also maintain expired adverts so that buyers can get a better idea of the market, and inspect the photos to spot the differences between the various models.

Occasionally we get an advert for a Corribee that is clearly a really good prospect for purchase – a fair price along with photos that show a well-maintained little ship that is ready to sail away. Of course, we don’t think there is such a thing as a bad Corribee, as even those that have seen better days are easy to bring back up to scratch with some DIY restoration. Others don’t need any work at all though, such as the latest example, Dolce, on our For Sale page. Take a look and you’ll see for yourself.

Guy has updated his blog with details of his return voyage, and all 32 of his videos are on Youtube: Return of the Corribee Betsy (part 1)

An update from Guy Waites, who you may remember completed a transatlantic crossing last year in Betsy:

Hello from Newport Rhode Island, Betsy and I are preparing to make our return home. The weather here is pretty awful but is forecast to improve from Monday onwards. Planning to set sail on Tuesday, the forecast looks good for the whole week. I will be using the same Delorme tracking device for the return. All the best, Guy and Betsy

Guy’s blog is at  http://worldwidewaites.blogspot.co.uk  , although it looks as though he hasn’t had a chance to update it recently. However, you can follow his progress by taking a look at the tracking chart here  https://share.delorme.com/GuyWaites

Update 7th July 2017 – Guy made it to Plymouth on the 28th June, and is currently sailing along the South coast (at Eastbourne on the 7th July). On the 4th July he wrote:

“Betsy and I are sailing two handed with OSTAR veteran Kass Schmitt from ZEST as we sail to Eastbourne to meet a past sailing companion Paul Wells!”

Update 17th July 2017 – back at Scarborough!

GuyWaitesatlantic_201707

A further update , 22 July 2017 – Betsy is looking for a new owner . Editors note – Betsy found a new owner, August 2017). Anyone who has read Guy’s blog will already know the extent of the refit that Betsy underwent in preparation for the return Transatlantic trip. Guy’s eastward trip is covered by a comprehensive series of videos on his  Youtube channel  – well worth a look. And for anyone contemplating some offshore sailing head to this page .

It’s cheaper to share..

wagtail-sunset-900x636

Pictured above is Wagtail, newly refurbished and lying at Hythe Sailing Club, Southampton. For anyone wishing to sail a Corribee, a boat share is an established and sensible form of syndicate ownership. Hythe is on Southampton Water, and offers sheltered sailing and easy access to a large number of creeks and harbours in the Solent and nearby Poole, Weymouth etc. Check the For Sale page for more details.

If you’re looking for a Corribee with a proven track record, there are currently two excellent examples on the For Sale and Wanted page. Elektra completed the solo circumnavigation of the UK with Katie Miller at the helm in 2006, and has recently had a refit. British Heart crossed the Atlantic in 1978, also a solo voyage skippered by James Hatfield.

On the topic of Atlantic crossings, Guy Waites’ blog is one to catch up on – he completed his Atlantic crossing in Betsy in late August 2016. His blog is a fascinating read, and the page also has some YouTube video links.

2016 Jester Azores Challenge

This years Jester Challenge start off western end of Plymouth Breakwater at 1200 noon BST (TBC) on Sunday 15th May 2016. The event is somewhat unique, in that it is not a race, there are very few rules and the entrants participate purely for their own satisfaction. Starting from Plymouth, the course finishes in the Azores at Praia de Vitoria, Terceira.

Two of those heading to the Azores this year are Steve Hickey in Newlyn Maid, a junk-rigged Coromandel, and Guy Waites in Betsy, a Corribee. Although not an official entrant this year, he aims to start a couple of weeks later than the others. He has documented the preparations on his blog, http://worldwidewaites.blogspot.co.uk  – there is a wealth of useful information on modifying, restoring and strengthening the hull of the Corribee.

For the latest information about this years challenge, as well as all the history and background visit the Jester website .

THenderson_destiny10_201604

Just added to our For Sale page is Destiny – absolutely ready to sail away and in excellent condition. Obviously Destiny has been well-maintained, with some desirable extras such as Furlex furling gear and a nice Honda outboard engine, along with a comprehensive electronics inventory. For more photos and a complete description click here .

Update May 2016 – Destiny sold within a few days of this advert appearing.

Happy (8th) Birthday to us

The Corribee Website went live eight years ago on March the 7th. A big thank you to all those who have helped with administration, contributing editorial material, sending donations and. of course, to our readership who make it all worth while.

More cheap sailing….

Wagtail02_NReid_20140301

I think this is the first advert we have posted for a share in a Corribee. An ideal way to get into sailing, Wagtail is clearly a well maintained Corribee, ready to sail and with a mooring and sailing club facilities already sorted for you. For more details head over to the For Sale page.

