Valor Yacht Uncovered: The Inside Scoop on Design & Features

Few yachts have had such a whirlwind of existence as the Valor, which had been around the block once or twice. The yacht was built in 1990 by Feadship yacht builders and was designed by De Voogt Naval Architecture. She has a steel hull over an aluminum superstructure.

The interior design was handled by McMillen Design. Since its launch in 1990, it has undergone name changes, owner changes, and a reasonably prolific run as one of the yachts featured on the popular series Below Deck, which appeared in seasons 4, 5, and 7.

After the 2015 refit, the yacht got a Hampton Beach House-themed interior styled by Taylor Hannah Architect. However, the 2021 refit made further changes to the interior as well. 

Who Owns the Valor Yacht?

Originally the yacht known as Valor was owned by Microsoft Paul Allen, who is no stranger to yachts and also owned the yacht known as Octopus . However, Allen would later gift the Valor to his sister Jodi Allen. From Allen, it changed hands again to its current owner Bobby Genovese, BG Capital Group’s founder and CEO. 

Genovese repurchased the yacht in 2014 and had her refitted in 2015. It looks like she may have also undergone a second refit in 2021.

How Many Names Had the Valor Yacht Had?

So here’s the weird thing about the Valor. It’s not called the Valor, and technically never was. Confusing, right? When the yacht was commissioned in 1990, it was known as the Charade. That seems to be the name it held when Jodi Allen took over ownership from her brother.

Fast forward to 2014, and Bobby Genovese takes ownership. What did he name it? BG. So where did Valor come from? It’s an alias. On the show Below Deck, they often make up fake names for the yachts that appear. Like an actor taking a role, a real yacht plays a fake one on the show, possibly to hide any identifying features about the vessel in case people are trying to track it and interfere with filming. Other yachts like My Seanna did the same thing (that one was called Starship).

So, technically, it was never the Valor, but that is still how fans of the show would recognize it. In real life, it changed from Charade to its current name, BG.

How Big is the Valor Yacht/Yacht BG?

The BG measures in at 153 ’10”, which makes her a large yacht for sure, but quite a ways away from the largest yachts in the world . In terms of width, she has a beam of 28′ 11″ and a draft of 9′ 6″. Her gross tonnage is just 515 GT.

How Much Did Motor Yacht BG Cost?

Details on what Paul Allen may have spent back in 1990 are pretty hard to come by, so it’s hard to say what the yacht cost when it was built initially. Her current value has been estimated at between $15 million and $16 million. It’s also believed that the yacht has an annual running cost of around $2 million. 

Can You Charter Yacht BG?

The yacht Valor/BG is available for charter for those who want to taste the luxury yacht life one week at a time. Charter prices vary based on the time of year, and winter prices are always cheaper than summer ones. A week on the BG in the winter will set you back about $155,000 US plus expenses. In the summer, that will go up to $168,000 per week. This difference is pretty standard for most charter yachts. Yacht owners need to make their money back for operating costs, and the more in demand a yacht is during the charter season, the more crew members expect to get paid, and so on.

How Fast is the Yacht BG and What Engines Does It Use?

Powered by twin 905 hp Caterpillar 3508 DITA d diesel engines, the BG can cruise at 13 knots and reach 15 knots. With her 70,000-liter fuel tank, she has a range of about 5,000 nautical miles at cruising speed. 

What’s the Interior of the Valor Yacht/BG Yacht Like?

Because the Valor/BG was so heavily featured on Below Deck and is now a charter yacht, there have been lots of looks inside the yacht to show it off over the years. 

Regarding accommodations for charter guests, the Valor has room for 12 guests in 6 suites. This includes a master suite on the main deck, one VIP cabin, two double cabins, and two cabins that can operate as twins or doubles. There are eight beds, including two kings and two queens. There’s also room on board for a crew of 10.

The master suite is a full beam with walk-in closets and an ensuite bathroom. The bathroom even features a two-person shower.

Outside of rooms, there are many other features and amenities to enjoy. After the 2021 refit, owner Bobby Genovese said, “Everything that could have been done to the boat has been done.” That included new paint, new toys, and upgraded technology throughout.

The new look includes a lot of soft and clean design touches. White is used extensively throughout, as well as light gray tones. This is contrasted with darker wood to give a clean and modern look. Overall, the aesthetic throughout the cabins and living spaces is minimalist, without too many overt touches of any particular style that some may find off-putting. It has the look of a modern hotel in many ways, providing that feeling of a luxury getaway from the usual, everyday sense of being at home, for instance.

