Yacht Club Char-grilled Oysters reviews from Flora Bama Yacht Club

Photo of Isabel W.

If you've heard about the famous Florbama-Lounge... it's great if you're 21 and want to party it up at night in a hot sweaty bar, or touring through and want a been there done that T-shirt. BUT, If you want GOOD food and service and a lovely outdoor hang out spot walk back across the street to the yachts club. There is beach space to lay out and get some sun, listen to live music, have a drink, make some friends. Pull your boat right up! Some of the best seafood in the area. Update: Pets are no longer allowed!

The food at Flora Bama Yacht club is always a hit! The service is unbeatable as well! Next time you're in town, go there and ask for Hannah M! She goes above and beyond. She is also very personable. Janet the manager and Eric the head chef came around to greet the guests and really make you feel appreciated and welcome! Still remains our all time favorite spot.

Flora Bama was a must stop destination for us, primarily for the live music. However, upon doing our research, we found a that there was a proper sit down restaurant that served food - the Yacht Club. I must admit that my expectations were set pretty low, so I was pleasantly surprised at how good it actually was. The highlight for me was the Blue Crab Claws. I love crab, but usually don't eat Blue Crabs because they are hard work. However, these were just the claws and already shelled. And the sauce they were in was aldelicious. My husband is the oyster fan, but I always try a couple when he orders them. Usually we do fresh, but these cooked oysters were delicious from an array of styles to choose from. Fish dip and gumbo were also good, but pretty standard. We really enjoyed our meal and would hit it up again if ever there for another live music night.

Overall good experience at the Yacht Club for lunch! There was a wait for "indoor seating", so we opted for outdoor seating. While it was really hot, it was nice to eat in the sand and listen to the band while we watched the boats go by. We started with the yacht club grilled oysters, fried crab claws and a bushwacker with the rum floater (this is what they're famous for). The crab claws may have been the best thing we ordered. It was a big portion and they had lots of meat on them (I have when they're tiny) and the batter had a nice favor to them, with a tad bit of spice. For entrees, we got the tuna wrap and the combo seafood platter with blackened gulf fish and fried shrimp. The tuna wrap was great! It has a spicy Mayo that adds a nice heat to it (and tastes great if you order ranch with it). The fries that came with it were just average. The shrimp on the combo was a nice size and battered well. However, the fish was a small portion and extremely overcook, we didn't really even eat it. Both the hush puppies and slaw were good but again, very average fries. Overall, we'll be back but won't great the blackened fish! What I'd order again: bushwacker, crab claws, tuna wrap add ranch (with a side besides fries), fried shrimp

We had a family of 7 and the food (fried oysters, grilled oysters, raw oysters, etc) was all very good. The waiter was very polite and we sat outside along the water with great temperatures. Downside was it took close to a half hour for my grilled oysters to be served and there was a guy at the table beside us who apparently cannot control his alcohol intake and foul mouth. We ate around 1530 hours and it was bad enough that my 11 year old daughter asked why the gentleman had to say the F word so many times...

Hey Hey Alabama and America. This is the place to be for fun, food, sun and memories. They're known for the Bushwacker drink. One is strong. 2 is no pain and 3 you'll be taking a nap. Lol. Great toppers are Amaretto, peanut butter whiskey and salted caramel...oooo and banana. They're known for the grilled oysters. A steak here is surprisingly good as well. And If you're drinking...good boat food choices are the burgers and hash-puppies. If you're coming by boat...be prepared to wait to find a parking spot. Definitely an iconic place to visit. It's a staple of OBA.

We visited on The Yacht Clubs first day back open after, the recent hurricane forced them to close. The bartender greeted us immediately as we seated ourselves at the counter. For just being reopened, all the bar supplies seemed to be pretty stocked. The menu only had two food items that were unavailable, but that was due to local fish availability. The Flora-Bama Jama mixed drink is made with Coconut Rum, it's very refreshing. Firecracker Coconut Shrimp came with a sweet Chilli sauce and were very fresh.

Great open air dining style with water views and a cool salt life atmosphere. Yacht Club gets high marks for the experience part and a mixed review for the food. What they got right: Seafood Gumbo is out of this world good. Not knowing how to make that gumbo at home will be added to the list of life regrets! Where they missed the mark: The wife and I are New Orleans regulars so I was excited when I saw the chargrilled oysters and shrimp poboy on the menu. To start, the chargrilled oysters were not chargrilled. The taste and texture came more likely from being warmed in an oven. Also, they were very small in comparison to oysters we've had on this trip and others to the GC. The poboy was not a poboy sandwich by any objective measure. Pictures included in this review if anyone is interested. That being said we still enjoyed the atmosphere and would come back for more cold beer. Pro tip: get the beignet fries.