Cheap sailing…

mk1_DPryceJones1_201411

As you can see, it needs a bit of work – maybe an understatement, but at only £99 this has to be a bargain for someone prepared for some work. A big advantage is that it has the stern tube and P bracket fitted, so an inboard engine could be fitted (it may have been originally fitted with a BMW D7 engine). Judging by the framework shown in the photo it has probably been stored under a cover. More details here .

A cheap way into offshore sailing, this is boat for which the phrase ‘a proper little yacht’ was coined. Slim and elegant with long overhangs, she is an excellent sea-boat for her length and very popular. She has several Atlantic crossings under her belt, not to mention the round-Britain voyages that launched the careers of professional racers Dame Ellen MacArthur and Katie Miller. Her hull, drawn by Robert Tucker, is rather narrow, which restricts the available space below decks, but the builders managed to squeeze in four berths, a galley and a chart table (with a chemical toilet underneath it). She was fast for her time and reasonably well built. The MkII version has better headroom and an encapsulated iron keel.

LOA 6.32m (2lft 9in), LWL 4.88m (16ft), beam 2.08m (6ft 10in), draught 0.97m (3ft 2in), displacement 908kg (2,0001b). Price guide: £1,500 to £5,000 YM Test Report November 1968.

Broker's Comments

The Corribee yachts have enjoyed a resurgence recently as being the chosen yacht to launch the career of a handful of young sailors around the UK.

This particular example is the bilge keeled version giving reasonable sailing performance, but also allowing her to dryout safely at the head of creeks and harbours.

She has suffered some neglect over recent years but all could be remedied. The majority of the work needed just involves enthusiasm and elbow grease, though there are a couple of jobs which would need someone who is a little handy. A Selden Furlex has been fitted in 1999

Construction

The first Corribee was designed by Robert Tucker in 1964. Around 10 wooden Corribees were clinker built before production moved to the fibreglass Mk1 . There are a number of different Corribee Mks – clinker Mk1 then fiberglass Mk1, Mk2 and Mk3. I believe this example to be a late MK2 or possibly a early MK3, there was very little difference between them, the owner was told when he purchased the boat that the hull was built in 1982 and she was commissioned in 1984. The late Mk 2/Mk 3 has a slightly altered deck with an increased rake to the side decks in way of the cockpit – this eliminates the standing puddle to be found on earlier boats. The lazarette hatch is wider and there is an anchor locker on the fore deck. Below the waterline there is a lot of difference; the hallmark of these later boats is the asymmetric bilge keel (there seem to be very few fin keeled late Mk 2s & 3s). The asymmetric keel is of aerofoil section (shaped like an aeroplane wing) and the intention is to increase lift to windward.

Accommodation

This vessel has two full length quarter berths and two full length berths forward with a sea toilet located underneath. The galley is located centrally to port and adequate storage is provided below for food and utensils.

Broker's comments.

These boat details are subject to contract. How can such a little boats be so famous? It is amazing the amount that has been written about these ocean going – yes ocean going – yachtlets! Everybody who is anybody in the watery world seems to have sailed one around Britain, in fact I think there is queue nowadays, Why? What have they got? What makes them so special? Well when you first see them up close the very first thought is “what a pretty little boat!! The second thought is “what a sturdy, tough looking little boat!” Once aboard, you feel like you are on a much bigger boat – the cockpit is a good size, deep and safe, and looking below the cabin looks pretty roomy. OK, then you realise there is not much headroom and no fridge, microwave or dishwasher, but you still can’t help feeling safe and snug. A friendly little boat – I certainly felt at home aboard! Note: Offers on the asking price may be considered.

Broker's Comments

This Corribee 21 Mk2 has like many been kitted out for club racing. It has a great set of sails the Main and Genoa were made by Jeckells in 2012. It does not have an outboard but the bracket is there; the current owner has used it for club racing straight off a mooring so there was no need to weigh it down with an outboard! It looks good externally, admittedly the interior needs some attention, we think it's really great value - just take a look through the details and photographs in our listing above.

Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

2024 Author : Harold Hamphrey | [email protected] . Last modified: 2023-12-17 10:06

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

attractions elektrostal photo

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

You can learn about the sights of Elektrostal with descriptions and photos here. There are places for walking, outdoor activities and cultural development.

sights of the electric steel of the Moscow region

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrostal attractions photo with description

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Elektrostal attractions

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

attractions of the city of Elektrostal

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Elektrostal attractions

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.

Broker's Comments

A good example of the popular bilge keel family cruiser. The Corribee class has a large fan club including Dame Ellen Macarthur who conducted a solo navigation of the UK when she was only 18 in a Corribee! Ideal for estuary and coastal sailing, this boat felt solid and dry when I was onboard. She has all the basics, but with a little updating of the navigation equipment and some attention to headlinings she will serve the new owner well. These boat details are subject to contract.
