Dock Location: Located directly behind the Hyatt Regency Miami Hotel in Downtown Miami, at 400 SE 2nd Ave. Miami, FL 33140. *See Image Below*

Ample Parking is available adjacent to the James L. Knight International Center in the 1,450 space Knight Center / Miami Tower garage operated by Miami Parking Systems. Once on the hotel drive, valet parking will be on your left. For self-parking, bear to the right and take the next right into the Knight Center / Miami Tower garage. An additional 1500 spaces are accessible within two blocks.

Valet parking is owned by the Hyatt Regency Miami and operated by Central Parking Systems. Please note that we do not validate or offer any discounted rates for valet.

Party Responsibly: Please Do Not Drink & Drive. Opt for ride share - use Uber or Lyft.

Please Note: This Party Cruise is expected to follow the CDC Guidelines with social distancing and masks when necessary. All staff will have necessary PPE for excellent clean service. We look forward to partying with you responsibly. If event is cancelled due to Covid-19, you'll be refunded.

Additional Information

No alcohol, open containers or outside food is permitted. No illegal drugs or controlled substances, including prescription drugs and marijuana, will be tolerated. Using marijuana on the water is illegal, regardless of medical condition(s). The use and/or possession of illegal drugs or controlled substances is absolutely prohibited by the US Coast Guard.

Yacht Company holds a zero tolerance policy related to illegal substances aboard all vessels and anyone who is caught participating or processing any such items will not be allowed to board and substances will be confiscated.

If you are thought to be under the influence of, or caught participating in, illegal substances on board, you will be quarantined until the boat can safely return to dock - the cruise is subject to end for all guests immediately upon doing so; no refunds will be issued under any circumstances. PURCHASE POLICY

NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES. ALL SALES FINAL: There are NO REFUNDS, NO CANCELLATIONS, no credits, no exchanges, and no transfers after the order has been made.

Credit Card & ID:

You must present the original credit card used to purchase the ticket and a valid Government Issued Photo Identification (along with your e-tickets that have been emailed to you via Eventbrite when your order was placed): the name on both the credit card and ID match the name on your purchased tickets, in order to gain entry to the event. If the name on the Credit Card and/or ID does not match the tickets, or if you do not have both the credit card used to make the purchase and government issued identification, you will be denied entry to event without a refund.

If you encounter a problem at the event, you must file a complaint with Promoter within 5 calendar days following the date of the event; failure to contact Promoter within the 5-day period will be a complete waiver of your right to request compensation whether monetary or otherwise. Purchase Policy:

By placing an order, you are confirming that you received this policy and are agreeing to abide by the clauses within. This Purchase Policy is a binding contract between you and event Promoter.

Event Booking:

By purchasing a ticket, package or reservation you're entitled to entry to event you're purchasing it for. At the time of your order, Eventbrite will place an order for your ticket(s) in the Promoter’s ticketing system, reducing the number of tickets available for the chosen event. Before purchasing your ticket(s) we urge you to confirm the title, time and location of the event(s) you wish to attend, as there are no refunds. Each event has a definitive date, start time and end time. If you do not show up to the event, you understand that you are forfeiting your ticket(s) and therefore your ticketing fee (the entirety of what you paid) will not be returned to you. If you do not attend your event, you're still 100% financially liable for your purchase. If you cannot attend event, you will not receive refund.

Alcohol, Seating, Food:

There is no seating or food; unless otherwise stated in event listing. If food is provided; then it is a ‘first come, first served basis,’ unless the event listing or ticket description clearly states that it is available for a specific time period or for entire event duration. If the event description states there is food for any period during the event, and there is no food available when you choose to eat, please know that the venue is replenishing the food. If you have waited for an extended period of time and the food has not been replenished, please contact venue management at the event for an estimated time that the food will be ready for you. If there are periods of time when food is not available for you due to the venue replenishing said food, no matter how long the wait(s), such is not grounds for a refund. Please contact us with any questions.

Event Cancellations:

If the event is canceled you will receive a refund for the face value of the ticket.

No Refunds:

