Table of Contents
Designed in 1936, the International One Design is a long and narrow boat, with beautiful lines and traditional overhangs. The Class’ strong one design commitment, sails, hulls, masts, booms, rig geometry, etc., are virtually identical between boats. This keeps costs of ownership low and makes racing extremely competitive. The tall, powerful sail plan is perfectly balanced by a full displacement keel making the boat a delight to race and day sail.

Wooden ships comments on this International One Design (IOD)
Designed and built by Bjarne Aas in Norway, 1958. Hull No. 440
The International One-Design Class was conceived to build, maintain and race a fleet of “One-Design yachts, distinctive in appearance and performance, using one-design racing in order to develop the competitive capacities of both helmsmen and crews under the fairest and most equal conditions.”
The design of the International One-Design was inspired by a Six Metre created by the famous Norwegian architect and builder Bjarne Aas, in 1935. Cornelius Shields, Sr., impressed by her beauty and handling qualities when he saw one sailing in Bermuda, initiated action for an entire Class similar in design and appearance to the 6m but with a loftier rig, a short shelter and a storage cabin. Aas submitted plans and specifications in 1936 and a syndicate was formed. In late 1936, twenty-five International One-Design yachts were delivered from Norway and commenced racing on Long Island Sound. Since that time, other fleets have formed in Norway, the UK, Bermuda, Canada and the United States.
With 12 fleets in 5 countries and over 150 yachts actively racing, the International One Design was the first class to be recognized by ISAF as a “Classic” One Design Class.
Prior to the Second World War The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club in Burnham on Crouch was the premier location for one design racing in England. In particular during the thirties it was the centre of 6 metre racing, attracting helmsmen from all parts of the world. As 6 metre racing became more intense at national and international level, so the costs escalated.
‘Tiny Mitchell’, then Commodore of the Corinthian, a post he held with distinction from 1931 to 1952, was well aware of the limitations that participating imposed and he did much to encourage the less costly racing classes such as the Dragon. Through his close association with the 6 metre class he was well informed on the origins of the IOD and recognised its undoubted potential. In 1938 he purchased Bombero and this was sailed by his son E.B.N. (Budd) Mitchell, later to own Tadpole. In order to encourage the class Bombero was sold to John Mould in 1939 and the Mitchell family took delivery of Nauta. Margaret, built in 1938, was brought to Burnham in 1939 and joined the fourth member of the class Flirt, owned by C Peto Bennet. These four boats formed the nucleus of the Burnham fleet and raced regularly as a class in 1939.
The Second World War and its aftermath were nearly fatal for the IOD class. During the war, legend says that Aas buried the construction jigs to protect them during the Nazi occupation. Everywhere the yachts were laid up and the materials used in the ‘golden era’ of wood, iron and mild steel were savaged by neglect.
Post War, the ‘Yachting Monthly’ (March 1949) carried an article on the International One Design and suggested that C Peto Bennet was planning to build IODS in the UK, by arrangement with Bjarne Aas. In fact this did not happen. The article goes on to praise the sea worthiness of the boat in the hardest of weathers as proved at the Hanko Regatta of 1947.
This and the opening of The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club at Cowes encouraged the Burnham boats to move south leading to a full IOD class racing on the Solent. The class now started to generate more interest and throughout the ‘50’s new boats were added to the fleet on a regular basis.
By 1973 most of the fleet had moved to the Royal Forth Yacht Club (RFYC) totalling 13 boats, 11 purchased from the Solent and 2, Arrow and Wahoo, from the Channel Islands. There followed a period of active and very competitive racing, with the fleet taking part in the IOD Worlds for the first time in 1974 at Larchmont, USA and hosting the Worlds on the Forth in 1975, 1979, 1984, 1990 and 1998.
From 1984, boats started to move west to the Clyde where there was a nucleus of three boats, Mirenda, Wildgoose and Starlight . The Worlds were held for the first time at the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club in 1990 with the reduced Forth fleet transported to the Clyde and 1995 saw the complete transition of the IOD fleet to the Royal Northern & Clyde Yacht Club (RNCYC) at Rhu.
International One Designs have added colour and competitiveness to yacht racing wherever they have been based in the UK. In recent years the Clyde fleet dispersed and a small fleet collected in St Mawes, Cornwall though now also slowly dispersing.