Symmetry was also a big part of the interior design. Precise and easily navigated angles and layouts made getting around the yacht easy for guests and crew alike. This includes the layout of fixtures and furniture so that everything is streamlined with no surprises and a natural, intuitive design.

Features and Amenities

Like any suitable yacht, especially a yacht charter, the Valor has toys and amenities to entice people to spend those big bucks and enjoy a week at sea. Look at some of the most exciting features you’ll find on board.

The Bottom Line

The yacht Valor was only known by that name on the Show Below Deck. In real life, it started as the Charade after it was built in 1990 and was renamed BG, a name that it still holds as a charter yacht. 

Bobby Genovese owns the BG and measures 153 ’10”. It can accommodate 12 guests and features many amenities, including a giant inflatable water slide, a deck jacuzzi, and an aft deck cinema. The yacht is worth around $15 million, and a charter will cost you between $155,000 per week and $162,000, depending on season and availability.

Currently impressing audiences each week on Below Deck , the 47m/154ft motor yacht BG - disguised as superyacht VALOR- is well worth taking a closer look at.

Showing chief stew Kate Chastain the treats to be found in the generously stocked tender garage, as well as the fun to be had on the gym equipment up on the sundeck, deckhand Nico Scholly certainly steals the show in the latest behind the scenes footage of Below Deck.

Indeed, moving through the various communal areas on board superyacht VALOR, the deckhand unquestionably goes a long way towards revealing the options on offer to this season’s charter guests as they cruise around the British Virgin Islands .

'BG' feadship Superyacht

This 33-year-old superyacht ‘BG’ comes from the world-renowned Dutch shipyard Feadship and features their classic exterior lines. She was built back in 1990 at their De Vries shipyard in the Netherlands and has since undergone refits in 2015 and 2022. She has a length of 46.9m, a beam of 8.8m and she sits in the water with a 2.9m draft.  

This world cruiser has a steel mono hull, topped by an aluminium superstructure. Her design and naval architecture is the work of award-winning Frits De Voogt. With a gross tonnage of 515, she is propelled through the water by her twin CAT 3508 DITA diesel engines (905 hp each) at a top speed of 15 knots. When cruising at 12 knots she has a max range of 5000 nautical miles with a fuel capacity of 69,800 litres. 

Her interior design was the work of New York based McMillen Design, and her later reconfiguration is courtesy of Toronto based Dee Dee Taylor Eustace, founder of Taylor Hannah Architect Inc. She features high-end finishes in dark woods contrasted against refreshing bright whites, creating a beach house vibe that’s straight out of the Hamptons.  

BG can accommodate 12 guests in 6 spacious luxury cabins. The Master cabin and VIP cabin are full beam and are situated on the main deck. The 4 guest cabins are situated on the lower deck. All cabins have en suite bathrooms. She also has accommodation for 11 experienced crew members. 

In amongst the meticulous craftsmanship, notable state-of-the-art amenities include an outdoor deck jacuzzi, a gym, outdoor projector screen, a hydraulic swim platform, plus an exquisite wine cellar in the salon containing 120 bottles.  

    BG boasts a plethora of water toys to entertain guests of all ages. She offers 2x Yamaha jet skis, waterskis, inflatable climbing wall and waterslides, paddleboards, kneeboards and wakeboards, kayaks, snorkelling equipment, plus 4x F5 seabobs. She also has 2 tenders on board; a 9.8m Intrepid Tender and a 5.5m Novurania Tender. 

BG was previously named Charade. She is Feadship’s 110th-largest yacht, and she is the 1181st-largest yacht in the world. In 2016 she was a finalist in The World Superyacht Awards for ‘best refitted/rebuilt yacht’. Not only that, but she is a TV star after appearing in several seasons of Below Deck where she was named Valor for the show. 

BG stands for the owner's initials; Bobby Genovese, a Canadian self-made businessman. The entrepreneur is the founder of BG Capital Management Corporation, BG Signature, and BG Capital Group Ltd. Back in 2014, the motor yacht was purchased for 11,990,000 USD. Then in 2022, the motor yacht was for sale with an asking price of 16,900,000 USD. She has since arrived at the prestigious marina at Sentosa Cove, Singapore, where she moors outside the distinguished ONE°15 yacht club.

After the success of the original Below Deck seasons shot in the Caribbean and Polynesia on the Bravo TV channel with several spinoff: Below Deck Mediterranean , Below Deck Adventure , Below Deck Sailing Yacht and Below Deck Down Under .