Unforeseen circumstances beyond promoter’s control will not be grounds for a refund, including but not limited to the following: local or national weather conditions, natural disasters, waiting in lines, extended waits in lines, family emergencies, medical emergencies, employment issues including layoffs, traffic, parking, public or private transportation issues, etc. If you purchased for the incorrect date, location, event, etc, promoter is not obligated to provide a refund, credit, exchange or transfer. If cancellation or transfer request is approved, promoter reserves the right to charge a $10 administrative fee for its time, in addition to charging a $10 restocking fee per ticket if tickets are placed back on sale. Promoters, Venue Owners, Venue Management, Security, Event Staff, and other agents of the event, have the right to refuse entry to any ticket-holder, without a refund, for any reason at their discretion , including but not limited to: disorderly behavior, failing to comply with the rules of the venue, incorrect attire, intoxication, venue capacity, breach of security, and other restrictions. Ticket-holder is aware that the Venue and Talent are subject to change without notice, which are not grounds for a refund. Ticket-holder is aware that amenities promised by Promoter are not guaranteed, and are not grounds for a refund, including but not limited to: VIP amenities, drink specials, drink tickets, gifts, express entry, special areas, celebrity guests, etc. Dissatisfaction with any aspect of the event is not grounds for a refund, including but not limited to: music, DJ(s), decorations or lack thereof, party favors or lack thereof, beverages or lack thereof, alcohol selection, bar staff, food availability and selection, fellow patrons/attendees, venue staff, event staff, security, performances, ambiance, amenities, venue, check-in process, seating or lack of seating, wait in lines, emergency closures of event, emergency return of boats or yachts, delayed commencing of events, early ending of events, public amenities such as fireworks or public performances or the lack thereof, line of sight of public amenities such as fireworks or public performances being blocked by trees, buildings, boats, people, and/or other things, etc.

Release of Liability:

By purchasing the tickets through Eventbrite, you hereby release and forever discharge Promoter from any liability or claims for damages that may arise as a result of your attendance at, and voluntary participation in, the event(s), including claims for personal injury, or damage to personal property, or any other claims for negligence on the part of the event’s Promoter. By purchasing the tickets through Eventbrite for this event, you hereby release and forever discharge event Promoter, and their officers and agents, from any liability or claims for damages that may arise as a result of your attendance and participation at the event(s). It is hereby understood that the purchase of tickets by you and your participation in the events shall not be construed as an assumption on the part of Promoter of responsibility, liability, or control of the events.

By Purchasing tickets for this event, ticket purchaser agrees to indemnify and hold harmless event Promoter, said entities officers, owners, employees, and agents, from and against all claims, damages, losses and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees arising out of or by reason of complying with this Indemnity Clause. Ticket purchaser, their heirs, executors, administrators, successors and assigns, hereby release, remise, and forever discharge event Promoter and its entities owners, officers, employees and agents, from all manner of actions, causes of actions, suits, debts, judgments, executions, claims, demands whatsoever, known or unknown, in law or equity, which ticket-holder has ever had, now have, may have, or claim against event Promoter.

Collections & Legal Action Against Debt:

Once you make a purchase, if those funds are removed from the Promoter's account and given back to you, you owe the Promoter that money back, plus applicable fees as outlined below. If you owe money to Promoter, Promoter reserves the right to take legal action against you and/or send you to collections for the recovery of said debt. If you are sent to collection or there is legal action taken against you, you are fiscally responsible for any and all legal costs and fees, directly associated and/or indirectly associated, with recovering the debt owed by you. Promoter's collection’s agencies reserve the right to negatively affect your personal credit score until your debt is paid. Once an account has been placed in collections, the only way to get yourself out of Collections is to pay the debt owed by you to the collections agency.

Arbitration Agreement:

In the event there are any legal disputes against Promoter, by agreeing to this Purchase Policy, you agree that such disputes will be arbitrated. You further agree that the location of arbitration will be set in Los Angeles County, California.

Severability:

If any clause, aspect, part or provisions of this Purchase Policy is found to be null, void, illegal or otherwise unenforceable, the rest of this Purchase Policy remains in full binding effect, and the unenforceable provision(s) shall be deemed modified to the limited extent required to permit the enforcement of said clause that required modification and of the agreement as a whole.

How Elon Musk Chose Trump

The world’s richest man, once deeply skeptical of Donald J. Trump, has now endorsed him and has emerged as a central character in the presidential race.

A little over two months ago, Elon Musk found himself at Montsorrel , the palatial Palm Beach compound of Nelson Peltz, the famed activist investor. Mr. Musk knew the sprawling grounds well, having stayed in the guesthouse.

The topic of conversation was a bit different than usual, though: Mr. Peltz had brought together a group of billionaire conservative financiers — including Steve Wynn, the Las Vegas casino magnate, and the hedge-funder John Paulson — to dive into concerns about whether Republicans could seize Senate control, as well as the party’s weak ground game, according to a person with direct knowledge of what transpired.

But Mr. Musk had a darker message that spring day. He told the group that this would be the last free election in America — because if President Biden won, millions of undocumented immigrants would be legalized and democracy would be finished, according to the person.

Mr. Trump had to win, Mr. Musk said. He dispensed some advice for the veteran financiers, who had decades more experience in Republican politics than he did: Their emphasis on political advertising was misplaced, he said. Tesla, his electric car company, barely advertises, he said, but had still built a cult following through word of mouth. Why couldn’t Republicans do the same?

The most important thing that the financiers could do, Mr. Musk said, was ask two people to support Mr. Trump, and urge them to ask two more. Two people by two people — that’s how the former president would win.

Mr. Musk has transformed himself from an idealistic supporter of Democrats like Barack Obama into a fierce ally of Mr. Trump, whom he flirted with for months and endorsed last weekend roughly 30 minutes after the former president survived an assassination attempt.

