Sochi, a tropical resort on the Black Sea

Travel tips for south russia.

motor yacht high power 3

Russia is a rather cold country, with long winters and short and often cool summers. So, almost everyone here has a dream “to go to the south”, to wear the shorts and summer dresses, to have a lazy vacation on a beach, to wash away all the problems swimming in the gentle warm sea. Sochi, a famous resort city on the Black Sea coast, with its humid subtropical climate supremely well serves this purpose. When people hear the name ‘ Sochi ’ in Russia, they instantly imagine a tropical resort with the   sea and palms.

The Russian Riviera

No doubt, the main landmark of Sochi is the sea. The Black Sea coast under the Caucasus Mountains in Krasnodar Krai includes 120 km of beaches and dozens of resorts and hotels. Sometimes it is called the Russian Riviera . Sochi is one of the biggest and most popular places on the seacoast. However, some people prefer small towns or villages at the sea’s edge.

The charm of old architecture

If you feel bored lying on a beach, picturesque nature and rich history of this region created many other wonderful opportunities to spend your time in Sochi. Among modern, recently built hotels, there are many pieces of old architecture -  sanatoriums, fountains and sculptures, that keep their charm .

Swim with the dolphins

A marine passenger terminal and a beacon are the integral features of a port city. In Sochi, you can see the oldest beacon of the entire Caucasus region created in 1880 and equipped with Fresnel’s composite lens. Its red light is still visible at a distance of 32 kilometers. The high spire of the marine passenger terminal will show you the way to the sea trip. You can take a boat tour and admire the panorama of the Sochi coast or rent a motor yacht and enjoy a good rattling speed and the salty sea spray. With some luck, you may see the dolphins in the sea. If you fail to see the dolphins in the sea, you can visit the dolphinarium and see their performance. These clever creatures show incredible tricks. After the performance, you can swim with the dolphins in a swimming pool, but you have to book it beforehand.

A second new nuclear reactor is completed in Georgia. The carbon-free power comes at a high price

ATLANTA (AP) — The second of two new nuclear reactors in Georgia has entered commercial operation, capping a project that cost billions more and took years longer than originally projected.

Georgia Power Co. and fellow owners announced the milestone Monday for Plant Vogtle’s Unit 4, which joins an earlier new reactor southeast of Augusta in splitting atoms to make carbon-free electricity.

Unit 3 began commercial operation last summer, joining two older reactors that have stood on the site for decades. They’re the first two nuclear reactors built in the United States in decades.

The new Vogtle reactors are currently projected to cost Georgia Power and three other owners $31 billion, according to calculations by The Associated Press. Add in $3.7 billion that original contractor Westinghouse paid Vogtle owners to walk away from construction, and the total nears $35 billion.

Electric customers in Georgia already have paid billions for what may be the most expensive power plant ever. The reactors were originally projected to cost $14 billion and be completed by 2017.

Utilities and their political supporters on Monday hailed the plant’s completion. Georgia Gov Brian Kemp proclaimed he was “thankful for this historic achievement by Georgia Power and its partners.” Chris Womack, CEO of Atlanta-based Southern Co., which owns Georgia Power, argues Vogtle will make the state’s electrical grid more reliable and resilient and help the utility meet its goal of zeroing out carbon emissions by 2050.

John Barrow speaks to a Democratic group in Hoschton, Ga., on Monday, April 15, 2024, seeking support in his race for the Georgia Supreme Court. Barrow is basing his campaign for the high court around his support for abortion rights as he challenges incumbent Justice Andrew Pinson in a nonpartisan election in May. (AP Photo/Jeff Amy)

“These new Vogtle units not only will support the economy within our communities now and in the future, they demonstrate our global nuclear leadership,” Womack said in a statement.

Each of the two new reactors can power 500,000 homes and businesses without releasing any carbon.

Even some opponents of Vogtle have said the United States can’t achieve carbon-free electricity without nuclear power. But Georgia Power, like other utilities, plans to build more fossil fuel generation in coming years, saying demand is rising sharply. That demand, driven by computer data centers, is being felt by multiple utilities across the country.

Calculations show Vogtle’s electricity will never be cheaper than other sources the owners could have chosen, even after the federal government reduced borrowing costs by guaranteeing repayment of $12 billion in loans.