While these boats have been raced competitively for many years, they are also wonderful day sailers even in unsheltered waters and it is this feature of the design which makes them nowadays so attractive to many owners who prefer exciting pottering to competitive hard racing.
Planked in mahogany on laminated mahogany frames at approx 3’ centres with 2 x steamed oak intermediates. The planking is laid tight-seamed and screw fastened to both the heavier laminated frames and the steam bent timbers.
The planking is varnished on the inside and painted externally.
Straight-cut mahogany web floors on every second frame running forward of the mast up the stem ensure the strength of the long overhang in pounding conditions. Several similar floors up into the counter secure that area. Midships, several heavy section cross cut oak floors also carry the ballast keel bolts and give huge strength to the tight deep bilge and support to the ballast keel.
Most boats still have a pair of eye bolts in the midships bilge to take lifting straps which allowed them to be craned.
K18 was recently fitted with a new teak deck on a marine ply sub deck, beautifully laid to the varnished mahogany cover-boards in narrow and tapering scrubbed teak planks joggled in to a varnished mahogany cover-board.
In proper IOD design she has a teak grab rail either side of the fore deck almost back as far as the mast providing a toe-hold for the fore deck crew.
A very attractive feature of the IOD is the small cabin roof built with varnished mahogany coamings and a scrubbed teak deck also joggled to a varnished mahogany cover-board.
Two fixed lights each side in chromed bezels and one recessed fixed light in the fwd face of the coaming.
The cock-pit is deep with adequate space for the full race crew of 4. The fifth member is usually allocated his seat at the foot of the mast, port or stbd depending on which tack was being sailed.
Because K18 has been fitted with an engine she now has a full width bridge deck with a centre opening flap to sight the engine.
A sliding hatch and wash-boards close the cabin entrance.
Slatted side seats run aft from the bridge deck leaving the under side deck space open each side.
Slatted scrubbed hardwood cock-pit sole in sections which can be lifted to access the deep bilge well below allowing constant sight of any water in the bilge when racing.
Deep varnished mahogany coamings round the cock-pit give excellent protection and the crew sit in this boat, not on it and even in a strong breeze hiking out is generally not required or desireable.
The cock-pit is open right up into the counter giving total ventilation to this potentially vulnerable area.
The raked rudder stock emerges from it’s stock-tube part way up the counter below deck with a varnished ash tiller which can sweep the cock-pit side to side out under the side decks.
The fore deck carries a single centre-line chromed cleat to take the forward mooring line running over a single stemhead chromed roller fitting. A single chromed cleat on the aft deck takes the after line with a single chromed fairlead alongside the chromed ensign staff socket.
This is an exquisite and totally uncluttered, clear deck emphasising this yacht’s perfect clean lines.
Fractional bermudian sloop rig on a 2002 aluminium mast stepped through the main deck forward of the coach-roof onto the keel.
Pair of stainless steel tie rods each side from mast step to chain plates at the beam-shelf.
Single spreaders with jumpers above.
2002 stainless steel rigging with single lowers and cap shrouds each side to a stainless steel bar carried on a pair of stainless steel chain plates reaching internally down the topsides thus very adequately spreading the rig loads.
Single back-stay to the aft deck through to a turning pulley and set up to a 4-part tackle under the aft deck.
Fore stay incorporated into the head-sail roller reefing gear set back from the stemhead with under-deck roller drum. Rolling lanyard taken aft through the cabin bulkhead to the cock-pit so the headsail can be reefed or furled from the cock-pit.
Halyards, spinnaker lifts etc in mast with a winch at the foot of the mast in the cabin and a pair of jamming cleats.
Alloy boom sheeted to the aft deck on tufnol blocks with single tail lead into the cock-pit through the after coaming, stbd corner to a cleat on the inside of the stbd coaming.
Alloy slab reef boom with two internal reef pennants. Ram’s horns at the goose neck.
Headsail sheets through short athwartships tracks carrying lead blocks allows the clew to be moved in and out.
Boom topping lift.
Kicking strap on tackle.
A versatile rig which can be totally controlled and tuned from the cock-pit.
Pair of Anderson self tailing sheet winches on the cock-pit coamings
Lewmar 8 top action winch at the mast step.