In fact, Mr. Trump’s campaign at one point had talked with Mr. Musk about him delivering remarks at this week’s Republican National Convention. Mr. Musk said on Thursday he was not speaking.

Mr. Musk is more comfortable than ever revealing his conservative sympathies. But the role that he has played in supporting Republicans financially is not widely known, in part because he has tried to avoid making public donations.

He has emerged as a central character in the presidential race, targeted by the Biden campaign and celebrated as an almost mythical figure by Mr. Trump’s advisers. Angry at liberals over immigration, transgender rights and the Biden administration’s perceived treatment of Tesla , the mercurial Mr. Musk has undergone a midlife reinvention that has many Republicans salivating about him as the party’s moneymaker — if only he will deliver.

This article is based on interviews with about two dozen of Mr. Musk’s political associates, friends and Republican Party allies, many of whom insisted on anonymity to disclose private conversations. Mr. Musk and his aides did not respond to requests for comment.

Woody Johnson, a pre-eminent Republican fund-raiser and Mr. Trump’s former ambassador to Britain, said he welcomed Mr. Musk into the party as an ideological convert.

“Explore all ideas — and come up with the best one,” Mr. Johnson quipped in an interview. “There’s nobody in the world like Musk. We’re lucky as Americans to have him. He is the most innovative — besides Trump.”

Dismissing Trump as a ‘stone-cold loser’

Mr. Musk was once allergic to Washington. He maintained a decent relationship with Mr. Obama and made several White House visits to build support for Tesla and SpaceX, his rocket manufacturer. But he generally disliked meeting with other politicians and saw political donations as a necessary evil, according to four people who worked with him.

Days before the 2016 election, he told CNBC that Mr. Trump did not “seem to have the sort of character that reflects well on the United States.” After Mr. Trump won, Mr. Musk told some associates that the outcome was proof that they were living in a simulation, according to one person close to him. In 2020, Mr. Musk, in a private conversation with another associate, called Mr. Trump a “stone-cold loser.”

In 2022, the former president, for his part, used an expletive to describe the Tesla chief executive at a rally.

Mr. Musk also predicted that Mr. Trump’s days as a political force were finished, according to a private message that was viewed by The New York Times, as he prepared to voice support for Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida , whose campaign he helped kick off in 2023.

Big promises, little follow-through

Mr. Musk has become an obsession of many Trump officials and Republican fund-raisers, who see him as the party’s next great hope — or a meal ticket for themselves. But over the years, he has acquired a reputation in political circles as something of a flake.

Some conservative activists said they wished that Mr. Musk had followed through more on promises to fund free-speech lawsuits by people who believed that they had been censored on social media.

Mr. Musk can be hard to pin down, and rumors fly about him in Republican circles. In 2023, when Kevin McCarthy was elected as House speaker , the California politician gave a party at the Library of Congress, and some aides were told until shortly beforehand to expect Mr. Musk to show up and speak. But he didn’t, disappointing some in the crowd, a person involved in the event recalled.

Mr. Musk has also been unreliable in local politics. He wrote last year on X that he planned to donate $100,000 to GrowSF, a centrist group in San Francisco, so it could help defeat a progressive city official. But Mr. Musk did not donate or even contact the group, said Steven Buss, one of GrowSF’s founders.

An embrace of dark money

Mr. Musk has said that he tries to stay out of politics , and he has not donated to a federal political group since the 2020 cycle, according to campaign finance records. He has gone to great lengths to avoid leaving a public footprint of the contributions he does make.

Indeed, he learned a tough lesson when he made his largest disclosed gift ever, a $50,000 donation in 2017, to the McCarthy Victory Fund, a group aligned with Mr. McCarthy. The disclosure of that donation angered liberals . He learned from that experience to prioritize giving to dark-money organizations, a person familiar with his thinking recalled.

In recent communications with Republicans, Mr. Musk and his associates have expressed a desire not to make political contributions to groups whose donations must be legally disclosed. He told a friend a few months ago that he wanted to find a way to support Trump but didn’t want to do it publicly, the friend recalled.

During the Republican presidential primary race, Mr. Musk’s team had detailed talks with allies of Vivek Ramaswamy about making a major donation to a dark-money group backing the entrepreneur’s candidacy, according to a person briefed on the talks. Mr. Musk attended two fund-raisers for Mr. Ramaswamy, in California and Texas, two people briefed said, but he ultimately declined to cut a check.

In 2023, he strongly considered making a significant political donation to the American Action Network, a 501(c) (4) dark-money group steered by Mr. McCarthy’s political operation, according to a person with knowledge of the discussions. It’s not clear if he gave.

The tug of war

As Mr. Musk sought help on politics, the people he turned to sought to influence him.

He had gotten to know Mr. McCarthy over the last decade thanks to the former speaker’s advocacy for SpaceX. They now text frequently, and Mr. Musk has often relied on Mr. McCarthy over the years for advice on politics and lobbying.

