Where in the World is Parallax

The Voyage of Parallax continues: Starting in November2021 in Hampton VA, single handed to Antigua and then through the Carribean islands back to St. Martin.  Here Robbyn and the sailing Pom Willoughby joined the voyage now east to the Azores on to Galicia Spain, south along the Portugal coast, along the Iberian coast and southern Spain, through the Pillars of Hercules with a stop at Gibraltar, on to the Baelerics in the western med, back to Gibraltar, Ceuta Africa, Madeira, Canaries and now after 3000 plus miles across the Atlantic, on a mooring in Guadeloupe.

The total nautical miles sailed from Norfolk VA to Marie Gallant Guadeloupe  along Parallax's meandering path is about 11000, best I can reckon, give or take.

This has short keels rather than centreboards so it concerns me. However, I also want a stable platform for & snorkeling the . Comments on sailing ability or anything regarding this design appreciated. I have owned plenty of monos but only one multi which was a Crowther Twiggy. Thanks. 25-07-2022, 19:50   Boat: Hedley Nicol Vagabond MK2, 37' 25-07-2022, 19:52   Boat: Windrush Wildfire 7.2m 1978 26-07-2022, 00:58   Boat: Chamberlin 11.6 catamaran , so it looks like any other normal bridgedeck Chamberlin. I asked Robin for some 2.4m long and 100mm deep keels for pulling out on a slipway (I had some issues with my Twiggy bending on a slipway so liked the idea of a strong area), and Robin did design some nice cats with keels - so it can be done, keels just need to be well designed. I started off without a cover, but in the end the tropical sun and and rain made me cover the up. The Parallax 9 usually had a cockpit , which I think is pretty essential. Keels aside, the Parallx 9 looked like a really nice boat. I met a guy with one at Keppel who kept it in the creek at Yeppoon. It was a nice boat that sailed well. They were built by OSTAC and would all be getting on for almost 40 years old by now. I would check for and check the chainplates and other areas that older need checking on. As to the keels, I am not sure that would be a deal breaker. I don't know why the boat has keels, the Parallax was one of the first cats to have nice kick up assemblies we see on centreboard cats today. That said, I met a nice guy in Tassie who had a Chamberlin pod cat that was very fast that had keels. The owner/builder just wanted a set and forget set up and Robin obliged. I think that the keels could be fine if done well - reasonably deep, large enough to properly, well shaped NACA section and in good nick. You are just going to lose a little in speed and pointing. As you may have gathered, my boat before my Chamberlin was also a Twiggy. Which one did you own? Wish I had of kept her as the sailing around that area was suitable. Anyway I think the Parallax 9 will fit my purpose so all depends on the condition.