2 x mainsails
Jib on under-deck roller furling gear.
Alloy spinnaker pole.
Mainsail cover
Yanmar 10hp single cylinder diesel engine on the centre-line with centre-line shaft to off-set folding prop.
Single lever engine controls stnd side of the cock-pit.
12v battery in the bridge deck locker to port of the engine.
Mooring warps
Cock-pit cover.

Described by Classic Boat as “the waterborne equivalent of a vintage Bentley”, by any standard the International One Design class - conceived in 1935 by Cornelius Shields and given life by Norwegian designer and master builder Bjarne Aas - has been a huge international success. By the class’s 75th anniversary, at least 235 of these beautiful thoroughbreds had been built with fleets in Norway, Sweden, UK, Bermuda, USA and Canada. WHISPER was the penultimate wooden IOD built by Bjarne Aas and spent most of her class racing life with the strong Scottish IOD fleet of the 1970s to 90s on the Firths of Forth and Clyde. In present ownership since 2012 WHISPER underwent a major refit at Suffolk Yacht Harbour and has been enjoyed as a successful handicap racer and weekend cruiser.
2022 - Replacement of 6 x timbers - Underbody stripped, primed and antifouled 2021 - Replacement of frames at bilge 2019 - Topsides re-varnished RESTORATION BY SUFFOLK YACHT HARBOUR - New deck - New carlins, some new deck beams, and covering boards - Some new laminated beams and replacement planks at starboard aft counter - Externally stripped and re-varnished - New Harken deck gear - New Andersen self tailing winches
Designed by Bjarne Aas in 1935 at the request of Cornelius “Corny” Shields Jr. - the legendary American racing yachtsman - as a slightly smaller, lighter displacement and more comfortable one-design version of the successful Bjarne Aas-designed and built 6-Meter, SAGA. The result is a beautiful reminder of yachting’s “golden age” with traditional metre-boat long overhangs, graceful sheer, deep, narrow hull, and lofty rig. Described by Classic Boat Magazine in 1990 as “the waterborne equivalent of a vintage Bentley”, the IODs were the first class to be awarded International Classic Yacht status by the International Yacht Racing Union (now World Sailing). Many of the great America's Cup skippers of previous years chose to race IODs, including Ted Hood, and Bus Mosbacher, Long Island’s IOD champion eight years in a row. IODs are used for the King Edward VII Gold Cup event in Bermuda, the oldest match racing event in the world; past winners include Russell Coutts, Chris Dickson, Ben Ainslie and James Spithill. IODs are actively raced in twelve local fleets in North America and Europe, representatives of which compete annually in a World Championship, the venue of which rotates around the fleets. IODs are also sailed in classic regattas, including Cannes Regates Royales and Les Voiles de Saint-Tropez Classic Regatta, and in the British Classic Yacht Club regatta at Cowes. While IODs can be raced competitively, they are also wonderful day-sailors even in less sheltered waters, and it is this, together with their graceful classic lines, which makes them so attractive to many owners who enjoy just sailing these thoroughbred yachts.
BJARNE AAS BUILD NO. 580 Believed to be the second last wooden IOD built by Bjarne Aas, WHISPER began her sailing life in Norway, then emigrated to Cowes named WHIFFENPOOF (sail number K7) in the ownership of Don McGowan - a mainstay of the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club's IOD fleet there since the mid 1950s with KYLA (K6). But these were the final days of the south coast of England IOD fleet and by the early 1970s most boats had flitted north to the Royal Forth Yacht Club at Granton, near Edinburgh - WHIFFENPOOF initially in the ownership of Bobby Brown and Paul Wise, then Bobby Brown and Marshall Napier. From the late 1980s into the early 90s the IOD Scottish fleet divided racing time between the Forth and the Clyde, with K7 racing on both Firths in Marshall Napier's ownership. She is believed participated in the IOD World Championships on the Forth in 1975 (Brown & Wise) and 1979 (Brown & Napier), and on the Clyde in 1990 (Napier), and in 1998 when owned by Gilmour Manuel. After the 1998 Worlds the Scottish fleet disbanded with some boats reforming a fleet at St. Mawes, Cornwall. But K7 moved further south to Jersey, renamed WHISPER by Bob Hassell. WHISPER's current owner brought her to Suffolk from Jersey in 2012 and she has subsequently been maintained by Suffolk Yacht Harbour - including the major refit described above. She's been a regular entrant and three time winner at SYH Classic Regatta. ©2023 Iain McAllister/ Sandeman Yacht Company Ltd.