Mr. McCarthy has been eager to highlight his relationship with Mr. Musk, and has gone to great lengths to cultivate him, according to people familiar with their relationship.

He interviewed the billionaire at an exclusive conference in Sea Island, Ga., hosted by the conservative American Enterprise Institute, and invited Mr. Musk to headline a fund-raising retreat for Mr. McCarthy’s donors in Wyoming. Mr. Musk also flew to Washington for the congressman’s birthday last year.

Mr. McCarthy has helped develop Mr. Musk’s relationship with Mr. Trump, but he has not been alone. Three close friends of the former president — Mr. Peltz, Mr. Wynn and Steve Witkoff, whose firm invested in the billionaire’s Twitter takeover — plus Mr. Musk’s emerging confidant, Diesel Peltz, a son of Nelson Peltz — have played a role in encouraging Mr. Musk to draw close to Mr. Trump, according to people familiar with the relationships. Mr. Musk also talks frequently with Mr. Ramaswamy, who has become a Trump surrogate, another person said.

Mr. Wynn said in an interview that Mr. Musk was “dedicating himself to making sure this election ends up properly” but downplayed his own role.

“He did that without my help,” he said. “Elon is a self-propelled rocket.”

Some of Mr. Musk’s friends in Silicon Valley have also bent his ear, including members of the so-called PayPal Mafia, a group of early executives at the payments company that includes the Trump donors David Sacks and Ken Howery, the people said.

Mr. Musk used to live primarily in Los Angeles, but people close to him said his politics had been shaped by his more conservative social circle in his new home state of Texas. Joe Lonsdale, a co-founder of Palantir who lives in Texas, and his aides have spent considerable time with Mr. Musk talking about politics, and Mr. Musk has told others that he is worried about what would happen to his businesses if Texas went blue, the people said.

But some of Mr. Musk’s more liberal friends and associates have expressed unhappiness to him about his rightward drift, according to three people familiar with the situation. Some said they have received private assurances from Mr. Musk that he is not donating to support Mr. Trump.

The extremist direction of Mr. Musk has bothered his own high-profile, celebrity lawyer, Alex Spiro, according to two people who have spoken to him. Mr. Spiro, who declined to comment, has encouraged Mr. Musk not to alienate Democrats from his businesses, citing the famous quip from Michael Jordan that “Republicans buy sneakers, too,” one of the people said.

The final turn to Trump

It appears those liberal friends are losing the tug of war. Mr. Musk met with Mr. Trump in March and now talks with him directly on occasion, according to people familiar with the relationship. The two have spoken about electric vehicles, as well as technology like so-called deepfake videos , the former president has told donors who relayed his remarks.

During the Trump term, Mr. Musk once asked his top executives at Tesla how many of them had voted for Mr. Trump, and was alarmed to hear that none of them had, according to a person with knowledge of the meeting.

“I have had some conversations with him, and he does call me out of the blue for no reason,” Mr. Musk said last month at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting.

Mr. Musk and Mr. Sacks organized a private dinner this spring in Los Angeles with several other anti-Biden billionaires, who talked about ways to oppose Mr. Biden’s re-election.

Whether Mr. Musk might financially support the Republican ticket has flummoxed Mr. Trump’s aides. For much of this year, Mr. Musk entertained to friends the notion of an endorsement, or at least urging his followers explicitly not to vote for Mr. Biden, according to two people who spoke directly with Mr. Musk. The billionaire told these people that he wanted to wait until the president formally captured the Democratic nomination before he made a proclamation.

Then came the assassination attempt.

Within an hour of the shooting, Mr. Musk went on X and endorsed Mr. Trump.

Mr. Lonsdale has helped start a new super PAC that its donors say will fund an aggressive field program to aid Mr. Trump, and several of Mr. Musk’s close friends have pooled their millions behind the group. The Wall Street Journal reported that Mr. Musk had spoken of donating $45 million per month to the group — energizing both the Trump and Biden teams. But Mr. Musk has told people close to him that the figure is false, and while people close to the group said that while they expect him to give, they don’t know how much.

In recent weeks, Mr. Musk privately lobbied Mr. Trump to choose Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio as his running mate. He celebrated vociferously on Monday after Mr. Vance was announced as the pick .

Trevor Traina, a Republican fund-raiser in San Francisco who served in the Trump administration and knows Mr. Musk socially, said he saw parallels between the two men.

“He has had to walk the same road as Trump — silenced, targeted, canceled — and within the last couple weeks,” Mr. Traina said of Mr. Musk, “he has decided it’s time to take action.”

This weekend's Bayview Mackinac Race marks 100 years with record number of boats

PORT HURON, MI - Excitement is building along the shores of Lake Huron as the 100th running of the Bayview Mackinac Race is set to kick off Saturday.

This century milestone is made even more special because a record number of sailboats - 332 are registered - are set to sail up the course to the finish line near Mackinac Island.

