Kenny Chesney asserts his baller status in sexy ‘Come Over’ video

Uproxx authors

Kenny Chesney’s music video for “Come Over” asserts that Kenny Chesney is very rich, very straight and is in very good shape.

The Shaun Silva-directed clip was shot in Miami, featuring what looks like Chesney’s own 60-foot yacht chugging around Miami. It co-stars a beautiful young woman who suffers from poverty, as she appears to own no clothes besides lingerie and bikinis.

The two tussle at the end over an apparent disagreement about the Euro’s decline and its effect on a “nanny state” economy, reinterpreted as a black-and-white perfume commercial. Not exactly safe for work.

The song sticks to a radio rock ballad format, but with Chesney’s deep twang on top. It’s the latest to arrive from “Welcome to the Fishbowl,”  which, as confirmed this week, will be the first record to be out via Chesney’s own newly minted imprint Blue Chair, in conjunction with Columbia . The album drops on June 19.

Chesney’s mega-outing with Tim McGraw — dubbed The Brothers of the Sun Tour — kicked off just this week.

Come Over by Kenny Chesney

Songfacts®:

  • The second single and opening track from Kenny Chesney's Welcome to the Fishbowl album was written by Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. It was sent to Country radio on May 14, 2012.
  • Chesney explained the song's meaning: "'Come Over'" is about two people who are as broken as their relationship is, when they realize deep down that their time together has probably ran its course, but they aren't really ready to emotionally or physically move on to something else," he said. "They keep going back to each other because it's familiar. It's about emotionally feeling wanted in a moment, but it feels impossible to let anybody else fill that void. It's a really sexy song with lyrics that are incredibly universal."
  • The song's video was filmed it off the coast of Florida and directed by Chesney's longtime collaborator Shaun Silva. "'Come Over' is the most intimate journey I've captured of Kenny in the 10 years we've been making music videos together," said the director. "It's clear within the first five seconds of this video that Kenny is committed to his character in the video and was more than willing to open up to the vulnerabilities associated with this tortured love story. The music video was finished in black-and-white, delivering a strikingly timeless and cinematic result." According to Chesney, this is a "classy booty call song," and the video has the same concept. He explained to CMT News: "We've all been in those situations when we know we're not going to [continue to] be with that person we have been with for a while. The relationship is over, done, run its course. But you aren't really ready to move onto somebody else emotionally, mentally or physically. So what do we do? We 'come over.' (Holds hand up to ear), 'I know you hate me and I hate you too ... but come over! We don't have to fix each other, so come over.' We know we're screwed up. So we took that situation and made the video. It's a very sexy video." Chesney owns the 86-foot Riva Domino speedboat that features in the video.
  • When the three songwriters first got together they didn't really have the song title or its concept in mind. However, Osborne explained to Taste of Country that Hunt, "sort of had that phrasing on the verse," so the trio "started jammin' on that." They, "talked about how it would be cool to have a song that kind of repeats the same chord progression throughout the whole song," he continued, "but change the melodies around it. So we started messing around with that verse, and we still didn't quite know what the hook was. It felt like the idea was these two people weren't together, but couldn't be apart." When the trio got to the chorus, they fell onto the "I told you I wouldn't call. I told you I wouldn't care" lyric, which they felt would be a cool opening line. "It was very rare that we wrote that long without having a title," said Osborne. "We got near the end of the chorus, and I think Shane said, 'What if it was just like a simple title like 'Come Over,' about these two people who know each other well, and finally the guy says to come over? But what if we said it a bunch of times like he was pleading with her?' Then we felt like we had something." Osborne concluded that the song, "just organically fell out." He added: "A lot of times you have an idea or you have a concept or a melody or some place that you start. All we really had was Sam's phrasing of the verse, but we loved the vibe of it. We just thought, 'Let's play with it for a while.'"
  • The song took 11 weeks to climb to the top of the Country chart, giving Chesney his 24th #1 hit.
  • Speaking with Billboard magazine, Sam Hunt recalled. "When I bought a guitar after graduating high school, one of his (Chesney's) songs was the first song I learned to play. It was a song called 'What I Needed to Do' and it was extra-special because I still have that same guitar and worked on 'Come Over' on that same guitar."
  • This was the first big hit that Sam Hunt contributed towards. At the time he was experimenting with ways to mix more modern beats and tones with the narrative and wordplay that define the best country music. Some of the other songwriters were sceptical, but when Chesney recorded this tune and it topped the country chart, he sensed that he was on to something. Hunt told Billboard : "When we wrote that song a lot of people told us that it wasn't a country song or that it couldn't work in country music and to have somebody as big as Kenny Chesney endorse that style and get it out there to people, that was huge as far as moving forward with that sound that I was working on."