Set Up and Sail
The V11 detailing is simple but effective. In conjunction with the V11 Set Up Guide, assembly is straight forward, and vital tuning information assists you to quickly understand and master your V11's potential
Vickers RC Sailing build processes are well refined and thought out.
Our boats are light, stiff and clever, keeping to a simple and effective philosophy around detailing
The V11 design is a hull, foils and bulb package to compliment the full range of conditions experienced in RC Sailing. The hull design has full volume forward and features the familiar chines and tumblehome of the modern IOM for reduced weight and windage, as well as good tracking characteristics. The V11 features our peaked style foredeck for efficient water shedding when buried downwind and a geometrically strong shape for the forestay and mast ram areas.
Foils are slippery and strategically positioned with the rig to balance the yacht. The V11s forgiving balance through the wind range, allows the skipper to focus on the race at hand, and not rely on micro steering to maintain a consistent VMG.
The rig sits solid on its deck stepped mast step, complimented at deck level with an encapsulating mast gate arrangement over the mast ram. The rudder tube is rigidly supported inside the moulded servo tray.
Hull construction is from E-Glass Fibreglass Cloth and High Grade Epoxy Resin.
The foils are Carbon Fibre Layup with High Grade Epoxy Resin.
Paint system is a 2 pot Urethane and the boat is thoroughly post cured before finishing.
The V11 Features-
Plastic main hatch access.
Ready to accept RMG Winch and Standard sized Rudder Servo
Bow Bumper attached.
Hardware is Bantock including an adjustable mast ram, adjustable mainsheet post and tiller arm.
All necessary fittings attached for standing and running rigging.

So hit the enquiry button to discuss delivery times and options.
We are ready to help.
Essential to success in sailing comes down to the Rig and how it is set up and tuned. The V11 comes with a Set Up Guide that covers all the expert information needed to set up like the guns. It specifies the hardware, construction and tuning information to get your rig and sails set up and sailing near optimum straight off the bat, so you can enjoy your racing and punch above your weight.
Include Sets of sails from Vickers RC Sailing and enhance the experience.

32m Alloy Yachts cruising sloop Irelanda joins market
Designed throughout by Hoek Design Naval Architects , the 31.9-metre Alloy Yachts sloop Irelanda is newly listed with joint central agents Dennis Frederiksen of Fraser and Will Bishop of Superyacht Partners.
Built in New Zealand in 1996 by Alloy Yachts, the aluminium cutter-rigged sailing yacht was refitted in 2021 in the UK at Pendennis . The pedigree yacht has had just two owners since new and was designed for safe world sailing.
Irelanda's upper saloon incorporates a dining table and navigation station, leading up to the central cockpit which can be configured with two dining tables or large sunpads, all shaded by a bimini. The snug lower saloon boasts ample inviting seating, port and starboard, plus a desk forward, the finish being mahogany panelling throughout giving a traditional "proper yacht" feel. Glass deck hatches and portholes in the coachroof provide natural light without giving the feeling of being exposed to the elements.
Accommodation is for an owner's party of six to eight in three cabins, comprising master stateroom aft and two twin cabins, each with an additional Pullman berth, immediately forward. There are generous quarters for a crew of four with galley and their own mess forward of the lower saloon.
With keel raised, Irelanda's draft is 3.5 metres allowing access to shallow anchorages. Under the single Lugger engine the 104GT yacht for sale has a maximum speed of 12.5 knots, cruising speed of 10 knots and economical speed of 8.5 knots. Range is 2,500 nautical miles at 10 knots. A tender garage is tucked away in the stern.
Irelanda is asking €3,650,000 with VAT paid and is on display at Palma International Boat Show.

catamarans over 50 feet for sale
Better sailing.
Best Catamarans Over 50 Feet
All kinds of high-end luxury sailing you could ever imagine can be experienced on Catamarans Over 50 Feet. It just depends on the boat at hand. Why spend your holiday cruising or liveaboard on a monohull when comfortable catamarans exist?