As a nod to the race’s impressive history, boat crews will be competing on the original course mapped out for the first Bayview Mackinac Race in 1925. This means all the racing yachts will start in southern Lake Huron, then head 235 miles north and west. The boats will pass south of Bois Blanc Island before crossing the finish line that sits between Round Island and Mackinac Island.

Boats from 17 states and Canada are set to participate in what is one of the longest-running freshwater yacht races in the world.

The race begins Saturday, with the first group of boats set to hit the starting line at 11:30 a.m.

“Anyone up the Thumb coast of Lake Huron should be in for quite a show as the entire fleet sails up to Mackinac, and if there is a downwind blowing and spinnakers unfurled it will be a spectacular view from the shore,” said Charlie Trost, race chair for the 2024 Bayview Mackinac.

“The large and diverse fleet reflects the inclusivity and wide appeal of the race, drawing competitors from various regions and backgrounds, which enhances the competitive spirit and camaraderie among sailors.”

Experts have offered theories about how a thrill-seeking Canadian couple’s attempted transatlantic sailing expedition turned tragic last month, positing their homemade vessel may have been struck by a much larger ship soon after they departed Halifax on the country’s North East coast.

Earlier this month, the bodies of Brett Clibbery, 70, and Sarah Justine Packwood, 54, were found on a life raft washed up on Sable Island, Nova Scotia.

The area is ominously nicknamed the “Graveyard of the Atlantic” due to the large number of shipwrecks that wind up on its shores.

An official investigation is underway, and although no concrete answers have yet come to light, one leading theory is that their boat was badly damaged by a much larger vessel, forcing the couple to seek refuge in the life raft.

“While they do not have conclusive proof, [investigators] suspect the sailboat … was struck by a bulk carrier likely only a few days after departing Halifax,” a source close to the investigation revealed to Saltwire .

Investigators have reportedly inspected a carrier ship that was in the same area as the couple’s boat — named Theros — at the outset of its voyage, but the results of the probe have not been released to the public.

“The crew of the carrier ship told investigators there were no signs of damage and they were unaware of any collision with a smaller vessel,” the Daily Mirror writes.

The source surmised that the ship’s homemade additions might have presented additional problems, and veteran sailors told the outlet the excessive ballast from batteries and solar panels could have destabilized the boat.

The pair set sail June 11 on a journey that was supposed to take them across the Atlantic Ocean from Halifax to the Azores in their 42-foot yacht, which the couple built themselves.

The eco-friendly boat, which operated without a diesel engine, was due to arrive at its destination by July 2, to serve as a demonstration of how it’s possible to travel the world with electric, wind and solar-powered vessels.

The excursion was to be the couple’s first fully “green” journey on Theros, the building of which the couple chronicled on their YouTube channel, “Theros Adventures.”

Despite the swirling theories about how the doomed voyage turned deadly, the Canadian transportation safety board has not made any formal announcements indicating what happened

“At this time, we cannot say with complete certainty that the sailing vessel was struck by a ship, as we are still gathering information regarding the overdue sailing vessel Theros,” a spokesman said.

Clibbery and Packwood married on the yacht in 2016, one year after they met during a chance encounter at a bus stop in London, England.

Packwood was preparing to donate a kidney to her sister when she met Clibbery, who was visiting from Canada — a heartwarming story that was the center of a 2020 “How We Met” piece in The Guardian.

“We have been traveling and co-creating adventures ever since,” Packwood previously posted on YouTube.

Clibbery’s son, Brett, posted a loving tribute to the couple on Facebook, acknowledging the last few days had been really hard for the family, and news to emerge from the investigation has left it “hard to remain hopeful.”

He continued, “They were amazing people, and there isn’t anything that will fill the hole that has been left by their, so far, unexplained passing.

“Living will not be the same without your wisdom, and your wife was quickly becoming a beacon of knowledge, and kindness. I miss your smiles. I miss your voices. You will be forever missed.”

Beyond one big name band jumping ship at the last minute , it was otherwise smooth sailing Friday for day one of the new Minnesota Yacht Club Festival at St. Paul’s Harriet Island Regional Park.

Yacht Club, which continues Saturday, is the first major rock and pop festival on Harriet Island since Live Nation’s River’s Edge Music Festival in 2012. Despite promising St. Paul a five-year commitment, the concert promoting giant lost enough money to convince them to pull out after a single year.

Live Nation owns 51% of Yacht Club organizers C3 Presents, an Austin, Texas, company that’s also behind Austin City Limits Music Festival, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience and the modern-day Lollapalooza. But Live Nation apparently allows C3 to follow its own path.

Some concertgoers complained about food and drink prices, and long lines, but in terms of getting in and around the site, the infrastructure and general vibe, C3’s experience in mounting festivals became quite clear by late Friday afternoon, when Joan Jett and the Blackhearts played an hourlong set to a large, grinning and dancing crowd. (Organizers did not release an attendance number, but have said they expect more than 30,000 people each of the two days.)

