French Polynesia has an incredibly rich culture and historic background which can be seen and felt as soon as you visit the region. The first people to observe Tahiti and French Polynesia’s other isolated islands migrated from Southeast Asia roughly 4,000 years ago. Today, many residents are descendants of the brave sailors who navigated their way here on wooden canoes stitched with natural fibers.
Tahitians have a mindset that revolves around a philosophy known as aita pea pea , or ‘ not to worry .’ Many Tahitian traditions and oral legends date back to their Maohi ancestors, including the bamboo huts built with pandanus roofs they still live in and the colorful pareus they still wear.
As well as its beautiful islands and swathes of beaches, French Polynesia is also renowned for its artistry which includes weaving, woodcarving and tattooing. Each sacred tradition tells a colorful story about Tahitian life, love, and their enduring relationship with nature.
Music and dance are also a huge part of their culture and each performance displays passion and vitality which was once linked to all aspects of island life.

Motor Yacht Charters in French Polynesia
Motor yacht charters are a fantastic way to explore all that French Polynesia has to offer, and with the extra power that you get from the high-throttled engines, you can cover much greater distances in a shorter amount of time, allowing you to get the maximum out of your private super yacht charter.

Sailing Yacht Charters in French Polynesia
If it’s a more tranquil and peaceful experience you’re looking for, then perhaps a sailing yacht might be the best fit; allowing you to relax and rejuvenate whilst soaking in the impeccable views. The dry season between May and October is the optimum time for cruising across this gleaming archipelago. While there is no shortage of clear skies and warm sunshine throughout the year; there are more events and festivals, less humidity, and greater availability of cruise dates during these times.
Catamarans are also a prevalent choice in French Polynesia, offering more excellent stability, ample space and larger cabins, as well as being perfect for navigating the shallow waters and the famous picturesque lagoons that are found here.
There is a limited amount of vessels that are readily available in this region so if you are keen on renting a luxury yacht around these waters, we highly recommend you speak with a yacht charter broker who can advise you on which yachts will be available and when.

French Polynesia is a year-round cruising destination with temperatures ranging between 28 - 31 degrees. Although the most popular times to embark on a private superyacht vacation are usually during the peak summer months, there are many different elements to take into consideration before you go.
Tahiti and French Polynesia only have two seasons the wet season and the dry season. Between May and September is the most favorable for yacht charters as it is generally drier and the winds tend to be more predictable.
The best conditions for sailing can be found in the Iles sous le Vent (Leeward Islands) region which is home to prevailing winds coming from the east at a speed of between 15-20 knots and up to 25 knots.
Between November and April is the wet season with an average high temperature of 35 degrees and an average low of 29 degrees.

Guests can embark on their superyacht at one of Tahiti's main Pacific hubs, Marina Taina or Papeete Port . Papeete is a city bustling with life, you will find that you are within walking distance of excellent dining and shopping facilities.
One of the largest urban centers in the South Pacific, Papatee itself is a gracious and elegant tropical city with tall palm trees and an abundance of flowers hugging the city. From here you can cruise to the nearby Mo'orea , Raiatea and the additional Society Islands .
Others may prefer to start their charter in the region of Raiatea on Thaiti island which is where another popular marina is located. You can fly to the international airport in Papeete and then catch a connecting flight to Raiatea (Uturoa Airport) with Air Tahiti.
Raiatea is the ideal location to begin your yacht charter venture thanks to its close proximity to Tahiti's sister island, Mo'orea. - Opunohu Bay, Mo'orea - the water is 80 meters deep at the mouth and is a particularly popular choice for its magnificent scenery.
- Cooks Bay, Mo'orea - boasts picture-perfect vistas of the island of Mo'orea. The surrounding waters are great for swimming and perfectly clear for those wanting to snorkel.
ATMs are easy to find on Tahiti and near airports but more challenging on other islands so it is advised to plan your cash well.
Tipping is not expected or standard practice in the country. That said, you can certainly tip for good service and in those situations, 10% is the unspoken benchmark.
French Polynesia is an overseas territory of France, and French is the official language. However, Tahitian is widely spoken, particularly in the outer islands, as well as in other dialects. Not many people speak English outside of tourist establishments.
Avoid daytrippers around popular hotspots by arriving either first thing in the morning or late afternoon when they all head back to their resorts.
One of the best places to visit if you're looking for a luxury escape, Bora Bora is globally renowned to be one of the most romantic destinations on the planet. Scattered with opulent resorts and beautiful vistas, there is definitely something for the entire charter party to enjoy here. Check out the incredible Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora for some inspiration, they also have overwater bungalows with pools as well as decks, allowing you to both swim on your balcony and jump off of it.