A catamaran is quite different from a regular monohull. Catamarans are typically designed with two equal-sized hulls and derive their stability from their wide beam; unlike a one-hulled boat deriving stability from a loaded undersurface.
The average catamaran is 38-47 feet in size. Usually, they are equipped with four large cabins with double or queen-sized beds, each cabin having an in-suite head. These vessels, originally designed for fishing, have, over the years, evolved and have become very popular in recent years. Lately, many boatbuilders are focusing more and more on building large catamarans over 50 feet as more and more people are starting to liveaboard and put more emphasis on comfort and luxury than their sailing performance.
In 2011, the biggest catamaran ever was built by Pendennis Shipyard in the UK, at 145 feet in length! It is equipped with a trampoline, a jacuzzi and can accommodate 12 guests in 5 cabins. This boat is designed to accommodate all the luxuries and adornments that can be found on a watercraft.
Here are the best sailing catamarans over 50 feet, in no particular order.

Back in 2019, the Lagoon 50 was awarded the best multihull of Sail Magazine. A product of the world’s largest boat manufacturer Lagoon, established in 1984, is majorly famous for the design and construction of cruising catamarans, which infuse top-notch designs, upscale comfort, and great sailing performances to one’s boating experience. Every detail is carefully thought out to establish novel and spacious architecture with a homely ambiance.
It’s a perfect balance between the model Lagoon 450 and the lofty 52. The Lagoon 50 has an encompassing view, generous volumes with a self-tacking jib, and a shorter mast for easily simplified maneuvers. It has two cockpits, one large one facing the sea and the other for seating at foredeck or on a deck chair. The hulls being large enough to contain more than 2 cabins, you can have up to six cabins. Italian agency Nauto Design Studio set a standard for their innovative interior designs every time. This vessel boasts of a unique brand signature, providing increased performance and a detailed wood finish to be fitted for the owner. Unconventional lines are linked with luxury, versatility, and a layout of technical options to cater to everyone’s needs.

Length: 52 Feet
Looking for something contemporary and luxurious? Lagoon 52 takes the cake in that way. This boat signified a new stage in the design of cruising catamarans. The Lagoon 52 is a product of the prolonged conversations between Lagoon’s customary VPLP, Nauto design agency, and the Lagoon design department. It comes in two versions: The Lagoon 52 FlyBridge, known as Lagoon 52F, and Lagoon 52 SporTop.
The combination of onboard comfort with its sailing performance is perfect and in sync. The wide side decks allow easy movement onboard. The cockpit and saloon also offer spacious living areas. The vertical bows of the boat have a diamond-shaped appearance with diagonal shaped hull and a lifting deck house.
The boat is easily accessible and safe thanks to the open rear skirts. Most of the features in this luxurious watercraft can be found in the aforementioned Lagoon 50. It has a perfect blend for its easy use, a comfy, elegant interior, amazing space, and lighting. You’re sure to get your money’s worth with the LAGOON 52.
Privilege Series 5
Price: Around $1-1.5 Million USD
At 50 feet, this boat is quite marvelous and a privilege to spend your time in as a cruiser or owner. The Privilège Series 5 is the world’s first 50 feet sailing catamaran. This vessel was built by Privilège Marine, a French company based in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France. They are famous for building premium luxury catamarans and designed by French Naval Architect Marc Lombard. The Privilège Series 5 is equipped with three or four double and a full-sized owner’s cabin located in the yacht’s center. It’s a lightweight boat at 48500 pounds and could go up to 52900 depending on the size.
It has great customization options, and it can be designed to suit the boat owner’s taste. The attention to detail on the boat is nothing short of perfection as the interior design, woodwork, safety measurements laid out by the boat’s design, aesthetics, ventilation, etc., was thought out good. The vessel’s finishing is really phenomenal as everything has a high level of craftsmanship.
Leopard 50L
Length: 50 Ft 6 In
Price: Around $1 Million USD
The Leopard 48, which was launched in 2012, was one of the most popular cruising cats ever designed. But the design was beginning to become dated, even as new orders kept coming in. So, Robertson & Caine, who build the Leopard cats, set out to improve on what was already great. The new 50 was their answer and comes with many innovations that will make owners happy. We test sailed the 50L last winter in Florida. The L version has the optional lounge on top of the hardtop over the cockpit. Unlike some cats with flying bridges and lounges up high, the 50L doesn’t feel like a layer wedding cake.