I honestly was not expecting much of the food as it's the bar that has the big name from what I had heard. What I didn't realize is how huge Flora Bama is! Yes there is the bar but across the street was the Yacht Club. Great vibe with some live music and lights on the waterfront. Sat at a picnic table. Great service and yummy food! I ordered calamari as an appetizer and convinced my friends to try it even though they just knew it would be gross. They loved it! A friend tried the oysters which she loved. The mash puppies I think they were called were different but very tasty. Then we decided to split a platter because we were getting full from appetizers. Fried shrimp, blackened fish, fries, and hush puppies were all really good. We all agreed we would be back on our next beach trip.

I have been going down to Gulf Shores for 30 years now and fell in love with Flora BAMA Yacht Club. We are from Indy and with the 500 being only on TV we had to find a fantastic place to watch it!!! Thank y'all for having it on 4 of your TVs and the awesome food! My hubby and friend both got the Shrimp & grits and talked about it for 2 days. I had the Mac & cheese and it was oh so gooey and watching the boats going in and out is always a phenomenal way to eat your lunch! There was a band playing as well!! Thanks for making the Indy 500 so fun to watch!

Flora-Bama Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, food and ambience, location and contact.

The food was good. I did find it strange that seafood in Florida was not less expensive than Georgia no matter where we ate. The Pina Coladas were good but about $8 to $10 each in plastic cups. I had the Mahi sandwich which was... very good. This was one of the better places we found that also has a view. More

We have not been in 3 years since my dad passed away, but when we did, we ate there 2 or 3 times in the week we were there. It was our favorite. The Lobster Corn Dog was a starter then on to Mahi plate... and Bengie Fries, others had shrimp, grilled ceasar salad with chicken, shrimp po boy and chicken fingers. These were favorites. But we tried everything. But can't mess with the favorites. Looking at the menu I see alot of changes. Will go back again when able. Hope to see some of my favorites back or will accommodate. More

Arrived today and unpacked and worked up an appetite. My only negative is the staff do not wear masks, I know ... we r in Florida now but it would offer good protection for wait staff as well as customers.. Now for the good part... .. I had a side salad first which was perfect in size .. not too big and fresh.. then my main dish which was the Creole Rigatoni ...sauce was delish, could have used more conecuh sausage , but was more than enough pasta and seafood to eat. My boyfriend had the fried combo platter, shrimp and fish .. he also had plenty to eat ( although the slaw was one big bite for him!) and it was not at all greasy. The real pleasure was our server, Hannah who was very attentive, and just a delightful person, she gifted us with coupons for a special for our next visit which we fully intend to make! More

The place was dirty. Not what we were expecting at all. Trash cans to the brim. Tables dirty. And they didn’t seem to follow any kind of safety guidelines for the reopening after the pandemic. They made us sit outside at dirty picnic tables during... gale force winds even though we said we’d wait longer for inside seating. We could hardly hold our glasses and plates and eat. We each had the mahi mahi tacos and they were nothing special. The best thing about the place was the live singer. He was good. This looked to only be a party place which we thought was the place across the road. Guess not. We just don’t see how they get such high reviews. More

It was a recommended place on here per reviews went in the afternoon had a burger and a cocktail. Wait staff was average not anything that sticks out. Food and drink was so so my meal was around $20 for the drink and burger. View... of water was nice and I’m sure it would be a funner atmosphere in evening adding in live music. But I did buy the t- shirt😋 More

Our first time here, have seen it on food shows etc.. we were met by Billy and he explained what we needed to do and where we could order drinks and food and where we could sit. He even helped in delivering our food, answering... our questions and telling us about the history of Flora-Bama. I had the burger which was very good, others had the shrimp dish and oysters. Everyone was happy. My only regret was there was no live music while we were there. We truly enjoyed our experience here. If you prefer white table cloth dining don’t come here. If you enjoy life and all it’s quirks they Flora-Bama is made for you. More

Flora Bama Yacht Club is a fun place to get drinks, eat some apps, listen to music and have a good time. But every time I eat there I disappoint myself (that I came back there to eat). They sling food as fast as they... sling their drinks. I ordered the crab cakes $32, which were not cakes at all. They were more of a crab casserole. I am pretty sure the crab cakes fell on the ground and they scooped them up and plated them. My friend had the Creole Rigatoni, which came out as a weak pasta soup. Anyway, fun place, just order wings or a burger and enjoy the fun. More

They say they offer Gluten Free options, but what that amounts to is something from the menu WITHOUT A BUN. I ordered grilled fish (from a Po Boy) - I got blackened, pretty dry blackened. Even the waitress said that they don't have much of... an allergy free menu, & in a southern drawl, "I apologize for that.". Certainly not HER fault, but didn't help much. Of the 6 orders at our table, 3 were wrong, but she did take the 2 burger mistakes off the bill. Cocktails were ok, nothing special. Not worth the drive from Gulf Shores. More