Romantic, charming and elegant, Tahiti is a popular and idyllic charter location thanks to its naturally made lagoons and passes which teem with abundant marine life and coral-fringed reef. Mo'orea
You can't deny the natural beauty of Mo'orea island. One of the best places for snorkeling and diving, the island is home to some of the most incredible marine life. Those on a yacht charter vacation will get to embark on the most incredible experiences here from deep sea diving to swimming with humpback whales. From the months of July to November, humpback whales visit the waters around this island and can be seen on a regular basis, sometimes even inside the lagoon.
Thanks to the island's crystal clear waters, the ocean around this region is home to some of the best snorkeling spots in the entire French Polynesia.
The Marquesas
North of Tahiti, the mystical islands of Marquesas are some of the most remote, yet accessible, islands in the world. If you're looking for a truly authentic island experience, you'll be able to find it here. The islands are known locally as ‘The Land of Men’ and are famous for their traditional Polynesia tattoos and artistry. There are many local artisan markets in the main villages where you can find any unique and original gifts, from seed necklaces to carved bone earrings to giant wooden manta rays carved with traditional Polynesia designs.
The Marquesas is made up of two main islands: Nuku Hiva and Hiva Ova, both of which offer dramatic scenery and perfectly unique landscapes. Rich in history and culture, these islands are definitely worth visiting as they are simply unlike any other destination in the world.
With an abundance of opportunities for adventure and exploration, Huahine is one of the larger society islands. From archaeological sites, picture-perfect beaches and superb snorkel spots, this island is the perfect place to go for a unique charter vacation. Be sure to visit Aveva Bay for a refreshing swim and soak in the impeccable views from Panorama de Tefareii.
For yacht charters in French Polynesia, we strongly advise booking well in advance of your trip to ensure you get the perfect vessel for your chosen dates. We recommend booking at least 3 months ahead to give your broker the time to organize the ultimate charter experience.
If left too late, the selection of yachts at your disposal will be reduced. It is also useful to book early in order to secure a date when everyone in your charter party is available as the longer you leave it, the more challenging this will be.
Your yacht charter broker will also need plenty of time to craft a personalized itinerary and enough time to book ahead for the nights you wish to spend in the marinas. Advance booking will allow your broker the optimum time to organize everything down to the last detail to ensure your yacht charter runs seamlessly.

Yacht Charter in French Polynesia
French Polynesia yacht charter
French Polynesia is situated in the heart of the South Pacific and comprises 5 archipelagos over a vast area of water. With luxury villas, world-class resorts, and the most beautiful crystal clear, glass waters you've ever seen, it's no surprise that yacht charters are some of the most sought-after activities in this region. With most of the islands being hundreds of miles away from each other, there really isn't any other way to truly immerse yourself in the wonders of this Pacific group of islands than by chartering a private yacht.
Why charter a yacht in French Polynesia?
The South Pacific is a remote destination in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, and its remoteness is one of its charms. The French Polynesian group of archipelagos is one of the most beautiful places on earth, with 118 islands located in a span of 2 million square miles. To get the best of this tropical paradise, there's only one way to visit the best ones in styles, and that's onboard a luxury yacht.
Marinas are found in most of the destinations, such as Bora Bora, Tahiti, and Moorea, but on islands where luxury resorts are nowhere to be found, safe anchorages on bays and safe harbours offer protected refuge for yacht charters that cruise the Pacific. All kinds and sizes of yachts can be chartered from sailboats to catamarans, to superyachts, to monohulls, you won't have a problem finding the perfect boat for you and your family or friends.
What are yacht charter prices in French Polynesia?
With yacht charters one of the top ways to explore French Polynesia, you'll find a great variety of yacht charter options to choose from. Prices vary on a number of factors such as the size of the yacht, the type of yacht you want to charter, the rental duration, the destinations, as well as the number of people on board.
A 111-foot sailboat for 7 adults can cost around $70,000 for a week, while a 138-foot catamaran for 8 people can cost $128,000 per week. For a 145-foot catamaran that can accommodate a group of 12 adults, it can cost about $260,000 per week, while a 197-foot superyacht for 12 adults can cost about $375,000 for a full week of cruising around the islands.
When is the yachting season in French Polynesia?
All-year-round trade winds and mild climate make the group of Islands a fantastic superyacht charter destination. With a tropical climate, French Polynesia experiences two seasons: the dry and the wet seasons. The dry season is the best time of the year for yacht charters and cruises, with sunshine and blue skies every day during the months of May to October. The wet season falls between November to April and characterised by heavy rains and storms.
French Polynesia yacht charter overnight
Tahiti is one of the most popular islands in French Polynesia, and if you've chosen to stay at a luxury villa or 5-star resort on the island, then you'd want to explore more of what the archipelago has to offer. If you only have 2 days to hit the waters, then an overnight yacht charter to Moorea island is a definite must.
Travel time to Moorea from Tahiti can take around 30 to 40 minutes, which means you can start early in the morning to arrive in Moorea just before noon. Indulge yourself in fresh seafood grilled in one of the beach cafes before you explore the wonders of the island. ATVs through the lush forests, a scooter ride to navigate the island, horseback riding, outdoor adventures, and authentic local culture are waiting for you to explore.
You can then head back to your yacht where it is moored on a bay, and you get to sleep under the stars on the deck or in the comforts of your luxury cabin. In the morning, have breakfast on the boat, and explore Moorea one last time, before hopping back and heading your way back to Tahiti, just as the sun sets on the vast Pacific Ocean.
French Polynesia yacht charter for a week
With over 100 islands, there's simply so much to explore in French Polynesia that week-long yacht charters are the norm. You can choose from which island you want to jumpstart your expedition, but Tahiti is the most popular of all since the capital of Papeete is found here, as well as its lone international airport. A week-long French Polynesia yacht charter itinerary can include the following:
Day 1: Tahiti
Cruise along the coast of Tahiti and explore the beautiful beaches and coves found within the island. Moor on a secluded bay, dive into the waters and discover ancient shipwrecks and coral reefs, and spend the night on the bay.
Day 2: Moorea
Come morning, enjoy breakfast on deck before making your way to Moorea, which is found 12 km from Tahiti, and reachable within 30 to 40 minutes. Disembark and enjoy an entire day of exploration and adventure on the island. Get back on the boat at the end of the day, where you will stay the night and prepare for the next morning.
Day 3: Huahine
Dubbed as the "Garden Island," Huahine offers lush jungles and smooth white sand beaches. A sand bar appears when the tide is out, and you can kayak down its secluded lagoons and streams.
Day 4: Raiatea
Dubbed as "Faraway Heaven," Raiatea features beautiful mountains with religious temples and sacred statues buried in its foothills. A pearl farm is also found on the island, as well as a tranquil lagoon that conceals an expansive coral garden located just off the shore.
Day 5: Taha'a
Home of vanilla plantations, you can smell the aroma of sweet vanilla on any given day. Vanilla Island, as it's also called, features a translucent lagoon and powder-sand beaches.
Day 6: Bora Bora
Considered to be the crown jewel of French Polynesia, it is home to ivory beaches, a large barrier reef, a famous lagoon, glassy turquoise waters, and beautiful overwater luxury villas. An airport is located in Motu Mute, which serves Bora Bora, offering one-hour flights back to Tahiti, or you can cruise back to Tahiti, which takes about 12 hours cruising time.
To truly enjoy French Polynesia, staying on one island or two won't be enough. To truly understand how beautiful this region is, a week-long yacht charter exploring the spectacular scenery and natural wonders this region has to offer is the most paradisiac experience to behold.