The yachts of the “main” Below Deck seasons

Motoryacht honor : below deck 1st season.

Honor is a 163,8 feet Benetti superyacht, appearing in the first season of the TV show. Her actual name is now Lumiere but was before Sotavento and Cuor di Leone. In the show, the ship was captained by Lee Rosbach around Sint Marteen .

Launched in 1999 and refitted in 2010 and 2020, she accommodates up to 12 guests in 6 cabins. She offers a stunning deskspace with a sprawling sundeck, jacuzzi, outdoor cinema, and a wide range of water toys.

Motoryacht Honor is available for charter from $189,000 per week in the Mediterranean and Motoryacht Honor last selling price was $15,900,000.

Motoryacht Ohana : 2nd season Below Deck

Ohana from a real name Rhino appears in the second season shot in BVI.

This stunning 154′ superyacht has beautiful decks, a stunning outdoor sundeck, and a horseshoe outdoor bar . Launched as Roxanan by Admiral Marine in 1998, she gets a total refit in a modern look after having been showcased.

Accommodating up to 10 guests and 10 crew, she offers a 6 person jacuzzi and a sundeck with a huge barbecue grill.

Motoryacht Honor Ohana was last sold for $9,995,000, you can charter her from $140,000 per week in the Caribbean or North America .

Motoryacht Eros : Below Deck season 3

Eros or Stay Salty (ex. Mustang Sally) appears in the famous TV show in the 3rd season shot in the Bahamas . The shipyard Trinity Yachts built this 161-foot superyacht in 2008 for Tim Hortons founder. Geoff Vann Aller took care of the exterior design. 

She can accommodate up to 12 guests and 10 crew members and offers a beautiful tri-deck with a saloon and sky-lounge jacuzzi.

Motoryacht Eros charter price starts from $175,000, but she isn’t currently available. Motoryacht Eros was last sold for $17,900,000.

Valor, the big star, in Below Deck seasons 4, 5 and 7

Valor is the most recurring yacht in Below Deck appearing in seasons 4,5 and 7 respectively shot in the US Virgin Islands, in Saint-Martin, and Phuket in Thailand . 

This 154-foot superyacht built by Feadship in 1990 accommodates up to 12 guests and 11 crew members. Designed by Frits De Voogt, her real name is BG from her owner Bobby Genovese.

With a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges, boutique hotel-inspired interior, and a wide range of water toys, her weekly charter price starts at $168,000 by winter in the Caribbean and from $170,500 by summer in the Mediterranean.

Motoryacht Valor was bought in 2014 for $11,990,000.

Motoryacht My Seanna in seasons 6, 8 and 9 of Below Deck

My Seanna is the yacht you see in the 6th and 8th seasons sailing around Tahiti in Polynesia (6th season) and Antigua (8th season). Built-in 2000 by Delta Marine, she is 184,97’ in length. Key features include onboard cinema, jacuzzi, and spacious beach club.

Motoryacht My Seanna weekly charter ranges from $294,000 in the Caribbean and Motoryacht My Seanna purchase price is about $21,900,000.

Motoryacht St Davis in Below Deck season 10 and 11

The motoryacht St Davis is the star of the latest two Below Deck seasons, including the 11th scheduled to air in February 2024.

While the 10th Below Deck season happened in the very scenic St Lucia, you will see the St Davis in the non less scenic Grenada for the 11th season.

For the yacht enthusiasts, the St Davis is a 197ft (60m) motoryacht by the Benetti shipyard that can be rented from $325,000 / week in the Caribbean. Her last purchase price was at 22,5 million euros.

Yachts featured in Below Deck Mediterranean (spin off)

Motoryacht ionian princess in below deck mediterranean season i.

Ionian Princess was named from the TV show itself when she appears in the first season of Below Deck Mediterranean shot in Greece .

The 150’ was built by the shipyard Christensen, launched in 2005, and last refitted in 2016. She can host up to 12 guests in 6 different cabins and features a stunning and chic design interior, and a sundeck with a jacuzzi.She is listed for sale at $13,750,000 and can be chartered for $175,000 per week but she isn’t currently available.

Sirocco in Below Deck Mediterranean seasons 2 and 4

Sirrocco is a 154,2 feet superyacht launched in 2006 by the shipyard Heesen. She appears in the second and the fourth seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean shot respectively in Croatia and France.

Sirocco accommodates 12 guests who can enjoy an 8 pax jacuzzi and striking exterior and sundeck. She features an African chic interior and impressive design and amenities. She also offers a nice range of water toys.

Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean from $219,000 per week during the low season and she is estimated at around $18 million.

Talisman Maiton in Below Deck Mediterranean season 3

You can watch Talisman Maiton, built and launched in 2006 by Proteksan Turquoise, in the third season of Below Deck in the Mediterranean shot in Italy . 

Named for an island in Thailand, her interior is inspired by Asian influences, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. 

With her 177 feet length, she is suited for housing 12 guests in six rooms in addition to a 13 person crew. She features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.

Her weekly charter starts from $281,500 in the Mediterranean. In 2019, her selling asking price was about $18 million.

The Wellington in the fifth season of Below Deck Mediterranean

The Wellington, from her real name The Wellesley, is a beautiful 184,5 feet Oceanco built-in 2013. This superyacht is owned by Khalid Affara. Donald Starkey recreates with his design the grandeur of the Wellesley Hotel in Knightsbridge. She accommodates up to 12 guests.

Showcased in the 5th season of Below Deck Mediterranean shot in Spain , her charter price goes from $280,000 to $304,500 per week in the Mediterranean.

Lady Michelle in Below Deck Mediterranean 6th season

Lady Michelle is the star of the 6th season of Below Deck Mediterranean shot in Croatia. Her previous names were Cakewalk, Altitude, and Amnesia.

With her 180’, this Benetti superyacht accommodates 12 guests in 6 cabins. Launched in 2003, she got two refits in 2016 and 2018. Lady Michelle features elegant interiors and a spacious aft deck with open lounging, seating, and dining areas. She also offers a vast sundeck with a spa pool and gymnasium, but also a wide range of water toys.

Lady Michelle is available to charter from $275,000 in the Caribbean. She is estimated to $19,5 million.

“Home” motoryacht in the 7th Season of Below Deck Mediterranean

If Home is where the heart is, then the motoryacht “home” is surely the home of many yacht enthusiasts.

This 50m motoryacht built by Heesen truly shined during the 7th season of Below Deck in Malta and her modern interior and features were well highlighted.

Home is available for charter from $245,000 / week , and the purchase price is at €29,500,000.

Mustique motoryacht in the 8th season of Below Deck Mediterranean

The 8th season of Below Deck Mediterranean embarked on the Italian riviera onboard Mustique, a 55m (180ft) motoryacht by Trinity Yachts.

Mustique features an impressive retro interior and spacious outdoor areas that truly shine when combined with the Mediterranean coast of that particular season.

Mustique can be chartered from €230,000 / week . Her last asking price for sale was at $19,000,000.

For this new serie filled with adventure, Below Deck picked the motoryacht Mercury, ex Malibu and Kermit, to explore the Fjords Norway is famous for.

Mercury is a 50m motoryacht built by the dutch shipyard Amels, and designed by Terence Disdale.

She can accomodate up to 12 guests and 12 crew onboard. No doubt, that should be enough for this new exciting season.

Mercury is available for charter from $170,000 a week . Her current selling price is $13,500,000 .

Thalassa was the vessel of choice for the Australian Spin off of Below Deck. The real name of the yacht isn’t actually Thalassa but Keri Lee III.

The 181ft (55m) yacht was built by the American shipyard Trinity Yachts and features amenities such as a gym, a jacuzzi and 6 magnificent cabins. The perfect vessel to sail in style the waters of Northeastern Australia.

Northern Sun: the yacht in Below Deck Down Under Season 2

Below Deck Down Under season 2 explored the coasts around Cairns, the gateway to access the great barrier reef and the Whitsunday Islands.

Who Owns The ‘Valor’ Yacht?

The Valor Yacht – aka ‘BG Charade’ – is one of the mechanical superstars of TV’s Below Deck, but who actually owns it?

Bobby Genovese is the owner of the Valor yacht. However, its real name is the BG Charade. He’s owned the yacht since 2015 when he purchased it for a rumored $15,000,000.

When it comes to the toys of the super-rich, there are few more prestigious than a yacht. They’re massively expensive modes of transport that are equipped with the latest in luxurious technology.

Most modern-day yachts are so unique that each one adopts its own personality and following. They’re characters in their own right, bursting at the seams with world-class design and production quality. 

In 2013, a cutting-edge reality show burst onto screens worldwide. The show, Below Deck, followed staff aboard the most luxurious yachts in the world.

It was a hit, and by 2020 would be entering its eighth season. The fans of the show adored seeing the finer side of life provided by the floating palaces. 

This show is where the Valor yacht first cropped up , at least in the public eye. The show reportedly raised the profile of the yacht massively, much to the delight of the owner.

