Yacht Rockstar Damaged in Crash

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating yesterday’s collision that damaged the arch and perhaps parts of the superstructure atop the 161-foot Trinity Rockstar (ex- Blind Date ) at the Broad Causeway drawbridge in South Florida.

“The engineers are working under the assumption that the hydraulic system on the bridge failed, and the west side of the bridge started to come down as the yacht was coming through,” said Jorge Pino, spokesman for the FFWCC, which is responsible for investigating collisions involving private vessels on public waterways. “The yacht did nothing wrong. It was not under power. It was under the control of two tugboats, and they were in the right. They were making right decisions. All indications are that they did nothing wrong and the bridge mechanically faltered.”

Broad Causeway is a 63-year-old private bridge owned by the town of Bay Harbor Islands in Miami-Dade County. The town has been considering repairs for the past six years, and in 2010, a report by the Florida Department of Transportation called the bridge “functionally obsolete,” according to reports in the Miami Tribune and Miami Herald.

This past September, the Bay Harbor Islands Town Council approved an $11.5 million contract to begin 18 months’ worth of repairs beginning in January 2015. Work was to have included replacing guardrails, fenders and cabling, and stripping support columns to metal and refurbishing them with high-grade concrete, according to the Tribune and Herald.

Rockstar is a 2009 build with a Patrick Knowles interior that won a World Superyacht Award Judges Special Commendation in 2010. She is currently owned by 44-year-old Russell Weiner, the son of conservative radio host Michael Savage. In 2001, Weiner founded Rockstar, an energy drink that contains 62 grams of sugar and 160 milligrams of caffeine per can and that, according to Bloomberg, has annual retail sales of about $780 million as America’s third-biggest energy drink brand.

Weiner was not on board at the time of the incident, nor were any guests, according to a knowledgeable source who is familiar with the area and the yacht. Only the normal complement of crew were on board, including both the yacht’s outgoing and incoming captains, who were on standby as the two tugboats moved the boat through the drawbridge opening. Nobody was injured.

“It’s very shallow there, and almost every big boat goes through under tow to limit liability,” the source told Yachting. “There was nothing wrong with the boat. There are news stations reporting that the boat was incapacitated or damaged beforehand. It’s not true. The bridge fell on the boat.”

Rockstar is managed by International Yacht Collection, which offers her for charter in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean at a weekly base rate of $238,000 for 12 guests with 10 crew. The yacht’s next charter booking was scheduled for Christmas, in about three weeks. While the damage is reportedly repairable, it is unclear whether it can be fixed in time for that booking.

Pino said the FFWCC’s four-page investigative report will likely take a couple of weeks to complete.

Great choice for a sail on Banderas Bay

Great choice for a sail on Banderas Bay. Rick is very accommodating. He will design the excursion to meet your needs. Our day began around 11. Rick timed our return to the Marina around sunset. We sailed without motor for about half the trip. Traveling along the beach beyond Boca. We anchored near a small beautiful beach where we snorkeled and relaxed on the beach. Included with the tour was more than enough food and drink for the 7 hour trip. The seafood and chicken skewers were delicious. There was Sangria, margaritas and beer to satisfy our thirst. Rick was full of information about the area and culture. A very good value. Highly recommend.

Confirmation that drawbridge fell on superyacht Rockstar

A drawbridge crashed onto the mast of superyacht Rockstar as she was being towed under it in Miami, Florida.

Newly released surveillance footage confirms that the bridge fell onto the superyacht, disputing some claims that Rockstar hit the bridge whilst under tow. Watch the footage on Local10.com .

As the video below shows, the bridge damaged the mast of the Rockstar extensively:

Assistant City Manager JC Jimenez says the tow company asked the bridge tender to raise both sides so it could pass. As Rockstar was moving through, the east side slipped and took out part of the superstructure as it hit her.

“The bridge was open, and the vessel was trying to make its way through,” says Jorge Pino, spokesman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Other reports suggested the Trinity yacht – previously called Blind Date - came into contact with the bridge, causing it to collapse. This theory has been disproved with the release of new surveillance footage.

“The brake definitely failed on the bridge,” confirms Ronald Wassen, Bay Harbour Village Town Mayor.

Owner Russell Weiner, Founder & CEO of Rockstar, says: “Thank God nobody got hurt. could have been a tragedy due to the city not maintaining this bridge correctly. A few seconds earlier and it could have hit and crushed the steering station where the captain and crew were.”

U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Mark Barney says there will be an investigation.

The superyacht had 15 crew on board, but luckily there were no injuries reported. The bridge, which is being tested to make sure locking system works, is due to undergo a $11.5 million repair to update it after the Florida Department of Transportation described it as “functionally obsolete”.

Montenegro Office: History

The history of Rockstar Yachts goes back to 2016 when an experienced yacht broker Alex Reev, managing partner of the Azimut / Benetti office in Montenegro at that time, decided to develop the yacht business on his own.

Together with his partner, they registered a yacht brokerage company in Tivat, Montenegro. The main activity of the new company was the sale of new and used motor yachts in South Adriatic region.

During the first three years, they sold and delivered over 30 luxury yachts for clients from Europe, the USA, and the countries of the former CIS.

In 2019, Alex Reev bought out a share from his partner and became a 100% owner of the brokerage firm. At this time, the company name was changed to Rockstar Yachts.

Same year Rockstar Yachts signed its first distribution agreement with Groupe Beneteau , becoming the official distributor of Prestige Yachts in Montenegro.

In addition to Prestige Yachts, Beneteau Group includes such brands for sale, as Beneteau , Jeanneau , Lagoon , Four Winns , and Wellcraft .

In 2021 the Company relocated its head office to Porto Montenegro , one of the most luxurious superyacht marinas in the world.

A year later Rockstar Yachts expanded its distribution business to become the official distributor of Fiart Mare in Montenegro.

Today, our Montenegro branch is under the management of Rockstar Yachts AG , a Swiss holding company headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland.