“Hopefully, despite being seven years late and billions over budget, the two new units at Plant Vogtle will finally perform well for at least the next 80 years to justify the excessive cost,” said Liz Coyle, executive director of Georgia Watch, a consumer group that fought to limit rate increases.

In Georgia, almost every electric customer will pay for Vogtle. Georgia Power owns 45.7% of the reactors. Smaller shares are owned by Oglethorpe Power Corp. , which provides electricity to member-owned cooperatives, the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia and the city of Dalton. Utilities in Jacksonville, Florida , as well as in the Florida Panhandle and parts of Alabama also have contracted to buy Vogtle’s power.

Regulators in December approved an additional 6% rate increase on Georgia Power’s 2.7 million customers to pay for $7.56 billion in remaining costs at Vogtle, with the company absorbing $2.6 billion in costs. That’s expected to cost the typical residential customer an additional $8.97 a month in May, on top of the $5.42 increase that took effect when Unit 3 began operating.

Even as government officials and some utilities are looking to nuclear power to alleviate climate change, the cost of Vogtle could discourage utilities from pursuing nuclear power. American utilities have heeded Vogtle’s missteps, shelving plans for 24 other reactors proposed between 2007 and 2009. Two half-built reactors in South Carolina were abandoned . But Westinghouse is marketing the reactor design abroad. China has said it will build more reactors using the design, while Bulgaria, Poland and Ukraine also say they intend to build nuclear power stations using the Westinghouse reactor.

Who are the top boys volleyball teams? Providence Journal Week 4 volleyball power rankings

motor yacht high power 3

With just a few weeks remaining in the season there’s only two unbeaten teams left in the state.

Cranston West, in pursuit of a title redemption, has owned Division II all year. And Central Falls is perfect on the year with a trio of wins that went five sets.

Can anybody unseat these teams now that we are into May?

North Kingstown leads D-I and topped Cranston East last week. The state’s top division has contenders lurking as the Skippers aim for their third title in four years.

That’s it for our standings reset so let’s get onto the rankings …

Who made the cut? And who dropped from this fresh batch of rankings?

Find out below!

Providence Journal Boys Volleyball Power Rankings

1. north kingstown (10-1).

North Kingstown solidified its spot as the frontrunner of state’s top division with a 3-1 triumph over a red-hot Cranston East team. The Skippers have North Smithfield and La Salle in the coming weeks as North Kingstown primes for a playoff run.

Related: Can North Kingstown boys volleyball get better? The rest of the state had better hope not

2. Cranston East (8-3)

Cranston East’s rise to No. 2 is well due. The win streak was at eight before running into North Kingstown with triumphs over La Salle and North Smithfield during that stretch. I also challenged the Thunderbolts to keep winning and they did — so I’ve stayed true to my end.

3. La Salle (10-2)

The Rams rebounded after the Cranston East lost by sweeping East Greenwich on Wednesday. Ali Abdur-Razzak had 26 assists, four aces and eight digs in the win. La Salle has South Kingstown and a big matchup with North Smithfield on tap.

4. North Smithfield (8-2)

One behind the Rams lands North Smithfield. This quartet of clubs have been the first four, in some order, almost all season and it continues. It feels like the Northmen could be fine slotted at No. 3, but I’ll let the teams figure it out when La Salle hosts North Smithfield on the 13 th .

5. Classical (6-5)

And then Classical rounds out the Top 5 again. The Purple have beaten everyone they played, other than the programs ranked ahead of them. Can they pull off an upset in the playoffs?

DIVISION II

1. cranston west (9-0).

Cranston West’s sweep of Barrington was impressive . I don’t know what else this Falcons team could do in the regular season that would shock me. They’ll have to do it in the playoffs.

2. Barrington (8-2)

The Eagles stay at No. 2, they’re still the cream of the crop in the league. No penalty from me on the loss, it happens to everyone. East Providence and Lincoln are on deck for Barrington.

3. East Providence (8-3)

East Providence had a trio of sweeps over West Warwick, Westerly and Woonsocket. The Townies haven’t lost since mid-April and take their red-hot streak against Barrington and Cranston West in the coming days.

4. Lincoln (7-3)

Lincoln also went 3-0 last week and will face stiffer competition to end the season. Can the defending champions make a run like they did last year?