The Boot

Kenny Chesney Extolls the Virtues of Boating

When Kenny Chesney has a little time off the road or from the recording studio, he is most likely out on the water in one of his boats. In fact, he recorded a song titled ' Boats ' for his ' Lucky Old Sun ' album, and it includes the lines, "vessels of freedom/harbors of healing," which is very apropos to how he feels when he's riding the waves.

"That line came from a gentleman and his daughter I met in St. Croix," Kenny explains in the June issue of Boating magazine. "I think anybody who has a boat has an emotional attachment to it. It has a way of healing a person and gives him a sense of freedom. That's where I feel the most freedom -- and it's helped me heal something that needed healing."

Kenny currently has two Sea Rays, a 56- and a 60-footer, although he admits he's a little bit more fond of the 60-foot boat. One of his favorite boating memories is right after he purchased his first vessel.

"My manager and some buddies and I left Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., says the superstar. "The idea was to drive as far as we could toward the Virgin Islands. We made it farther, all the way to Georgetown in the Cayman Islands. It was a very peaceful time, [and] I had a lot of people I loved with me."

When he has some time to spend on his boat near his beloved islands, Kenny says the day usually involves "a little bit of suntan oil, a whole lot of music, and at 2 o'clock it's usually a cold beer out of the cooler. At some point a guitar comes out, and I either write a song or I don't."

Kenny takes his love for boats to a new level by raising awareness and funds for the Coastal Conservation Association with a line of sunglasses he helped design with Costa Del Mar . The limited edition sunglasses are available in five styles named after some of Kenny's songs, including 'Poets and Pirates' and 'No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems.' They feature hand-drawn artwork etched inside the frames and are available during each stop of Kenny's Goin' Coastal tour. Kenny wanted to have a hand in the designs, because they reflect the lifestyle he and his fans live: the sun, the water and most definitely, the attitude.

The next stop on Kenny's Goin' Coastal tour is Friday (May 20) in Atlanta, Ga.

Kenny Chesney’s Journey: Prior Marriage with actress Renée Zellweger

The couple had a whirlwind romance, marriage and then annulment in less than one year.  After just four months of marriage, it was over. Their marriage was annulled and the two went their separate ways. Fraud was sited as the reason for the annulment. During a televised interview on  60 minutes  with Anderson Cooper, Chesney said that he and Zellweger jointly decided on the “fraud” option, believing it was less harmful than the other options of bigamy, insanity, or force. Chesney claims, “The only fraud that was committed was me thinking that I knew what it was like…that I really understood what it was like to be married, I really didn’t.”  Zellweger issued a statement clarifying that the term “fraud” was “simply legal language and not a reflection of Kenny’s character.” Chesney has no regrets about their relationship. He told  E! News , “I loved her, you know?  It was real.”

Since the split with Renee, Kenny has dated several people including Amy Colley and Mary Nolan.  He currently remains fairly private about his relationships and it is unclear if Mary Nolan is a serious relationship that will move to the next level.

Kenny Chesney Relationships

Kenny enjoys spending time on his Yacht.  His current boat is featured in his music video for “Come Over”).  His current Yacht is a Riva Domino that has a size range of 86′ – 92′.  The boat is a sleek stunner in the music video and a new version of this boat fully loaded is over $6M.  Below is an image of Kenny’s Riva Yacht and we can understand why he likes to escape to cruising on his boat.

Kenny Chesney  has been named 2020’s Country Radio Broadcasters (CRB) Artist Humanitarian Award recipient.  Chesney’s charitable work is far-reaching and approached in a quiet manner. His Love for Love City Foundation helped spearhead the rebuilding of St. John, following the devastation of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. In addition to humanitarian aid and working with local teams to facilitate physical clean-up and rebuilding, he and his core staff worked to rescue and relocate 2,000+ displaced animals of St. Thomas and St. John to several no-kill shelters and loving families in the United States.  All proceeds from his  Songs for the Saints  album, which featured Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Buffett, and Mindy Smith, went to the Love for Love City Foundation. Raising over $1.1 million to date, Songs continues to generate funds for St. John’s ongoing reconstruction work. Chesney also filled the St. John School for the Arts with a bounty of musical instruments, to inspire the children to go to school and be creative as they recovered from the disaster.