FRENCH POLYNESIA
Please, take that extra step to paradise and be rewarded many times over by the central jewel in the South Pacific crown. Exploring in French Polynesia, which lies at the very heart of the Pacific Ocean, is the ultimate in romantic yachting and, best of all, there are several excellent luxury French Polynesian yacht charters available.
With 118 volcanic and coral islands spread across the South Pacific, French Polynesia is a glorious destination to visit on board a superyacht. This natural utopia is all about the ocean, so a yacht is the perfect medium for this venue. Glide through beautiful lagoons, take in the magnificent scenery of volcanic peaks and explore quaint villages like Patio. You can also climb mountains for even more spectacular views.
The awesome harbour of Marina Apooiti gives yacht charterers the opportunity to drop anchor to enjoy gourmet restaurants and lively bars. Raiatea is the second largest island in French Polynesia with amazing green valleys full of vanilla and pineapple plantations. Enjoy the splendid waterfalls and tropical lagoons that are full of marine life and coral.
You’ll find some of the world’s best dive sites off the coast of French Polynesia. These must-do scuba dives can be found off the islands of Bora Bora, Tahiti and Moorea to name but a few. The cruising grounds and shores of Tahiti, Raiatea, Tahaa and Fakarava all offer something different, from snorkelling to diving, exploring lagoons on kayaks and sailing dinghies. Sample world-class surf on the stunning beaches like Matira Beach (Bora Bora), Tereia Beach (Maupiti Island), Punaauia Beach (Punaauia) and Nahoe Beach (Hiva Oa).
The all year-round trade winds and mild climate makes French Polynesia a fabulous superyacht charter destination. When sailing in the calm waters of the South Pacific, island-hopping is great fun. Expect plenty of adventure, dramatic volcanic scenery, incredible wild life and a warm welcome from the traditional island communities. The ocean is alive with sea turtles, sharks, dolphins and more than 500 species of fish. Among the coral reefs and stunning lagoons, there is an array of marine life, shipwrecks and drop offs just waiting to be explored.
During your superyacht charter vacation to French Polynesia soak up the atmosphere and discover hidden treasures on the Austral, Marquesas, Society, Tuamotu and Gambier archipelagos. Bora Bora is well worth a visit. Drop anchor in Bora Bora Harbour and explore this fascinating island. It was formed out of the crater of an extinct volcano. With the main island rising from a turquoise lagoon, lots of colourful coral around and low-lying atolls, this island will certainly take your breath away.