5. Westerly (4-5)

The Bulldogs haven’t had the best showing recently after falling in straight sets to East Providence and Lincoln. They’ll travel to Cranston West next week with the chance to end the Falcons’ perfect season.

DIVISION III

1. central falls (10-0).

Juanita Sanchez took Central Falls to five sets before losing, 15-7, as the Warriors remain unbeaten. That’s the third time that CF has gone to the fifth set, there’s something to be said about a team that can win consistently when the game is on the line.

2. Pawtucket (8-1)

It was a bit of lighter schedule for Pawtucket with sweeps against Middlebridge and Mount Pleasant, but the co-op did top Mt. Hope in straight sets between those wins. That’s seven straight wins for Pawtucket and they’ve only lost one set over that time.

3. Juanita Sanchez (8-2)

Juanita stays in the third slot with the loss to Central Falls. The Warriors have a non-league game against East Providence on the 15 th that should act as a great tuner before the playoffs.

4. Scituate/Prout (9-2)

After a five-game win streak and 3-2 triumph over Portsmouth, the state’s oddest co-op program makes its way back onto the rankings. Scituate/Prout can really make some playoff nose with a win vs. Tolman/Shea on the 14 th .

5. Portsmouth (6-3)

Back-to-back losses for the Patriots knock them down a peg. But on the bright side, Portsmouth has an easier schedule over the next week before traveling to Tolman/Shea.

Colorado football recruiting: Transfer portal news, 2024 roster, recruits, top Deion Sanders targets

Buffstampede has covered the buffs for decades and reveals all the latest news about the colorado football roster under head coach deion sanders.

deion-sanders-getty-images-cbs.jpg

Deion Sanders is arguably the most polarizing individual in college football today. The Colorado Buffaloes head coach has gained notoriety for his approach to building a Colorado football roster and for his tendency to provide headline-grabbing quotes every time he speaks to the media. This offseason has been no different, with Sanders once again overhauling his roster by bringing in dozens of new players through the Transfer Portal, and making bold predictions about where his son, Shedeur Sanders, will fall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The top priority for the Buffs this offseason has been rebuilding the team's offensive line. In 2023, Shedeur Sanders was the most-sacked quarterback in the country, and the Buffs' rushing attack was basically non-existent during the team's 1-8 finish in Coach Prime's first season in Boulder. With only a handful of roster spots and scholarships still available, Sanders is hard at work to put the finishing touches on the 2024 Colorado football roster. Who are the biggest additions and departures from the Buffs this offseason?  If you love Coach Prime and the Buffs, or just want the latest roster updates and college basketball transfer portal news, be sure to see what the proven team of insiders are saying at BuffStampede.com, the 247Sports affiliate that covers the Colorado Buffaloes .

The team of insiders at BuffStampede.com are providing up-to-the-minute scoop on the latest intel surrounding Coach Prime and the Colorado football roster changes. The coverage at BuffStampede.com is led by publisher Adam Munsterteiger, who has decades of experience covering the team. In addition, BuffStampede.com features a message board community visited by thousands of Colorado fanatics and program insiders.

The team at BuffStampede.com has full coverage of who is coming and who is going on the Colorado football roster. Head to BuffStampede.com right now to see all the insider info .

Colorado football roster departures

One of the more notable departures from the Colorado football roster is running back Dylan Edwards. The former four-star recruit was one of the top players in Colorado's 2023 recruiting class and chose to decommit from Notre Dame before signing with the Buffs last February. In his lone season in Boulder, Edwards flashed breakaway speed and the ability to be a home run threat out of the backfield.

The former Kansas High School Player of the Year rushed for 321 yards and a touchdown on 76 carries, and caught 36 passes for 299 yards and four touchdowns as a freshman for the Buffs. It didn't take Edwards long to find a new home, as the 5-foot-9 running back committed to the Kansas State Wildcats in late April. Colorado will look to replace Edwards' production with a pair of veteran players it acquired in the Transfer Portal.  Join BuffStampede.com to see the latest on all of Colorado's roster changes .

Colorado football news, roster

Colorado was once again extremely aggressive in the Transfer Portal this offseason. One of the Buffs' biggest additions, literally and figuratively, was former Houston offensive lineman Tyler Johnson. Rebuilding the offensive line was Sanders' top offseason priority, and Johnson has the opportunity to make an immediate impact this fall.