The steering station is a traditional raised helm to starboard, and the lounge is just up a few stairs from there. The helmsman is in contact with those in the main cockpit and those in the lounge. Out sailing, we got the 50L up to 10 knots in a good breeze, so the boat is fast. It is also commodious and will make a very comfortable home for a family or a charter party.

Length: 58 Feet
Price: From $450k To $1.5 Million on the Used Market
Leopard 58 is a superb layout from Leopard, skilfully modeled by award-winning designers Robertson & Caine. This extravagant catamaran is suited to the prolific and innovative catamarans that have made Leopard famous while still giving out fresh features and various design options.
This expansive FlyBridge takes space to a whole new dimension as it is larger than its siblings with their award-winning aspects. A Flybridge is basically a version of catamarans that affords you the luxury of outdoor space, come rain or shine. Leopard 58 is more about space, bragging about 750 square feet in just the saloon alone. It gives you amazing comfort and is naturally luminous. With an open plan layout, the galley available means the meal making and interaction will be easy. Highly recommended for a family outdoor gathering.
Price: Around $1 Million USD New ; Not many options on the used market since its a newer model
Popularly called the Seawind 52 because of its 52 feet size. The Seawind 52′ 1600 is designed by world-renowned architects Reichel Pugh. Like the Lagoon 52, it’s a perfect balance for onboard comfort and performance sailing and sea safety. Perfect for sailors or boat lovers who are looking for a little extra.
This catamaran sets a standard for offshore sailing because of its simple sailing methods, large open cockpit space, and twin protected helms. Equipped with a three or four-cabin design that affords the owner’s cabin expansive living space, great storage, high aspect riders, daggerboards, an elegant fit/finish, and infused carbon-reinforced construction.
Seawind 1600
Price: Around $1 Million USD New
The new Seawind 1600 has been in the works for a while and has finally arrived on the market. The Reichel Pugh design is a departure from the more conservative looks of the other Seawinds and embraces a very Euro-style with plumb bows, hard chines, a swept-back cabin, and a large open cockpit with helm stations on both sides. The boat is a pure performance cruiser that was conceived as a blue water voyaging boat for a family. At 52 feet, it falls within the size range that an experienced couple can handle, so it would make a great platform for a couple to explore the world. The 1600 like all of the Seawinds and Corsairs, are built in Vietnam.
Nautitech 542
Length: 54 Feet
Price: Around $1.2 Million USD New
Nautitech 542 is the typical example of offshore meeting first class. This boat has ideally tweaked fittings for smooth sailing under any circumstances. Furnished with a single wheel on its roof for perfect views of the boat and a comfy 2-person seat. The idea of this boat is mostly based on performance and quality. Asides from the positions of the helm, Nautitech 541 and 542 are very similar. Nautitech 542 is large and luxurious. The sail controls at the helm stations for easy sailing maneuvers and perfect for all weather conditions. The interior was designed by French designer Franck Darnet. Equipped with state of the art furniture and cabin experience, a sleek experience is assured.

Xquisite X5
Length: 51 Feet
Price: Around $1.5 Million USD
Once you have met your first Xquisite X5, you will never forget its absolute distinctive looks and almost space-traveling styling. The whole look of the boat, with its large reverse curving arches and cat’s eye windows, says right out loud that you need to pay attention. The boat itself is a very modern design with a classic and comfortable interior. It sails better than most of its peers in the 50-foot range and is set up cleverly so one watchstander can hand, reef, and steer all from the protected comfort of the raised steering station. Tomas and Sara, who build the boats in South Africa, are veteran cruisers and owned hull number one of the X5 line before taking over the company. Their attention to detail and the innovations they have incorporated into the boats all stem from their time living aboard and blue water sailing.
Privilege 615
Length: 61 Feet
Price: From $800k to $1.3 Million USD on the Used Market
When it comes to onboard luxury, Marc Lombard, who designed this catamaran, is an expert in that field. This lovely boat is in touch with the latest style, sporting a flybridge complete with two wheels and a broad sunbed suitable for the crew to relax the day away. The 615 is a combination of simplistic and superior design with an outstanding crew, results in the ultimate luxury Caribbean cruising experience. The impeccable elegance of the interior with a lavish owner’s suite and the boat’s perfect wood quality are two great reasons to make you get the boat. The freedom to choose a four or five-double cabin is another, depending on the size of the family.