Thanks for taking the time to leave us a review! I apologize that you did not have the best experience while dining with us. If you have any additional feedback, please feel free to send it to [email protected] - we would love to hear from... More

Fun restaurant! Very casual with picnic style tables. We ordered and shared the greek shrimp loaded nacho's and a mahi mahi reuben. Both entree's were delicious. The greek shrimp nacho's were very similar to and very well may have been a deep fried wonton chip... (which we were not expecting) but was an unusual and interesting twist to the typical nacho. They were covered with a feta cheese mixture with small grilled shrimps. This was a very generous portion in which the two of us could not finish. I love a good ruebin so replacing the corned beef with the mahi mahi was a tasty healthy replacement in which I really enjoyed. Our server was really pleasant and accommodating. Overall this was a great dinner and we will certainly look forward to coming back. More

Thank you so much for your great feedback on your recent experience with us! Awesome dinner choices, the Greek Shrimp Nachos with a Yacht Club twist are always a fave! We look forward to seeing ya'll again soon next time you're in the area :)

On 9-2-2023, went here for dinner, drinks, desert and live music. We ordered blackened triple tail. We were served grilled (not blackened) fish. We have ordered the same thing many times before. Advised waitress that food was great, but not what we ordered. Advised server... that this was not prepared as it always has been. We asked that the kitchen be advised so that they know what was wrong, so that it would be prepared correctly the next time. The manager closed our ticket. We did not want free food, as the food was delicious, just not prepared as we ordered.. instead of correcting the problem, our ticket was closed out so we could not order desert or any additional cocktails. Instead of fixing the problem so that it wouldn’t happen again, we were rushed out the door. When we asked to pay for what we had eaten, we were told we couldn’t pay, as our check had been closed out. We were not allowed to order desert or any additional cocktails. We were treated as if we complained to get free food, when all we wanted was to let them know that a problem had occurred, and to be allowed to spend more money at this establishment. More

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. Can we get your contact info? Please email [email protected]. Thanks!

Will not return. We expected a wait to be seated but we waited over an hour to receive our food. One of the salads came without the chicken that was ordered. The Mahi tacos were drenched in sauce and just a little bit of slaw... on it. Overall, a bit overpriced and staff shortage is not worth a visit. More

This is a staple for stopping for food. Always a pleasure to come and sit - whether with people or alone. I love my trips here, only this last time, I was overcharged and the salad was drowned in dressing making it unedible... yes I... told the server/barender and all she did was take it away and not replace it but still charged me for it. More

Was looking forward to visiting this spot because we like beach bars. I had a horrible vodka with club soda that was flat. The first mistake was the denial that there was anything wrong with the drink (manager said CO2 is full was the response... from the server). The second mistake was charging me for the disgusting flat drink that remained untouched aside from the first sip. Poor customer service in inexcusable. We will never go back. It’s not that hard to make a vodka with club soda. More

We come here at least once a week and I’m constantly blown away by the service, food, music and overall vibe but I have to take a moment to recognize the bestest server who absolutely ROCKED IT! Hannah V. not only was informative, recommending stuff,... etc. she served us with an upbeat and smiling face. The Flora-Bama Yacht Club on Perdido Key, Florida is a great restaurant for live music, fun, and delicious food.

Flora Bama yacht club sign over a blue chair rum bar sign

While the Flora-Bama Yacht Club is technically in Florida, it is pretty darn close to the Alabama line. Considering there is a sign in the parking lot that is split between the two states, you can choose if you feel like being in Alabama or Florida.

Either way the time you spend at the Yacht Club will be fun with great food!

Relax on the open air deck or head down to a chair in the gorgeous white sand beach. This legendary restaurant is part of the Flora-Bama family of restaurants and experiences.

Salads - Greek Salad, Raspberry Pecan Salad, Traditional Chicken Caesar Salad

The Raspberry Pecan Salad pictures above is one of the best salads I have had since moving to the Gulf Coast. I would drive to the Flora Bama Yacht Club just to get this salad it is that good.

Normally it has praline pecans on it but I had them removed.

Gluten-Free - They have oysters, salads, ribeye steak, filet mignon, fresh seafood, and more!

Vegan/ Vegetarian - When I asked what the best options were for a vegetarian I was told the salads are the best idea. I have to tell you I would drive 15-20 minutes from our house to get to the Flora-Bama Yacht Club weekly to enjoy the raspberry pecan salad.

This is one of the best salads I have had since moving to the Gulf Coast.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