Shedeur Sanders took a beating in 2023, and was the most sacked quarterback in Division-I college football. Johnson, who began his college career at Texas before transferring to Houston, allowed only two sacks in 2023 while playing in a pass heavy offensive system. Johnson will likely be an interior offensive lineman for CU.  Join BuffStampede.com to get the latest on all of Colorado's football roster additions .

How to get insider Colorado football roster updates

Sanders has been in contact with multiple transfers from power-conference teams, so be sure to join BuffStampede.com to see who they are and get the rest of the insider roster news .

5 Bold Predictions for Colts 2024 NFL Draft Class

The Indianapolis Colts have a promising rookie class on their roster with a high ceiling of potential.

  • Author: Drake Wally

In this story:

The Indianapolis Colts used the 2024 NFL Draft to address several roster needs while adding impactful young talent. By the end of the three-day draft, Indy had nine new players who each had a path to helping the future success of the Colts franchise.

With this in mind, it’s time to look into some way-too-early predictions for this Colts draft class as the 2024 off-season is in full swing. Here are five that could go down, in order of when the player was picked.

undefined

UCLA Bruins defensive lineman Laiatu Latu (15) battles against the San Diego State Aztecs.

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

1.) Laiatu Latu: 10+ Sacks, 50+ QB Pressures

The Laiatu Latu selection was a steal at the 15th overall spot . Indianapolis can now add Latu to a fantastic defensive front that includes DeForest Buckner , Grover Stewart , Kwity Paye , Samson Ebukam , and Tyquan Lewis .

After wrecking opponents at UCLA in 2022 and 2023, it’s hard to imagine Latu not breaking out as a rookie with the talented Colts defensive front around him. With Charlie Partridge at the helm, I like Latu’s chances of being a menace to offensive lines.

I’m predicting 11.5 sacks and 53 QB pressures through 16-17 games played. It’s a high mark to set, but Latu is one of the most polished pass rushers in recent drafts and accumulated 62 pressures, 36 hurries, and constant disruptions for UCLA in 2023, per Pro Football Focus . This ceiling of potential, paired with who is around him, could also get Latu the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.

undefined

Texas Longhorns wide receiver Adonai Mitchell (5) catches a touchdown against the Washington Huskies.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

2.) Adonai Mitchell: 80+ Targets, Catch 70% or More Passes

There were two Texas Longhorn wide receivers realistically on Indy's draft board, Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell . While Worthy seemed a more experienced and explosive fit for Shane Steichen's offensive goals, Mitchell has better size, hands, and route-running. There’s also the chance his ceiling is higher than Worthy’s at the NFL level.

Texas WR AD Mitchell: 6-foot-4, 196 pounds, smooth as butter route runner and excellent hands (just 1 drop in 2023). pic.twitter.com/WAtSdXmmNS — Field Yates (@FieldYates) February 26, 2024

Mitchell has one notable collegiate season, 2023 with 55 catches for 845 yards (15.4 per catch), and 11 touchdowns. Despite the lack of experience, Mitchell is only 20 years old and still has great route-running to help him get open with Anthony Richardson as the passer.

Mitchell will ultimately start 2024 behind Alec Pierce but eventually should take the WR3 role. Look for Mitchell to continue showcasing great route-running and hands while improving with the Colts offense and learning from one of the greats, Reggie Wayne. I'm projecting Mitchell to receive 88 targets and snag 64 catches (72.7% catch rate). Along with the receptions, Mitchell will make some big plays and post 885 receiving yards 13.8 per catch) and six touchdowns.

Pittsburgh Panthers offensive lineman Matt Goncalves (76) blocks against the Duke Blue Devils.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

3.) Matt Goncalves: Starter at RG by End of 2024 Season

Similar to the Latu selection, many figured Indianapolis would use round three for a cornerback, safety, or another playmaker. However, they traded up in round three with the Arizona Cardinals to select Pittsburgh Panthers offensive tackle Matt Goncalves .

The versatile protector only played three games in 2023 due to a toe injury, but Indy felt the woes were in Goncalves' past, betting on the incredible upside of the former Panther .