Seeing the bombing at the Boston Marathon, Chesney again embraced action. Working with the Boston Medical Center, he created the Spread the Love Fund to benefit amputee survivors, by selling special edition t-shirts as well as creating a place for donations, including turning a “Good Morning America” Summer Concert appearance into a fundraising opportunity. To date, Spread the Love has accrued over two million dollars – and the beneficiaries, as well as first responders, can often be seen at Chesney’s Gillette Stadium shows.

His ongoing commitment to ocean habitat conservation as a whole extends from his years spent on the water. No Shoes Reefs has helped rebuild coral reefs in Jacksonville, FL, as well as supported other local ocean ecology efforts around Florida and the Gulf Coast.

The boat is a keeper, the girl not so much. Though that butt is nice I'd rather ride the boat. Cedar any idea were it was filmed? Wonder why they shot it in black and white?

Cool vid, Kenny without a hat! Just wish that would have more of the boat and less of Courtney.

Video Location for pool and night scenes - Google Earth 26° 6'13.35"N 80° 7'3.11"W

The boat is Kenny's - purchased it right before filming began, unrelated to upcoming video shoot. How I know is irrelevant but I'm 100% positive it was his in the video.

the boat is kennys the house was a rental

I kinda doubt Kenny would own a boat like than and not have it re-named. Riva is the brand of boat. In the video you can see two people inside in a couple of the scenes where Kenny is on top driving.

As one of the only licensed women Captains that know how to handle a boat like this....I would love the opportunity to be part of the crew! Captain Karen 775-302-6287

Maybe Kenny wanted the Riva name on the boat and got a discount for making a 4 minute commercial for Riva. Then slapped "SS Chesney" on it after the vid.

kenny chesney come over yacht

Got it from a pretty good source out of Ft. Lauderdale that the Riva is still for sale. However there is a smaller Riva docked at Paradise Island same color and 63' and it just happens to be a place where Kenny often docked his SeaRay. But based on the source the boat in the video is not Kenny Chesney's. Just saying.

There are lots of boat that is on sale on Fort Lauderdale. But be sure to have your boat insured in the best insurance company like Boat Insurance Fort Lauderdale for your boat to prolong life.

This video is 100% perfect from start to finish; the yacht, Kenny of course, the model is fantastic in her simplicity, having Kenny's dog in the video, it's all just right-on! Kudos to the producer, photographer, and all involved. Love the black and white and slow motion effects!!! a perfect 10 if there ever was one!rds

The video is HAWT!!!! *whew* LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the yacht!!!! The black and white film, KC, and I want one of those swimsuits! (I'd gladly take the woman's place in this video!)

The Video, The Boat, Courtney, and Kenny was Perfect. More people need to Realize that Natural Women Are a dime a dozen. Courtney was perfect because she did not have make up piled on her to make her something shes not. Kenny picked the perfect Woman for this Video. Props to Everyone involved

Ive heard Kenny recently bought that house in the video

The vessel is absolutely amazing. Where can I purchase the paint used on it or find the paint code and brand?

12/14/2012 Key West The Boat's in Key West with a film crew and a Director with No hair. Is kenny in Key West? P.S. The Boat has a flag that says "No Shoes Nation".

Be more knowledgeable in watercraft. We should be aware of what we can do when incident happen. Accidents are prone in the sea and we should be aware of what could happen. It really is important for our own benefit. Watercraft Insurance Ft. Lauderdale

The boat? Beautiful. Courtney? Wouldnt mind hittin it!

This isn't a boat, it is a machine. It is his. I sold it to him. Just over $6 million.

The 86' Riva is not Kenny's. In fact, if you google the house they filmed at, you will find the boat docked at a neighbors house. Located on the south side of the same street. About 7 homes down.

I was taking the very over to St Johns on Jan 10, 2015. As we were pulling into St John the Riva was leaving and it sure did look like Kenny and he waved at our ferry. Its like I missed him by 20 minutes on shore. So sad.

That was NOT his boat.. It was a loner yacht just for this video.. Kenny Chesney's yacht at that time was a 63 foot Riva Virtus.. And the Riva used in the video is an 86' RIVA Domino..

Why. Was the girl in video. Kissing. Kenny Chesney. Alot. Kenny Chesney. Kissing. Her. In the video

With summer right around the corner,  Kenny Chesney ‘s showing fans how to make his Boat Captain Ben cocktail.