Followed closely by its outstanding exterior, you’re sure to fall in love with it on sight, from the cockpit to the foredeck. With an impressive platform and lustrous profile, the Privilède 615 contradicts the volume and versatility of its interior. One wonders how they fit into the other, gives it a great ambiance.

Balance 526
Length: 52ft 6in
Price: From $1.3 to $1.6 Million USD New
Multihull impresario, dealer, and broker Phil Berman (The Multihull Company) has sold more multihulls over the last 30 years than just about anyone. His latest project has been the development of the Balance line of performance cruising cats. The queen of the line is the Balance 526 that was introduced a few years ago and has proven to be a very successful player in the 50-foot plus segment of the cat market. Built in South Africa by noted composite experts, the 526 offers a well-conceived combination of great sailing performance and luxury living in a boat that can be handled by an experienced couple.
The boat has plenty of innovations, among them a helm that can be tilted up so you can steer from the raised helm station or tilted down so you can steer from the protection of the cockpit. Very cool. The design does not take any particular element to the “extreme.” Instead, Berman and his crew have sought to provide a boat that is truly well balanced in all aspects. And, they’ve done it.

Modeled great agility to make even a single person handle any maneuver, its retractable high aspect ratio daggerboards assure a shallower drift giving access to the most remote of harbors.
When it comes to the interior, every Outremer model is trying to outdo the last in elegance, neatness, and modernity. She offers an unrestricted view and functional comfort. The port hull suite includes a king-sized bed, superb sea view portlight, an office, and a separate private entrance from the rear. It’s a semi-custom interior designed by VPLP in conjunction with Patrick le Quement. It won the ‘European Yacht of the Year’ and Cruising World’s ‘Boat of the Year’ in 2013 and 2014. Your team delivered on every mark. You’ve got an amazing broker in Mark Wattrus and I’m confident you will have continued success moving forward together. He was available 24/7 whenever I had questions. We had a great initial visit on the boat and his marketing plan and photos were superb
I bought a yacht that I had never seen. I did this because I trusted my broker Andrew Holland. It was not an easy job for Andrew, as I am an experienced boat builder and owner of previous yachts, but work in West Africa. Imagine how hard it was to communicate what I was looking for. Andrew came up with exactly what I wanted. He dealt with time delays, all my questions at odd hours, and was there for the survey. He reported honestly and professionally. After buying the yacht, I arrived at the boat on a Sunday night, after dark, after travelling from West Africa to the Caribbean, and found it was better than expected. He never pulled punches and made me aware of shortfalls. I expected to spend my one month leave working on the boat, but actually spent less than one week, and was able to spend 3 weeks sailing – wonderful bonus.
Thank you Andrew for putting up with all my questions, all my worries and all my crazy out of the time zone concerns – you were totally professional, but also I know that if and when we meet up, it will be like a friend finally meeting. You are always welcome on Aseka.
— Beverly Cory
Outstanding company with professional subject matter experts. If I were to buy or sell cruising sailboat, particularly a catamaran, Andrew would be my go to broker.
I have been sailing since I was a child and attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy. But when my wife and I began the process of purchasing an ocean cruising/racing catamaran, I realized that this is a world unto itself. Obviously, we needed to find someone knowledgeable to help us make an informed decision. More importantly, we needed someone honest and willing to put our interests before his or her own. I was lucky to work with Phil Berman at The Multihull Company. He repeatedly shunned the fast buck, choosing instead to work the long road to connect us with the “perfect boat”. I would be glad to recommend Phil and his company to anyone planning to purchase or sell a performance sailing machine.
— Eric Boutiette
Andrew Hodgdon was our broker when we bought our 2018 Lagoon 450F in Antigua in April 2922. He provided great service and was very attentive to our needs. We would highly recommend Andrew and the Multihull Company.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported
B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.
Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.
Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.
Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.
Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.
The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.
Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."
More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.
Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.
The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."
The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.
On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.
The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.
There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