On Thursday, Yacht Club’s social media announced reunited Southern rockers the Black Crowes had pulled out of their planned set at 8 p.m. Friday due to “illness in the band.” (The Crowes, however, did not address their absence online.) Rather than drafting an 11th hour replacement, the festival reworked the schedule and gave several acts more time on stage. Local band Durry got pushed nearly two hours later into the schedule for a set that started at 5:40, while Seattle indie folk act the Head and the Heart graduated to the Black Crowes’ planned 8 p.m. slot.

Local favorites Gully Boys opened the festival at 1 p.m. on the main stage followed by fellow homegrown act Harbor and Home on the smaller stage. From that point on, performances alternated between the two stages, with just minutes between bands.

Sets from buzzy country artist Morgan Wade and indie rockers Michigander paved the way for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, who earned cheers for their famous covers “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah),” “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” “Crimson and Clover” and “Everyday People” as well as band originals “I Hate Myself for Loving You” and “Bad Reputation.” They also covered the Replacements’ “Androgynous,” with Jett giving a shout out to the late Minneapolis band and their leader Paul Westerberg.

St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter took the stage prior to Gwen Stefani’s performance and asked the crowd to applaud the police and other city workers who helped make the festival happen. He also suggested it would return for a second year in 2025.

Stefani — who was promoted as a headliner along with Friday’s final act Alanis Morissette and Saturday’s main attraction the Red Hot Chili Peppers — performed with dancers and video at what sounded like a louder volume than the previous bands. She told the audience her brother-in-law is from Minnesota, so that sort of makes her a local. She then pulled out her husband, former “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton, to sing their current single “Purple Irises.”

It’s been some 18 years since her last substantial solo hit, but Stefani has remained in the spotlight thanks to her high-profile husband and the semi-regular duet singles they’ve released over the last eight years. Stefani and her band No Doubt reunited in April to headline Coachella to much acclaim, but have yet to announce any future plans together. Whatever happens, Friday’s crowd — which was heavy on geriatric millennials and Gen Xers with a smattering of boomers — gave Stefani a warm reception that matched the ideal summertime weather that graced the festival on Friday.

The so-called "special relationship" between the UK and the US is acted out in the level of cooperation between the two governments and personified in the relationship between the presidents and prime ministers of the day.

Voters have thrown together some odd couples since 1946, when then ex-prime minister Sir Winston Churchill coined the phrase into diplomatic usage in a celebrated speech delivered in Fulton, Missouri.

At first glance no special relationship could be stranger than that made up of the newly elected Labour Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Donald J Trump, who looks on course to be re-elected to the White House in November.

Left of centre Labour and populist right-wing Americans make strange bedfellows.

Undaunted, the British side is already flirting with intent. Perhaps the two leaderships may fit together more closely than expected.

In spite of his jibe or joke about the UK becoming the first Islamist state with a nuclear weapon, JD Vance, the newly nominated vice-presidential candidate, may help consummate the relationship rather than hinder it.

Inevitably, and ironically, renewed US-UK intimacy will complicate the other special relationship which the new British government is trying to rekindle with the European Union. That is a matter for discussion elsewhere.

This year's Olympics are set to kick off on Friday in Paris.

Ahead of this, the prime minister has sent his well-wishes to Team GB.

In a letter posted to social media, Sir Keir Starmer wrote: "You have worked so hard to prepare for this moment.

"I know you have put in thousands of hours in training and braced many a cold dark morning over long winters, when the bright lights of the stadium and the eyes of the world will have felt very far away.

"So I want to thank you as well as your families, coaches and support teams for all the efforts you have made. And I want you to know that the whole country is already so proud of you."

He called the athletes "inspirational" and said they would be "uniting people of different backgrounds, different experiences, and different generations".

A few days ago, the UK's official COVID inquiry published its first report on the government's response to the pandemic.

It found the government had "failed" the public because of "significant flaws" in preparing for a pandemic.

Jeremy Hunt, who was health secretary between 2012 and 2018, spoke to the BBC this morning.

He conceded that he was "part of a groupthink where we over-prepared for pandemic flu, we didn't think about other types of pandemic".

He told the BBC: "I apologise unreservedly to the families.

"That was the most terrible tragedy, what happened to this country during COVID."

Vaughan Gething's former leadership rival Jeremy Miles has said he will not be standing in the race to succeed Wales's outgoing first minister.

Mr Miles lost out to Mr Gething in March and had been widely expected to stand again.

But he has instead given his backing to Welsh health secretary Eluned Morgan.

Mr Miles was economy secretary in Mr Gething's cabinet until he, along with three other ministers, resigned from the government last Tuesday, calling for him to go.

Later that day, Mr Gething announced he would step down as first minister.

Labour's Welsh executive committee met on Saturday to discuss the leadership election.

Senedd members will have until midday on Wednesday to nominate candidates.