That owner was Bobby Genovese , a Canadian entrepreneur with a net worth of $300 million. When he purchased the BG Charade (as it is truly named) in 2015, he paid an alleged $15 million.

Before Genovese, the gorgeous superyacht was owned by Microsoft co-founder, Paul Allen. 

Conception of Luxury

The Valor yacht started life in the Netherlands, being built in the shipyards of the masters, Feadship. They put themselves forward as one of the most elite yacht building organizations in the world.

They constructed the Valor way back in 1990, meaning the craft has some years under its belt. When Genovese acquired her in 2015, he performed a complete refitting, inside and out.

When it comes to the technology and amenities within the Valor, the list is near-endless . The yacht boasts air conditioning, jacuzzis, a gym, a gaming room, and full internet and satellite technology.

It’s described as having a ‘Hamptons-style’ interior; a clean, airy, and immaculate appearance. Only the finest materials were used in the construction of the Valor. 

These yachts are built in a similar fashion to houses and hotels. Throughout the construction process, architects and interior designers were consulted.

The craft itself is quite simply enormous and boasts an incredible presence. It’s over forty-six meters in length and weighs more than five hundred tons. 

One of the most amazing things about the Valor yacht isn’t the size or even the luxurious fittings. It’s the fact that you can actually charter the craft for yourself, for a vacation or cruise. 

This is, after all, the premise of the show, Below Deck. Anyone with the upfront capital can charter the Valor, usually sailing around Florida and out across the Bahamas. 

However, the cost to charter the Valor will take your breath away. The base cost is around $170,000 per week . 

You have to bear in mind that this is just the cost to charter the yacht. You will also have to pay for provisions such as fuel, food, taxes, docking fees and even staffing. 

There are ‘yacht brokers’ who can arrange the charter, you just need to have a huge wallet. It’s a competitive business, and you can end up being provided a string of extras.

For example, you might set sail equipped with onboard jet-skis, or water ski equipment. Some passengers opt for water slides or snorkeling equipment. 

Of course, it isn’t just the Valor that can be chartered. There are dozens – if not hundreds – of yachts around the world, ripe for the taking. 

According to worldwideboat.com , some yachts (smaller ones) can be chartered for as little as $20,000. However, the other end of that spectrum can easily climb up over half a million dollars a week. 

If you’re lucky enough – and rich enough – you can join the ranks with your own yacht. There are countless celebrities that boast their own floating mansions.

You could join Johnny Depp, Rafael Nadal, Steven Spielberg, or Richard Branson. They all boast the finest of ocean-faring vessels.

It’s something to save up for, perhaps.

48m Feadship motor yacht BG Charade now for sale with Cecil Wright

The 47.7 metre Feadship motor yacht BG Charade - that starred in the reality series Below Deck under the pseudonym Valor - has had a change of central agent and is now listed for sale with Henry Goulding of Cecil-Wright.

Built in steel and aluminium by Dutch yard Feadship to a design by De Voogt and Lloyds classed, she was delivered in 1990 and underwent a major refit in 2015. Worked was valued at over $6 million and saw her receive a ‘Hampton Beach House’ interior accommodating up to 12 guests in six generous cabins consisting of a full beam master suite and VIP suite on the main deck with four further guest cabins below deck. 

The spaces feature Taylor Hannah's signature chic contemporary style in a muted grey and white palette, creating a sophisticated ambience with accents of colour via artwork and soft furnishings.

The main saloon on board this yacht for sale benefits from comfortable seating with sea views and adjoins a dining area with a rosewood table and a wine cellar containing 120 bottles. The upper deck offers a panoramic lounge with a large bar, a captain's cabin with an office and the pilothouse forward. 

The upper saloon was reconfigured in the 2015 refit to create a multi-purpose entertaining space, and as all furniture is modular, this can be easily reconfigured for sunbathing, alfresco dining, entertaining with cocktails or relaxing with a film which can be viewed via an impressive 102-inch screen deployed from a built-in cabinet. Guests of all ages will be fully occupied during the day by a complete suite of water toys from the massive starboard-mounted climbing wall and water slide to a fleet of water toys.

BG Charade is powered by twin 905hp Caterpillar engines giving a cruising speed of 12 knots and she is fitted with zero speed stabilisers for added comfort. She also received a significant technical upgrade in 2022 and is ready to cruise the world or enter the charter market with a crew of up to eleven. She is offered for sale following a technical refit in 2022.

BG Charade is asking $16,900,000.