“Hey everybody, it’s Kenny. I am on a day off in the middle of the I Go Back Tour and there is not a cloud in the sky, and I’m just sitting here in the sun, having some fun, and I’m going to make what is called a Boat Captain Ben,” Kenny says in the opening of his  Twitter video,  before making the cocktail.

The recipe’s pretty simple. All you need is a bottle of Kenny’s Blue Chair Bay Coconut Rum and a can of sugar-free Red Bull. While Kenny mixes and sips the drink in his “mama’s fish house cup,” you, of course, are welcome to enjoy it from your cup of choice.

Kenny Chesney’s “Better Boat” Takes On A Whole New Meaning In Quarantine

kenny chesney come over yacht

I’ve been trying to make the most of my time at home during this crazy time of social distancing. I’ve done a lot of cleaning and organizing. Picked up some new and old hobbies. I’ve also done some self-reflection. I mean, what else are you supposed to do when you live alone with two dogs?

Yesterday, I was just letting music shuffle while I was cleaning, and Kenny Chesney’s “Better Boat” started playing. As soon as I heard the first few lines, I immediately stopped what I was doing and went to sit down beside the speaker.

“I ain’t lonely, but I spend a lot of time alone. More than I’d like to, but I’m okay with staying home. My how the last few months have changed.”

This was my favorite song on Songs for the Saints record and I listened to it many times when it came out in the summer of 2018. That was a weird time for me, as it was about nine months after my dad passed away, so the song was really fitting. I stopped listening to it as time I went on, I haven’t heard it in a long time.

When I heard it again yesterday, it sounded completely different. Or maybe I heard it through fresh ears. Either way, it hit me really hard. Initially, I thought about myself and what I was doing during this time to improve myself before we go back to our normal crazy lives. I thought about how I was I was learning to build a better boat.

Since then, I have been thinking about how the world is learning how to build a better boat. I have quickly realized this song is accurately describing all of society in its current state.

Here are a few pieces of the song that have become freakishly relatable to our current world:

“I spend a lot of time alone, more than I’d like to, but I’m okay with staying home.”

Based on what I’m seeing from social media, people really struggle at being alone and staying home. Even if you’re not actually “alone,” maybe you’re with family or roommates or your significant other, it’s still very different than being with the rest of the world. Maybe people are going to get more comfortable spending time by themselves or at least get a better understanding of why they are so uncomfortable alone. Or at least, maybe they will appreciate the time they get to spend with others a little bit more.

“I’m smiling more despite the pain.”

This is a terrifying time in the world and it’s going to be devastating to so many people’s lives, but I almost feel like people have started to see the silver linings in things more than they were before. People are finding joy in simple things and they’re thankful to just be healthy.

“Got friends to call who let me talk about what ain’t workin, what’s still hurtin’, all the things I feel like cussin’ out.”

I personally have been calling, Facetiming, and Zoom-ing with friends more than I ever have before. Of course, some of which I would have seen in person and I wouldn’t have had to call. But I’m also connecting with old friends that I haven’t “had time” to catch up with in a long time. This seems to be true for many others, as well. I hope this strengthens relationships and everyone can get together face to face when it’s all over.

“I hate waiting, ain’t no patience in these hands.”

We live in a rush, rush, rush kind of society. Everything needs to be done right this second. No one wants to wait for anything. It’s kind of crazy that the only think we can do right now is to stay inside our homes and wait. That’s how we can have the biggest impact on the world, is to stop and wait. Maybe after this is over, we can slow down a little bit more and not be in such a hurry to move on.

“Now and then I let it go, I ride the waves I can’t control. If it’s workin’, I don’t know. When I get done, the thing may not float, but I’m learnin’ how to build a better boat.”

I think the hardest part of this whole thing is having no control on what’s happening. We have no say, there is so little that we can do, and it’s completely out of our hands. There’s no one to blame and we don’t really know how to fix it. We just have to ride it out and do the few things we know to be beneficial for everyone. Maybe this will help people be more okay with not knowing what’s going to happen or feeling okay not being able to control every detail of every situation.

Kenny said the Songs for the Saints album was inspired by another devastating disaster, Hurricane Irma, and the rebuilding process. Travis Meadows and Liz Rose wrote this song, it was fitting then, and it is still so needed in this current moment. We are going to be in another rebuilding process after this pandemic subsides.

If you’ve spent any of this down time doing any kind of thinking about what kind of a person you are or what your life looks like or what you’re grateful for, you might relate. If you haven’t done any of those things yet, I encourage you to take a fresh listen to this song in the current climate of the world.

We’re all in this together and we’re all learning how to build a better boat.