Voters want a party that "isn't going to fight like cats in a sack", a prominent Tory has said as he warned against "blue-on-blue" attacks in the upcoming leadership contest and urged "civility".

Tees Valley mayor Lord Houchen also told the Sky News' Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips programme a pact with Nigel Farage's Reform party would be "madness".

He made the call after former home secretary Suella Braverman, who is believed to be preparing a leadership bid to replace Rishi Sunak, said the Conservatives risked becoming "centrist cranks".

She has suggested the Tories should find an "accommodation" with Reform and welcome Mr Farage into the party following the disastrous election result that saw Labour win a landslide.

Mrs Braverman has proved a divisive figure within Conservative ranks, angering many with her intervention ahead of polling day where she declared the contest "over".

Lord Houchen said the party had "lost its way" in recent years and stressed the need to reconnect with the public.

A Treasury minister has said there is a cost to not striking a deal on public sector pay in the face of reported proposals for inflation-busting wage hikes costing billions of pounds.

Speaking on Sky News' Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips, James Murray insisted the Labour government's fiscal rules were "non-negotiable" as he refused to be drawn on whether Chancellor Rachel Reeves would meet the floated increase of 5.5% recommended by independent pay review bodies.

The proposed above-inflation increase for teachers and around 1.3 million NHS staff, reported by The Times, is well above the figure the government is thought to have been preparing for, costing in the region of £3bn.

Sir Keir Starmer's government could need up to £10bn to cover such a pay increase if all public sector workers were given the 5.5% rise, according to economists.

At present, the government is believed to have budgeted for an increase of somewhere between 1% and 3%, with inflation currently at 2%.

An increased pay rise could pose a significant challenge for the chancellor's first budget, which is likely to come in the autumn.

Labour had promised to control borrowing and ruled out a string of tax rises during the election campaign.

Schools and hospitals are unlikely to be able to meet the 5.5% pay rise from their existing budgets without making cuts elsewhere.

Labour's Emily Thornberry, who was snubbed for a cabinet role by Sir Keir Starmer, is running to be chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, she has told Sky's Electoral Dysfunction podcast.

Ms Thornberry, who served as shadow attorney general when Labour was in opposition, told political editor Beth Rigby she was "very sad" and "disappointed" not to get a government role because she wanted to part of the "great project" of a Labour government.

But she said she would instead run as a chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, a prestigious role in parliament.

She told Rigby: "I think if I was elected by the whole House to do that, that would be a fantastic job to do."

Reflecting on her previous experience in opposition, where she has served in the roles of shadow foreign secretary, shadow defence secretary and shadow international trade secretary, she said: "I hope I've got kind of quite a lot of experience of that relevant stuff.

"And I've never been a chair, I've never been a chair of a select committee, and I haven't been on a select committee obviously for a long time because I've been on the [front]bench for more than a decade. But it'll be something new."

When he appointed his cabinet shortly after his election landslide, Sir Keir chose Richard Hermer KC, a former barrister at Matrix Chambers, as attorney general.

Ben Zaranko, an economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies, has explained in a bit of detail how the government could afford the estimated £10bn it may need to give a pay rise to the public sector.

This is based on reporting that the raise suggested by independent bodies will be about 5.5%.

Mr Zaranko says the current spending plans take into account a rise of only around 2%.

The money to fund the discrepancy could be found from higher taxes, higher borrowing or cuts to something else - "but it's going to be difficult".

The economist reckons we'll see Chancellor Rachel Reeves employ a "blame game" to lay the state of the economy at the feet of the Conservatives.

Mr Zaranko says: "I think eventually the scale of the challenge facing public services and the funding gap means eventually they might have to look at broader revenue-raising measures, or else maybe cutting back on some of the other things that the state does that they view it no longer needs to do."

He says Labour could borrow more money, but he says it's hard to do so with the current fiscal rules created by the last government.

It is possible these rules could be changed in order to borrow money to spend on infrastructure and create growth, but "I think that they are nervous about maybe the markets, how they would react", Mr Zaranko adds.

There is some "wiggle room" to find a "few extra billion here and there" in playing around with the numbers in the Treasury, but "ultimately they have boxed themselves in" by ruling out a series of tax rises in the campaign.

We'll find out more later this week, when Ms Reeves gives a speech in parliament on the state of the finances.

The story of the Starmer government will be shaped by the tension between the change it promised in opposition and the lack of cash available to achieve it.

We can now see the first couple of chapters in this tale – public sector pay and benefits.

The indications this weekend are that the chancellor will acquiesce to a reported above-inflation pay rise for many public sector workers.

To not do so would risk a fresh wave of strikes - a bad look for the first few months of a Labour administration.

But that means an immediate multi-billion-pound bill for Rachel Reeves to foot.

Her "iron-clad" fiscal rules mean that can't come from borrowing and the mooted revenues from future economic growth won't arrive in time for this pay round.

This leaves her with two levers to pull – one marked spending cuts and one marked tax rises.