79. #ColtsNation select OT Matt Goncalves, great size & frame, average athleticism & movement skills, great length, great play strength & power, good hand usage, good pass protector & run blocker, depth swing OT or OG that can become a starter, best in a power gap run scheme — Paul Perdichizzi (@paulie23ny) April 27, 2024

Goncalves has the talent to move inside at guard and help the Colts in multiple spots on the offensive line. With the talent and contract of left guard Quenton Nelson , the opportunity for Goncalves will be with Will Fries on the right.

Fries had a decent 2023 but is also playing around Pro Bowl and All-Pro talent. With how expensive the veterans are on the line, Indy likely won't want to pay Fries, opening the door long-term (and short) for Goncalves.

Given the pass-protecting abilities of Goncalves and his overall skillset, I can envision him beating out Fries at some point for the starting position. It's difficult to detail which game or scenario, but the current situation with upcoming contracts points to a big opportunity for Goncalves to live up to the third-round selection.

undefined

Oregon State Beavers wide receiver Anthony Gould (2) runs with the ball against the Stanford Cardinal.

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

4.) Anthony Gould: Score 2+ Return Touchdowns

The Colts selected their second receiver in round five (pick 142) by adding Oregon State’s Anthony Gould to the ranks . However, this selection is more to address the new kickoff rules, which have increased the importance of having a reliable returner. This is where the Gould pick will show fantastic value.

New #Colts WR Anthony Gould on his mindset as a returner: "Every time I'm back here, I'm gonna score." — James Boyd (@RomeovilleKid) April 27, 2024

Similar to former Colts receiver Isaiah McKenzie, Gould is around 5’8” and 170 pounds and has allure as a gadget player and returner . Look for Gould to get a big chance to show his value as a kick/punt returner, getting him involved in the gameplan sooner. As a Beaver for four years, Gould returned 26 punts for 423 yards (16.3 per return) and two scores. While Gould only saw one kick return, that won’t keep Indianapolis special teams coach Brian Mason from using him as a returner for both kicks.

With Gould’s 4.39-second speed and ability to make tacklers miss, I can envision him starting as the main returner and getting two, or more, kick/punt return touchdowns. The Colts haven’t had a deadly return option since Nyheim Hines; they have the opportunity to change that designation with Gould.

5.) Jaylon Carlies: Force 3+ Interceptions, Leading Colts LBs

Indianapolis continued addressing depth by selecting cover linebacker and former safety Jaylon Carlies in round five. While Carlies was slotted as a safety in Missouri, he will be converted to linebacker for Indianapolis. While Carlies has an undersized physique for a typical linebacker (6’2” and 225 pounds), so did former Colts linebacker and current assistant, Cato June.

June, who many believe Carlies is similar to , was a phenomenal cover linebacker for Indianapolis after being converted from safety. From 2003-2006, June grabbed 10 interceptions and 20 passes defended. He also had five picks with two defensive touchdowns in 2005, which notched June his only Pro Bowl. If Carlies can turn out to play like June did for Indy, the Colts are getting an incredible asset at linebacker.

If it all works out with Carlies joining E.J. Speed and Zaire Franklin , I can see turnovers being forced by Carlies. My prediction is Carlies will see sub packages, but should get around 50+ tackles and some good stops in run defense. However, I project he will get four interceptions as a rookie linebacker in 2024. This will remind Colts fans of June’s days in Indy and showcase Carlies’ talents as an asset in Gus Bradley’s scheme.

Now in the second month of the season, teams are gearing up for the state playoffs.

The best way to gauge how things are shaping up is by taking a look at the state’s power point system.

The NJSIAA baseball power point system will be used for all qualifying and seeding purposes. The power point procedure will use the top 16 highest power-point totals from opening day to the cutoff date regardless of how many games were played. The residual points earned from opponents will be calculated using your opponent’s first 16 games played.

Teams that play less than 16 games will still be eligible for the tournament based on their total power points achieved at the cutoff. Games completed after the cutoff date will not count even if they were started before the cutoff date.

The cutoff date to qualify for the state tournament is Saturday, May 18. The seeding committee will meet on Monday, May 20.

The first round of the state tournament for Non-Public schools is Wednesday, May 22, while public schools open on Thursday, May 23.

Non-Public state finals are set for Thursday, June 6, with all four public school finals on Saturday, June 6. All state finals are scheduled to be played at Veterans Park in Hamilton (Mercer County).