We may get an indication of the approach in the coming 10 days when the chancellor comes to the Commons to lay out the broader state of public finances and how pay deals fit into that.

On benefits - and specifically the two-child cap - the government has reason to feel it's on a steadier footing.

Sir Keir Starmer is insulated from much political damage by his huge majority and may feel less inclined to change course given polling suggesting the policy is more popular with the public than it is with parliamentarians.

But these tussles are just a taste of what's to come.

This autumn will bring a spending review that will fully expose the grisly gulf between what departments need and what is available.

The flashpoints this will throw up are daunting: defence, health, social care, councils, pensions - the list goes on.

Throughout the election campaign, both parties were accused of simply not being straight about how little money was washing around Whitehall to fund public services.

Economists called it a conspiracy of silence.

Now in power, keeping schtum is simply not an option for Labour.

By purchasing tickets to a VIP Nightlife Event, you understand and agree that tickets are non-refundable and you are assuming the risk that you may not be able to use tickets purchased if you contract COVID-19 or variants alike. You further agree that you will not attend any VIP Nightlife event if you currently have symptoms of COVID-19, have been exposed to COVID-19 prior to attending and/or have tested positive for COVID-19 and have not completed the CDC recommended quarantine period. Be advised attendees may be required to show proof of vaccine and/or a negative test result. As the rules for events vary by location and change often, please check your local listing and respective government authorities for any applicable rules that may apply to you. You will not receive a refund if you are unable to attend an event due to any non-compliance with local rules, event guidelines, vaccine status, or failure to provide a negative test result. Event Booking:

By purchasing a ticket, package or reservation you're entitled to entry to event you're purchasing it for. At the time of your order, Eventbrite will place an order for your ticket(s) in the Promoter’s ticketing system, reducing the number of tickets available for the chosen event. If cancellation or transfer request is approved, promoter reserves the right to charge a $10 administrative fee for its time, in addition to charging a $10 restocking fee per ticket if tickets are placed back on sale. Ticket-holder is aware that amenities promised by Promoter are not guaranteed, and are not grounds for a refund, including but not limited to: VIP amenities, drink specials, drink tickets, gifts, express entry, special areas, celebrity guests, etc. Dissatisfaction with any aspect of the event is not grounds for a refund, including but not limited to: music, DJ(s), decorations or lack thereof, party favors or lack thereof, beverages or lack thereof, alcohol selection, bar staff, food availability and selection, fellow patrons/attendees, venue staff, event staff, security, performances, ambiance, amenities, venue, check-in process, seating or lack of seating, wait in lines, emergency closures of event, emergency return of boats or yachts, delayed commencing of events, early ending of events, public amenities such as fireworks or public performances or the lack thereof, line of sight of public amenities such as fireworks or public performances being blocked by trees, buildings, boats, people, and/or other things, etc.

Release of Liability:

By purchasing the tickets through Eventbrite, you hereby release and forever discharge Promoter from any liability or claims for damages that may arise as a result of your attendance at, and voluntary participation in, the event(s), including claims for personal injury, or damage to personal property, or any other claims for negligence on the part of the event’s Promoter. By purchasing the tickets through Eventbrite for this event, you hereby release and forever discharge event Promoter, and their officers and agents, from any liability or claims for damages that may arise as a result of your attendance and participation at the event(s). It is hereby understood that the purchase of tickets by you and your participation in the events shall not be construed as an assumption on the part of Promoter of responsibility, liability, or control of the events.

By Purchasing tickets for this event, ticket purchaser agrees to indemnify and hold harmless event Promoter, said entities officers, owners, employees, and agents, from and against all claims, damages, losses and expenses, including reasonable attorney’s fees arising out of or by reason of complying with this Indemnity Clause. Collections & Legal Action Against Debt:

Once you make a purchase, if those funds are removed from the Promoter's account and given back to you, you owe the Promoter that money back, plus applicable fees as outlined below. If you owe money to Promoter, Promoter reserves the right to take legal action against you and/or send you to collections for the recovery of said debt. If you are sent to collection or there is legal action taken against you, you are fiscally responsible for any and all legal costs and fees, directly associated and/or indirectly associated, with recovering the debt owed by you. Promoter's collection’s agencies reserve the right to negatively affect your personal credit score until your debt is paid. Once an account has been placed in collections, the only way to get yourself out of Collections is to pay the debt owed by you to the collections agency.

Arbitration Agreement:

In the event there are any legal disputes against Promoter, by agreeing to this Purchase Policy, you agree that such disputes will be arbitrated. You further agree that the location of arbitration will be set in Los Angeles County, California.

Severability:

If any clause, aspect, part or provisions of this Purchase Policy is found to be null, void, illegal or otherwise unenforceable, the rest of this Purchase Policy remains in full binding effect, and the unenforceable provision(s) shall be deemed modified to the limited extent required to permit the enforcement of said clause that required modification and of the agreement as a whole.
